Elliot smiled slightly in response. With how much better Maia's Japanese was than his, he wasn't exactly sure how honest she was being. Despite thst, the sentiment was still very strongly appreciated. "Thanks," the boy said somewhat shyly. "I'll give you my email after we're done shopping, okay? Heck, I could give you Isaac's too, if you want." The other boy didn't play as much as Elliot did, preferring to explore the new area as much as possible before leaving, but Elliot had the feeling he wouldn't mind sharing his email address.
"Wait, she doesn't? That's lucky. Ours is usually always checking up on where we are and what we're doing," Elliot asked, somewhat puzzled. That was really fortunate for Maia! Probably made the whole Digimon thing a lot easier to deal with, too. Elliot briefly felt really thankful that he turned into one instead of having to hide, feed, and care for one. Then again, as the trashcan incident showed, being a spirit user wasn't without its own problems.
"Egg-celent idea," Isaac joked. He wasn't normally this much of a clown, but the thrill of the day still had a way of lifting his spirits. He was home! He was alive! His brother was safe! He had a new friend! That kind of thing tended to put a spring in your step. He took the eggs, giving the box a quick look-over to make sure it looked okay before shrugging and walking off.
Elliot gave a quick cough of reminder, and Isaac popped open the carton to inspect the eggs for cracks. Still all good, but now at least the trio would be absolutely sure there weren't any broken eggs ruining the batch. It was another habit from home that Elliot picked up on way before Isaac did.

Maia shifted the items she was going to purchase, nodding, "I'd like both e-mails, if that's alright." After all, Isaac hadn't necessarily consented to giving her the email, but he was a bit preoccupied. She figured they probably wouldn't even check their computers or anything until they'd gotten home, but it was still some way to keep in contact. After all, the blonde was pretty used to having only long-distance friends.
"Yeah, before we moved here, she was kind of like that," the tamer downplayed the protectiveness of her mother a bit. It had been like pulling teeth to just go over to anyone's house, let alone the park or anything. One would think the teen would be jealous of the lack of attention now that she was here, but it was actually a very relieving thing! No seventeen year old girl should be stuck inside because the world beyond her mom's vision could kidnap or kill her. Though, it wasn't really like she had always told her mom where she was for the entirety of certain days. Her friends had been more of the liars, in fairness.
Hearing Isaac's pun, Maia went to open her mouth, when a very distressed groan came from her purse. "Noooo!" the tamer jerked a little, surprised that Kyaromon had felt the need to pipe up after he had been so good at being quiet! "Maia makes enough puns for everyone! The world doesn't need more!"
As soon as she heard her name, the blonde had begun shifting her purse to try to shut the Digimon up. "I do not!" Maia protested, face turning slightly red. Okay, so, maybe she did. But, they didn't need to know that! Even though she had been about ten seconds away from a pun related to cracked eggs. It was probably for the best that the opportunity had been lost! "Aren't you supposed to be quiet in public?" she reminded him, before she could get too embarrassed about the situation.
"They only make me gag a little!" the monster puffed, clearly trying to make fun of his tamer. He just needed to harass her a little! Hearing his reminder, he added an, "oh, yeah!" before going completely silent. What a weird creature. It was still pretty debatable if he was only around to try to make Maia embarrassed on a near-daily basis.
Looking around for some sort of distraction, the girl began to walk toward the register. "Okay, uh, we have all the stuff I needed, so I think we're good now. Do you two need anything first?"

