On a brisk early afternoon, Connor would be shown sitting on a worn chair as he was on the porch of his house, strumming his guitar. It let out some sort of a somber sound, his focus on the road ahead. Ever since moving here, he already missed his friends dearly but, for his Dad's sake, he has to roll with it. He then started to have a flashback where he was in the car with his Dad driving it. His Dad looked at the rearview mirror, looking at his son. "I know that you're not going to like it but, it's the way it has to be." his voice echoing into his mind.
The flashback ended as he kept on playing his guitar. It was a bit worn with its brownish-orangish color gleaming a bit from the edge of the sunlight. "How bad can it be?" Connor said to himself.
The sound of a guitar playing from outside slowly brought Justice back from the dead of sleep. He started to slowly wiggle and stretch within his cosy, warm, haven that is his bed. As parts of his body were gradually turning on, he realized that he was being snuggled by two of his Digimon--Veemon and Gumdramon-- who were still softly asleep. It had been a few days since he was partnered with the two of them and they have been quite a handful. He glanced at the alarm clock, which said 1:13 pm. He didn't have class for the next three days as his professor came down with the flu and was bed-ridden, so Justice saw this as a much needed break from assignments.
Getting out of bed, making sure to not disturb the two, and rubbing his eyes, Justice open the screen to the balcony. He could feel the morning breeze lightly dancing on his face and the bright sun stinging his eyes. The guitar that was being played became much louder as he step outside. He spotted a young man playing the guitar a few houses from hear. Thinking that the song he was playing was relaxing, Justice kept the balcony screen half-way open as prepared to get his day started, and by that he means waking the two lazy birds up.
Connor didn't notice anything as he kept on playing. To him, it was the only thing he could remember New Orleans by or, probably the bandanna across his mouth pertaining to the little accident. To switch things up a notch, he decided to start whispering lyrics as he played a string of notes as the pace was toned down. Even though he doesn't know all of them, he decided to whisper his favorite verse. "Against the tide, we struggle." it then trailed off into smaller whispers with him improvising notes. It was kept slow and somber, just like he did before.
After a minute, he stopped and decided to put his guitar to the chair he was on and fully stood up. He didn't know what else to do other than play music. After a few seconds of standing there and thinking, he gave a quick glance to a person upon a balcony, a few houses down and looked away. "I think I attained an audience. However, it's best to keep it down low." He said to himself.
"Why? You should keep playing!!" A voice echoed around the porch as he quickly turned around, nervous, to then feel creeped out. Connor knows that his Dad went out to buy groceries so, he's the only one here. Or probably not.
A faint light was glowing near some bushes in front of his porch but, he didn't notice it just yet. "Um." Connor felt confused. Where was that voice coming from? Or maybe he apparently lost it.
Justice slowly walk to the two sibling Digimon that were still deep asleep on his bed. Veemon, the small blue dragon Digimon, was sprawled out like the textbooks on his desk, while Gumdramon, the small purple dragon Digimon, was tucked inside the blanket, with only the top of his head visible. Veemon was usually the ones to wake up before him and his younger brother, so it was kind of odd for him especially to be asleep for so long. He started to softly shake the two up, only greeted with no response. He then turned on the alarm on his phone, still no response.
"Dang these two are knocked out cold," he said. He eventually gave up and went into the bathroom and took a shower. They'll wake up eventually when I start to cook some late breakfast, he thought to himself as he closed the bathroom door.
As he closed the bathroom door, Gumdramon's eyes quickly fluttered open and flung the covers over his head. He glanced at the other side of the hallway to make sure that his new human partner was in the shower. "Heh, I can't believe he feel for it," he said. He went over to his brother and shook him awake, who started to respond slowly . "Mmm five more minutes", Veemon sleeply said. Gumdramon sigh and used his tail to hit his brother upside the head. Veemon let out a quick yelp, but was silence when the purple dragon put his hand on his mouth, trying to make sure that their human partner didn't hear them in the other room. "Shhh, you want him to hear us?" He then pointed to the balcony that was still opened. "I think it's time we do a little bit of exploring don't ya think?" "Yeah, but don't ya think Justice will find out when he gets out," he said. Gumdramon scoffed at the comment, he wasn't gonna let some human, especially his partner boss him around.
