Of course, Liquid's tale would have its own repercussions on both Katherine and Jazz too. However, the brunette couldn't resist making a simple remark regarding Curls' statement.
"Being an awful person isn't something you grow into, Katherine." Even if her tone was even, the fact that Amelie's words dripped venom was fairly obvious. Justifying this betrayal as 'adolescence' was probably yet another awful explanation in the bag of explanations that could maybe be given. "If he decided to be a traitor, that's something he did on his own. No bodily function transforms you into an asshole, as far as I'm aware."
Besides that, it wasn't like she disagreed about the rest of what happened. The fact that Garmore had ended the Candlemon's vicious circle of depression was something they should be thankful about. Otherwise, things might've gotten out of control really fast. Even if somewhat goofy, the Nanimon had undoubtedly done a good action.
Liquid's actions made sense, and after everyone had come out clean, 'forgiving' and forgetting had proven to be quite simple. It wasn't like he had done something bad or anything, and he had seen the error of his ways within two days or so; could they complain, even?
"That's fine, Liquid. Don't worry about the whole deal. What matters right now is that we're a team in full and that we're gonna win the race! And I'm sure that everyone agrees with that sentiment."
Garmore's timely appearance made sure to keep everyone in good spirits. Truthfully, everyone was a little hungry after an entire morning of work, and having a small break in order to lunch for a bit seemed like a great idea!
Lunch went on in tranquility. The pair seized the moments that Katherine herself used to explain their findings to eat, given that Amelie had been present during the tests and Ooi couldn't care less about a nerd nerding out. The gist of the speech was quite simple; they had just discovered how to make the amazing shield work.
The plans on what to do next were already presented on the table, even if... Amelie's face seemed to perk up a bit as a thought invaded it. Weird how she hadn't realized it before. And while it could probably be painful for Liquid, it was probably for the best in the long run, or at least that's what she believed.
"Wait, before we get to work. Liquid..." She looked at the Candlemon with a thoughtful expression. "You're among the oldest digimon I know, and frankly... I think you've lived through enough things that you should be able to evolve without a problem, at least to adult level."
For a second, the statement lingered in the air. The implication was a tad obvious, wasn't it? "Something is holding you back." She stated, matter-of-factly. "Partnered digimon need for the emotions of their human tamer in order to evolve, yet... lone digimon do not."
Catching her drift wasn't hard to do. What she was proposing was fairly obvious; to move on, to get rid of that materialized bond that had turned into no more and no less than a cursed memento. "I know it's a decision that can't be taken lightly, but give it some thought, okay?"
That was a bit of a depressing statement, but its intent has been delivered already. "Blah, blah, blah." Ooi interrupted while making a talking gesture with a hand, somewhat annoyed. "First we have Curls nerding out and now you're offering what sounds like a Faustian bargain. Can we leave this behind and get to work? We have a boat to finish!"
After some shared laughter, both teenagers nodded to their respective 'partner's' words, and soon enough, they parted ways yet again in order to put the remaining amount of work in the boat. They had made a good deal of progress in the morning, and probably would be more than done once the day ended.
It was funny how things had managed to look up so much in such a short span of time.

At first, feeling somehow comforted by Ooi’s words Liquid just smiled at the girl. He was happy everything regarding that matter seemed to be in the past, and that now they could focus on working together like the team they were, with their minds fixed on winning that race.
Well, almost everything seemed to be in the past. A dubious expression formed in the candle lower and upper face, while he turned his eyes at the digivice that was now resting on his workbench, not taking too long to understand what Amelie meant. The concept of what she was explaining was what turned out to be the most fascinating for Katherine, the zeal of discovering new things about how the bonds between human and digimons worked always was well received by her and Jazz, especially when it made so much sense like this time.
-So that’s it, huh? I’ve actually been wondering why Jazz had managed to evolve into a Champion so quickly after meeting me if she had lived so many years as a child level. –Katherine turned at her bunny for a second and then turned back at Amelie. –Of course, I thought it could just be a coincidence or that it was just related to me finding the digimental but… I felt there had to be something else. -So apparently I need you in order to unlock new stages of power. –Placing her index finger over her mouth, the bunny muttered, She and Katherine seemed to be back at the same page, the curly haired girl’s actions, coming just in time to help her convince Liquid to come clean with them just some minutes ago had proven everything she needed, even though they probably would have to talk later about why it took her a while to get there, and why was she trying to avoid facing Liquid about this at first.
Even though Liquid wasn’t at all familiarized with this concept, it was something that he had been suspecting for a while. The reason why he couldn’t evolve before was that he was meant to have a partner, so this process was harder for him to accomplish by himself. Nevertheless, if anything, this just proved that his bond with Kouta had never actually been that strong since he wasn’t able to evolve while Kouta was by his side, but only due to the strong emotions his farewell produced inside of him.
In any case, even when Amelie’s suggested method almost bordered on the uncouth side, it was probably the only way of him breaking that bond that had been chasing him for years, and maybe finally have the capability of evolving the next stage. Becoming what digimon? One could only guess, but when it came to competing on a water race there wasn’t much worse than a digimon that couldn’t touch water, was it? Well, maybe one thing.
-Y-You… you don’t think if I evolve I would become a Goofymon right? –Liquid asked, sharing a scared expression on both the flame on his head and his waxy face. When Jazz understood who he was talking about, she burst up laughing. -You mean Gerbemon, right? –Katherine asked, sweatdropping. –No, I really don’t think you’re going to become one of them, you’re too nice for that. –She explained, probably based on nothing but the fact that Snake also seemed like a child-level digimon, so there probably wasn’t much to worry about. -Yiayiayiayiayia! –The Candlemon’s classic laughter ensued. He hopped to his working bench and picked up the digivice, to then hop back to Amelie, he took a last glance at the gadget and handed it to the blue-eyed. –Here, Amy-sis. You get rid of it the way you wish to. –It was time to move on, it was time to keep going forward. -Are you sure, Liquid? –Jazz asked, tilting her head at the candle; he nodded right after. -Of course! I don’t need that anymore, now I’ve got Ooi-sis, Jazz-sis, Kath-sis and even… Amy-sis. –He explained, a genuine smile on his face, as he looked at Amelie the last.
At the obviously comical scene of Liquid trusting Amelie when she had stated that she really didn’t care much for him, Katherine only giggled. Meanwhile, Jazz moved a small stool next to Liquid’s workbench and slowly placed it behind Amelie; she was planning something. –Well, you should have seen her just a while ago! Shisei turned into this giant digimon! It was so cool! –Using the stool to take a leap to the French girl’s shoulder, Jazz hugged her friend once again. –It’s incredible how someone so pretty can turn into something so scary! -Oooooh, you did, Amy-sis!? I can't believe I missed it! That's amazing! -Snapping his fingers, Liquid seemed kind of excited at the idea of a human turning into a digimon too.
-It really is. –Katherine said, walking towards her definitely taller friend and standing on the stool, to wrap her arms around her from her back in a warm hug, her cheeks ending up at the same level. –We should all be grateful for Amy. –Even when there was some teasing in her tone and at the whole display due to her using the stool to get a better hug out of her peer, she hoped her friend could also see that there was a lot of truth in those words too. Whether it was intentional or not, Amelie had been an important part to help bring this team together. Katherine and Jazz just both hugged Amy tight, showing all the love they could. They both laughed loudly at Ooi's comment, while the whole scene unfolded.
Once the whole thing was over and after the digivice was destroyed, the group had been put back to work, Katherine on herself at a second workbench, fiddling with the pendant using some screwdrivers, while Liquid and Ooi remained near the original workbench and Jazz and Amelie studied the strange material at the center of the room.
-What do you think we should do with this, Shisei? Is there anything you want to try out? –Jazz asked, staring at that circular piece of glass.
-So we know the Metal Banana is definitely one of the ingredients for the nitro, would you like to pick on the other one we should try, Ooi-sis? –Liquid questioned Ooi on his end.

A simple nod was the initial response to Katherine and Jazz's statement. It seemed that they were alien to this concept? Maybe she just understimated how green they were regarding the whole partnership stuff. "That's right. At least in a tamer's case, a digivice is the physical representation of the bond between a digimon and their human. Its strength can grow or wane depending on how deep is the connection between them, going as far as to unlock new stages of evolution as that bond magnifies. This is the first time I've seen it become a liability, however."
