The Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race [Kath/Amy][Career]
|

-Y-Yes! I think I was just mistaken! Yiayiayiayia! -Liquid scratched the back of his head, laughing dismissively. -We'll see you once we win, Ooi-sis! -The candle waved his goodbyes to their mini-technical support. It was impossible to deny that, at least for him, a bond had been formed between the two.
At first, it was pure excitement. Then, nervousness came into the mix. But right now, the only thing circling through Katherine’s body was pure adrenaline. This was it, the race was finally about to begin.
-We can hear you just fine, Ooi. -Katherine nodded, speaking to the raven-haired girl through the earpiece. It was a good thing that everything seemed to be in order regarding their communications. The curly haired girl's green eyes shifted towards the humans next to them, the blonde girl was saying something. These were the humans Liquid thought he knew for a second huh? The girl decided to not engage in any type of conversation with their rivals. -You don't stand a chance. -Her digimon partner wasn't as self-conscious for that, though. Jazz had no problem with engaging in some trash talk before the race.
Delu finally approached the mic to explain the long-awaited rules of the competence. -Okay, everyone! Listen carefully! I will start by explaining the rules of the race, which are actually pretty simple:
In this race you’ll go through three isles of the Binary Archipelago, and then come back to the starting point. As you can see, right in front of you there’s a red line going across the water. That’s the sailing line right now, but will also be the finish line. We can declare a winner only when the first team’s captain crosses the finish line after coming back from the third island, of course.
We’ll have a huge set of referees scattered through the whole Archipelago. Some at the isles you’ll pass by, some at smalls platforms around the sea and, of course, our main referees who are right here and we’ll see everything through our screens.
Just next to the huge tower where Delu and Sofia where at, a small table with three Jungle Mojyamons could be seen. Through the screens around the stadium, different Jungle Mojyamons could be seen around the track too.
-These referees will pay close attention to everything you do, and will always be at constant communication. So don’t break the rules now, okay? Cause they won’t hesitate in disqualifying you!
Now, what are the actual things you can’t do? Those are pretty short:
First of all: the captain of a team can NOT fly through the air by own will or by standing over a flying teammate or vehicle at any moment, they must be on the water during the whole race. Any other member of the team can fly through the whole course, that’s completely permitted!
Also: you can attack any enemy team’s member with non-lethal techniques, but if you seriously wound or kill any competitor, you’ll be instantly disqualified! There are speakers around the whole course, these will be off most of the time, so you won't be able to hear Sofia and I’s commentaries at any time. Nevertheless, we will issue you a warning in case any of our referees consider you’re doing something not permitted or that may hurt a competitor, so you'll have to stop immediately!
And last but not least: you must fulfill the conditions required through the course, if you get to the goal having missed any condition, you won’t obtain the victory! So skipping these conditions is forbidden!
For those teams who have technical supporters: those must remain here, inside the stadium at all times. If a technical supporter is seen using any technique or ability to help his teammates we will disqualify them! The only thing they can do is look at the wide set of screens we have here showing every team and place around the race and give you information through their headset. They will be able to hear what the members on the sea say, too!
Now, what are these conditions you can't skip, you ask? Well, let me explain the course you’ll be facing in this edition!
You must sail at the sign; after just a while going north you’ll find the first island.
While Delu went on with his explanations, the islands he was talking about could be seen at the screens.
-This is the Route Island! It’s a beautiful island split in two, with just a canal at the middle of the two pieces of land. You must go through that canal, from beginning to end, you can’t go around the island! But it won’t be that easy, you probably will find some obstacles we have prepared for you through the way!
At the screen, the next island was showed, this one looked like a giant pancake, it was flat and round-shaped.
-Then, you’ll get to Joy Island! It’s a circular island, completely covered by a very thick jungle, inside of it 10 flags can be found. –A triangular purple colored flag with the design of a Ranamon’s face printed into it could be seen at the screen. –If your captain doesn’t get to the final goal holding one of these, he won’t be considered a winner! So whether you find yours inside the jungle or steal one from another team after, you must have one of these flags to win! This jungle is a labyrinth, so you’re probably going to have a tough time finding one of these inside. Plus, it’s ground terrain, not a single lake can be found inside of this jungle! so those who are not aquatic digimon will have an advantage on this island!
The image then changed into the middle of the sea, where nothing else but an orange colored sort of fog could be seen. The mist was extremely thick, and seeing through it seemed impossible.
-Then, you’ll face our war fog! It’s very thick, so you won’t be able to see much inside of it, but you have to go through it, you can’t go around it!
Finally, the image changed into an island that looked like a square without filling, there was ground on the borders, but the center of the square was pure water. It's more important feature? It was hanging in mid-air, just like floating around 50 meters above ground.
-This is our final island, the Borderland Island. Here, a team member needs to push the button marked with your team’s name that’s on a pedestal floating over the water at the center; it won’t count if he pushes another team’s button and you can’t destroy the pedestal of the other teams or you’ll get disqualified! And no! Not because it's hanging in the air means your captain can willingly fly there! That won't be allowed, so find a way of getting up there!
With the course of the race completely explained, Delumon went on into the final words.
-Just once you’ve gone through all of this, you can turn back and start coming back here, to cross the finish line and be declared winners! And once you do… -The sand by the middle of the stadium started trembling, a circular-shaped area of the ground below opened, and a huge pedestal started coming out of it, on top of it, a transparent piece of jewelry could be seen. It shone with great intensity and was perfectly shaped. There was no doubt: it was a Zoid Gem. -… You’ll get our marvelous prize for this edition, an ancient and powerful piece of jewelry found on the depths of these seas!
-Zoid… gem. –Jazz muttered, upon seeing the crystal-like object. -There’s no doubt now. –Katherine engaged, firmly staring at the relic. -So, without further due, and now that everything has been said, it’s time to start!
A Mojyamon holding a speaker and standing on a platform at the far edge of the competitors started speaking. –The forty-sixth edition of the Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race is about to begin! –Just in that moment, Katherine realized she was shaking of excitement. Liquid turned at the group, giving them a nod with determination. –Let’s do this. –Katherine simply uttered.
-Ready… set… GO! –The sailing sign, a loud horn, echoed throughout the whole beach.

It was a good thing that Liquid was more or less concentrated in the race at hand. Getting distracted over the possibility of an 'old' acquaintance was something that neither Amelie nor Ooi wanted to deal with. Hopefully, he'd remain like that until the race's end.
On the polar opposite side, there was Jazz who had just decided to trash-talk the competition. The answer she had gotten? Marie blowing a raspberry at her before Delu began explaining the rules. It seemed like the rivalry between rabbits was on point, but that was fine as long as it were a good-natured rivalry.
Before the clash could intensify, the avian digimon began to go through what was permitted and what wasn't in the details.
Some doubts sprang in Amelie's mind, like why they had affixed 'wings' to the boat if it was supposed to remain on water at all times, or how Cobra had gotten so injured he had been rendered unable to participate when they had pretty strict rules regarding what was okay and what wasn't in the race, and trying to seriously injure somebody was firmly in the 'not okay' side of the rules.
Everything else seemed to be fairly simple, and actually almost tailor-made for what Amy's spirits excelled at; not-so-subtle subterfuge, chaos, and misdirection, even if otherwise harmless. Kinda? Mental trauma wasn't as easy to measure at plain sight, and it was seldom lethal, so... things would probably be well!
A confident, almost predatory grin was the only possible expression she could muster once everything had been said and one. "I'll leave you on the technical details on how to get Liquid to the pedestal in Borderland Island; I have a pretty good idea on how to manage everything until we get there, at least from my point of view."
Thinking that things would go exactly according to the plan was as foolish as could get when the competition was so fierce, but Amy was already ready to give her all. That had been the plan all around, right. "I'm counting on you, Ooi; I'm going to need as much precision as I can get. You're gonna be my eyes the whole race."
Ooi's elated smile could almost be heard through the headphones. "We're gonna try that out, huh? You can count on me! They won't even know what hit them."
With the strategy set and their prize in sight, the only thing left was waiting for the inevitable. As a Mojyamon announced that the race was about to start, the brunette turned on the boat's engine, the revving sounds already filling the air. A nod of assent was the only reply Amelie gave before the eventual signal to start the race.
Time to begin.

