Apparently, Katherine a bit too shy to try the karaoke thing. She was even making up what, at least to Amelie, were silly excuses. She was about to respond to them... but Jazz beat her to it. Her rebuttal was nothing less than brilliant. Ooi found herself guffawing and Amy herself couldn't contain a chuckle. "Not into boys, huh? I can kinda see that." That scene at Liquid's shack replayed in the back of the brunette's head. Had that been playful teasing, after all? "No shame on coming out of the closet, though. Not like we'll think any different about you. Right, Ooi?" The shorter girl nodded at the statement, despite the fact that she was still fighting off the last vestiges of her laughter. "With somebody like Amy around, I can see how anyone would think that girls are cuter than boys, anyway." Now it was the taller girl's turn, it seemed! Her cheeks showed hints of flaring on a faint reddish hue. "That was a cheap shot, you know? I wasn't ready for it." Teasing others was okay. Being teased was totally unfair! "That was the whole point." Of course that Ooi was chuckling again. "Sides, I think you two would make a cute couple. Right, Jazz?" Okay, okay. That was getting a bit excessive. But since resisting it was probably going to make things worse, Amy decided to play along. "Come on. I think that Katherine deserves somebody better, anyway. A good person would be better, for starters." A shrug punctuated her sentence. It came with her 'I don't consider myself a good person' spiel. Ooi rolled her eyes. "Never letting go of that broken record, are we? You should relax, girl. Else you're gonna get cut with that edge." She couldn't avoid giggling at the comment. What could she say? Her friend was at least partially right. In any case, she poured herself another glass of daiquiri as Jazz showed her intentions about watching and Katherine finally decided to participate. It seemed that the first two singers would be that pair of best friends! As the brunette entered the program's interface and began to choose minutiae like the game mode and such, her shorter friend decided to reassure the Lopmon. "Don't worry, the lyrics appear on the screen. The hard part is getting used to a specific song's rhythm, but I think I can help you with that. What kinda songs do you like?" Depending on her answer, she'd choose an appropriate song from her phone and plug the device's earphones on Jazz's ears. With any luck, she'd like it! What about Amelie and Katherine? She wanted a well-known song that wasn't in Japanese. Well, that was easy enough! Would she push some buttons? Probably not at first! The different tracks danced through the screen, until... they stopped on a song that the girl would probably appreciate. At least if she had heard it before! "Not taking responsibility if you don't know this one! It's even in Spanish, except for a small part that's in some kind of middle eastern gibberish. But that's part of the fun, isn't it?" Without further ado, the song began playing.

If there was any good to all of this was the fact that the dull topic of the Zoid Gems being stolen from them was long gone. It was even hard to remember something like that right now, Katherine was more worried about her friends thinking she liked them that way and Jazz was just laughing at the outcome of the whole situation.
“I am into boys, I swear!” She was! “I don’t need to come out of nowhere.” The question was… was she into a gender further than the male gender? To put it into a simpler sentence: was she into girls, too? She shook her head, getting rid of those thoughts.
Luckily, Ooi’s next comment seemed to have at least made Amelie a little flustered this time. That was only fair, now! Katherine let out a chuckle. “Did you just blush?” Honestly, seeing Amy like that was not a normal sight. It was kind of cute, though.
“You’re right.” Jazz nodded quickly. “Shisei is super pretty. I am totally into her.”
To this, the Spaniard only let out a sigh. “You don’t even know what that means.” About Ooi's piece of insight... “A cute couple…?” Katherine blinked twice, blushing madly.
And considering Jazz had been asked her opinion about that suggestion, the bunny had something to say. “No way! Shisei is mine. I already said I was the one into her. Kath is too silly to admit her feelings so she doesn’t get to…” The Lopmon was interrupted by a couple of hands, wrapping around her and lifting her from the table where she was standing.
Katherine was hugging her tight. “You can’t be with Amy, because you’re mine.” Welp, where did that come from!? “K-Kath…” “You told me to be honest about my feelings didn’t you?" The Spaniard added, sounding death-serious. "I love you. And I don't want you to be with anyone else.” Now it was the Lopmon blushing like crazy! “S-Silly. Of course I’ll stay with you.”
To this, a smile was drawn in Katherine’s lips. Hearing that felt… nice.
