CHAPTER III: BACK AT HOME.
Episode 2: Playtime is over! The new evolution that shines upon everything!
Sometimes, the residential district at Shibuya had one of those cold, calm nights, when even the sound of the crickets could be heard. Katherine had come to realize this was something distinctive of the part of the district where she lived, where the first big store or mall was located at least one kilometer away. It was… relaxing. “So… no school tomorrow?” Jazz stuck a spun inside a bowl full of strawberry ice cream. One of the exquisite delicacies the Human World had to offer and that had just been added to the list of things the Lopmon had tasted since her arrival last Saturday, along with Ramen and Empanadas. “It’s good…” she gasped, before whispering these words. Katherine, on her side, kept staring at her D-Terminal, reading a message over and over again. Kazuya had just notified her that he needed to go back to the Digital World to solve very important matters and get some things straight. That meant… she was alone against Void, for now. “Right.” She finally answered her digimon partner’s question. “It’s one a.m. right now, so no school today. It’s November the third, a holiday known as Culture Day.” “So your mom is going to that parade they’re having at…” The bunny couldn’t quite finish her sentence. The Human World had so many places! it was hard to remember all of them. “Osaka, yes. She’s probably taking the train right now.” Katherine assisted her. As most often than not, home alone for Katherine. Or it would be in a regular situation. She now had Jazz at her side to make her company. The green-eyed stared at the Lopmon for a second, her face wrinkled. Her attitude towards her tamer had been rather… odd, lately. It seemed like something was bothering her. Katherine grabbed her cellphone once again. Even if she didn’t have to go to school today, it was an oddity that she was awake at this hour. Up to now, her whole night had consisted in checking news portals, to see if a new power outage had taken place. By now, she was almost sure it was Void causing these. The reason behind that was still her dismay. “No outages yet?”Jazz was finishing her bowl of ice cream. “Not yet.”Silence. It didn’t matter how hard Katherine thought, she couldn’t find a pattern on how Void was moving. Why was he targeting random places across Shibuya and why did he need so much energy? All of this only made her head hurt. “Want to try again?” Whatever it was Void was planning, they had to be prepared, right? Jazz barely nodded, not showing too much confidence. The duo got up to the rooftop of the building. For a six-floored residence, most of the district could be seen from there. There was not a taller building around. Being up there, it was unlikely anyone would see them. “Ready?” Katherine pulled out her digivice. “Y-Yes.”A white, glimmering light began coming out of the gadget, engulfing Jazz immediately. The Lopmon started floating and the words ‘Armored Evolution’ appeared on the device’s screen. A white digimental started materializing through the light, trying to fuse with the bunny’s body. As soon as they made contact, the light faded and the object went back to the digivice. Jazz just fell to the floor’s ground. Even when they had found that digimental and had attempted to reach the new stage it could provide them multiple times, Jazz just couldn’t evolve by using it. Why? Katherine could only wonder. She was able to evolve into Moosemon as soon as they got the Digimental of Support. It couldn’t be denied that, lately, it didn’t seem like anything was working on their favor. Katherine took out her cellphone once again. Could a new outage have occurred already?

A lonely girl and her pet rabbit. A cute image, no matter how you looked at it; proof of a friendship that was yet to bloom; to become even stronger and closer than it was at the moment.
After all, it was rather obvious that something wasn't quite right with them. What could it be? What could it be? It was rather obvious, or maybe it needed some more delving? Was that something even worth pondering? Those and many, many more questions swirled through the night sky, as darkness slowly descended in the general area where Katherine was located.
Suddenly, every light faded. A blackout had enveloped the whole building, and anything near it. By the rooftop, only the stars could provide any measure of illumination to the otherwise pitch-black atmosphere. Shades slowly crept, deeper and more malicious than usual.
Quite obvious by now, but something wasn't quite right there. "Alone in the dark. A little girl stands up." The voice was raspy and deep. Sinister and shady. "Why are you alone, little girl? Where have your friends gone?"
A somber stillness flooded the atmosphere. "Did you have any, to begin with? Or did they run away after the first hardship? I wonder..."