-And it has finally begun! Every team starts moving forward, heading towards the first island. –Delu announced, delighted by the sight of all those digimon and ships sailing.
-Come on, kid. You’ve got this. –Garmore muttered, his eyes shifting for a second into a fairly big, white serpent-like digimon at one of the seats not too far from him, who also gazed back at the Nanimon.
-So our empress is using a boat to compete? –Tyrus asked, staring at the one screen that currently showed the Beer Flag Team. –It seems like, Tyrus. I suppose that’s only natural since they don’t have any aquatic digimon in their team. –Leo replied, with his classical tone of voice.
Holding to the sides of the boat was compulsory for Katherine if she didn’t want to fall. It was definitely different when the thing was going at full throttle. Around ten seconds had passed since the sailing sign and they had gotten an important advantage from that Calmaramon to their left.
-Come back here! –The giant feminine squid yelled. From her mouth, shots of acid started coming out, jutted straight against the team’s boat.
-Oh my…! Dazzling Stars’ team is trying to take out Beer Flag right away!
Katherine just turned towards the acid, staring right at them. Just right before they stroke, the liquid simply splattered as if it had hit a hot wall. -What the…!? A smirk in her face, Katherine just held the sun trinket of the pendant she was wearing. They were prepared for this. Taking the Beer Flag Team out wouldn’t be that easy. –Yiayiayiayiayia! –Liquid just laughed loudly at the sight, while he grabbed the rudder firmly, standing in the pedal and heading for the first island, which could be seen far in the horizon. -That was amazing! The Beer Flag Team has some sort of invisible defense, Sofia!
The Calmaramon kept falling behind, while Katherine just stared amazed. It was actually happening! The boat had the speed to leave an aquatic digimon behind! Of course, she didn’t expect this to happen with everyone but just the fact that they weren’t the ones falling behind showed how hard Liquid had paid off. To their far left, Katherine could actually see Whamon, who moved incredibly fast for his size.
-That’s the TOXIC team! –Jazz pointed to their northeastern side, where she could spot Snake standing in some sort of giant platform tied to the two Shellmons who pulled from it moving at great speed. They were definitely going faster, but they were probably too far to the east to try to engage in combat with them right now. Katherine moved towards the back of the boat, trying to see what was behind them. –Amy! Who’s going toe to toe with us? –They knew TOXIC was ahead of them, Katherine and Jazz were checking who was behind; so knowing who was at their same level would be a good idea too.
-What the…? –Jazz muttered, her face simply lighted up from an explosion happening behind them, being big enough to even make the boat shake a little. It had come from the southeast, where only a cloud of smoke could be seen.
-Vicious attack coming from the A-Team! I think they had put a team out of action already! But I can’t see which team they attacked. –Delumon squealed, trying to look between the smoke curtain through his screen. -This team is scary, Sofia!
Out of the cloud of smoke, Ebidramon and Anomalocarimon emerged swimming at high speed, not so far from the boat. –Ooi! What just happened back there? –Having no idea of what produced the explosion, Katherine could only assume the worst, seeing those two coming out of it. Was the A-Team trying to demonstrate they were as powerful as they looked? There was still some sea between them and Route Island.

"That's right, Delu~!" His obviously prettier partner, Sofia, said in tandem. "The competition has started rather fiercely this year around! However, it seems that Ricky's Crewmates got an early jumpstart and are holding the lead at the moment!"
Currently, Beer Flag was holding a middling position among all the racers. Their boat was somewhat inconspicuous and had managed to avoid a good deal of the initial strife that characterized the early phase of the race. Why everyone was insisting on being so aggressive early on? This place had enough hazards on its own that wasting energy on the other competitors at the very start seemed like... an awful strategy, in all honesty.
Their rhythm was perfect for this phase, even if... a certain Calmaramon didn't seem to be okay with that. "It seems like that's the case, Delu~!" The beautiful Sofia added. "However, it seems like Beer Flag already had a countermeasure ready! That boat seems to be full of surprises, Delu~. Better to watch out what they're capable of doing down the line! We'll have our eyes on it for sure." After all, viewers loved novelty, and being the only boat participating was as eye-catching as it got!
"That's it! Go bully other competitors, mean squid lady." Ooi said from the headphones, a bit elated at the fact that their foe was falling behind. "That's what happens when you're focused on taking others down and not in actually swimming!"
For the brunette, getting a good grip on the boat and making sure that any unexpected turbulence didn't throw her off it was her biggest priority. Sure, she wouldn't be as screwed up as Katherine if she did, but that didn't mean there wouldn't be contingencies.
At least at the moment, Amy wasn't all that interested in the whereabouts of the other teams; at least as long as they didn't try to mess with their boat, so she just nodded at Jazz pointing out where TOXIC was. Regarding who was more or less going at the same pace than them, however? After giving the place a quick scan, the brunette could recognize a handful of teams.
"Deep Sea seems to be going more or less at our same rhythm." Her voice was calm, almost as if trying to assess how likely was for them to engage into additional enemies. She also saw a group of Seadramons near them. "And I think that's the Bifrost team? Not much else near this place. At least they seem like they want to get to the first island instead of fight against other competitors."
Everything was going more or less okay, at least until a big explosion broke the race's relative tranquility. "Would you look at that, Delu~!" The fashionable Ranamon responded. "That's what I call a water howitzer! I wouldn't be surprised if A Team just removed Water Racers from the competition! Wait a second until our referees give us a situation status and we'll come back with more details about that."
As charming as ever, Sofia made a pause before continuing. "For now, it seems like the first competitors are approaching the first island, Delu~! Wonder if that's a good idea? Being the first to experience what's in store for them could backfire really badly! What do you think?"
Back on with Beer Flag. Ooi took a couple of seconds to answer, almost as if frozen by what happened back then. "That Ebidramon released a jet of pressurized water. Or that's what it looked like it. Then... it just exploded when it made contact with one of the members of the other team. That was unreal. And... a bit scary, in all honesty."
She cleared her throat, her tone becoming even again. "We're nearing the first island. Get ready for the obstacles; I'm sure it won't be a joking matter, especially since everyone will be forced to go through a relatively narrow space. Beware of any possible attack."
Soon enough, it'd be Amelie's moment to get to work.

While Delu and Sofia spoke, the cameras could only catch the upper part of the Submarimon Ricky’s Crewmates were riding. There was no doubt... that thing was fast. –It’s sure hard to know where they are sometimes Sofia, because Submarimon can go underwater!
The stadium let go a roar, while they watched the shield come up upon Calmaramon’s technique. –Our empress’ boat is amazing! Dazzling Stars has been a recurring team in this race for years and multiple prowesses exist in their record, to be prepared to hold such attack means they’ve been working hard. –Caesar stared at the screen whose camera was fixed in the Beer Flag’s boat. There was no doubt Liquid’s team had given a great first impression to the crowd, even though that probably had to be the lesser of their concerns at the moment.
-I would say that's a good thing. –Katherine nodded at Amelie’s statement regarding the position of the other teams at the moment. –I really think it’s not the time to engage in any fight unless it’s absolutely necessary. –And that was probably the best way to go, right? Even if taking a team out of the competition early could be a good thing, right now they didn’t have enough information regarding their rivals to know which they could beat in close combat, or even who could represent a greater hazard later on during the relay.
Throw everything said to the garbage for what A Team concerned, though. They were coming out of the explosion looking strong, not even a scratch on them. Katherine’s green eyes followed Anomalocarimon and Ebidramon’s route, as they kept swimming at high velocity right behind them, and getting closer by the second. Were they aiming at them now?
-That was amazing no doubt! The viciousness of such attack has stunned the whole stadium. –And Delu was as right as ever; the whole dome had remained silent for a second, while they just stared at the display of power the A team had shown through the screens. –Who are… these guys? –Blossomon muttered, staring at the action. Garmore, not too far from the plant, wondered exactly the same.
-It just… exploded? –The fact of having these monsters right behind them while receiving this information from Ooi didn’t make things any better, especially since they couldn’t really know what made the whole thing erupt.
-We’re almost at the Route Island, sisters! –Liquid stated, leaning his body behind for the girls to hear him through the splashing water. Jazz immediately shook her head after witnessing the recent events, trying to be of some help, and took a look at the rest of the competitors. What immediately raised her attention was the speed that the giant whale had acquired, already moving towards the center to come through the narrow canal of the island. –I can’t see any kind of enemies, yet. –The surface of the two high grounds on each side of the water pathway was covered by bushes and trees, so it was hard to see if there was any sort of trap in there.
-Would you look at that Sofia! The Blink Team is attempting to be the first team to go through the canal of Route Island! –Delu yelled excited, while he gazed at the giant whale closing in the island. –But wait! What is this? –Like some sort of bullet, something went past the Blink Team, as if it had been jutted from behind. –It’s… Inra! –The stadium roared just at the mentioning of the name, as the biggest screen showed the Megaseadramon, without his frog digimon partners by his side.
-What an amazing display of speed! And just like that, Inra manages to enter first to the canal of Route Island! –The bird’s eyes then widened, as they caught a glance of another team passing by the giant creature and entering the canal too. –TOXIC Team has accelerated at full throttle and are now inside the canal too, Sofia!
-Why are they…? –Katherine muttered, staring at what was happening right in front of them, as Whamon slowly started to block the water pathway. She finally realized what was going, by seeing this. –That Whamon is barely going to fit through the canal! Whoever goes after will be trapped behind with the rest of the teams! -That had to be it. That was the reason why Inra and Snake were so interested in coming in first, regardless the obstacles they could find in there. It was only logical, whatever they could encounter would be easier to handle with just some few of them than with ten other teams and a giant whale blocking the way.
-Kath… -Jazz muttered, quickly moving her head to her left and right. Ebidramon and Anomalocarimon had reached their boat and had now matched their speed. –Are they going to… attack? –Liquid eyes widened, as he noticed the two monsters, one on each side of the boat.
-I don’t think we can afford our shield to be overloaded this soon into the race. –A worried expression had invaded Katherine’s countenance. –Amy! Should we use some of our nitro or…?

