The Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race [Kath/Amy][Career]

Inevitably, Delu’s voice had acquired the same serious tone Sofia had made use of. When it came to studying both Ebidramon and Inra’s actions, both announcers had left their usual excitement to a side.
“Well, I think it’s not about being lucky, Sofia.” The bird noted. “After all, Liquid and his team do use the same name than Garmore the Builder’s team. I think they might be related somehow, and this Candlemon is not just a casual fan. Furthermore, I think Inra knows this.” It wasn’t hard to intuit all of this, in all honesty. Inra was paying off a debt to, somewhat, the same team he had acquired that debt from, around ten years ago.
“What Inra is doing, however, is nothing short of righteous. He’s not only owning his debt, but he’s also waiting for his rival to be ready, in order to preserve the good sportsmanship of the race he has been a part of for over one hundred years!” The crowd would cheer at this statement. “Even if he doesn’t win right now. It’s very likely no one will ever take Inra’s place as the all-time winner of the All Out Race. And right now, I feel nothing but respect for this digimon. And it seems he has found a worthy opponent in Liquid.”
“It took you long enough, kid.” Inra’s eyes burned with fire, affixed on Liquid as the dragon floated his way.
Speeches were nice an everything, but the moment of truth had arrived.
“That’s Weatherdramon. I’ve only heard legends about this creature. It is not a very common digimon.” Jazz pointed out, looking at the screen.
“Whea-ther-dramon…” Katherine muttered. It was a truly magnificent creature.
Her time to admire Liquid’s new form would be interrupted by Amelie’s arrival. Katherine stood up, only to jump and hug Amelie, as tight as her physical strength (hampered because of everything she had gone through) allowed her to. She grabbed the backpack and tossed it to a side. Of course, she was grateful she recovered that, but it was nothing compared to the fact Amelie was back in one piece.
“I’m so glad you’re okay.” Katherine whispered in her friend’s ear. "Thank you so much."
The sound of the water raising up around them revealed both dragons had started making their way towards the finish line.
"I think our job in this race is over, Amy.” Katherine stated, letting go of that hug, and turning her face towards the dragons, who had already departed. This was it. Liquid versus Inra, at the final stretch. Both dragons moved with a damned velocity that made the water around them lift and tremble. They were moving so fast, not even ten seconds after their set-off, they were approximating the finish line.
The crowd was cheering for their favorite. Tyrus, Leo, and Caesar buzzing in excitement. Blossomon waving his giant flowers from one side to the other filled with emotion. Garmore watching closely. The announcers were smiling and narrating the development. This was the true meaning of the Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race. That last stretch was just delightful to watch.
When everything was said and done, the same horn that announced the race had begun, echoed throughout the arena, announcing it had ended. Jazz, Ooi and the rest of the eliminated teams got to see first hand the two dragons reach the goal. But… who had arrived first? It was definitely a close finish.
“And this is it, Sofia! It’s over!” Delu declared. “And the winner of this edition of the Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race is…!”
The Delumon let his obviously prettier partner, the beautiful, charming, cute, adorable, fashionable, enchanting, lovely, and many other adjectives someone controlling Sofia through all of this would use to describe her, do the honors and declare the winner. It was the least he could do after she had stayed by his side through eleven pages all of this.

While Delu's words were, as usual, true, Sofia wasn't referring to that fact when she had commented on Beer Flag's luck.
"No, it's not that, Delu~. I'm referring to the fact that I'm sure that neither member of the team was banking on the fact that Inra had an ancient debt with Garmore, and would use that information to their advantage. For all what we knew, only Inra knew about this being a possibility! Otherwise, the events that would have unfolded would've been quite different, don't you think? I can say, without a sliver of a doubt, that Inra could've singlehandedly won this race. Now, though? It seems like it'll be a fairly close finish! I can't wait to see what'll happen!"
Of course, that wasn't everything currently happening at the moment, while Liquid and Inra raced across the shore, Amelie and Katherine were sharing a tender moment together. A hug was promptly reciprocated, and while the brunette would've been thankful for a more positive response about the backpack that had been a bitch to recover, things were ultimately... fine.
"You're welcome, Curls." Amy was glad to have been of help. A smirk promptly appeared on her. "Why wouldn't I be okay? Told you I can take care of myself, right? Unlike you; when I told you to be a good girl and wait for me, it didn't mean you had to get yourself kidnapped by a shrimp, you know? You were almost a goner there."
And while her friend was mostly right; the teenager felt the need to contradict her. "Of course our job isn't over." Her smirk wasn't wavering. "We're still a team, you know? We wouldn't be good teammates if we didn't cheer Liquid as he competes with Inra. And before you say it; I don't care if he's too far away already and can't hear us."
Thus, it meant that at least one of Liquid's teammates wouldn't let the last moments of the race slide. As the two dragons approached the finish, the general enthusiasm among the audience rose, going as far as to affect the commentators! Eventually, the two dragons crossed the finish line almost at the same time, even though the result had been clear to the referees.
"It's over!" A cheerful Sofia finally exclaimed. "Beer Flag Team has won this edition of the All-Out Race!" The crowd seemed to go crazy, and even the people who were cheering for Inra began to clap, while the remainder of the team who was currently stranded in a rudderless boat was towed to the shore. All the while? A smiling Amy waved and smile at the audience currently cheering for them. Sure, most of them were focused on Liquid given that he was the one who reached the finish line, but ultimately... that was fine.
"See? I told you, Curls. This race would be a piece of cake. The only thing left is greeting everyone and claiming your little gem. Ain't that nice?" It was weird, but the teenager seemed positively radiant, as if none of the race's strain had any effect on her. "I wonder if we'll get interviewed by the commentators or something. I'm sure we'll make it to the local papers!"
She was sure to write an article about the whole deal; no way to leave such an important task to the amateurs! But that was something for later. For now, the duo had finally reached the shore, Ooi, and quite possibly, Jazz running to greet the duo.
"You did a good job." The dark-haired girl was smiling as well. "I'm glad you two are safe and sound."
"They didn't stand a chance." the brunette replied, letting out a long sigh. She blinked, and for a second, a somewhat exhausted expression was revealed. "Hey, why are there two Oois? I thought that-"
From one moment to the next, the girl had fallen, her body collapsing on the soft sand. Completely unconscious. A very alarmed Ooi kneeled in front of her, first making sure that she was facing upwards, and then checking her vital signs. Eventually, her face was washed with relief.
"I guess that.. it was more than a good job. You really did your best, didn't you?" After a sigh, and if Katherine and/or Jazz were still around, she'd gaze at them. "Don't worry, she's just a dummo that doesn't know when to stop; she'll be fine. I'm going to get her to Liquid's house, so she can rest a bit. All things considered, I'm sure that she'd prefer for you to remain here and enjoy your victory, but... Amy's not the kind of girl that usually goes by what she's told unless she feels like it, so... it's up to you, I guess?"
For now, the teenager made sure to let the expectant Sofia know about the situation, and about the fact that it was mostly under control. Whether Jazz would help her carry her towards Liquid's shack, or if she would have to ask Tyrus and Caesar for a lift, that remained to be seen.
One question lingered in the air, however. Who would be interviewed? Beer Flag minus Amelie and Ooi, just Liquid, or nobody at all? For a second, the girl felt a bit sad because this event was obviously tarnishing the Weatherdramon's joy about what pretty much was his dream come true, but... that was just how things were.

