“Well, you may be right about all of that, but I still like to keep an eye on them,” admitted the tsukaimon after Mandrake expressed his own opinion on humans. She then listened to him talk about his journeys into the human world, the spark of interest resurfacing in her eyes. At least, until the impmon confessed to almost being stabbed, to which Des balked at.
“Yeah, we would stand out, wouldn’t we? But wow, robbed at knifepoint? You really do have a bad habit of getting into sticky situations. Then again, you have the luck to get out of them too, so that works out I guess?” Des tapped her chin with a soft hum. “I bet if this keeps up you’re going to get into some awesome adventures. Would you keep me in mind if you decide to run off anywhere thrilling? I may be small, but I can handle myself well if I do say so myself!” She dusted off her shoulders for emphasis and smiled.
“I might even be going to the Dark Area myself in the near future, if you’re interested?”

Mandrake thought about what Des said about him getting into trouble and said "One would think I was a magnet for trouble but maybe that comes with the territory for those that are always wandering such as myself."
When Des mentioned her ability to hold her own, Mandrake said "Despite the fact that I'm not much of a brawler, my magic has potential and who knows what I'll be capable of as I digivolve. After all magic using digimon tend to learn better tricks over time."
When the Dark Area was mentioned Mandrake felt unsure of going there. Sure Lothar might be there but the risks were high considering the travelers that went there occasionally met rather unpleasant ends. What could the Tsukaimon known as Des want there? Figuring there was only one way to find out, Mandrake said "While I agree excitement can be found exploring into the Dark Area, I am sure you also are aware of the risks as well. Though I have to admit I have considered chancing a trip to the Dark Area myself."

Still standing on her back legs on her chair Des leaned back in her seat to relax with a soft chuckle to herself. She wasn’t sure what to think of Mandrake, but there interactions so far were limited after all. Her expression held its calm and pleasant visage, though; for better or worse she did not feel the need to be on guard or paranoid about his presence. At least not yet, anyways.
“You’re an unusual one for an impmon, Mandrake, and I mean that in the best of ways. You’re traveling a long road right now, but it’s not for some selfish or trivial reason, either. The job you took to help the town the other day paid well, yes, but there were safer alternatives for bits if that’s all you wanted. Even though you still have healing burns you’re entertaining a stranger’s whims, telling me stories of how you were almost stabbed.” The tsukaimon paused to chuckle once more, shaking her head in amused disbelief. She wasn’t trying to be rude, and her tone was sincere and perhaps somewhat fascinated as well.
“And now, you’re warning me of potential danger? Come on, Mandrake. You and I both know that what’s really dangerous is a stubborn mon on a dedicated mission.” Des smiled across to the impmon, her gaze playful and coy. Determination was often an underrated quality, and she was sure that the impmon X from last night found that out the hard way.
“I do appreciate the concern, though; it’s not something I receive very often. You don’t have to commit now of course, but give it some thought? Either way, I'm going to get back what I've left behind. There might even be some bits in it for you, if you're still low on that.”

"I suppose I am unusual when compared to some Impmon. Considering I lack the need to be a troublemaker that's quite an understatement. As for the other jobs I suppose you're right but when I heard about the robberies I couldn't standby and do nothing to help. Maybe if I was more careful during the fight I wouldn't be in this shape now. Good thing digimon heal faster than humans or I wouldn't have been wandering the town." Mandrake shifted but apparently it was too sharp a movement and he let out a brief hiss of pain.
"I had to try and I do understand when it comes to being stubborn about a cause. Besides I'm sure you're already aware of how dangerous the Dark Area is. You've mentioned something you have to get back. Was it stolen from you, Des? If you need help recovering a stolen item, then I wouldn't mind helping out. Once I've healed of course."

The impmon's audible admittance of pain didn't go unnoticed. Des' wings twitched at Mandrake's hiss, and she looked him over in mild concern. She couldn't really tell if he was just putting on a tough guy act or not, but his suffering sounded real to her regardless.
"You really shouldn't be wandering anywhere at all," countered the tsukaimon calmly. "..but, as I said, there's no stopping a mon on a mission. I can't heal you, but I might be able to make things more comfortable."
The tsukaimon smiled before her body became a silhouette of light. Her shape stretched taller as she digivolved, and once the light faded a witchmon was sitting in her chair. She waved a hand to her side, the gesture spawning two identical clones that were linked to Desdemona's own mind. All of the witchmons shared one consciousness although they perceived the world from their own individual senses.
"Let me see if I can get a towel and ice water for you, dear. Something cold on those burns should help you relax." one of the clones said before walking away to perform said task.
"As for what I've got my eye on? I can't say whether or not it's been stolen, but I certainly didn't have it with me when I hatched in the Village of Beginnings," mused the second clone as she moved beside Mandrake's chair. Taking her crimson witch hat off she used it to gently fan the impmon's back.
"It's a book I've lost either way," answered the original witchmon as she shifted in her seat. She crossed one leg over the other at the knees, and rested her hands in her lap. "I consider it my only treasure; it might have clues to my past life and who I was before. I would be in your debt if you helped me with this, and I keep my promises, Mandrake." As a mon of her word, Des spoke the last line with an air of finality. Lying wasn't her style, and she was always fair to those who helped her.