As beautiful as she was, Sofia agreed at Delu's words. "True enough, Delu~! But when you've been in the business for enough time and are an aquatic digimon yourself, you can somewhat tell their position judging by the nearby ripples on the ocean! Ain't that a neat trick?"
A bird would have a hard time understanding something like that, for sure. But that's why she was here, after all! And not the focus of the conversation, anyway. "Thus far, it seems like Beer Flag is definitely honoring Garmore's name, punishing that early attack accordingly! Will Dazzling Stars be able to recover from that failed attempt early enough to have a shot at winning? I'm not sure, Delu~!"
Amelie nodded at Katherine's words. For now, she wasn't interested in picking any fights, and hopefully, the racers near her thought about the same. None were winning, so focusing on taking out second-placers seemed as pointless as it came; or... it was, for any non-A Team members. The viciousness of their attack had no doubt stunned the whole stadium.
As the smoke from the explosion cleared, an unconscious Coelamon could be seen floating near the impact side; obviously unconscious, he was being tended by one of the Mojyamon. "Oh, oh!" Somehow, the cute Sofia seemed to be excited about this. "We finally got a situation update, Delu~. It seems like Water Racers is the first team to officially be eliminated from the race!"
Funnily enough, the crowd cheered at the announcement. "And now, it seems like A Team has picked its next target! Will they be able to accomplish what Dazzling Stars couldn't and eliminate Beer Flag? Let's find out!"
The course towards Route Island seems to be rather clear, Liquid already telling them they weren't very far, even though... Amelie herself had a way bigger concern than that. An Ebidramon-and-Anomalicarimon shaped concern.
"I don't like how this is looking. We don't have that much time before that whale blocks the whole canal!" Even if Ooi had been quite helpful thus far, that comment undoubtedly hadn't contributed much. "It'll take us a lot of time to recover if we let that pass."
The beautiful Sofia, on the other side, seemed elated at the development. "It seems to be like that, Delu~! As soon as Blink Team enters the canal, everyone behind them will be at a disadvantage, so this looks like a very important point in the race. Waru and TOXIC have already seized the moment, but... will anyone else come up ahead? Or will they be forced to keep with Whamon's pace? It just keeps getting more and more exciting, Delu~!"
This wasn't time to hesitate on what to do, the brunette reckoned; it was time to act. "Use the nitro as soon as I dive. I'll catch with you later; you better get to the canal before that whale." Not a split second afterward, the teenager was diving into the water right next to the Anomalocarimon, her evolution triggering instants before her body touched the water.
Confident on that being enough to divert Ebidramon from the boat, and given that the others behaved accordingly and had taken the opportunity to slip away ahead of the Whamon, Heraldmon proceeded to tangle itself against the crustacean. Right afterward, its body began to release a faded pink-colored miasma. It wasn't a safe attack by any means, and it could backfire badly if the boat didn't get to the canal quickly enough, but... the payoff was well worth the risk.
Chaos erupting wouldn't be a nice sight, but then again... Heraldmon had no eyes to see that.

Blatantly staring at Sofia, Delu blinked. “That’s amazing, Sofia! And it's true! We can actually see how Ricky's crewmates had gone by Blink Team and are now inside the canal too! The skillset of our announcer never ceases to surprise us, friends!” He said, praising the Ranamon with a smile, while part of the crowd laughed. It was undeniable the female announcer had a pretty wide fan base across the fans of the race. “Well, one thing’s for sure: Dazzling Stars is far behind, as they had barely gone by the Water Racers team. Which of course is being helped by our team to get out of the course safely, now that they are out.” The Calmaramon’s failed attempt had definitely cost her some precious time, as they were now last place. “I definitely don’t think they’ll be able to make it before the Whamon in the Blink Team closes that narrow canal!”
For both the crowd and the announcers, the sight of a digimon flying through the skies came as amazing. “Oh my…! What’s that Sofia!?” as the camera zoomed in the creature being jutted across the whole layout, the stadium could see it was a frog-like digimon with some sort of… metal disk above his head? “It’s Don the Gawappamon! And look! And he is not alone!" Just behind the Digimon, two smaller frog soldiers were flying across the air too. "A couple of Kamemons are following him! All of those are members of the Spinning Records team!" "Are those guys... Flying?" Caesar asked, staring from the crowd, shocked at such display. "That's preposterous!" Leo rushed to exclaim. "They are going to get disqualified!" "Sofia we're checking with our referees from the tables below and they say that Spinning Records is not getting disqualified! That must mean none of those guys is the captain!"
The frogs made their landing over Whamon, where they had plenty of space, and then looked forward, to see what was coming once they entered the canal. A stream of water started coming out of the whale’s hole up to his top side like it was a wild geyser. With the stream of water, two Mambomon went out the whale too. “Oh, oh! The rest of the Blink Team is here to protect their territory! And a brawl is about to break loose!”
Said and done by the announcer, the digimon started to go into a free for all, at the top of Whamon. “Meanwhile, some of the members of our Mojyamon team are already throwing bombs from the bushes to TOXIC and Waru team, who are starting to go through the canal!” Just by the mentioning of these two tied to seeing them on the screens, the stadium roared again. “This is barely beginning, Sofia! I’m sure other dangerous obstacles await for these two great teams throughout the canal!” “Amy…” Katherine just muttered as she heard her friend come up with a plan. She trusted her decision-making abilities, of course. She just didn’t like the idea of them going on without her so early. Could she do this without her? Well, she didn’t have much of a choice, since the blue-eyed had already leaped into the water. “Shisei… fight!” Jazz yelled, as a glow of light covered the girl’s body while she turned into the same monstrous creature she had become yesterday. “OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT!” The stadium roared like crazy at the sight of Amelie turning into a digimon. “The human has turned into a digimon, Sofia! This is what they call Spirit Wielders, am I right!?” Not only Delu, but the whole crowd was loving what they were seeing. Shaking his head to wave her fears off, Katherine's green eyes shifted towards their captain. “Liquid! Get us out of here!”, With a smile, Liquid simply raised his hand and clutched the red button on his board. “Understood Kath-sis!”“But what the…!? Sofia would you look at that!” Bouncing at the spot, Delu pointed towards the screen with one of his wings, as hyped up as ever. “ The Beer Flag Team’s boat is moving incredibly fast! What in the world did they activate!?” “What’s… that?” Garmore just stared at the screen, completely stunned at the velocity the boat had reached. “These kids…” He let go an incredulous smirk, not taking his eyes off the screen even for a second. Meanwhile, Jazz and Katherine held for dear life into the boat sides, the curly haired considering they probably should have tried this before, while the bunny just laughed like crazy. The speed the boat was moving with was beyond all of Katherine’s expectations; in just around two seconds, Liquid had to move the rudder as fast as he could, to avoid them hitting against Whamon, and go for the small gap the cetacean had left between his body and the entrance of the canal. After not more than five seconds since the miasma was released, Anomalocarimon started roaring like crazy, jumping over Heraldmon and right into Ebidramon who immediately defended himself. The two gigantic monsters had started to brawl. Calmaramon entered the mist, while aiming for the Route Island, but immediately acquiring an (even more) aggressive attitude, and launching against Heraldmon with her giant tentacles, trying to crush her. “What is this, Sofia? Everyone going through that pink colored substance is starting to go full crazy! Could it be that the effect of that substance Amelie released?”
Over the top of Whamon, a mouse-like digimon with a bow and arrows appeared out of thin air. By shooting five arrows in a swift movement she took down the Gawappamon, the two Kamemon, and the Mambomon, making them fall into the water. “Look! On the top of Whamon! It’s Lisa! Lisa the Coordemon!” Delu declared. “She’s a member of Seduction Team!” The female-like digimon simply showed a smile, to then wink at the camera and stick her tongue out in a sassy manner. “This is their second time competing, Sofia. After an amazing display of skills on the last edition, they’re aiming to win this time, and have even built a pretty wide fan-base along our spectators.” In a certain spot throughout the crowd, a group of different digimon could be seen reunited, holding signs where ‘Seduction Team’ could be read and always cheering when its members appeared. “Well, we now have the full TOXIC and Ricky’s crewmates Team and members of Waru, Blink, Seduction and Beer Flag already inside the canal, in front of the Whamon!” The bird then turned to her co-host. “Now the gigantic digimon has closed the canal and the other teams wouldn’t be able to go through it until he finishes his course! Is there any other team in front of Whamon right now that we might have missed, Sofia?”
As soon as they entered the canal, the speed the boat was going with reduced, making them go back to their regular velocity. “We made it!” Katherine squealed, hugging Jazz while they celebrated. Right in front, they could see Inra, who was traveling through the canal dodging the bombs thrown at him by the Mojyamon with not much trouble. “Look, it’s the marine old man!” Liquid pointed out with a smile, only for his face to change abruptly, as they saw the serpent being hit by some sort of red beam that went through him, making him fall into the water. Liquid, Jazz and Katherine’s eyes widened at the sight, as they saw the brutal attack unleashing. When they followed the direction the shot had come from, their gaze only found one digimon, standing at the higher ground to their right, some unconscious Mojyamon laying on the ground around him. The horror invaded Katherine’s countenance… it was that Octopus, from the A-Team.

