“That’s right! Fly away you fat cowards!” Encouraged by his insult throwing sister, Simba couldn’t help but toss a few of his own in there, jumping up and down with exuberance just to add flair to the situation. “Yeah! Never come back you...pigs!” Okay so he wasn’t as good as his sister at coming up with on the spot disparaging remarks but at least he tried right? “Good job on that pounce brother.” Impressed, Tohru gave him a little pat on the head, nothing overly affectionate but just a little indicator that she’d noticed his growing skills.
“Hehe, you think so?” The dragon might have had a low attention span, but even he knew his prone-to-being- particular twin was hard to impress at times and as a result he felt a bit...tingly? Was that the right word? As if he had doubts he’d done something right for once. “Yeah! You’re not bad...for a kid.” A smugness in her voice with the last two terms, the rabbit strutted away with a very cheshire cat like grin as if knowing it would annoy Simba. “H-hey I’m not a kid, I’m super duper butt kicking brave...wait come back Tohru, what if those Tsukaimon come back? Don’t leave me!” The last thought was enough for him to quickly follow after her, fumbling a bit as he jumped to run.
“Well I can’t know that for sure but I do know that everyone I’ve met who is gets one of these.” She held up her red lined digivice while the twins returned to her side whom she scooped up, Tohru struggling a bit, the rabbit not nearly as receptive to affection as her brother was. “As I said earlier, these two goofballs are my partners, Simba and Tohru.” While the kid dragon waved, Tohru couldn’t help but roll her eyes a bit. “I can introduce myself, are you going to cut my meat for me too?” She despised being babied, absolutely hated it as a matter of fact. “Nah, I’ve seen you scoff down ribeyes with the bone.” Yeah, her rabbit definitely defied that whole thing that all hares were vegetarian, that things like salad were “rabbit food” - then again she was part dragon?
“So, for a reason that’s still currently unexplained, a select group of humans have recently been able to access a sort of sub-plane of earth called the digital world, which is inherited by these guys, and the ones you saw earlier, and many many others as far as I know? Dunno though, I haven’t quite traveled there quite just yet.”

The two creatures that had just fought the Tsukaimon trio were approaching Talia, talking to each other, as Katherine could only look amazed at them. They were completely different than before, the rabbit was now standing in two feet, had three horns and wore a bright red cape, almost covered by it's huge ears, the former fox, looked much more spiky now, it was of a light silver color, had sharp claws and wore another red cape. The main difference in this creatures with the pets she saw before, for Katherine, was in their eyes, they had big much more lively bright eyes, like their level of reasoning was as elevated as hers. They definitely weren't toys or dolls, these creatures were very much alive. There was no doubt these were the exact same type of creature those so called Tsukaimon. Digimon, were they called? She had never heard of that.
Talia showed Katherine her red lined device again, stating that, if Katherine had one of those, she was a tamer, and she was supposed to have one of these 'Digimon' too. Apparently, the blonde girl had two digimon partners, Tohru and Simba, names that went respectively for the rabbit and the dragon digimon that she was no holding in her arms. As she heard them talk to each other and Talia, Katherine could only think: how was even possible that such marvelous creatures existed without her knowing?
While they were going down the stairs to get back at Talia's office, Katherine started inquiring more about these creatures and this Digital World. -So the three creatures I saw before were called Tsukaimon? And they are the same kind of creatures as you two, who are called Simba and Tohru, being all of you digimon, am I right? -The girl asked the pair, as her first approach trying to speak to a digimon who wasn't trying to kill her. -How did you find Talia? What do you eat? How old are you? how does your world look? and how is my partner supposed to find me? -Katherine couldn't stop looking like an over-excited child going into the amusement park for the first time. Her heart was still beating so fast, and she was still a little scared, she had to admit, but the excitement of so many unknown things she was about to discover made her uncontrollably roused. Katherine tried to remain calmed, noticing her questions didn't even had any kind to relation one to another. -I... I'm sorry. You don't have to answer that. It's very nice to meet you, Tohru and Simba. My name is Katherine Jasso. .She then turned at Talia, as they kept going down the stairs. -How do you call this? -She asked taking her purple gadget out of her pocket. It had completely stopped thrilling now, but it still showed two dots walking along her at the middle of the screen. This thing definitely was useful to find digimon. -I should be able to find my partner using this, right? Unless they are wearing some kind of disguise like yours. How did you do that, by the way? -Katherine's eyes widened as she came to a realization. -Wait! Do you think it's possible my partner is still at this Digital World? Do you know if there's any way to get there? -She would think about what was next once she found them, but for now, it was a priority to locate her own partner, maybe they could have some info about all of this situation. As they entered Talia's office again, she could see by her huge window the sun was completely gone on Shibuya now, the night had fallen.