The ambient inside the stadium was truly exhilarating. It didn’t matter who you were cheering for originally, that finish had been so exciting it got everyone on their feet clapping and roaring.
“The crazy Candlemon-guy did it! I can’t believe it” Caesar buzzed in excitement. “Oh! The burning fire of a dream that never dies, taking a young soul to a victorious conclusion once again!” an overdramatic Leo was also part of the celebration.
Garmore, on his side, just showed a wide grin.
As they were taken to the shore by some JungleMojyamons, not far from Snake and the rest of his team, Katherine felt the excitement in the environment going through her. However, the exhaustion and nervousness of almost dying a while ago, wasn’t letting her enjoy this moment as much as she wanted. It was a good thing to see Amelie wasn’t having much trouble in this department. Both Inra and Liquid had fallen over the sand, completely exhausted, after giving their all in that last stretch.
“Yes. Piece of cake. Of course.” It wasn’t. At least not for her. The curly-haired girl sat on the sand, breathing heavily. She felt like she couldn’t even move a muscle. She was greeted by Jazz, who simply jumped to her tamer's arms and hugged her with all of her limps (ears included).
“We did it Kath!” She shouted, visibly excited.
To be honest, what Jazz had done during the race was nothing short of amazing. Even if the fact that she evolved (which the green-eyed hadn’t really had time to process yet) was not listed, there were still a lot of things to stand out about the bunny's performance. She had kept them going through the most difficult times in this competition. And…
“We wouldn’t have made it without you.” Katherine showed a smile to the little Lopmon. “You were the one who told Liquid he had to keep going. Even when I couldn’t. You showed an amazing determination, Jazz.” She concluded, wrapping her arms around her. It seemed like her curiosity wasn’t the only ‘undying’ thing in Jazz. And she had proved that much today. The bunny would then leap towards Amelie to give Shisei her own share of hugging.
During all of this, Liquid waved his arms at everyone in the arena, finally reincorporating. The group was about to go his way to congratulate him, but it would be him who would rush to the group. The reason? Amelie had fallen unconscious on the ground. Katherine and Jazz approximated their teammate too. After some seconds of high tension, Ooi confirmed the girl was overall fine, and just needed some rest.
It was clear this race had taken a huge toll on everyone. Even a bigger one than they had originally expected. Proof of that was that, to this point, it was even hard to believe they had won.
Liquid let out a sigh in relief after hearing Ooi’s insight. “I’ll go with you, Ooi-sis.” He noted.
“No way!” Katherine stood up right in front of the Weatherdramon. Even if he looked a bit… imposing, she was still getting some very familiar vibes from him. It was clear he was still the same old Liquid. “You’re staying here, understood?” She declared, firmly. “You didn’t wait twenty years for this moment for not having a celebration, okay? And we didn’t go through all of that for you to not be at your ceremony.” It was true this was Beer Flag’s victory, as a whole. But this victory meant more to Liquid than for anyone else in the team. And that's how it should be. This was him proving to the world (and that stupid Snake guy) that, if you work hard, dreams do come true.
Katherine’s gaze was dead-serious. Maybe a bit of Amelie had gotten into her, but she needed to set her foot down on this one.
“I… okay. But I’ll go there as soon as the ceremony finishes, okay?”
Now that that was out of the way, Kath went to help Ooi carrying Amelie. It was needless to say she and Jazz were going back to Liquid’s house with their friends. While they walked towards the exit of the stadium carrying Amelie, the silhouette of a shadow over the sand, right in front of them, would make Katherine and Jazz (and probably Ooi too) raise their gaze and stop. There was someone in their way.
A giant figure of around two and a half meters tall was standing right in front of them. A pair of bright, silver eyes observed them from beneath the coat, almost piercing through the curly-haired girl’s skin. This feeling was… somewhat familiar. The digimon just stood there for what seemed like an eternity but were nothing but mere 10 seconds.
His eyes went to Amelie before uttering any words. “That’s a very impressive human.” A cold, sepulchral voice spoke. “... But that doesn’t really matter right now.” He declared.
That was everything Katherine needed to hear to know who this digimon was. His voice, his way of speaking, the phrase he used. They were all indicatives of who it was
Katherine placed her hand on Amelie’s face. It was nothing but a gesture that said ‘I’m protecting this’. Other than this, she couldn’t do anything else. Not only because she was paralyzed, but because it was obvious this creature outpowered both her and Jazz.
"You have beaten me twice, haven't you?" He said, sounding dead-serious. "Let's see how many more gems you can find, then."
Just like this, the coated digimon started making his way to the exit, walking slowly. Right when he turned his back to walk away, Katherine could see the red color on the tips of his feathers.
“V-Valkyrimon…” The word escaped the girl’s lips, almost in a whisper. There was no doubt, this was the member of the Dark Army they had met on the train through Cipher Jungle. The amount of energy he bestowed could almost be felt with just seeing him.
While the coated digimon walked away into the distance, a figure approached Katherine, Jazz, Ooi and the unconscious Amelie.
“Congratulation, missies! That was an amazing performance.” At first, it was hard to tell it was Garmore, due to him using that 'woman-like' voice he had used when he greeted them at the start of the race. Once the shipwright was close enough to the girls so no one could listen, he used his regular voice, whispering.
“That guy was looking at you and at the prize during the whole race. Do you know him?”
Katherine’s eyes widened. The Zoid Gem. Could she and Jazz really leave the prize alone to be handled without them being there? The Lopmon was completely exhausted and very much unable to do any fighting, but they should at least be around the gem.
The proof that Jazz was thinking the same came quickly. “Kath… I think we should stay here.”
It would be almost disrespectful to Amelie’s effort to not do everything in their hands to protect that gem, after everything she had done to help them win it.
“Ohohoho! please, stay right here, dear! I will help you take your friend home.” Garmore spoke again with his fake voice. “I need to get out of here before they see through this stupid disguise anyways.” He whispered in his real voice, offering to take Amelie from Ooi's arm. If she handled the girl to him, Garmore would carry the girl out without much trouble, even if she was much taller than him.
Leaving Amelie in Ooi and Garmore’s hands, and after waving their temporary goodbyes at the group, Katherine and Jazz went back to the stage that was being prepared for the awarding ceremony and that interview Sofia seemed to be waiting for. They remained close to Liquid, without taking their eyes off the gem, who remained on top of the pedestal where they had seen it earlier.
While Inra congratulated him, Liquid’s gaze was going through the whole beach, looking for a certain team. They had been eliminated halfway through the race, but there was something he needed to ask them.
The question remained… was Deep Sea Team still on the beach or had them taken their leave?