That was all every warning Katherine would get; not an instant afterward, a tendril seemingly made out of pure darkness sprang from the stair's direction, intending to slam directly into her.

A gasp escaped Katherine as soon as everything turned dark, while she checked her cellphone. The rooftop, its surroundings, and the city’s layout had equally been engulfed by darkness. It didn’t take her long to notice it was not a mild obscurity. Shadows seemed to be crawling around her and Jazz as if they were slowly stalking their prey. Silence was at the order of the day.
“It’s happening…” Katherine muttered as they both heard a voice. She and Jazz tried to scan everything with their eyes, trying to look for where their enemy might be. The teenager turned on the flashlight of her cellphone, trying to illuminate the place as much as she could.
As soon as these shadowy tendrils charged against Katherine, Jazz jumped to get in their way, spinning her ears, issuing a tiny swirl to get them off. It was only then when the Spaniard noticed she had been attacked.
“Jazz!” The girl tried to reach for her partner, who had unavoidably been slammed by the tendrils.
Could it be said Katherine and Jazz were terrified? Absolutely. Confused? No doubt. But it couldn’t be said they were surprised.
“I knew you would get to us. I knew it was a matter of time.” The teenager didn’t lose any time. She took out her digivice and a bright light surrounded Jazz’s body, illuminating the scene and hopefully making the dark tendrils take their distance. Once the light faded, a Chohakkaimon had appeared.
This time, Jazz didn’t show the usual effusive attitude she used to bestow in this form. She still seemed dead serious, her eyes scanning the place, looking for a lead. Maybe it could even be said hesitation could be found in her expression.
Was this the same Void from the forest? This talkative, over-confident creature? If he was, Katherine knew what she had to do.
“I don’t get it. You have the gem, why are you looking for us?” The teenager threw out some questions, only to stall the combat and be able to think on a plan or discern her opponent’s location. For her, it was obvious Void already knew they had three Zoid Gems in their power at this point. But… could there be more to this sudden attack?
“Is it about revenge?” After all, the duo had been the causers his absolute control over that portion of the Server Woods was lost. If it weren’t for them, the siblings of the forest had never found Void. Kiriha had not evolved and the Digitamamon had not been forced to escape to the Human World.
It was then an understatement to say Void had reasons to despite Katherine and Jazz.
The question of whether they were ready to face this or not kept swirling inside the girl’s head. She kept getting the same answer:
No way they were.

Something as puny as a cellphone wouldn't provide more than temporary relief from the darkness assaulting the duo; it was akin to trying to apply a bandaid to a deep wound. They would notice the general shape of the Digitamamon moving on and about, or maybe it was just a trick being played like the swirling shades?
It couldn't be known for certain, at least not if they didn't try. Could they, though? The tendril that was meant to attack Katherine had mercilessly mauled Jazz. The assault would've resumed with renewed vigor if it weren't for the light of evolution; that had given the duo some breathing room, even if the shadows began encroaching as soon as that shine receded.
Void's figure had been revealed as well. The Digitamamon had been near the stairs on that moment, at least if either the girl or the digimon had paid any attention to it. Most likely, he had moved, but... a clue was better than nothing at all, right?
"Are you prepared, little girl? Why it seems you're not? Afraid of the dark?" This time, three different tendrils to lash towards Katherine, all coming from different directions. For now, it seemed like the creature wasn't taking Jazz seriously, or maybe wanted to lure her into acting as the girl's shield. Both were unfavorable positions.
Chances are that this was the same Void that they had seen in the past with the difference that he was being played by another person, yet... he seemed different. This time, it seemed like the Digitamamon wouldn't toy with his prey. He would maul Jazz until she was at the brink of death, and then goad until he was satisfied.
Just then, the moment for the finishing blow would come.
"Why am I here, little girl?" His tone was mirthful, bordering laughter. "Pin it to any reason you want. Truth is... I just really wanted to be the one. The one to gaze at both your bodies, broken in the floor. To see that as my handiwork. That is the reason why I am here."