Leaving that corny moment behind…!
“Amy is a very good person. She saved my life.” Katherine noted. She shouldn’t even have to clarify that! That much was obvious for everyone in the room, except maybe Amelie herself. “If she and I were a couple... kissing would be hard, though. She’s too tall for me.” Now that she had relaxed a bit, she was able to joke about it too. Although that wasn’t entirely a joke, it would be a difficult task!
If no one poured another glass of alcohol for Katherine, she wouldn’t do it herself.
Now, Jazz tried to think about what kind of song she would like. “I really haven’t listened much to human music but… maybe something with an… electric guitar, was it called? No screaming though.” She had been browsing through Katherine’s library some days ago, even asking Katherine about some of the musical instruments that she could hear in those songs. So she wasn’t completely lost for options.
As Amelie chose the song, Katherine’s eyes widened. Surprising to find that one here, no doubt. “Middle eastern gibberish.” She giggled. “Don’t worry, I know it.”
At first, Katherine just held tight to her microphone, almost frozen in front of the screen, trying to properly read the lyrics and not mess anything up. When the song reached its first minute or so, Katherine started… loosening up, even dancing a little. She had forgotten how much she liked this song. Her mother listened to it a lot, and she used to sing it when she was a kid. Regarding her singing skills? Let's just say she was one of those types of people that don't sing well at all, but try very hard so it doesn't sound totally appalling.
At some point, she was really just going with the flow! When the song finished, Katherine was even a bit sweaty. A bit embarrassed, too. She just lowered her gaze, taking some steps away from the screen. Who had been the winner? Did it even matter?
“That was… fun.” She confessed. Did Amelie know any Spanish? That was a fairly interesting question. “Do you know what the song talks about?”
Jazz, still having Ooi’s headphones in her ears, just stared at her tamer and Amelie as they finished.
“Amazing.”

An entertained snicker came out of both Ooi's and Amelie's mouths when Katherine decided to stalwartly protect her sexual orientation. Was it that big of a deal? Not really; it came without saying that the two of them would accept their friend no matter what. "Sure, sure." Amy answered coyly. "At least according to Jazz, I'd say that your taste in boys is very interesting!" Of course, that comment was incredibly short-lived, considering how Ooi's followup had put her on a precarious situation. The blush receded, but the damage had already been done. "I totally didn't." She replied dismissively. There was simply no way for her to admit that out loud. Luckily, the topic would move fast enough, with everyone piling up comments that got juicier with each passing second. Ooi nodded, somewhat smugly at Jazz's comments. And, in a very strange show, the blush on the brunette's face returned at the sentence that was timely cut short by Katherine's intervention. That had been a rather close call! Before she could say anything about it, however. The conversation followed on with a pretty ridiculous reveal, even if it seemed like it'd be enough to diffuse the situation. "My, my." The shorter girl remarked, a smirk already adorning her face. "That was quite the reveal. What can I say? You two definitely are a cute couple. I can get behind it, even though I'm not sure how the details would work. But as I said before... I'm not gonna judge you for it." That was probably enough for that topic. Instead of focusing on the fact that everyone was pretty much hellbent on her niceness. Just as much as she was on her not-niceness; quite the confrontation! There was a comment she couldn't miss from the sentences that followed, though. "My height wouldn't be the most pressing issue, anyway." Amelie replied, not missing a beat. "Chances are I'd just bounce off your boobs if I tried to lean in, anyway. Those are way too big." She wasn't above joking about it, either. And now that she noted, the girl's glass had been empty for quite a while. What was she waiting for? One thing was for sure; the brunette wasn't letting that continue for long. Unceremoniously, and with a smooth movement, she made sure that her glass wasn't empty anymore. Jazz's own musical interests were pretty interesting! But, luckily, Ooi had her covered. With any luck, that'd strike her fancy. What about Katherine and Amelie? At plain sight, and after the curly-haired girl had let loose, it seemed like the two were finally enjoying themselves. About time, honestly! It had been a somewhat tiresome night in regards to feeling and such, but at least it was beginning to look up. That was good. Once the song finished, the scoreboard showed a somewhat even result, mostly on the back of Katherine being too uptight and first and Amelie frankly not caring about hitting the notes instead of having fun. The result slightly favored the former, even! "Welp. It's not too late to admit defeat, Curls." The brunette said, obviously taking it as if the lower score was the winner, even if that wasn't precisely true. "You can surrender at any time." She took a second to rest her voice a bit before continuing. "Of course it's fun. That's what Karaoke is about, after all." A small laugh escaped her lips. "And of course I do. I'm actually quite decent at Spanish! Probably not on your level, though. Beating native speakers is hard." Still smiling brightly at the result, she gestured at her friend again. "So, wanna sing something else, or do you prefer to leave the stage to Ooi and Jazz? I'll even let you pick the song if you wanna keep on. As long as it's in a language I can understand, I'll be fine." And even if it wasn't, she could try.