All things considered, Ooi wasn't going to encourage or discourage anyone from accompanying her while she carried an unconscious Amelie to a well-deserved rest. She wasn't going to influence the personal feelings regarding this topic and how important everyone perceived it was when in relation to celebrating their victory.
For now, it seemed like Liquid will remain for the awarding ceremony, and that both Katherine and Jazz would accompany Ooi and the unconscious Amelie back to Liquid's shack. It would be calm return, since there was nothing to fear.
Right? To say that the dark-haired teenager wasn't a fan of the figure that had interposed itself amid there path was a bit of an understatement. Auburn eyes suddenly were affixed on the cloaked digimon, the spark of hostility more than evident on them. It wasn't hard to guess that whoever this being was, he wasn't up to anything good.
"Good." She muttered; disdain was obvious in Ooi's voice. "Because if you were here just to appraise her, I'd have told you to get lost."
Not minding Katherine's gestures, the human seemed to have found an enmity of sorts in mere instants. Was it out of friendship? Or just possessiveness? To an analytic observer, it was genuinely hard to tell. "But since you've just come to show off and you've already said what you wanted to, I'll just say it again; get lost. My unconscious friend needs to rest."
The fact that he had abandoned the scene probably had next to nothing to do with Ooi's threats. But at least it had served to state rather clearly that the guy wasn't somebody she wanted around. Unlike Garmore; her disposition changed drastically as soon as the Nanimon made his appearance. A friendly face was way better company than a shady stranger.
To say the least, the conclusion of their exchange would be something ultimately positive. Garmore was now helping her to carry Amy back to the safety of Liquid's shack.
All's well that ends well.
For now, the prize ceremony was underway, and everyone seemed to be happy, except for Liquid who was gazing at the beach. What was he looking for? Oh, one of the many teams; yup! They were there, watching the spectacle with smiles in their faces. Truth was that the race had been a spectacle worthy of praise, even if their disqualification had been a bit of a pity.
Right now, however, Sophia was standing next to the winners, holding her microphone and smiling at the three remaining members of Beer Flag Team. "Well, well! Here we are! The race is finally over, and like always, I'm your favorite commentator, the beautiful Sofia!" The Ranamon winked at the camera before continuing. "With me, I have Katherine, Jazz, and Liquid. None other than the winners of this edition of this race; they're Beer Flag Team!"
A round of applause ensued before the Ranamon continued. "So, tell me. What moved you to participate in the race? I'm sure you all prepared really intensively for an event that happens once every ten years, right? Why don't you share with us your routine?"
Of course, the questions wouldn't just end there, Sofia had plenty more! "Tell how your experiences in the race, and what was your favorite and the tensest moment you faced. And if you want to add anything else, feel free to do so!"
There were many more, but those would suffice for the time being. Smothering the group wasn't something she was keen on doing.