Sofia the pretty nodded sagely. "Indeed, Delu~! The presence of the Whamon has managed to throw an element seldom seen in the race!" And, undoubtedly, that had been pretty exciting. "As you can see, most of the participants are on the slender, yet agile side of the spectrum, and I can tell that some of them aren't sure on how to tell with a competitor of Whamon's size! Getting to see how they deal with that is going to be really interesting, Delu~!"
Who knows, if it had a good reception, maybe they'd get their own Whamon for next race! "What do you think, Delu~? Will the competitors stuck behind the Whamon suffer a crushing disadvantage that'll chase them for the whole race, or will they be able to make up on that? Stay tuned to find out!"
Maybe things weren't as black and white as the adorable Sofia had initially presented them; just as Whamon was Blink Team's gimmick, a good deal of the teams seemed to have their own way to bypass that living blockade. Like that flying Gwappamon! "Indeed, Delu~! Spinning Records is a team that's well-known for its ability to try unusual strategies! As you can see right now, theirs revolve around the fact that the captain's identity is a secret!"
It was putting quite the show, that was for sure. Especially since the whale's top had become a makeshift arena. The beautiful Sofia gasped. "Would you look at that, Delu~! Whoever wins the fight atop Whamon is definitely be at an advantage, at least regarding his position! I'm not sure on how important is to secure it, since Blink Team isn't holding the first place at the moment, but it's definitely going to be a treat to watch!"
If they wanted to fight, they wanted to fight; Not much that could be done about it! Speaking of the ones currently taking the lead, however! "Waru and TOXIC seem to be making a good show at avoiding the bombs our Mojyamon team is throwing at them! Do you think they'll emerge unscathed, Delu~? Or maybe that they'll get slowed down? The obstacles will only get harder and harder as the journey through Route Island continues. That's the only certainty!"
At some point behind the Whamon, another brawl had begun to break out, this time between an Anomalocarimon, an Ebidramon, a Calmaramon, and Heraldmon.
"That's right, Delu~! There are some very special humans in this world who can become digimons themselves, and..." For a second, the fashionable Sofia shuffled some papers, obviously searching for something. "Amelie! That's her name, in case any potential fans were wondering! She seems to be a fairly proficient individual, given how that digimon is able to tangle with the other three! Who will come on top? Place your bets, people!"
Best part? That wasn't even the only interesting event currently underway. The boat's mad dash was just as, if not more impressive than that, especially considering they had gotten into the canal just in the nick of time, causing the crowd to go even wilder. Even the enchanting Sofia seemed to be vibrating on her chair as she saw those events unfolding! "It's among the fastest things I've ever seen, Delu~! That boat could probably race a sovereign if the opportunity ever arose!"
That burst of speed wouldn't be long-lived, though; after that couple of seconds passed, the boat's march slowed down considerably. "Good job! Even though it's a bit of a pity we had to use a bit of the nitro this early for that stunt. We should have around eight seconds left; make them count." Ooi had to jinx it, hadn't she? She could see the being their boat was approaching all too well, and was quick to warn the team. "Be careful! A Team's Octomon has gotten in a really weird position! and it seems he's trying to eliminate as many participants as possible!" Suddenly, an audible gasp was heard from Ooi's end. "And...! Amy's falling on top of you in twenty seconds or so! Maintain your current course!" Considering how the melee between aquatic and not-so aquatic monstrosities was being carried out, one could say that... it was definitely a close one, even if, initially, Heraldmon had been able to maintain itself out from the thick of it. The charming Sofia was focused on what was happening. "That seems to be the case, Delu~! It seems like it's some kind of pysche-altering move, and the first one we've seen thus far in the race! This Amelie girl is full of surprises, ain't she? She'll definitely be one of the human slash digimons we'll be watching in this race... at least if she doesn't get knocked out right now!"
Ooi, I need the boat's exact location and speed. And tell everyone to maintain course. I'm getting the hell out of this place.
Got it!
While that gambit was prepared, the focus had shifted again, this time to Lisa, the Coordemon. The lovely Sofia was amazed at the display, to say the least. "I totally agree, Delu~! Lisa's first performance was solid all-around, but this time she definitely looks like she has improved a fair bit! It wouldn't be surprising if she took the whole thing this edition!" And after making a small pause, she nodded. "Those all seem to be the only teams that got past the blockade, Delu~. Wonder if the other teams will have an opportunity to recover? Or maybe the ones who got past Whamon will get overconfident and try to eliminate their direct competition, allowing for the others to catch up? One thing's for sure, Delu~! This race's definitely among the most interesting we had thus far, and we're not even past the first of our three islands!"
Before Calmaramon could place her filthy tentacles over it, Heraldmon's visage was already fraying and unraveling, almost as if she were to stop existing altogether. Moments before her attack hit, the aberration had completely disappeared, its destination unknown.
The crowd didn't know if to be concerned or if to go crazy at the display. Even the delightful Sofia didn't know how to act! "What happened, Delu~? Amelie was there for a second, and the next she just... wasn't! Was that some kind of stealth ability, or was it something else? I'm unsure, and wonder when or how she will reappear!"
Her question wouldn't have to wait very much before getting answered. Just as Ooi had predicted, Heraldmon's massive bulk would reappear almost directly on top of Beer Flag Team's boat. It seemed like the hulk would fall directly on top of it and crush the whole thing under its weight, but almost a second before the two made contact, the monster's form was replaced by the brunette we all know and love, a soft plopping sound being the only consequence of her descent.
Understandably, the crowd went wild. "Look at that, Delu~! It seems like Amelie used some kind of teleportation ability, and in an amazing show of finesse, managed to devolve just before hitting the boat! That's among the most exciting things I've seen in my time as a commentator, Delu~! Just when you thought you've seen everything from her, she manages to surprise you yet again!"
Regarding the girl in question? She was laying flat on her back, almost immobile, yet desperately gasping for air. How much she had exerted herself was rather obvious. "H-How..." She said in between ragged breaths. "H-How are we doing? Is everyone safe?"
It'd take some time for her to recover. And that was, to say the least. For now, she wasn't aware of her surroundings, and even less so of the potential peril they may face right now.