“What is it with humans and asking a lot of questions?” The rabbit’s blunt inquiry embarrassed the female a bit as she gently patted the rabbits head as if to silently remind her to behave. “Be patient Tohru!” The rabbit had boatloads of sass, spunk and energy but as far as tolerance went the no nonsense leporidae was lacking. “Meh, you’re all the same too nosy for your own good, don’t you know not minding your own business can get you into trouble?” Precious bun, so practical yet so socially handicapped at times. “But that’s a super boring way to have fun if you don’t poke your nose around.” Except in the neighbors garden, he’d learned that the hard way, but hey how was he supposed to look for treasure like those people in the tv shows did if he didn’t dig?! “TCH, you can’t always just care about fun and games, Simba.” Nonsense! Simba thought as he rolled around on his back playfully akin to that of a labrador. Like that one song said, life was just a bowl of cherries! “And you can’t always take things too seriously, Tohru.”
Welp, was Katherine ready to run away screaming yet? “They’re all a little bit different to a degree but they all hail from the same realm so basically, yes.” She’d answered the first question for the two since they seemed to be preoccupied with their banter. “Guys, how about you save your argument later for who gets the last instant ramen bowl and respond to our new friend?” The term instant ramen bowl made the both of them turn their heads and shift their attention to the newer, their curiosity quickly focusing from high sodium food to the new human. “Errrr, I eat most things, but I am particularly fond of meat, and dislike cauliflower because it resembles a human brain too much for my liking.” Simba wrinkled his face. “Yuck, brain! I like meat too, and Subway sandwiches, and also Talia’s pork cutlets!”
The question regarding age made Talia herself ponder just how old these two were, it defnitely seemed that Simba was younger, but they were twins born from the same egg? “Technically digimon do not age, but all the both of us remember right now is that we were born in a nursery in the digital world and brought here under mysterious circumstances.” Talia petted the both of them on the head, smiling. “At the moment, I’m sort of trying to help them remember their past.” Okay, the girl was starting to get what Tohru meant by too many questions as her head seemed to spin with each passing phrase from Katherine. “That I’m not sure of unfortunately, these two kinda found me, but I’m sure it could be helpful.”
Note that the computer programmer was completely winging this - for all she knew that information could be completely incorrect. “I’ve never been, but I’ve heard the location is through a river here in the city?” Come to think of it, K could probably be really helpful in this situation but was Katherine really ready to meet an 8 ft something fox lady with swords if the twins freaked her out this much? “Definitely! Either here or there, in my experience though they sort of find their own way to you. Actually I’ve got a friend who might know more about this than me, but uh she’s kind of also a digimon, a tall one, but don’t be fooled, she’s just as furry and cuddly as these two.”

Katherine couldn't stop laughing at the twin's little argument, as well as the topics about eating human brains and such. They were comparable to two little kids, but they definitely could be strong and scary too. For now, the fear had started to vanish, and Katherine could only think they were funny and cute. -I'm on your side on the discovering stuff verge, Simba -The girl smiled at the dragon -I feel every chance that you get to get more knowledge about the world around you, must be definitely taken. -Of course, giving the playful nature this digimon seemed to have, Katherine didn't want to encourage him more on doing some kind of mess trying to 'unveil the unknown'. It was definitely admirable that Talia could take care of these little creatures all by herself, trying to hide their existence from everyone. Then again, she did seem like a pretty responsible girl. For Katherine, it was marvelous that this creatures had different personality traits, the Tsukaimon she just met were definitely different from Tohru, who was different from Simba, not only in their looks, but in their thoughts and attitude. Once they got to Talia's office, a lot of explanations came through a long conversation. Talia had met other tamers in the real world, they had a digivice and one or two digimon partners too. Tohru and Simba were names given to the twins by Talia, their actual specie's name were Lopmon and Hackmon. Main characteristic about digimon species names being they all ended on 'mon' apparently, digimon being a reference to 'Digital Monster'. Talia, as their tamer, was trying to recover the digimon twin's memories, and she knew as much as Katherine as why was she chosen to have a digivice and digimon partners: nothing. In some cases, tamers could have twin digimon as partners, the most normal case being they only had one digimon partner. Katherine kept looking at her digivice as they spoke, was that the only lead she had to find her digimon partner? the girl began a train of thought. If Talia got her digivice at the exact same moment she found the twins, but Katherine didn't find her partner when she got her digivice, she probably was going to need to do something else to find them, since it wouldn't make sense for her partner to come 'slower' than her digivice, since both things came from this 'Digital World'. The next words that would come out of Talia's mouth were going to cement the girl's decision. "I’ve never been, but I’ve heard the location is through a river here in the city?" . Katherine eyes widened. The memory of her dream came back to her. ..."look... for... the... secret...gate...at...Shibuya... River..." Those words sounded in her head, like she was having the dream again in front of her eyes. That was exactly what that weird figure said on her dream, she could never forget those words, she could never forget that dream. That giant creature, that tower she was at. Was that the Digital World? Was that a Digimon? Katherine stood up from the chair immediately.