Mandrake watched as Des digivolved into Witchmon and then she created two copies of her self. Unlike his illusions which were meant as a diversionary tactic since they weren't solid by any means, even if they appeared solid in appearance. Des and her copies moved about, one of the copies going to fetch a towel and ice while the other used its hat to fan his back. He had to admit the cool air felt good as his posture relaxed. The whole time he had been listening to her speak about a book of hers that she lost. Des herself had not moved, Mandrake could tell by focusing on her telepathic presence. He didn't have the strength at that point to tap any further into his telepathic abilities. Using his telekinesis was a challenge in his current state.
"Like I said, I wouldn't mind helping you but how do you know that your book is in the Dark Area? The Digital World is a big place, after all." Mandrake said as he waited patiently for Des' explaination.

Mandrake's question was a fair one. Des didn't seem bothered by it at all, and the seated witchmon even smiled patiently at his insistence for knowledge.
"I have to confess that without going there myself, I can't confirm that it is in the Dark Area. The only leads I have are vague memories and dreams of a place I have never been to yet; at least, not within this lifetime." Her blue eyes wandered to the side, glancing at Rosewood's sights once more. "The Digital World is a big place, yes. Life is abundant in every region, flourishing and evolving constantly. However, there is one area that is the exception in all this, isn't there?" Her gaze flickered back to Mandrake with a blink, and her smile tugged a little wider in a hint of mischief. She was enjoying this talk despite its ominous tone.
"The Dark Area. I recall the sensation of sand and grit against my skin. Not the warm grains from the Southern Tropics, but cold and rough, almost biting to the touch. Dry winds whispering, only reminding me of the isolation within that dreary place. A place so apathetic towards life that not even light was able to grace its surface."
The witchmon paused then, looking at her returning clone. The clone had a small towel draped across a forearm as she held a bowl of water and ice in her hands.
"Sorry for the interruption," apologized the clone as she set the bowl down on their table and started to soak the towel in it. "But, if you can think of a place like that, that isn't the Dark Area?"
"I'm all ears," finished the clone that had been fanning Mandrake's back with her hat.

"Since I've never been to the Dark Area in my current lifetime, I only know that the place is fraught with dangers and not just from the digimon there. I've heard sometimes the very land itself corrupts ones with weak wills. Makes me even wonder if I should chance a trip there sometimes." He sighed before he continued "I'm sure you are just as aware of the potential dangers that the Dark Area would present us if we went there as I am.
Never had Mandrake missed Lothar more than he did now. When the two of them were last together, he had to admit if anyone else had a far from weak will it was Lothar. "It is true that the Dark Area seems to change little from the rest of the Digital World, at least on the surface. I think the changes that region are more subtle and often go unseen, Des."

Mandrake was ever the prudent digimon, she noted mentally. She probably made a good choice in asking him to join her. A more stubborn and headstrong individual wouldn’t have put in the consideration this impmon had.
“I doubt either of us are weak willed, or susceptible to mental predations as magic users, but yes, there is a degree of danger traveling through any part of the Dark Area,” agreed the clone as she lifted the soaked towel from the bowl of water. Moving as she continued to talk the witchmon wrung out the excess water from the towel before dabbing it gently over the impmon’s burns. “I won’t lie, I’ve always had a strange fascination with that forbidden place as well. You’re probably right in that change there happens beyond the surface level; it’s more sinister and fitting that way.”
“However,” cut in the original witchmon still seated across from Mandrake, “I want to make it clear again that I won’t be leaving for this journey immediately. I’m just looking for people who wouldn’t mind making the trip with me. There’s time to prepare, and by that time I’m sure we’ll both be a lot stronger than we are now.”
“Until that time, please take care of yourself, Mandrake,” continued the clone that was fanning the impmon’s back with her hat. “The world itself is a dangerous place as you’ve already seen.”

She had a point that most magic users weren't weak willed. It wouldn't be productive for them to be so. If a magic user was weak willed their focus would easily be over powered by another. "The fact that I'm both telepathic and telekinetic as well would make no sense if I had a weak will. If I were weak willed I doubt I could control such potentially powerful mental abilities."
Not weak willed, no, but maybe he was too stubborn for his own good. In his condition he should of been resting at an inn after being released from the hospital. At least the cold water was feeling good on his burns. "While strength is not a primary factor that drives me, I wouldn't doubt that when we go to the Dark Area we will be stronger. In the meantime, Des, I plan on being more careful in my travels. You don't need to worry about that."