“No kidding, Sofia! Whamon has indeed brought a new element into the table; which undoubtedly caught all of our competitors by surprise.” With his eyes trying to multiply themselves to catch a glance of everything going on, Delu continued. “I don’t think it’s going to be that catastrophic for them, but that depends on what they encounter on this pathway though Route Island! Them being unable to move forward due to the Whamon being right in front of them probably is going to give them a hard trouble dodging the obstacles they will find in the canal!”
His arms crossed, Garmore kept analyzing the show’s development from his seat. “That Lisa… That’s a pretty good place to be standing on right now. On one side, she is safe from most techniques, since everything thrown at her is probably going to end up hitting that Whamon who is not even a part of her team. Plus, from that height, she can see pretty much everything happening behind and in front of her, which is very good in this situation.” He then turned towards another screen, showing how Snake and his TOXIC team kept going at full throttle in front of the rest of the squads, dodging everything thrown at them. "So there are mines in the water..." Immediately, his eyes shifted towards that white serpent who was also staring at the screen, very focused. “You have worked hard training this kid to fulfill your legacy, right, Cobra?” The Nanimon muttered, Cobra completely unable to hear them due to the distance between the two.
“What? That guy is Cobra!? The winner of the last edition of the race!?” Caesar, who had gotten fairly close to the disguised Garmore while he and his Yamnamon fellows looked for a better seat was, in fact, able to hear his words, as Garmore stared at the Sandiramon. “How were you able to notice that, old lady?” He asked.
“Also, I just heard you give a very proficient analysis of the competition, madam. Who are you exactly?” Leo added, buzzing next to Caesar and Tyrus. Apparently, Garmore had been thinking out loud during all of this time. “O-Oh!” He was startled at first. “I am just some old lady who happens to be a passionate fan of the All Out Race!” Garmore then giggled, doing his very poor impersonation of an old woman. The three Yamnamon just stared at the shipwright, not convinced at all by this poor mimicry.
"And just like that, Snake and his Toxic Team are out of the Route Island! They are now on their way to Joy Island! This is a pretty good lead they have!
“So Amelie is her name, isn’t it!? This girl is amazing!” The stadium didn’t seem to disagree with Delu, not even one bit. They all roared as the battle some several meters behind Whamon took place. “But what kind of digimon is that!? I have never seen anything like it, Sofia!”
“Amelie-mon, Amelie-mon, Amelie-mon!” A section of the crowd had started chanting, visibly excited for the abomination’s appearance. “Well, it seems like our crowd has picked up a name for her already!” The bird chuckled right after.
The announcing team’s attention seemed to be going everywhere, as there were plenty of things happening at once; making it hard for them to narrate events in each scenario. “I think we can’t count those teams out just yet, Sofia! I am sure they all have some tricks under their sleeve prepared to shine at any moment!” While they spoke, Lisa was throwing arrows to the Mojyamons at her left, as Whamon kept going through the canal. To the sides of the cetacean, the Mambomons kept fighting Don and the rest of the members of the Spinning Records team. “Of course, no rule states you can’t attack the Mojyamon throwing bombs at you, Sofia! And Lisa is taking advantage of this to get rid of some obstacles!” Delu’s gaze then shifted towards Octomon, who had taken out some more furry guys by himself. “Look at that! It’s Octomon from the A-Team! How did he get the-!?” Before the bird could finish his sentence, it happened. The creature launched a beam from his gun straight towards Inra, making him fall into the water. “He shot Inra! That Octomon has shot Sturdy Inra and he has fallen into the water! Could this be the end of Waru team for this race!?”
One of the loudest booing sprees Garmore had ever heard in all of his years participating covered the whole stadium. “That stupid Inra…” He scoffed staring at the screen. “You are not going to be taken down by something like that, are you?” His tone then changed into a worried one.
Liquid stared at the whole development dumbfounded, his eyes wide open. “He… took Inra out?” Just how powerful was this guy? Katherine just stared at him, paralyzed. It had definitely been a while since she had felt like this. Completely astonished, bewildered at the events happening right in front of her. Octomon had seen them, his eyes were fixed on the boat. He didn’t move, though. He simply stared at the group from the higher ground.
Ooi’s words woke the whole team up, throwing them back into reality. The first sentence slipped from the group's attention, as they were caught in the whole scenario developing in front of them. What came next was impossible to be ignored. "She's going to what!?" Jazz asked, just to confirm she had listened just fine. The boat kept moving at a constant pace, Octomon still not making a move, just staring at Beer Flag.
Katherine started analyzing the layout of the whole scenario. The Mojyamons throwing bombs from the right side at this point had been taken out by Octomon while the ones at the left side were also laying on the ground because of Lisa's attack. Nevertheless, the water was still being propelled at certain areas, like something was exploding below, even though no bombs were being thrown. Was this pathway so calmed? Once you took the Mojyamon out, it was so easy to get to the other side? The teenager shook her head from such a naïve idea. That couldn't be it, right? There had to be something else. If this island was announced as a true obstacle, something else had to be happening.
Even if she was sure it was dangerous to go forward without knowing what was coming, they couldn't stop! Whamon was right behind them, threatening to crush them if they moved at a slow pace. They were moving through unknown seas, Inra had been taken out and TOXIC team was too far away to detect what kind of dangers they were facing.
“Kath! I think he’s ready to go again! Should I…?” Jazz was right. The Octomon was aiming at them, charging another beam. They had to move, fast. It was very unlikely their shield could withstand something that took Inra in a single shot. The truth was that they would have to use their nitro again, but it was really safe to go into the water without knowing what dangers awaited?
Her eyes going everywhere as she thought, Katherine’s focus finally went back into the water being propelled upwards. Then, like a flashback, the memory of that Submarimon presented before the race began came to her head. It was a wild guess, but she had no choice but to assume what was going on and aim for the best outcome.
“Liquid! There are mines below the water!” And the truth will set you free… “Mines!?” The Candlemon asked confused. “I need you to heat the environment!” It was time to use that thing Amelie had found. “Heat…?” Liquid eyes widened at her team partner's odd request. “You’re a fire digimon, aren’t you?” Katherine asked, desperation in her tone of voice. Could she really do this? she started wondering. Could she really save the team?
"Heat wave!" Liquid yelled, focusing on heating the surroundings. “Kath!!!” Jazz pointed up, Amelie’s evolved form was plumbing into the boat from above.
“What!?" Delu asked, sort of astonished to his partner statement. "… That’s right, Sofia! Ameliemon is, in fact, falling from the sky into the Beer Flag Team’s boat!” A grade of disbelief could be felt in the bird's voice, his attention going from Inra back to the team and Octomon. “And apparently Octomon is ready to take out Beer Flag Team too!” The roaring of the stadium was massive, as they saw Amelie go back into her human form and land on the boat. “Amelie seems to not be in a state where she can protect them from this attack. I think it’s time for the Beer Flag Team to show another weapon in their arsenal. If they don't, A-Team is going to take them out in this second attempt and possibly claim a third victim in this race!"
“Shisei!” Jazz yelled upon seeing the blue-eyed teenager was (even though breathless) seemingly fine. “We are okay… for now.” The bunny added as she turned towards the octopus, getting ready to shot the boat.
Katherine, on her side, was still focused on the road ahead. Seeing Amelie there, doing so much to help them succeed had given her strength to go ahead with this plan. This was it. It was her time to be proven useful to this team, to really help the crew. She could feel the temperature rising. The environment was getting hotter around them. “Kath! Should I evolve?” Jazz suggested once again, Katherine shaking her head right after. “If it’s true there are mines up ahead, we should be about to find one in any minute.”
“I know." The tamer replied, firmly. "Just… trust me.” Just as the curly haired finished this sentence, the boat started getting covered in a metallic substance. It was working. “Oh! I get it now! Yiayiayiayiayia!” Liquid laughed effusively. “You do?” The girl showed a smirk to the candle. “Then, let’s do it!”
Liquid pushed the nitro button once again, sending them jutted forward... for only about a split of second before the inevitable happened: An explosion coming from below sent the boat into the sky.

