"Oy, when I arrived freshly at my teach's place he used to pull me through here to show me what community work can do! Then he'd kick me into the pond when I mouthed off at him. Man, those were some tough first weeks..." She scratched her head. Once she saw what Naoko had brought for food she was delighted! She reached into the bag...and ate a handful. "Hey, ya brought snacks along, cool! But what do we give the ducks n carp?" It took about 5 seconds before something clicked in her head. "Oh hey, that's the food for them, cool! Lemme give 'em some!" She reached into the bag once more, now throwing the grapes and rice at the ducks, trying to aim just in front of them.

"Tough as they are, you're still here, right?" That's...Well, Naoko thought that was a weird question to be asking. "...I'm glad you're here. Really." And then Otohime just grabbed a handful of the stuff that was meant for the ducks. Naoko just stared at the girl for a few long and tense moments. Like, a 'what did you just do' sort of stare.
This went on for those five seconds. "...Yeah, it is. Uh. Here." She offered the bag and watched Otohime throw the grapes/rice before she got her own handful and did the same. Hers landed around the ducks. They looked like they were happy to feast on the flesh of the earth.
And peaceful, too. Really peaceful. "...At least it's not bread. Holy crap I'm glad we didn't bring bread." That was bad.

Otohime just smiled at Naoko, completely and utterly deaf to the awkwardness of her actions, or the implications of Naoko's silence. Girl was denser than pure Osmium.
For now, however, she just sat down by the pond, watching the ducks. "Yeah man, bread is bad for these guys! 'sides, I prefer eating my melonpan myself!" She stared out on the pond, watching the water ripple as carp grabbed rice and grapes off the surface. "Y'know, whenever I was in a bad mood, ol' teach'd just take me someplace I'd never been. Like, even if it was just a shop I've never been in before, or a fish market by the docks. Was the most mundane shit ever, but he said if yer at a new place, yer brain's too busy workin' on the new information to think much of what's eatin' ya. And, well, he was right, after that trip I usually felt better. I hope this park will have the same effect on ya, Nao! I dun like seein' me friends bein' all sad!"

Naoko inevitably just shrugged. Otohime was so dense that she could probably be used to crush something and not even realize something. "...I should've brought that for us. Oh well..." The girl trailed off. Dangit, that was a simple thing to remember...
Her staring at the ducks had almost lead to her spacing out before Otohime started talking. Crap. She listened to her, and...well, everything kind of clicked as to why they were here. Despite how simple Otohime had been, and how Naoko herself was, the former simply wished for the latter to feel better.
So to that end, the former brought the latter to a new place for her. It was kind of sweet in a way. "It's...not so much that I'm sad. More...grief, I guess...? It's been a really long week and it's also been kind of hard. So...yeah. This is a nice place to be right now. Thank you." She gave a smile that one could think of as genuine. "I...don't like my friends being that way either. Never expected myself to end up on the receiving end of getting cheered up, though..." Well, Otohime could now count herself as a defier of expectations.

"Eh? Ain't grief just sadness on steroids? Eh, dun matter. What matters is that ya can relax here, maybe forget yer worries for a bit!" Her smile was so wide and genuine, not even that toothgap could lesser it. "'Ey, no need tha thank me! You feelin' better is all I need!~" Otohime then gave Naoko another one of her signature bear hugs. Clumsy, tight, but so full of genuine affection. "Oi, we're all sad now 'n again. An' even the coolest and best of us got moments of weakness! Teach taught me that moment of weakness dun make you weak, they jus' show yer human!"

"Kind of but I'm feeling a lot of grief right now that I'm also kind of being...distracted from." Otohime did have a point in that she could relax. She had been trying to relax this entire time, really. When given a smile, Naoko couldn't help but return it, and the same went for Otohime's bear hug.
"...Hey...Do you have moments...like that too?" Naoko found herself asking. "Moments where you feel weak?" It was a figurative kind of weak but she was also hoping for Otohime to get what she was trying to ask her. Also, she wasn't quite letting up with the hug yet.

"Aeeeeh? Weak? Me? I'm never weak! ...well, sometimes I'm weak..." She looked down at the water. "...y'know, sometimes I do think how things woulda gone if I hadn't gotten messed up. Y'know. If I had proper parents, if they had loved me, if I had gone tha school, if I hadn't gone bad...dat's when I get weak. Jus...thinkin' about what coulda been. All that sufferin' I had and still would have if not for Teach...yeah, that makes me weak..." She stared at the reflection of herself on the water. All her usual enthusiasm seemed to have drained from her, even the bear hug had lost its strength. While she did not look sad per-se, she seemed despondent, and without any energy. Was this how Otohime was like when she was sad...?