Probably not something nice to say, considering that this could still be a sore topic for Liquid, but it wasn't like hiding the truth made it any less true. The brunette hadn't expected for Liquid's concerns to be mostly about... what he'd turn into; but that was fine, she guessed. Taking the whole matter in stride was probably for the best.
"I've seen Candlemons evolve into Meramons, mostly." Not something that'd be really useful in a water race, buuut, who knew, in all honesty. "Then again, Gigimons usually evolve into Guilmons, so... I guess all bets are off regarding you? I doubt you're gonna become a Gerbemon, however. That'd be a really bad joke from whoever formatted your data."
Color her surprised. Hand her the digivice, and so easily? Amelie didn't know what she had done to deserve that, but she couldn't avoid smiling a bit at the gesture. Both at the newfound trust that Liquid now had at her and... because breaking stuff is fun, mostly.
"Well, if you insist... let's treat this digivice with the care and respect it deserves." As she said those words, Amy had already been holding the device, lighting pressing her thumbs against its screen; just as suspected, it immediately cracked at that small amount of pressure. Funny how those devices could be harder than a diamond when the bond between human and digimon was strong... or brittler than fine china when the opposite was true.
Unceremoniously, she let the digivice fall from her grip right into the shack's floor, causing even more cracks to appear across it before... giving the thing a single stomp, completely crushing it under the weight of her sandal. Whatever was left harmlessly dispersed into data that promptly disappeared.
"One thing less to take care of. Do you feel any different, Liquid?" Of course, Amelie wasn't naïve enough to expect him to evolve on the spot, but the definitive severance of that bond should have at least some kind of effect on the digimon. Or at least that's how it should be? Given how much the two had been separated, it wouldn't be surprising if he felt nothing at all, except maybe a vague sensation of release.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before the compliments began to rain right to her, even if it was for reasons she couldn't understand. What could the brunette say? Three people doing at at once was bordering the unfair! Understandably, pink began to powder what otherwise were pale cheeks, the color becoming slightly more intense as the hugs happened.
"You're all gonna make me think I'm some kind of celebrity or something." Luckily, she still managed to keep her cool, despite how flustered she was. "I didn't do anything special! I'm just... helping to the best of my ability, I guess?"
It wasn't like she could do much to hug back when she prisoner of both girls. But... not like she could complain, all things considered. Being appreciated carried this nice feeling to it.
Enough had to be enough, right? The hug had to end, even if not in the way that any of them had envisioned; as she tried to move a bit out of the collective grasp, Amelie tripped with the stool that Katherine was currently using to stand, resulting her in falling backwards, directly on top of the curly-haired girl.
"Ow~." She complained, even though her fall had been broken to an extent by... something rather soft, decently-sized and squishy.
Every ounce of self-control the girl had regarding her blush vanished on that very instant, her face becoming bright red as she did her best effort to stand up. "S-Sorry! I-I didn't mean to!"
She disengaged as quickly as she could, trying to hide her expression to the best of her ability, at least until the red receded a bit. Anyway, it was time to get to work, and now both teams had to finish their jobs, at least regarding the boat. "Hmmm." Ooi was pensive for a second, mostly because she had forgotten what they had tried and what was left to try. It took her some time to remember all the names! "Well, let's try the Big Berries and the Wood Grapes now. With any luck, one of those two will get to be the final component!"
Time to conduct the test; the routine had already been mastered by the duo, and soon enough, the girl was donning the skates and waiting for Liquid to initiate the process.
The result? For a second, the skates began to move erratically, almost as if had lost control, while leaving a heavy, reddish smoke. But... after a couple of seconds, the residue itself disappeared totally, leaving only clear air slowly coming out from the rollers while they moved somewhat constantly in a straight line.
"Huh... what do you think, Liquid? Seems like Big Berries are also a big no. But what about the grapes? Think we should test 'em with the banana?"
And in regards to Jazz and Shisei? Well, that was way more complex than just that. "Well, we have a couple of choices, actually; but I don't think this thing will be able to envelop the whole boat, so..."
Her gaze diverted for a second, setting on the vehicle itself. "We have to decide on whether we'd want to reinforce the hull or give an additional layer of protection to something that would need it like the rudder or the engines. I'm not really sure on what would be the best, in all honesty. What do you think, Jazz?"
After all, it was Jazz the one who'd crew the boat. Not to say that, thus far, none of her preferences regarding this endeavor had been revealed. Maybe she had a good idea on her own.
But, in case she just wanted to do rather than to think... Amelie went and got simple spare parts made more or less from the same materials than their respective counterparts; the rudder, the engine and the hull. Once she has collected the three samples, she gave the Lopmon a confident look.
"You can spit ice and throw tiny twisters, right? Maybe we should conduct some tests on the materials that make the boat, just to see which one needs more protection. We should go outside in order to do that, though! So... ladies first."
If she accepted, they'd go outside in order to begin some target practice. The goal? To see which part needed more protection the most. Among other things, probably!
Said and done, the brunette began to set each piece of materials at a decent distance from the bunny. "Feel free to attack 'em in any way you please. And to begin when you please."

Maybe somehow related to the fact that she had one herself and the sole fact of thinking of something happening to it scared her to death, the sight of Amelie crushing Kouta's digivice was somewhat unsettling to Katherine. It was sad that it had come to this, no doubt, but it was also true that this was de best for Liquid and his future, it was time to let go, to grow as a Digimon, spiritually and maybe even physically. Seeing it destroyed in such a violent manner was definitely hard for Liquid too. The candle closed his eyes at the final stomp, trying to hold himself to the fact that he had a new group, he didn't need something binding him to his past, this was the follow-up of an old dream, but the birth of a new Liquid. It was probably a little soon for the candle to quite place the feeling this event had produced inside of him, but it definitely was a different sensation. -I'm not exactly sure about what I'm feeling right now. But I sure don't feel sad or bad about it, so that's important, Amy-sis.After having drenched themselves with Amelie's piece of knowledge, the girl and the bunny went on to imagine Liquid's possible adult form. -So Meramon... That means Liquid can turn into a big fire Digimon like Mr. Roff. -Katherine reminded very fondly of the sheriff of Rustport, the Meramon who helped Jazz, her brothers and the teenager herself after the battle inside the Gururu Cave. -I hope you really don't become a Meramon, that would suck. -A rebel expression on Jazz face made Katherine remember she and the sheriff didn't get along too well, even when they respected each other deeply. It had definitely been a bad day to have forgotten to put on her swimsuit and not wear anything beneath that blouse; that fall from Amelie on top of her had made Kathrine's feminity go 'ouch!', to say the least. While she carefully analyzed the shield and unscrew the small cover of the remote that came with the pendant, Katherine couldn't help but giggle at Amelie's reaction when the whole scene unfolded; it was hard to catch, but she could swear she saw her face turning completely red. -Cute... -She muttered, only to shake her head right afterward, trying to put her focus on the job she was performing. It was sure hard to do it when that slight pain on her breast reminded her of the whole thing, making her head go back to what an adorable first human friend she had stumbled on. Not long after, though, the girl put her concentration at full throttle, to finish the job properly. Frowning after seeing the red smoke coming out of the roller skates, Liquid slowly started discarding the Big Berries out in his head, the color of the smoke made him think that the bigger fruit was causing the engine to malfunction, once it got consumed, the whole thing seemed to be going smoothly, at a decent speed, but just not quite as fast as it had reached before, while the red smoke came out. After hearing Ooi's remarks about the experiment, the candle silently started to think. -It is true that it may seem like the Big Berry is not the right one but… the roller skaters were going faster when the red smoke was coming out while they seemed to have better control once it stopped doing it. I think it’s likely that what we need is a mixture of both, Ooi-sis! –Snapping his fingers, Liquid finally reached this conclusion. –Probably a lesser part of Big Berry juice, since that seems to be the one making the engine malfunction. –Hopping back to the workbench, the Candlemon just turned at the raven-haired girl with a smile. –Just wait here! After some minutes, Liquid came back to Ooi with another substance in a jar, this time of a dark brown color, to fill the tank attached to her backside again. –I think this is it. I mixed it with the Metal Banana juice too so we can expect this to fully work now. –He muttered, while he waited for the girl to try it. -Y-Yes! –Jazz nodded at Amelie’s suggestion, and went outside with her to try the resistance of the different parts the girl had found between Liquid’s stuff. –I definitely think my petit ears technique is more fit to destroy things, so I will use that!Said and done, Jazz shot a small tornado at each of the parts under study; when she realized the damage was not visible, she decided to shoot around seven whirlwinds to each part. The engine seemed to have withstood the attacks easily, as it was mostly metallic, while the hull and the rudder had seen better days, both being slightly shattered since they were made of some sort of less-resistant wood-type of material. It was still definitely more resistant than an average boat, so they could tell that Liquid had done a good job. Panting, Jazz just let herself fall over the floor, arms, legs, and ears widely spread. –Shisei… I do… have an idea. –Partly out of shyness and partly out of being unable to properly breathe after throwing over twenty tornados, the bunny addressed her team partner. After recovering her breath and standing up, Jazz went on with her suggestion. –Kath did say that we were going to use a ‘delta pressure system’ to manage to expand this through as much of the boat as we can, right? Even if that can’t be enough to cover the whole boat, there may be something else we can use. -It was time for her to use the scarce knowledge she had obtained from her time living at Rustport. –When that thing solidifies after it expands, it looks like some sort of metallic coating; if we could make it expand even more, then we could cover more of the boat, right? So aside from using that pressure system… what about we use heat too? –It was a wild guess, but given the metallic characteristics of the substance, there was a slight chance it could expand even more upon heating, so it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Being honest with herself, Amelie had felt a measure of satisfaction when crushing the digivice, and maybe that had been a bit unsettling to observe. Yet… that was fine, ultimately. Liquid had not experienced any ill-effects, and that was enough to prompt a small smile from the brunette. Those were good news, at least.