After the whole swarm of embarrassing comments that included Katherine blushing madly about things like the size of her chest or her sexual preferences, the night went on quite smoothly. Especially, once Katherine finally let loose and karaoke’d her way through the evening. “You don’t think I’m that dumb, do you? Why would the lower score win?”
One glass after the other. One song after the other. All the while, Jazz kept drinking and trying to learn the songs Ooi put for her, while she watched the humans go through a pretty lengthy round of songs (and drinks). However, the bunny had decided to listen to and practice a different song. One she could actually remember from Katherine’s playlist! Surprisingly, she felt more confident singing songs in Japanese. Would she perform well enough? Well, they would soon find out. As another song finished (the tenth-in-a-row they sang) Amelie and Katherine sat down again. It was finally time for a break. “Are you ready to go?” The question the curly-haired girl had been throwing the digimon’s way right after the last three rounds. It was clear she was ready to tag. She had made up her mind, while singing, funnily enough. This time, however, the answer coming from the bunny was different. “I am.” She answered with a nod. Was she? Well, there was only one way to know! Actually trying! “I really hope you don’t laugh!” Jazz hopped down her chair, looking at Ooi. It was now the turn for the raven-haired girl and the Lopmon. “Do you… have a second?” Still holding a half-full glass in her hand (she had lost count about how many she had had, though), Katherine looked at Amelie. “There’s something I want to talk to you about. Something I made my mind about recently.”Even if she could not actually tell the exact amount of alcohol she had ingested, her slightly red cheeks and messy hair showed Katherine was at least slightly inebriated. Was this related to the fact she had decided to tell this to her friend? Probably not. Maybe it had just given her the courage to do it. Jazz, who was definitely not even nearly as drunk as Katherine (not because she had drunk any less), glanced at her partner for a second. The words her tamer had issued… they definitely sounded like she was going to tell Amelie that thing they had talked about before. Even before their lives were at stake some nights ago. “Are you going to…?” “Yes.”
A smirk was drawn on Jazz’s face. “Do you want me to…?” “No.” Katherine shook her head. “I need to do this by myself.” A pause. “I just need to know… are you okay with it?”“I-I…” Jazz stuttered. Seeing her tamer’s eyes full of determination (and alcohol), she ended up nodding. “… Yes. Do it.”Finally, Katherine turned to face the blue-eyed teenager. “Is there any place where we can talk? Just… the two of us. Some place with fresh air, preferably.”Once they had left, Jazz stood in front of the screen to then turn her head towards Ooi. “I’m ready. Play that song.”Now, Ooi should play the song Jazz had chosen to sing. It was even a bit symbolic, funnily enough.

Just like Amelie had predicted, the night had been pretty fun! It was a good thing that Katherine had loosened up a fair bit, and everything had been a rather smooth sailing since then! Between songs and drinks, the brunette's voice had gotten pretty hoarse; singing for that much time without practice was exhausting!
"Whaaat." A perplexed expression invaded Amy's features. "You mean that the highest score actually wins? Nah, that's a travesty. How can that possibly be true? You must be kidding me."
Of course, her tone belied that her comments couldn't possibly be serious, yet at the same time, it seemed like she wasn't giving up despite how ridiculous the situation was.
It was a good thing that Jazz had taken the reins of her musical tastes, and now was browsing the songs by herself; no doubt, it was just a matter of time before she decided to try her hand at singing! Nothing some time and some liquid courage couldn't eventually prompt.
A self-fulfilling prophecy, considering how she eventually agreed to start singing. It seemed like it was finally time for a more than welcome change of singers! Amelie herself wasn't sure about whether she could keep on for a lot more without a break of some sort. Luckily, the timing was impeccable.
