Power, To You [Coolmon&Rinji] (Construction Project)

The new tunnel had been excavated. Now, Rinji, currently in champion form, had to get out before it would be flooded. He checked the wristwatch that'd been strapped to his right antenna.
10 minutes before the DexDorugamon would open the gates.
Incidentally, he had 17 minutes before Coolmon would arrive for tea.
At the moment, he was 100 feet underground, at the end of a tunnel leading out into an abandoned cavern that a scout confirmed did eventually lead to the outside world. It was essential that the diverted water would have somewhere to run while the construction work took place.
You couldn't build a hydroelectric dam underwater, of course. Unless maybe they hired some Divermon.
And since Rinji wasn't so sure of his own swimming abilities, he opted to dig a tunnel straight up and get out of the way. The desolate walk back didn't take so long, and soon he was back underground where the power station to be was located.
It was at the top of Deeplane's cavern, where a supermassive lake ran out into a river that winded deep into the cavern's depths. Even Rinji didn't know what lived in the water or where it went. In the cavern, the water was pitch black as a starless sky.
The river would also be dried up in a minute, once the DexDorugamon lowered the water level. Hopefully nothing lived in it.
Meanwhile, he still had plenty of water to make tea. He'd even joked to Amelie that he'd drained the river just to make tea. It was almost believable since he'd bought an entire crate of teabags.
He really hoped Coolmon liked tea.
The Mukademon weaved through the maze of cinder blocks, cement bags and shipping crates to the entrance hole he'd dug for Coolmon. It lead straight up into the outside of The Forsaken Wastelands.
He poked his head up through the entrance like a ground squirrel in a hole, and waited for any sign of her.

Coolmon wasn't really wanting to admit that she didn't enjoy the idea of returning to the Forsaken Wastelands after what had transpired the last time she had visited. Then again, the place Rinji had told her about was...just on the outside of it. Therefore, it wasn't at the wasteland exactly. Just in close proximity. She had taken to making the trip in her Antylamon form. More practice with it meant that she could probably learn to hold it better. And she was certain the entrance was very close. Hell, Coolmon saw a little head poking up through a entrance. Rinji himself would be greeted with...well. This. The only tell-tale sign that it was Coolmon was her scarf. It had always stayed the same for all of her forms. "Rinji?" Come to think of it, she hadn't seen him in...in person for the longest time.

When the gigantic, loping form of Antylamon appeared on the horizon, Rinji suddenly felt very exposed. As far as he knew, he had no idea who it was. Was it a wanderer... or...
"Coolmon?"
A tall, chocolate and lilac bunny with a tan scarf? It just had to be.
"Or would it be Antylamon, now?" She had evolved, so did that mean she had a different name?
The centipede fidgeted. "So..., well, I know this kind of looks like a hole in the ground, but there is a city in progress down there. Uh, here. We've been working on a Power Station and a reservoir. Um..."
He stared at her, dumbfounded.
"Do you like tea?"
Then he realised something.
"Oh, let me let you in." He was hogging the hole, so to speak. With that, Rinji backed up into the hole, so that the Antylamon could drop herself in again.

It was nice that Rinji was at least able to recognize her in a form she had never actually used in his vicinity before. But, he did get the name wrong. Understandable, really. "No. Mon. Coolmon. Always Coolmon." The rabbit corrected. Her centipede companion was correct that this did look like a giant hole in the ground.
"I believe it. Big things start out as smaller, much simpler things. For a city underground, a hole is a good beginning. As for tea...I like it. I don't drink it a lot. But I like it. Do you have some, Rinji? For I would like some after the journey here. It would aid in calming my nerves."
Once Rinji had backed up into the hole, Coolmon followed, the rabbit dropping down and landing on both feet. Now, what would she find here?

