The Great Binary Archipelago All Out Race [Kath/Amy][Career]

Taking advantage of the small gap of time Liquid had offered by leaving the room, Katherine replied to Amelie’s previous questions. –Well, to an extent, I’m kind of interested in many things. –A smile taking over the girl’s facial expression. –I tend to think that, if there’s something out there that I can know about and learn from it, I should take the time to study it somehow. –A brief pause took place, while the girl thought if what she had just said sounded not only doable but not utterly stupid. –I-I know that sounds dumb and it’s probably impossible but… -The girl quickly shook her head, trying to not ramble about something Amy hadn’t asked. –I do like science, a lot. But to be honest, that’s not what I see myself doing in the long term. –History, science, astrology, TV shows, literature, geography, you name it, Katherine had read at least something about it; so in the end, the girl knew at least a little about most stuff. –I just like to read lots of things about different subjects.
-Undying curiosity. –Jazz added to the girl’s final statement, arms crossed and nodding. Katherine blushing immediately. -Oh! That’s… -The girl looked away, kind of embarrassed to explain that special characteristic she and her digimon partner shared and treasured fondly. -… the never-ending desire of knowing everything a world has to offer… -Without never questioning if it’s possible or doable, only taking every opportunity you have to know more about it and explore it to it’s fullest. –Jazz finished her partner’s explanation. -That’s a… little thing we have. –Katherine added, still blushing. It was kind of embarrassing to share this concept with someone else, and it was the first time they have done it since they came up with it. Even when the phrase was sort of explicit enough, the duo had deepened in the concept of this quality they both had and had sworn to always stick together and live up to their ‘undying curiosity’. Hopefully, Amelie would understand the concept and wouldn’t think it was stupid or something.
It was an understatement they were going to be at some sort of danger during the race. The group had seen those evil crab-like digimon and the armed octopus that morning, and if to that you added Snake’s evil squad and Megaseadramon’s team, you completed a list of plenty tough-looking aquatic digimon competing. If precautions weren’t taken, they were going to end up sinking in the blink of an eye. -I suppose we could add some sort of defenses? –Materials to improve the boat couldn’t be seen around, but it was safe to assume Liquid would have some, right? Well, it was Liquid they were talking about, though. –We would have to be careful, though, we don’t want the boat to sink due to too much weight. –The girl tilted her head, right hand on her chin. The door to the dock was promptly opened.
-Okay, it’s done! –Liquid addressed the group with a smile, to then turn back to the hut for them to follow. Walking into the house, Katherine and Jazz actually remembered how hungry they were. On the table, some sort of very improvised dinner was served. Six plates rested over the board, they all had the same amount of food: a regular portion of meat with some sort of yellow sauce on top, some sort of purple salad on the side and slices of a green fruit. Next to every plate, a glass of a red juice could be found. Maybe it was the fact that they hadn’t eaten since that morning, but it all looked pretty damn yummy. -Liquid, is this for us? –Jazz asked, her eyes glimmering.
-Uh? Of course! –The candle replied. –I know it’s been a hard day for all of you, and I had all of this frozen food I bought for me inside the freezer, so I decided to heat it up and serve it to you, as a way of saying thanks! –His classical laugher followed his statement, his eyes then widening. -Oh! That’s right. I need to go look for the old man! –He added. –I usually get back to the warehouse on time to make him dinner, but now that we’re here… -That won’t be necessary kid. –Nanimon’s deep voice could be heard from outside, everyone turned at the door. -Old man!? –Liquid hopped to the door, opening it to find his master. The round bearded digimon was carrying a fairly large quantity of wood and metallic pieces, that he proceeded to get inside the house before greeting everyone. -It’s great to see you all here, girls. –He bowed at the group with a smirk. –Thanks for helping my apprentice with all of this. -Katherine and Jazz just smiled back, waving at the shipwright. -I was about to go and get you, old man. –Liquid promptly explained. –What are you doing here? -Well, I assumed that if you have gone to the warehouse earlier, it was probably because you needed some materials right?
Liquid raised an eyebrow. –You are actually right about that, but… -He then got closer to his master, applying some pressure into him with his stare. -…there has to be something else. Starting to sweat, Nanimon placed a hand on his back looking elsewhere. –Oh well… it was also kind of dinner time and you weren't around so I supposed you were going to eat here. -Yiiiaaayiayiayiayia! –Liquid burst up laughing. –Take a seat old man! Let’s eat!
“Finally”, both Katherine and Jazz thought. Having all of that food in front of them right now, after spending more than 10 hours without any, was definitely starting to become a torture. Once they all had taken a seat, they started eating. It was very good. Upon Katherine questioning, Liquid explained it was some frozen food he had bought at Whitewater not long ago, for him to eat while he worked on the boat. The meat had been grown there in Whitewater and the salad made from a purple vegetable known as ‘Lution’ that could only be grown in winter. The juice and slices of fruit were made from the fruits he couldn’t use for fuel.
-By the way… –Liquid stopped eating for a second to address the group. –I’m sorry I told you I didn’t have a boat when we first meet. –He started, obviously referring to the group of girls and Jazz. -To be honest, I don’t consider this boat completed at all, and I didn’t even know if it would work. That’s why I didn’t want to think I actually had a boat without testing it first. -Well, now that it has been tested, I think we can say we do have a boat. –Jazz took a bite of meat right after. -I guess you’re right, Jazz-sis! -A worried expression appeared on Liquid’s face. –I’m aware there are some improvements to be made before the race, but… -For the first time, it seemed like Liquid was actually acting shyly about something. -… I just wanted to know if I can count on you girls to help me. –He finished, a soft red tone could be seen on his face. Katherine giggled immediately after the candle finished. –I’ll totally help you out, Liquid. –The girl smiled kindly. After all, they were a team, right? –Of course, I really can’t speak for the rest, but I think Amelie and Ooi wouldn’t be here if they weren’t willing to help right? –She said, turning at the duo. -I’ll give it my best! –Jazz added, only to choke on a piece of meat after. Katherine helped her, giving her some juice.

That had been an interesting answer, Amelie had to say. A bit cryptic, even? But it wasn't like the intent wasn't clear, even if, overall, she found that way of thinking a little naive. But... everyone to their own. "Well, I guess that wanting to learn a little bit about everything that gets your interest is a noble goal; ever felt like that wasn't enough, however? Some subjects can be pretty deep, and I'd dare to say that they'd take months, if not years to study properly."The path of knowledge, more or less. Either know a lot about nothing, or know nothing about a lot of things; the brunette had to admit that didn't make it any less interesting or engaging, though. She then quirked an eyebrow at her peer dismissing science as a future career path. That was intriguing. "Then, if not science; what do you see yourself doing in the long term? Maybe it's a bit too early to ask what is your career of choice since you're still in high school, but I'd be frankly surprised if you haven't given it some thought already."She looked placidly at the exchange between the two partners while Ooi just stared, her face almost indistinguishable from the seal of a certain meme."It's an interesting ideal to live up to. I'd rather focus my brainpower on a few subjects at a time, but I can see the appeal of wanting to cover more ground, so to say. Hope you've been learning a lot of things on your travels thus far!"One thing was for certain, however; they'd have to be really good at maneuvering if they really intended to pilot a boat with defenses as frail as the ones currently displayed by this prototype. Or act as meat shields for any kind of damage going its way; it wasn't like Amy was picky. One thing was for certain, however. "If we're reinforcing the hull, we should definitely increase the weight this thing can stand. Jazz can evolve, right? Chances are that both her and me will have to evolve in order to fend off possible attacks from octopi or dragon shrimp... if you catch my drift."It wasn't really difficult to catch; Amelie felt that when it was an 'all-out' race, chances of things getting physical would be really likely! At least, she was aware that none of her forms (except Perfect, maybe) were top heavy, so there wouldn't be too many issues there. Not like they had too much time to talk about things, anyway! Soon enough, Liquid came back and gestured to the group; without much ado, they followed. Imagine how surprised both Amelie and Ooi were at the impromptu meal. Both teenagers smiled at the gesture, even though that expression was superceded by surprise at the Nanimon appearing, seemingly out of the blue. Talk about convenient, even though it wasn't like any of the two would complain! "It wasn't a big deal, ball-man!" Ooi addressed the old digimon informally. "Liquid can be a little handful at times, but he's def a hard worker. And hopefully a good cook too!" Of course, the shorter teenager didn't wait for the signal to sit and eat, and while Amelie was more respectful and waited, she couldn't but let out a small bout of laughter at the voraciousness that her peer displayed when facing the dish. Of course, the two of them listened to the Candlemon's words, even though they didn't take offense at the apparent 'lie' told by him; whether he had a boat or not wasn't something like mattered at this point. What mattered was whether he'd get their help or not, even though that —again— the answer to that query was fairly obvious. "I mean, we were the ones who said we'd help when everyone was trying to be a smartass, back when you were talking with the Delumon. Why would we change our opinion this far into the plan? That'd be kinda mean."Ooi herself was too busy to answer while munching, but she nodded energetically at her friend's words, then gulped down a good portion of the juice. "We're gonna win that race, you can take that for granted." There was an air of serene confidence —bordering cockiness, even— in the brunette's words. Almost as if she knew about something that nobody else did. That was kinda uncharacteristic of her, but it probably meant that she was going to be serious about this? No way to know.