I didn't take long for Ooi to step ahead as well; all things considered, she had been looking forward to her own share of entertainment for a while! Just drinking and staring at the two girls while the two sang and danced wasn't exactly her idea of karaoke, after all! "About time!" Her look was rather eager as she took one of the mics. Time to sing!
Meanwhile, it seemed like Katherine wanted to talk with Amelie, all alone. Why could that be? Both girls couldn't help but feel curious regarding what the matter might be, but it seemed like only one would sate that curiosity! Amy raised an eyebrow at the proposal. "It must be pretty important if you want us to go to another room..."
A smirk immediately made its way towards her face. "A love confession, maybe? That's okay. I can spare some moments. We can go to the balcony if you wanna."
What would happen between the two girls while Jazz and Ooi sang to their hearts' content? At least for now, that was a mystery.

The balcony was… windy! Luckily enough, it was not uncomfortably cold, even if the night had fallen over Shibuya. That was actually a bit weird, considering the time of the year it was. Not like Katherine was going to complain about it! They had a nice place to talk by themselves with a pretty nice view, which was honestly a lot more of what she could ask for. It was the moment to take a leap of faith.
About Amelie’s ‘love confession’ comment, not a single gesture or word that worked as a response had been issued.
“You were right. All of this is pretty important.” The Spaniard muttered, leaning against the rail, and lifting up her gaze to look into the sky. “It’s funny how I had thought about the moment when I was going to tell you this, long and hard. And yet now I can only wish I knew how to put it into words.” Her tone of voice sounded… melancholic, maybe? There was not sadness behind it, just maybe a bit of nervousness. “Maybe it doesn't matter how much you picture a moment in your head, you won’t be able to properly remember what you had schemed when the moment comes.”
There was really no helping it, right? The birthday girl let out a a sigh. “Thanks.” A pause. “For all of this. When I turned sixteen, I would have never expected my life to change so much. Ironically, probably the most unexpected change is to be celebrating my birthday with three friends. That's a bigger shock for me than the digimon or anything else.” That was… maybe a bit sad? Who knew how Amelie would see it. That ultimately did not matter much, it was a fact, and it could not be denied.
As she frolicked with one of her curls, Katherine's green irises drifted towards Amelie for a moment. “I know you prefer when things are said in a straightforward manner. I’m just… trying to figure out how to say this. Hope you don’t hate me for making you wait or anything.”
“You have always stroke me like the type of person who knows what to do in every moment. Like, you always have a plan or are able to come up with one when the situation demands you to do exactly that. I guess you're a leader, after all.” Slowly, Katherine scooted towards Amelie, closing in the gap between the two of them to barely some inches, and looking straight into her eyes, her face facing upwards. A very interesting question was about to be put on the table.
“Have you ever executed a plan even if you don’t have a mere idea of how it's going to go? Even if you have nothing that backs up the idea that it could possibly work?” Katherine’s gaze was intense. Probably the most intensity Amelie had ever seen in those green eyes. “Have you ever just wanted to do something, without even wanting to stop and think about the consequences it might have?”

The night air helped Amelie relax. To say the least, the panorama was very beautiful, and it kinda made the young woman regret not coming out more frequently. Considering that nowadays, most of her nights were spent either in the Digital World or studying until she fell asleep, losing sight of something so simple and pretty as this seemed like an obvious mistake. At least in hindsight.
Katherine seemed more serious than usual, and that concerned the brunette to an extent. Had she taken this party well? At least right now, that looked like the case. Initially, Amy listened attentively to what her friend had to say, even if an eyebrow was quirked at such a lengthy preamble. "I understand that. Most of the time, plans never come to fruition in the way you picture them, especially if they involve interacting with other living beings. Still, try to go at it on your own pace~."
One could probably feel the surprise in the girl's expression when such a speech was given as foreshadowing something as simple as 'thank you'. Sure, it had a lot more frills attached to it, but the intent behind her words was pretty clear. It was a bit confusing, yet heartwarming at the same time.