The time Jazz had bought with her defensive tactic and the evolution light that had kept the shadows away for some seconds was only ephemeral. The darkness kept circling around Katherine and these tendrils were drawing closer by the second.
Katherine’s green irises widened upon noticing her flashlight at least had a bit of an effect over these things. Maybe that amount of light would be enough to draw one of those away?
As soon as the next onset began, Jazz jumped in front of Katherine, trying to protect her from the upcoming shadows. Her body managed to block one of the three tendrils, while her hammer materialized just in time to stop another. Katherine did her part by pointing her flashlight at the third one, attempting to make it withdraw.
Even if that striking tendril hurt for Jazz, the duo managed to come out of this attack rather unscratched. They both were aware Void could do a lot more. So it was just a matter of time for these bandaids to prove to be insufficient.
Furthermore, the Digitamamon was right. She was not prepared. They were not prepared. Void seemed to be serious from the get go. After making a fool of last time, it seemed like he wasn’t risking it this time around. He wanted to crush them as soon as possible. Not only his actions proved this, but his way of speaking too. He seemed a lot more treacherous. A lot more sinister. A lot more sadistic.
This only pushed Katherine to think faster. Luckily, the time the enemy had taken to utter his words had given her a bit of a breach to act, not to mention some shivers running down her spine. The Spaniard slid her backpack to the front and took out a bright, blue-colored gem. This was the only plan they had prepared. She knew the Lazuli Zoid Gem could teleport objects or beings whenever the user pictured them. Just like Kokatorimon had done it in the past. Just like Luke did on the train. She had even taken the time to practice this with Jazz, since Monday night.
“This better work…” Katherine closed her eyes hard, trying to concentrate. Jazz immediately placed a hand on her shoulder, while her limb holding the hammer seemed prepared to defend her tamer.
Where would they go? Somewhere with light. The Digital World? She tried to picture it, she tried to recreate that image in her head. A street in Whitewater city, the beach…
... the image wasn’t clear. It wasn’t perfect. She was too nervous to actually place that image inside her head. She couldn’t quite get off her head the fact that Void was about to kill her.
The gem was not working. This was taking too long.

Ineffective. That's how Katherine's and Jazz's actions could be defined. Unfocused, and they lacked finesse; they were the
The time Jazz had bought with her defensive tactic and the evolution light that had kept the shadows away for some seconds was only ephemeral. The darkness kept circling around Katherine and these tendrils were drawing closer by the second. They wouldn't be able to handle a frontal assault; that mere idea would be enough to plaster a grin on Void's otherwise inexistent features.
Bold of them to confront him like this. Did they think they had a ghost of a chance in this fight? That, or it had been really careless. And stupid. However... his otherwise narrow eyes widened a bit as soon as the gem was brought out. That was their plan, huh? Well, it better be good, mostly because it prompted Void to take things seriously.
Whether the attempt had worked or not. This time the Digitamamon's visage would become rather obvious. Imposing, and enveloped in the swirling shadows.
A disk of darkness was amassed in front of him. Playtime was over.
The attack was sent in the duo's direction; its power was overwhelming, and not even avoiding the initial attack would completely keep them out of harm's way. Wherever the attack would impact, a dark explosion would ensue, further damaging the building and anyone near it.

It seemed like Void had granted them a breach of time. Naturally, while he prepared something more awful and destructive to throw at them. Meanwhile, even if the tendrils of darkness kept circling around them, they had some time to act. The downside? It wasn’t plenty and, if they failed to dodge it, they won’t be having any other chances. The energy that circled around this incoming attack was overwhelming. For the first time, it seemed like he was using a technique, a real one.
Jazz took a step forward, standing before Katherine and in the way of the disk, while it kept spinning in front of Void.
Katherine closed her eyes again. Tightly this time around. There was no running, there was no dodging that could save them from this. She needed this gem to work. Somehow.
In her nervousness, she tried to picture other places inside her head, still touching Jazz with her left hand. Places that she could quite imagine more vividly, even during such a desperate situation. It was really hard to find any but...