Desdemona's head tilted slightly at the revelation of Mandrake being a telepath. There was a slight rise in her mental anxiety, but she remained outwardly calm as she processed that information. Mandrake didn't seem like the kind of guy who would use that gift insidiously, but it could be problematic if she wasn't careful.
"Telepathic and telekinetic, huh? Those are rare gifts. Rarer even to be paired together like that. You have my appreciation for being up front about the mind reading; not many people would admit to having that kind of ability. I understand that you'll hear just about everything, but if I could make a request, Mandrake?" The witchmon sitting across from Mandrake smiled pleasantly as she tapped the side of her head before continuing. "A lady's thoughts are her own. I wouldn't dive too deeply if I were you, as a friendly suggestion."
"I wonder, though; is that something that can be taught? Telepathy and telekinesis?" asked the witchmon clone with the towel. Again she soaked the cloth in cold water before dabbing it over the impmon's burns. Although some people passing by would stare curiously at the rookie digimon being pampered by three champions, Desdemona ignored them. "Strength has never been a big ambition for myself as well, but learning new skills is always helpful."

"Though either gift is rare, I do find it odd that there was only one other digimon in the small village I grew up in that had the same mental abilities as myself. He is a Jijimon who adopted me when I was Keemon." Mandrake said before he continued "I do understand how unsettling others find telepathy to be. Even though I can read others minds if I wanted to, I prefer not to resort to such an invasion of privacy."
Could the telepathy and telekinesis be taught? Mandrake has never thought about it before now since he was told he was born with his abilities. "Jijimon said I was born with my abilities so I'm not sure if telepathy or telekinesis are abilities that can just be taught. It might be possible though. Who knows?" Mandrake paid little attention to the stares he and Des were receiving since he didn't care at the moment why they were doing so as long as they didn't openly attack him.

“A jijimon?” echoed Desdemona as her eyes widened slightly in surprise. “You really are a lucky one, Mandrake. I’m sure he was an admirable mentor. I hope I’ll be able to meet a jijimon someday, but my pursuit of knowledge has been put on hold for now. I lack the wealth to afford that kind of a trip, unfortunately.” She did have a job and an apartment to keep in Terminus City. While traveling aimlessly in search of knowledge had a charming sound to it, it was nothing more than a dream for her right now.
She nodded gratefully, pleased to hear that she wouldn’t have to worry about Mandrake reading her mind. At least, not at the moment anyways. Still, she chuckled and shrugged her shoulders.
“Here I thought I was going to have to improvise and say that I’d curse your or something if you did try to read my mind. Then again I don’t know any curses, so you’d be in the clear either way.”
Leaning forward in her seat the witchmon rested an elbow on the table and her chin in her palm. Her blue eyes took in the impmon’s physical features patiently. Mandrake was a curiosity, that much was for sure.
“So, after you find your friend, what’s next for Mandrake the Magician? I get the feeling your story is just beginning, even though it sounds like you’ve already seen a fair bit already.”

"Considering that I could have been left alone to likely perish, Jijimon taking me in was fortunate. I could have been left to perish or could have been raised by someone who only wanted to use me for my powers." Mandrake said. Indeed he was glad he had been found by a digimon that wanted the best for him.
As Des joked about cursing him, Mandrake chuckled before he said "Then I guess it's a good thing I rarely invade others minds other than to communicate with them. There are probably digimon that are capable of curses even though neither of us can do such a thing."
What was next for Mandrake? That was a good question and it was something he had hardly thought of until Des asked him. "Good question but I suppose I could continue adventuring with my friend, that is if he wouldn't mind doing so. Knowing him like I do, I don't doubt he would be against adventure. Maybe I'll also train and learn some knew abilities as well.

She nodded in agreement at his good fortune. Mandrake really was a lucky mon whether he really knew it or not. Time would tell how far his luck would go, however.
“Ahh, being an adventurer does have its appeals,” mused the seated witchmon. “Exploring all the new and unknown, and in good company too, it seems. I have no doubt that you’ll find your fair share of good and bad times, but the feeling of having overcome all those foreign obstacles will surely be worth it.” Des smiled whimsically as she tilted her head back to stare up at the blue sky above them.
“I like seeing new places myself, but I’m afraid I love the comforts of home a little too much,” she admitted with a chuckle. “Modern conveniences are so pleasant, after all. I don’t think I could go back to sleeping on the grass, even under a sea of stars.” She shook her head with another chuckle before looking back to Mandrake.
“Well, I guess I could tough it out if I had to? There was a spell I wanted to learn later, that would turn my hat into a giant tent of sorts. I think that would do nicely.”
