Right. First things first. Hisato withdrew an Infinity Store, unlocked it, reached within it, and pulled out...a bottle of aspirin and a water bottle. "I don't have a headache." He clarified for those curious (likely nobody), "I'm just preparing." He muttered. While this was going on, Scarab -scoffed- at what just ensued.
While a snarky rant was far from what they needed at the moment, at the very least everyone seemed on board with attempting negotiations. "...I'm not affiliated with these people. If there's anyone that would be, that would be my half-brother. And Yggdrasil knows where he is right now after everything."
It would make sense, truth be told. Knight templar Veemon with a hate for humanity being affiliated with a group of provocateurs led by a Knightmon...
"Anyways. I'm going to agree with goggles there and say that the man with the twins is not fit to negotiate. Not alone. The Digimon out there do not care about your background. They only care about whether or not you can promise them what they want or tell them things they want to hear." A pause.
"As such, Maria leading negotiations is something we cannot have. They'll likely get violent. Swiftly." Scarab continued. "If we cannot represent DATS in good faith, then we should go in with the intent of moving the hostages away from whatever may result. In fact, that's what we should prioritize. If they want to put you in a bad light, then we need to ensure that they can't."
...So basically?
The agent hit all the points Scarab was trying to make already. Hm. "So, given I am a -terrible- wordsmith with negotiations in mind, I'm going for the group that's not doing the talking. Though, I am unsure if this includes both tamers and partners or not." The Wormmon looked to Kenny and Alan. These two seemed to have to have the most dedication towards solving this with words...
"I think I'll leave it to you how we should organize this." Did that seem like a good enough idea? Probably. Hisato just finished taking his aspirin and closed his water bottle. "...I caught a good bit of that." The teenager stated. "So, we're likely going to need to split up and decide who's going where. Which means we'll have to decide that here and now."
Well? Who'd go where?

Post by Kenny O'Hara and Skadi on Apr 14, 2020 10:26:48 GMT
It seemed the initial suggestion of stealth was warmly received by Maria and her Sistermon twins, thankfully enough, albeit with a bit of hesitation on the Digimon's end; the fears of everything going pear shaped and the attackers opting to murder all the hostages was a very understandable - if not frightening - thought to deal with. Still, a nagging thought inside of Skadi lingered.
As she approached the two Sistermon twins, she quietly raised a hand as she looked up to them, the other as she reached to pull out a certain device, "I forgot to mention, we can also summon a Digi-Port γ from my own D-Nexus to send the hostages to somewhere safe from within Shibuya, at least, if not anywhere in the Digital World, once we free them." She explained, holding up her D-Nexus up for the sisters to see, "Unfortunately, we can only send up 5 people at a time, before we have to wait for it to charge for 5 minutes, and we really can't afford to waste time.
I also suggest that Kenny, Alan, Levi and I can use the KIZNA home portal to send the hostages over to the city of Ys for the time being, at least until it's safe for them to go back to the real world unscathed, and we can keep it up for as long as necessary. I'm open to either, honestly, if that's OK with you's two. Our home does have a protective shield that keeps out attackers and threats to Ys at bay." It was best to just get this out of the way as soon as possible on how to safely get the hostages home. She turned over to the rest of the group, "Do you guys have at least a Digi-Port γ on you, just in case?"
Sadly, it looked like convincing the attackers wasn't exactly going to be an open-and-shut case as originally anticipated, with the attackers aware of the old and new DATS. There was a nugget of truth in Justice's words. Skadi's ears flumped down to the sides in disappointment as Kenny once-optimistic expression started to fade slightly, "Oh. Shit. Sorry. ...thanks for at least clarifying this for us anyways, ma'am. I'll keep that in mind." He told the agent in a calm matter.
Well, it sounded like a good idea at the time.
But it was Justice's angry rant, and the reactions that he garnered, that had grabbed their attention, turning towards him as they listened to what all of them had to say, the general meat of it all being that maybe a person with an itchy trigger finger for a rage induced rant wasn't exactly the best idea to engage with potentially dangerous alien creatures. Their eyes glazed over to Maria as she laid out why they needed their help in the first place to him. The young man quietly bit his lip as he watched, all the while merely thinking Jesus Christ, remind me not to get on your bad side anytime soon.
Still, once she had finished up, Kenny gave a quiet sigh as he went over to Justice, glancing over to him and speaking in a calm, but firm voice, "Look, Justice, I understand. It's a frustrating, unpleasant situation, and let's be honest, I don't think anyone is really enjoying this all too much, if at all for that matter. But you can't let yourself lose control of yourself; if you get angry and start lashing out willy-nilly, shit's just gonna get a whole lot worse. Getting angry will not solve anything. You need to stay calm and collected. You let yourself get stressed out, and you might as well set off a nasty chain of events way out of your control by the time you collect yourself, and it might be too late to fix things."
Another sad sigh escaped from Kenny as his voice took on a much sadder tone, "...believe me. I should know. I've learnt that lesson the hard way myself. And I really don't want you to make the same mistake I did, OK? You have to trust us on this. Not just for our sake, but for yours as well." He slowly lifted out a hand for Justice to shake. If he did, Kenny's grip would be firm, a subtle memo to him about the trust they needed to share.
Meanwhile, Skadi turned to the voice of another Wormmon, this time, an orange apparition talking to the once-GranKuwaga Mask standing in place. Was she seeing things now? She rubbed her eyes for a brief moment and blinked, only for the orange Wormmon to still stand in place. All she did was nod along with Maria's words concerning her with an interested grin to the spirit user.
Listening to Maria lament about the situation about not being able to communicate with the negotiators, and Hisato & Scarab suggest their own ideas on how to negotiate and save the hostages, another thought came to Kenny as he turned back to Maria, "Honestly, I think it's best if you could work as intel for the hostage rescue group, working with them on the sidelines to ensure that they can recover the hostages as soon as they can and summon the portals to bring them somewhere safe. Skadi, you fine with working with the hostage rescue group?"
"Sure am!" She cried, pumping a fist in the air, "I'll follow you guys from behind while Geisterseele is active to defuse suspicion, and summon the portals necessary when somebody gives the signal."
"Heh. That's good to hear, girl!" He chuckled at his partner's enthusiasm, "Meanwhile, I'll stay behind and join the negotiators, and hear them out as necessary, so we at least understand the true reason behind this hostage situation in the first place, and figure out what to do from here to stop all Hell from breaking loose." The seeds were sown for the plan to start off nice and strong. They were going to throw in just a little bit of extra elbow grease for results.
Hopefully, Maria liked what she heard.

