It was kind of funny to watch the two boys and Kyaro scarfing down the cookies. Maia watched more than anything, but that was all that she really wanted to do. She just made sure that her Digimon didn't eat too fast or drool on anything. It was getting dark, though, and considering where the brothers had to make it to a sketchy part of the city. Kyaromon didn't really understand this, though, so he let out a small, "aww," before climbing onto Maia's shoulder.
"So, you're sure you'll be able to make it back safely?" Maia was still concerned about the whole thing, but if they stalled too long, it would only make it more worrying. On top of that, her mom would probably be home soon, and she wasn't too fond of introducing boys to her mother. After all, the woman was... definitely a mom. On the other hand, "if you want, I could ask my dad to drive you home?" That would be safer, after all. She didn't imagine the two wanting to take the offer, simply out of stubbornness, but it was a better offer than nothing.
If it weren't such a creepy place, the girl would offer to walk halfway there with them. But, that was probably a bad idea and would potentially get her lost, so she wasn't going to go through that.
"I'd go and protect you, but I gotta make sure the monsters in the closet don't eat Maia tonight," the digimon stated, in such a determined tone. What monsters? This was the first time that he had ever mentioned something like that! Ack, now she was going to have to check her closet tonight to figure out what could be deemed a monster! Hopefully it was just an intimidating pair of shoes or something.

"Of course! I know Isaac wouldn't let me get hurt," Elliot said proudly. He still remembered one of the many promises Isaac had kept. When some kid kept messing with him by swiping his crutch, Isaac promised to give it to him next time. Tje resulting whack across the space lead to both a week's suspension and a pizza party of gratitude. How bad could the walk be with a protector like that? "Besides, he needs to practice protecting you, right? There was no way he'd be able to tease Isaac about Maia with her father in the car. Then they'd have to hear the Dad Speech.
"Heh, kick those monsters' butts." Isaac wasn't as much of an enabler as Elliot was, but he knew something about the Kyaromon seemed suspect. He was a lot smarter than he looked, that was for sure. Could other Digimon just materialize in the real world, so Kyaromon would need to chase then off? Nah, couldn't be. That would just be silly.
The boys lingered at the table for a bit, clearly reluctant to leave so soon but having full knowledge that their time here was up. "See you soon, I hope?" Isaac asked as he finally got up, starting to head to the door. Elliot followed, almost literal in his dragging of his feet. Such a quiet end to such a great day.

Well, it was true that Maia couldn't see Isaac letting his little brother get hurt. But, that didn't make her feel much better. There was only so much one person could do, after all! And then the teasing picked back up, with Kyaro snickering at the comment. A light blush brushed her cheeks, as she narrowed her eyes at Elliot, "should I hope something bad happens, then?" Of course, the tone in her voice made it clear that she was just joking. Especially because seconds later, she shook her head, adding a, "seriously, though, be careful."
As the boys shuffled their feet, Maia remembered something. "Oh!" Digging into her purse, the girl pulled out a notepad and a pen. "I almost forgot," she murmured, scrawling her name at the top of the paper in purple ink, and writing her cell phone number, along with her email below it. "When you get phones, text me," she insisted, with a pause, "or... you can call. Whatever you prefer." This was a surprising offer, since Maia usually rejected all of her phone calls. Even from her parents. But, maybe they weren't allowed to text. The girl didn't know!
With these statements, she followed the two to the door, holding the paper out for one of them to take. It didn't really matter, considering she knew that they'd both end up with it, either way.
"Don't worry! I will!" the monster nodded. There weren't really any monsters that he knew of, yet, but it was hard to tell. What if something targeted them in her sleep, after all? Maybe, that was paranoid thinking, but if people found out that Kyaromon was stuck as an in-training, they could easily take advantage of the situation. Once at the door, the monster sounded a little sad, but still excited. Bye, Elliot! Bye, Isaac!
"Definitely see you soon," Maia confirmed, nodding her head. She wasn't going to just let them leave Shibuya without at least one more day together! "If you don't contact me, I'll make Kyaromon find you two," she playfully threatened, as the monster nodded rapidly on her shoulder.
"I have a good nose!" the Digimon informed, excitedly. If he could actually find the brothers anywhere with it, Maia wasn't so sure, but Kyaro sure seemed confident!