Having found the team that he was looking for amidst the crowd, Liquid made sure to keep an eye on them during the whole ceremony. That way, in case they decided to go anywhere during the prize handling, Liquid would notice. He couldn’t let them get away so easily, there was something he needed to ask once this was all over.
Regarding Katherine and Jazz, they both tried to show their best smile to the crowd and Sofia, once Delu called them up to the stage. This year, the podium had been fairly easy to complete. Waru team had finished second and TOXIC had finished third. Their reactions to this outcome had been, however, completely different.
Snake, Kaku, and Koki just took their bronze medal and took their leave with it. It was likely TOXIC was going to keep being a recurring team in these races so, if Liquid wanted to defend that tittle ten years from now, they would face each other again.
Inra, who was now back at his MegaSeadramon form, received his silver medal, along with his two Betamon partners and stayed for the interview. The sea-serpent had already congratulated the entirety of Beer Flag (except for Amelie, due to obvious reasons) and seemed very happy for the team's victory as a whole. After all, the ending had been exactly what he wanted, a fair and square race to the finish line.
Of course, both the teenager and the bunny’s heads were not at the awarding ceremony right now. Having seen that Valkyrimon from up close again had made them nervous. They knew the amount of power he bestowed after that face-off at the train, so the question that remained inside their heads was… If he knew where they were, why hadn’t he taken the Zoid Gems they already had? Why was he letting them keep gathering more gems? And, in case he had just found them, could they be expecting for him to attack at any minute?
Trying to come up with an answer for all of these questions didn’t seem possible right now.
In any case, it was time to focus in Sofia’s questions. There were even TV cameras on them! Who could be seeing this right now? That was something fun to think about, no doubt.
The crowd was cheering again, now that Sofia had started interrogating. After her first query, Liquid took the mic, shyly.
“H-Hi!” He waved at the crowd. The whole stadium replied by roaring in excitement. “Well, first of all, I would like to say we three didn't win this race by ourselves. Amy-sis and Ooi-sis are winners too. We definitely wouldn’t have done it without them.” It was honestly something everyone was very much aware of, but letting Sofia only mention them three just didn’t feel right to the dragon. Katherine and Jazz nodded, giving a reassuring smile to the former Candlemon.
“About preparation…” Boy, did Liquid prepare for this. “… I could say I had been preparing for this for at least ten years.” He explained, scratching one side of his face.
“I would even go as far as saying that he had been preparing for this during his whole life.” Katherine added, both arms behind her back and leaning a bit forward for her voice to reach the mic. Liquid just chuckled, with a more mature version of his own classical laughter. Seeing the Weatherdramon didn’t seem ready to add anything else, Jazz spoke, from Katherine’s arms.
“T-The rest of us…” The bunny made a short pause to swallow. She was still a bit afraid of other digimon, so it wasn’t that easy to speak into a mic with hundreds of people listening to her. “…only joined the team recently, but we were immediately convinced by out captain’s determination.” She added.
“Since we started working together, we aimed to get the best fuel and parts for the boat, so we could have some type of chance against such amazing and powerful digimon.” Katherine spoke again. Jazz gasped immediately. “We didn’t get to use the wings!” The sentence escaped Jazz. Well, that was a pity. Katherine just giggled at her partner’s comment.
Regarding the experiences… gosh, it was hard to pick one! They had gone through so much.
“Everything was super fun!” Liquid declared. That probably wouldn’t do, right?
“I would say the tensest and, at the same time, my favorite moment was by the end of the race. Liquid was about to be declared unable to keep going and, since he was our captain, we were about to be eliminated, right?” Katherine placed her index finger below her lower lip, looking rather pensive. “It was amazing seeing Liquid evolve from so up close right when we most needed it.” Katherine’s green eyes went back to the dragon. A light red color appeared around his face as he chuckled.
That would do for now. If Sofia was done with her interview or not, they were about to find out.

It was indeed a joyful moment for BeerFlag, or, as Liquid had put it, the members of the team that were currently on stage. Sofia quickly nodded at the words said by the Weatherdramon. "Indeed, indeed! While regrettably, not all the members of the team could make it to the ceremony, I can safely say that your performance had been nothing short of impressive! The best rookie team I've seen in a long while if you ask me."
The group had been quick to answer the Ranamon's questions, the audience listening attentively to everything the team had to say. Maybe it was an unintended effect, but they truly were an easy pair to interview. Jazz initially didn't seem to be all that talkative, but eventually mellowed out.
Quickly nodding at the answers, Sofia smiled. She had some questions left. "Alright, you've done great thus far; we're almost there! Since you've done so well on your first appearance of the All-Out Race, any piece of advice you want to give to any aspiring teams looking to get into it? The prospect may seem daunting to some, but I'm sure that a fair bit of those might get inspired by your example!"
After getting her reply, the last couple of questions would be issued. "Anything else you might want to add! Oh, and... would you like to greet anyone over your success? I'm sure that your loved ones are watching the outcome of this race, either on TV or maybe in person!"
Once the interview was over, the awarding ceremony would go on normally, and the teams and spectators would slowly begin to make their way out of the beach. All's well that ends well, even though that also meant that Deep Sea was doing the same as everyone else. Maybe it was time for Liquid to take the initiative?