"Sounds good to me. I'll ask him when we're done shopping," Elliot said in response. Maybe he'd consider phone numbers too? Of course, first they'd need to get new phones in the first place. It would certainly be an important priority, due to those strange Digivices replacing them. He'd leave the excuse making to Isaac, who was a trained professional on that front. As much as it hurt to even imagine lying to her, he knew it would just freak her out springing the whole truth of the Digital World on her. It'd be bad for them, bad for her, bad for everybody. He'd just leave the actual deed to Isaac, because it didn't sit well with him at all planning that.
Isaac couldn't help but snicker at Kyaromon's response. "Aw, what's the matter?" he asked, a teasing tone to his voice. "Afraid she's pun-ishing you?" He would've tried to squeeze at least a few more puns out, but with the blush lighting up Maia's face he got the feeling he'd rather not subject her to that. Also, the whole Digimon-are-secret thing. Right. That was a really important one to remember.
At least now the shopping trip was done. It'd be time for cookies and hanging out any second now! Elliot and Isaac quickly pondered, thinking if they wanted anything, but it all came up blank. Besides, it would've been really rude to buy something else when their new friend was offering to make fresh, homemade cookies. "We're good," Isaac responded. "How far is it to your house, by the way? We might as well plan so we don't get, well, you know." Tactical avoidance of bringing up being lost in a big, public place, engage!

Another gurgled groan came from the purse, as the Digimon fought the urge to make a comment about how awful the teen was. Not all people were good! Especially not horrible pun-making people! Ugh! Eventually, it would surely rub off on Kyaromon, and was not something he was fond of considering! Not yet, at least! "Puns are too cheesy! Make them stop!"
Trying not to sound like a total dork about it, Maia mumbled a, "I think they're pretty Gouda..." only for another groan. How did the little monster not think that his tamer would make a cheese pun out of that? He really needed to think his word choices through! While thinking, though, he also realized that it may have been the first time that the girl had made a horrible pun outside of her house. Was that why she was so embarrassed? He was going to remember this for later!
"Oh, yeah," Maia had kind of forgotten that the spirit users didn't know where she lived! Which was also a good thing. It'd be far more worrying if they already knew where she resided. "I live in the residential district in Western Shibuya. Do you guys kind of know where that is?" Probably not. They'd only been here for a few days, after all! And, they probably weren't too familiar with where people lived, anyway. "It's not really too far away from here, I don't think..." After all, Maia had walked from there, and she'd been trying to pay attention so that she could repeat the trip when necessary, so it shouldn't be too hard to keep track of where they were going! ...Right?

"Yours are gouda. But I think mine are a bit cheddar," Isaac responded, snickering slightly from how awful of a pun it was. Still, even if the puns were lame, the time with a new friend sure as heck wasn't. The fact that she was even laughing at his stupid jokes was only a bonus. Times like this he was glad that Maia spoke English. Forget explaining where they were. How was he supposed to be funny if he couldn't speak the same language as her probably? Crisis majorly averted.
"We do," Elliot replied, after a bit of thought. "But we don't go there too much. We've been living in Greater Shibuya." It was always a bit nerve-wracking to admit that, especially with how style conscious Shibuya was, but something about Maia made her very trustworthy to the boys. Besides, it would help assure her that they knew where they were going if they could so easily pinpoint where home was. "We should be able to find it easily in the end, right?"
It was starting to get a little bit darker outside, from what Isaac could see through the windows. It only brought to mind how long of a day this really was. From falling in the river to finally making it back to Shibuya, it had been a pretty harrowing series of events. Getting to crash at Maia's house and rest was increasingly sounding like a dream come true, if only for the brief time before they went home. But for now, it was time to remain patient. Soon the items would be rung up and it'd be time for one last bit of journeying.
And then, tomorrow, a brand new day. Who knows what'd come next?

