The offer was pretty surprising, considering that the pair were random tourists who she found in a garbage can. Still, the boys greatly appreciated it. Isaac smiled warmly at the offer, thankful that this vacation would get a lot more interesting. Hanging out with Maia would be something fun and less deadly than the Digital World. Even when Digital matters came up, Maia would be the perfect person to ask for assistance. She wouldn't just ditch the pair like that FlaWizarmon did, at least.
Oh yeah, Isaac was fully prepared to hold a grudge over that. If he'd just stuck his neck out for the boys, they wouldn't have been chased halfway across the plains by a killer tank.
"You know it," Isaac said cheerfully. "Not like we'll be too far from Shibuya anyway, so we'll have a lot of free time to chill with you. And hey, if you're ever going back to the Digital World and need some backup, you can count on us to have your back." Elliot seemed a little startled at suddenly being press-ganged into this, but he quickly allowed it. After all, he did promise to become a hero with Kyaro, right? This would be an essential first step along the way.
"Anything you had in mind?" Elliot asked, wondering if the girl had anything in particular she wanted to do. Video games? That'd be fun! Although Isaac wasn't always the biggest on them, it'd definitely be a way to pass the time on rainier days. Already his mind was racing with possibilities and excitement, wondering what he'd be able to do with his brand new friend. It was definitely a bright spot on this vacation as it took a dark turn. It almost made him want to stay around longer!
Who was he kidding? He'd still end up missing home by the end of the day. But today he figured he should take his mind off of it, and just enjoy his time here. A trip like this was only once in a lifetime, after all.

Hey, one person's trash was another person's treasure, so who was to say these two weren't gold? Aside from a couple of bumps, Maia seemed to be enjoying their company so far! It was pretty relieving to hear Isaac agree so quickly to the idea of spending more time with her. After Kyaromon's comment that had made him leave the room so suddenly, her main concern was if he would even be able to tolerate being in the room much longer. Nobody could fault him for how quickly the spirit user seemed to calm himself, at least.
"Digital World?" Maia echoed, at first coming out softly, only to turn to an almost concerned question, right before her Digimon perked up.
"Digital World!" the monster echoed, far too excitedly. Oh no, Maia knew this was going to happen the second it had been suggested. "We need to go there sometime! We can explore! It'll be fun!"
But... didn't the two just have an awful day in the Digital World? Why was that even suggested?! "We... We already went there, Kyaro. We're in no hurry," the tamer began, half concerned, and half trying to settle the clearly excited Digimon. They-they probably need a while to relax from their visit there, today."
Kyaro looked his tamer dead in the eyes, determined. "But they had adventures! I'm gonna be a hero!" Surprisingly, the monster went quiet for a second, probably waiting for the girl to respond, but when she didn't, he continued in a flat voice, "Maia, what did we do last time we went there?"
"...We ate noodles."
"And?" Maia could see the point that her pet was trying to make, but she wasn't giving up the topic either.
"I had a conversation with a talking monkey that made us noodles and Yuuto used his Digimon's face as a table. It was great. We came home before anything could eat us." This wasn't what Kyaromon was hoping for. He was expecting a 'we went home' response, in which he could try to sway the girl to his side. Eating, while great, was insufficient!
Thinking about how Elliot and Maia had both looked when he had commented on not being from the Human World, the Digimon came up with a new tactic, "But... But, I've only been there once, and I'm a Digimon," the monster murmured, almost sadly. He didn't want to lay it on too thick. "I want to see where I come from! We never even left the city there!"
Not knowing how to respond to this, the tamer looked at the spirit users for some form of help. What was she supposed to say? She didn't want to drag the boys to the Digital World to let Kyaromon run around like an idiot and get the three of them hurt! Finally, she decided to address Elliot's question, rather than respond to her own Digimon. "I, uh, didn't have any ideas yet. Is there anything you'd want to do?"