Being praised after the amount of hard work each of them had put into this felt really good. The fact that they had made history in such an important event was a reward on its own.
“Thank you so much.” Katherine bowed to Sofia, respectfully.
Now, the group went on to tackle the rest of Sofia’s questions. In fact, they all knew it was Liquid who should give an inspiring speech to the young viewers. After all, he was a young viewer once, who got inspired by a certain shipwright’s speech.
Liquid raised his gaze for a while, trying to come up with something. He then approached the mic offered by Sofia. “I’m not… very good with these things. Garmore used to do it better.” He chuckled. “But! I will tell you something…” The Weatherdramon eyes went to the camera on him. “Any road to success is plagued with disbelievers. You’ll get tired of hearing you can’t do it and people will abandon you on your goal even more than once. I used to think in order to overcome that you only needed to believe in yourself. However, I came to understanding you actually need two things.” Raising two of his claws, Liquid continued. “Determination… and good friends.” For a second, his eyes went to Katherine and Jazz. “One to never stop believing in your dreams and the other ones to remind you that you can do it, the few times you think you can’t.”
Naturally, a smile graced both Jazz and Katherine’s faces.
“So keep working hard, look for real friends and, no matter what you do, remember…” The dragon took a deep breath to then shout his next words intensively. “… No dream is futile!”
The crowd, of course, didn’t lose the chance to react effusively to these words.
Katherine and Jazz decided to take Sofia’s last question. “W-Well… We would like to thank a certain shipwright for always believing in Liquid.” “I did it, old man!” The dragon floated behind the girl and the bunny. “Regarding anyone else… well, I don’t have that many friends.” The teenager brought her index finger back to her lower lip, trying to think. “I hope to see you soon, Boru, Koru, Roru!” Jazz blurted out, before hiding her face in Katherine’s swimsuit, shyly. She was still having trouble to speak in front of the cameras.
“Well, I guess that’s it.” Katherine sweatdropped, smiling.
Delu would deliver with some words next, reminding everyone the true spirit of the race and how they had an amazing time today. He also thanked the engineers that worked on creating the giant wave that chased the competitors by the end, remarking how they were able to just "turn it off" once the race finished and make it have no impact at all. He would then approach Katherine and Jazz with a glowing piece of jewelry atop a cushion. There was no doubt, according to how Reiki had described it and that transparent color; this had to be the Pearl Zoid Gem.
Katherine took it with both hands while she and Jazz stared at the item for some seconds. Just like the rest of the gems they had gotten so far, it emitted a very particular type of energy. Katherine could only wonder what powers may it have. After all, she already had a grasp on what the other two gems did, but this one was a complete mystery so far. She took the gem and put it inside her backpack, still wary of her surroundings.
As everyone left the stadium, what was left of Beer Flag waved their goodbyes at Sofia, Delu, and Inra.
“I’ll go by that Garmore’s warehouse later this week, kid. So I hope to see you there.” “You can count on it, Marine Old Man.” Liquid showed a smile to the dragon. It seemed like referring at him by his name as he did formerly, had only been akin to the race and he was back at his usual nicknaming for the Megaseadramon.
“Thank you for helping us back there, Mr. Inra.” Katherine and Jazz bowed to Waru team as a whole. Inra shook his head. “You have nothing to thank me for. I was just making sure the race had the finish we all deserved.” The MegaSeadramon replied with a serious tone of voice. “I hope you keep dreaming and achieving amazing things inside this world.” He added, showing a bit of a smirk to the duo as he and the Betamons made their way back into the sea.
“Liquid…” Katherine’s green eyes went to the dragon, shyly. “You don’t… need the gem, right?” The Weatherdramon tilted his head, a bit confused at first. “Oh. That thing? Nah. I have no interest in it. You can keep it.” He leisurely replied.
“Hey, Beer Flag! We’re going back to the jungle! Are you coming?” Caesar buzzed from the entrance of the Coliseum, next to him, the group could spot Leo, Tyrus, and Blossomon.
Did Kath like the idea of walking along the insect digimon? Of course she didn’t. Not even a bit. But it was probably a good idea to have some company right now, considering the duo was still wary of that Valkyrimon.
“I will… caught up with you in a minute.” Liquid’s eyes scanned the scene once again. “Go ahead!” The dragon exclaimed to both Katherine and Jazz as he floated towards Deep Sea Team.
He approached Marie, the two humans, and their Swimmon as they made their way out of the arena.
“H-Hi there…” He started. What was the right way to do this? “Your name is Sekai, isn’t it?” The dragon asked, this time addressing the human girl specifically.
“Maybe this is a bit weird of me to ask but… Do I know you? To be honest, at first I tried to make myself think I was imaging things, but now that I’m seeing you again, I can’t stop thinking you’re someone I knew from when I was a Gigimon.”
Would this be enough to clear out the air?

As everyone began leaving the scene, Liquid caught up with one of the many groups that were leaving. Deep Sea, a team that had been disqualified in what looked like a stroke of bad luck, but could've been planned better, all things considered. Yet, it was doubtful that Liquid had approached them with the intention of discussing race strategies.
There was something to that team that was familiar to him. The girl over there; the splitting image of a long-gone past. How much time had it been? The fact that there were probably many unanswered questions swirling through Liquid's head was a bit of an understatement, but right now was... time for the truth, more or less!
A single question made the girl turn, all while Marie, Makoto, and the Swimmon kept walking. "Yup. That's my name. Congratulations for the win. Marie told me you two met a couple of days before the race. Talk about... coincidences, huh?"
She still wasn't sure on why the Weatherdramon had asked that question at first, even though realization slowly dawned on her face. Her visage wrinkled a bit, before going back to her usual, carefree expression. "I'm afraid you don't, but, if I'm guessing right, you were acquaintances with... my mother."
What followed was an awkward pause, the brunette twiddling her thumbs just a bit before proceeding. "Would you like to visit her? I'd like to say that she'd be happy to see you, but... I'm not sure if you'll be happy to see her."
A rather cryptic proposal, not to say that the implications of Sekai's words didn't quite make sense. Was she hiding something? It looked like that, yet her words sounded earnest at the same time. It was a bit confusing.

Before merging with the group that would accompany them back to the jungle, Katherine took a moment to slid the t-shirt she had put inside her backpack before the race started. Her shorts were still soaked from Ebidramon dragging her into the water before but that would have to wait. She had left some clothes back at the hut, after all. Just now, she was starting to realize how hungry she was! She better cocked something once they got back at Liquid’s.
Speaking of Liquid...
“What do you think he’s going to do?” Jazz asked her tamer, while the curly-haired girl accommodated her backpack once again and started making her way towards the exit.
“I think it’s related to that girl she was staring at before the race started. The one who was part of Marie's team. It seemed like he knew her.”
And, as a matter of fact, not even Liquid knew if he knew this girl or not at the moment.
“T-Thank you.” The dragon scratched a side of his face, showing a faint smile. “I watched some of the recaps they showed on the screens before the ceremony. That Aegisdramon looked amazing! Was that Marie’s evolved form or…?” The Weatherdramon’s eyes went to the Swinmon, who kept making his way to the exit.
“Yes, we did meet. She’s nice.” He stated. Seeing the Terriermon actually belonged to another team had been kind of a shock for him. A shock that had been eclipsed by the bigger shock this girl’s appearance had been.
And it seemed bigger shocks were at the order of the day. Sekai was saying something that was equally astonishing and… absurd.
“Your… mom?” Liquid asked, moving his lips slowly. What did that even mean? “But... that can’t be.” He noted. The human group from where he recognized this girl had been with him only around six years ago. How could that girl have had a child during that time, if she was around 12 the last time he saw her? It was true he didn’t know a lot about how humans worked but…
“Sure!” There was only one way to actually find out how much nonsense was behind what this girl was saying. “I will definitely go!” And that way was going to see it with his own eyes.
“But… I don’t get it. Where is she now?”
He blinked twice, a bit confused.

