Maia was about to ask Isaac, but seeing that he was already half asleep, she just mouthed an 'oh,' before getting a glass to fill with water. Bringing it out to Elliot, she paused to place a hand on her hip, and stare at the older of the brothers. Well, at least he seemed to be comfortable! The blonde couldn't help but smile at it. But, when Kyaromon's question was answered, she threw an odd look between Elliot and her Digimon. "Since when did you start making sense, Kyaro?" she teased, before returning to the kitchen to prepare cookies.
The best response that she could get was, "I ate one of your socks last night." What? Hopefully, that wasn't true, but it was hard to tell with Kyaromon! Maybe he just knew how much she hated mismatched socks. Hopefully, it wasn't a colorful one. But, as soon as his tamer was out of earshot, he tilted his head up to Elliot, climbing so that his front paws would be on the spirit user's leg, seeming to plan to use the leg as a pillow. "If you can find a portal to the Digital World in Call-if-orn-yeah," the digimon utterly butchered the state's name, "I bet we can find an intersecting spot to hang out in the Digital World." Okay, so he couldn't say 'California,' but 'intersect' was totally acceptable? What the heck? How smart was Kyaromon, actually?
The sound of two trays clinked about, before the oven door closed. Maia attempted to close it quietly, but the door really didn't know what 'quiet' was. Ah, well, she tried. Walking out of the kitchen, the girl had a small glass of milk. Without even seeming to think about it, the girl took up a seat on one of the arms on the couch. She was so used to taking the spot that the thought never crossed her mind that it could be considered rude to steal the armrest with her butt. Too late now!
"Cookies are in the oven," she noted, somewhat quietly. "what have you two been talking about?"
Kyaromon felt the need to interrupt, here, dutifully announcing, "telling Elliot about how I'm going to eat all your sketchbooks." Lovely. What a wonderful little critter. And, the best part was that this was a legitimate enough answer that Maia wouldn't question the real subject!
"Right. Of course you're going to do that," Maia state, dryly. It was pretty believable, after all. She was pretty sure that eventually, the monster was going to eat everything she loved.
"Want me to tell him about how you forget how to talk when I scare you, instead?"
There was a slight huff from the tamer, pursing her lips, before popping, "are you sure that box you came in didn't have a return address that I missed? I could really use it about now." Ah, the loving relationship between partner and tamer! Shifting the subject, Maia looked at Elliot, "are you in any clubs or sports at your school?"

The tiny fluffball seemed to alternate from saying surprisingly sage points to saying total nonsense at the drop of a hat. To say he was confusing to Elliot was a huge understatement. Then again, all of this spirit using nonsense was pretty confusing too. Not many people could say they turned into their big brother for a day. At this point, Elliot would believe anything.
"That's a really good idea," the boy responded, still somewhat confused by Kyaromon's sudden spurt in intellect. "I'm not sure if there are any, but it's the Digital World, right? There's no way it's just all stuck in one place. Maybe anywhere with a computer would work?" Sure, Elliot had no idea if his guesses had any basis, but surely it had to be called the Digital World for a reason.
When Maia sat down, Elliot instinctively scooted over to make more room yet again. Between the trio currently surrounding him in various positions, the poor boy looked downright compressed. "We were just thinking if there was a way to get to the Digital World from anywhere but Shibuya," the boy answered. "That way, maybe we could all see each other again when I have to leave."
Then the two started taunting each other, yet again. Elliot would've found it exasperating, if not for the fact that he'd been on the receiving end of it for 10 years at this point. Instead he just found it kind of silly. So did Isaac, apparently, because the boy began snickering slightly as he started to wake up. "It's okay. Elliot does the same," he said, the other boy reddening slightly in response. One of these days he was going to have to toughen Elliot up. Spend a night in the graveyard, maybe?
Then the question of sports came up, and Isaac paled a little. Oh no, of all the questions that could be possibly asked, this was the one Maia picked? Thankfully, the boy was quick on his feet. He turned to Elliot, saying "Hey, we're going to eat soon. Think it'd be a good idea to wash your hands real quick?" in a timely interjection. Looking slightly embarrassed at his forgetting, Elliot quickly scooted off to the bathroom.
"Sorry for interrupting like that," Isaac said, once his brother was out of earshot. "He still gets really sensitive about his leg. I didn't want to risk him getting glum thinking about it."