Again, the purse groaned, but Maia began giggling again, finding the puns just too fantastic. And, the fact that Kyaromon couldn't stand them only made it better! "Your cheese pun is 'grate,' so I guess you win," she smiled, before finally paying for the items and moving toward the door again. Why did she have to encourage such horrible puns? The bunny monster in her purse was debating why he had to be with her during this kind of event! Was this revenge for trying to eat her computer mouse last night? No, the Digimon insisted. It couldn't be because of that.
The tamer paused for a moment, hearing what area they were staying in. She didn't want her surprise to be considered an insult, but she could only blink a few times before saying, "oh. I don't really go to that area much." Wasn't that a more dangerous area to stay in? There was a reason that the girl didn't really traverse that area. "Uh, aren't there a lot of creepy people there?" Elliot and Isaac looked pretty far from creepy, but what if they were mugged on their way home or something?
Thinking about homes, she decided to send a text to both parents, just to be sure that they wouldn't be surprised about some weird guys in their house, if either were even home when she got there. Pulling out her phone, she sent a quick text, then shoved it back into her pocket. Maia wasn't really expecting a response any time soon. "It should be pretty easy to get there, though. If you're nervous, I can pull up a map on my computer, at home, to make sure you know where you're going." Honestly, the girl was the nervous one! If only they were staying someplace a little safer feeling!
"Who care where you live? We need priorities!" The alien in the purse insisted, "and, by priorities, I mean cookies. They're important! Worry about going home later!" As pushy as he was, the Digimon honestly had no idea where anything was, so he didn't have a clue about how sketchy of a place Greater Shibuya could be!

"I'd say we all win. Except Kyaromon," Isaac said, laughing a bit. The poor Digimon seemed to hate all of these puns. Unfortunately, his exaggeratedly pained reactions only seemed to fill the two with more determination to keep making them. At least with this impromptu pun-off done, the Digimon would be at peace for a while.
Elliot frowned slightly at the mention of creepy people. The fact that it was true only made him more ashamed of where he was living. "Yeah, it does," he said sadly. Surely it wasn't all bad, though, right? Even if the relative lack of safety meant they couldn't be out of the house too late at night, there was still plenty of fun stuff to do. And their mom's friend was perfectly nice! Most of the time, anyway. "B-but it's not like we've had anything bad happen to us, at least! And if anything did, Isaac'd be there to help protect me." In Elliot's mind, that was pretty much the one certainty he could always count on.
Isaac couldn't help but grin a little at Maia's concern for them. "Nah, you don't gotta worry about anything," he said. "We got here soomehow, so I'm sure we can find the way again. But thanks a lot for checking up on us. I'd be sure to let you know when we're home safe if I still had a phone on me." He elected not to let Maia know that, before today, they didn't really do much navigation on their own. He wasn't about to just let her get even more worried. Of course, even if he wanted to explain there was no time for it. Not on Kyaromon's watch, at least. Okay, okay, lets not keep the fluffball waiting anymore," Isaac added, a tiny bit of exasperation in his voice. "When you're ready, lead the way!"

The teen was about to voice further concern about their living location, but Kyaromon piped in with a, "they can turn into a Digimon, Maia! They're tougher than any normal person, anyway!" Oh, well, she really couldn't argue with that. But, knives and guns were still a little iffy, as far as she was concerned. Not that there seemed to be an abundance of people with guns in Japan, anyway. But, the tamer was going to leave it at that, since Digimon logic seemed a lot different than human logic.
"I guess," Maia sighed, "I've still never actually seen a Digimon in a fight, though, so I'll just have to take Kyaro's word on it." It seemed like the boys had been through more than enough for the day to prove that they could handle a walk home, anyway. Right? "Would your mom let you borrow her phone to call me when you get home? If she has caller I.D., my number should be on it, anyway," Maia suggested, in a roundabout way trying to remind Isaac that he had used her phone to call his mom. But, maybe they weren't allowed to call people from her phone? Or, they didn't want her to know about the lack of them having phones, at this point.
Feeling her pocket buzz, the girl shifted a bit to pull her phone out. Her dad had responded to her text, to no surprise. Furthering the lack of surprise, he didn't really care that she was having company over. Her mom, on the other hand, didn't respond. She was probably still too busy. Shoving the device back into her pocket, Maia adjusted the groceries, and began walking in the direction of her house, making sure not to walk too far ahead of the brothers. "So, where exactly are you both from?" They were on vacation, after all! That meant that had to live somewhere else!