This was a lot to take in.
To start, everyone disagreed with Justice being the sole person to lead the interrogations, some saying it as polity as they can, others just bluntly saying it. It caused him to lower his head down in both embarrassment. While everyone was trying to contribute and offer potential scenarios on what do to, he decided to let his emotions get the better of him and break off into a rant, making it seem that he wasn't emotionally equipped to handle this situation. In addition, hearing Maria's response just made him feel all the more stupid and guilty. Here she was, being 100% honest to him, bowing her head down asking for help, and he responded by spitting ignorance and venom.
The young man put both of his hands over his face, ashamed that he made such a bad impression on everyone. Now he felt that nobody could trust him with this situation. "I'm...I'm sorry." he said in a somber tone. "I shouldn't had said any of that." They were all right; this wasn't the time or the place to let his emotions dictate his actions. Lives were on the line, and no enemy was going to listen to him simply because he could possibly relate to them. Such a stupid suggestion to even say.
Now he felt like absolute shit. When Kenny extended his hand out to shake, Justice looked at it for a few seconds before nodded no and turning away. He didn't felt as though he deserved that kind of hospitality--not yet anyway.
The twins gazed over to Justice with worry, unsure as to what to say to cheer him up.
The rest of the group began to organize. They would split off into two groups: the negotiators and the hostage saviors. Justice stepped forward, not with the arrogant stride he had before, but with anxiousness. He took a breath. "So...what group should the three of us fall under? Seeing as though everyone agrees that I'm not qualified to be a negotiator, I can't fit into the hostage group too since one, I don't have a D-Arc, and two, I don't a Chameleon Cape Card to turn both of my Digimon invisible."
"We're more of a action and bruising type than a sneaking around type." Vee commented.
Gummy concurred. "Yeah, but seeing as though those Digimon mean business about having a fight. It's best to assume that our enemies will not be so easily persuaded. If they want a tussle, we'll have no choice but to give it to them if our talks fail. But where at I wonder...because it can't take in this tiny space, or in the city. That would just put even more humans in danger, that's for sure."
Yeah, since the group's goal was to avoid combat as best as possible, they couldn't discard the what-if possibility if the negotiation talks fail. And wherever which group they fall under, the trio will do it without question, especially Justice. It was time to swallow his pride for once and put his differences aside to the greater good--for himself, and as an AEGIS agent.

