A Trip to the Zoo (Rebecca & Coolmon)

Post by Rinji on Jul 22, 2018 2:23:47 GMT
Getting back to the human world had been a huge pain in the spiracles, but still, here he was. Back on Earth, he corrected. That was its proper name, unlike the Digital World, which had no proper name.
Rinji was also very much not an insect at this moment in time. No, his holosuit was activated, and instead of a giant monstrous centipede there stood a red-haired, peculiarly amber-eyed boy. The type of teen that wouldn't look out of place attending school, which was probably what an actual human would be doing right now. It was a Monday.
He was stood in the parking lot, the early morning sun shining down as he thumbed the hem of his simulated shirt. In front of him: the admissions gate. The place where you paid to enter. And he had no money. No human money, at least. He sighed in exasperation, his brow furrowing. "Should've thought of that..." He mumbled to himself, unaware of anyone that might've been watching.
All his excitement, his anticipation... wasted. Because of his absent-mindedness.
Of course, there's always the alternative way, he thought slyly as people streamed past the gates. Because right next to the gates, were some bushes and a wall. A wall that was impossible for any human to scale, but not a digimon. Especially not an insect digimon.
It wasn't honest, and he was already starting to feel a little bad about it, but with a few glances over his shoulders, he walked past the gates, hands in his pockets, and approached the bushes. The thicket would conceal his transformation.
A blazing red glow encased him, casting shadows on the brick wall. Shadows of a boy changing shape into a relatively massive centipede. Better make this fast, he thought to himself as he eyed the wall. Then, with a stir, he leapt up onto the crusty surface, scrabbling upwards and wreathing sideways before finally dropping down on the other side into another thicket.
Then he fumbled, reaching for the holosuit device beneath his carapace and switched it back on. Rinji grinned a very human smile, and then stumbled onto two legs. Quite casually, he walked out from the bushes, joined the stream of people still arriving, and then stopped in front of a map-post to decide where to go next. Surrounding it was typical Japanese foliage and branching paths, presumably leading off to different exhibits. There were no animals here, not yet.
"The tigers are over there... but I'll have to go through the aviary first? Wonder what that is..." He mumbled to himself, plotting out the path in his head. It felt better to talk to himself this way, because although he wasn't showing it, he was still nervous that someone might've seen him and raised the alarm.

'Let's go to the zoo,' they said, 'it'll be a good time,' they said, Rebecca thought bitterly as she walked around the local zoo. Her grandmother gave Rebecca some money and told her to go, saying she needed to get out of her room more often.
Like she knew what was best for Rebecca.
On top of that, Agumon and Gabumon both wanted to go, as well. They said they were interested in seeing Earth creatures besides humans. So with two opposing forces on her butt, Rebecca put on a nice yellow loose tank-top and a white skirt, and headed down for a "day of fun" at the zoo.
She liked animals, but she hated all the people around. It made her feel uncomfortable, to the point where she was mentally cursing at her partners for this. If only she had her idol alter-ego's confidence for real...
However, Rebecca saw something utterly disturbing as she made her way to the reptile exhibit - a gigantic bug crawling over the fence to get into the zoo! It was a maroon-red like color, with trims of yellow and a grey belly. Rebecca just stared at the creature in shock, not knowing what to do - just like back in school.
However, what she was NOT expecting was the bug to turn into a relatively attractive-looking redhead! "What the...?"

Coolmon had came here for one reason and one reason only. And that was to find out what a zoo was and sate some more curiosity. And after she had spent enough time scrounging up the yen for this? Here she was! It was a nice way to spend a Monday outside of your ice cream stand.
Except she had hit a bit of a snag, a roadblock, a hurdle.
She was not expecting there to be SEVERAL paths to take into the zoo. Oh, this was a dilemma. The real question to be asking herself here was what would Yuu or Kyo do? Or Unica? Actually, heck, what if she was here?
...Wait. This was a school day, right? So maybe not... Either way, she decided to clear her mind by wandering around the entrance area until she hit the map at the center and stumbled right into some redheaded person! "OOF."
...Oh god people oh geez act natural. "...I am SO SORRY about that!"

