Megan gave a small nod when Maia told her she has met a Spirit User before. That was going to make the next part of her story easier to explain.
"Alright then. That's going to make this next part a bit easier to explain.
"You see the first digimon I met wasn't Kami. Instead it was a Spirit User stuck in digimon form. I want to say it was a Wormmon. I can't quite remember exactly though.
"Anyways this strange egg appeared out of nowhere, and here comes this talking bug. I wasn't quite sure what to think... Okay that wasn't true. I kind of saw the whole like an episode of Doctor Who or something like that. So I began thinking of things in line of that. Funnily enough, I think thinking like that actually kind of helped me catch on to things a bit quicker then I normally would.
"So I spoke to bug for a short while. It shortly she was new to whole thing as well. Her spirit actually helped explain what exactly digimon to the both of us. Now that I think about it. I don't think met any other Spirit User whose spirit was as conscious as hers.
"After our chat, we ended up going our separate ways. It was pretty late after all. I went home, I placed Kami's egg on the counter, and finally got some sleep. When I woke up, I remember thinking the whole thing was just a dream. Yet I heard some rustling in the kitchen, and when I went to investigate, instead of an egg as I was expecting, I found a little blue creature trying to find food.
"And that's basically that. It didn't take me long to find out that he was deaf. Then after a bit of a guessing game, I found out his name was Kami." Megan finished.
Megan then returned her full attention back to the girl and the fox. She wondered what their story would be like. "So do you have anything you wish for me to clarify, or are you ready to share your story." She signed in anticipation.

"Wow," the Kudamon finally spoke up, reading Megan's signs. "I think if Maia found me in the woods, she would've left me there!" Only think? The tamer didn't deny this comment, seeming to ignore the fox entirely. While now, yes, she was very attached to him, when he had first arrived at her home she didn't want to keep him! In fact, there had been a lot of quizzing him on how to send him back home! Unfortunately, it was met with a lot of 'this is my home' and similar answers.
Maia was trying to think about what kind of game the other tamer and her partner would have had to endure to figure out his name. That would have been a lot of work, wouldn't it? Especially with a name like Kami. If it was "shoe" or something, it would have probably been a lot easier. But, who knew what Megan had in her house that could work to figure out the name with ease? "I think it all makes sense." Luckily, the story didn't seem too complex! "Though, our story is a lot less interesting," she admitted, hesitantly. After all, the girl hadn't left her yard for the entire experience!
There was a pause, before she would start her own story, as something sank in. "Wait. Are you saying he came with his name? You didn't name him Kami?" Were Digimon supposed to have names?
Eyes turned to Kuu, who only shrugged and blurted, "I dunno. I know nothing!" To emphasize, the fox huffed and turned his head away. Of course, it was all in jest, and he wasn't actually distressed about anything. The tamer didn't want to have accidentally renamed him! But, he had just gone by whatever name his Fresh and In-Training forms were called before. It was getting confusing!

Kami scratched the back of his head. He guessed it was a bit unusual for him to already have a name before he hatched. Though there was a good reason for it. Perhaps it was time to share at least part of it.
"No. I already had a name from before Megan had found me. It's difficult for me to go into detail. Let's just say I get... Glimpses of my past life. Something that I've come to notice most digimon are unable to truthfully claim." Kami explained to the group.
This was honestly news to Megan. She always knew Kami was keeping something from her, but glimpses from his own past life. That wasn't what she had expected at all. She could only guess why Kami would keep something like that from her. Probably a question best saved for another time.

Reading the explanation, Kuu tilted his head from side to side. Did he remember anything from his past lives? When his tamer looked at him again, the fox's ears perked up, again shouting another, "I know nothing!" Well, if he actually did, he certainly wasn't feeling the need to share! Chances were, though, the digimon had absolutely no idea of what had happened prior to being brought into Maia's home. It was for the best to leave things that way. An ignorant fox was a blissful one!
"That makes sense, considering Digimon reincarnate," the girl signed, with a nod. After all, it seemed entirely plausible that they could remember bits and pieces of their prior lives. Unless, maybe, Kami wasn't even referring to that kind of prior life! Who knew? Were Digimon forced to always be stuck as Digimon? The concept of life and death puzzled the teen too much to think on it. Better to drop it, than get a headache.
Squirming on his tamer's shoulder, the Kudamon began pawing at Maia's arm. "Story time! Tell them how you met me, now! Don't leave out a single detail! I'll know if you lie! I was there!"
The girl gave her partner a confused look, questioning, "why would I lie about it?" Really, what was there to even consider lying about? Oh. Maybe about the guy across the street being there? No, Kuu would quickly call her out if Shiro wasn't mentioned. There was no point in trying to hide it. "I also don't want to interrupt anything," she signed. "Did either of you want to discuss Kami's past life more, first?" At least Maia didn't want to interrupt a potentially important conversation! her fox couldn't care less!