Soon enough, the Spaniard had to recur to places in Shibuya itself. She felt she remembered her classroom vividly, but the gem wasn't taking her there. Why? Was it because she couldn’t imagine it how it looked at this exact moment? She had never seen her classroom at night, after all.
Then… what could she imagine that she knew how it looked like right now, at this very instant? The roof, of course. But what else?
As soon as Katherine imagined her bedroom, the sound of the spinning disk Void had created stopped reaching her ears.
She opened her eyes. Jazz was still in front of her. They were in her bedroom. Of course, the whole room was completely darkened, victim of the blackout. The sound of something exploding above them reached them. Void had shot.
“Let’s go!” She urged her partner to move, running to the exit of the bedroom, making her way out of the apartment. For being in her Chohakkaimon form, Jazz seemed completely docile. Completely helpless.
It was a matter of time before Void got to them. He was extremely close. Katherine just couldn’t stop shaking. Her partner only followed her. Whoever knew them would know this was not how Katherine and Jazz acted. This was just not them.
Was this caused by Void or... was there some other thought that was troubling them?
They just kept running down the stairs filled with darkness. Without a plan. Without a choice. Without hope.

Sure, it was true that Katherine's and Jazz's parlor tricks had worked, that much was obvious to Void, even though he could sense the duo's new location rather easily. This would become a really boring game of cat and mouse if things keep on that way, but that was okay. The fact that they thought they would be able to put up any kind of resistance was laughable, yet... not even the Digitamamon expected such a paltry show. It wasn't even entertaining.
But that was fine. If the duo wouldn't be a challenge, there was no point on postponing the coup de grace. Time to finish the pair for good. From one moment to the next, Void's body disappeared in a cloud of darkness.
So, what about Katherine and Jazz? They were running desperately; this had turned out awry from one moment to the next, that remaining as something heavily disconcerting. Had this been their plan all along? Why hadn't they considered on getting help of some kind? Would they be able to survive such a fight? Those and many other questions remained as a mystery.
Why was that? Mostly because Void would appear directly in front of the group as they tried to exit the apartment complex. "Little girl and her piggy. Where were you going? Don't want to play anymore?" Suddenly, the atmosphere grew even heavier than before; even the mere act of standing seemed was painfully exhausting. "What happened? Piggy-girl lost her will to fight after her boyfriend left her? What a pity!"
The digimon's tone was vicious. Darkness began to swirl around it, expanding outward and cutting everything on its path. "You two may be able to meet again in the next life!"

For a second, Katherine was afraid someone might see Jazz and her running down the stairs. However, she started noticing how this darkness was much more than a blackout. It was thick, it was dense. It was almost as if the moon wasn’t shinning up above at all, and walking was getting harder by the second. No one could see them, even if they wanted to.
The duo managed to leave the building. Katherine took a glance at the street filled with darkness. Jazz just stood behind her, looking dubious. After pondering for some seconds, she decided she was not risking it. Being spotted right now could only be worse for them, if that was possible.
Why? Why did she come here without a plan? What was she even doing? Incapable of running away. Incapable of protecting her partner. Katherine was nothing in front of Void. There was nothing she could do.
The Spaniard decided to turn back and made her way through an alley, right next to the building they had just abandoned. She couldn’t believe there wasn’t a single power plant working around these buildings. Her green eyes tried to see the floor, but even that was hard. The moonlight looked dim and it hardly illuminated anything. Could Void have even taken the energy of the power plants around? How had he managed to leave Shibuya without a single trace of light?
The inevitable happened. Katherine tripped on something she couldn't even see and fell to the ground.
"Jasso…!” Jazz approached her and tried to help her stand up. While the human attempted to stand, she slipped from the Chohakkaimon’s grip and fell to the ground again. As this happened, Void’s figure started to form from between the shadows.
Maybe it was something symbolic. Maybe this just showed it was the end and she couldn't keep going. Maybe this just went to show it didn’t make sense to try to escape anymore.
“Jasso… Let’s go…” Jazz barely muttered as if the words had been pulled out from her.
“Where!?” Katherine yelled. Her expression that, up to now only showed fear, had broken into resignation and sadness. “Where are we even going, huh!? Tell me!”