-Yes! The gate! It's at Shibuya River! -She said, slamming both hands against the desk. -Talia! I need to go! I'm going to the Digital World! -Katherine tried to explain her decision, thinking she might look like crazy to Talia. -As I told you before, I had a dream! I had this digivice -She remarked, holding her digivice in her right hand. -On said dream, a creature, I can only assume now, a Digimon, told me to look for the "secret gate" at Shibuya River. -She continued. -That can only be the gate to the Digital World you've heard of, Talia! I need to go! I'm going! -Did this make any sense at all? Then again, any of the things that had happened today, starting from that weird dream, continuing with the Tsukaimon showing up and the battle just held at the rooftop, did? This was the day Katherine had started following her instincts for the first time in her whole life, and she wasn't going to stop now. Her digimon was waiting for her at the Digital World, and she was going.
-Talia... I know we just met... but I need you to do something for me. -The girl took a pen lying on the desk and a piece of paper and began writing. -Could you send a letter to this address? -Katherine handed the piece of paper to Talia, where her home address was written. -Say that I'm working with you on a project, that I'm a young intern, whatever, and that I might not be going home for a while. Address that to Mrs Alison Bernard, that's my mom's name. -She asked, a firm expression on her face. -I know that if I go home now, I'll start having second thoughts. -The girl added. -I can't change my mind, this is the decision I've made, and I'm not backing down from it, I'm going right now! -Katherine was probably not thinking this through, but she didn't want to. She knew if she did, she would back down and miss the biggest adventure of her whole life.

Upon Katherine’s revelation, Tohru was the first one to speak up. “Kid, are you crazy? You just can’t go into some strange world you hardly know anything about by yourself, that’s just asking for trouble.” What if they didn’t like humans there? For whatever reason Talia had the image of it being oddly similar to Jurassic Park’s Isla Nublar but it skipped right to the part where the power went out and all the dinosaurs were loose. K had mentioned a few things about the digital world but whether it was benevolent or malevolent was still a subject she was in the dark about. And as Tohru ranted and raved about all the horrors of going places alone like some character from a 1990s Stranger Danger PSA the blonde finally shushed her down with a wave of a hand. “Enough. It’s not our business Tohru. Your call I guess. Hope you got strong legs for running.” Talia wasn’t this girls mom or big sister so whether she made reckless decisions was all up to her as far as she was concerned.
Indeed, what she was doing was completely idiotic and yet...admiringly brave at the same time? “Kudos to you I guess for following your instinct though, it’s a good trait to have, one I wish I saw more in people.” It seemed like the general populace hardly ever followed what they truly wanted to do, always conforming to performing what was practical, which made sense of course since everyone wanted a stable home, income, health insurance, etc, but few were fortunate enough to make said income doing something enjoyable just like her. “Computer science is kind of dominated by boys who are insecure from being shoved into trash cans in high school and they tend to treat the girls who choose to pursue the major like they can’t do anything because of their gender, but I never let something that backwards stop me from being successful. I hope you do the same, kid.”
Ugh, and now she had to send a letter to her mom? “She’s not going to think it’s fake and that I kidnapped you right? I’d rather not have the police bust down my door, never been arrested and plan to keep it that way.” Or have Bad Request be exposed and shut down - hackers weren’t friends with the police unfortunately, you’d think they would be though since they could track down pedophiles, cybercriminals, online predators, etc - perps who worked on the internet. Heck, she herself busted identity thieves for security firms all the time, thieves of whom were mostly losers too lazy to work for a living and instead of using their skills purposefully they just hacked into people’s bank accounts all day long from their mothers basements. “But, you got it I guess. Any idea when you’re coming back? You need me to make you a fake plane ticket or something? It’s kinda along the lines of my skills, hehe.”