It was a good thing that neither Katherine nor Jazz had taken that small accident at heart. The fall hadn't been too harsh, even if the whole deal had its measure of pain. And embarrassment.
Now, regarding the experiments? Ooi and Liquid were definitely onto something, even if the teenager wasn't exactly sure on what. At least until the Candlemon decided to explain his theory regarding the nitro before disappearing in order to properly mix the components. Something like 15% Big Berry, 35% Wood Grapes and 50% Metal Banana? That seemed to be a good proportion, at least in her mind.
But that wasn't her area of expertise. Leave the nerds to figure out that stuff. After a while, the digimon returned.
“Wonder if it'll work out this time.” She pondered as they prepared for the eventual test or this new mixture. With any luck, it'd do!
And… it seemed like it did? This time, Ooi's skates managed to go on relatively slower than in her previous attempts, but just enough for the whole thing to be maneuverable. Once they were done, she began to think.
“You know… I think this has to do with the proportions.” She stated, in a rare display of wisdom. “I think that the amount of Wood Grapes in the mixture is directly proportional to the resulting maneuverability and inversely proportional to nitro speed. You may want to tinker with the Metal Banana-Wood Grape proportion in order to see how much you can push speed while retaining a degree of maneuverability. That'd be for the best, I think!”
Had she… had she just nerded out? Oh gosh, she better stop hanging out with nerds before she caught some of it herself! Or maybe it was too late already? Now, regarding Amelie and Jazz? Let's just say that a somewhat concerned brunette picked up the exhausted rabbit in an attempt to provide her with a measure of comfort by cradling the Lopmon within her arms.
“You did a good job. Thank you very much, Jazz.”
Drawing conclusions from the whole deal wasn't very hard to do. The engine seemed —funnily enough—, like the place that needed the least amount of protection, while the rudder and the hull probably would benefit from yet another layer of defense.
And, probably, they'd be able to accomplish just that! “Heat, huh? That's an idea worth exploring. You've been a good girl so rest out a bit while I test that theory out.”
Leaving both Jazz and the disk in the ground, Amy went through the necessary motions in order to evolve to Driftermon, managed to pick the disk up and slowly began to tamper with it and the parts attacked previously by the bunny.
First, pressure. The device manage to expand just enough to envelop the hull. Then, heat; it was low intensity, but the effects could already be witnessed. It began to expand even further, spreading into the rudder slowly. The hotter the fire, the most it expanded until it enveloped the whole thing, and managed to stay that way until the aberration decided it had enough and ceased her attack, then devolved on the spot.
Leaving a patch of dead grass in the wake of her evolution, she returned to where Jazz was at the moment. “Well, that was a good idea; your theory seems to be true.” To say the least, Amy was satisfied with the result. “Think Katherine will know how to incorporate that to the boat? Having something flammable inside a boat can go super badly of we're not careful.”
In any case, and if the bunny didn't object, the teenager would scoop her up again before returning to the shack.

Like if the raven-haired girl had grown a second head, Liquid just stared at Ooi. –I… see. –He simply uttered. It wasn’t just because she had managed to carefully listen, interpret and come up with her own suggestion regarding the experiment; but because she was probably right! It was just a matter of changing the proportions to give up some control and gain burst power. –Yiayiayiayiayiayia! –Putting both hands on the mid part of his body, the candle just laughed loudly. –That’s amazing, Ooi-sis! I didn’t know you had a scientific side on you! –He knew he was probably wrong and she was not at all enjoying having ‘nerd-out’ regarding the topic, but that was fine; if anything, at least some teasing fun would come out of this.
Said and done, Liquid decided to slightly increase the rate of Metal Banana juice in 5% proportions with each try, while decreasing the Wood-Grape quantity, in order to obtain a boost in speed. It took the duo three attempts more, but they finally got it. Final proportion? 65% for Metal Banana juice, while 20% for Wood Grapes and the non-changing 15% for Big Berries. The result? Ooi being jutted all over the docks, moving at high speed but still managing to control her movements and not destroying anything (or revealing ten years old secrets) in the process. Katherine, who was finally done with the pendant, simply stared at the display of velocity, pretty surprised. –Amazing! –The girl clapped, visually excited. –That’s it, right? -Definitely. –Liquid nodded with a smile. –How did it go with the pendant, Kath-sis? -It’s done. I threw some pieces of wood at it, and it's working outside of the water too now! –Feeling very proud of herself about this, Katherine couldn’t wait to try out the final thing. In the end, Liquid started working on the boat, attaching the small fuel tank between the two barrels of regular fuel, and filling it up with the nitro mixture, to then connecting it with two hoes straight into the engine area. Easier said than done, the whole process took a while.
While the candle worked, Jazz and Amelie came back from outside, with apparently good results regarding the disk and how It could protect the boat. Jazz had helped, suggesting a way of expanding the material based on how the heat expanded some pieces of junk she had seen in Rustport. While the blue-eyed and Jazz explained their findings to the rest of the team, a teasing, mischievous smile could be seen on Jazz’s face, while short giggling came out of her every once in a while. -What’s the matter with you? –Katherine asked, just after Amelie finished her explanation, walking right into the bunny’s trap. Saying that Jazz was enjoying herself, was an understatement. -Oh, it’s nothing, really… -The Lopmon placed her tiny hand on her mouth, giggling again. A second try, maybe? Yes, that would satisfy her enough. –What’s wrong? Do tell. –Katherine insisted. -It’s just that… I got to see another of Shisei’s forms. –There, she said it, making envy and jealousy consume Katherine immediately after. -You showed her another of your forms without me being there!? –A sad expression on Katherine’s face, the girl started mumbling, poking at Amelie. –How could you? How could such a betrayal be possible, I could have expected that from Jazz but from you, Amy? I cannot believe this; I’m never going to be able to see your other forms right? –Meanwhile, Jazz just laughed loudly at her tamer’s frustration, it wasn’t hard to see that the whole thing was just one of the classical ways of ‘Curls’ and Jazz to joke with each other, as they usually did; and this time, Jazz had gotten the upper hand. This teasing could only mean everything was just fine between them. In all honesty, Katherine actually felt pretty proud about how her partner’s interpretation about a simple phenomena produced by the weather in Rustport had actually helped them to improve the defense the disk found by Amelie’s could provide. It was clear from the get-go that the bunny was not the kind of digimon to just limit herself to abiding, anyways!