"They can bring it on, for all I care," Isaac said, the fatigue in his voice really starting to set in. "I've had a rough enough day already, what's a bit more on the pile? Thanks for helping brighten it up, at least." Besides, this whole Digimon thing came with a lot of neat perks when it came to physical defense. VictoryImpmon could shoot lasers, teleport, and blow things up by punching them. And that was before Digivolving! Who knew how easy it'd be to protect Elliot with a few weeks of experience under his belt? Maybe it was him being borderline punch-drunk. Maybe it was him trying to project optimism onto the situation. Regardless, he had taken on the world already and was ready for Round 2.
"Bye guys!" Elliot said, the dynamic duo waving farewell to their newest friends. "Don't worry, we will. I bet Isaac can't wait to talk to y-"
"Night!"
The tactical interruption, performed with flawless execution. If it wasn't such a desperate save Isaac would've almost been proud. Soon, however, the two were out of door and back into the cold and darkness of the outside. Maia's house was nice, warm, and roomy, and it sure beat walking alone in the streets. It wasn't their home, though, and that meant the status quo was right back to where it usually was. Just Elliot and Isaac, side by side, keeping an eye out for each other and gearing on to take up the whole world. It was how things were since elementary school, how things were after the divorce, and now how things were in Japan. Friends along the way helped, but deep down Isaac always figured Elliot was the one he could rely on most.
Except that now he couldn't rely on him to stop making jabs at him! "You think she's cute," he trilled, stressing the U to an almost cartoonish extent. He gruffly lowered his voice in a bad attempt at impersonating his brother, flexing like some kind of pro wrestler as he talked. "I'll protect you, Maia! Look at my biceps!"
"Aw, stuff it," Isaac said, punching Elliot gently on the shoulder. "I mean, I protect you, and I don't think you're cute."
A look of mocking hurt spread across Elliot's face. "You said I was adorable!"
"Only because you wouldn't stop crying after Bryce said your ears were big."
"Was he the one you whacked upside the head with my crutch? Or was that Tommy?"
"What, am I supposed to keep track of all these guys? As far as I care they've all got one name: Dick."
"You can't say that!"
"It's the name of a President, I can say it."
And so on, so forth, into the night.
Maybe things wouldn't be so different after all.

Though it was clear that the older of the brothers was growing tired, but he still didn't seem to find the situation worrying. Somehow, this all made Maia feel a little better, regardless. She just had to keep remembering in a worst-case situation, a Digimon could likely beat a person. And, if it didn't beat them, two boys turning into one would probably scare anyone sketchy away, anyway.
With Elliot's farewell interrupted, the door was quickly closed, and Maia found herself moderately alone again, looking around the room. It was a lot less eventful without the boys, already. What a bummer. Still, she went to clean the table off and take care of whatever mess she may have left in the kitchen, with Kyaromon silent on her shoulder.
Well, at least, silent until it was pointed out. "Everything alright?" the girl questioned, putting plates in the sink. The in-training made a small hum, strangely seeming to debate on what he wanted to say.
"Did you know all along?" the bunny monster inquired, causing a confused look from his tamer. What was she supposed to know? About there not actually being a possum in the trash can? As she was about to answer, he clarified, "was it love at first sight?" The tamer froze in her tracks, halfway to putting a spoon into the sink.
"What?" was the best response she could come up with, glaring daggers into the little creature. "I met him in a trash can. That's not love, that's garbage!" That was, also, a bad argument. So bad, in fact, all Kyaro gave his tamer was a, "mhmmm," in response. This answer was clearly insufficient, as Maia tried to search for another one. "That's not... That's not how that works, anyway. You shouldn't be watching whatever's teaching you these things."
The digimon felt the need to pose his only real argument. "But, you didn't yell at him for being in the garbage! You never let me play in the garbage!"
Finally getting herself back into gear, the girl began cleaning some of the dishes. "That's because you sleep in my bed. I'm not letting you roll in trash and then try to cuddle with me," she defended, only realizing what was said too late. The little monster's eyes grew wide, as he opened his mouth to shout, but Maia quickly shoved the dish rag into his mouth, and went to grab a new one. "No. You don't get to speak anymore."
"But," the digimon began chewing on the rag to try to flatten it enough to get words around it, causing dishwater to begin leaking from the sides of his mouth. "You think he'sh handshome, right?" A hero had to be nothing less than dashing, after all!
With water dripping from the monster's mouth and onto her shoulder, Maia paused to lift the Digimon off of her by the scruff of his... neck? Little legs flailed, as she debated on dropping him into the soapy water. "Drop it, or I'll drop you." To this, the monster spit out the rag and let out another groan. Why was his tamer so serious?
"On one condition!" the little monster could feel the grip already loosening on his fur, but he ran with the risk anyway, "you make more cookies, since I didn't get to eat them all!"
And, with that, there was a splash of the little alien hitting the water, and a wail of distress, before he poked his head out at her. Maia smirked at the soaked Kyaromon, only briefly, before there was a small, "bluh!" as the monster sprayed water out of his mouth and at the girl. One would have thought that the tamer would have been mad, as she stood there, dripping. But, after a moment of staring blankly, she burst into laughter, throwing one of the wet rags at the monster's face while he tried to jump at her from the sink and she fled to the other side of the kitchen so that he couldn't reach her.
Okay, so, maybe having a partner like Kyaro wasn't so bad, after all.