The roar of the crowd as soon as TOXIC got out of the first island was almost deafening; if anything, their lead was widening more and more by each passing second, much to the rest of the participant's dismay.
"That seems like a pretty good strategy, Delu~!" The charming Sofia finally interjected. "By maintaining a steady lead, TOXIC is able to avoid most of the infighting between the other teams, and use that advantage to further increase the gap! It's true that being the first ones also exposes them to any potential new hazards the course might have, but the degree of preparation the team has shown pretty much astonishing! I wouldn't be surprised if they could deal with pretty much everything thrown their way."
Regarding the second hottest topic of this edition? Well, let's say that everyone seemed to have warmed up really quickly to the only spirit user currently participating. "Honestly, I've never seen a digimon like that, Delu~! For all we know, it may be a new species, or maybe something that went extinct long ago! Can't say I disagree with the nickname our expectators have picked up, however; it's as catchy as it gets!"
Undoubtedly, this spectacle was as magnificent as it could be. Every second was filled with tension and excitement, and even if TOXIC held an obvious lead, that could change at any moment. However, for now... any team that wasn't they seemed to be rather focused on each other, rather than on advancing. "I wonder, Delu~!" The charming Sofia seemed thoughtful for a second. "What is Lisa hoping to accomplish? From her vantage point, isn't she helping her opponents by shooting the Mojyamons down? Maybe she has something in store!"
Overall, it was quite puzzling why those at an advantage they were evening the difficulty for every participant of the race instead of pushing it further. It would be interesting to see what those teams would come up with... like, shotting none more and none less that one of the previous champions! "That attack was very strong, Delu~!" For a second, the beautiful Sofia indulged in a gasp. "Do you think that Inra will prove why he got the nickname sturdy after that hit, or that's the end of the race for him? I personally wouldn't count him out of this one, but who knows!"
A fan favorite being brought down so unceremoniously had the expected reaction from the crowd; even the commentator's voice was rather hard to be heard over the angry crowd at Inra's fall. Without a doubt, the most infamous moment in the race thus far!
However, the group had more pressing matters to attend, like Amelie's eventual appearance. "Fall. On top of you all, Jazz." Ooi confirmed, her tone as deadpan as it could be. "So, unless you want for her to fall in the middle of the ocean, you should try to maintain your current course and speed. It'll take her a bit to catch up if she misses."
To say that Beer Flag was traversing through a dangerous crossroads. On one side, Amy's impending fall limited to a great extent the tricks the boat could do, and on the other, Liquid was already heating the environment slowly but steadily; the situation almost seemed like a kettle ready to whistle.
Just like the crowd at Amy's act. Even if the teenager was pretty much winded at the moment, everything had gone as smoothly as it could, at least in regards to that! "I will say only one thing, Delu~! After the number that Octomon did on Inra, I wouldn't want to be hit by his laser, and without Amelie to act on the behalf, that probably means we'll get to see a new trick Beer Flag has under its sleeve or... witness an elimination! We'll find out soon!"
Amelie did her best impression of a nod at Jazz's words, most of her focus and awareness currently suppressed as she tried to mend her burning lungs. At least at first! It wasn't long before the boat itself jumped high into the air, surprised the brunette quietly resting on it, just like everyone else in the audience.
"Would you look at that, Delu~!" The cute Sofia was as surprised as everyone else in the audience. "It seems like Beer Flag got a sudden burst of speed again before hitting one of the canal's mines! They're pretty much flying through the air at an amazing speed right now! At that pace, they'll get out of the canal in no time!"
Least to say, the initial impulse coupled with the reduced friction the air provided greatly shortened the gap that separated Beer Flag from the teams that were currently leading. "Whether they're ahead Ricky's Crewmates or not remained to be seen! I can tell they're toe-to-toe at the very least, Delu~, and that they're about to exit!" Quite the sight, to say the least! How Beer flag had managed to jump a couple of positions to with that ingenious use of the landscape managed to displace a portion of the digimons who were previously cheering for Inra to their team.
Eventually, Amy would recover from her small stunt and stand up in order to observe the team's current situation. "Seems we're doing quite well." She smiled sincerely, even though it was too soon to celebrate. After making a pause, she stared into the distance. "We're probably gonna arrive to Joy Island soon. Do you have any plans to tackle it? I guess I'm going in there too? Or should I stay to guard the boat? What do you think?"

The cameras went right to the Mojyamons at the referee’s table, who immediately shook their “head” and gave a thumbs up, announcing that what Beer Flag was doing, was completely allowed. “I’ve been an announcer for this race for decades, Sofia. But this has to fall in the top five of most amazing things I have seen! Ladies and gentlemen, judging from these first minutes, we might be in one of the most amazing All Out Race in history!” The excitement in Delu’s voice was not different from the heat that could be felt across the crowd. “Our referees state that Beer Flag Team’s flying cannot be considered by own will since they were sent into the sky by a mine. So that move is completely valid!"While the team's boat flew through the air and the crowd went wild, Lisa kept shooting any Mojyamon that came her way, still standing atop the Whamon of Blink Team. “I think it is not a bad strategy, Sofia.” Delu rushed to make a brief analysis of the situation. “Right now, everyone else is behind that Whamon, so they are not going to surpass her in any way, she’s clearing the road for herself.”
Octomon just stared at Beer Flag, as they disappeared into the sky. Then, he turned towards the Coordemon. “I think we’ve got an Octopus missing a target, Sofia!” Pointing with a wing, Delu’s gaze shifted towards Lisa. “Oh, look! He’s trying to take out Lisa. I think she won't be able to take advantage of what she did to those Mojyamons.” Not even the sentence was finished when all of the Seduction Team’s fans were already booing. In a second, Lisa clapped and placed both hands on the whale just to poof out of thin air. “And just as she came, Lisa is completely gone!"Going back and forward, the announcers’ attention had to go back a bit, in terms of placement, to the area where “Ameliemon”’s mist was driving everyone crazy. “Where did Lisa go, you ask? Well, apparently to save a friend in distress!” Amidst the mass of digimon fighting between them, a blonde mermaid digimon seemed to be having a bout with Ebidramon, and loosing terribly. “That is Ruka, the Mermaimon. She is one of the members of Seduction Team, and she seems to have been caught in Ameliemon’s war miasma. Sofia, that is some really powerful technique!” Taking a better look at the situation, Delu was able to reach a conclusion. “I think the effects of this technique are finally waving off, as the digimon had started to make their way to Route Island. I think Ebidramon is consciously trying to take Mermaimon out, while Anomalocarimon is gone already!”
Suddenly, an electrical shock impacted Ebidramon, making him step back from the battle. Flying above the scene, a mighty blue and yellow colored bird could be seen. “And there she is! Lisa is atop of their other team member, Thunderbirdmon, who has landed a perfect hit on that Ebidramon. Now Ruka goes back into the water, going at full speed towards the Route Island.” With the fog gone, every team made their way towards Route Island. The roar from the crowd made the duo up the cabin notice something was going on, making their attention go back to Route Island. “B-But… What are my eyes seeing!?” Octomon was aiming at Whamon now, while he moved through the higher ground, matching the speed of the whale. Which immediately caught everyone's attention were several pieces of metal fluttering around the monster's gun. “What is…” It took Delu a second to realize what these were, but a closer shot from the camera made him realize. “Those are mines!” The bird yelled, completely shocked. The roar of the crowd turned into silence. “I think Octomon… is doing some sort of technique to attract metal towards him and he has managed to gather the mines of the canal around his gun!” Delu’s eyes remained wide open while he stared at the dreadful scene. Before anything else could be said, Octomon jumped and released the beam mid-air, along with all of the mines. He was not aiming directly at Whamon, but at the extremely small gap between the whale and the piece of ground the octopus was standing on. The result? The explosion destroyed the right piece of ground (where Octomon was originally standing) completely. More than that, the blast managed to work as a crowbar to lift Whamon by its right side, making it flip slowly, and fall on the piece of ground to its left, destroying it completely. When the smoke cleared, the Route Island had been completely crushed, and Whamon rested unconscious over the sea. Pieces of ground scattered everywhere, while all the competitors who were originally behind the whale just tried to dodge them, as they went through what formerly was the canal, and now was just open sea, filled with debris of the explosion. Delu just stared at the scene, completely dumbfounded. For the first time in over two hundred years of being an announcer for this race, the bird was lost for words. The crowd was no different. In the end, the Route Island had been destroyed, and the competitors just went through the disaster that it had left behind. Maybe Sofia could give any kind of insight about how were the rest of the teams doing. Some minutes before, the Beer Flag Team had landed safely on the last stretch of the canal, managing to get out of the island right after. Liquid was still laughing loudly. He was the only one who could find something so life threatening as go flying through the sky as amusing. “That was completely amazing, Kath!” He stated, managing to get some composure while he kept handling the rudder. Regarding the curly-haired? She was just sitting at the middle of the boat, a blank stare into the horizon, trying to process everything she had done. Jazz just tilted her head, looking at her tamer. Amelie’s beautiful voice brought the green-eyed back into her senses. “Y-Yes! That’s right. Joy Island.” The girl stood up. She couldn’t see Ricky’s crewmates anywhere near, and Toxic was still in front of them, just not as far as before. “I think…” A deafening noise made her ears buzz. Her face even lightened up slightly as the result of the huge explosion. Both her and Jazz turned behind, to see the island they had gone through almost completely destroyed. “Ooi…” The teenager managed, stunned. “… what was... that?”
Not long after, they would see a horde of competitors coming their way, behind the boat. Had that explosion fired up everyone else competing? It was likely. Now the rest of the participants were behind them, going their way. No time to lose. Katherine shook her head and turned back to Amelie. “We barely made it out of there without you, Shisei.” Jazz spoke before Katherine could utter any word. “Kath and I are going into Joy island to get one of those flags. You should stay with Liquid and protect the boat, okay?”