Naoko found herself briefly letting up with the hug as Otohime began to speak. She listened to her friend, and honestly speaking? A feeling that she couldn't really peg down as pity welled up in her. No. It wasn't pity in the slightest, but it was...sympathy. A want to help someone heal. She took one of Otohime's hands in her own and cleared her throat a little. "...You're stronger now because of that, though. And you have people that love you now, too. Jiro, your teacher..." She hesitated a little before adding "...And me too..." Wait, what.
"...It's...stuff I could've prevented for me, really. That's...all I can really say...Uh...I...also think that what happened to you wasn't...your fault....Sorry, I suck at talking to people. I really do. But I'm...trying to speak my mind." Okay, to hell with talking, Naoko just pulled Otohime into another hug. It wasn't very tight but it was a hug nonetheless.

Otohime stared down at the water as she was hugged. She sniffled and rubbed her nose, but no tears came out. After a few minutes in silence she looked back up, and gave Naoko a smile. It was clearly not wholly sincere, as she still harbored some sadness, but she clearly didn't want her friend to not worry anymore. "I guess yer right, I got folks who care about me now! It aint the shitty times anymore, I now live in a much nicer world! Thanks, pal!~" She then returned the hug. The subtle confession of Naoko's flew entirely over her her, as expected.

Naturally, Naoko, the master of forced smiles that probably looked a little painful, was able to note the slight insincerity of Otohime's smile, although she opted not to comment on it. "Yeah. You do. You...never have to deal with them again. You're you, now, Otohime. And your world is what you make of it, 'kay?" The girl told her as the hug had been returned.
Of course, Naoko then realized what she had said a few moments earlier. Did she actually tell her that? What the hell? Why would you DO THAT? She was incredibly lucky that it had flown over Otohime's head, subtlety did not ever seem to be her strong suit, but goddamn.
This of course lead to a brief look of panic hitting Naoko, causing the girl to stiffen up a bit, before it subsided and she was able to put on a smile for her friend and relax.

Otohime nodded. "Hehe, hell yeah, this world's mine, I can shape it with my own hands! My destiny is mine!" She raised one fist triumphantly towards the sky.
Of course, as dense as Otohime was concerning words...she was much sharper on actions and expressions. And Naoko going stiff did not escape her notice. She held her at arm's length and looked at her with concern. "Ah, dude, you got all stiff! Are you ok? Do you got a cramp? Those are nasty! Tell me where it is and I'll get rid of it for ya! Is it here??" The girl's fingers sunk into Naoko's shoulders and tried to relieve a nonexistent cramp, likely making the problem even worse.

At the very least, Naoko noticed she managed to help Otohime's downed mood rise back up a least a little bit. Yet, she didn't account for one thing. The girl, dense as she was, was pretty apt to pick up actions. And Naoko did indicate some discomfort with how she got stiff. "E-Exactly. Your destiny is yours, just as mine is mine."
Which lead to now. Naoko was still as a statue while Otohime massaged her in public. "Y-Yeah, sure, uh...S-shoulder cramp." Yeah. She made the problem worse, alright. Naoko felt extra hot in the cheeks, and in what may or may not have been a moment of embarrassment mixed with even more panic, it was incredibly uncertain as to which it was. Naoko just shut her eyes and leaned in to plant her lips on Otohime's face. Somewhere. It was hilariously unclear as to where.
It appears this has evolved into a disaster.

Due to the angle Otohime had angled her head to help Nao...her lips were the part that Nao's lips touched. She remained frozen for a few seconds, then pulled back, her head red and her eyes full of confusion. Well, more confusion than usual. "E-e-e-eh? Wh-wh-what happened? What was that? W-w-why did you touch my lips with yours? Is that a kiss? I never had a kiss! What does a kiss mean? How do you even kiss? Oh gods..." She held her radiant cheeks, shaking her head in confusion. ...she was actually more confused by what a kiss was than by the fact that she just got kissed by a girl.

A few seconds, depending on what had occurred beforehand? They could feel more like a few minutes, or an eternity. Naoko, in those few seconds, came to a few conclusions. One, she kissed Otohime. Two, she kissed her right on the lips. Three, she had zero idea how to feel about this, and four? It seemed like Otohime was just as confused. Naoko sort of sat still and tried to make a little sense of what's around her.
Okay.
One thing at a time. "Uh...Yeah, that's a kiss...Er. It w-was." Naoko was pretty quiet. Also a little slow with her words. Trying to explain something that nebulous was...something in and of itself. "I did it because I was kind of panicking. I think. Uh...It's usually one way to show someone you like them a lot. Like, someone that isn't family I guess...?" Never mind the fact that that was her first kiss too. "...I guess that's sort of true, still."

Otohime blinked, and scratched her chin. The cogs in her head were chugging away, cracking almost audibly as she made sense of what Nao just told her. A way to tell someone you like them a lot? Outside of family? Why, she never knew! This is so enlightening! "Oh, oh, I get it now! I didn't know that! I'll remember that!" She then...pulled her close and kissed her again. And held it for -seconds-. In her mind, this was now an innocent, new way to show that Naoko was her BFF. So all she did when she pulled back was giving her a big doofy smile!