Listening closely to Amelie’s take on her words, Katherine couldn’t help but feel like what she had already felt since she met the brunette was true: This girl was something else. –You’re completely right. But… -She continued. –It’s not much of a choice, you see? If I start knowing more about something I can’t stop, but I also can’t choose to study some stuff and not others. –It sounded weird, but Katherine was a knowledge-eating machine, without a defined route. –It’s like I just read and investigate about the first thing I find; until I’m satisfied and then stumble into another. –To be honest, the girl felt kind of silly explaining this that way, but she felt like she could trust Amelie would know how to handle such a vague explanation.
Katherine then nodded at Amelie’s question. –Yes, there’s a career I'm interested in taking. –The girl answered firmly. –I want to be a fashion designer. –Since years ago, the girl had been drawing clothes sketches and models, it was something she had a lot of fun doing and sort of made her happy. She could only think of how excited she would be to see one of her designs actually made a reality with a model wearing them, or even wearing them herself. She had heard from one too many teachers before that sort of career was a waste of her intellect, but she couldn’t care less. The brunette firmly believed every branch of knowledge is important, and none of them should be misprized.
Jazz tilted her head at Amelie’s statement. –That we would have to… evolve? –She was fine with she having to evolve but the bunny seemed rather confused at Amelie’s statement about she evolving. Katherine then realized Jazz wasn’t around when Amelie explained everything about those humans that could evolve into digimon. Before the conversation could go on, though, Liquid had interrupted them, and now they were sitting at his table.
-Last place-sis… -Liquid muttered, his eyes widening at the brunette’s statement, showing her commitment to the race. Katherine and Jazz’s eyes glimmered at the girl’s confident way of talking. Maybe it was Amy’s words, but some sort of excitement ran through Katherine’s body; this was going to be awesome! The candle then took the last bite of food and bowed to the whole table. –Thank you very much for all of your help, sisters! –He immediately said. Katherine smiled at the waxy digimon. Liquid had a dream and was willing to work hard, to be humble and to be grateful towards his friends, all while he looked to accomplish that dream. How was that less than admirable? Even if the kid had a quirky attitude.
-I know we can improve the boat greatly with all the materials the old man brought! –He added, smiling. –And we should start right…! –Suddenly, the small face the ball of fire over the candle’s head had, who usually had Liquid’s same facial expression, started to look tired, almost closing its eyes. The candle let go a big yawn. –I’m sorry… I’m just… -Another yawned followed. Even though worried at first, Katherine then only chuckled at the candle’s change of mood. It had been a long day no doubt, so it was only logical for him to be exhausted.
Jazz chuckled too. –Liquid, you’re all worn out… -But the bunny’s sentence was interrupted by her own yawning. -Well, you must be fairly tired too, Jazz. –The brunette said, smiling at her partner too. –I think we should call it a day, everyone. –It sure was a little risky to take the night off, since that would leave them only with tomorrow to work. But it didn’t make any sense too overwork right now, that could cost them at the race since they needed to be at a 100%. They had formed the team, reunited the 4 fruits (which was the hardest task of them all, no doubt) and tested the boat in just one day, so they couldn’t say they had been lazing around. –Tomorrow, we can wake up early to start working on the boat. –The girl suggested. Jazz nodded, yawning again. A loud snore could be heard already, coming from the table. Nanimon was out for good. Which was sort of weird since he didn’t seem like he did much, but who was Katherine to judge.
-Okay, Beer Flag Team, then let’s give it our best! –Liquid replied, trying to recover his usual hyperactive self, but failing at it. -…Tomorrow. –He added, with a sleepy expression. –There’s a big room upstairs with some beds. –The candle explained as he hopped towards the stairs. –You can sleep there once you feel like resting. –He added. –You can leave the old man there; he sleeps pretty much anywhere. Good night, everyone. Yia, yia… yia… yia… -Liquid hopped up the stairs, leaving shorts and sleepy ‘Yias’ like he was trying to do his usual laugher but was too tired to accomplish. Katherine then turned at Nanimon, who seemed to be sleeping comfortably. It was sort of a relief they could leave him there since he seemed rather heavy.
-I’m going to go and put Jazz to bed. –The brunette stated, getting up the table, and carrying Jazz in both arms, whose looks were not too different from Liquids. Katherine didn’t feel as tired herself, but then again, she didn’t have to run for her life from a giant tortoise today, so it wasn’t hard to see why Jazz was the most exhausted out of the two. The girl carried the bunny and went up the stairs. She found, as Liquid said, a big room with 8 beds, 4 on each side of the room. Liquid was already sleeping, tucked in on one of the 4 to the left side. The flame on his head had lowered its intensity greatly, and for some reason, it wasn’t burning the pillow even though being in contact with it. Katherine assumed then that it worked sort of like Roff’s flame body, the Meramon they met at Rustport, who could control if their flames burnt or not. The girl couldn’t help to wonder why Liquid had so many beds if he was working on this boat by himself all along, as she placed Jazz in one of the beds and tuck her in. –I’m proud of you. –The girl muttered.
Katherine went down the stairs again and got out of the house to take some fresh air. The moon was beautiful that night, laying its white light over the surface of the lake. The brunette then turned her gaze back to the house, wondering if Amelie had gone to sleep too. She felt like they two had a lot of things to talk about. She had so much to ask her.

Something that she couldn't control... well, that definitely sounded like something that could backfire at any moment, in all honesty! At least according to the saying 'curiosity killed the cat'. Even Amelie could admit that there are subjects she'd rather not delve into. But... it wasn't like she was going to criticize somebody for their ideology, or for something they essentially couldn't control, so she just let the topic pass.
Somehow, that description seemed oddly... familiar, but the brunette decided to not think about that for the moment; better to just focus on what was important! Like Katherine deciding she wanted to be a fashion designer; that was pretty cool! "Oh, wouldn't have guessed that on the slightest! Sounds like a pretty nice career path. And, well, you know; if you ever become the next Coco Chanel and you need a model, don't doubt on calling me!"
Of course, that statement was followed with a bout of good-natured laughter, even though Ooi's own eyes gleamed just a bit at the presented notion of being a model? Maybe a dream of hers? No way to know!
And, to be honest, statements about boat integrity and fighting against demonic lobsters or octopi weren't really a place to be right now; the entire day had been exhausting on its own way. Better if they just enjoyed the rest of their day, their meal, and had a good night of rest for tomorrow. They'd have to work a lot, after all.
She found it honestly weird that Liquid continued thanking them after they had repeated over and over again that they'd help but... she didn't mind it, in all honesty. Slowly, she waved those words off...
Even if Ooi took the chance to speak up. "Don't worry! I can't wait to kick everyone's asses and win that cup, then get the gem, then go partying or something! It'll be great." Of course, things wouldn't be that easy, but that was the mindset everyone should have.
It seemed like the tiredness currently floating in the air was contagious; Ooi let out a yawn of her own as soon as Jazz finished with hers. As everyone began to abandon the table in order to get into the comfort of their beds, the short teen asked a question that maybe was a bit unfitting for the home of a living candle. "Do you have a shower in here? After running who knows how many meters in order to escape an angry turtle, I feel like I kinda need to get rid of this sweat. It feels a bit... gross, tbh."
Hopefully, she'd get a response, but even if she didn't get one, the two friends would eventually be the only two occupants of the room. Or, well, at least the only two who were awake. Liquid had gone to sleep, the Nanimon was sleeping too, and Katherine had gone to tuck Jazz, and probably sleep on her own too.
Promptly, the shorter girl extended her hand in her friend's direction, an open palm waiting. She knew all too well what was about to happen. "I'll leave it by the nightstand if there's one. If not... look under the bed. Don't worry; I know you have a lot in your mind."
Mustering a somewhat dubious expression, Amelie brought a rubik dodecahedron and handed it to Ooi. "Take good care of it. And have a good night. Sleep well and stuff."
The dark-haired girl just winked, then smiled a bit impishly. "You too. Good night." Only one thing was for certain, however! Katherine wasn't looking at the right direction if she wanted to talk with Amelie; the girl was already outside, and was currently laying near the lake's shore, her expression thoughtful as she gazed at the moon intently. Maybe she'd have to look better?