Justice was correct, this was a lot to take in. Possibly too much.
Right when Maria brought up the fact that this was a hostage situation, GranKuwaga Mask suddenly turned... into a human? And there was an orange bug spirit with her, a colored Wormmon like the one that was already present. The human, who the spirit called Ryuko, freaked out about not wanting people to know her identity, only for the spirit who she called Jiro to say that he trusted Agent Maria to not share the secret.
Adrian understood what this was; she was trying to play superhero. "Never thought of having a secret identity; the very idea of Digimon itself was the secret, I always thought. Anyways, Shoutmon and I won't tell anyone. I'm good at keeping secrets." They did catch on to some animosity between Justice and Ryuko, though... hopefully that wouldn't interfere with the mission.
Adrian and Shoutmon were both suspicious when Scarab was asked if he was associated with that group. Admittedly they didn't know him that well, so they didn't know what to think. Scarab immediately dismissed these claims, saying that if anything his half brother would be involved. "I assume your half brother doesn't exactly have the best opinion on humans either?"
It seems that it was decided that the best course of action would be to split into two teams, one for stealth to rescue the hostages and one to negotiate with the attackers head-on. Maria mentioned that it would be better for there to be a signal for the stealth team to take action. "Maybe someone on the negotiating team can say a code word, or do a hand gesture for the other team. One that could easily be slipped into conversation without alerting the Digimon." Skadi then brought up that she and Kenny had the Digiport-Y, saying that it could be used to send people to safety. "I also have the Digiport-Y, making that up to ten people. But wouldn't they notice that kind of thing? Digiports aren't always that inconspicuous..."
Now it was Maria's turn to respond to Justice's rant. She handled it very maturely, explaining all the reasons why DATS alone could not handle this and why they got "a bunch of nineteen year olds" to help quite well. It even left Justice himself in a state of guilt, apologizing for what he had just said. Adrian patted the guy's shoulder. "We all say and do things we regret. The most we can do is learn from it and improve, right?" He tried to give Justice a reassuring smile as well, hoping that it'd at least do something.
After the rant, Scarab agreed with Adrian ("My name isn't goggles," he would interrupt) that Justice shouldn't be the only negotiator. But now the question was: WHO should be the negotiator? Maria wasn't able to, since she represents an organization the Digimon group actively hates, Scarab claimed himself to not be a good wordsmith, and no one really trusted Justice to go at it alone. Speaking of, Justice asked which group he should be a part of. "I think you could still help negotiate, Justice, but it'd be best if you had someone along with you. As for Shoutmon and I, we will join the stealth team to help get those hostages to safety, since we have a Chameleon Cape card and other methods of stealth."

Otohime's shoulders drooped visibly with relief when Maria assured her that she would keep quiet. Seems that Jiro's trust in the agent had not been misplaced. "Hah, guess the legend of GranKuwaga Mask will live on!" She chuckled, then quickly regained her serious demeanor. "How fast I can evolve? 'bout 10 seconds on average. I can hurry, but I think that might render me a tad confused afterward! Hope there won't be a need to!" Jiro nodded. "Y-y-y-yes, I agree, I h-h-h-hope that there won't be a reason to fight, too many innocents are at risk." Groups, huh? "I'd bloody *suck* at negotiation. I'm as dumb as a thin stick of plywood. Jiro's super smart, but he can't go anywhere without me, cuz he's a Sprite Spirit or sumthin!" "Y-y-y-yes, technically, I am just a manifestation of the Spirit Ryuko-san uses to digivolve, so I cannot go alone..." "So if you wanna make use of Jiro's immense smarts and friendliness ya gotta have to drag along my dumb ass!" Jiro blushed, both due to the statement and due to attention from Skadi. "Ah, d-d-d-don't put yourself down!" "What, it's true! Regardless, I'm gonna put my fate into Agent Maria's hand, if she thinks I should go negotiating, I will do my utmost! And if she thinks I should be elsewhere, I will do that!" She gazed over to Justice, and said nothing. She didn't like the guy, but kicking him when he was down would be so unsporting! She'll pick on him when he can fight back again!

Alan nodded in understanding of Maria's response to his suggestion. Yes, he supposed, appearing to cave to the hostage-takers' demands from the outset by bringing the DATS agent along would be a more surefire way to turn negotiations sour than implying an intention to negotiate instead by bringing the outside responders. "Yes, you're right. Bringing you as they requested would give them an immediate upper hand, and little reason to talk to us, let alone listen to what we have to say."
Next, he reviewed his reasoning for wanting to be on the up-front negotiation team. Neither he nor Levi was trained in diplomacy, but none of the options were. If one of them had been trained, they would have stepped up first and made sure this was known the moment diplomacy was mentioned. Additionally, he hoped his experience living in the digital world and compassion for its inhabitants would be worth something, though he would need more than that to make this work. As he retraced his thought process, his eyes wandered down and met with those of his Veemon partner. That's right... I'm not in this alone. More people than just me have an interest in making sure this succeeds. I need to stop forgetting that. "I would like to be on the negotiating team. I think we have enough on stealth and active rescue... right?"
"And I'll be accompanying him in my current form!" Levi hopped into a proud, dutiful pose. "I think I'll take my hat off for this. We also have a smokescreen card worst case! Provided we don't confuse ourselves with it!"