"You've changed a lot," he stated. Coolmon was a lot more mature in this form. Wise, too. Rinji almost couldn't believe it was still her. Would he have to get to know her all over again? As he allowed the rabbit to get her bearings and for her vision to adjust, he decided to introduce her to his temporary home. "Well, Coolmon. This is the reservoir." He turned his head dramatically, out towards the glistening lake. About ten yards away, black water lapped at the shores. Lamps on tripod stands illuminated the waves with white ripples. Around the lake, concrete warehouses and crates punctuated the land in neat, ordered rows. Yet gradually, the lake was receding, becoming shallower and shallower. "The lake is being drained," he explained. "When it reaches halfway, the DexDorugamon will stop it and begin construction. They're going to build a dam and a generator. Are you familiar with the principles of hydroelectricity?"
It was at this moment he realised something. That was a horrible way to start a date. He also realised that he would have never said anything like that in his rookie form. The Mukademon frowned. "Um, nevermind. It's not a very interesting topic. Would you like to follow me?"With that, Rinji lead the way forward around the lake. Around the lake and towards its waterfall, where all the water exited to the rest of the cavern. Of course, a waterfall that was now reduced to a trickle, but it was still a neat spot overall. Next to the now exposed rock, would be an unnecessarily large chequered blanket. Next to it, a crate full of teabags, a basket of sandwiches and a traditional ceramic kettle. It was, for all intents and purposes, a picnic site.

"Have I? ...Do you want me to go down a level or two? I realize my height might not...be the best thing in the world." The Antylamon raised her head and craned it around to get a good look at the place. Something was indeed being made here. Lights. Crates. She noticed the recession of the water.
"I'm vaguely aware of it. I need to read more on it to truly understand it, but it sounds like an interesting idea to enact here. You seem very educated upon the topic, though. Tell me more on it if you so wish." Or not. The black and red centipede beckoned her to follow him.
The Antylamon was then lead...to a site that truly befitted a picnic. "Oh, is the tea already prepared or shall we begin? ...Also, what kind of tea is it we're preparing?" The Antylamon inquired as she moved to take a seat upon the blanket, and patted a spot next to her.

So, Coolmon was interested in hearing about electricity.
The centipede's face practically lit up like a light bulb. As if her sole comment was a starting gun to a race, he started rattling off all the basics of converting gravity into the momentum required to turn a magnetised rotor.
"...so then, instead of boiling water to produce steam, hydroelectricity uses the natural power produced by gravity acting on falling water to move the rotor. The movement of the magnets against each other in the rotor creates a changing magnetic field, which then induces a current in the copper wire. Then the whole city gets power."
Even as they arrived at the designated picnic site, Rinji didn't seem to notice that it was time to, well, shut up.
"And then we can always alter the amount of water we let through the dam to precisely meet the needs of the city. That lake has at least 180 trillion kilolitres of water, so it should generate far more megawatts of energy than we'll ever need. Probably close to one and a half-thousand."
He paused.
"Oh."
They'd arrived.
"We still have to make the tea. I wasn't sure how you like yours." As Rinji knew, making tea was an art. And everyone had their own way of making art. With that, he emptied the tea bag crate and boxes of tea branded 'Yorkshire Tea' came tumbling out.
A blue cooler, which he knew was filled with a mega-sized carton of milk, fell out too. Thankfully, it was sealed.
With everything in place, he filled the kettle with water, lit a small patch of bare ground on fire with a laser shot and placed the kettle on top.
"Now we wait for it to boil," he declared and took up his spot next to Coolmon on the blanket. Swiftly, he turned around and pulled two gigantic teacups out of a crate and placed them on the blanket with them.
"Do you want the honours?" He asked and presented a box of Yorkshire Tea to the Antylamon. Considering their size, they'd probably need a box of bags each just to make enough that was worth drinking.

It was cute to see Rinji's fate just light up with happiness at Coolmon's interest in this subject. Sure, she found that it was a FAR more involved subject than she had initially surmised but it was...interesting. Using falling water, and gravity to move a rotor. The rotor's magnets make a field.
The field makes a current. Power is delivered. "...I like the image of that. And that's a lot of water, so...I suppose there's a lot of power being sent out. I would expect no less from my Rinji. Did you come up with it yourself?" That final question was mostly one delivered out of curiosity.
As to how the Antylamon liked her tea? "I don't like it in any specific way. But, I...have a fondness for sugar. Do we have that on hand?" To her, the Mukademon was teaching her the intricacies of tea. Hm. "When you say honors...Do you mean placing the bags within the cups? Or pouring the water once it boils?" She likely did not know what Rinji meant, but a fair guess had to be thrown out there.
"...Hey. Rinji. How do you like your tea? I'd like to know." The Antylamon set to work on cracking the box open so they'd have access to the bags. It was a delicate process for her, but she felt like she knew what to do here...