-All right, the nitro system has been added, and it seems to be working perfectly. –Liquid approached the group, making Katherine forget about the whole thing about missing Amelie’s evolutionary stage, for now. –I’m going to need your disk now, Amy-sis. It’s time to add that to the boat. -Oh, Liquid… -Jazz was about to explain their findings to the candle, but was interrupted mid-sentence. -Don’t worry, Jazz-sis. I heard everything while I worked. Along with the pressure system, this thing should also use a heating system, right? According to what you say, more than high-temperature, the heat needs to be rather constant. –Jazz just listened carefully to Liquid’s conclusion about the matter; the candle seemed like a completely different digimon when he was ‘being a nerd’ as Ooi would call it. –In that sense, I think if we attached this close to the engine, it should be enough to keep us protected, while the motor is running. –And yes, that made a lot of sense for Katherine. The group decided to go and make dinner, while the candle managed these last details.
The old clock hung on the wall announced that it was exactly 10 pm when Liquid finished this last attaching, finally, letting the group see the final result.
The boat was finished. It didn’t look too different from the small wooden-like boat they had seen yesterday, except for the small fuel tank attached between the barrels. If the girls saw between the small gap at the backside of the boat, they could see the engine, with the small glass-like disk affixed to its upper part. -So, what do you think? I don’t think any kind of testing is required right now since we didn’t change anything about the boat itself, but we just added gadgets to it, and since you all tested those, they should work just fine. –The testing they had conducted individually on these items, was probably enough for the day, without mentioning the small lake was probably not the best place to try the boat, given the little ‘accident’ that had taken place yesterday.
-There’s one thing missing. –A grin showed in Katherine’s mouth, while Jazz ran towards the corner of the room, coming back holding the pole with the red flag with a yellow beer painted on it on top, and quickly fixing it to a small gap on the boat’s floor. –There. –The bunny smiled at the Candlemon who, as usual, laughed effusively.
And with that final touch, the boat of the Beer Flag Team was finally finished.

For a moment, Ooi visibly blushed. "Oh, h-hush. It was just a wild guess, anyway." Maybe if she forgot really fast about this whole deal, she'd be able to push the nerd out of her system before it was too late; yeah, that sounded like a good plan.
Unluckily, her theories have proven to be correct, and quite smart to boot! It was interesting to see how the proportion had the desired effect and that the new mixtures were being tested and improved with each try. The end result? The highest amount of speed was reached at 65%-20%-15%.
But, she had to admit one thing. Skating around had been very fun! Especially since it had gotten progressively quicker! As good as it got, given that overall, the tests had been a success in every sense of the word. Not to say that, seemingly, Katherine had also been successful on her front. Everything was piecing up nicely, and it seemed like the boat would be ready at any moment now.
"Now, the only thing left is-" Yup, both Jazz and Amelie returned once everything had been said and done regarding the shield and the nitro, the Lopmon going as far as to tease her tamer pretty boldly, which in turn had repercussions in... the brunette.
Raising her hands in an innocent gesture, Amy wasn't all that sure on how to react in the face of this situation... besides in the way she knew more than well, of course.
"Well, you can consider that a reward of sorts, kinda? Jazz helped me a lot, so she got to so one of my forms." She stated, a bit nonchalantly. "You haven't done anything to deserve it, so why would I?" A teasing grin was the only fitting gesture for a situation like this. "So, who knows! If you're a good girl like Jazz, you might get to see them down the line."
That would've taken care of the most important bits regarding the testing and fine-tuning of every new piece of equipment the boat would have. The only thing left was for Liquid to install everything and they'd be good to go!
Or not really? Considering that Jazz had gotten the last final piece on top of the boat; now it was fully finished. Watching at their handiwork, both teenagers smiled.
"Looks rather nice, doesn't it? I'm sure it'll do a great job tomorrow."
"Yeah. It's going to be an entertaining watch for sure."
Pity that the sun was setting already. The afternoon had passed way faster than any of them could've predicted, and nightfall could only herald that the next day was coming nearer and nearer. And... honestly? Amy felt a bit too lazy to cook after a long day of work. "I'm gonna buy some food or something. Any of you wants something? Don't worry, it's on me. We gotta celebrate that the boat is finished!"
Getting to Terminus or wherever in order to procure one of the many dishes sold there was a fairly easy endeavor when you had access to portal technology. Dinner itself would be a simple affair too, and after a round of showering, everyone was already in the dorm and on their night clothes. Getting a good amount of rest was essential in order to perform in the race, after all.
There was one thing missing, however. Ooi had fallen asleep like a log, even despite the nightstand's light being turned on and that not even everyone was fully settled on her beds. "She's a bit... amazing on that regard, ain't she?" Amelie had to remark, from her sitting position atop her bed. There was one thing left, however!
"Ahem." Her blue eyes were directed at Katherine right away. "If I remember correctly, somebody promised to tuck me in and tell me a bedtime story. Do you remember who that person is, Jazz? Because I can't seem to remember. A bit of a pity, ain't it?"
Honestly, evolving to perfect level hadn't been that much effort given that the teenager pretty much hadn't exerted herself, but a promise was a promise, and she intended to milk it for all what it was worth.
Would Liquid witness that small show, or was he already asleep? No way to know!

After witnessing the long-awaited final touch on the boat they were using tomorrow, the group got ready to finally have their dinner. Amelie’s skills proven to be amazing over and over again as she managed to go… somewhere, and bring takeout food for the whole team. While the whole scene developed, Liquid couldn’t help but think that was probably part of the same technology that had been implemented on Kouta’s digivice, allowing him to go back and forth from the Human World while it was of his interest. And Katherine? Well, she just admired and learned with every display of the many epic abilities her blue-eyed friend had at her disposal, regardless if she had seen them in action before or not, they always managed to astonish her.
Dinner was great and shower time even better. Being the last to shower, Katherine went out of the bathroom wearing a light green sleeveless shirt, her curly hair loose and still slightly humid. She found Jazz and Amelie chatting, each of them sitting on her own bed, while Ooi and Liquid were fast asleep already. It was nice to see that everything had turned out just fine regarding the candle and his trust towards the group. The Beer Flag team looked as solid as ever, the boat was ready and the excitement for tomorrow was already running through Katherine's veins.
Before sleeping, Liquid did explain that they should wake up at 6 am to take the boat out of the docks and then take it to the beach that led to the Binary Archipelago, where the race would begin. Since the race was a big event, those who weren’t feeling too nervous or scared of getting seasick could grab a bite around the multiple stands over there. Katherine knew she was not going to be one of those, she planned to let the eating for after the race, even when she knew her gluttonous bunny partner would probably choose differently. At 9 am the teams would have to double check their assistance, at 9:30 Delu would explain the details of this year’s race and the start horn would echo at 10. The cards were on the table and there was no more respite, tomorrow was the big day.
That, of course, once the usual teasing coming from her two cheekiest partners would cease. –I-I … I haven’t forgot! –At first, lost for words, Katherine just turned at Amelie, who was sitting on top of her bed already, staring at her, while Jazz just giggled. –Tell her the story about how we became partners! Oh, wait! Tell her the one with the Trailmon! Or the one at the moun…- A loud yawn interrupted Jazz’s own sentence, as her excited voice shifted into a sleepy, tired one. Raising the Lopmon for a hug, which the bunny immediately reciprocated, a whisper ensued. –Yes, yes, I’ll tell her all the stories. –Jazz quietly closed her eyes, and her breathing got a bit slower, while the curly haired just softly patted her head, rocking her a little. After some minutes, she placed a very much asleep Jazz back on her bed.
-It doesn’t take much for her to fall asleep either. –Walking back towards Amelie’s bed, which was right in front of Jazz’s, the girl would take a seat, if Amelie yield her some room. –But Ooi is something else, isn’t she? Even before I went into the shower she just fell asleep at the spot. –Katherine's voice tone was fairly lower now, since she didn’t want to wake any of her sleeping partners up.
Blushing a little before going for it, the girl took a breathe and decided to just do it. –Now it’s your turn. –She raised the sheets, with her right hand, so Amelie could get under them. Once her peer did this, she would tuck her inn, to then do something she definitely would never do if her friend was Japanese: leaning forward at a very slow pace and using the edge of her lips, Katherine would give her a soft, warn kiss on the forehead. –My mom used to do that to me when she tucked me in as a child, so… -Finishing the sentence was probably not necessary, she was too flustered for that. –I hope you don’t mind. –Hopefully she didn’t, since that was just a very home-like way of tucking her inn.