Rinji was still rubbing the side of his face, contemplating the map, when a smaller, warm body crashed into him. "Woah, woah," he startled, reaching out to stabilise the poor girl that'd stumbled into him. His hands, which were still a little foreign to him, found themselves around her waist.
"Uhh..." The digimon in disguise wavered as he stared into her eyes. They were a vaguely familiar bluish-green and he found himself utterly captivated by them. "Oh, sorry..." Rinji murmured, arms falling back to his sides. He'd held onto her for just a few seconds too long. Would she think he was weird?
He regarded her for a moment, pink hair, short stature, long scarf... wasn't it a bit warm for that? There was something else nagging at him, however. Something familiar... no, it couldn't be. Not here. "I... I don't know you, do I?" He asked tentatively. After all, it was possible it was a coincidence. That this just happened to be a very similar girl. A lot of humans looked the same, after all. Maybe somewhere on Earth there was an entire colony of pink-haired humans with blue-green eyes?
Rinji looked away, feeling at once rude for having stared at her. He glanced out of the corner of his eyes a dark-haired girl that seemed to be watching the exchange take place. In all fairness, they were making a bit of a scene, and he found himself glancing between both the girl in front of him and the map beside him.
It was a very flustered look, compounded by the blush that alongside his hair, made him look very, very red.

Well, what a predicament Rebecca had found herself in. She caught this centipede-like Digimon putting on a holosuit red-handed (not to mention getting into the zoo without paying,) and now this other seemingly oblivious girl just bumps into him! What was she gonna do?!
"Uh... hi there," Rebecca immediately said, semi-switching to her more social personality, but still being a bit reserved if that makes any sense. "I'm just a normal girl walking by, on my way to the ol' reptile exhibit. I totally didn't see anything at all!" Hopefully, the pink haired girl would have no idea what Rebecca was talking about.
"Soooo, I'm just gonna walk along past you now... going to the ol' reptile exhibit..." And Rebecca did follow on her word, walking past the redhead. However, she whispered to him in a way that only he would hear...
"I saw you in bug form."

Indeed, Coolmon had no idea what Rebecca was talking about in the slightest. Nope. She just stared incredulously at both her and Rinji, particularly the latter. That question sorta nagged at her. Did she know him? Nevermind the fact he managed to catch her, too.
Hm...It took a moment. The redhead looked super familiar... "Uhhh...I dunno, maybe? Swear I've seen you before too." Damn it who WAS THIS PERSON?
And better yet, who was that girl just now going AW HEY I DIDN'T SEE NOTHING, I'M TOTALLY FRICKIN' NORMAL, LA LA LAAAAAAAAA.
Was it normal to feel like a dumbass right now because GOOD HOMEOSTASIS that's how she felt.
And then it sort of hit her. That's a lot of red. Was that...?
...Okay, one might expect her to say something but Coolmon was just super duper quiet right now.

Attention broken, Rinji stared at the dark haired girl that was now intruding on the mess of a social situation that'd just occurred. Weird was beginning to turn into downright strange, and he was beginning to wonder if he was dreaming. If he'd wake up in his tree hollow and go, wow, that was weird.
But nope, the situation continued to get stranger. She wanted to meet him in the reptile house? He creased his brow, squinting at her as suspicion and dread slowly crept back. She'd seen him, hadn't she? Her last few words were enough to make the blood drain from his face. Or whatever blood the holosuit was simulating.
Yet if she'd seen him and wasn't telling anyone else, why was she asking to meet him, in what he presumed, was a secluded area? Was it an ambush, a trap? Otherwise no sane girl would agree to be in a secluded area with a giant Jungle Trooper digimon. There again... maybe she was the type to investigate first?
The girl that was stood right next to him finally answered his question, now that the other girl had left. He'd worry about her in a minute. One thing at a time.
He looked back down at the pink-haired girl, worry still on his face. However, it faded a little when his eyes met hers. Still, he was about to ask a question that could jeopardise his position, if it wasn't already jeopardised.
"Coolmon?" Rinji's voice had come out at a breath, anxiety creeping into the tone. He'd almost stuttered. But before she could answer, he continued. "Hey, could you do me a favour... and um, come with me to the reptile house?" This time, his voice was terse. Whether she was Coolmon or not... back up would be nice. A fight couldn't break out if someone was watching - and if she wasn't Coolmon, it would be enough to distract her from his other question.

Hopefully, Rebecca had gotten the redhead's attention by casually revealing what she had seen him do. And so, she walked off to the reptile exhibit to catch up with her two friends...
Walking into the area, she felt like the temperature just skyrocketed. Probably necessary to keep these reptiles alive and happy, she figured. It wasn't long before she spotted her two "best friends" looking at a giant python with interest.
One of those was "August," a tall, muscular man with buzzed blonde hair and green eyes, wearing a bright orange T-Shirt, black pants and brown sneakers. The other was "Gabe," a tall, muscular man with long white hair and red eyes, wearing a white sweater with a yellow tank top underneath, blue jeans and black sneakers.
Unbeknownst to others besides Rebecca, August was Agumon, and Gabe was Gabumon, both of whom were Rebecca's twin partners. The dark haired girl walked up to the two brothers as they were just so damn invested with the python, that they didn't notice her there yet.
"Ahem... Hey, boys!"
This caused both August and Gabe to jump from surprise.
"There you are, Rebecca! Look at this neat-"
"A holosuited Digimon is coming here. Don't blow your cover yet."