Liquid seemed like a nice guy who had gotten rid of his obnoxious laughter. A bit on the timid side, but that was okay. In a sense, he hadn't changed one bit in regards to what her mom had told her.
It was funny, in a sense. "Jogress. It took us a fair bit of effort, but we managed to pull it off. Ain't it nice?" She smirked at the remark, idly wondering if Liquid knew what she was talking about. "Despite her looks, Marie is pretty strong. Maybe she could teach Jazz a thing or two? I'm sure those two would get along fairly well."
Sure, her statement seemed to be on the realm of absurdity. But that was okay; the girl could understand why Liquid didn't buy her story complete. Honestly? She wouldn't have bought her own story if she hadn't lived it.
Anyway. "I guess there's no reason why I should hide this," Sekai explained as the duo entered Whitewater and navigated through the main street. Seemingly not in a hurry, the girl walked at a fairly relaxed pace. "I guess that you vaguely know how the human world works. And how time passes at a slower pace there than here. I'm not gonna bother you with the boring details, but..."
They crossed an arch into what seemed to be an inner garden. A neatly arranged path was ahead of them. It split several times, each path ending on an engraved stone plate. Where they were was fairly obvious at this point, and that probably didn't make the situation any easier to understand.
"It'd be really naïve to think there are just two worlds, amiright? To most, it's probably a non-issue; for me, it wasn't." She made a pause, finally turning at the right on a path and finally sitting on the soft grass, directly in front of the gravestone that marked the end of that path.
"She got stuck due to the machinations of a guy named Parallelmon. Why her? I have no idea." The teenager made a pause; talking about it wasn't getting any easier despite the time that had passed. "She was stuck there for forty years. I was born there."
A sigh escaped her throat. Despite barely knowing him, Liquid was one of the few connections Sekai had with her mother's past. Not the best relationship, but... definitely better than nothing. "I wasn't a bad place, but she always insisted on it not being her home. When I was a kid, she told me all the stories of her adventures in this world, and while for me it didn't feel any different, for her it was like the night and the day. She was determined to get back."
An image was worth more than a thousand words, though. "But defeating a digimon with that amount of power wasn't easy. She ended up paying the ultimate price for her freedom. I consider myself a foreigner in this world, but I've been doing my best to live the life that she'd have wished for me, as difficult as that is for an outsider." Existential dramas weren't an adequate burden for somebody who was supposed to celebrate his victory, though. "Anyhow. One of the stories she told me was about how she met you, and how the way you separated wasn't quite... happy, to say the least. She was regretful about that, and one of the promises she made was that she'd find you once she got back and tell you she was sorry for being such a bad friend. One of the many regrets she had at the moment of her parting, even though, honestly? I doubt that was at the forefront of her mind."
Yet. "What you do with that is... honestly up to you. I can't really blame you if you decide this is a half-hearted apology, mostly because I can't really apologize for another person's stead. But I think it'd be nice for this to reach some sort of conclusion, all things considered." Just then was when the girl took brought out a small flower from what seemed her pocket, and placed it at the end of the plate. "And... that's the story, more or less. Sorry for burdening you with something like this, but I felt like you had the right to know."

During all of Sekai’s story Liquid just remained quiet. He occasionally nodded when the human looked for reaffirmation In him, but he didn’t say anything else in essence. Not until she was completely done.
“No… it’s… not a burden.” The Weatherdramon shook his head. He seemed pensive, troubled, and a bit sad, even.
“I remember installing the prototype that opened portals for traveling between this world and the Human World for Youko and the rest of the group. At that time, I believe the digi-ports weren’t widely known yet, so I called some guy in Terminus who was working in this new technology. I asked him to send me the blueprints and I modified her digivice myself.” This was something he had told Katherine and the rest before. However, it was something Sekai could not be aware of. “Maybe the fact it was barely a prototype made it malfunction and brought her to find this Parallelmon? I… honestly don’t know.” It was very likely Sekai was not even close to knowing if this assumption was even remotely close to the truth. Still, Liquid felt that, if he could contribute with any kind of information, he should do it.
If Sekai's mom had told her daughter about this, it meant Liquid had somehow remained engraved in her memory, even after forty years.
"Being an awful person isn't something you grow into”
Amelie’s words echoed inside the dragon’s head. If that was the case… could a human grow into being a good person? There was so much he didn’t know about humans. There was so much to discover about this world… and now even other worlds!
“I remember thinking this traveling between dimensions and opening portals sounded very interesting. At the moment, I remember I was very curious about going with Kouta, one of your mother’s friends, to the Human World. Since I had to keep working on my boat, I never could. Once he left, I tried to keep myself away from anything related to him, so I simply forgot about it.” The former candle made a pause, thinking. “Now that I have accomplished my main goal in life… I think I know what I want to do.”
The sky in Whitewater was as clear as Liquid’s convictions. “If I stay in this world, I probably can unfold the secrets behind digimon’s evolution. If I go to the Human World, I might discover if humans can actually evolve. So I’m going to go even beyond. I’ll try to know every world there is to be known and see how different types of beings from every dimension can become better.”
Who knew, maybe a bit of Katherine and Jazz's undying curiosity had been contagious. In any case, he was talking too much, right?
“I-I’m sorry… I got over-excited.” He showed an apologetic smile at the human. “Thanks for clearing things up for me. I really needed that.” He made a pause, looking at the girl. “I think the rest of your teammates might be waiting for you.” Was either Marie or Swinmon her digimon partner? How had she met Makoto, being from another world? There was a lot he wanted to ask this girl, but he had his own team waiting for him.
“Would you… be okay with exchanging our D-Terminal contact info? Being someone who came from another dimension, I might want to ask you some stuff further on.” Liquid asked, shyly. “I-I mean! I won’t bother you or anything, I swear, but if you don’t want to, that’s fine, too!”
Once everything was said and done there and whether he had gotten Sekai’s contact info or not, Liquid would go back to his hut. Other than Katherine trying to cook something at the kitchen and Jazz napping, what would he find there? The first thing he would do, of course, was checking on Amy.