On her way down, while she walked the stairs to the first floor, Katherine had found Ooi about to go up. –Oh, Ooi. –Katherine turned at the short girl. –I saw a bathroom next to the big room, there’s a shower in there. –The girl said with a smile, to the girl with a clear sleepy countenance. –Have a good night, Ooi. -She then added, with a lower tone.
After noticing there was no one left inside the house except for the big Nanimon, still snoring and sleeping comfortably over the table, the brunette proceeded to turn the lights off. She then turned at her backpack, still laying on the ground. She opened it, took her digivice out and then headed outside again. The weather was sort of cold, for a jungle, at least. The night was as starry as it could get, small paths of what seemed to be data, traveled through the sky, along with some small stars glimmering in the sky. This world definitely had shown the girl some landscapes and scenarios she had never witnessed back in the human world. How long was it? She started thinking. She had been keeping a record of every day inside the Digital World, so it was almost a month and a week since she had arrived. –Earth... time… -The brunette muttered. There was so much stuff she still didn’t know about the Digital World, about digimon. Was she losing time here? No. She had learned so much today too! The girl shook her head, trying to take these thoughts off her head. Upon raising her gaze and looking back at the lake, she now saw Amelie. She was just lying there, looking straight into the sky. The moonlight bounced off her skin and outlined her features, also lighting up her blue dress, while a soft breeze moved her dark as night hair slowly. Katherine just stared at Amelie for some seconds, all kinds of thoughts traveling through her head, from what was she doing there and if she wanted to be alone to the recurring thought of what kind of digimon the girl could transform into. Maybe she would be a great model for Katherine’s designs, after all, the girl thought, chuckling at the idea immediately after, thinking how odd it would be for her to ask Amelie to try the clothes she designed, and also feeling kind of glad by the fact that Amelie didn't immediately dismiss the career she liked, as everyone else tended to do. The girl slowly walked towards the brunette with a taciturn expression.
-You don’t feel like sleeping right now either? –Katherine asked, tilting her head, looking at her friend. –Can I take a seat here? –The brunette asked. If Amelie agreed on it, she would sit next to her, right by the lake. –During my whole life, I’ve tended to associate something beautiful with something I fully understand. –She explained. –I think something’s beauty is truly appreciated when you fully understand something or how it works. I even think that can even be extrapolated to a person. –There she was, talking a bit too much about her odd way of thinking. –But I somehow find the Digital World so beautiful, even though I don’t fully understand most of it.
-Amy… -Katherine turned at the girl, while the moonlight now bounced over both of them. –You mentioned you have been at the Digital World for over 6 months, right? –The girl changed her expression to a reflective one. –But then you said… Earth time. –The girl then waved her hands dismissively. –I mean, you don’t have to tell me, I know I can be annoying with all of these questions but… -She continued. -… what did you mean? –She asked.

On her way upwards, Ooi encountered Katherine once again, probably after she was finished tucking Jazz into her bed; the dark-haired teenager responding to her words with a small smile. "Thanks. I swear that if I went to sleep smelling like this, I'd probably regret it for my entire life. Or something like that; I'll just go and shower up. Have a good night!"
Having said that, she just went into the bathroom without a second thought; Kath would probably be able to hear the sound of the shower being turned on before exiting the place, even! What about Amelie, then? Her body just relaxed as it took the gentle breeze currently. Her thoughts were a bit swirly at the moment, but they were mostly focused on Deeplane, and on how this small detour in order to relax for a day had ended in an unexpected detour. And on how this would take way more time than initially planned. The brunette knew that singlemindedly focusing on the city's construction to the point of tunnel vision wasn't exactly healthy for her, but she just couldn't avoid worrying at times. Sure, Rinji and the others were there too, but did she really have the right to rest for three days when they were all working and giving their best? To say that the teenager was unsure about it was... an understatement.
Luckily for her peace of mind, Katherine's voice broke her reverie before it could become self-destructive. "I'm not sleepy." The girl simply replied. "Sure, as long as you don't decide to sit on top of me or something like that, feel free."
Hopefully, that'd be taken as what it was; a joke to 'break the ice' so to say! Her fellow brunette's presence brought a small smile to Amy's face; if anything, talking about her queries would move her thoughts away from their current place. She listened attentively to the younger girl's worlds, even though she couldn't help but chuckling a bit at them.
"I think that the concept of fully understanding anything is naive at best, but don't mind me." She said, her voice serene and her eyes still affixed in the moon. "I agree there's a certain appeal on discovering what makes things tick, however. But there's also appeal in a mystery yet to be uncovered, don't you think so? There's a reason why humans are always in the pursuit of the unknown, I think... But that's my romantic side speaking; I usually don't pay much attention to it."
Had she gone on a tangent? It was probably for the best to rein the topic back to its right course. "The Digital World is impossible to fully understand. I can assure you that much; it's a living organism that constantly changes and evolves, and what you thought was true today might be false tomorrow. And I think that's a good deal of its appeal, if you ask me."
The pair probably wouldn't come on an agreement when their ideas were so diametrically opposed, but that was fine. Being different, yet being able to discuss those topics in a civil manner were among the few pleasures of civilized society. However, they had to move on. Apparently, Katherine was interested in one of the comments she made earlier.
Time. The most precious commodity, wasn't it? The brunette hummed while her peer elaborated on her question, finally dismissing her concerns with her hand. "You talk to me as if I were a stranger or something, you know? I'm not gonna charge you or anything for asking questions. I've mentored at least... seven or so novice digidestined thus far; I'm used to this, and I don't mind it, frankly."
She made a small pause, before tackling the question proper. "Take you've never been... back to the Human World after you arrived in here? Because time works differently in both worlds; specifically, it flows faster in the Digital World than in the Human World. Roughly, for each week that passes in here, only one day goes by on the other side. Simple as that."
Considering that Katherine wasn't aware of something as basic as this, Amy continued with the obvious follow-up. "If you have any more questions about this... or about anything at all, you should ask them now, honestly. It's not like you'll have me sitting beside you with nothing better to do every day."
That last comment had been said a bit jokingly, but that was just to make the atmosphere a little bit lighter!