Jazz’s eyes widened. She stepped back.
“It’s hopeless! We’re hopeless! I’m not strong enough to do this! I can’t beat Void.” The curly-haired girl raised both hands to cover her face. “I’m the reason you can’t evolve! It’s because I’m weak! People can’t rely on me! That’s why Kazuya left. That's why Amy had to risk her life to save me and that’s why we barely made it out of the forest!” Her yelling was intense. Her words weren’t plagued with anger, however. They were plagued with mere sadness.
“No…” Jazz’s eyes started tearing up. “Don’t say that… That’s not true…”
What had happened to them? Whatever had happened to the unbeatable team that saved Rococo Village. Whatever happened to the determination that solved the case and saved Kokatorimon and Okimi? Whatever happened to the resilience that made them win the race? Was it gone for good?
While Jazz faced Katherine, she heard Void’s voice around her back.
“… It’s not your fault, Katherine!” Jazz shouted, closing her eyes. She ignored the egg’s words for now, as everything around them just fell into pitch-black darkness.
Silence. The human opened a space between her fingers, only to peek and look at Jazz. Did she just… call her Katherine?
“It’s me, okay? I can’t evolve. I can’t evolve because…” The Chohakkaimon let out a sigh. “… because…”Her eyes escaped Katherine's. She seemed to be having trouble to even utter these words.
“Stop mak-“
“It's because I’m scared, okay!?”
A complete new emotion in Jazz’s repertory. At least when she was a Chohakkaimon. When was the last time she said she was scared? Was it back at the desert, when Lava and Andrea were fighting?
Why? What had happened for them to drift off from that happy picture when they swore to fight together as partners?
A warm sensation got to Katherine’s skin. There was something forming below Jazz. Was that… a trace of light? Something was slowly illuminating the environment. As it grew, Katherine realized it was… fire. It was… actually coming from Jazz.
“Probably we will meet in the next life…” Jazz finally answered Void.
“… But... if that’s the case…” Her Roketto Dingpa materialized in her right hand. The fire grew stronger around her body, illuminating their surroundings. Jazz jumped towards Void, smashing her hammer at him with all of her might.
“… I’ll die trying to eliminate you!”

The exchange between Katherine and Jazz was touching. A tender moment, where two destined partners exchanged their insecurities and that had for result their mutual growth as individuals. Acceptance of their flaws, and reaffirming the vows to walk the same path, together.
Chances are that they would need every ounce of that bond to face Void, who was currently tapping his feet while waiting for the two to finish their exchange looming menacingly over the two girls. Could it be that they have gotten a second wind? It seemed like it, even though that would only make the fight all the more fun. The Digitamamon would break the combatants as many times as necessary, and no matter how much they rose up, their fate would be the same, nonetheless.
They would perish
Void's confidence faltered a bit when the flames made the darkness recede, but it was just a matter of time. Those flames would be snuffed out. And with them, Jazz would finally fall. "Well. At least there you're right." The digimon mused, its featureless expression becoming arrogant and aggressive. "You will die."
To say that Jazz's hammer had injured boy was correct. The eggshell produced a visibly cracking sound when the motorized rake impacted on it. However... That was just a mere stratagem. "But since you seem to be so eager to run towards your death!"
Dark Energy condensed in front of Void's shell once again, even though it just exploded in a shadowy blast as soon as enough had been gathered, rather than forming a disk. Such a close ranged attack, even in the relative presence of light, would probably be quite damaging.

Even though their helplessness and how desperate the whole situation was, Katherine was still a bit fazed by the apparition of this flame. Where was that fire even coming from? It grew from below Jazz’s feet and raised above her waist as if it was trying to cover her whole body. Even if the teenager was aware she probably hadn’t seen all of the tricks her partner’s Chohakkaimon form could offer, this was definitely an oddity. Jazz had never proved to be a fire element digimon, neither had she used a fire-attribute attack in this or any of her forms. Then… why?
And what was even more: why did this fire felt… familiar?