This day just got more and more odd by the second. Well, not really. But it was...something else. For one, Coolmon's suspicions that this redhead was actually Rinji just got confirmed, blame her for forgetting she was -there- when they got their holosuits, and for another, he was...scared?
Several...thoughts kind of just started to race through her head. What did that girl want in the exhibit? Did she beckon Rinji there? Oh geez, did he need help? She exhaled. Okay. "Oh, sure!" Good start. Not your best but still pretty good.
Coolmon lowered her voice to a whisper. "...Did that girl say anything weird to you? What's going on? Everything alright?"
There was concern -allover- her voice, that's for sure.

So this definitely was Coolmon. Fancy meeting her again here, in the human world, of all places - and in holosuit form. A breath of relief escaped him, followed by an uneasy laugh.
Then his face took on a far more serious expression. "Coolmon... I think she saw me. As a digimon." A quick glance behind his shoulders and he smiled awkwardly at Coolmon. She probably deserved more of an explanation. "You know... when I, uh, snuck in," he admitted.
"She said to meet in the reptile house; I don't know what she'll do if I don't." In all honesty, he felt as if he had no choice. Would things escalate if he ignored her?
"I'm just... you know, what if it's a trap? Wouldn't a normal human run away - or, or tell the police?" His concerns just started spilling out. A pained look found itself on his face. He should have just gone home when he had the chance.
Eventually, he turned to the map and pointed. "The reptile house is there, I think. And that was the same direction she went, too." It wasn't like Coolmon hadn't seen the girl herself. "Should... should we go?" He asked her tentatively. As if maybe if she said no, it would be acceptable not to. Although if she said yes, he'd follow her without a doubt.

"Waitreally? Oh, geez, that's...actually really worrying. Being seen undisguised in this world is like...uh. Stealing the Declaration of Independence! It's awfu-" ...WAIT.
RINJI -SNUCK IN?- WHAT? That was outrageous! Coolmon's mouth hung agape like she just heard her favorite singer was kill. No. This would not do. "You -WHAT?- C'mon, Rin! Y'could've just asked me for some money or something or I could've gotten us both tickets and..." She sighed. "...Sorry. Uh. Let's focus on the now. Like that weird girl who whispered stuff."
It sounded like a trap. It sounded a lot like a trap. "...Yeah. She ain't normal if she's...pulling what I think she's pulling. Guh, humans weird me out..." Okay. Okay. A plan slowly formulated in Coolmon's head. It was a very simple one that she honestly thought was like, super profound.
"...As much as I wanna do otherwise I say we go in there and calmly explain stuff. If she's -not- normal then obviously she understands what we are...Either way. I say we because I'm going there with you. I've got your back and you've got mine. Simple stuff!" Coolmon explained, walking off towards the reptile house and beckoning Rinji to follow. She fixed up her gloves and scarf. The walk itself was really...quiet, at least when it came to talking. Coolmon was notably actually trying to blend in when it came to acting like a human rather than the single most sickeningly exuberant rabbit this side of Japan. She stopped outside of the reptile house and took a very deep breath. "I'll go in first and you come in behind me, and if she's there we go say hi like reasonable people."
And then, Coolmon actually went inside of the reptile house, peered around to find the girl with...Wait, were those her FRIENDS? WHAT THE ACTUA-...No, no. Play it calm. Play it cool. Establish dominance by t-posing aggressively or something. Coolmon cleared her throat before walking right up to Rebecca and her 'friends' and going "Ssssssup." with her hands in her pocket. If it weren't for the fact she stood at 5'5 in her holosuit? This might look a bit intimidating.

"I just don't see why you find this big snake interesting," Rebecca says as she watches the python with August and Gabe. "I'm sure you two have seen BIGGER snakes than this."
"Yes, but those snakes would have been trying to delete us," Gabe informed his 'friend.' "So we never really could just observe it from a distance."
A few minutes later, Rebecca noticed two people walking up towards them: that same redhead from before, and- wait, was that the pink haired girl? Yes it was!
"What are you doing here?" Rebecca asked the girl, before August stepped up.
"Hold on, Rebecca... they're both in holosuits."
Wait... so that girl from before was, OHHHHHHHH... okay, so she wouldn't have been in ANY real danger at all! Still, there was a problem that DID have to be addressed.
"Hello..." Rebecca said to the redhead. "My name's Rebecca... and these two are August and Gabe... also known as Agumon and Gabumon. I saw you sneak into the zoo in that bug form of yours."
"Wait, you snuck into the zoo?!" Gabe immediately told the redhead. "While not holosuited?! Do you have any idea how dumb of a decision that was?"

