Christmas Wishes (Alan, Justice)

[December 23, 2018] [5:04 PM]
It is the night before Christmas Eve in Tokyo, and the sun had set on this cold Winter day. A decent amount of snow was falling from the sky, and the entire city had that flare of holiday cheer in the air. People were walking throughout the city, either shopping for late Christmas gifts or slipping on the icy sidewalks on the way to get there. The latter is what Adrian did just before entering Shibuya 104.
"Ow! That hurt..." Adrian groaned as he struggled to get up. His partner Shoutmon, who was walking alongside him in an oversized blue hoodie disguise, laughed hysterically at Adrian's misfortune. "Yeah, yeah... hey, is that a Digimon over there?!"
"What?! Where?!" Shoutmon asked as he turned around. As he did, the back of his head immediately turned cold as Adrian had thrown a snowball right at him. "Ack! Cold!"
"Gotcha," the human laughed as he ran into the mall, Shoutmon immediately following after. "Alright, we need to get going on the Christmas shopping." He then pulled out a list of people that they needed to buy Christmas gifts for:
Mom Dad Aaron Jitsuko Owen Logan Bezil Leith Red Veemon Rebecca Agumon Gabumon Johan Dokamon
I hope I'm not forgetting anyone... Adrian thought.

An American boy of about eighteen years sits thoughtfully in the food court of Shibuya 104, tapping out holiday wishes to his family on the laptop in front of him.
Dear Everyone,
Merry Christmas! I know you might prefer to hear this directly from my face, and in my voice, but I know you're all likely asleep right now, and if I tried to record something, I'd never be able to settle on a take! That's why I'm sending you all an email. It's the least I can do for you for being so supportive all this time, especially with how suddenly things changed.
Across from this young man was another boy who appeared to be the same age. Unlike the first's outfit, which consisted of a light jacket, blue jeans, glasses, and a black baseball cap, the other's attire was both more formal and less fit for the cold weather, since it featured a short-sleeved white dress shirt, an unbuttoned, dark blue vest, khaki-colored jeans, a grey ivy cap, a black belt, and black dress shoes. He sit in a relaxed position, hands behind his head, and foot tapping as he waited only somewhat impatiently for his friend to finish writing.
First of all, I wanted to let you know that I remain unharmed, and intend to stay that way. Second of all, I wanted to more specifically thank you for continuing to provide me with an allowance, though there is not much for me to spend it on, other than gift shopping. Speaking of which, I attached a few gift card codes for each of you to redeem. I know those have always been the easiest gifts, but would it be presumptuous at this point to say that it's the thought that counts? (Heh.)
The arguably-well-dressed boy watched as his companion's glasses and blue eyes reflected the white rectangle of the screen in front of him. His fingertips lightly tapped on the table in a repeated wave pattern, starting from the pinky, and moving to the thumb.
I'd apologize for constantly not being able to communicate you for so many days at a time, but I realize that you it's not as many days for you as it is for me. I do hope you can come visit sometime. I've already introduced you to Levi, but apart from that, you'd have to see many things for yourself to understand a lot of what I say to you. Perhaps you could come see me perform with the band? We've gotten quite popular for a band that won't show up on any browser search, and only performs in venues of equivalent obscurity, to audiences of mostly equivalent obscurity.
Levi considered his friend's eyes. He felt their color complimented his own nicely. Red and blue. He was fond of the color blue. It would "kind of suck" if he wasn't, to use his own words.
But, as is standard practice, I digress. I shall be in and out of touch for the rest of the holiday season, though the "out" part likely only means I'll take a few hours to respond to some messages. Levi is starting to get impatient, so I'll wrap things up here. I can always add more later! Or, you know, just text you. We'll talk soon!
Love,
Alan
Alan clicked the "send" button, made sure the email sent without issue, and closed the laptop.
"You finished?" asked Levi.
"Yep!" responded Alan, taking a small square out of his pocket, expanding it just enough so that it was larger than the edge of the laptop, at which point he pushed the device into the rectangle. The laptop slid right through, and failed to appear out of the other end. Alan was not the least bit concerned about this. The two got up from their seats.
"What are we going to do now?"
"Gift shopping!"
"For whom?"
"Ourselves!"
"What do you expect you'd want? To hear you tell it, your favorite gifts are rendered useless while in the digital world."
"I dunno, maybe something for both of us to enjoy? Like a chess set! Or other board games! It's the thought that counts, right?"
"I wouldn't mind having a chess set around."
"Well, if we see one, we'll buy it! But other than that, I'd just like to look around some more! I never got to fully explore this place the first time. Someone was distracting me."
"Hah! I regret nothing!"
Alan chuckled, then smiled sincerely, before starting to walk with him. "Me neither, Levi."