"Maybe!" the bunny monster nodded to Elliot. He seemed about to continue, until Maia had re-entered the room, then his demeanor altered again to being goofy. When Elliot tried to sell out what they were discussing, it was easy to trick the girl into believing otherwise just by his derpy face.
Listening to Elliot, the tamer smiled, "that's a great idea! Though... I don't know how well Kyaromon is, as far as having a conversation about that." Sure, she suspected the Digimon was smarter than he let on, but to actually have a smart conversation? Not a chance! Maybe, someday, the alien would surprise her! But, certainly not today. Especially because he had decided to take to licking a couch cushion. Nope, he had to be a moron.
Maia was slightly pink at the fact that Isaac had heard the encounter. He was supposed to be asleep! She could handle Elliot hearing it, just because he seemed too young to really care. Or, something like that. And, the younger brother seemed to just take things in a much nicer manner! Too late to care now, she supposed. Making a confused face, the girl watched the brothers quickly interact, and Elliot hurry off to wash his hands. What had she said now?
Oh. Right. He used a walking stick. Everything kind of clicked into place now. How hadn't she thought of that? "I'm sorry," she shifted on the arm of the couch. "I should have realized the stick was for a reason." Maia was a little slow on picking up obvious today. Like that there was no way that there was an actual animal under the trash can earlier, even. Maybe it had to do with her main conversations these days being with an insane rabbit monster. It had to be dropping her intelligence significantly! "Is it a recent injury?"

"Don't worry about it. You didn't know," Isaac said, a little worried that his coarseness ended up upsetting his new friend. This was the second time today he seemed to upset her thanks to being on the edge. This always happened, especially when Elliot wasn't around to help break the ice. He wanted to kick himself for his high-strungness, but it never seemed to die down. Of course, how could it? He was always the tense one, the one keeping guard, the one looking after his little brother. He never really had time to kick back and relax, and that often meant when a situation needed a bad guy he was the designated pick.
"It wasn't really recent. He's had it for about half his life now," Isaac explained. "But he's really sensitive about it. People used to pick on him a lot. Still do, sometimes. It's one of the few things that actually gets to him." In a way he admired how almost thickheaded his brother seemed about not noticing insults. No matter what the boy just kept on smiling, as if there wasn't a concern in the world. Sometimes he wondered what was wrong with Elliot. Sometimes, he just envied him. And when anything actually did get to the boy, Isaac was always there to help. Sometimes it was by pushing the thought away, sometimes it was by fighting back. Either way, Isaac being there was like a constant.
"Ugh, I'm sorry I've been so touchy today. It's dumb," he added, figuring that if anyone owed an apology here it was Maia. "It's just a lot to get used to, you know? I've always gotta look out for him so people can't hurt him. He's too nice for his own good. No mercy for people like that. I guess I just see trouble when there isn't any sometimes." Besides, his brother was always the good one. The worthwhile one. He was the one that needed protection and attention more, surely.
It just took its toll.

Noticing the change in tone that the conversation had seemed to take, Kyaromon circled once in place on the couch, like a cat, before curling into a laying position, tail wrapping to rest on his face. For some reason, this made the Digimon feel less visible, and could listen to the conversation without butting in. Instead, the alien pretended to doze out, while eavesdropping. Not that it really mattered, but there was no way he would actually stay silent if he was awake, right?
Maia wasn't even paying much mind to her Digimon, listening to Isaac's explanation of his brother. She couldn't imagine people picking on someone as friendly as Elliot. He was so sweet, she'd at least feel guilty if she made him sad. If only there was some way to stop the bullying. But, there wasn't. Especially from her perspective, as the brothers were only on vacation. She couldn't even do anything about how people would treat him in school.
Then, the apology threw her off. Was he not always like that? She'd known him for less than a day, so she didn't actually know! "It's not dumb," the blonde finally spoke, though rather quietly. "You have to do what you think is best," she started, thinking about what was said, "but, are you going to be able to be there to protect him forever?" Isaac almost sounded like a mom, in a way. It was something to respect, really, but would his little brother grow if he was used to always having someone shield him from the bad? Realizing that it could have come off as a harsh question, the girl hesitated, before adding, you're a good brother, though. I doubt a lot of siblings would care that much about their brother's happiness." Then again, she only had so many friends with siblings to base that thought off of.

She was right. He hated to admit it, but she was completely right. No matter his best efforts, he was only human. Something'd slip through eventually. Just like the slip that ended up getting Elliot hurt. Elliot's father never forgave him for that, and as much as he couldn't stand the man the negativity transferred over to Isaac. Even now, years later, he'd refuse to let another incident like that happen out of fear of future backlash.
And yet, what if something did happen? He'd just have to deal with it, and deal with the repercussions of his failure. He grew quiet at Maia's question, furrowing his brow as he tried to think just what to say. In a way, it made this whole Digital World thing a little bit more appealing. He could transform. He could fight his problems. Hell, he could apparently shoot lasers at them and made them explode! It was more than he could do here, where he was just 5 feet of scrawniness and anger. Sure, the danger was real, but the danger could also be beaten back. So far he seemed far better at handling it than he seemed to handle his problems at school. Maybe he'd spend more of his vacation just exploring the place, if only to get away from questions like this.
Then Maia snapped him back to reality. "Thanks," he said, feeling a tiny swell of pride at her remark. "I mean, all this time I figure if I don't, who will? Mom's always been really busy lately, so I'm pretty much all he's got." The slightest bit of resentment hovered over the last few words, but he did his best to keep it held down.