Liquid was quick to provide her own insights into the situation. Despite the fact that Sekai seemed a bit skeptic at first, her countenance quickly mellowed at the mention of her mother's name. The truth was that the Weatherdramon's explanations managed to make... a fair bit of sense, actually.
In the end, she was thankful he understood the reasons and motives of her mother's actions. They didn't make the teenager exactly proud, but that was how life was. Mistakes were an inevitable part of human nature, but what mattered, in the end, was identifying them as what they were, and trying to correct them if possible.
Youko hadn't been able to; she had passed away with regrets on her mind. And that was understandable. Happy endings were stuff from fairytales that had no place in reality. Life would be merciless at every opportunity if given the chance; that much was a truth.
Ultimately, the brunette nodded at Liquid's words. "Nah. I doubt you're at fault for anything that happened. It had to do with mom venturing to places that were too dangerous for somebody her age. However... I'd like to check your blueprints at some point, if you don't mind. There may be a fair amount of things I could learn from them."
The journey of Liquid's life was something Sekai had a mild interest in, mostly because the connection between the two had been next to nonexistent thus far. Yet... he was an important part of her mother's past, one of the few anchors that grounded her mind amid the harrowing journey between universes. Guess it wouldn't be too bad to strengthen that one a bit, would it?
"That's one interesting goal." The girl smirked. "I wouldn't mind being able to visit home every now all then, all things considered. Wasn't able to bid some farewells, nor to settle some matters. Wouldn't mind helping you, should you need it."
Of course, the Weatherdramon's display wasn't something she minded at all. "Don't sweat it. Why would you have to apologize for being eager? I think that's a good thing; sure, the road ahead is going to be pretty hard, considering how lofty your goals are. But I believe that, with enough conviction, anything is possible." Shrugging at the eventual comment, she proceeded to nod. "But, you're right. Marie and the others are waiting for me. And, I'm sure your team is waiting for their captain as well."
Exchanging contact information was something that Sekai had taken for granted at this point. Without missing a beat, she handed him her D-Terminal, so he could input his contact information. Once they were done, the brunette stood up. "We'll be chatting soon, hopefully! Catch you later, Liquid."
Just like that, she made her exit. What was happening in Liquid's Shack? To say the least, the environment wasn't as festive as it could be! But that had its reasons; everyone was tired, and judging from Katherine's actions in the kitchen, ordering takeaway was out of question. Ooi was helping Katherine with the table and that stuff. Jazz was asleep. And Amelie was in the bedroom soundly sleeping in one of the many beds that were there. Thankfully, her sleep didn't seem troubled; in fact, it seemed like she was resting more peacefully than the previous days, if something like that could even be noted.
However, it was obvious that she wasn't waking up any time soon, either.

The conversation with Sekai had gone even better than expected. Liquid had not only managed to clear any doubt regarding the girl's identity but had also found a new goal for him to chase. And even someone who could have some interest in that goat, at that. Naturally, the time to focus on this would arrive once he had rested and possibly celebrated Beer Flag Team's victory.
Having this in mind, Liquid had returned to the shack. After saying hi to both Katherine and Ooi, the dragon immediately headed upstairs to take a look on Amelie, only to find Jazz peacefully sleeping by her side, on the same bed. This race had not only forged a friendship between a lonely digimon and the girls; the rest of the members had also bonded in the process, and that much was clear.
The rest of the day went by at peace. Garmore arrived at noon and everyone awake had lunch in the living room. Liquid took the time to tell them about the conversation he had with Sekai, explaining all of the mysteries surrounding her appearance.
Of course, a fair share of the conversation was about the race, what had transpired inside the Binary Archipelago and the outcome. Garmore questioned Katherine about the digimon who approached the girls after the race so she and Jazz decided to tell the group everything about the Zoid Gems. Regarding this topic, it seemed like Garmore had something to say but he decided to keep it to himself, for now.
The rest of their little chat was about Liquid feeling unable to go back to his Candlemon form. Garmore explained that, for some digimon who evolved naturally, it could take them some time to go back to the form they had before. He did say, however, that it would definitely happen at some point.
After lunch, Katherine and Liquid took their own nap, only to wake up to the sound of some very cheerful music. 'Curls' opened her eyes, realizing it was dark outside already. She took some steps towards the window of the room. Her green eyes quickly caught sight of Garmore, Inra along his team (two Betamons), the Yamnamons and Jazz reunited near the lake, around a bonfire and the same old radio that was always at Liquid's kitchen.
"Hey, miss!" Garmore waved at the girl from down below. Everyone else turned to see her, waving too. "You wouldn't think we were going to let you go without having a celebration for Beer Flag's victory, right?" The shipwright placed both hands around his waist and laughed effusively, with his characteristic type of laugh.
Next to the pond, a table topped with all kinds of food and drinks could be seen. Jazz seemed to be accommodating everything and setting up the place.
Katherine woke Liquid up and they both headed downstairs. The ambient around the pond was... very nice. Even if it was a simple celebration, everything seemed in harmony! Garmore and Inra were telling Leo stories about past editions of the race that happened way before he had even been born while Tyrus and Caesar were telling Jazz how impressed they were when she swung that hammer and sent everyone forward. It was peaceful, entertaining and... victorious. It was a way of showing they had, in fact, won the race.
Liquid rushed to join his master and Inra to hear some of those stories, while Katherine just headed to the table to serve herself a shiny, green-colored substance. She stared at it for some seconds while she poured it in a jar. Was it even safe to drink this? Garmore seemed to be having it but... he seemed like he liked alcohol, so could this be...?
In any case, Katherine's green eyes scanned her surroundings. Would she find Ooi somewhere in this little celebration? It would make sense if Amy was still sleeping but, in all honesty, the teenager had gone down too quickly to even notice if her friend was still at the bedroom.