Maybe because of her good spirits regarding the objectives achieved today. Maybe because she was just very grateful towards Amelie for picking her up when she was down. Maybe simply because she felt like, and decided, for once, to not overthink before doing it (or maybe because of the three prior reasons combined, really); Katherine decided it was time to give back at least a part of what her friend had been giving to her since last night, everytime she got too close. -I think you’re the one who had been a very good girl, by the way. –The girl remarked, obviously making reference to that coment Amelie had uttered back at the docks. –So you can have that story or… anything you want, really. –A kind, yet somehow shy smile made its way to Katherine’s face as she said this. Leaning forward again, this time almost laying her body over the bed in order to reach Amy’s left ear with her mouth, Katherine whispered on the blue-eyed's ear in the most delicate and feminine way she could. –I’m sorry if I’ve not been a good girl myself so far. I guess you’d just have to teach me, right?
Even when she felt she sucked at this, she just had to try, right? It wasn’t fair she was the one ending up all flustered every time. Even though, to be fair, she was pretty blushed and steamy while she did all of this, so there was a very high chance that her plan had backfired, especially if it didn’t have any kind of effect on the targeted teenager. Of course, she wasn't so dumb to think that her friend wouldn't come back with something even worst! But she was prepared; ready to back up each and every one of the words she had just uttered. After all, what was the worst thing Amy could ask for her to do?

Of course, Amelie's remark just had the desired effect. Katherine was flustered and Jazz was more or less joining that small teasing endeavor, all the while Ooi and Liquid were already soundly asleep. Not like the Lopmon would last a lot more, though; before even fully finishing everything she had to say, she was already as asleep as the Candlemon and the shortest human present.
"It seems like we have three sleepyheads in our group." She remarked, a small smile on her face while looking at everyone that was already asleep. Was Ooi even beginning to... snore a bit? Welp. "Yeah, I how quickly she can go from wide awake to totally knocked out is really surprising, honestly. If I didn't know better, I'd almost say that she's not human."
A small giggle ensued from that comment, even if the brunette did her best to maintain a low tone. Now like it was any louder than Ooi's soft snores, anyway.
Now, the two friends were sitting next to each other, Amy made some room for her peer to sit more comfortably as she adopted a bit of a cross-legged position amid her bed. "My turn, huh?" Seemingly, she was sticking to her promise! Slowly, the girl complied to Katherine's requests, and soon enough, she found herself within the covers of her bed and with her forehead kissed. What could she say; it felt nice.
"Why would I mind?" The brunette replied, her expression being a simple smile. "If anything, it makes me remember to how one of my older sisters tucked me in when I was a kid. The biggest tomboy I've seen in my life, but still really sweet when she wanted to, even if a bit awkward. A bit like you, in a sense!"
Barely containing a snicker at both the memory and the black-haired teen's comment. "Anything I want...?"
Having somebody directly over her was definitely not how she had pictured this day's end. But it wasn't like Amelie could complain, right? It was a nice sight, in a sense.
Regarding what followed suit? As soon as they were face to face again, Katherine would notice a grin coming from Amy. Almost predatory in nature, it was definitely something that the black-haired girl had never seen before. Slowly, she leaned into her ear, and for a second, the only thing that would be heard would be the brunette's slow breath.
It took her a couple of seconds before she began to whisper into it. It had been a good night of sleep, and the team was ready to rumble as early as 6 AM! Everyone was ready and in top shape, and even if they couldn't have breakfast in the shack, the didn't mean they couldn't get some snacks or something while they were on their way or after reaching the race site.
"How are we gonna tackle this?" Amy asked, her interest obvious. "How much people do we need on the boat, and how many can remain the shore? Because Katherine has told me that I could help the team better from the shore, which is something more or less smart, and even then..."
The brunette looked at Ooi, a good deal of concern on her face. "I don't want for her to be on the boat. This is too dangerous for a human without a digimon partner, no matter how many protective measures the boat has."
For a second, it seemed like her friend was about to complain, but she caught that... Amelie was being serious, and that she genuinely cared for her well-being. Ooi couldn't help to be moved, even if a little bit.
"I... understand. It's fine; don't worry. I'll be cheering for you all!" It was kinda obvious that she wasn't 100% happy about the whole deal, but she understood the motives and... frankly? She agreed with them.

Hoping that tomorrow’s race didn’t end up like her recent attempt to counterattack on Amy’s teasing, Katherine went and tried to get some sleep. Aside from Ooi’s snoring, the excitement about the epic even taking place in just some hours along with her nervousness regarding the whole thing weren’t helping her to get her rest she needed. But that was fine, really, she would probably be too full of adrenaline to even feel any tiredness at all. Of course, there was also the recurring thought of what did Amelie mean with those words she whispered into her ear, but she was kind of getting used to spending a good chunk of time trying to decipher her friend’s words already, anyways.
The morning came and the Beer Flag Team took their boat out of Liquid’s warehouse, first through the small lake next to the shack and then rolling it through the jungle over a six-wheeled car Liquid had prepared, Amelie and the candle pulling from the vehicle from up front and Ooi, Jazz and Katherine walking at its sides. They went out of the jungle going around Garmore’s warehouse, Katherine wondering for a second about where the shipwright could be by now. From there, the walk through the beach until the meeting spot for the teams (exactly where they had signed in two days ago) proved to be rather short.
The whole place looked different now, though. The group encountered a huge aisle formed by stands with merchants selling all kinds of merchandise, food, and drinks.
-Enjoy the race eating the best popcorn of all Whitewater! -Take your shirts and dolls of Garmore the Builder and Sturdy Inra right now!
Through this aisle, all kinds of digimon (and even some humans) walked browsing through the stores and spending their money. -The race is a big deal after all, huh? –Katherine just looked everywhere while they walked, truly fascinated by the whole environment. -Everyone around Whitewater and even other parts of the Southern Tropics love to come here to watch the race personally and buy the merchandise. –It wasn’t hard to see why this whole even excited Liquid so much. –The tickets to see the actual thing through the big screens inside the stadium or at some isles around the Archipelago are limited, but some digimon still rather come here and see it through these small screens at the stands or outside the stadium instead of staying at home and watch it through the TV. –No kidding, the place was packed!
At the end of the aisle formed by the small self-made stores, some sort of circular shaped roofless dome could be seen. It seemed to be made of some sort of wood material, with its left side open, leading to the water. –That’s the starting point! –Liquid said, pointing at the structure. –All the teams should gather at the stadium, and sail from there into open sea when the sign is given.
After those who were feeling up to it had breakfast at one of the stands (Katherine not being one of them), The group listened to Amelie’s comment regarding Ooi’s safety and asking about their strategy. –Delumon said that the team had to be of at least three members. –Her index finger on her lower lip, the green-eyed remembered the bird-like digimon’s words. –So those would be Liquid, Jazz and… -The girl then turned at Liquid. –You said we’re sailing into open sea, right?
-Yes! –The Candlemon nodded. –We’re going around the third isle of the Binary Archipelago and then coming back. -Then there’s no way Amy can stay here by the shore. –Katherine remarked immediately, shaking her head. That would only give them the firepower Amelie could bring at sailing and reaching the goal, leaving them unprotected during the whole competence, not an option. –Amy has to go with us on the boat. Jazz can’t evolve if I’m not by her so I need to go too. -That makes Ooi-sis the only one staying here, right? -I think so.
The group reached the entrance of the stadium, two doors at their disposal. A big one with a huge line in front, with some furry brown digimon receiving tickets; and another one of around the same size, with the sign ‘Participating teams’ with a Ranamon right in front.
-Hi! Are you one of the teams competing in our race? –The frog-like girl asked upon being approached. –I see, Beer Flag Team… -She muttered, checking on some sort of tablet. –Yes! Here you are. Are you using that to compete? -Ranamon's eyes fixed on the boat, as she tilted her head. -Yes, yes! This is our boat! –Liquid replied effusively. -A boat, huh? Very interesting! I’ll get someone here to pick it up and get it ready for the sailing sign. –Not long after, another of the brown-fur digimon who the digivice identified as Jungle Mojyamon approached the group and took the boat into a third door, apparently only for personal. –Please, go ahead! All the teams are gathering at the middle of the stadium, getting ready to receive instructions regarding the race. –The frog digimon then frowned at her tablet, like some information was missing. –But first, I need to know who’s the captain of your team.