Whether Katherine lacked the information to answer these questions or the situation was just stopping her from thinking clearly, it was obvious she couldn’t reach an answer right now. At the moment, Jazz had decided to ram against the egg, acting as relentless as the Chohakkaimon Katherine knew.
Fighting against all of those fears that went through her body, Katherine managed to stand up, and take some steps away from the danger. The shadows that were circling around them seemed to have backed away a bit thanks to the light brought to the alleyway by the fire. She now could actually see her partner smashing Void. Even if the cracking sound denoted he could have been harmed, the fact of him not even moving an inch after such impact only terrorized her. What was coming next was rather obvious when energy started gathering around Void. But it happened too quick for it to be avoided.
Jazz was propelled back, flying through the alley and breaking a metallic fence by the end of it. By going through this fence, her body entered what seemed to be like an open garage. A sort of ‘backyard’ that the buildings around that area seemed to share. The pig-girl’s body crashed against a set of wooden crates, aggressively, breaking them. Thanks to the fire making the shadows back away, Katherine took the opportunity and followed the light of the fire her partner kept emitting and entered this space, taking a safe distance from the battle once again. This area was definitely wider than that alley.
From there, Katherine could see the wood of these crates had caught fire due to the contact with Jazz’s body. This formed a sort of 'fireplace' at the place where she had landed. Of course, the fire was barely enough for Katherine to see the battle happening in front of her, and definitely not enough to make Void or the darkness back down.
Slowly, Jazz managed to reincorporate. She was clenching her teeth and her eyes denoted pain. Katherine could only imagine how much had that hurt. For how long could her partner square off against an ultimate-level digimon? Right now, the human girl could only feel they had cornered themselves even more. Using the Lazuli Zoid Gem seemed out of question right now. Taking the artifact out and trying to use it would only make Void to attack her faster, forcing Jazz to defend her. Nothing close to an escape plan came to girl's head.
Jazz, on her side, extended her right hand and made her Roketto Dingpa appear again. The fire grew stronger around her and she charged against Void once again, trying to clobber him with her weapon at full throttle. She was not fighting to win. Katherine could feel that with just looking at her go. The energy her partner showed was different, she was still full of doubts. She was still scared.
Time was running out. Right now, trying to think about a way of winning seemed absurd. The teenager could only try to strategize a way of living another day.

The Cho-Hakkaimon had been violently smashed against the side of the building, yet still willed to stand up after receiving such an attack at point-blank range. Commendable, even if ultimately annoying; couldn't the digimon see that she was doomed to fail, no matter what she tried? No matter.
Knock somebody down enough times, and no matter what, they'd stop standing up at some point. The cracks on Void's shell began to heal while Jazz incorporated. Her assault, while brave, would prove to be ultimately in vain unless she managed to strike harder at the ultimate level.
It was a sad truth, but the power gap was way too great for this to be an even match. More than that, it seemed like a fly desperately trying to fight while trapped inside a spider's web. It wouldn't go well.
Once again, she was going to attempt a frontal attack. That digimon couldn't strategize to save her life, could she? Void didn't make an effort to move, despite the violent nature of the attack that was about to impact on him. Yet again, the cracking sounds were evident even if the Digitamamon himself seemed to be uncomfortable with the result of that attack.
"You will never stop being a brat, will you?" He hissed, apparently through clenched teeth. "I'm beginning to grow bored of you. Die already." Another dark blast exploded where the duo was located, this one easily twice as strong than the previous. Would Jazz be able to withstand that kind of onslaught?
Time to see that.

Interestingly, Jazz’s fire not being enough to debilitate Void’s darkness was both an excellent metaphor and the painful reality. The Digitamamon’s power was way out of her reach right now and that much was proved when Jazz stroke him again. Cracks appeared again, but it just hadn’t been enough! Katherine knew what was coming, so she just threw herself onto the ground, next to the fire, hoping that would protect her from any piece of darkness that could be released from Void’s next technique. Luckily, it did.