Isaac shot Maia a quick, apologetic look after her confused echo of his words. After being hurt so bad by an errant comment gone wrong, it was almost karma that an incidental comment of his own would end up causing the girl trouble. He swore slightly under his breath, a little annoyed that he messed up and got his new friend a bunch of extra stress. Sure enough, it sounded like Kyaromon had heard them and started excitedly talking away about the Digital World. Quickly, Isaac realized the topic was forbidden to just toss into the conversation out of nowhere, but by then it was too late. For now all he could do was just keep silent, figuring it'd only make the situation worse if he started interrupting and running his mouth about something he didn't know about.
Thankfully, Elliot was first to swoop in. The boy was naive and not exactly the most perceptive, but for immediately-apparent issues such as this he generally spoke up far before Isaac did. "Don't worry, Kyaro," he said, quiet and gently. "I'm sure we'll be going back soon! But it's really late today, and Shibuya's not that safe at this hour. Besides, your human's had a long day. She's probably really tired. And if you leave now, the cookies will all be cold by the time you get back! You wouldn't want that, would you?
We'll look for your home in a few days. I promise. That sound okay to you?"
Isaac, noting Maia discomfort, figured now would be the best time to speak up. Besides, with Elliot distracting Kyaromon, it'd be the girl's best chance to speak candidly about the matters. "We should go bring out the cookies for these two now," the boy suggested. "Want me to come give you a hand?" Of course, as he said that he was already heading towards the kitchen, setting up a convenient escape route out of the conversation.
If Maia followed him and Kyaro stayed behind, it would be the perfect time to bring up some important questions. "You okay?" he'd ask, once sure the two were alone. "You seemed kind of worried back there."

Elliot's words seemed to quickly calm the Digimon, though it was really just that someone had fallen into his plans! "I... do like warm cookies," Kyaromon agreed, starting to come around. Being notably more careful than he normally was with his own tamer, the In-Training slowly worked his way up the side of the boy's clothing, to try to sit on his shoulder. Sure, Maia could handle Kyaromon just kind of pouncing at her, but knowing that the Spirit User had a bad leg made him be a little more cautious. Plus, he didn't really want to get thrown off, in the case climbing was not permitted. "But... we will explore it, right?"
Maia decided to leave the conversation to the two of them, trying to slow her heartbeat back to normal. "It's okay, I've..." But, Isaac was already on his way into the kitchen. Well, she guessed the question was more a courtesy than actually asking. "Okay," was her adjusted response, as she went to follow him into the kitchen. Kyaromon was too occupied to even care that his tamer had left the room. It's not like she left the house without him!
Once they were in the kitchen, the girl was going to go about getting the cookies, but paused hearing the question. "Ah, yeah, I'm..." there was a pause. Was she actually okay? "Just... stressed," she started, turning to look at the teen. Crossing her arms, she leaned against a counter in the room. "Kyaromon... can't even digivolve," she mumbled, the sentence growing more quiet as it progressed. After all, it was her fault that he couldn't. "If we go to the Digital World, we're going to die." Anyone that didn't know what a Digimon was capable of would probably find this an exaggeration, but it really wasn't. "I know someone who was bitten by some sort of Digimon," she hadn't had a chance to talk to Kai much aside from briefly at the hospital, since then. "I don't want to end up dragging anyone down because I can't do anything either, I guess." On one note, this felt important to tell someone that was offering to risk their safety to entertain a girl and her Digimon, but she also felt like she was burdening him with such a stupid concern. "I, uh," it seemed like the thought of being a burden had finally clicked, after the sentences had come out, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to just... dump all of that on you." There was a small, almost fake sounding laugh that escaped the girl's lips with the final few words. Ugh, she felt like she was being such a drag!