Even though a dreamer, Katherine was capable of giving herself a reality check every now and then. She was the first to understand some of her objectives towards certain things could be naïve at best, and probably impossible at worst. This wouldn’t stop her though, she had already held back one too many times at life before going into the Digital World, so she was going to follow her instincts and try to have the best of fun out of it, and she was clearly having that right now.
-I know it is, and I know you’re right. –The girl explained to her peer. –But you know? I recently decided to stop thinking about the goal so much, and started enjoying the ride. –She added with a smile, to then scratch the back of her head adding one extra explanation. –I-I’m not talking about something like the race! Of course, I’m focusing on the goal in that one. –The girl giggled right after.
-Your romantic… side? –Katherine tilted her head, looking at the girl. She realized up to this point she had been looking at Amelie like a mentor more than like a friend, when she was a regular girl, with about as much questions about everything as herself. Just, much fewer questions than her regarding the Digital World. It was logical for Katherine to think of Amelie as a ‘digital mentor’, but maybe she should start thinking more about her as her ‘human friend’. In all honesty, Amelie was only the third person Katherine actually got to meet inside the Digital World and she had never been very good at making friends. But then, a thought crossed her head: Why not try something different? If she had taken a different life philosophy upon entering this world, why not take a different stance towards making friends? Why not just try being herself? The brunette could feel how her once tense shoulders relaxed, as she had loosened up a weight from them. She then chuckled at the girl’s statement, going back into the conversation. –You should pay attention to it more often, Amy! –The girl replied. –What if its eager to get out and you’re just holding it back? Plus… -She made a pause, placing her index finger in her lower lip, thinking about everything the girl had just said. -… It seems like your romantic side can throw some really poetry-like sentences.
-Always evolving, huh? –The girl then turned back at the lake, observing the majestic landscape the Digital World was offering to them that night. –Then that makes it only more fun to explore. –Katherine then lowered her gaze sighing as Amelie told her what she had already realized. She was putting the girl in a pedestal just because she knew so much more about the Digital World than her and had been treating her like a mentor more than like a friend. –I’m sorry… -She said, knowing she hadn't been herself. She had been treating Amelie as if she was a teacher at school. Of course, like any student, she treated those nicely and was well-mannered in front of them; but she didn’t act quite as she would act in front of a friend, she wasn’t herself.
Her way of treating Amy was about to change, forever. The girl took the decision in that exact same instant. –It is amazing you have mentored so many ‘digidestined’. –The girl said, assuming that was the word she used to refer to humans that had traveled into the Digital World and had some sort of relationship with digimons or could become a digimon. Katherine then shook her head. –But this is different… -She added. –Cause you and I are not mentor and apprentice. –The girl continued, blushing slightly. –You and I are friends. –She then raised her looks at her, a small grin showing, still in her shy, blushed face.
What came next, definitely qualified to be one of the most important reveals Katherine had received since her journey started. –W-what? –The girl then got awfully close to Amelie. –Is that true, Amy!? Are you serious!? –The girl still couldn’t believe it. Even though Talia had prepared that fake letter for her, one of the things that had Katherine the most worried was that her parents could be really worried for her, for where she was during this month. The girl then raised her gaze to think. –That means… -The girl then reached the mathematical conclusion. –...I’ve only been 4 days away from home right now! That’s great! –The girl squealed, excited. Four days was not enough for her mom and dad to start doubting the letter sent by Talia was real. She was safe! That was definitely one of the best news Katherine could have received.
After calming herself down and giving her personal space back to Amy (without apologizing this time, even though she thought about doing it for a second, she was done acting like Amelie was some stranger), the girl shook her head. –I’ve never been back to the real world. I’ve been trapped here since I entered. –Since Amelie left the door open for another question, the girl then tackled the obvious one. –What’s the way of coming back? I once heard something about a train station but… -The girl frowned, remembering Tripmon didn’t give many details about it, back at Rustport. -… I don’t know what’s the Trailmon you’re supposed to take for that. –She added. She wasn’t planning on going back soon, much less now that her worries about her status back at the human world have banished; but still, of course, it was a very important piece of info knowing how to go back for when she needed it.
-I know I can’t be of much help regarding Digital World information, not that you need much of that either. -Katherine started. –But… Is there something you want to ask me, Amy? It can be anything, for real. –The girl added. If she was going to be treating Amelie as a real friend this time, she was willing to open to her, even though that wasn’t something she usually did.

This almost seemed like their conversation from before all over again, in all honesty! Was that bad? Probably, since a casual onlooker could probably say that the two girls had the equivalent to a goldfish's memory; but that was fine! It had been a long day, and while not sleepy, it was likely that the pair was relatively tired. That's what being after some fruits, testing a boat and solving riddles/being terrified of insects usually entailed, after all!
Humming affirmatively, Amy continued."Yeah, most of the time, it's the journey what counts when going from A to B; one could say that's what makes us grow as people... or beings, in the digimons' case. Even though... you know?" For several seconds, the brunette's gaze shifted from the moon, her eyes staring deep into Katherine's ones. A rare, half satisfied, half happy smile began to tug at the corner of her lips. "Even if our chances of losing the race are next to zero, I wouldn't be too sad if we did; because getting there involved meeting and becoming friends with you and... Jazz, you know? I could call that my most worthwhile achievement of the whole week. Even if Liquid is a bit insufferable at times, I've had a lot of fun thus far."
Truthfully, this has already been more fruitful than a good deal of her endeavors in the Digital World; most of them just involved meeting random people, chatting or doing random/menial tasks with them for a length of time, then parting ways and —more of often than not— never seeing them ever again. This was different.
Still, it wasn't characteristic of her to feel sentimental all of sudden! Maybe it had to do with her so-called 'romantic' side? Maybe it was just the stress that building a whole city in a place that wasn't the nicest neighborhood carried. What did she know, honestly.
Her gaze went back to the moon, her expression shifting to thoughtful again, even if she snickered a bit at her friend's words. "I'm not gonna lie. My romantic side is a pile of hot trash." She paused for a second, mostly due to her own laughter impeding her speech. "I'm probably saying something that's glaringly obvious, but I'm a pragmatist at heart. And while romantic or idealistic thoughts find their way inside my brain every now and then, they're just episodes, not something I tend to entertain super often."
She made a small pause, but finally finished her sentence with a bit of a stern expression. "No matter your stance, the world will find a way to chew on your ideas and ideals as if they were a worthless piece of trash. I know it sounds boring, but I'd rather save myself the risk, especially when the payoff isn't that great."
Was that a hypocritical sentence, when it came from somebody who was currently striving to complete something that seemed completely idealistic in paper? The answer was... a definite maybe.
Enough with Amelie exposing her way of thinking, however. If Katherine had managed to not be bored to death about her slightly pessimistic speech, discussing how the Digital World was an essentially mercurial place seemed like a more entertaining topic, anyway. Or how the girl found the need to... apologize, for some reason? Immediately, the brunette waved the apology dismissively, her expression shifting to an entertained grin. "No need to. You look like the type that tends to be a bit awkward and formal around others, so I kind of understand, even though... I find it funny when you're talking with somebody who's pretty much wearing a swimsuit under a summer dress at the moment. I couldn't be less intimidating even if I tried to, I feel."
Said by the same person who had stared down a Tortomon that same day! Those words had some teasing undertones on them, but they were mostly said on good fun. One thing was true, however; her friend's smile was infectious. "You've got that one right, though. We're friends, and I hope we remain that way for a long time. But that doesn't mean I can't help you by virtue of being more experienced than you on this matter, you know?"
Even if essentially shy, her fellow brunette seemed to be a pretty physical person, even going as far as to come awkwardly close to her after what Amy assumed was a happy revelation. Funny how something that simple could make somebody so happy. "Yup. Why I'd joke about something like that? I guess it's a relief if you hadn't returned to your home in... a month or so; considering you're a high schooler, I'm sure your parents would've been worried sick. And that's... to say the least."
Being French, it wasn't like the teenager minded her personal space being invaded by a friend, or even physical shows of friendship/affection, but she could discern for a second that maybe that had made Katherine feel a bit awkward? Getting a chuckle out of that, she proceeded to tackle the next question. "You wanna go back? You either go to Terminus' special platform and board a train there. Or..."
Nonchalantly, she brought out her D-Tector and after fiddling with it some, a circle of energy appeared five meters or so above them. It'd shine faintly for approximately thirty seconds before disappearing. "You could just ask me. I can get you wherever you want in an instant. Human World included."
Had that been a show of cockiness? Pretty much; Amy could be a bit of a showoff at times, but there was nothing wrong with that when hanging with somebody young and impressionable, right? She had to admit that the question that followed had caught her off-guard, however. Asking Katherine anything, huh? For a second, Amelie's mind danced with the possibilities, even though... she settled for something deceptively simple.
She took a deep breath. "When you said you're my friend... you meant it? I know it sounds like a fishy question, but the truth is... one could say I'm not a good person." That statement was said as if it were a plain truth; in a matter-of-factly way, and without any kind of hard emotion attached to it. "And the truth is that I have no regrets about what I did or I do. I know it sounds cryptic and needlessly complex, but I'd rather spare you the details. Figured you should know before you grow too attached to me."
A mirthless laugh ensued. Those words had seemingly been thrown rather lightly, but there was an underlying weight on them for sure.