Like a reboot, the monster released a blast of energy that sent Jazz jutted against another wall, this time breaking further into the building’s structure and destroying more bricks. This one hurt a lot more than the last one and left Jazz down for a while longer. But, just like the last time, Jazz slowly got up again. The words the Chohakkaimon had uttered before charging against Void then came to Katherine’s head. She had said she was probably going to die here, and she was willing to do it.
Was there anything left to do? How could they escape someone who controlled darkness by being in complete obscurity? They were at his terrain and they couldn’t bring any significant source of light into the table to make Void step back.
Again, Jazz seemed to be about to use a technique that was completely unknown to Katherine so far. It made sense the digimon was using whatever was in her arsenal right now. Could it be she knew how to do this one all along, or had she just improvised it now that she had this fire swirling around her?
“You know the good thing about knowing you’re going to die?” The Roketto Dingpaa vanished from the pig-girl’s hand. She had an expression that only denoted pain. Suddenly, wind started swirling around her too. Now it was like a small gust of fire was surrounding her. The sound of the floor cracking got to Katherine’s ears. Had she gotten a lot heavier? No… She was bouncing on the same spot with great agility as if her speed had increased.
“What is she…?” Katherine started muttering a question for herself. This was definitely something new on her partner's book.
Jazz, on her side, finished her sentence, answering her own question. “You get to surpass your limit, regardless of what it can do to your body.” A smirk appeared on the digimon face. Just like that, she charged against the Digitamamon, this time moving at great speed.
The first thing Void would notice was that her movements had become a lot swifter. Her punches were thrown faster. Her whole mobility had increased. She couldn’t use her hammer in this form, apparently. However, as this fire kept circling around her, Jazz was throwing one punch after the other at him, trying to do as much damage as possible. These punches were heavier, they were mightier.
Being this close, it was likely Void would notice Jazz’s movements, although powerful in essence, were, still, full of doubts. They lacked conviction. They lacked the sole trust that she could win this. And Void was probably the only one who knew why.
When he created that illusion for Katherine back in the server woods, the roles were filled with people inside the teenager’s mind. However, Jazz wasn’t there. And he knew she was hurt about this. He, more than anyone else, knew this was filling her head with doubts and hesitation. So, being Void as he was, it was likely he would throw at least a comment regarding this. That would definitely throw this lit-up pig off balance.
“Katherine…” As she stared at the battle, kneeling over the floor, the sound of a voice calling her got to the Spaniard’s ears. At first, she flinched. Then, her green eyes scanned everything around her. Where was this coming from? There was no one else there.
“Katherine! Jazz! Are you there? I think I can see you!”
It didn’t take long for the curly-haired girl to notice what was calling her was… the fire burning next to her, lighten from those wooden crates Jazz had smashed earlier with her body.
They had caught on fire and now a voice was coming from that flame, calling for her. It was soft and dim, so it was likely Void couldn't hear it. Besides, he had his own 'hands' full, at the moment.

Once again, Jazz had been brutally knocked back by Void's attack. The more violent version had caused the desired effect; to drain the Cho-Hakkaimon's will to fight. To reduce it little by little until that flame would be little less than candlelight in the presence of the Digitamamon.
Just then, it would be snuffed.
In all honesty, it was expected that his opponent would hold onto hopes until the last second. It was expected to see her fight and do her best. It was expected to see her talk about ideals or her convictions, or even make an attempt to face her grim fate on a positive note.
"It's for naught." He sentences, his voice devoid of the emotion it had before. "Even if rats are the most dangerous when they are cornered, they're still rats. Your miracle won't happen. Attempt what you want, but no matter what, the end will be the same. You will perish."
So what if she had gotten a powerup? No matter how much she tried, her efforts would be for naught. Yet... why her blows were actually painful this time? Void didn't know what was happening, but he didn't like it one bit. It was true that Jazz had gained power, and that power wouldn't be enough to beat him, but... a sense of alarm began to grow within his mind.
Better to stop playing be done with this already.
Jazz's blows impacted in the relatively slow digimon's shell. Unlike the previous attacks, they managed to injure Void, even if none of those were noteworthy. She still doubted.
"So, that's everything you've got?" His tone went back to its cruel, mocking nature. "You gave a small speech on behalf of that lousy show? Now, let me show you how that's done."