"We will. I'll make sure of that."
It was strange. The shyness and doubts the boy had shown not even an hour ago seemed to evaporate completely, vanishing into a spark of determination shining in his eye. The tone of his voice was warm but firm, another sign of the strange, new resolve being displayed by the boy. It was almost as if, for the sake of others, he could pull himself into a far more mature person. Then as quickly as this spark appeared it vanished, Elliot turning toward the kitchen door. What was taking Isaac so long? He didn't risk moving to find out, as if afraid of discomforting the perching Kyaro.
It turned out, the answer in this case was worry over a friend. Isaac's brow furrowed as he listened to Maia's concerns, quite a bit of them resonating with his own. The main difference between the two was that Maia seemed to hide, burying the worries beneath a normal domestic life and planning to avoid the digital world. In contrast, Isaac seemed to be already plotting how to make himself stronger. Only by diving headfirst into the danger and mastering it could Isaac truly be able to protect his brother. "Hey, I wouldn't count Kyaro out yet," the boy offered. "He's a prettybrave Digimon, and he's got a really kind person backing him up. That counts for aot, right? I'm sure you two will be fine." He tried to keep his tone reassuring, not dismissive. The kind of voice he took on while Elliot was recovering from surgery, for example.
However, as he continued, he found himself feeling a little hot. Was he blushing a little? "Besides," he added, feeling a little silly about his incoming offer. "It's not like you need to handle it alone. We're here to help now too. And if you're ever feeling a little worried about am adventure, I could try and help protect you. I-I mean, I'd hate for you to get hurt or anything."
Yep. Definitely blushing.

Kyaromon could hear the resolute tone of the boy, as he made himself comfortable on his shoulder. Yay! New lookout post! He debated trying to climb onto the spirit user's head, but decided that this was a good enough place for now. One step at a time! Plus, he wanted to be ready for when the cookies came out. "I like you, we need to stay friends forever," the digimon pointed out. Elliot was way too easy to work with! And, as long as the Digimon could get one person on his side, Maia didn't usually put up too much of a fuss against him. Still, his ears were twitching, hearing voices in the kitchen. They were taking too long! On top of that... did he hear his name? The In-training nudged Elliot with his face, looking toward the kitchen.
It seemed like Maia was mulling over what Isaac was saying to comfort her. Sure, her partner was brave, but bravery didn't mean a whole lot. It just meant he had a good chance of getting seriously hurt trying to do something stupid. Bravery could kill people. She didn't want him to sacrifice his safety for her own. But, she could still tell that Isaac was trying to make her feel better about the situation. "I guess," she murmured, thinking about it more. Elliot had already agreed to go with them to the Digital World, for Kyaromon, so it was a little late to pop his bubble, anyway.
The tamer looked at her feet, taking one hand to brush some of her hair behind her ear. Hearing the other teen start talking again, she looked up to see his face turning red. Was... was he blushing? At first, this caused her to gain a slightly confused look, but she still listened to what he was saying. "Protect me?" Maia echoed, again, a smile slowly forming onto her lips. Did she need protected? Hopefully not, but the thought that someone would go to that extent to make her feel better was... actually really nice. There was a moment that she debated on how she'd answer, feeling the warmth of a blush on her own face. Ah! It was contagious! "That," she paused, trying not to smile too much, "that would be nice."
Maia looked down for a second, glancing at the spirit user briefly, before turning to grab a plate to put the cookies on. "Oh, uh, cookies," she mentioned, breaking any chance for an awkward silence. "Elliot and Kyaro are probably getting impatient."

"You've got that right." Forever being a long time didn't really register in Elliot's mind. Kyaro was cool, Maia was cool, and he knew he wanted to see a lot more of them in the future. However, it seemed for now Kyaro was trying to get his attention about something, if his looks toward the kitchen door were any indication. He stepped a little closer to the kitchen door, not quite listening in but at the same time allowing himself to hear incidental dialogue a bit more closely.
He couldn't help but giggle a little at what was being said. It was really sweet of his brother to offer, but also hilarious compared to the mental image Isaac generally tried to get across. Elliot could barely hold in his laughter at Isaac, always trying to be cool and tough, suddenly being all kind and protective of people that weren't him. It was as if the side of Isaac only he usually saw was suddenly bleeding out a little to others, and it was equal parts sweet and strange.
Oh, thank goodness. Maia seemed to approve of the offer, instead of thinking Isaac was a big idiot for bringing it up. The boy let out a little sigh of relief, only to notice that Maia was starting to blush. Was it something he said? Was it the fact that he was fairly sure he was blushing too? It seemed like a bit of an awkward silence was beginning to settle, but thankfully the cookies came as a reminder to get back on track with the conversation. "Right, right. Wouldn't want to keep them waiting," he said, his coloration snapping back to normal. "Jeez, they smell great. You're good at this!"
He didn't seem to hear the giggling. Or at least, he wasn't acknowledging it any.