-The… captain? –The classic ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about’ tilt of Katherine’s head ensued. -Yes. The captain is the leader of the team, they’re the most crucial member of the crew. If the captain is taken out in combat, the race is over for that team, while the team can only consider they have finished the race if the captain goes through the finish line; if they don’t, it doesn’t matter if any other member of the team reached the goal, it doesn’t count until the captain does. An important decision incoming implied an important question to make first. –Does the other teams know who the captain of each team is? –Katherine asked. -Not at all, that’s one of the most interesting parts of the race. –Ranamon replied with a smile. -Strategy is important regarding this matter.
After this, the decision seemed to be clear. –I think it should be Liquid. –Katherine stated, firmly. -M-Me? –Pointing at himself, the Candlemon asked. -I think so too. –Jazz uttered, nodding. –No one is going to think we would pick him as a Captain. Plus, he’s the one who knows the boat perfectly, so it’s very likely he will be at the boat at any time; so if the boat is the first thing to cross the goal, Liquid will be too. -Katherine added, supporting her theory. -What do you think, Amy, Ooi? –She consulted the two other members.
-The other thing I need to know, in case you’ve got one, is who will be your technical supporter. -Another term the group wasn’t familiar with came into the conversation. Ranamon explained the concept immediately this time. –It’s an optional role, not every team needs to have one. The technical supporter is a member that won’t go into the open sea with the rest of the crew, they will remain at the shore, and will be able to communicate with all of you through this. –Out of a box next to her, Ranamon took out four earpieces and a headset. –They will be able to see all of the screens at the stadium, basically knowing where is everyone at every moment, being able to give instructions to the team based on this. Not every team has one, but it is a good plus for most of them.
Immediately, Katherine, Jazz, and Liquid turned at Ooi. It was time for the shortest girl around to shine?

It was a picturesque panorama, that much was for sure. Whitewater was as lively as it could be, and the happy atmosphere was very contagious; the anticipation was almost inebriating, and the excitement to finally get on that boat and begin the race couldn't be higher at the moment. Even if Amelie hadn't been that into the race at first, she felt as fired up as she could.
Who'd miss an opportunity like this, anyway? "It seems like it is." Was the simple response Katherine got. "But you kinda can expect that to be the reception of a highly anticipated event that happens once every ten years, you know? Can you imagine us here, ten years into the future competing yet again? That'd be fun."
Of course, even if the excitement currently flooding the air was palpable, the being that was the most excited about this whole deal was Liquid. Understandably so, given that this was something that had been cultivated for over twenty years. Heck, Amelie herself wasn't even twenty years old!
Once the group had reached the starting point, enough places to buy what could be considered a light breakfast were abounding. The teenage pair poofed for five minutes or so, only for each to return with a plastic cup in one hand and a half-eaten croissant on the other.
For a second, Amy's eyes widened at the sudden change of plans. Maybe that had been her misinterpreting the whole deal? No way to know, honestly! But it wasn't like she could complain about that. More fun to her! "Got it. Hope my weight won't be too much of an issue to the boat, then; I guess I can decide to not evolve unless absolutely necessary. It's going to be a bit tricky, but I think I can handle it."
Ooi seemed a little sadder at the notion, but did her best to stomach it up. Tough blow, but she was a tough girl, and was determined to make the best out of this situation, making her best to remember that this was for her safety.
Entering was a simple deal, just as responding to the questions asked by the Ranamon, who apparently was in charge of rounding the teams up. Two special roles, huh? The 'captain' and 'technical supporter'.
"Liquid being the captain makes the most sense." Amelie quipped, almost as if confirming the obvious while Ooi herself nodded. Regarding the 'technical support'? It almost seemed to be tailor-made for her! All the potential sadness and/or frustration the black-haired girl felt vanished on that very instant.
"Yes, of course! Leave it to me! You won't get anyone better at the task than me!" Her fire had returned, and probably stronger than ever; maybe she had known all this time that she'd be a liability at best from the start and now felt that she could finally be useful for the team? That was likely.
Now that their team was set and ready to go, the only thing was for everyone to gather at the middle of the stadium and meet the other teams.
One last surprise, while they were at it. There was a certain Terriermon among the competitors in the race, even though it seemed that she hadn't noticed the entrance of the 'Beer Flag Team'. She was currently accompanied by a small, fish-like digimon who floated not too far from her and two human beings; a boy and a girl, who seemed to be at more or less... Amelie's age.
Funnily enough, Liquid could probably recognize that blonde girl from somewhere. Would he remember her? And most importantly... would she remember him?

The idea of competing ten years into the future in the next edition of the race as a team again made Katherine happy, not because of the race itself (even when competing again as winners did sound pretty awesome) but because of the fact that Amelie was actually considering they would be together by then.
-That would be really fun! Maybe we can start a streak just like the one that Garmore had! -Maybe it had just been a thought out of the blue and the blue-eyed didn't notice how much it meant to her friend, but for Katherine, it was a way of her saying that she thought of her as a friend on the long term. Then again, that was probably what friendships were about, right? It didn't seem to make sense to engage into some sort of partnership with someone if you didn't see it going the distance. Whatever the reason was, Amelie's comment made Katherine feel loved, and that was a wonderful feeling, no doubt.
-We're counting on you, Shisei! -Jazz addressed Amelie with a smile, regarding their partner staying behind and helping the team. -I wish we could find a way of you evolving outside of the boat to protect us when necessary, but still not falling behind from our movement. By chance you don't have an evolution that can fly, right? -It was something unlikely in all likelihood, but the French girl had proven to be a box of surprises countless times in the last few days, so it was worth the shot! -All right! I'll do my best, sisters! -A visibly excited Liquid, now the official captain, squealed. If they could rest assured that someone would probably over-perform at this competence, that was Liquid, he had been waiting for this so much, he was aiming to win no matter what.
The excitement showed by Ooi was sort of contagious too; it was impossible to deny a bond had been formed between the raven-haired chibi and Katherine and Jazz; the duo had really got a liking into her. -I'm sure you'll do great, Ooi. -Katherine mustered a warm smile while she gazed at the teenager.
Roles decided, the group entered the dome. The place was completely crowded! Thinking that there was still a huge line outside made Katherine even wonder where were they going to fit so many people; it seemed like some seats still remained unoccupied, but the place was packed. At the center of the dome, there was just sand and some participants reunited. Just upon entering, the group could see a huge tower right in front of them, between the seats, where Delumon and a Ranamon could be seen at the top. Around the whole stadium screens of all kind of sizes were scattered; this made sense since once the competitors sailed, this would be the only way they could see the action.
If they took a look at the crowd, they could feel the environment was clearly contagious: some digimon cheering, some other still eating and others just talking, but everyone waiting for the big event to start.
-Yooooo, sisters! -A squeaky, feminine elder-like voice waved at them from the seats just behind their entrance, upon turning, they caught sight of some sort of old-lady digimon wearing a pink dress and a big hat with a rose on the top. -Who's that? -Jazz asked, tilting her head. -It's the old man! -A wide smile formed in Liquid's mouth. -Yoooo! Old man! -Waving his hands, he greeted this digimon. If the girls looked carefully they would discover that as a matter of fact, it was Garmore, dressed as some kind of... old lady? -I get he didn't want to be recognized and make a fuss but... did he had to wear something so ridiculous? -Katherine sweatdropped, moving her hand slowly, as she awkwardly greeted waved to the disguised shipwright.
-Oh, our empress is finally here! -That was an annoying voice Katherine and Amelie would recognize anywhere. At the seats behind them too, not too far from the Nanimon, Tyrus, Caesar, and Leo could be seen, the latter greeting them. -Oh, it's them! -Tyrus and Caesar turned towards the group. -Heeeey! We'll be cheering for you, Empress! -The three Yamnamon buzzed happily. -'Empress'? Who are those? -Jazz quirked an eyebrow, staring at the trio. -They are some awful insects that put Amy through some riddle to give us one of the fruits we needed -The explanation came from a Katherine well hid behind Amelie already; even though the insects were pretty far from them, she just couldn't even see them.