Several tendrils made out of pure darkness began to amass around the perimeter that surrounded both fights. It was true that the digimon was faster now, but did that amount to anything if she was going to be struck from every possible direction? Like a wave, the tendrils moved into the circle's radius, slicing anything in their path like a hot knife through butter.
Time for playtime to end.

This was Void. Treacherous. Evil. Full of mockery. He was so full of himself he seemed to be enjoying every one of Jazz’s futile attempts to hurt him. Considering what he was like, could he really be blamed? He was completely dominating this combat.
What was even worse, darkness had begun circling around this improvised stage now. Tendrils were surrounding the area, moving unsettlingly. Right now, Jazz tried to ignore Void’s comments and kept clobbering him as hard as she could. The fire around her kept burning as she kept throwing punches, one after the other. This didn’t seem to be having much effect, but it was everything she had. For now.
Seeing these shapes moving around them only made Katherine more scared. Especially because the circle was closing in! The tendrils were moving towards the center of the figure, which was currently occupied by Void and Jazz. Judging by the shape of these tendrils, Katherine could tell this was very similar to the technique that had defeated Jazz the last time they faced Void, back at the forest. Whenever the tendrils reached the center, it was likely Jazz was going to receive a blow she couldn’t get up from. That being said, what was going to happen to Katherine, a simple human, if she was in their way? The answer, though obvious, was not pretty.
“Mrs. Jasso! Can you hear us? We need you to answer, now!”
Those voices reached her again. 'Mrs. Jasso'? Who called her like that? It was almost as if she didn’t focus in these flames, she wouldn’t be able to actually listen to these voices. What were they trying to tell her? Knowing she didn’t have much of a choice and considering they sounded extremely familiar, she decided to actually listen.
“I can hear you!” The green-eyed muttered, trying to hide her desperation in order to make sure Void couldn’t hear her. Whoever was on the other side sounded very glad.
“It worked. You actually did it, Jaenryu.” A much lazier voice, still with an excited ring to it, could be heard.
“Jaen…ryu?” Was that…? “Akane? Kiriha?” Katherine asked, still trying to keep her tone down. Her green eyes could see the tendrils closing in. They had almost reached her!
“Jump inside, Mrs. Jasso!”
Inside of what!? For a second, the teenager hesitated. It was almost as if she was choosing between dying from Void’s technique or burn to death by these flames. Considering there were voices of digimon she actually cared about coming from the fire, that seemed like the best guess. So she did. She stood up, gave two steps forward and jumped inside the flames. For a second, Katherine just vanished inside. She was just… not there anymore.
Even if this took the tamer out of danger, it didn’t mean the tendrils had stopped moving towards Jazz. The Chohakkaimon had, in fact, noticed the darkness drawing in towards her. But… did it really make any sense to try and run away from those? She was completely surrounded. It didn’t seem like she could dodge these.
The aforementioned realization meant she only had one thing left to do. Which was, in fact, what she had promised to do. Die fighting.
What was previously a wisp had turned into a massive fire. What was a burnout had turned into a flame. What was only a flash had turned into light. The fire surrounding Jazz had grown. It had grown so much it had illuminated this warehouse and everything within it. A gigantic flame of almost 5 meters of height was covering the center of the circle. Naturally, this would make the circling tendrils to draw back at the light. If Void wanted these shadows to actually reach the center, he would have to use a whole lot more of power here. He would have to put more energy into his technique.
All the while, Jazz kept throwing punches. The next one was always thrown faster and with more strength than the previous one. She just wouldn’t stop, not until her core was destroyed.
This was a test of strength. Strategies and planning were completely off the table now. It didn’t matter anymore. This was Void vs Jazz. Even if there was a clear difference in power, Jazz’s will was making her go the extra mile to be a serious contender. Even if her doubts were still there, this was the pure survival instinct of a digimon who wanted to live. If the Digitamamon wanted to stop this pig from punching him, he would have to seriously consider her a contender for once in this fight and give a lot more of what he was giving.
It was time for Void to strike that final blow and get this over with.