Six o'clock on the dot.
The few mail carriers Justice knew let out at this time, postal offices were the same he assumed. At least, that's what he was given to believe as to seeing how most postal offices he saw on his way home from the Shibuya Schools Campus were closed by the time. Thankfully the postal office on the second floor in the mall--Shibuya 104-- was an exception to that rule.
The line at the postal office was unusually short, seeing as how Christmas is just only two days away, Justice assumed that the postal office would be overwhelmed with people receiving any gifts especially since this was at the mall nonetheless. Thankfully that wasn't the case. But he didn't want to stick around any longer than necessary. He had already been leered for more than he liked.
Then again, he really only had himself to blame for that, as lugging around two bags trying to conceal his Digimon for the public eye was beginning to be a little taxing for him.
Finally, it was his turn in line. The person behind the counter asked Justice for his package I.D. number. "Roku-Roku-Ichi-Kyu-Shi." he responded slowly. The person complied and went into the back. He just started to learn Japanese, seeing as it was finally time to learn it anyway since he wouldn't be lucky in finding English-speaking Japanese people.
A few seconds later and the person returned with Justice's package. He bowed and said thank you in Japanese and departed from the outlet. As he walked, he nervously glanced at the sticker on the package that was sent to him from his mom; her signature was eloquent as always. But the content of the package was what was riling him up.
"Why are you fidgeting?" Veemon asked as he peaked out from one of the bags. Gumdramon also followed suite.
"I'm not." Justice replied, twisting a strand of a dreadlock around his ear. He noticed he was doing this and stopped immediately.
"You were saying?" Veemon arched an eyebrow at him.
Justice rolled his eyes. "Shut yo ass up."
Veemon smirked at him. He liked when he was right and when his Tamer knew it. Not that he would ever be afraid to admit it. Gumdramon however, was becoming a bit agitated.
"Can we get something to eat please?" he said. "I think I've forgotten what food tasted like."
"Sure thing. Let me just fiiind-"Justice stopped as he was scanning for any food outlets. It was only until he noticed the large food court that was just below them "There! Don't worry you two, we'll be eating in a jiffy. It's about that time anyway."
Veemon and Gumdramon let out a "Yeah", but only after noticing that people heard them, did a quiet "Yeah" in addition and went back into their respective hiding bags. With that being said, Justice quickly rushed down to the food court to avoid any suspicion.

Adrian didn't have the best experiences here in Shibuya 104. Mainly because almost every time he decided to go, there was some Digimon causing a commotion somewhere. Granted, these events would end up having Adrian meet a new friend, but today was just a day that he didn't want to spend chasing down a rogue.
And so far... nothing. The two of them explored the mall for a few minutes, and nothing was jumping out, no people were screaming bloody murder... it all seemed well and good!
That was, until Adrian heard Shoutmon say, "Adrian, I'm sensing three Digimon closeby!"
"Three?!" Adrian asked, absolutely dumbfounded and upset about hearing this. All of Adrian's hopes for a normal night out and Christmas shopping, gone out the window. "Alright, alright, where are they?"
"In there," Shoutmon responded, pointing towards the post office. Adrian didn't know what he was expecting when he turned around, but he immediately saw a face that he knew.
"Alan? Is that you?" Adrian asked as he walked up to Alan and Levi, of course they didn't know that it was Levi yet. "It's been a while! What're you doing here?"

"Adrian? Yeah, it's me, Alan!" Somehow, Alan wasn't surprised to see Adrian at the mall on the one day he decided to come back to it. He had assumed that when he first met Adrian in that very building, he had made some sort of a bad first impression. However, when Adrian recognized him, it didn't seem to be with any distaste. That said, Alan couldn't think of how he could possibly have made a good impression, but little to no ill will was apparent. He decided it was a good idea to not mention it unless it was brought up. Levi, on the other hand, was decidedly more nervous about this encounter. Levi had changed his mindset considerably since first meeting Alan, Adrian, and... the first Shoutmon he had done something to anger, but he still felt uncomfortable thinking about how he had acted, even if things had turned out okay in the end.
"Well," began Alan, "I'd say we're 'gift shopping,' but I already took care of that for anyone else I might need to buy for, so we're just looking for something to buy for ourselves. How about you two? Are you buying gifts?"
Levi nodded in confirmation, but remained silent. He wasn't sure why he was so insistent on pretending for even a second that he could sit this conversation out, but he had already taken on a "speak only when spoken to" attitude.