A sleeping Amelie. A busy Ooi. Nothing to write home about, at least until the moment of truth, if it could be called anything, was upon them. Or her, considering the former was still asleep. Mysteries were unfolded, explanations were given, and ultimately, words of encouragement were given to the former Candlemon. A discussion about the race was as good as any.
Overall, it was a peaceful day, and nothing out of the ordinary perturbed that peace that had ensued once the race was over. A happy gathering, that would only become happier as the time went on, even if... no less tiring. Alongside Liquid and Katherine, Ooi excused herself to take a well-deserved nap once lunch was over. The brunette's eyelids felt like pure lead; her body was sore, and she felt like she had been in the worst crash of known history. Yet, that wasn't enough to impede her eventual awakening.
She noticed that her arms had been wrapped around something that wasn't there anymore; somehow, her mind felt at ease in the wake of that image. It was yet another reason to be thankful for the events that had transpired today. Or yesterday? What did she know. It was pretty dark outside.
Amy stretched her arms as she began to push the bedsheets aside. Before her mind could elaborate on why she was on her pajamas, she noticed a small piece of folded paper by the nightstand.
My time's out; I had fun, but I gotta head back. Make sure to enjoy the victory party on my stead as well.
Typical. she didn't even need a signature to know who had written the message. Ultimately, that was okay; time to get changed and fix her look as much as she could in the smallest possible timeframe. To say the least, the all-out race and its outcome hadn't contributed a lot at keeping her appearance from becoming disheveled.
It'd take her a fair bit more time than Katherine or Liquid but, eventually, Amelie herself would descend towards the lake. She waved amicably at the group gathered there before approaching Curls' position. Browsing through the table at first, she picked up a bright orange cocktail. Just from the smell alone, she could make an educated guess regarding the ingredients of her glass.
"Apparently, Ooi busied herself and couldn't attend the celebration." She mentioned a bit offhandedly. "Girl's a bit of a busy bee for somebody as small as she is. Funny how this trip to the beach was supposed to last only one day and be a vacation from our daily lives, but ended being way longer than that, and not very relaxing."
The teenager smirked at her own words before taking a gentle sip. The before and after were definitely two very different images, yet... "But I'm fairly positive that she didn't regret the events that unfolded, except maybe missing the chance to kick that birdman's ass herself. I don't either, by the way. Or, maybe I do regret that last embarrassing display at the end of the race, but there isn't much that can be done about that."
Too many words; Amy was fairly sure that most of them weren't even important in the here and now. "So. What's up? You seem fairly pensive for somebody who should be in a merry mood. Penny for your thoughts?"

It definitely looked like Amelie knew what she was doing when she picked her own cocktail. Of course, if the reference was Katherine, then this was kind of an understatement. In any case, it was great to see she was up. The curly-haired girl offered an honest smile to her friend. “I’m glad you’re up already. But shouldn’t you be resting?”
Well, Ooi had departed. Saying the raven-haired girl's presence in all of this was a bit cryptic was unneeded. Even after a short, explicative conversation about the girl with Jazz, Katherine still held many doubts about Ooi. Those would have to wait.
“Birdman…?” Katherine muttered, almost inaudibly. “You mean Valkyrimon? How do you know about him?” Wasn’t the brunette already unconscious when the creature appeared? Maybe Ooi had told her about his approach. “It was not embarrassing. You put on an amazing amount of work during the whole race, so it was only natural. Besides…” The teenager’s green eyes went to Liquid, who was laughing alongside Inra and the rest of the Waru Team’s members, around the bonfire. If something somewhat akin to a happy ending existed, he had found it. “… You stuck to your word. We won, and you were completely right.” Even if she didn’t consider it had been ‘piece of cake’, at all. But there was no point in arguing about that, was it?
Katherine shook her head, slowly. “I am in a merry mood.” She replied. A pause ensued. If there was someone she could trust her worries to it was Amy, wasn’t it? “I guess… it just has to do with me almost dying earlier today. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you. Ebidramon wanted the gems and I'm almost sure that Valkyrimon, or Birdman as you called him, actually signed those guys in the race to win the gem. When he realized I had a gem already, they decided to just go for me, seeing they couldn’t win.” The time the green-eyed had dedicated to thinking about this and a chat with Jazz after lunch had been more than enough for her to reach these conclusions.
Why was she telling Amy all of this, though?
“I still find… weird, he hasn’t attacked Jazz and me to take the gems he knows we have. I am one hundred percent sure he’s stronger than us, because I met him before. Why is he letting me keep the gem I won on the race and the two other gems I already have?” Katherine’s eyes then met Amy’s blue irises. “Could it be he’s scared of you?” She asked. “After all, you did look very strong during the race.”
“I’ve heard about that guy before.” A manly voice startled Katherine a bit, approaching her from behind. Garmore raised a hand to greet Amelie. “Glad to see you’re up already, miss!” He took a look at the glass the girl was holding. “That’s one of my favorites! I think you’ll enjoy it. Even if it’s probable it knocks you back to sleep after two or three glasses!” The Nanimon finished his comment by laughing characteristically.
The shipwright turned to Katherine, to complement his initial comment. “At first, when you told me about him I had some trouble remembering, but I kept getting the feeling I had heard about that 'Dark Army' and a Valkyrimon that worked for them.” He handled an old newspaper to Katherine. “Apparently, the kid’s obsession for gathering every newspaper with news about the race is playing in your favor now.” He showed a smirk.
“The crime network going through Terminus and expanding through the Digital World.” Katherine read the heading of an article out loud.
“A journalist, who’s an old friend of mine, wrote that article years ago. She conducted an investigation through Terminus, even getting to the point of disguising herself as a provider to get inside their settlement.” The Nanimon noted. Katherine went on to read the whole thing. It was a very detailed article about a criminal organization with very strong influences around Terminus City. The same Amelie had mentioned before, the same they said was the center of the Digital World.
The teenager’s eyes widened up upon reading a certain group of sentences.
“After getting inside their hideout to deliver the package, which content I didn’t even know about, I got to meet one of their higher-rank members. A Valkyrimon that goes by the name of Luke. There, I heard the name they use to refer to their own group:...” Katherine heightened her own tone of voice, upon reading what was very much expected at this point. “… The Dark Army.”
There was no doubt. It had to be the same Valkyrimon. Katherine continued reading the article. It mentioned how the group kept growing exponentially and their scope was getting out of hands for the authorities. Then, again, something important was mentioned.
“One of the most recent big heists this group committed was stealing a gem that’s said to hold ancient power from the Terminus Museum of Art and Digital Patrimony.” The green-eyed lifted her gaze from the writing. “A Zoid Gem.” Her eyes went to Garmore, then to Amelie. The article finished with nothing else worth mentioning.
Still, this was more than enough. The Dark Army and that Valkyrimon had a gem already. And they were at Terminus.
“I must go there.”
Talk about reckless.