The tamer could probably never fathom what was going on in Isaac's head at that moment. Simply, she didn't know enough about the brothers. The silence and expression on the boy's face was enough to tell Maia that he was thinking about something, but she chose not to prod. She hadn't even known him for a full day, so it wasn't her place to go digging around in his emotional baggage. Or... whatever it was that he was thinking about. For all she knew, he could be thinking about fish, or something.
But, still, the comment of his mom being busy made her curious. It wasn't really being too nosy if he mentioned it first, right? "What's she busy doing, anyway? Planning for this vacation?" It seemed kind of weird to go through all the effort to come to Japan, when she wasn't even spending time with her kids.
"Maybe she's busy with her boyfriend from She-boo-yeah," Kyaromon mumbled under his breath, even managing to butcher 'Shibuya.' This was quickly followed with a small "ack!" as Maia pulled one of his ears and dragged him out from his comfortable state. What? Did she expect him to actually be quiet? He wasn't really asleep! Once she let go, he puffed up his cheeks, before returning to his curled up position.
"That's rude," Maia chided. Nobody had asked the little monster's opinion! Letting out a small huff, she glanced at Isaac, somewhat embarrassed about the alien's need to voice such a thought. "Sorry. He, uh, hasn't learned manners yet." That still really didn't fix the unwarranted blurting. Kyaromon wasn't gaining many bonus points today.
Cracking one eye open to look up at the probably-offended spirit user, Kyaro added a dull, "yeah, sorry for... that." Did he even know what he was apologizing for? Probably not, but he was mostly just taking cues from his tamer's reaction. What was wrong with stating his thoughts? It's not like he was being mean or anything! ...Right?

"For the most part," Isaac said. "It took a lot to even get us here in the first place, so she's been working really hard to make sure it even goes smoothly. It hasn't really been too eas-."
There it was. The same accusation he heard through the thin walls of his house whenever he couldn't fall asleep. The tone was different, but the words still bit every bit as deeply as they used to on those sleepless nights. It wasn't ever Shibuya. Shibuya was far too distant. But each time it was a different place, a different person. Tearful innocence would be pledged some days. Other days nothing but silence was in response. Regardless, Isaac always knew the unsaid second half of the question. It was the only thought going through his head right now, in fact. He stood up, practically biting down on his tongue in his attempt of keeping everything composed.
"Sorry," he finally forced out. "I gotta wash my hands."
A minute or so after the boy was gone, his brother had returned. Elliot flopped back onto the couch, not aware in the slightest of the conversation that had took place prior. It took a bit of shuffling to nestle into a suitably comfortable position, and a little bit longer to awkwardly balance his walking stick against the couch, but soon the boy looked rather peaceful. "Got a little bit turned around," Elliot sheepishly explained. "Having a nice chance to rest up?"

Wincing, Maia watched as the boy stood up, half expecting him to react far worse than he was. She didn't blame him. Her Digimon had been entirely out of line for making such a comment. Even if it held any truth, no child really wanted their parents to be in different relationships. Trying to ease herself out of her current state, the girl nodded briefly, exhaling heavily once he had left.
"Maia?" Kyaromon started, curled in his ball with both eyes shut. "What does 'sorry' mean?" What? He didn't even know? One would think that, with the way he always acted, he would have learned that by now! She'd heard him apologize before! What did he think he was saying?
Amber eyes were drilling holes in the little Digimon's head. "I'm going to have to teach you a lot," she mumbled, still working to fully compose herself. This is why she couldn't have nice things. He seemed fully capable of destroying not only her belongings, but the potential to have normal friendships. Could she really blame the Digimon that much, though? After all, he was born in her house. She was the one who failed to teach him properly. Maybe, Maia wasn't cut out for this. How hard was it actually supposed to be to raise him? Was she supposed to fail this miserably?
Elliot returning to the couch dragged the girl from her thoughts, as she parted her lips to find some sort of way to respond. "Oh, yeah," she finally answered, drawing a smile onto her face. She wouldn't have the younger brother upset, too. "Zoned out there for a minute," the blonde shrugged, trying to explain in case she had hesitated too long. "How about you?" After all, the spirit user had sounded like he went through a lot today.