Justice quickly went down the stairs, passing by other mall shoppers who were taking their time going up and down the stairs who were doing Christmas shopping. Shibuya 104 was really into the Christmas spirit, something that Justice hasn't seen for awhile. Back at home, there was always something going on that revolved around Christmas, but not any of this magnitude. Now he was really glad he went out instead of sitting at the dorm and doing nothing.
"Alright guys," he started, "The food court is just up ahead. Tell me what you want and please, don't make me go broke. You two eat like alpacas."
Gumdramon quickly unzipped the bag so he could hear his voice clearer. "That's because we haven't eaten any good food yet."
"You had some noodles a half hour ago."
"I said GOOD food, Specs. Don't go deaf on me."
Justice only responded by rolling his eyes. When he arrived at the food court, he didn't know where to start at; there were too many food stands to count, from a McDonalds, a Dairy Queens, and a Quiznos. He wanted to go the Dairy Queens, but his eyes caught onto some funnel fries that were on a nearby stand. He went up there and ordered three medium sized funnel fries. Luckily it didn't cost much as he was low on liquid. Justice went to a reclusive bench that was not far from the food court, but hidden enough so that his two Digimon could come out of the bag.
"Alright the coast is clear. You can come out now." Justice said in a low-tone, hoping that no one would see them.
On queue, the two burst out of the bag, inhaling the fresh, mall aroma.
"Ah man, I thought I was gonna suffocate in there." Veemon said, slowly climbing out of the bag. The two started to do some stretches since they were cooped up for about an hour. Veemon then took notice to the food Justice had and went up to it. "What kind of food is this?" he asked.
"Funnel fries," Justice responded as he took a bit of one, "They're hella good. Too good that you can't get enough of 'em."
The brothers started to sniff the food for examination. They've only been in the human world for a couple of weeks, so it was no surprise that they're still learning something new about it everyday, especially when it comes to food. They each took a bit and before they know it, their taste buds went into flavor town.
"SO GOOD", they said in unison. Veemon started to jump happily while Gumdramon bounce on his tail like a spring. "SPECS, WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US THAT FOOD LIKE THIS EXISTS," the purple dragon asked as he buried his face with the food.
Justice couldn't help but laugh at their reactions. It was too adorable not to look away from.

"Yep, we are buying Christmas gifts," Adrian responded, holding up his list. "We have about fifteen humans and Digimon to get gifts for. Some are for my family, but a lot of them are for friends I've made this past year... and I'm planning on getting Shoutmon a surprise gift as well."
"By the way, Leith told us you went googoo-eyed for Leith's Flamedramon," Shoutmon just had to say as he began to laugh. "You have no idea how much hearing that had made my day that day!"
Just then, Shoutmon overheard someone saying how he was going to go over to the food court. Sneaking away from the others, the hungry Shoutmon followed the weirdly-colored man down the mall stairs and all the way to the food court and spied on him, wondering what kind of food he was gonna get. Why is his skin all burnt like that? he thought. To his surprise, he saw the human open up his bag and TWO Digimon popped out of it!
Oh no, this is bad... Adrian's gonna freak out when he realizes even MORE Digimon are here! He doesn't trust the mall, and he certainly won't trust it after- oh, what's that they're eating?
Shoutmon was interrupted from his train of thought when he noticed the Funnel Fries that the human had purchased earlier, and saw how the two Digimon reacted to them. Shoutmon drooled as he watched, he was so hungry...
Meanwhile, back with Adrian he then realized that Shoutmon had gone missing. "Shoutmon? Shoutmon, where are you? ...damn it, he must've slipped away. I'm going down to the food court to search for him. Wanna come, Alan?"

"Fifteen, huh? Wow, that's cool of you. I've been getting better at it as of late, but I've always had trouble remembering to buy gifts for my immediate family, so I... respect that a lot."
"Went googoo-eyed for...? Hmm... Oh!" Alan began a muffled laugh. "Yeah, that happened!"
Levi was prepared to make throat-cutting motions to signal Shoutmon to lay off the subject, until he saw Alan was taking the comment well. Instead, he joined in on the laughter.
"Jeez, that was the beginning of October, wasn't it? Feels like so much longer!"
"Well, that tends to happen when you've experienced most days since then as entire weeks."
"True. Yeah, Leith's Shoutmon had a similar reaction. Glad I made your days. 'Course back then I was beating myself up over it. A real kick to the stomach." Levi maintained a smile, but winced with the rest of his face. "R-right, you don't like that being... sorry." Levi nodded in forgiveness, but still wanted to make sure Alan knew no offense was taken.
"That guy's hot stuff," he added smugly.
Even though they had been speaking in response to Shoutmon's earlier comment, Shoutmon disappearing had slipped from their own attention, as well.
"Oh. Huh. Yeah, we'll come along!" said Alan.