It was hard to not put deep thought into everything Amelie said. Especially for someone like Katherine, who tended to over-analyze stuff that was thrown at her every time she could. The girl could also see why she previously had trouble seeing her peer as a friend more than as a mentor; her way of speaking was so mature, so reflexive. She could learn from Amelie just by listening to her talk. Katherine couldn’t help but let a smile take over her lips when the girl mentioned how happy she was of having met her and Jazz. Then she passed to remember how Jazz laughed very impolitely at Ooi falling that morning. For some reason, it seemed like that had been days ago, while only hours have spent. It didn’t seem necessary to give any impressions about Jazz, even though she could come up as rude sometimes, she had probably already proven she meant well. Liquid, on the other side, Katherine had noticed Amelie wasn’t at the same page with the candle’s way of acting. –Liquid is… the most complex digimon I’ve met so far. –And who could blame Amy, really? The guy had acted both very nicely and very recklessly a couple of times already. –I can tell he’s been alone for quite a while. He’s quirky and doesn’t know how to deal with people because he hasn’t had any friends ever. –The girl sighed, immediately after, noticing how that sounded awfully like her. –Heck, maybe he and I are very alike, now that I think about it. –The girl added, lowering her gaze, in a sad manner.
-That’s not true. –Katherine replied to Amelie’s negative insight, shaking her head. –And I think this romantic side of you feels the same. –The girl continued, rising her view, looking straight into Amelie’s eyes. –You may think that, but you’re not always saving yourself the risk. Why would you say we’ve got next to zero chances of losing the race if not? You know very well that, theoretically, competing in an all-out race full of gigantic sea digimon willing to crush us inside a small boat lead by a digimon who will literally extinguish if he touches the sea puts our chances of losing highly above zero. –The girl explained, firmly. –Now don’t get me wrong, I also think that we’re going to win, Amy. But I’m willing to admit that’s my romantic side speaking, because that’s not a realist take on it –The girl continued. She having the courage to say all of this to Amelie was a clear showing that her attitude towards the girl had changed. –I know that one part of me believes if you try very hard, you can stop the world from chewing on your ideals. Just like we’re going to stop that giant dragon-lobster from chewing on us. –She then made a pause, tilting her head at her friend with a smile. –Maybe you should start to accept some part of you thinks the same, too.
Granted, this reading Katherine had just made of Amelie based on what she said about they winning the race could be completely wrong. It was a prompt analysis that led her to think she knew how a part of Amelie really thought; but truth be told, it could just be that Amelie had some super-awesome aquatic evolution that was also a bunker and would take them safely to the goal, being that the reason why she was so sure they were going to win. Even knowing this reading of the girl was probably mistaken, she decided not to apologize for it. Part of treating Amelie like a friend meant to stop being scared of making mistakes in front of her.
Speaking about reading, Amelie had pulled a very much simpler but also very much righter reading of the girl. Yeap, that was her, extremely awkward and shy when dealing with people. The girl then chuckled at Amy’s statement. –Well, I think you look cute. And that could be as intimidating as it gets for some. –Katherine lowered her gaze, looking at Amelie’s blue dress. –And I’m the one who knows about fashion, so trust me, I would know. –She concluded her statement with a wink, in an obvious teasing tone. Her eyes then widened, knowing that even though she had asked her a lot about Digital World stuff, she didn’t know much about her friend as a girl, more than as a tamer. –I never asked, Amy… How old are you? –She asked, looking at the girl. –Are you a high school student too, or…? –The girl let her question opened, hoping her peer would interrupt to answer.
Then, when Katherine thought Amelie couldn’t be more amazing Digital World-wise, the brunette opened up a portal out of thin air, stating she could go back to the real world through there. The girl’s eyes widened as she stared at the glowing circle of energy just above them. –T-that’s… amazing! Can all of those digivice do that? Could mine do it? –The girl asked, still staring at the portal until it closed, then shaking her head. –I’m not at all interested in going back now, but if I ever need to, I’ll try to keep you close, then. –She added with a smile.
–Terminus… -The girl then muttered. She had heard some bandits mentioning that place before during her adventure alongside Miyu. The largest city of the Digital World. Katherine knew for sure her trip would take her there someday.
Even though her friend had just literally opened an interdimensional portal in front of her by just messing with her digivice, what came later was the most surprising thing of the whole conversation for Katherine. Even if she couldn’t tell for sure, Amelie seemed to be showing some sort of insecurity, which wasn’t something she had seen in the girl during any of the conversations they had previously had. Amelie always seemed so sure of herself, so confident towards everything happening around her, seeing her doubting about someone's sentiments of friendship towards her was impressive, to say the least. After giving back a short shocked countenance, Katherine quickly answered, without even stopping to think, surprisingly even for her.
-Of course I meant it! –The teenager replied, firmly. –We definitely have different points of view towards multiple things so far, Amy. And I’m sure we’re going to have them towards many more in the future, but even if it comes a time when I don’t understand what you do or what you’ve done… -The girl made a brief pause, closing her eyes with a smile. –I will think the best of you. –After a moment of silence, the girl spoke again to add something. –Plus… -She turned back at the moon. -… I’m convinced we’re really not that different. –The girl genuinely felt like they both had a side they had trouble admitting they had, being for Katherine her pragmatic, pessimistic self, and for Amelie her romantic, optimistic roundabout.

Many words and arguments could be exchanged about Liquid's intentions, or, overall, on how he handled himself around others and his overall personality; for Amelie, however? She had a pretty clear opinion regarding the matter.
"Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Liquid, even though he has the talent to be really obnoxious at times. And... I can say that there's one key difference between you and him; Liquid seems like a very straightforward digimon, but he constantly had us... chasing after something which its purpose we weren't entirely aware of. We didn't know why we visited Nanimon until we got there, or why the fruits were necessary until we gathered them." She made a pause, sighing with slight exasperation. "When somebody's constantly withdrawing information from you, it usually means they don't trust you, you know? Just put that on top of Liquid appearing as a straightforward digimon when the truth couldn't farther from it. Not something that rubs me the right way, but what can I say? Besides expecting at least for you to remain straightforward with me, not much."
That's why the brunette wasn't big on Liquid, and why she considered her fellow teenager a friend so quickly; trust was the basis of any relationship and... if something as simple as that can't be present, what can you expect, besides a temporary affiliation at the very best? "And if you're worrying about it, don't; I'm still helping you all to win the race. It'd be a bit hypocritical if I didn't stick to my promise after that speech, wouldn't it?" Besides, doing this was probably more for Katherine's sake than for Liquid's. Getting the gem seemed way more important than an old grudge, even though she had to admit that this was probably more convenient than any method they could've used.
With that topic hopefully over, they shifted to the next, and how Kath seemed to be adamant on defending Amy's romantic side, going as far as to give a somewhat convincing explanation, but prompting nothing more than a chuckle from the latter. "You can call me overconfident, reckless or even cocky if you want to, but the truth is that I believe we'll win the race no matter what. It may be a close finish? Maybe, but us being the winners is definitely out of question; I think you're confusing possible contingencies with an alteration in the result, and I couldn't disagree more with that."
Katherine couldn't be blamed about this, though. She couldn't see the full picture as clearly as Amy saw it at the moment. "Rather than overestimate our opponents and look at the shortcomings of our team, why not do the opposite? Maybe then you'll understand I don't feel like there's a realistic possibility of us losing; romantic thoughts have nothing to do with that, except maybe me expressing genuine desire to help a friend without any personal gain involved. But that's where they end."
Nope, Amelie was stubborn as a mule, and maybe some more; at least right now, she didn't seem to want to part ways with her way of thinking, and honestly? That was fine; sometimes, two diametrically opposed stances clashed, and as long as there weren't any hard feelings afterward, things could go on just like they were. Agreeing was nice, but still just optional.
Now, the taller teenager could say that she was a bit surprised at the comment that followed next. A compliment about her appearance, huh? In what seemed like a bit of a sudden motion, her body jerked up a bit, fixing itself on an unconventional position, her face suddenly a mere ten or so centimeters away from Katherine's. "Thanks. That's such a nice thing to say, you know? Except the part about me being intimidating, even though that Tortomon probably agrees with you." Slowly, her hand reached towards Katherine, beginning to tuck a strand of hair behind her left ear, uncovering it momentarily as Amy moved closer; enough to directly whisper into it. "You know what? I think you look cute too."
Her voice had been sweet and gentle, a total contradiction compared to how suddenly the brunette jerked back to her previous position. "But not as much as me, of course!" A bout of laughter ensued, and the teenager found herself once again laying face up on the sand. "I'm seventeen, by the way. Currently majoring architecture in Shibuya's university; and constructing my very own city, while at it!"
Yup, a total show-off, even though that was to be expected. "How about you? I know you're in high school, and I'd wager that you're close to graduating, but those aren't hard facts. Mind sharing?"
Of course, topics went and came; it was a bit expected for the shorter teenager to ask about the portals after that small demonstration. But that was fine; the brunette could explain the specifics. "Your digivice should be able to do that, and a lot more things, but... not by default; the place that sells all the cool add-ons is in Terminus, so you gotta have both money and travel there if you wanna acquire them. But at least I can say that they're really handy to have, and that they're worth every bit they cost. Maybe we could even shop together someday! Wouldn't that be nice?" And, well, probably this was an opportune time to exchange contact information given... "I tend to travel from one world to another quite a bit. Take you have a D-Terminal? If you need for me for anything, or if it's even just to chat, you could always send me a message or something!"
It was funny, how something like that could eventually conclude on that last question. Truthfully, Amelie figured that stating her true nature and how that would get her new friend into more than one problem and/or emotional dilemma seemed like a fitting and fair warning. In a sense, it was heartwarming how that call to caution had been dismissed so easily, but, at the same time, it was a bit concerning. Not like the brunette was anybody to judge it, however.
"Fair enough." For a brief moment, she mustered a genuine smile. "Don't say I didn't warn you first, though. It'd be a real shame if you decided to change your mind midway through. But, for now... I think we should focus on winning the race; we'll probably figure what's next afterward."
She remained wide awake, but... maybe it was time for them to go back? "How are you feeling? Still not sleepy?"