Upon listening to Tohru's statement, Katherine frowned. The bunny was right, this was completely nuts, she didn't even know where to start looking once she got to Shibuya River. What was she going to do? ask someone for a secret portal to an alternate world? She couldn't even be sure she was going to find the way to get to the Digital World today. Running? Katherine gulped. She wasn't above average at running, she even could get easily scared of stuff she wasn't familiarized with. Then why did she still want to try it anyway? If it was completely insane, it the whole concept was absurd, why did she want to give it a shot? why did she still want to go to that dangerous world? She was going, she knew it wasn't the smartest decision, she knew it was dangerous, but it was what her heart wanted. After listening to Talia's words, Katherine blushed. -It's definitely the first time I follow my instinct at anything, Talia. -She looked down, with a sad expression. -My whole life I've been living the life they told me I should live, being the girl my parents wanted me to be, acting like they wanted me to act, just to please them. And I've been okay with that, I've been happy. -The girl raised her view and added. -So even if it's just for today... I want to be selfish, I'm going to do what I want to do for a change. Katherine couldn't help but smile when she listened to Talia's words about being discriminated at computer science due to her gender, and her will to change that. She had just met this girl for a while, but she already could feel nothing but admiration for her, somehow she felt she was going to share a strong bond with her. over the time, since she might know other tamers, but Talia would always be the first one she met, who taught her so much about this new world.
-No worries! -Katherine giggled. -To be honest, I've been offered jobs at different companies due to my good grades. so this won't be a shock to her. -Plus, Katherine's parents were usually too busy with work and didn't tend to pay much attention to her, but that wasn't something she wanted to talk about at the moment. -Oh! Could you do that? -Katherine asked, with shimmering eyes. -A fake plane ticket would be great! I have no clue about when I'll be back, though... -This trip could take from days to months, honestly. -I would say a couple of months would make a more than good enough alibi. After everything was said and done, Katherine could only trust Talia to work on that fake plane ticket and letter. She was pretty sure she would do it perfectly fine since that seemed to be her area of expertise. Katherine put her backpack on, she always had an extra set of clothes with her and a traveling toothbrush, so that would be of use. Other than that, she only had pencils, notebooks and her digivice , she also had water, but no food whatsoever. -Thanks for everything, Talia, all of you, actually. -Katherine said, standing in front of the blonde girl at the door of her office. -I'm pretty sure you'll go to the Digital World pretty soon too, so the next time I see you I'll have my digimon partner for sure! -She then turned a Tohru and Simba. -And I'm pretty sure you will become great friends! -The girl said, smiling at the twins. Katherine couldn't be more grateful to Talia and the twins, for teaching her so much and having so much patience. -I already think of you... as a good friend, Talia. -She added looking at the ground shyly. -So... THANK YOU! -Katherine jumped on Talia hugging her, which she knew was completely inappropriate in Japanese culture for someone she had just met, but she could tell the girl wasn't from Japan neither, and it was normal back in Spain where she was born, so she just went for it. It was a quick hug, though, Katherine letting go a second later for Talia to not feel uncomfortable. After letting go from the hug, the girl just walked quickly to the door and left the office. The brunette went out of the Overlord Enterprises building having a completely different reality than when she entered.
The night was as lonely and quiet as it gets. Katherine could even listen to crickets and different types of bugs moving upon the shore. It didn't take long for Katherine to know she was at the right place, her digivice began trilling like crazy. There seemed to be a huge amount of digital energy coming out from the water, and the gadget showed a flickering dot like there was a digimon near her. She walked for a while, memories of all the weird stuff that had just happened today going through her head. Finally, she managed to find the exact spot the digivice was trying to show her. The girl, shaking, tried to overcome her fear and closed her eyes. She thought about taking her clothes off to swim, but then again, if she was going to appear in another world, she didn't want to come in in her undies.
'Here goes nothing...' the girl mumbled, jumping into the water and diving. She immediately noticed the water was too deep for a river, she kept going down and down, diving, as a blue lightning covered her sight, and she started to feel very dizzy. Katherine had left the human world, an adventure bigger than life, had just begun.