Ack, okay, Rinji realised as Coolmon went on. Despite not knowing what a Declaration of Independence was, the weight of the issue was clear. Maybe he'd taken the whole 'being unseen unless in disguise' issue a little too lightly. He scratched his head; why didn't anyone tell him?
And if Coolmon could've gotten a ticket... why couldn't he? He'd have to ask her where she got the money for it later. There were more pressing issues at hand. Issues that he was infinitely glad Coolmon was here for. "Th-thanks, Coolmon," he said with a genuine tone of sincerity, before the both of them started the walk to the reptile house.
There was a suspenseful silence in the air as they made the trip along the cobblestone pathway. A couple of times Rinji tried peering to see if there were any animals in the nearby cages, but it seemed they were sleeping for now. Soon enough, they arrived, and Rinji stopped doggedly behind Coolmon.
He nodded pointedly, "I'll be right behind you."
Anything could be in that house. There could be an ambush of humans. An ambush of digimon. Crowds of innocent people. Or there could be nothing at all.
When he wandered through the door after her, he was hit by the smell and humidity of a rainforest. It was oddly comforting. A comfort that was immediately replaced by the feeling of his stomach turning when he saw the two men besides the girl from earlier. They were definitely digimon. He could smell them.
One was definitely a Gabumon... the other, he wasn't sure. An Agumon, maybe? There again, the entire place stank of reptile. Did Coolmon even realise what she was walking towards?
"Coolmon, the guy in white is a Gabumon. I think the guy in orange is an Agumon," he whispered matter-of-factly to her as they approached.
Well, Coolmon hadn't introduced herself - and following her lead, he refrained as well. It was a good idea to be guarded on Earth, whether your potential assailants knew about Digimon or not.
In fact, he wouldn't have gotten the chance to introduce himself before Gabe immediately began scolding him. Any pre-tense of a trap began to fade away, replaced by scene rather like a parent scolding a child.
"Uh, uh, I..." Rinji stammered, taken-aback by the idea that the three had been concerned for them. Still, with Coolmon next to him, his confidence was bolstered. "I didn't think anyone was watching, sorry." He admitted honestly. He wasn't the type to lie, or lie well for that matter. "Guess you must've been downwind of me," he excused pitifully. Had it even been windy? Foolishly, he hadn't been paying attention at the time. He'd just wanted to see the animals.
Still, he wasn't sure about admitting that he simply didn't have the money to pay. Although it seemed Coolmon had read between the lines, it would've been equally as embarrassing to say it aloud.
"And what you saw was a Scolomon, not a bug," he said slightly cryptically to Rebecca as a small gaggle of teenagers wandered in. Thankfully, they soon wandered away again to see some other animal, but they'd have to watch what they said. So much for privacy.
Still, Rinji had to hide any sign of being a bit miffed at being called a bug for a second time. Calling an insect a bug was equally as insulting as calling a human an ape.

...Okay. This was very unexpected. Agumon and Gabumon in holosuits...But...Hm. They must be twins. Coolmon was enough of a history buff to know what the heck those guys probably fused into...Eh. She could take 'em. She had her best friend at her back, after all. "He made a simple mistake and didn't realize anyone was watching. Cut him some slack, geez. Bet you've done something similar at least once before."
Biased as she might be? She felt like this shouldn't be that big of a deal... "...Anyways. I'm Coolmon and this is my best pal in both worlds, Rinji. And yeah, it's a Scolomon! Insects are different from bugs...Hmmmgh..." Coolmon huffed and crossed her arms. Seriously? Is this what they were scared of? A goddamn lecture?

"Sorry?! This is WAY too big for a simple sorry," Gabe continued lecturing them, and it was clear that Rebecca and August were not with him on this, as they both had widened eyes and anime sweat beads. "Do you know how much of a panic a Digimon would cause?! Especially an insect Digimon!"
"Dude, maybe you could calm down a little bit, huh?" Agumon said, trying to defuse his normally calm brother. "He just made a little mistake."
"Besides, it looks like you've already freaked him out enough..." Rebecca says, albeit very quietly and unsure.
"...okay, maybe you're right... but he still snuck in without paying for a ticket!"
"That's part of why you're upset? Come on, stop being a worry wart."
"I'm just trying to be the CAUTIOUS one here. One wreckless you is enough."
"Okay, you know what? Let's just all start over..." Rebecca says, taking initiative. "Hello. My name is Rebecca, and this is August and Gabe, also known as Agumon and Gabumon. It's nice to meet you, Coolmon, and..."
Crap, I don't know his name!