The group could see how the three insects made way, as a huge digimon was moving through the place looking for a seat. -Shut up! the great Blossomon is going to take a seat around here, you peasants. -The great flower-like digimon they had met at the jungle to obtain the Metal Bananas seemed to be looking for a place to watch the race from. Surprisingly enough (or not) he was still wearing the crown made of wax Liquid had made for him two days ago. -Heeeeeey! Lion-brooo! -Liquid waved his hands at the monster, Katherine jumping right away to cover his mouth. -We really don't need you making him mad right now.
-The insides of the dome have plenty of digimon, too! -Jazz remarked, taking a look around them. Multiple teams could be seen, and they could even recognize some faces. -Look! Sturdy Inra! -The bunny said pointing at the sea serpent, who seemed to have a team of two frog-like four-legged digimon with blue strips on their backs. The digivice quickly identified them as Betamons. -Hey there, kid. I'm glad to see you and your team made it. -The MegaSeadramon floated towards the group with a smirk. Both Jazz and Katherine greeted him with a bow. -That's right, marine old man! -Liquid threw a smile back at the mighty digimon.
-I really hope to see you giving your best, after all, you're a disciple of that man. -Nostalgically, Inra turned to the seats behind the entrance, where Garmore greeted everyone, trying to impersonate the voice of an old lady as he saluted; making Inra immediately regret what he had just said. -H-He's always acting stupid. Retaking the path of his speech, he threw a defying look at the candle. -You must know I won't take it easy on you, me and my team are going to leave everything in there. -Seeing such a nice guy as Inra showing a competitive spirit, definitely made Katherine and Jazz respect the creature more. This was a digimon who had won the race six years in a row, after all. So if there was someone they should take care of, it was him.
Once Inra left, Jazz and Katherine also caught sight of the evil looking digimon they had seen on the beach, looking as intimidating as always. They were just silently reunited, waiting for Delumon to start speaking. The shrub-bird-like digimon didn't make himself wait any longer, as all the teams seemed to be gathered inside the stadium already.
-Ladies and Gentlemens! Please be welcome to the forty-sixth edition of the Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race! -The crowd roared in excitement upon hearing the Delumon talk. They all knew it the long-awaited moment was about to arrive. -As always, I, Delu the Delumon and the beautiful Sofia the Ranamon will be your hosts for today. So please, prepare for the most exciting time of your digital lives! -The people standing at the line outside finally seemed to have entered, and not a single soul more could fit inside the stadium. -You know I don't like to make you wait, don't you? So why don't we skip any formalities and get to know our participants before I explain the basic rules of this year's race? Sofia, why don't you make the honors? -Immediately, Sofia jumped into the mic.
While Delumon spoke, the group went through all the teams around the place with their gaze, since now it was safe to assume everyone was there. The last team in entering had been Snake and his TOXIC team, accompanied by the two shell-like digimon, which the digivice identified as Shellmon for the pink and MoriShellmon for the green one. Trying to ignore these, they continued browsing through the teams, to see one very familiar face.
-Look! It's Marie! -Jazz pointed at one of the teams, standing between the others. She was damn right! That was definitely the Terriermon they had seen two days ago inside the jungle. But this time she was with... two humans!? That was a big shock for Katherine, not only she didn't know there were other humans competing in the race, but she was completely oblivious to the fact that Marie was participating too!
The shocking came in a bigger measure for Liquid, though, who's eyes widened upon seeing one of the girl's Marie was standing next to. And what do you know? That was exactly the first team Sofia was announcing, by saying the name of each member and the name of the team.-I-It can't be... -Liquid muttered, holding a countenance that mixed shocking and horror in equal parts.

Competing in here again would definitely be a fun endeavor. After all, given the difference regarding how time went by, it wouldn't be too hard for ten additional years to pass in the Digital World for the race's next edition. It was... a little less than a year and a half, wasn't it? It didn't seem very unlikely, in all honesty!
"Start a streak?" Amelie grinned confidently. "We're gonna double Inra's streak, at the very least! Our names will be engraved on that cup so many times that any future competitors will groan at the mere sight of us walking on Whitewater!" If that wasn't confidence bordering arrogance, probably nothing was! But it was fine to be confident, wasn't it? As long as it didn't become recklessness or haughtiness, it was fine.
A smile in Jazz's direction ensued; being appreciated was a nice feeling for sure, especially since the brunette was probably the 'strongest' member of the team, and everyone seemed to have that detail present. She couldn't help laughing a bit at Katherine's comment, almost as if it were some kind of funny joke.
"An evolution that can fly?" Amy made a dismissing gesture with her hand. "Dear, all of them can 'fly'; that won't be an issue at all. Guess the plan's me flying right after evolving so I won't weigh the boat down? That sounds smart." Everyone seemed to have eased into their positions pretty well! And satisfied with her roles! Could it get any better? Really unlikely.
In the dome, more or less what everyone expected began to happen; all the teams they had met in the past, and even some acquaintances they've met on their quest began to appear. Garmore donning the most ridiculous outfit ever was present too, much to the team's dismay.
"Dude." Ooi had to remark, her expression as deadpan as it could be. "Couldn't he just... devolve to a less Nanimon-y form? That'd have done the trick without needing to crossdress, right? It's a bit... creepy, honestly." Amelie herself couldn't help but to shiver at the sight, but the two of them managed to wave at Garmore. As ridiculous and unsettling his disguise was, he was, ultimately, still a good guy.
Not like Amelie could dwell on that for long, anyway, considered that some of the 'friends' they had made on the forest decided to make their presence known too. It was the ones who looked like giant dragonflies and the Blossomon too! "Hey, guys! Take you're here to watch us win? Don't worry; this will be a race to remember!"
Ooi herself was about to ask what was up, but Jazz had managed to ask the same question before her. She managed to quirk an eyebrow at how Katherine seemed to be so scared about them, however. Luckily, Amy was big enough for her to hide more or less completely.
Even Inra decided to make his presence known! It was a bit funny how popular the so-called 'Beer Flag Team' had become. Not as formal as everyone else, the teenagers just waved at the MegaSeadramon, all while Ooi couldn't avoid to giggle a bit at the nickname Liquid had given him; 'Marine Old Man'.
The stage was more or less set up by now, wasn't it? Every participant was in place, and both Delumon and Ranamon were talking now. Once the latter took the mic, she began to introduce each set of participants.
"Thank you very much for the warm introduction, Delu~!" Sofia added, jumping into the spotlight. "This year's teams are definitely among the best we've gotten thus far, including our longtime mainstay, Sturdy Inra and even the successors of our last edition's winner in Snake's TOXIC team!"
She went on, beginning to detail each team and their participants, once again covering Inra's team, TOXIC, and even mentioning Beer Flag down the line when referring to the teams that were participating in the race for the first time.
"And, for the last team that signed up for this race!" The spotlight was now setting on Marie's team now. "It's the Deep Sea Team; one of our few teams with humans in them! It's composed by Marie, the Terriermon, Marina, the Swimmon and the humans Sekai and Makoto! Once again, please clap loudly for them!"
"Yup, that's definitely Marie." Talk about being captain obvious, Ooi. "Didn't know she was participating in the race. I guess it makes sense she left us so early the other day, then? Maybe she didn't want to know about the secrets of our boat because she'd feel like she'd have an unfair advantage. That's so noble of her part."
Liquid would notice that something was... off, however. Maybe his memory playing some weird tricks, but he couldn't remember any human of that group bearing any of those two names. Why... why was that the case? No way for him to know, at least for now.
"And that's all the participants for this year's edition of our beautiful race~!" Sofia seemed to be both elated and excited. "Get on your positions! And... we're back with Delu!"
Now it was the bird's turn to explain what the whole deal with the race was about.