Forever wasn't overly long to the Digimon, who didn't really think about the fact that when humans died, they didn't just get reborn as eggs again. Oh, well, that wasn't something he had to concern himself with quite yet in life. All that mattered at the moment was that he had friends, and that the boy was such a pleasant human. Kyaro was also pretty lucky that Elliot seemed to catch on quickly. It was so much more fun to eavesdrop when other people were there to be a witness!
"You have to try one before you decide if I'm good at making them, first," the tamer smiled, taking a napkin to pull one of them off the pan and offer it to him before she'd take care of the rest. Hopefully it was good! After putting the cookies on a plate, Maia went to walk past Isaac, but paused. "You know," the girl shifted, "I think I owe you one, now, since you're going to be my protector and all," she teased, nudging him with her hip before walking back into the living area. Hopefully, that would lighten everything up.
Once she stepped out of the room, though, she instantly looked to the side, biting her tongue. The giggling and the look on Kyaromon's face more than implied that the conversation had been heard to some point. Well, so much for the blush leaving her face. Now, it felt hotter than before. How did she not think they would eavesdrop? Thinking about it, she nodded to herself, trying to decide how to handle this. "I'm hoping Kyaromon just told you a great joke," she finally decided on, before walking over to the coffee table in the room and placing the plate down.
To this, the little Digimon only grinned, shaking his head. What, was he at a loss for words? Knowing her luck, he was just waiting for Isaac to come out of the kitchen so that he could tease them both in the same room!

Isaac laughed warmly at Maia's teasing as he took the cookie she gave him. "So I'm your protector and test tester now, eh? Looks like I'm moving up in the world," he joked back, a slight blush still on his face as he took a bite of the cookie. His eyes lit up, and if it wasn't for the fact that talking with his mouth full would've been rude he would have started telling Maia how excellent her cooking was for sure!
Speaking of rude, Kyaromon and Elliot. For a second Elliot figured he'd try his best to look natural, but he knew by now that he was terrible at lying. Instead he gave up the ghost, not wanting Maia to be mad at him and Kyaro. "Sorry about that," he admitted. "I wasn't sure if you and Isaac would be out soon, and Kyaro seemed a little anxious, so I figured I'd bring him a little closer to you to calm him down." Not only did he own up to it, but he also fell on his sword so Kyaromon wouldn't end up stuck with any of the blame. After all, he was just a little Digimon! He didn't know any better!
Upon seeing Isaac, though, Elliot couldn't help but grin a little. The blush spread more, Isaac somewhat mortified by realizing Elliot was listening in the whole time. Thankfully, the boy seemed committed to trying to change the subject as quickly as possible. Elliot'd be getting his lecture for this later, although how he even got the idea in his head to listen in left Isaac somewhat confused. That was supposed to be his thing, darnit! Not Elliot's!
"Better get them while they're hot," Isaac advised. " 'Cause they're incredible!"