Trying to hide everything Amelie’s words had shaken inside of her, was probably the hardest thing Katherine had to face that day, and that was saying a lot. Neither the giant tortoise or the awful insects have moved inside the brunette the kind of things the teenager had moved with her words. It was crushing, painful indeed, especially because she was right, without even knowing it. Katherine already knew this about Liquid, she knew he was hiding many things from them. The fact that her friend was actually standing up for her, when she was exactly the same that the candle, simply broke her heart. She now regretted her way of acting during her whole life, but at the same time, she thought she couldn't act differently. She just wanted to cry now.
-I think you’re right. –The girl simply said, smiling. –I actually think the same. I can’t disagree with anything of what you just said. –Crisis adverted, seemingly? That answer should be enough to leave that topic be. Any other mentioning of it would make the girl burst to tears.
The topic about the race made Katherine only think that there was a huge gap between the understanding Amelie had about the Digital World compared to hers. She could try, she could give it a big chunk of trying, but she still couldn’t see how they had no chances of losing. –Do the opposite…? –The girl muttered, raising her gaze and giving it some deep thought. Underestimating their opponents and thinking about their shortcomings? That didn’t seem like a good idea for her. First of all, she had absolutely no reason to underestimate them and she couldn’t think of any shortcomings they had! Maybe Amelie meant overestimating themselves and thinking about the Beer Flag Team's strong points? The first part didn’t seem like a good idea either, but Amelie could scare off a giant digimon with just her gaze, so that was definitely a point on their sheet.
Now, being because she had almost zero knowledge of her friend’s or Ooi’s skills or because she was completely unaware of what could be their opponent’s weaknesses; the truth was Katherine couldn’t really reach her friend’s position about the race right now, and that was just fine. In the end, they both thought they were going to win, and that was the bottom line, so no point in arguing about it. Nevertheless, this topic had raised her awareness that she should ask Liquid whatever he knew about the TOXIC team, that giant sea-serpent-like creature or the evil-looking octopus-lobster team, whatever their name was.
Katherine’s train of thought about the race had reached his final destination and wasn’t moving any further now. Why? Well, the brunette had something more important to think about just now, like Amelie’s suddenly having moved towards her, being awfully close, only centimeters away from her face. Being the Japanese culture as coy as it was, people didn’t tend to get that close to someone unless they had some type of close friendship or… something else. Was their relationship like that? Were they that close friends? Maybe not, maybe there was something else; something she had noticed since she met her and judging by her name: Amelie was not Japanese. That would explain why, just like Katherine, she had no trouble getting physically close to someone if she needed to. This was different, though. It had been years since Katherine had someone this close to her, definitely never happened during the two years she had been living in Japan. It was true Katherine had approached her like this before, but it was different, she wasn’t looking at Amelie as the girl was looking at her now. When she did it, she was not observing every detail of her face, she just did it out of pure excitement. Now her peer was the one getting closer, and she just couldn’t stop looking at her.
Then, being as close as they were, Katherine’s gaze met Amelie’s. She had the most beautiful, deep blue eyes the girl had ever seen. They sparkled in the night, like they were lighting up all the darkness around them. Katherine tried to move, tried to react, but couldn’t, she couldn’t stop staring at Amelie’s pale, delicate skin; but what she really couldn’t escape from were those beautiful summer-sky blue eyes. The teenager was speaking, Katherine could see her lips move slowly, but she was so nervous she couldn’t even listen to what she was saying. Then, Amelie touched her curly, black hair, moving it to whisper into her ear. Katherine was completely paralyzed, having goosebumps as she ever had. Maybe it was due to the fact of no one ever approached her like this, or maybe it was the fact of Amelie doing it. She could listen to what she said this time, maybe because she wasn’t looking into her eyes or maybe because Amelie soft voice had woken all of her senses. Katherine blushed like she never had, letting her hair cover her eyes and trying to hide her countenance after the girl moved. Once the nervous, shaky sensation disappeared, the girl was left with just sadness. Why? Why did she feel so sad now?
-O-O-Of course… -Katherine was barely able to speak, her gaze aiming straight at the ground.
The brunette tried to recover a hold of herself as her friend spoke as nothing had happened. Maybe she was that used to get that close to people in that way. Constructing her very own city? Even though her mind was all over the place thanks to what Amelie had said and done during this conversation, this was something that big that even Katherine in her current state couldn’t miss. She would, of course, ask her about this when the time was proper. Right now, she just needed to end this conversation as soon as possible. Amelie's actions had only made her senses wake up and realize how sad she felt about everything.
-Yes, I’m sixteen years old and I’m at high school or senior high school if you want to be more specific. I should graduate next year. –The girl explained, her eyes still trying to escape Amelie’s. Katherine felt she should talk about the gems when she got the chance since that was also an important part of what she was doing right now. And this would be a good time to talk about it, were not for her current state of mind. So she decided to leave that for later.
She then listened to the girl’s explanation carefully. As it only confirmed she would have to go to Terminus someday, as she expected. -Y-Yes! –She nodded about she having a D-Terminal. That thing Reviewmon had given to her back at Whitewater. She honestly hadn’t use it properly yet, but this was a very good opportunity to do so. –I will add you tomorrow, as soon as I wake up. –The girl finished, still without looking Amelie into her eyes. The close encounter with the girl had only destabilized Katherine more about what she had said earlier, and she was not able to keep this conversation going for much longer.
Without even replying anything to Amelie’s final sentence, the girl was about to suggest they went to bed until her friend did herself.
-Y-Yes! It’s so late and we have so much to do tomorrow! –She promptly answered, standing up. –I’m going to rush to the bathroom and then sleep okay? It was nice talking to you, Amy, I’ll see you tomorrow. –The girl then walked at a fast pace towards the house. -Sleep tight. –She added, before starting her trip back.
After taking her backpack, going up the stairs and entering the bathroom, the girl leaned on the closed door, covering her mouth with her right hand to avoid making any sound in case she started to cry, her eyes wrinkling.
-Being… straightforward, huh? –She asked, muttering. The girl managed to stop herself from tearing, washing her face and brushing her teeth, to then go to sleep. She left her hand empty, getting into bed with Jazz and hugging her. She didn’t feel like sleeping alone that night.