"See? He's right," Isaac interjected proudly. "Trust me. I had to have a fistfight with some freaky knight guy just to get this far. I'm more than capable of taking care of myself and my brother.
Do you want me to promise you I won't get hurt? Will that make it any better? Because if so, I'm promising right now. Nothing's getting past me." Maybe it was silly, but he almost felt like his pride was on the line here. She had to know he was capable of handling his own, right? If there was one thing Isaac hated, it was being underestimated. Even when it was for the best of intentions.
"Probably," Elliot added as Maia asked her next question. "I mean, we'll have to tell her we lost our phones anyway if we want to have new ones. And it just isn't that easy to not have one these days." It was bad enough getting lost in another world. At least there was adventure. Getting lost in Shibuya was more like hectic crowds and garbage. Speaking of Shibuya, it was time for some comparisons!
"We're from California. Never really been outside of there until now. It's pretty different, but I like it. A lot colder though."
"Our dad's still there. Kind of miss seeing him, but I'm sure we'll be back there soon enough," Elliot added, Isaac suddenly looking a little uneasy.
"So where are you from?" Now that was a quick topic change!

Still walking, Maia spun around to face the two, putting her hand out toward Isaac, closed with only the pinky finger extended. Smiling at the older of the boys, she chimed an almost-innocent sounding, "pinky swear?" Yep, the girl was pulling a middle-school promise on the other teen! But, hey, if that's what it took to make her stop fretting over the brothers' well being, it was worth it!
California brought the thought of sun and beaches, although the tamer knew that not all of state was actually like that. "Oh, why didn't your dad come on vacation?" Maia asked, unknowingly. She had picked up on Isaac's change in expression and almost immediately regretted asking, however. Trying to throw in another question to veer from the one she had asked, the blonde added, "is California pretty? I've never been there." It was always interesting to hear about other places! Her old friends had commented about going there when they were older, but Maia wasn't entirely sure that any of them would travel there. Wasn't that state pretty much everyone's dreams to escape to?
Now, the question was thrown back to her. "I'm from Illinois," she answered, fixing her bangs a bit. "Pretty much right outside of Chicago." There was a pause, as if debating on trying to make it sound like it was a little less scary than a lot of people depicted the city to be, but decided that it was better off left alone. After all, a lot of people didn't really see Maia as much of a city-based person. And, she wasn't interested in being one. Shibuya was more than enough city for the rest of her life, but at least it wasn't a huge adjustment.
"Maia drew a picture of Chicago once! I want to go there someday! It looks giant!" Kyaromon piped up, sounding as excited as ever, only for his tamer to lightly hit the purse as a kind reminder to shut up.

Isaac looked somewhat exasperated at the rather childish gesture. Maybe it was his shortness and youthful face that were the root of it, but he hated being taken lightly like that. It made him worry that people saw him as some sort of stupid kid, and not somebody that can be taken seriously in his own right. "You can trust me, seriously," he added, a tiny bit of hurt pride slipping through his voice. Thankfully, Elliot was far less concerned with that kind of thing, and happily took Maia up on the pinky swear. At least now nobody's feelings would be hurt!
"Oh, it's beautiful!" Elliot said. "It's always so nice and warm, and the water's beautiful. We're from the city, but when we go to the greener parts there's so many beautiful trees!" Talking about home always made Elliot feel a little prideful, even if in this case it reminded him of how much he missed it. Sure, Japan was nice! But Greater Shibuya was really starting to feel kind of skeevy. He was starting to wish, if they kept staying there, that they could find some cheap place in the residential district.
"Illinois? I've never been there," Elliot said. "Could you tell us what it's like?" Really, California and now Japan were basically the greatest extents of his travel experience. Now he had a chance to hear about something brand new, and he was really excited to know what it was like.
"Do you still miss it there?"