While the two Digimon enjoyed their delicious snack, Justice stare at the mail that was sitting to the side of him both curiously and nervously. He had some reservations about opening it, since Christmas was only two days away and it was practically the norm that no one opens their gifts until Christmas day. He had always took that rule to heart since he was a kid. But now, things were different.
He reached out for the package with his hand, but resistance still cling to his mind like a coat hanger hanging in a closet. He had tried, in vain, to keep himself from tearing up the package to see what was inside.
'What if it's a new CPU drive for my computer that I've been asking for?' Justice thought to himself. 'Or what if it's a new phone?'
Knowing his mother, she would go all out when it's the holidays. But ever since she lost her job, things back at home had been a struggle. Sometimes he felt like he didn't deserve to study here in Japan because of that, but his mom wanted this for him because he felt like he deserved it. Then again, if he didn't came here, he would have never got to meet his Digimon. The thoughts in head were swarming his mind when suddenly he heard a voice over his shoulders.
"Opeeeen iiiiiiiit."
"You'll never know what's in there if you stop being a wuuuuus."
He turned around to see his two Digimon, beginning to laugh at the teasing.
"Subtlety is lost on you two, isn't it?" Justice stated, smiling, putting the package down on his lap.
"Just saying how we see it." Veemon responded, with a quick smirk.
Justice leaned back against the bench. "Then I must not be seeing what you two see."
"Then clean your glasses." Gumdramon retorted, giving him a cheeky grin.
"Capital idea, Gummy."
Before all three could continue, The Digivice embedded in Justice's glove started to ring. It was a sharp noise that startled the three. The ringing signal that a Digimon was nearby. A Digimon here? At the mall at this hour? Justice got up from the bench and started to scan the area; nothing was out of the ordinary.
"Gummy, can you tell where the Digimon is at?" Justice asked, putting the gift in one of the bags.
"Yeah! Just leave it to me!"
Gumdramon started to use his nose to sniff out the Digimon. After taking a few steps, he jumped straight up.
"HE'S BEHIND THAT PILLER." he said as he pointed to it.

Adrian felt bad for Alan, since he seemed extremely embarrassed by the comment that Shoutmon had made. He wondered how that event even really played out...
"Don't worry about it, okay?" Adrian says, trying to cheer Alan up. "You should've seen what I looked like when I first met my friend Jitsuko. Back then, I'd occasionally look at her and not realize that I was just staring at her for five minutes straight." Adrian then had a more depressed look on his face after he said that...
Now it was time to go look for Shoutmon before they went off to buy more Christmas gifts. Adrian was silently cursing Shoutmon for getting distracted as he hurried down the stairs of the mall. He was just hoping that the rest of today didn't go like this much.
Back at the food court, Shoutmon was shocked about how the Gumdramon was able to find out where Shoutmon was hiding! He was not prepared for this at all! Abort! Abort!
I think it's my cue to make like a Cherrymon and leave, Shoutmon thought as he hurried off in the opposite direction. That plan was immediately shattered when he ran into Adrian's leg.
"There you are, Shoutmon! You can't just run off like that! Did you get hungry or something?"
"What? No, of course not! I'm not hungry right now!" Shoutmon tried to lie. That lie was proven unsuccessful when his stomach growled loudly.
"Your stomach gave you away," Adrian laughed, "I guess we could stop for some food first, but it'd have to be pretty quick, we need to get those presents before they go away."
"No no no, we can just go and buy the presents now! At a store far from the food court!"
"Okay, where is Shoutmon and what did you do to him? My partner would never easily refuse food like that."

He claimed to laugh it off, but Alan was truthfully relieved to hear that Adrian had heard about that incident, but still thought nothing less of him. "Hey, thanks, Adrian..." he said.
It sounded like a good idea to the partners to go find some food. "Hey, I could go for something to eat right now," said Alan, Levi nodding in agreement. "Heck, I still haven't tried that sushi I decided against the first time."
However, Shoutmon was intent on getting away from the food court as fast as possible.
"Ahh, being approached in the mall by someone who wants us to get out of the area as fast as possible and won't explain why. Tale as old as time."
Levi spoke up, "Hehe, hey, you don't think there's a third Veemon about, do you?"
"Fourth. At least if we're counting Archon. Does Archon count as a Veemon?"
"Archon's a Veemon and a half~" said Levi, staring off to picture the black dragon in question.
"Heh! Anyway, we're getting distracted. What's the issue, Shoutmon?"