"Not buying it, Elliot, nice try," the girl crossed her arms, as Kyaromon hopped off the boy to get to the cookies. "Kyaro's too devious for your story." And, since when was Kyaromon anxious about being away from her? But, Maia couldn't blame Elliot for trying to save the reputation of the little monster.
It was true, though. Elliot gave Kyaromon's innocence far too much credit. The little Digimon knew a lot more than he let on, but Maia wasn't even sure how intelligent the creature was. After all, it only seemed like something that the Digimon would have managed to convince the boy into. Elliot didn't strike the girl as an eavesdropper, otherwise. Then again, he was still pretty young, so it was always a possibility.
Kyaromon made sure to wait until Isaac was in the room to add in his comment, much like Maia had anticipated. "So," he drew out, looking between the older two in the room. "Does that mean Isaac's your hero, Maia?"
And, then there was silence. Maia just stared at the Digimon, a look of almost murderous intent. Still, she was blushing quite a bit, and took a second to settle herself back down. The best response that she could find was to grab one of the cookies and offer it to the Digimon to keep him silent momentarily. "Theesh are amwazing," the digimon chewed, having the entire cookie in his mouth. Well, that didn't make him any more quiet, but at least he was distracted!
Somehow, though, the blonde found a way to smile at Isaac's compliment to the cookies, even though she was still thoroughly embarrassed. At least everyone should be distracted now!

Elliot looked a little sad at his attempt at saving face failing. Sure, Maia knew Kyaro better than he did, but he was sure the little guy meant well! Why else would he be nudging Elliot over to the door like that? However, despite his remorse, he still couldn't help but grin a little at Kyaro's comment. He didn't mean any harm by it. He just found it really sweet that anybody would value his brother that much. Thankfully, not having a malicious bone in his body seemed to extend to his face as well; his grin looked nothing but genuine as he smiled at the two. "I dunno, though," he added. "Wouldn't you be her hero, because you're her Digimon?"
That last innocent comment filled Isaac with relief, but the boy's furious blush still wasn't dying down. He almost wished he had some sort of plan on what to say. If he was more confident, there'd be some sort of one-liner he could pull out to counter. Maybe it'd be something he could tease Kyaro back with. Maybe it'd just be a line so smooth not even Elliot could taunt him about it. However, Isaac just wasn't that smooth, even if he wished he could be. He burned through his brain trying to think of a retort, but he figured a stutter of "S-shut up" wouldn't really do much to win over the crowd. Instead he kept quiet, taking another cookie and shooting Maia an appreciative look for it.
Once everyone had taken, Elliot decided to nab one as well. His eyes lit up with excitement, and immediately he found himself taking another few. "Isaac's right! These are great!" he said between bites. "You're too cool!"
A tasty, albeit non-nutritious, dinner of cookies, his brother getting a cool girlfriend, and a distinct lack of being dead. In Elliot's mind, everything was starting to go great!

"I can't be Maia's hero," the Digimon stated, matter-of-factly, as he swallowed his cookie. "I can't sweep Maia off her feet. I'm too little." Was that seriously what the In-Training's thought process was like? "Also, gotta be a man. Save the damsel, those things. I'm a Digimon, not a human." This logic was a little screwy, but Maia wasn't even going to bother correcting him anymore. "I'll protect her when Isaac's not around, though, so you don't gotta worry!" Somehow, Kyaromon thought this was being helpful, but it was really just making Maia want to put him back in his box again.
Why did her Digimon have to be like this?
At this point, Maia wasn't even fully embarrassed for herself. Isaac had become pretty quiet, so she was becoming concerned. What could she say to bring him out of his shell a little? At this point, probably not much. Instead, she looked at Elliot, hearing his compliment. "Thanks," she smiled, feeding her Digimon another cookie to keep him quiet. "I hope they're not too sweet, or anything." It didn't look like either of the boys thought that, and Kyaromon wouldn't have cared even if they were. After all, when they had gotten noodles in the Digital World, he had literally ordered a bowl full of sugar, rather than a legitimate dish.
Despite all of the embarrassment, the tamer was actually having a pretty good day. It was a shame that the two were only here on vacation. "So, are you both alright with coming with me and Kyaro to the Digital World before you head back to America? I don't want to force you into it." To this, the girl looked to Isaac first. After all, he had already offered to protect her, but she wasn't going to actually make him hold up that promise.