He jumped out of the bed and walked up to the balcony railing. "Hmph, stay here if you want. I wanna see what the human world is like." Gumdramon jumped on the rooftop and was off. Veemon didn't had time to think whether or not he should leave and followed his younger brother. "Hey wait up!"
Connor decided to play along, now assuming that someone is just hiding somewhere near him. "I mean if you want me to keep playing then I guess I'll play." He shrugged to himself. He picked up his guitar to then sit down on the chair. "Any requests?" He asked the mysterious voice.
"Ooooo! How about something Upbeat?" The voice cheered.
Connor nodded with his eyes shifting around, looking for whoever is pranking him but, couldn't seem to find anyone. He started to play anyway, playing something more "upbeat" as he played higher notes to also increase the pace. While doing so, he started to break a sweat, being nervous, once again as to where the voice was. He thought, once more that he could be losing it.
His eyes weren't fixated on the bright light inside the bushes as it was almost masked by the sunlight going through said bushes.
The two Digimon were jumping from rooftop to rooftop, exploring the Residential District. While Gumdramon was enjoying himself, Veemon was still unsure if leaving Justice without telling them where they were going was the right thing. "Um, bro I think we should start heading back now, Justice could be done in the shower any minute." The younger brother turned towards him with distain on his face. "Tch, he'll be fine without us for a little while," he said. "Besides, he'll probably just go right back to that...schoolwork that humans do." He crossed his arms "I think he cares more about something as mundane than us anyway.
Veemon responded by stomping his foot down, which caused a few shingles from the roof of the house they were on to fall on ground. He gave his younger brother an angry glare that pierce through him like dagger. "We're going back, now." He grabbed his arm, only for Gumdramon to quickly release his grip.
"What's your problem," Gumdramon asked. He was partly amused and partly irritated. After all, doesn't think he's doing anything wrong; Veemon was the one acting like a buzz kill, in his opinion.
Veemon gave his brother a sidelong glance as he curled his fingers into a fist. "I don't like your irresponsible attitude, you've been acting like that since we first came to the Human World. Is it Justice?"
Gumdramon tilted an eyebrow. "So what if it is?"
"Don't be so stupid," Veemon snapped. "He hasn't done anything to you. You have no reason to think like that towards him.
Gumdramon stalked up to his older brother, putting his face in his. "I do, because you're so fine with this whole thing aren't you? You just like kissing the ass of a human that we've only known for a few days."
"The hell you just say?" Veemon yelled, butting his head to Gumdramon, who also returned the heat butt right back. The two brothers were seconds away from punching each other in the face. Before one of them could make the first move, the sound of upbeat music playing a few houses down from Justice's filled the silent neighborhood. Curious on where the sound was coming from, the two brothers gave an angry glance at one another being silently deciding to investigate it.
Connor decided to not even bother as he stopped playing immediately and stood up, putting down his guitar on the side of the chair. "Alright, look! Where are you?!" He shouted as he went in front of his house. His head shifted around, as he then pinpointed the voice as it spoke:
"Over here!" The voice giggled. Connor squinted to see a bright light somewhere in those bushes.
Connor slowly walked up to it as he puts his hand on his hips."Listen, I'm not here to be messed with by a kid, alright? Now get out of those-" As just as he puts his hand on the bushes, expecting someone else, the white light blinded him to feel like it exploded in his face, seeming to launch him to the lawn. His bandana was off, sitting next to his body on the ground where Connor was also. "Ugh. My life hurts." He spoke groggily. He looked to the side of his right hand as it had a strange device on it
Gripping it, he lifted his back up to then held it up close to his face. "Okay. I think, at this point, I shouldn't be surprised if anything else weird happens." He said to himself.
His head turned to the porch as he sworn he saw something sphere like just hid into the side of it. He stood up to then grab his bandanna to tie around his mouth. He started to go towards the porch, the device in his right hand.
Veemon pondered as to why his brother was in such a foul mood as they followed to source of the music, but separately. Gumdramon was jumping between house on the adjacent block while he was at the other. He didn't know why his brother thought ill towards Justice. The human has done nothing bad to them since they've first met. In fact, he's been a very great person, despite all three's first meeting being sour.