It was true that everything currently happening in the race was otherworldly at this point; how everything had turned out was very exciting! Or at least, it was for everyone who was watching everything unfolding from the safety of their seats. Even the pretty Sofia had to admit that she'd rather not participate in a competition as fierce as this one!
"Wonder if that strategy will pay off, Delu~." If anything, she seemed a bit thoughtful at the prospect. "I'm not even sure what is a good move and what isn't at this point! This is a first timer for me, Delu~! Never seen a situation as complex as this one." Indeed. Just as she had said, Lisa seemed to be forced to back from her previous position and would be rendered unable to seize the advantage that she tried to get. A true pity!
"Seems like Amelie isn't the only person who can teleport, Delu~!" The charming Sofia seemed excited at the show. That always brought a new element to any given situation! "I'd say that the Octomon missed two targets! Seems like hitting Inra has depleted his luck... or maybe he got overconfident? That remains to be seen!"
However... that was the beginning of a scene that could be described as... way more exciting! "Oh, oh! Look at that, Delu~! Lisa was able to discern that her friend was in peril, and together with Ruka and Thunderbirdmon, they managed to shoo off that Ebidramon! And now that the previous ability has worn off, everyone is focusing on advancing once again!"
Of course, things wouldn't be as simple as that, Octomon himself preparing something that seemed to be... pretty much bordering lethal force. The pretty Sofia couldn't but to stare in shock at what would unfold, left speechless at the amount of destruction unleashed by that tactic. For a second, she couldn't mutter a word, her gaze both filled with amazement and horror at what had just happened.
"I guess that Rout Island is no more, Delu~." Somehow, even Sofia's usually vivid and excited tone managed to sound deadpan when saying those words. "And I guess that Blink Team had just been eliminated from the race, unless that Whamon wasn't actually the team's leader." She tried to focus once again in race, just because the show had to continue, and some teams still had to make their way through the 'island'. "Funnily enough, all the teams that were stuck behind the Whamon are dealing with this... somewhat better than with the initial obstacle, Delu~! I'd say that most of these teams had already trained extensively to deal with obstacle courses, but not so much with giant blockades! Maybe this was a good thing, overall? To everyone except Blink Team, obviously."
Onto the participants that were already ahead of that disaster, Beer Flag seemed to be doing rather well. Now that they had gotten rid of any potential attackers and the first places seemed to be about getting ahead rather than eliminating the competition, Amelie couldn't but to sigh in relief. "I don't know what happened, but that was worked out wonderfully. Smart thinking over there."
The mastermind seemed a bit... scatterbrained at the moment, however? Luckily, she left the clouds quickly enough, and the group was already devising how they would act once they got to Joy island. A plan would be already underway... if it weren't for the loud booming sound that came from right behind them. Quickly turning back to see what the whole deal was, Amy was surprised at the massive column if thick smoke that billowed upwards from the place the first island had been.
"That Octomon borrowed your idea for a little bit, except that he weaponized it against the Whamon," Ooi informed, her tone both surprised and a little afraid. "Let's just say that a giant red cross should be drawn in any map that has Route Island in it. And I think that Blink Team is not competing in the race anymore, but the judges have to confirm that. Overall, nothing that affects our team a lot, except that the canal just got unstuck and everyone else should be here shortly. We just should... be aware that the guys in that Octomon's team are rather dangerous. But that was kinda obvious at this point."
For now, it seemed like a better idea to focus on what to do next; precisely, on what to do once they arrived at Joy island. Nodding at Jazz's words, the brunette gave Jazz a calming and reassuring smile. "But you did it." For a second, Amelie rubbed the bunny's head rather affectionately. "And that sounds like a plan. I'll remain in the shore and make sure that nothing bad happens to Liquid or the boat. Do your best on Joy island! I'll be waiting for your return."
She was sure that the pair wouldn't disappoint.

Just staring at the competitors moving through whatever was left of Route Island, Delu finally managed to finally get a grasp on words. “You’re right! We should check with our team of referees right now because that Whamon is out for good, Sofia.” While they waited for the information, the announcers mused over the recent turn of events that had led to the total destruction of the first island of the course. “It seems to be the case! This has helped everyone stuck behind the giant whale, and is about to bring nothing more than complications to the participants up front! Those who had managed to get an advantage are in danger as we speak!” Sofia’s observation was nothing but excellent. The teams seemed to be prepared for these sort of courses, so they weren’t having too much trouble to move through the debris the explosion had left. “Sofia, we’re receiving information that even though Whamon is completely unconscious after that blast, Blink team is NOT eliminated.” The announcer declared while he kept going through the participants with his eyes, looking for any member of the A-Team, but they couldn’t be seen. Maybe underwater?
Arms crossed, as he watched the screen silently, Garmore analyzed the scenario. “Of course. They wouldn’t be so dumb to put the role of the captain in the biggest member of the team. It was obvious that Whamon was an easy target.” Meanwhile, the three Yamnamon kept buzzing around him, still rather stunned at the development, like pretty much the rest of the crowd. “Nevertheless, I am sure they weren’t expecting his biggest member to be taken out that quickly. Those Mambomon are going to have some trouble from here on.”
Shyly, Katherine lowered her glance, after hearing Amelie’s praising for her recent decision making showing. “T-Thanks…” Saying that Katherine needed a hug right now was an understatement, but it wasn’t either the time or the place. Quickly, Ooi’s insight regarding what just had happened behind them arrived. It was pretty obvious what their technical support meant by those words, in case the whole explosion and the sight they had of what was behind them weren’t enough proof of what had occurred. Route Island teared to pieces. “They took the Whamon out” Jazz spouted, listening closely to the report. Yes, the part about A-Team being extremely dangerous was crystal clear for everyone now. However, now they had proved their ability to use information on their own behalf to release destruction. “He used the information I gave him by using the mines to burst up and transformed it into an advantage in the form of a lethal weapon.” Her hand on her chin, Katherine kept pondering about this group. Beer Flag Team was lacking time to overthink, and this became obvious when they shifted their glance forward.
“We’re here, Sisters!” Liquid couldn’t be more right; Joy Island was right in front of them! They could see how Snake and the Shellmons began going around them, by its left side.
“And the first set of competitors are finally reaching Joy Island, Sofia!” Delu declared. A crowd that seemed somehow recovered from the shock of Route Island’s destruction roared excited, especially as the cameras went to TOXIC Team. “But this is odd…” Staring at the screen, the Delumon frowned, a little confused. “Neither Snake or the Shellmon are going inside the island, they just kept moving on top of their structure, going around the land. Aren’t they planning to look for a flag for their own? What’s going on, Sofia?”
From the midst of a very confused crowd, Garmore glanced at the giant Sandiramon staring at the screen too, sitting not that far from him. He could only think how that kind of strategy would be exactly what Cobra would do. It was obvious Snake had taken more than a page out of his book.
“Look! Ricky’s Crewmates are already hopping into the scene!” The bird was right, the Submarimon came out to the surface, just to open its hatch, where three Agumon showed their heads and leaped towards the island, landing safely and immediately starting to run in different directions, looking for a flag. “Remember, everyone! There are ten purple flags scattered on this island. Getting one of those is compulsory before any team goes through the finish line or they can’t be declared winners!” It was probably a good idea to refresh the scenario to the spectators both at the stadium and at home. “Of course, being only ten flags, that adds some certain grade of battle encouragement from now on, Sofia! Since not every team can have a flag."
Once they were close enough, Katherine pulled her digivice out.

Moosemon was now standing at the boat, not leaving too much space for the rest of the passengers. The green-eyed winded the pendant around Liquid. “Yiayia! That tickles, Kath-sis!” While their captain giggled, the curly haired was making sure the boat had protection while she wasn’t around. She immediately got on Moosemon, to then turn towards Amelie. “You should go around the island meanwhile, and we can meet at the other end, once we have the flag.” A determined glance was reigning in the teenager’s countenance. Was she scared? Of course; but just looking at her friend made some bravery get inside of her. “I hope you don’t have to wait much for us.”
Once everything was said and they were close enough to the shore (without stopping movement, since they couldn’t afford wasting time) Jazz would jump into Joy Island, and she and her tamer atop of her would start moving swiftly through the jungle looking for the flag. It was an extremely thick jungle with very few clears and no flag could be seen just yet.
“Amy-sis!” Liquid, while still in charge of the rudder, turned his gaze at his blue-eyed partner. “Should we go around the island through the right or through the left?”
“And here they go! That little Lopmon has evolved into a Moosemon and with another human girl atop of her, they get inside the jungle to look for a flag for Beer Flag Team, Sofia! Do you think this crew will be able to maintain the good performance they had shown so far?” Delu questioned his partner. “And here come the others!” Excited, he pointed at the screen, while the rest of the crowd watched as members from different teams got inside the island. “Seduction, Spinning Records, Dazzling Stars, Blink and other teams had thrown some of their best members to look for a flag inside of this jungle! Which of them will come out with one and which will come out empty handed?”
Finally, the bird received some more information from the referees through his earpiece. “Dear friends, we have confirmed Sturdy Inra is…” The whole crowd went quiet, expectantly. “… still in the race and Waru Team have been cleared to keep competing! The cheering from the crowd almost made the ground of the stadium shake. "And even though they are barely coming out of the mess that Route Island is right now, we can't forget this is a team that has won this race multiple times, Sofia! If someone can recover from this huge disadvantage, it's them!”