Discovering Coolmon's interest in electricity left Rinji's heart aflutter. "I learned about the theory from books in the Luminas Library," he explained further after Coolmon's question. "When I saw the title mentioned electricity... I had to read it. It was only when we discovered this lake that I decided to study it and suggested the project." Of course, it was complicated. There was a building in the complex somewhere that was filled to the brim with calculators and diagrams.
"Sugar? It's back here." He craned his body and opted to pick up the entire crate that was behind him. He pushed off the lid and presented it to Coolmon by placing it next to the picnic site. Inside was a big bag of sugar and a giant teaspoon. "I guess I should have figured you had a sweet tooth," he said playfully. It was just like Coolmon.
"You can place as many teabags as how strong you like your tea. But usually about one box would be right. I mean, we're not really human sized at the moment. I guess the tea company didn't expect their customers to be Digimon." Thinking about it, he could've just bought a Digimon brand, but there was something about Earth's tea that he preferred (and secretly hoped Coolmon would be impressed by.)
He continued. "You can pour the water too if you want. It depends on how much milk you want, or it might taste a bit dry." It was probably better if she did, in case he poured too much or too little. The last thing he wanted was to ruin his esteemed guest's tea.
After Coolmon opened her box, Rinji took his own. "How do I like my tea?" He repeated while he scored open the container. "I admit I tend to add more milk and sugar than most people," he admitted. "I suppose we both have a sweet tooth."
Just as Rinji dumped his box worth's of tea into his cup, the kettle started whistling. He looked to Antylamon expectantly, intent that she, as his lady, be the first to pour the water.

"What fortune to be graced with the opportunity to apply such a theory, wouldn't you say?" Was that a smile coming from the Antylamon's face? Yes, yes it was. Though science was far from her forte, she still found it to be somewhat of a fascinating subject. Much like the tea.
Speaking of? "Ah, excellent." The rabbit listened closely to Rinji explaining the...semantics of tea-making. There were a lot of bags--She was actually a little amazed he went out of his way to get these from...Was that from the human world? Mayhaps. "We're one in the same in that regard, then. I put too much sugar in my tea. To the point it almost horrifies some. Now..." The Antylamon grasped for the kettle, before she poured the water.
First, for Rinji. Then for herself. Then she dumped her bunch of tea bags in. "Now, we wait some, yes?" The lady inquired.

Coolmon's comment on the amount of sugar she used in her tea drew a pleasant laugh from Rinji.
"Yep, we can wait a few minutes now," he said chirpily in reply to her query. While they waited, he decided to continue the conversation.
"I'm sure that having too much sugar isn't as detrimental to us as it is to humans," he said plainly. "At least, I've never heard of it having any effects." He paused, as if trying to remember if there ever was any case of a digimon with a diet-related disease.
It was an odd thing to talk about, but it reminded him how nice it was to be in the company of another digimon again. Being with humans wasn't bad, but there were some topics that he just couldn't talk to them about.
"So..." he started, wanting to use the time they had together to catch up. "What have you been up to lately? I never knew you could evolve into an Antylamon."

The Antylamon gave Rinji some nods. "Of course it isn't, we're...far from human, aren't we?" As much as she wanted to believe this was harmless, there was a small hint of uncertainty within the lagomorph's words. They had time, now.
Time for a story, of course. "I've been up to a good few things. We'd be here for a while if I were to describe all of them in exact detail, but to summarize? I got a job. I got my D-Terminal working. My phone's being fixed. Annnd I don't live in Old Terminus anymore. Also, Biyomon are legitimately the worst."
There was a lot of room to question Coolmon on ANY of these subjects, because it seemed like they were all related. "I've been capable of reaching this form for some time, just...I don't know when it became a 'thing' for me." A light blush graced the face of the not-a-Deva. "...Do...you like it?"