"Oh... Nonononono." Megan signed shaking her head, "We're perfectly fine. So go ahead and proceed with your story."
Kami stared at Megan as she signed that. He wasn't exactly sure what Megan was thinking right now. Could she feel a little betrayed to learn that Kami had kept some parts of his life a secret from her? Or perhaps she suspected all this time? Something told him he'll probably get his answer when they reach home later today.
For now though it's Maia's turn to tell her story.

Well, Megan seemed pretty certain that the conversation had ended. Adamantly so, in fact. Maia wasn't sure if this was how the woman usually acted, or if she was trying to avoid the subject. Either way, she didn't know Megan well enough to actually question it. "Okay. Again, it's definitely not as interesting as your story."
Kuu let out a, "yay!" before getting comfortable on his tamer's shoulder again. Story time!
"This wasn't really that long ago," she admitted, thinking about it. Actually, a few months had passed. How time flew by! "I went to get the mail one morning, and there was a package on the step. It didn't have a return address or anything, so I opened it. There was an egg inside." Well, that made plenty of sense. Except, at the time, it was just alarming! "My neighbor was leaving his house at the same time, and I thought he was pulling some sort of prank and came out to see my face with finding this weird egg." To this, Kuu was giggling. Ugh, that was actually pretty embarrassing! "Then, a weird white-cat monster popped out of his bag and started talking about Digimon! It was crazy. I invited them inside, and put the egg on the couch, while the guy next door explained as much as he could to me."
That had been a pretty poor explanation, to top it off. Especially since she had met a spirit user literally the next day, and had no idea they existed. Some subjects were easily forgotten, though. Like feeding habits and other things. "Then, the egg fell off the couch, cracked open, and a dust-bunny was inside. Kuu."
This seemed to be the end of the story, as Maia looked to her partner. "You forgot the part where I bit the ceiling fan," he stated, flatly. Stupid ceiling fan!
"That's because nobody needs to know about that. And, it didn't even happen until a few hours later." Who wanted to put in a little detail like that, anyway? Still, she turned to sign again, "so, yeah. Not as eventful."

That was definitely something. "You found your egg inside an unmarked package. I have to admit that that's the first time I've heard that one." Megan thought as she seemed to ponder on Maia story for a little bit, "I'm guessing you haven't figured out who put the package there as of yet."
This whole thing got Megan wondering about who is the one sending them all these eggs. It can't always be the digimon themselves that find the Tamer they are best suited too. Especially now that Megan knew that Maia had received her egg via package on her front door. Something that takes real intent to accomplish.
"So have you two been to the digital world yet then?" Kami then asked.

"Well, it wasn't entirely unmarked," Maia felt the need to add, my name was printed on the box. So, at least we know Kuu was supposed to be delivered to me? That was true. There was no questioning if the Digimon was actually supposed to be her's, she supposed. Then again, it may have been better if there was some questioning to it! The Kudamon was a handful! "I wish I knew who sent it. Or even dropped it off. They need to be talked to about delivering live animals to to unsuspecting people's houses." This last part was supposed to be a partial joke, but sometimes it was hard to distinguish. She'd have to hope that Megan didn't take it too seriously.
Reading Kami's question, Kuu shouted a, "I love the Digital World!"
Only to get a "shh! Indoor voice!" from his tamer. That wasn't really a good answer, anyway, so Maia clarified. "We've only been there a couple of times. I'd like to not get killed by giant spiders and ninja monsters before I'm even eighteen." That was still quite a few months away, too! Of course, the girl would really hope that statement wouldn't jinx anything.
"We had to go there for the spider, though! Otherwise, she'd have eaten that guy that threw rocks at me!" Kuu wasn't really helping the story.
Trying to draw the subject off of what Kuu was wanting to discuss, Maia began to sign again. "Do you two spend a lot of time in the Digital World?"

"I'd like to think you would like to not get killed by giant spiders and ninja monsters after your eighteen too." Kami commented smugly. Which earned him a unamused glare from Megan.
"Anyways. Kami and I unfortunately don't get to visit the digital world all that often. Between school and work, it's hard to find the time. Though when we do we try to make the most of it. If we aren't to beat that is." Megan then explained.
It was tough going tough going through med-school. It was tougher still to also work with a secret police organisation that helps protect the public from digimon. Megan honestly couldn't wait to take that fabled break she needed to fully reset herself.
Kami paused as something then crossed his mind. He looked at Kuu intently as if trying to size the fox up. Just what was Kami thinking about?