Maia bit her lip at Isaac's reaction to her request, but Elliot quickly fixed the situation. "Alright," she murmured, turning again to walk normally. "I know, pinky promises are kind of dumb, but they make me feel better, for some reason," she tried to explain, feeling a little silly about the whole thing. If Elliot hadn't been there, she'd have felt pretty stupid, but at least he had managed to clear the air pretty fast. Maybe she should have left the gesture in America, with her friends.
The girl listened to Elliot's explanation of the place that he was from, trying to imagine it. It sounded pretty nice, honestly. "Maybe, I can convince my parents go to on vacation there, someday," she suggested, lightly. It wasn't entirely unlikely, considering her dad worked for a company that gave paid vacation time. After all, trees and beautiful water was enough to have her sold.
"Illinois is... nice. It's kind of cold most of the year, though," the blonde hesitated, trying to think of a way to describe the place. It was pretty average, honestly. Certainly not beautiful, from where she was from. I wasn't, uh, allowed to go outside much," she admitted, quietly. The news about all sorts of dangers in Chicago always had made her mom too anxious to let her even sit on the sidewalk outside of their home. Trying to save the statement, she added, "but, Chicago's pretty cool! There's a Ferris Wheel on Navy Pier, and a lot of places to shop and eat. It's really fun!" Not that she was supposed to actually have been to this area. Oh. That reminded her. "And, uh, don't mention that I've been there in front of my parents, okay?" A nervous laugh followed that request, as she remembered that her mom still had no idea that the girl had even been to the lake, let alone to such a crowded area without them!
Then, Isaac's question was answered without hesitation, "nope." Now, the three had reached the residential district, and she was glancing at a few of the houses. "I mean, I kind of miss some of my friends, but..." Did that sound bad? What was there to miss about the place?
Reaching her home, the girl checked the handle on the door. Unlocked, of course. Her dad never bothered to lock the door when he was home. At least she didn't have to hunt for her keys. Gently swinging the door open, Kyaromon had already weaseled himself out of her purse and flung himself into the house. He really didn't care if her dad saw him, but it was still pretty desirable for him to keep hidden! "Uh, so, this is my house," Maia smiled, motioning the two to come in. A short way in the door, they'd see the living room, with a couch in front of a television, and overall American styled look to it. Not that Maia really knew if there was really a difference in style to other houses; she hadn't been to anyone else's home since arriving to this city!
Once given a point to set her groceries down, she pulled her phone out of her pocket and sent a text to her dad again, to tell him that she was home. Was it weird that she was texting him when they were both in the same house? Oh well. "You can make yourselves at home," she suggested, making a couple gestures, "bathroom's by the stairs, kitchen's over there." Those were the only important rooms right now, right?

"Oh." Well, now Isaac felt pretty shitty. He looked down slightly as he walked, pace slowing. He tried to think about how he would explain himself. Could he even explain himself? "Gah, I'm really sorry. I just-" This was going to sound really stupid, wouldn't it? "I guess I was just worried you were mocking me or something. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or anything. I'm sorry." After that the boy fell silent, wondering how he let himself be so foolish. It might've been necessary for him to drop his guard more often. If it lead to upsetting really cool people like Maia, staying on edge all the time just wasn't worth it.
"That'd be cool!" Elliot said, steering the conversation back to a lighter place. "Maybe you'd be able to see us there, too. I'd hate to lose touch with you after we left Japan, after all." He smiled peacefully as she answered the rest of his questions, nodding along with interest. "Oh, I know how you feel. Mom's always kept us under lock and key too. Especially after-"
He didn't really want to say more. Just one look at Elliot made what he was about to say obvious, anyway.
Isaac could only nod in response to what Maia said. He felt the exact same way, but he didn't want to offend Elliot by just saying it outright. It wasn't even like he had too many friends back there to miss. He was more sociable, maybe, but Elliot was always the one who ended up holding friends closer to his heart. Isaac tended to feel strongly at first, and then drift out of touch as little rifts and disagreements began to set root. It was a vicious cycle, and one he wished he had more luck with breaking.
Maia's house was a nice breath of fresh air, arranged much more similarly to how their old home in California was. Immediately, the exhausted boys flopped right onto the couch, as still as stones. They had a horribly long day, and this was the first chair they'd seen in hours. Eventually Isaac worked up the strength to lift his head from off of the couch, telling Maia "Your house looks really nice!" Elliot nodded eagerly in agreement, a bright smile on his place.
And there, on the couch, was likely where the two would stay fainted for a good while. They really needed their rest!