Interestingly enough, Blink Team wasn't out of the race just yet. For a second, the charming Sofia seemed a bit thoughtful about the development. "Do you think Blink has a shot at winning the race, Delu~? They've lost a valuable asset for their team super early, and unless they have something more under their fins, I'd say that their chances of emerging victorious have decreased dramatically. I guess we'll have to wait and see!"
Back on the boat, it seemed rather obvious that the brunette was satisfied with the team's performance in Route Island; it had done an excellent job and everyone was in high spirits. Pondering for a couple of seconds while the boat approached Joy Island, Amy couldn't help but to muse. "A-Team seems like the most dangerous team in the whole race; I'd almost say that most of its members are focusing on taking out other teams rather than building an advantage. Guess it wouldn't be too bad to disqualify some of them the next they try to mess with us."
Was she joking? Boasting? Or was she for serious? No way to know, and not like something that mattered for the time being. The group was arriving at Joy Island, and while their strategy was already set, that didn't mean everyone was ready. This would probably be more intense than their journey through Route Island; that much was already as obvious as it came.
"That's right, Delu~! It seems that the route to Joy Island was pretty short with Whamon out of the picture! Everyone seems to be getting ready to disembark. Which teams do you think that will emerge with the flags? Do you think that some teams will just ignore this island and send their secondary team members to 'fetch' the flags from other teams while the leader makes some progress on their own? Maybe that's what TOXIC is doing! I guess we'll have to wait and see, Delu~!"
Of course, nobody lost time at getting to work. Ricky's Crewmates seemed to be taking the initiative while Delu took some time to explain once again what was this peculiar island's dynamic. As things were, this would be an interesting confrontation; the tension was already in the air!
Katherine and Jazz were ready to go, the pendant temporarily changing owners. Liquid being its bearer made sense, even though one thing was more than obvious now; anybody who had observed the team for a length of time would discern that the only person who hadn't abandoned the boat —and the captain, by association—, was Liquid. Would that be problematic? Probably, but hopefully not hugely so.
"Got it. Go hunt some flags! We'll be waiting for your return!" Without much else to say, Amelie bade farewell to the duo as they landed; it was time to focus on their own issues now. "Good luck!"
Time to focus! Gazing at the Candlemon, she nodded. "Let's go counterclockwise. I think that's the best way to tackle it." The reasoning was rather simple, in all honesty; the current seemed to favor that kind of movement over the inverse. And there was no reason to eschew that small boost. Hopefully, they'd begin moving quickly enough!
Back with the commentators! While right now there weren't any exciting events, the knowledge about Inra not being disqualified still resulted in a good portion of the crowd cheering wildly. It was a previous champion who they were talking about, after all!
"That's right, Delu~!" Even the pretty Sofia seemed fired up. "Beer Flag has definitely managed to impress me thus far, and even the fans expect great things from them! According to my notes, those two should be Katherine and Jazz; let's see what they're made of!"
After a small pause, she added. "And alongside them, many other teams began to enter Joy Island. How will that small search carry out? I can only guess, Delu~!"
The duo currently focusing on finding the flag would have to be careful; this island seemed to be pretty much shaped like a maze, and any misstep could get them irrevocably lost if they weren't careful. Their trip would go unimpeded at first, even though their first abrupt dead end would happen after some search. The maws of a cave, almost suspiciously set near the shore. Despite how unlikely that seemed, the tunnel seemed extense, and if any of them dared to gaze inside, something shaped rather oddly could be discerned by the end of it.
Maybe that was the flag?

The joy of knowing Waru Team was still in the competition could be felt around the whole stadium, even minutes after the announcement. The constant roaring and cheering even made difficult for the announcers to speak over the noise engulfing the dome. “I honestly think Blink Team is going to have lots of trouble to get back into this, Sofia.” Delu replied flatly to his partner inquire. “But props to them for not giving up and trying to keep competing even without Whamon!” He added, a little more excited this time.
Snapping his claws as if they were fingers, Delu tackled her partner’s next comment. “Of course. That makes sense!” It was a pretty good deduction, the one that the Ranamon had just issued. “I think that’s exactly what TOXIC is planning. It is a risky move I have to say, but…” He made a brief pause, musing about the situation. “At the same time, I think it’s very fitting for them to do something like this! The question is… who could they snatch a flag from, later on, when they are so far ahead?”
The screens around the stadium kept showing the different team members running across the land. The cameras seemed to be located in the trees of the thick jungle, since an upper view wouldn’t come useful, due to the denseness of the layout. “Lisa has been the envoy for Seduction Team to look for a flag, Sofia! She’s swiftly moving through the jungle as we speak.” The Toucamons of Dazzling Stars had to fly low, trying to look for flags too, while two Kamemon kept running through the undergrowth, representing Spinning records.
The cameras finally caught a glance of Katherine, holding tight atop Jazz, as they sprinted through the jungle. “Hey! That’s the friend of our Empress!” Caesar “pointed” at the screen, buzzing excitedly. “I really hope she can pull this off. It doesn’t seem easy to find a flag inside Joy Island.” Leo remarked, studying the situation. “What do you think, old lady?” He asked, turning towards the disguised Garmore.
“Oh!” He was sort of startled at the addressing. “I think she needs to stay focused in the flag, more than the labyrinth.” The Nanimon kept trying to do an impersonation of a female digimon with his voice. “But…” He then changed into a more serious tone of voice. “If she keeps trying to identify where she is, more than trying to actually look for the thing, regardless of their location, she’s going to have some trouble.” The Yamnamon just stared at the shipwright, surprised by such cold analysis. “Ohohoho! But what do I know, really?” He added, moving a hand dismissively and using that weird voice again.
“Where the hell are we?” Katherine pulled from Jazz’s back fur, studying the environment. The jungle was so dense, so impossible to see through. Her eyes then widened. It wasn’t just the jungle; there was actually an orange colored substance slowly covering the air, which made it harder for them to see! “What is this?” She muttered. “I’ve got no clue. But it’s slowly turning denser.” The Moosemon started moving immediately, running as fast as she could, in a straight line. “If we can get to the shore, we probably can have an idea of where we are.”
However, what they found after around a minute of sprinting, was a gloomy, murky cave. From where they were standing, Katherine could hear the waves smashing the coast. “Jazz. Let’s go inside.” The teenager said, a deadpan on her face. “A-Are you sure?” Her partner seemed a little surprised at this call.
“I don’t think they are putting all the flags in places that are of easy access. I think it makes sense for a flag to be in a place like this.” Couldn’t hurt to try, right? Well, maybe it could, but it was worth taking the risk. The duo went inside, Katherine still atop of the creature. By the end of the cave, a glance of what seemed like a strange object could be seen. Though luck she hadn’t charged her phone since she arrived into this world, because that flashlight could come useful. Katherine decided to approach this figure in order to find out what it was.
Back at the boat, Liquid nodded at Amelie and turned the rudder to his right, starting to go around the island, using the current to get some extra speed. Toxic Team seemed to have taken a different direction, so the horizon was looking pretty clear for the duo, since Ricky’s Crewmates' Submarimon was nowhere to be seen, as usual.
That clearness quickly went away, though. In the most literal sense that phrase can have. An orange, extremely thick fog, immediately blocked their view. “What…?” It was almost impossible to see where they were going now, but the boat kept advancing. Only Liquid’s fireball up his head lightened the scene. “Is this… the war fog?” It couldn’t be a coincidence, right? It was the same orange fog they saw at the screen when the course was being presented to them.
Before anything else could be said, the shield activated and a loud exploding sound echoed through the area. Even when the field was able to deploy and protect them, the trembling water around them made the boat shake. The even startled Liquid, who let go a squeal. “That was a tough one!” He then squinted his eyes, looking for answers.
“We’re being shot at, but I can’t tell from where.” Another blast hit the shield. It wouldn’t be long before their defense overheated and they ended up exposed. It was out of the question if the boat would withstand another of those blasts.
“I think we forgot to tell something to both our participants and our espectators, friends.” Delu mustered a confident smirk, denoting this was actually on purpose. “The war fog, initially located between the Joy and the Borderland Island…” Every screen showing Joy Island and the sea around it allowed to see how that orange mist had covered everything. “… spreads pretty easily!” The stadium roared in pure zeal. A very interesting factor had been added to the already extremely exciting race.