"You don't have to thank me for anything dummy." Slowly, the taller girl patted her friend, almost in a cheeky gesture. "This is normal stuff friends do for each other, you know? It wouldn't be fitting to call myself your friend otherwise." After all, sticking through the good times was the easiest thing ever. Only enduring through the thick and thin was the hallmark of a true bond.
A satisfied smile was the expression that, ultimately, lingered on her face. "You're right on that one, though. I prefer straightforwardness when that's an option, but today's your birthday, so I can kinda make an exception. Don't get used to it, though!"
Maybe it was the night, or maybe it was the alcohol, but the way Katherine inched closer and closer to her face made the girl feel extremely weird. She couldn't quite describe the feeling, but could only hope it wasn't something bad. "Well, it's nice to know that you think so highly of me." Little by little, the smile on her face became a bit more tender. That question was pretty interesting, and a welcome distraction from the situation at hand.
"There's an old adage my father used to tell me all the time. 'Success doesn't breed confidence. It creates expectations'. Once you're successful at something, there's this hidden pressure on the back of your head, telling you to keep on performing the same task equally well, or even better. I probably have more insecurities than I can care about, but when somebody's gotta lead, you can't quite let them out, y'know? It's just not an option; it's asking for a disaster to happen."
Maybe a bit of a harsh truth, but it was pointless to think that a simple girl like her was some kind of ineffable being. That'd be borderline fantastical, honestly. "But, going back to your question, yes. When risking something, knowing the outcome beforehand is a luxury not many have access to. I've figuratively gambled a fair bit of times in my life; me being here in Japan is probably among the bigger examples of that. Of both your cases, actually."
It was probably not a fitting comparison, especially considering that things didn't look like a gamble over here and her situation wasn't exactly precarious, but that was just a product of her own effort, in a way. "Why do you ask? What are you planning to do?"
That preamble had been quite lengthy. What did Katherine have in mind?

More than once, the idea that Amelie was a bag of contradictions had crossed Katherine’s mind. At times, she could act completely careless about certain gestures like a sincere ‘Thank you’ (especially after explaining the reasons behind it), but on other occasions, she showed to be vulnerable, and actually be afraid of challenges coming her way as she did only a minute later during the same conversation. Was that what intrigued Katherine and made her go closer to her (besides the obvious heroine she represented)? Or was it just part of that magic that surrounded the blue-eyed that she probably would never be able to explain?
Who knew, maybe their friendship was based on Undying Curiosity and the desire of the truth to escape its seeker. Maybe it will be like that forever.
“Well… you’re a good one.” That was everything Katherine had to say about the first part of the talk. Anything else would only make Amelie more eager to know! About the second part… “I wish you felt like letting me know about your insecurities, considering I’m your friend but… A leader can’t always afford that.” Besides, it wasn’t like Katherine had been that honest about her own insecurities either.
A sigh. A very deep one, actually. Then, she just went for it.
“Amy…”
Scooting closer to Amelie, Katherine stood on her tippy toes and grabbed both of the Frenchwoman’s hands, looking straight into her eyes, her face as close to hers as the difference of height could allow.
“... Please, take me and Jazz into the Deeplane City Council! I want to help you build the most powerful city across the Dark Area and make it a place digimon coming from there can feel proud of again!” The look in her eyes showed her words were honest and her resolution was absolute. However, it was likely Amelie had never seen as much fire in Katherine’s eyes as she saw when the curly-haired girl issued her next words.
“While I do that, I’m going to look for Bastian, the Ballistamon, who holds the map to the Drum Sanctuary. If I get that map, it means the Dark Army won’t be able to reach that place before I do.” Did Amelie even understand any of this? Katherine had not provided enough context to blurt out all of these things so leisurely! “Once we find Bastian, I will plan on how to defeat Luke and take the Zoid Gems back. And I don’t care if I die trying!”
She really didn’t.
“That’s my plan. I don’t know how I’m going to execute it and I know my chances of succeeding are scarce, but I’m going to do it anyway because I wouldn’t have a reason to live if it weren’t for you and Jazz. That's why I’m going to pursue the dream you have worked so hard to keep alive!” Kath was on fire! It was obvious she was not planning to throw her life away. And, at the same time, it was clear she did not plan to back down.
There was probably some clarification that needed to be issued. “Yes, I might be drunk and I might be just blurting out everything I think right now, but I know if I make a commintment to you now, I won’t be able to take it back in the morning. I am too coward to do exactly what I really want to do most of the times but… this is one of those things I really want to do, and I am not going to regret it, I know it, so please…!”