Well, crap. There was no arguing with Kyaro there. It wasn't like Isaac was too tall either, of course. There may have still been time for the growth spurt fairy to pay him a visit, but if the last year was any indication five-foot even seemed like it'd be the ceiling for his height. Elliot, on the other hand, had gone from bite sized to barely taller than his brother. If Isaac didn't know any better, he'd guess that Elliot would be the bigger of the two by far in a few years time.
"Hey, no need to worry so much," Isaac reassured her. "Elliot's pretty picky, and he's tearing through these like he's scared they'll run out on him." A somewhat guilty looking Elliot sheepishly slid his plate away, but Isaac shot him a kind grin. "It's a compliment, bro. Besides, you're a growing boy. You gotta keep eating." It seemed trying to be the responsible one helped get him back out of his shell. Oftentimes he and Elliot had to watch out for each other, even if it meant taking turns being the grown up.
Of course, then it was Elliot's turn to shine some light on his brother's habits. "Oh, trust me, Isaac always keeps his promises." he said, when Maia brought up doubts about them going to the Digital World. "I know he'd never let me down, and I'm sure he won't let you down either!"
"Besides, it'd be a big shame if we never bumped into each other again before I left, right?"

Maia found herself smiling again, watching the brothers. It made her almost wish that she had a sibling. Almost. But, hey, she kind of felt like she already fit pretty well with the brothers, so maybe it wouldn't be all that lonely, anyway. "Eat as many as you want," she suggested, trying to hold back a laugh. "Kyaro will eat them all, otherwise." That, and she was probably going to make more within the next couple days, anyway. Heck, maybe she should offer to have them take some home.
The little digimon wasn't going to argue, though, rapidly nodding his head with a cookie jammed in his mouth. Why'd he have to put the whole thing in there at once? It made it kind of hard to chew! But, he was glad that everyone seemed to be so happy! Cheerful times were the best! And, the Digimon wasn't entirely used to company at their house, let alone multiple people at once! Especially that he was allowed out around!
Maybe, sometime soon, the little monster would be free to roam the house. Maia still hadn't told her parents about her secret pet.
The blonde remained quiet for a moment, hearing both Elliot and Isaac's agreement. "You guys are kind of awesome," she spoke, while fixing her bangs and trying to hide a light blush on her face. Who would have thought she'd have found such great company in a trash can? "We definitely have to make this happen, then."
Kyaromon bounced up and down, finally gulping the whole cookie. He had failed to chew the thing at all, so the next best option was just to inhale it! Literally! "We're gonna adventure!" The bunny shrieked, looking at all of the people in the room. "We've got to find a cool place to explore!"

Elliot took that as open season on cookies. Frankly, with how he ate both quickly and cleanly, it was almost unnerving to Isaac how little of a trace was left behind of the cookies. Compared to the crumbs he'd built up with not even half of the cookies, it was like his brother was a living vacuum cleaner. Still, considering that they hadn't eaten since they had fallen into the Digital World, these cookies were practically miracles. They ate their fill, still amazed with how much the day turned around for them.
"Aww, you're too sweet," Elliot mumbled. This time it was his turn to blush. Direct compliments were a major weakness for the boy, especially coming from someone so cool!
"Heh, takes one to know one." It was true. For being so kind and understanding, for helping out his brother, and for being so hospitable, Maia really was one of the cooler people Isaac had met on his journey so far. If there were more people like her out in the Digital World, maybe this journey would go way more smoothly than he had feared.
Heck, who was he kidding? There seemed to be something special about her, at the very least. He knew as the day was drawing to a close, he was already excited to bump into her again. If one ting was for sure, it was that he had made a really incredible friend today.
Unfortunately, today was coming to a close. Elliot couldn't check the time, on account of his lack of a phone, but as the space in the windows grew darker he knew nighttime was settling."It's getting kind of late," he said, a tone of reluctance in his voice. "I think mom's gonna start getting worried."