The teen threw Isaac and incredulous look, "why would I mock you?" That thought hadn't even crossed her mind! What reason would she even have to do something like that? Maia began rubbing one of her arms with her other hand, trying to figure out what could have been offensive. There was a hesitation, as she debated to herself for a moment, before extending her arm slightly. Another hesitation, as she took a quick breath, before fully sticking her hand out again, pinky extended. "Second chance for the promise?" Also, a second chance to look absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully, it wouldn't be in vain, as there were only so many times that Elliot could save the same situation!
"Well," Maia started, "we won't lose touch regardless, okay?" This sounded upbeat enough to be convincing! "You'll just have to let me know when you get new phones," she suggested, with a smile. Sure, she'd be up to the task of more long distance friends. It's not like they would be the first. Timezone differences would probably take a while to memorize, though. Hearing the younger brother cut himself off from finishing his sentence, curiosity stung at her tongue. After a bit of effort, she managed to pretend that she hadn't noticed the sudden cease of whatever he was going to say.
Moving groceries to their respective places, the tamer flashed a smile to the two on the couch, and the compliment to the home, before going to work on making cookies. Kyaromon took this opportunity to hop onto the couch with the two boys, finding a little gap that looked comfortable enough, and flopping down. The Digimon had potential to be a lap-pet, yet!
Pausing what she was doing, Maia leaned out of the kitchen, "do you guys want anything to drink? We've got... uh," she paused, to look back into the kitchen, "tea, milk, coffee, and... a bunch of soda," or, did they call it 'pop?' Who knew! "Any preferences?" As she asked, she went back to working on the cookies until an answer would be provided.
Needing to break any silence that may have been found peaceful, the little Digimon had to pipe up, "do you think you'll ever come back to Japan to visit?" That was... Well, a more coherent question than anyone could really expect from the Digimon, but he did like to bundle up bits of knowledge! Maybe, he was worried about the two going away forever?

Isaac sighed as he tried to plan his explanation. What was he supposed to say? That he was sick and tired of being treated like a kid by people just because he had a babyface? That when people picked on him back at home, it was usually by taunting him with all sorts of kiddie terms? That he was prone to suspecting others first and accepting them second? It all sounded so stupid when he said it like that, and it only made him feel worse for doubting the girl in the first place. "It's nothing. I was just being stupid," Isaac muttered. In a way, he was almost thankful that the thought of teasing him didn't even seem to cross Maia's mind. He wasn't exactly the most popular person back at home, after all.
He still didn't really want to pinky swear, of course. But if she was going to be insistent, he might as well play ball. He took her finger in his, saying "Promise."
Elliot shifted slightly to help make room for Kyaromon. This wasn't even his couch! It'd just be rude of him to hog it all before the poor fluffball could get space, after all. He turned to Isaac, to see if his brother had any drink preference, only to see that Isaac was already starting to doze off. He laughed a little, then turned back to Maia. "Just water, please, if that's alright," he said. Years of his mom's rants about soda came back to haunt him. At this point, water was basically the only choice around.
He turned to Kyaromon drowsily. Wow! That was actually a really good question! "I'm not sure, sorry," Elliot answered. "I kind of doubt it though. This one trip was a lot for our family already. I don't know if we'd have enough for a second trip. It'd definitely be something to think about in the future, though!"