Welp, even if that was a weird reason to say all of this so suddenly, it was undeniable the teenager was firm on her resolve. Even if it might come up as a bit funny to Amelie, her friend was totally serious here! She was doing this!
“Also… gosh, you’re beautiful.”
Okay, maybe she was letting too much out.

Displaying smugness after that relatively tender exchange was probably unfitting, yet... Amelie couldn't help but smirk at Katherine's words as she inched closer. "Of course I'm a very good friend. You should know more than well that I wouldn't settle for anything less; I mean, what would be the point otherwise?"
If the brunette had displayed anything on the tenure of her friendship with Curls, that was how she didn't fancy half-assed endeavors; her mindset regarding that couldn't be simpler. If she was doing something, she might as well do it to the best of her ability, and while that sounded somewhat superfluous when applied to something that couldn't be measured, one couldn't argue with the results.
What about the question uttered by the shorter girl, though? That wasn't... as clear-cut, to say the least. "No can do, sorry about it." Despite the negative answer, her tone was relatively lighthearted. "There might be a day where I'll tell you about all times I've doubted myself, but that won't be today, and probably not any time soon. It's not that I don't trust you, but I really believe that's a weight a should bear on my own, and I have yet to be given any reason to believe otherwise. But I think that's fine; it's a burden that I have accepted willingly, so don't worry about it."
Despite the negative answer, Katherine still insisted on inching closer to her, to the point that Amy's personal space had been totally invaded. While the alcohol running through the brunette's blood made her not mind such an act. Not like she'd have minded it even on normal circumstances, anyway.
"Feeling daring today, huh?" It was a good thing that comment applied both to the proposal the dark-haired girl had uttered and to the gestures that accompanied those words. "I wouldn't mind you being a bit more like this from now on; gotta admit that I appreciate the directness!"
Holding the answer for more time wouldn't really be an act of kindness, though. By the look of it, and even if Amy was taking the whole situation casually, this seemed to be a pretty big deal for Katherine. "No need to ask so intensely! Especially when I don't really have a reason to tell you to no. From now on, consider yourself a member; congratulations! You are now part of the coolest organization that has ever existed. How does it feel?"
Did the brunette care about the whole Bastian deal? Not really, considering that she didn't have the context for the situation, but at least Katherine had shown to have a good deal of inebriated spirit regarding bettering the Dark Area. What else could she ask for? "We're defeating Birdman for sure, though. Bastian or no Bastian, that doesn't matter. But it sounds like he's important, so why not."
There wasn't much else to be said. The show of determination in Katherine's eyes was very real, and contagious to boot! It didn't take long for it to spread. Hands were squeezed tightly in return. "We're gonna accomplish our dreams together, no matter what. You can count on me for it! Nothing will be able to stop us if we put our hearts into it!"
Commenting on how those were alcohol-fueled promises wasn't fitting. Despite the almost-delirious nature of this exchange, the truth was that it was rather warm. Interrupting it would be far beyond tasteless. Pity that the atmosphere had to suffer a sudden cool-down due to the next comment, but that was fine. A smile was the only possible answer at that piece of flattery.
"I think you might've had a bit too much fresh air. Wanna head back? Knowing Ooi, her throat is probably sore by now."
It really was, and that wasn't to say that Jazz happened to be quite the good singer! She had gotten used to it in no time! All in all, the two had a very good time, and at least Ooi was fairly inebriated at the moment.
"Why are they taking so long?" The teenager's voice was very slurry by now. Effects of drinking the whole night. "Was it really a love confession? Don't tell me they're making out in the balcony now."
Would she peek? She really looked like she wanted to peek.

In all honesty, Amelie’s attitude had fueled Katherine’s excitement. The spark she seemed to have ignited in her friend made Katherine think she had taken the right decision about telling her everything she felt and asking to join the Deeplane City Council. Who knew, maybe she could be a lot more direct with Amelie from now on. “R-Right.” Katherine lowered her gaze at Amelie’s last statement, a slight blush forming around her cheeks. What had she just said!? The teenager would use some of their time left in the balcony and during the party itself to explain a little bit more about Bastian to Amelie, and why it was so important to find him. Of course, as they progressed in that objective, more interesting information would be revealed. The rest of the party would involve lots of drinking, singing, and laughing, as well as some deserved eating too! Sharing with a group of friends for the first time felt amazing to Katherine and although it was not completely gone, the anxiety caused by the events that had occurred a couple of days ago had started to wear off, at least during that night. Who would tell: The best day of Katherine’s life had come only some days after the absolute worst.