Huh. Amelie couldn't exactly piece it, but Katherine's reaction to her words just felt... off. Maybe it was just the tiredness beginning to set in, but thus far, Katherine had never just agreed with any of her ideas or beliefs without providing her own input or perspective.
Nah, it was probably her imagination. For now, the brunette would just go onward as if nothing had happened.
"I'm glad you agree. There are few things as horrible on the personal level as putting your whole trust on somebody, and not having that trust reciprocated at least to an extent, you know? I've been there more than one time and it... hurts; probably more than any other thing I've experienced."
Was this a deep-seated issue in the teenager's psyche? It really seemed like it. For the first time since the two girls talked with each other, Amy seemed to be somewhat embarrassed, even if just for a moment. "I guess I was rambling a bit. That was unbecoming of me; sorry."
With that topic —hopefully— done for good, Amelie considered it fitting to clarify what she meant when referring to the 'opposite' of overestimating the competition. "Look at how good our team is! We've got a girl capable of outrunning a Tortomon, Liquid with his infinite arsenal of strange shenanigans, Jazz's ability to mock the competition, your brains, and my muscles! Does it really sound like a team that can realistically lose in any situation? I don't think so, personally." Another bout of laughter ensued, almost as if to downplay the seriousness of her statement, even if her tone before giggling had been serious.
But... maybe it was just better to stop thinking about the race and just relax a bit while engaging into some harmless fun! Everything had been the product of a comment that was frankly open for interpretation, and the result had been a mixture of questions that had swirled on the brunette's mind after it. And getting a good laugh out of it, of course!
It was obvious that the girl felt embarrassed after that gesture; and honestly, could she be blamed? Probably not! Her first response had been a stuttering mess, which prompted another giggle from the brunette as she looked at her handiwork. At least until the conversation kept going on its natural course. "Well, I hope you invite me to your graduation, then! I'll be happy to be there. And make sure that the ensuing party is as great as it has to be!"
Of course, all those future plans meant that they should have a way to communicate with each other, and that's where D-Terminals came in; good thing that they'd be able to keep in touch in case it was needed. Considering how stressful was to get a city from the ground up, having somebody to hang out with from time to time would help by quite a bit. "Sounds good to me. Another thing to add to tomorrow's 'do-list'. It's going to be quite the day, isn't it?" She made a pause, grinning with a measure of excitement. "Let's give our best to ensure our victory the day after! I'm even a bit excited about this."
Not bothering to stand up, she waved goodbye to Katherine as she did the motions to get back to Liquid's place. "Good night. Have nice dreams."
Once the dark-haired girl disappeared into the night, Amy finally took it as her cue to stand up, fiddle with her digivice a bit and open a portal that led directly to the Dark Area, only for her to enter. After all, the night was still young, and she had been neglecting her true goals in exchange for this venture; making up was the only possible choice, and what were a couple of hours of sleep, anyway? Said a done, an Amelie donning a dirtier version of her earlier outfit exited another portal directly at the front of the Candlemon's hut more or less two hours later. At least now she was truly genuinely tired, but not enough to go through the motions of getting her infini-store back, taking a shower and changing into her pajamas before drifting into the gentle embrace of Morpheus' arms.

Her eyes closed, cold water fell through Katherine’s body while she took a well-earned shower. Even though yesterday had been completely exhausting for her and she had actually considered taking it before going to bed, she didn’t feel in the mood to do so last night after that conversation with Amelie. It may not have seemed like, but the girls were chatting for almost an hour, and even though she had managed to get a good amount of sleep, the truth was she wasn’t feeling fully rested that morning. Nevertheless, still feeling with enough energy to tackle such an important day, the girl had woken up early and walked straight into the shower. Maybe not as early as she could have, though, since Liquid and Amelie’s bed were already empty when she opened her eyes.
Luckily, thanks to the money Coaltmon insisted on her taking back at Whitewater, she had managed to buy not only some clothes, but also some personal care products, like shampoo and soap. Granted, the shampoo bottle was oddly shaped and the soap had a very particular (yet delicious) smell, but they would do, considering she couldn’t take anything before leaving Shibuya. Getting out of the shower, the girl simply dried up using her light green towel, putting it around her body and brushing her teeth right after. The girl went out of the bathroom, wearing a pink short around 10 inches over her knees and a white beach-styled blouse. Staring at the room’s layout, other than noticing Jazz and Ooi still fast asleep, the (recurring) thought of why Liquid built all of this to work alone in here, simply confused her. For a second, she considered she should ask the candle about this later, but just like Amelie mentioned last night, did it really have a point to have to question someone who was supposedly their teammate? He should have told them all of this, and much more, from before. A sad countenance took over the raven-haired girl’s face. Was she actually in a spot where she could criticize this? She sighed, trying to forget about this topic, and staring at her digimon partner. She figured she should wake her up later since it was not eight yet. Turning at Ooi, she started thinking about what Amelie said last night; to her, it still didn’t look like their odds of winning were the best, but she was extremely glad they had a team of such marvelous people (and Digital Monsters). She also remembered Amelie mentioning her excitement about the race; the tall girl looked stunning when she was reflexive, but the glimmer her blue-eyes acquired when she smiled or got excited about something, definitely beat any kind of expression the brunette could have by a fairly large margin. The girl then chuckled, remembering her friend’s words. So she was cute too, huh? She thought. That compliment was particularly special coming from someone like Amy.
Katherine went down the stairs, thinking about making the breakfast while she combed her hair, slowly. It definitely got too curly during mornings, especially after showering. The girl turned to the kitchen, only to discover Amelie was a step ahead of her, as usual. The tall blue-eyed teenager seemed sort of concentrated, while she cooked something around the house's small kitchen. Katherine simply stared at her for a couple of seconds, to then greet her when she turned. –Good morning, Amy. –The girl said, as she slid the comb through her lower strands of hair. Katherine didn’t even consider the girl might be making breakfast just for herself, that wouldn’t be at all like her. –Thanks for your hard work. –She said with a sincere smile, walking towards her and leaning over the wall. –Do you need help? –She asked, looking at her work. To be fair, Katherine knew she wasn’t especially good at cooking and she probably would perform fairly well at any task Amelie demanded, but it wasn’t a good idea for her to start fiddling around her kitchen without asking if she needed or wanted her help. After all, the girl was only an expert at making those eggs sandwiches she tended to take to school every day, which weren’t at all hard to 'cook'.
Since she had reached the ground floor, two things, aside from her cooking friend, had raised Katherine’s attention; the first one being that Nanimon was nowhere to be seen, the second being that a small, light blue colored radio-like device was over a small shelf, close to the table where they ate last night, playing a soft, very tropical music that, as all the music she had heard inside the Digital World, had no lyrics. It was quite relaxing, with a beach-styled tune. –Did you put that? –Staring at the radio, she asked, obviously addressing Amelie. –It sounds good. –She added, smiling again at Amy. It reminded Katherine of a very Spanish-like style of music, like the one she used to listen to back in Spain or Argentina during the weekends, when she was only a child.
-How did you sleep? Are you feeling ready? –Katherine asked, looking at Amelie from head to toes. She couldn’t say her peer looked completely refreshed, but she wasn’t feeling that rested either so she kind of understood. The girl then took a glance around the whole ground floor. –Any idea of where Liquid and Mr. Nanimon are?