As they were nearing the source of the mysterious sound, Veemon made a detour back to the house to see if Justice has noticed they were gone. He landed on the rooftop and lean to peak at the bathroom window. He scrunched his eyes up tight, and rubbed the window. The window was fogged up so he barely see anything, so he assumed that Justice was still in the shower. "Thank goodness that humans take a while to wash themselves," he says as he leaves the rooftop.
Gumdramon sighed and kicked a T.V. dish off the roof of a nearby house he was jumping on, he didn't think he said anything bad. He always spoke what was on his mind, so why should his feelings towards the human be any different. Before he could think any further, his nose picked up something. He stopped traversing to try and make it up. It was a familiar smell, not like the aromas here in the Human world. "I smell a Digimon nearby!" He exclaims, continuing to smell where it was coming from.
Veemon caught up to Gumdramon and landed right next to him, picking up the familiar scent as well. "You smell it too?" he asks."Yeah, it's nearby, I'm sure of it" The two didn't look at each other since they were still upset with one another.
Suddenly, a bright light appeared in their peripheral vision. They saw a human being flung over by it, probably the one that was making that strange noise they were hearing when they came back here.
"I think the Digimon is there." Gumdramon said as he pointed to it. They both jumped to the house next to where the human was at, staking out and making sure they were hidden from view.
Connor made it to the porch but, he looked to the left with nothing there but, his guitar. He then looked to the right, also nothing there to then looked in front of him.
"Down here!" The voice spoke but, it seemed more natural and sounded like a 6-year-old boy. Connor looked down to see a sphere like a creature with wings in front of the sides of his face. His seemed to be gleaming right at him.
Connor, at first, seemed afraid. However, his eyes were also gleaming at him. He lowered down to almost his level and puts his hand out, putting down the device to then go for his head. The creature seemed to almost bounce back but, he knows that it seemed that it's okay, he stood still.
Connor then started to pat his head. "As I said, I shouldn't be surprised if more weird stuff decided to happen after." He murmured under his breath.
He stopped patting him with the creature giggling. "You seem hard on the outside but, on the inside, you're so SOFT!" He cheered as he bounced up and down. Connor laughed as he then went into a criss-cross position.
"I'm very curious as to who are you are if it wasn't obvious already," Connor spoke to him.
"Me too but, let's start with our names. My name is Upamon." The creature spoke to him.
"Upamon?" Gumdramon whispered, trying to keep a low profile so that the human and the mysterious In-Training Digimon wouldn't detect them. He turned his eyes at the human to inspect him. "He must be a Digidestined like Justice," said Veemon
Gumdramon turned his head in question. "Hmph, well unlike Specs, he dude looks more like a thug with that bandana on his face if you ask me."
Veemon shoved his arm at him in response, nudging him back a bit. "What did I say about that big mouth of yours?" "And what did I say about you minding your own business about what I think?" Gumdramon said as he returned the shove back.
The two then started to shove each other, back and forth on the rooftop. The shoving, as quick as it started, turned into wrestling. The noise of their skirmish now being easily heard from the ground below. The brothers didn't notice that their fight was driving them closer to the edge of the roof. But just as they realized it, they went sent falling below the bushes.
"Well, my name is Connor. It's nice to meet you." He nodded. "Hey, how about you tell me-" Connor immediately heard some commotion coming from the roof but, he could then hear something that came crashing down to the bushes from the looks of how it sounded.
"What was that?" Upamon spoke curiously as he hopped down the stairs to look back at Connor. "Let's check it out!" He said to him.
Connor nodded and got up. "Maybe there's more of him or a number of species. I don't know for sure but, I guess I'm about to find out." He thought.
His Tamer followed him down the stairs with Connor looking left and right. Upamon did the same but, hop to turn left to then hop to turn right. "Hey, you look at those groups of leaves from the left side and I'll look at them from the right," Upamon suggested.
Connor nodded as he went to the bushes towards the left. "I wonder if Upamon isn't familiar with what several things in the human world are." He thought to himself as he pulled his sleeves and rustle around with the bushes to try and see who or what fell into them. He couldn't see anything.
However, when Upamon went to the right as he squinted. "I think I see something..." He spoke to himself. "Hello? Are you there??" He attempted to speak to the bush.