Rinji's antennae remained perked in interest as Coolmon recounted her adventures, and like the tea that was brewing before them, his surprise steeped greater and greater at every word.
First of all: she'd gotten a job, and although he'd gone and done practically the same thing, it was a shock to hear that Coolmon, of all mons, was employed. He could only stare at her piercingly. Not out of disdain. He just didn't know any other way of keeping the surprise off his face.
He knew Coolmon, and Coolmon was an adventurer. An explorer and a wanderer. A free spirit. What kind of duty could keep her tethered to one place? Perhaps she'd just gotten fed up of wandering? Or was her line of work more... unusual than what he'd initially assumed?
And she had a D-Terminal now. His mind raced at the implications, and he suddenly realised how much of her life he'd missed, being in a signal-less wasteland. He hadn't even realised that Coolmon's phone had ever broken.
He could only subtly tilt his head at the Biyomon comment. Still, he couldn't suppress an amused grin. Antylamon or not, long distance relationship or not, she was still Coolmon.
And of course, he didn't mind what she was or how she looked like. But still...
"Well..." He said quietly, eyes flitting over her form while acting as if he were inspecting her. "I'm not sure... but for some reason, I think I've always liked rabbits. And you look like a rabbit.
"And," he continued further, "I always thought scarves and graceful digimon were quite fetching, and Antylamon is a graceful form - "
Rinji wanted to keep going, but found that well, he couldn't stop the smile plastering itself on his face, and the light-hearted evaluation petered out. He cleared his throat.
"So, um..." He blushed. "I guess neither of us live where we used to." He referenced the vast underground cavern that acted as his base camp. And he found himself briefly long for Server Forest again.
"Where did you move to?" He asked. "Is it to do with your job? Or the D-Terminal? A tamer? A Biyomon isn't the reason you moved, is it?" The questions were quick-fire, but Coolmon mentioned so many things at once that Rinji couldn't help but try and link them all together in some way.
After all, catching up with Coolmon was exciting.

Was all of this really so surprising to the centipede? Coolmon perked a brow at the growing surprise. She could only assume that her tale was either that entertaining or the prospect of her actually having some form of employment was apparently earth-shattering news.
That, or Rinji just liked hearing her tales. That last one was adorable. "Huh...I guess I must be pretty cute, then? I've always had a fascination with arthropods, myself. That being said...Yes, it seems we're both not living in those places anymore. Um...I moved to this place at the forest called Vander Tower. It's a literal...floaty place of sorts. It's also where my job is, kind of. I haven't met any tamers in a while, but a Biyomon -is- the reason I vacated Old Terminus."
She took a breath. "I kind of invited one over to befriend it and she promptly left, then came back while I was out, broke in, tore my place up and stole my phone. All things considered, she had that beating coming."
...Wait what.
"After that I...just felt like I couldn't stick around. Just packed my bags and left."

"Vander Tower? That floating fortress by Rosewood? Woah. What's it like inside? What do you do?" Until now, Vander Tower had been a distant location hidden in the background of Rinji's second favourite city. But now, Coolmon placed it at the forefront of his thoughts. She was with the Knights of the Rose.
An organisation he'd previously dismissed - was now very important.
He was also now beginning to dislike Biyomon. At least, this Biyomon in particular. A dismayed expression slid across his face as Coolmon recounted her tale of the Digimon trashing the place. Why, if he was there...
"I think I would've beaten her up too," he admitted, feeling justified in that if this Biyomon didn't act like a lady, then he didn't have to treat her like one.
"I wouldn't have minded helping you clean up," he mentioned. If only he'd been there while this Biyomon was about. "At least Vander Tower is nicer than Old Terminus, I assume." The standards weren't hard to beat. Old Terminus was creepy.
Rinji glanced towards the teacups. "Okay," he said. "That should be steeped now." Skilfully, the centipede monster selected a spoon from his crate of things, held it handle-side with his mouth, then flipped the teabags out of both cups.
"Milk and sugar?" He offered first, well aware that Coolmon would want them.
"Say, after we're done here, would you like a tour of the site? I'll probably be living here full-time once it's been completed, so... I guess you might like to know the place? You'd be welcome to stay here whenever you'd like, so I wouldn't want you to get lost."