All three of them watched as the Digimon who was wearing a hoodie that was way too big for his size took off running. Justice couldn't help and be intrigued as to why was there another Digimon at the mall. Could it be that he was doing Christmas shopping as well?
"Don't worry Specs, he won't get away!" Gumdramon said as he was reading to take off flying. However his momentum was cut abruptly when Justice grabbed him by the arm. "What are you doing, he's getting away!"
Justice responded by pointing a finger as three other people were next to the Digimon. Judging from the look, it appeared to be that the Digimon in question was affiliated with the three dudes. Which meant that either one of them was his human partner. And besides, Justice knew that the Digimon didn't want to cause any harm. If he did, he would have attacked them when he was caught.
Gumdramon looked back at Justice and the three before finally getting it. "Ohhhhhhh!" he obnoxiously blurted out.
Veemon, walked up to his brother, sighing as he put his arm around him.
"About time someone caught up-to-date." he said as he chews down the last of his funnel fry.
Gumdramon turned towards his brother and gave him a so-done look. "Shut up." he boldly said.
Justice then grabbed the two's attention and ushered them in their respective bags. As soon as Veemon got in last, he lift both back on his back and slowly approached the mysterious people. '
Are they just like me?' He thought to himself.

Shoutmon was a bit taken aback by Alan asking what the issue was. "Issue? What issue? There's no issue, honest!"
"And wait, who's Archon?"
Gumdramon's obnoxious "oh" wasn't just confined to Justice and Veemon. It was loud enough for the others to hear as well. Adrian looked up in the direction towards the noise, an eyebrow raising slightly. "Did you guys just hear that?"
"Oh, that?" Shoutmon asked nervously. "I'm sure that was just my stomach growling again! Come on, you wanted to get food didn't you? So let's go to the other end of the food cour-"
"I would much rather go Christmas shopping actually," Adrian interrupted the red dragon, obviously suspicious at his behavior. "So if you'd rather do that, then we have to get gifts for everyone on the list before we go and get food. Can you handle that?"
"Yes! Definitely! Absolutely! Let's just go already!"
"Alright, alright, geez..." Adrian and Shoutmon were then about to start walking back to the stores, but then they noticed someone walking up to them. A foreigner clearly, as there were very few people of color living in Japan. Shoutmon tried to look away from him while Adrian tried making conversation. "Can I... help you?"

Justice became a bit surprised hearing clear, articulate English coming from the blonde dude. At first, he thought that he was going to be greeted with the sang language that he'd grown frustrated of hearing, mainly because he could barely understand it from besides a few words. But hearing English for the first time in a while was refreshing to say the least.
"Oh thank God, you speak English." He said at he let out a sigh of relief. "For a second I thought was gonna speak Japanese for a sec. I can't speak it very well."
He quickly looked at two other people with him. They seemed nice for the most part. He then turned to the small suspect in question, who was wearing a jacket too big for his size. He offered a nervous smile to them. This was going to be hard to explain.
"So how do I say this without coming off as rude." He muttered to himself. He couldn't blatantly state that these three were Tamers and were associated with the supposed Digimon in question. He had no evidence to go off on. Instead, he decided to unroll his sleeve and reveal his Digivice, which he dubbed the D-Watch since it had the appearance of a regular watch, but engraved with a stylized sun pattern. He hope that revealing it should explain everything.
"I saw your little friend over there eying my food. I don't blame him, funnel fries are legit the best snack around." He took a funnel fry and offered one to the little guy, trying to come off as non-threatening.

"Huh? Oh, Archon is-"
Alan was cut off by Levi jumping in front of him.
"Archon is a BlackVeemon who was born in the Dark Area! He's a virus type, and apparently a lot of other people judge him for it, but that doesn't really mean anything to us, so we were happy to help him out when we saw that he was sitting alone at the Rosewood Inn, and having a hard time! I don't know what other people were supposedly assuming he was like based on his appearance, but... he couldn't possibly be like that at all! He's kind, understanding, charming...."
"Ooookay, Levi."
"H-h-h-handsome..." stuttered Levi, as his friend patted him and the back to calm him down.
"He left an impression, is what we're saying. Hm?"
At that point, Alan heard the sound of the distant Gumdramon having a realization, and witnessed the meeting that ensued.
"Yep! Looking for people who happen to speak English? You've come to the right place, it would seem!"