Elliot looked a little concerned as Maia seemed lost about the conversation. She got all quiet and distant, like Isaac did sometimes. Was she okay? He looked at her curiously, but then smiled when she seemed to snap back into reality. See? She was okay after all! Maybe she just needed a bit of rest too. It was probably a long day for her as well, just like it was for the two brothers.
"Hm, you seem kinda tired," Elliot suggested. "Want a hand with the cookies? I'd hate to wear you out any."
How was he doing? That was a bit of a harder question to answer. He was still lost and confused above everything else. Japan got really weird since yesterday, with all this Digital World business. Frankly, he didn't think he'd ever be used to it. Especially the turning into a Digimon and fusing with his brother thing. He much preferred being Elliot, the completely independent, not a dragon at all human kid. Was this going to be a problem for his whole trip here? He sure as heck didn't hope so. If it was, it would only make going back home to California an even more appealing option.
It'd be better to not unload all those worries on another person, though. Especially not one as nice as Maia. "I'm okay. It's just been a long day," he said, trying to smile comfortingly. It was his main way of dissuading others from worrying about him. Sometimes it worked, at least!

"Ah, no, I'm fine," Maia quickly answered, with a shake of her head. Sure, she was tired. She'd been tired since an egg appeared on her doorstep. Japan was weird and full of alien-monsters, and maybe -- just maybe -- the tamer needed some sanity in her life. Alas, she knew the likeliness of that was pretty low. She needed to learn to adapt more easily. "The cookies just need to be checked on in a little bit. I think I can handle it. It was a nice thought, though.
Kyaromon felt the need to try to exercise some more energy now, ears perking up, "it's been a cool day, though, right?" The monster started, rolling onto his back. "I mean, how many people can say they've become digital? I bet you could blow stuff up, or fly, or... something!" Wow, now he sure was chipper! Was the bunny fond of Elliot? "It's like an ultra-amazing souvenir! To be able to go all, 'pow pow'! And," the monster paused, realizing that he honestly had no idea what VictoryImpmon was capable of doing. Looking around the room rapidly, he finally added, "and you'll be able to save damsels in distress! Wouldn't that be cool? And it's all 'cause of this amazing day that you're having. Which will end in delicious cookies." What was the Digimon even saying now? Did he know what a damsel was? His tamer was pretty positive that he'd lost all focus on whatever point he was attempting to achieve.
"Tone it back a bit, Kyaro," the tamer advised, but was likely ignored. At least he wasn't sounding mean this time. It could always be worse, right? Hopefully, that thought wouldn't jinx it. "I bet you'll sleep well tonight, at least," Maia smiled, trying to find a bonus to the concept of a long day. Chances were, she would not.

Elliot shook his head slightly at what Kyaromon was saying. "I dunno. It all just feels so weird," the boy said. "I mean, I'm not a Digimon. I'm a human. I'm still not used to suddenly just turning into, well, not me. Besides, it was all really scary, and people could've gotten hurt badly. I mean, I'm not some hero who could actually help with this. I'm just a kid."
It was a shame. These powers were really pretty cool. They just weren't for him. Besides, what happened if Kyaromon was wrong, and there wasn't a portal back to the Digital World? Was he going to be abandoning this world he was given the powers to protect? Could he even protect it? He was so small and scared. It was way too much for him to handle, especially after the long day he had. More than anything he wished this burden could be shifted onto someone else, someone who could've actually done something good with them. As far as he could tell, giving this transformation to him was just a big waste.
Thankfully, Maia was there to help steer the conversation in a better, more familiar direction. "I don't know if I'll wake up after this," he joked. Sure, it was an exaggeration, but he knew he was on a fast track to passing out after the absolutely massive day he had. Frankly, the only thing keeping him from passing out here and now was the fact that it'd be horribly rude to fall asleep in another person's house.
Well, that, and the promise of delicious cookies of course.