The two brothers slowly recovered from being discombobulated from that height. It wasn't nothing that they can't handle, but the fall for them was surprisingly nonetheless. But as soon as they got up to try and make a quick get-away, Upamon was calling for them in their direction. So much for stealth. "Uhh, nobody's here," said Veemon "I'm just a friendly neighborhood bush, you know. Aww man I love water, soil, and sunlight and stuff." Gumdramon rolled eyes as he was still laying upside down. As much as he wanted to say something, now was not the time. Even though Upamon is a baby, there's no way he would fall for that, he thought to himself. Meanwhile, the shower head turned off and Justice stepped out and dry himself off. He was in the shower for roughly twenty minutes, way longer than how people are suppose to shower, but who showers for only three minutes anyway. After a while of getting ready, he stepped out of the bathroom, ready to start the day. Well, late anyway.
"I think I'll take those two and we'll all go out to the park," he said to himself. "If we go out far enough, I'm sure nobody will see us." He walked up to his room and slowly opened the door. "Hey you two, wake your lazy butts up. We're gonna have some fun to-" He only stood in shock as it was revealed that the two were nowhere in sight; they just vanished. The only way they could have gotten out was the balcony, which was still open. "Those little-" He quickly rushed downstairs, with each steps, but then quickly rushed back up as he forgot his Digivice and phone. He put on his shoes and ran out the door.
Upamon, thinking if every bush could talk, he fell for it. "Okay! Sorry for bothering you!" He said politely. Connor turned to see Upamon talk to the bush and he already knew what was going on. He would speed walk over there to the bush to then attempt to put his hand through the bush to grab them. "Okay, enough playing games!" He spoke, sternly. He used his other hand to pull up his bandanna to the bridge of his nose in case if it fell off when he was
But, isn't it a bush person?" He asked his tamer.
Connor wouldn't be surprised if Upamon still didn't get the picture. He should introduce him more to Shibuya but, it wouldn't be a new experience for them as it will be a new experience for both of them.
For a second, Gumdramon was at a lost. His mouth was agape as he turned to his older brother, who winked in response There was no way he fell for it he thought to himself. But of course, Upamon was just a In-Training Digimon, so any Digimon in that state would be more gullible. The feeling of relief then turned into danger as the human named Connor was very aware of their presence. They watched as the human dig his hand in the bush to try and reveal themselves by force.
"Ah screw this noise." Gumdramon boldly declared. He extends his tail and lashes it out in all directions while trying not to harm the human. Veemon only sighed as this outcome was inevitable anyway. The swipes from the purple Digimon's tail picked the leaves off the bushes with ease, making them swirl in around Connor and Upamon, masking their vision temporarily for a dramatic reveal. The two jumped in front of the two and revealed themselves.
"You two are in for a surprise now! It's the Digital World's number one wild child! Gumdramon is here! Be amazed by my presence, human! "
Veemon crossed his arms huffed; he was a bit annoyed that he was the one that got the two of them into this mess. "You are so dead if we make it out of this." Justice shuffled a key into his pocket as he had just locked the door. He quickly walked nervous into the middle street, scanning the neighborhood for any signs of the two. "Now if I was a Digimon, where would I go?" As he jogged quickly from house to house, he had noticed an object littered on the front lawn of someone's house: a T.V. antenna dish along with a few roof shingles. It appeared to be kicked off or something, but it was hard to make out due to the force of the damage. He looked up to the house that the dish was on. "Judging by the trajectory of the object and the position of the house, it looked like whatever kicked it was sent from to the left." he predicted. He got up and started sprinting into that direction. He chewed on his lip anxiously. "Guys, where are you?" he muttered to himself.
When Gumdramon was going for a dramatic reveal, he quickly took his hand out and quickly picked up Upamon to cautiously move back. "WAA! So, it wasn't a bush person!!" Upamon exclaimed as the leaves blinded them for a second.
Connor was wowed by the Digimon in front of them. However, he didn't give the expression that he was. He was going to say something until the Gumdramon spoke.
Connor couldn't help but, let out a snort. A few seconds of silence, he busted out laughing. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Wild child?! AMAZED?!" He started to laugh again but, even louder. He stopped after crying out of laughter. "No offense but, introducing yourself like that goes to show how cocky you are." He spoke as he carefully puts down Upamon. He didn't want to ask who they were and their names because he felt a distrusting feeling other than the Veemon. "I'm assuming you were dragged into this?" He asked him.