Six in the morning. Why had Amelie chosen this time to wake up? Quite frankly, out of habit; once your internal clock got used to a specific schedule, it was pretty hard to argue against it. Slowly, she began to get out of her bed, stretching her arms and letting out a silent yawn as her body abandoned the warmth of the sheets.
She gave a lazy look at everyone around, noticing that, unsurprisingly, everyone was still asleep. In all honesty, you had to have a few screws loose to wake up this early. Or nothing else to do; both were fair reasons.
Making sure to not make a sound, the brunette fixed her bed back to its original shape as she carried herself to the bathroom and went through her usual routine; brush teeth, comb hair, change clothes and get ready to start the day. At least, now her outfit would be more fitting for today, considering the amount of work the group would have to get done; a rather simple, collared white sleeveless shirt, a pair of black shorts and a matching pair of white sneakers. The dark lines of a swimsuit could be seen if one paid close attention; even if this would be a fairly busy day, being prepared for any unexpected event was the smart move, right? Who knew if they suddenly had the dire need to swim for a bit to relax, or something.
It was funny; despite getting four hours of sleep at most, Amy felt full of energy this morning. She had a lot of things to look forward to, and had solved quite a fair bit of problems on her previous nightly escapade, so now her mind felt way clearer than yesterday. If it kept like this, there was no doubt on her being able to do her best effort both today and tomorrow.
Unconsciously, she found herself humming a happy tune while she finished her trip downstairs and donned a brown apron in order to take care of breakfast. It'd take a bit, but the teenager would get a good deal of pastries, ham, cheese and eggs from yet another small outing before beginning to prepare things proper. The smell of fried eggs began to waft through the air and had —maybe— attracted Katherine down. Or maybe she had just woken up. The only person who truly knew was her, probably. With any luck, it would be enough to wake up everyone else.
Amelie turned around as soon as the steps behind her became really obvious and faced her friend's greeting, which was reciprocated with a bright smile; it didn't take a deduction master that the brunette had woken up in a pretty good mood given the aforementioned fact and the hint of cheeriness in her tone. Leaving the utensils in the counter before tightly hugging her peer for approximately four seconds. "Good morning!" Not a second after, she turned around to resume her small venture. Not even bothering to dismiss the dark-haired girl's thanks, the taller teenager just went with some questions on her own. "How're you doing? Slept well?"
Of course, it wasn't like she would refuse somebody helping her. Immediately, she gestured at one set of cabinets; in there, Katherine would find the tableware, a tablecloth, and some mats. "If you can prepare table while I deal with this, that'd be great. We're going to be... four this time? Unless Liquid and Nanimon come back from wherever they went."
Shaking her head, the brunette responded to her peer's question about the music. "It was kinda just there when I came down and it sounded nice, so I just let it be."
Only a couple question left! "Slept pretty well, and I think I'm as ready as I can be! It wouldn't surprise me if Liquid and Nanimon are working on the boat at the moment, or maybe are in the drawing board regarding what kind of improvements can be done to it, but I think we can tackle anything they might propose. How about you? Feeling ready for today?"
As soon as Katherine had finished arranging the table, plates with fried eggs, pastries and toasted bread, alongside the ham and cheese would be deftly passed by. Finally, a teapot that was already filled with steamy, red liquid (no, not the Candlemon) was placed in the middle of the table. It had been a bit of work, but Amy was proud of it!
"Hope you like tea! It's French Earl Grey; I'm not a fan of coffee, so..." For a moment, the brunette seemed a bit flustered. "I'm not very good at preparing it. But I can try if you want some, anyway."
Even without the breakfast staple that coffee was, the whole selection seemed to be somewhat impressive; that much was obvious. Once Amelie was done, she got out of the apron, left in on the counter, and proceeded to sit in order to enjoy her handiwork. "Do you want to try and wake Jazz and Ooi up, or do you think they'll do that on their own? I'm sure that Ooi is able to sleep through an earthquake if she really wants to, so... trying to wake her up is probably not gonna work. But the thought is what counts, I guess? Your choice."

At first sort of shocked but then unavoidably smiling at her friend’s gesture, Katherine only weaved her arms around the girl too. The brunette was fairly taller than her, so she had to stand on her still bare feet toes to hug her back, maybe a little tighter than how Amelie did, just because. It would take her some time to understand Amy had little trouble with physical contact, unlike everyone else in Japan, but then again, since Katherine didn’t have any either, she eventually would get there.
Nodding at her friend’s question, Katherine replied. –I did! Yesterday was tiring, but I’m ready for today. –The girl clenched a fist, a determined look on her face. Then, she considered they hadn’t quite studied which kinds of modifications they would have to make on the boat to withstand the incoming race without sinking; so ready for what? As some would say, no way to know.
Putting detail in Amelie’s cooking, Katherine noticed her friend had managed to reunite a fairly large quantity of food, variety included. She wondered how, if she herself had checked Liquid’s small freezer last night, noticing how there were only more trays of frozen food. Which of course, didn’t taste bad at all, but probably weren’t fitting for breakfast. The girl then remembered last night, how Amelie showed her how she could open portals to go basically everywhere. –So that’s how… -Katherine muttered, her finger placed on her lower lip, again, unintentionally mumbling her thoughts instead of leaving them inside her head. She quickly reacted as her friend asked her to set the table for everyone. It wasn’t quite what she was thinking when she offered her help, but if she could help somehow, that was great; plus, her peer seemed to be almost done with the cooking part already. Katherine did as she was asked, except she did add Liquid’s and Nanimon’s plates into the mix since she figured they wouldn’t miss this meal.
Listening to her friend’s suggestion about where Liquid and Nanimon could be, the girl frowned. That didn’t seem right. Maybe Liquid could be reviewing which kinds of modifications they could use in the boat, but it had been set in stone that neither Nanimon was up for helping with anything related to the boat nor Liquid wanted his help, with the exception of the materials the ‘old man’, as the candle called him, had brought for him yesterday, which apparently were actually his. A reflexive expression formed around Katherine’s face. Why? What was the reason Liquid didn’t want any help coming from Nanimon, even when it seemed he was perfectly capable of helping? Could it be something like pride was involved in all of this? That was a possibility, undoubtedly. –I think Liquid and Mr. Nanimon will show up. –The girl simply said with a smile, leaving behind all of that internal rambling. There was definitely too much stuff they didn’t know about this whole story for her liking. Hopefully, the answers they were looking for could be found before the race. Even though it was probably selfish to want that in her current spot.
-It does sound good. –Katherine said, referring to the tune sounding around the ground floor's layout. –I used to listen to lots of music like this when I lived in Spain. –The girl added, as she finished combing her hair and started to just play with it; rolling up a finger in her curls, and then pulling it out, slowly. The girl took a peek inside the docks, just to find them empty. Liquid wasn’t there, and as she imagined, much less Nanimon. They were really going to skip breakfast? Not a chance in hell.
The girl then stared at the teapot as her friend explained her choice. –Oh, I like Earl Grey tea. And my mom used to drink the French one a lot when we lived in Paris. –Katherine tilted her head, while the blue-eyed's name and everything she knew about Amelie came into place. –Amy, could it be… that you’re actually French? –She asked. Granted, it took her a time to get there. No coffee? she could withstand that for today, but if Amelie was going to be her friend and hopefully they would have some sleepover some day together (Which would be the first sleepover ever for Katherine Jasso), coffee was extremely important for the next morning. -Well, I can let it pass for today, but if you want to please me, you'll definitely have to learn how to make a damn good coffee. -The girl replied, winking an eye in a teasing tone. -And then, you can teach me how to do good tea. -Katherine loved coffee, in case it wasn't clear after that. Even with the lack of the black beverage, Amelie's homemade breakfast looked amazingly good.
Again nodding at Amelie’s suggestion, the girl began making her way towards the stairs, passing by the table. –The smell should have been enough to wake Jazz up but… -It was. –Her partners sweet, child-like voice, interrupted Katherine’s sentence, who turned towards the table to see Jazz sitting on a high chair, already eating from a plate. -So fast! –The girl said, her eyes wide open, not really understanding how did she get there without her noticing. -I can’t blame her; this is amazingly good! –Liquid, who had also taken a seat next to Jazz, was already eating too. -Liquid! That was pretty fast too. –The candle seemed to be really enjoying that breakfast. –Haven’t you ever tried human fo--The girl interrupted herself, just realizing both her partner and the candle were being awfully disrespectful starting to eat without everyone having taken a seat yet. –Stop eating! –She said, smacking both digimon’s heads with an angry expression, both stopping immediately. -You must behave yourself, kid. –Nanimon, who had also taken a seat, scolded Liquid. –Is everyone here!? –Katherine sweatdropped. –I’ll try waking up Ooi. –The girl said, before going up the stairs.
Trying to take his eyes off the food to avoid keep eating it, Liquid simply turned at Nanimon, blinking. –By the way, Old man. Where were you? –He asked. –I went down earlier and didn’t see you around. I thought you have slept here. –The candle then frowned, considering he hadn’t seen Amelie either, even though she wasn’t at her bed when he woke up. -I did. I just woke up early to visit an old friend, Kid. -Nanimon answered with a smirk. –He told me he saw you yesterday at the beach signing up for the race. Boy, always making a fuzz, huh? –He asked, letting go a chuckle. –He said he even talked to you. Jazz tilted her head, looking at Nanimon and then turning at Liquid, who seemed to be pretty confused too. -Could it be…that Megaseadramon? –The bunny clearly remembered that digimon appearing to defend Liquid when that other guy Snake was making fun of him. Nanimon nodded, still a smile on his face. –That’s right! His name is Inra. He’s a close friend of mine. -I see. –Liquid said, raising his gaze to think about it. -It can’t be. That Megaseadramon is…? –Jazz eyes remained wide open, completely shocked at the reveal. -… the great Inra!? –She asked, completely stunned.