While inside the stadium, the group continued their little talk. Nothing important was happening yet, so a little chatting couldn’t hurt. Plus, it was probably the best to calm those nerves right? Amelie’s confidence regarding doubling Inra's streak made Katherine smile. Boy, was the brunette a cocky one huh? She had all right to be one, in all honesty, she was the strongest card in the team’s deck, and that couldn’t be denied. -D-Dear? –Katherine slightly blushed, as her friend referred to her in this affectionate way; she couldn’t pay much attention to anything being said after this. Regarding this matter, Katherine had been staring at Amelie for a while now, her hands down, playing with her index fingers in a way that denoted shyness, like she was trying to say something. - What!? They can? That’s great! –While Katherine didn’t say anything else, Jazz was the one who reacted to this reveal. Amelie's evolutions being able to fly was amazingly good for the team’s strategy, no doubt. –Great idea, Kath. –Some praising for her partner was also well deserved; even though Jazz was more or less used to this. It took a while for the bunny to actually understand the “old lady” was Garmore in a disguise, she bursting up in laughter right when she noticed, thanks to Ooi’s comment. -Oh! The passionate heart of our empress, risking it all to impress her loyal subjects! –Leo spoke on his classic dramatic tone, as Amelie greeted them. It wasn’t hard to notice the dragonflies were part of Amy’s fanbase. The laughs and shenanigans were over for now, while the whole team paid much attention to Sofia while she introduced the rest of the participants. While she did this, some commentary from Delu accompanied her remarks. -As usually, Inra trusting in the strength of the new generations, having a team with two rookies! Could that be a hasty move considering Betamons are not great swimmers? –He asked, leaving the question open, regarding Inra’s team. -TOXIC Team looks pretty dangerous if you ask me, Sofia! Snake the Gerbemon is nothing else than the son of Cobra! The winner of our last edition in that close finish against Garmore the Builder ten years ago! -There was no doubt TOXIC team was pretty popular, due to their past. Katherine could notice the rest of the teams gazing at them with a certain contempt, while the introduction for the rest of the teams continued. Could it be that TOXIC team was going to be targeted once they sailed? That was definitely a possibility, but no way to know until the race finally began. –So we can be sure Snake will probably do a great performance today, along with his teammates Koki and Kaku, the Shellmon brothers! –The cheering from the crowd was definitely split between Waru Team (Sturdy Inra’s team) and TOXIC team. For the other teams, the cheering was pretty neutral, including the Beer Flag Team when they were introduced. -Apparently this Beer Flag Team is constituted by fans of Garmore the Builder’s team, and that’s why they are using the same name, I wonder if they can live up to the expectations of them carrying that name! We pay respects to Garmore, wherever he is! –There was no doubt the builder was widely known and love through all the fans of the race. Between the other teams mentioned by Sofia as she went through the introductions were the ‘A Team’ constituted by those evil looking digimon who went just by their species’ names: Octomon, Anomalocarimon, and Ebidramon. Just who were these guys? Katherine couldn’t help but feel sort of unsettled by their presence. She had a bad feeling about those guys since the minute she saw them. There was a fourth member of that team that they hadn’t seen back at the beach two days ago, he was a pirate-like creature, with a huge hook by his left hand and a cannon by his left. Sinister digimons aside, some of the teams that raised Katherine’s attention were the Ricky’s Crewmates team, formed by 5 yellow dinosaurs called ‘ Agumons’ and a submarine digimon named Submarimon who was already at the water. Speaking of being at the water, a gigantic whale was actually there too! Apparently, it had evolved into that form after they entered since Katherine hadn’t noticed it until they were introduced. The team was called Blink team, and the rest of the members were already inside of the whale identified as Whamon! They were two fish digimon with gloves and a plain expression, named Manbomon. Finally, the long-awaited introduction came, Deep Sea Team. -That could be the case. –Jazz stated, regarding why Marie had decided to part ways with them so quickly. If that was the case, the Terriermon was really a righteous digimon, but would probably be a fierce participant too. Katherine couldn’t picture two humans competing on this race if they weren’t about to bring something new into the table. For the moment, Liquid had started to have second thoughts regarding if this was the girl he thought he knew. She didn’t have the same name, which was the main factor throwing him off, but she sure looked a lot like… that girl. -What’s wrong, Liquid? –Jazz asked as she noticed some startled expression on the candle, while they could hear Sofia closing the round of presentations, sixteen teams participating in the race in total. -No… it’s nothing. I thought I knew one of those humans but… I’m probably wrong. –The fire digimon explained. Katherine quirked an eyebrow at the statement; how many humans Liquid knew? Besides them and... that group he was a part of six years ago. Before they could inquire more deeply regarding this matter, the sound of Delumon taking back the mic made them raise their attention back at the speakers echoing through the whole stadium, while they slowly walked towards the shore, almost touching the water, they could see their boat right in front of them, stilly floating over the water. The bird was making some commentary regarding the past edition of the race along with some jokes to entertain the audience, while the teams took their positions. -You have a boat, right? Please, get into it. Except for your technical supporter, in case you have one. –One of the Jungle Mojyamon giving instructions to the team by the shore instructed. It seemed like it was time to split ways from their technical supporter. -We’re counting on you, Ooi! –Katherine gave a firm gaze to the girl, setting the earpiece inside her right ear and then holding Ooi’s hand with both of her own, in an affectionate gesture, trying to show how much she trusted her. -You better tell us everything going on around us. –Both Jazz and Katherine were expecting their partner to keep the whole squad posted, being sixteen teams involved, it would probably be hard to keep an eye on everyone. Her digivice on her pocket, Katherine lifted Liquid to get him on the boat, while Jazz rested above her head for the ride; it would be a shame their captain got wet this early (or ever) into the competence right? The Candlemon thanked her once he was put down inside their ship. Katherine took off her sandals and made a small bun in her hair using a red scrunchy. She then took off her blue shirt, showing the top part of a blue bikini, still wearing her blue jean shorts. She wasn’t expecting to fall into the water, but she had to be prepared for getting wet anyways, right? At their right, a huge feminine squid digimon floated over water, the rest of her team being two small toucan-like digimon. At their left, Ricky’s Crewmates team, everyone separated from each other for around a ten meters’ distance. This was it, right? The race was about to start! As soon as Delu gave the instructions, of course!

Yup, Amelie's words had the exact repercussions she had expected from both Katherine and Jazz, something which prompted a smug expression coming from the brunette.
"Well, of course." It was a small act, but it wasn't always that she had the opportunity to look so cool. "Did you expect anything less from Shisei?"
In all honesty, Amy had no idea what she had done to deserve so much admiration from Tyrus and company. Had that riddle been so hard? Because... it frankly hadn't been, or at least it hadn't when compared with escaping from a rampaging Tortomon, like Ooi, Jazz and Marie had. But... it wasn't like she could neglect her loyal fans, so she made a small reverence as a final gesture before the gathering began.
It didn't take long before all the teams were presented, each with their own hype surrounding them, even though it was clearly obvious that the most popular teams at the moment were Inra's and Snake's. And that was fair; she even if their team had a famous name, everyone probably thought they were a bunch of nobodies; that was a rather big advantage on their part, for sure.
Regarding Marie's team, though? It didn't take a genius to sense that Liquid was really uneasy about them. Could it be that...? "Knowing one of those humans?" Ooi asked, her brow furrowing. "Are you okay?" Maybe they had been asking the same question a tad too much, but that was more or less reasonable, considering the Candlemon's past experiences with humans. The short teenager hoped to be wrong, however.
Not like they had a lot of time to dwell on it, honestly! The participants were called to compete in short order, and that means that the main body of the team and Ooi had to part ways. At least for now.
"Good luck, everyone!" Their technical support waved at them, while waiting for further instructions regarding what would be their place or where they'd have to remain while the race lasted. "You should be more worried about giving 'em hell than about me relaying information. I got this!"
Beer Flag went their separate ways, and while waiting for everyone else to get into the boat, Amy just focused on taking off her sandals, tying her hair into a rather tight bun and donning the earpieces given to her before boarding the boat, standing by its back side, near the engine. "Seems like we're ready. Ooi, can you hear me?"
"Affirmative. Can everyone else hear me? It seems like the competition will be fierce. But your starting point doesn't seem that bad. You have the squid lady at one side, and the humans at the other."
Speaking of which! Marie, Sekai, and Makoto were seemingly boarding what looked like a gigantic, cybernetic manta ray. And almost as if Ooi referring to them had drawn their attention, the blonde girl gazed at them, waving with an amicable smile.
"Hope y'all have fun in the race! See you at the finish line!"
For now, Amelie only stared; she wasn't the type that focused on chatting before a big competition. Maybe another of the team's members would answer her?