To be honest, Maia wondered if she'd have preferred to be a Spirit User. Sure, it would be a little more strain, but at least she wouldn't feel powerless, then. After all, her neighbor had been put in the hospital not that long ago from a Digimon attack. She didn't want to be in a position like that, being defenseless. Especially being both defenseless and completely useless. Sure, the tamer was supposedly helpful to Kyaromon, but how? She just held him back, and he stressed her out enough as was.
The digimon speaking would likely snap both humans from the thoughts of stress, as he shouted a, "hey!" while puffing up his cheeks, trying to look pouty. "I'm totally digital and in the human world! How do you think I feel?" There was a pause, as his tamer mulled this over. He kind of was like a fish out of water. Before she could dwell on it, the monster became cheerful again, "plus! People could've gotten hurt, but it sounds like they didn't! So it's all good! Everyone can be heroes! Kids, too! They can make the best ones! Again, Kyaromon paused, ears perking up, "I wanna be a hero! We could help each other be hero-ly!" Oh no, another one of the Digimon's attempts to make everyone be a hero or adventurer with him.
Maia still smiled at the boy's comment, "I bet! Your day sounds exhausting." Hearing the timer beep in the kitchen, the girl stood up and made her way to the oven. The sound of the door clanked through the house, as she pulled the pan out with a mitten. Closing the over door, she set the pan on the stove to cool, and hunting for a toothpick to stick into the center of one of them. They seemed done enough! Leaving them in the kitchen for a bit, the girl returned to the living area. "They're done. They just need to cool for a bit," she informed, quietly, while sitting back down on the couch. To this, Kyaromon's eyes went wide and he began running in a little circle on one of the cushions, in excitement. Cookies were soon!

"Oh."
Truth be told, the thought didn't even occur to Elliot. It didn't help that, unlike he and Isaac, Kyaromon didn't even have a choice. The little guy was just born, bound to a human, and forced to grow up in a world that wasn't even his own. Was that really fair? He might not have even known his home, wherever the heck that was for Digimon. The thought sat uncomfortably in Elliot's head for a while, but as the Digimon perked up and moved on, so too did Elliot move on from the idea. "Maybe you're right," he replied, hesitantly. "I mean, if you're believing in me, I guess I'm doing a pretty okay job of it. So sure thing! Let's be heroes!" Just like that, any bit of bad mood seemed to wash away. Elliot was strangely resilient with that sort of matter.
As if on cue, Isaac returned as well. He still seemed a little shaken up, but by now had calm greatly. Elliot smiled as his brother joined him on the couch, the two slowly settling into the seat's comfort. Of course, that was probably a little bit too soon, because apparently the cookies were ready now! Elliot beamed and practically launched out of his seat, wobbling slightly as he tried to steady himself with his walking stick. "Yes! They smell amazing!" he exclaimed, perking up a bit more at the deliciousness of the smell. It was a shame he didn't get to help out any, but it was really good that Maia had the situation under control as-is!
Isaac rose as well, his smile more gentle than Elliot's full-force grin. "Hey, thanks a ton," he said as he turned to Maia. "You didn't need to go this out of your way for me and my brother, but I really appreciate it. Guess we owe you one, eh?"

Kyaromon was actually pretty indifferent toward the fact that he wasn't in the world that he belonged to. Eventually, he would show Maia more of his world, and all would be good! Not that he really knew anything about his own home, but that was fine. At least in the Digital World, he didn't have to hide from the public, considering it consisted primarily of his own kind. Hearing someone agree to be a hero with him, he shouted a, "yay! Heroes!"
At least someone could entertain the Digimon's thoughts. Maia usually shot him down in an attempt to keep him from being reckless, and just about everyone else responded with 'you're too little.' But maybe this wasn't Elliot's response because he was actually pretty young, himself? The In-Training needed a positive force like this boy in his life! It was pretty unfortunate that the spirit user would be going back to America after a short while.
Maia found herself smiling at how excited everyone seemed to be about the cookies. Hopefully, they were up to everyone's standards. Kyaromon certainly loved them, but would the other two? Almost instinctively, the girl moved an arm, about to help steady Elliot, but quickly retracted it. She didn't want him to think that she didn't have faith in his ability to handle himself. Hearing Isaac, she threw an almost confused look to him, before waving her hand in a dismissing fashion, "Huh? Oh, nah. You already helped me find my way to the store," not that she wouldn't have figured it out, eventually, but the additional company made the trip better, anyway. Still, her smile had grown slightly. At least the older brother didn't seem quite as upset anymore. It eased her mind slightly.
While the friendly acts were nice and all, Kyaromon felt the need to scramble up his tamer's clothing, clinging to her shoulder. "Cookies now, Maia!" the digimon insisted, before leaping off of his tamer and spinning in a circle. When she didn't immediately move to get him a cookie, he began to climb on her again.
"You're going to burn your tongue again," the blonde warned, but the little monster didn't care. With a small sigh, she shrugged, "okay, but I warned you." The tone was still playful, so Kyaromon knew she didn't really care, either way. Maybe he'd learn after a few times. There was a short pause, before she looked at the brothers. "Oh, a little off topic, but if you two have some spare time before you go back to California, do you want to hang out again?" The company was nice, after all.