Sunday arrived and Katherine woke up in Amelie’s place, naturally. She and Jazz used that day to recover from the excess of alcohol ingested last night and face the decisions the green-eyed had taken. Ironically, this had gone just like drunk Katherine planned: The Spaniard felt committed to the words she had issued and could not back down even if she wanted to or if she was scared. She was fine with that, having to take that leap of faith and committing to a plan she had no idea how to make work was something she definitely had not done before, but it had done the trick now. Other than that, Katherine used the day to get some very much needed supplies, too.
Of course, the momentum could not be lost. Monday morning came and Katherine and Jazz were at Katherine’s apartment, having taken back most of her stuff. While it still generated some anxiety to be there for her, the time of living with Amelie was over. Of course, a massive hug and a very sincere burst of thank you had been issued before their goodbye. Which… wasn’t really a goodbye, considering they would meet in the Digital World in a couple of days. Katherine was the member of the Deeplane City Council now, after all! “Why aren’t we going with Shisei to the Digital World?” Jazz asked as she went through Katherine’s backpack. It was definitely different this time; the Spaniard had a considerable amount of clothes to change into and enough food and water. “She said she still had some stuff to prepare for a very important operation coming. She said she would send me the details through my D-Terminal soon, so I decided we should go ahead and get accustomed to being in the Digital World again.” Changing into a skirt and a shirt, Katherine answered her partner’s question. “So we’re going to have to dive into that river that took you to the Digital World the first time?” That would be a bit inconvenient, at least for Jazz. “Maybe not. Ugh, I forgot to tell you, didn't I? I’ve been fiddling with the digivice lately as I figured knowing the thing better can be a huge advantage. That became clear on that fight against Void.” The raven-haired teenager explained. “And I discovered Reviewmon installed a thing named ‘Digi-Port.’ I was reading its description and it seems to do the same Amelie’s portal does.” After tying up her laces, Katherine extended her arm to Jazz to show her the feature selected in her own gadget. The bunny took a moment to read the description and... “B-But… this says ‘Test version.’” That didn’t sound too good. “I know but… We have to try it and discover what’s wrong with it, right? If it’s too bad, we’ll just have to take it to Whitewater once we’re back at the Digital World and make Reviewmon fix it.” With this, Katherine stood up and got her digivice close to her again. Jazz closed the backpack and just watched as her tamer opened up a portal. At the other side, only a thick green color could be seen. Where was this thing going to take them? “Did you set the coordinates to somewhere in particular?” “Yes, I put it in Whitewater City, just in case.”
Would this thing work? Just like Katherine’s plan to find Bastian and defeat Luke, it was quite impossible to tell. However… “Once you’re successful at something there’s this hidden pressure on the back of your head…”
Amelie was right. Life was partly built on people expecting things from you after you do good things. That had made Katherine think she had to act exactly as she was expected to act to fulfill those expectations but… in the end, she just had to succeed. Did that sound too pragmatic? Maybe, but truth was that if she wanted to live to those expectations that had been created around her (regardless if they formed because there was merit in her actions or not), the best way to do it was to follow her instinct. In the end, that was what had gotten her into the Digital World and had changed her life forever so… why not follow it now? Just like she did with Amelie in the balcony. Who knew, maybe by being herself and just doing what she really wanted to do, she could someday become someone people were able to rely on. Someone who could actually protect others and make them feel good. Before going in, Katherine took out her D-Terminal, opened up Amelie’s chat and typed in some words. "Waiting for orders, boss!"
With this, a week that had Empanadas, new allies, revenge, near-death experiences, games and drinking was being sealed. Katherine and Jazz’s little adventure in the Human World was over for now, and they were going back to that place that actually felt like home to the two of them. Whatever was waiting for them in there, Katherine would never forget the truth behind their bond: No matter what happens, they fight together.