While Megan had glared at her Digimon for his comment, Maia only snickered. She found it in good humor, even if there was always a chance that he wasn't really being funny. Whatever. Laughter was the best way to make light of a potentially stressful situation, after all!
"I have a hard time making time for it, too," the girl admitted. But, she wasn't too down about it. In fact, she much preferred the peace and safety of not being able to visit the world full of dangerous monsters. Though, one really had to question if it was all that safe in the human world, either, considering she had experienced lone Digimon roaming the forest, and even the school. At least one of them seemed pretty harmless.
While his tamer didn't seem to notice Kami's attention, Kuu certainly did. After staring at the other 'mon for a few moments, he began looking at Maia's shoulder. "What?" Now, he was scrambling his paws over his belly, and trying to look over his shoulders, "Is something on me? What is it? Get it off of--" And, he was down! Dramatically, the fox fell off of his tamer, hitting the store's floor with a thump and then a clank of his cartridge. "Oof!" Nobody needed to worry! He was fine!

Kami just facepalmed as Kuu plummeted to the ground. That more or less showed the turtle all he needed to know.
"Kuu? Are you alright?" Megan asked out loud, slightly worried after seeing the fox-like digimon take such a fall.
Her attention then shifted to Kami as it seemed he was somehow related to Kuu's display. "What did you do?" Megan asked pointedly.
"Nothing." Kami responded, "Just after hearing how they fought some spider digimon a while back. I was curious about how strong Kuu truly was. So I was trying to see if I couldn't size him up. He's the one that completely freaked out about it."
"So you were staring at him then?
"Maybe?"
Megan sighed. If it wasn't one thing, it was another. She really should just count her blessings that there wasn't a digimon attacking the mall or something like that going on right now. There always seemed to be some digital world weirdness going on when she meets a new tamer. Though she probably just ended up jinxing herself for thinking that.

"I'm fine!" Kuu assured, as he rolled around on the floor briefly. After a moment, the little fox had up-righted himself, and hopped onto his tamer's shoe. "Falling is fun!" Well, that explained that. It wasn't the first time that the Kudamon had dropped off of his tamer, and surely wouldn't be his last! Though, the fact that he had hit a hard floor, rather than carpet or dirt, had slightly concerned his tamer.
Maia reached down, scooping the fox up and began to brush dust off of his fur. "You're going to get hurt doing that someday," she warned, before placing him back on her shoulder. Looking to Kami and Megan, she signed, "don't worry about it. He probably would have done something dumb without any help." There was no denying that.
Now he was on his appropriate perch, the rookie tilted his head side to side, "it was an Arachnemon!" Kuu chirped, seeming overly pleased about this. "I never digivolved to fight it, either." To this, his eyes turned to Maia in an almost irritated fashion. "Would've been easier if someone didn't want to go home from the start!"
"It's not our job to fight Ultimate level Digimon." Or any level Digimon, for that matter! Not to mention, Kuu definitely couldn't match level with the monster! Maybe, attempting Champion could have helped, but they seemed to have handled it alright until the proper help came along. "War killed it, anyway. We did fine."
Puffing his cheeks, the fox looked away, "you should be proud, Maia. Not just any rookie can help push one of those back to the Digital World." Well, someone sounded full of themselves!

"Wait a second." Kami chimed in, "Are you seriously telling me he actually fought a Ultimate level digimon as a rookie?"
Kami couldn't believed what they were saying. There was no way Kuu could of fought an Arachnemon and won. Not be himself at any rate. What did they mean that 'War killed it' anyways? There was no war going on in the digital world as far as he was aware. He wouldn't allow Megan anywhere near that world otherwise.
It turned out Megan had a very similar question as she then signed, "What do you mean that War killed it? I don't believe you mean an actually war, do you?"

It probably would have been easier to believe if there were more witnesses for it. It wasn't like Kuu had been particularly amazing. Judging from the reaction, Maia was starting to realize why the Kudamon wouldn't let anyone forget that he had fought an Ultimate and survived. It was actually a pretty big feat, wasn't it? "He couldn't access Champion then, so we didn't have much choice," she explained. It had only been a day or two after he hit Rookie! How was she supposed to know if he could Digivolve that quickly? People didn't tell her how long to wait before trying to figure out how to make him evolve more! It was more of a when-needed basis, and when a seemingly stronger Digimon starts to try to negotiate to stop the fighting, she certainly didn't feel like they were on the losing end of things.
"We had to protect Gelatin!" Kuu tilted his head, trying to think of a summary for the event. "He didn't know how to turn into a Digimon yet!"
"Gallatin, Kuu. It's a name, not a food." The Digimon scoffed at his tamer's correction, but was busy thinking still. By this time, a question on war came up. Oops. Also not an actual term, but a name! "War is the nickname for a," the girl hesitated, realizing there wasn't really a sign for this one.
"Okay," she spoke aloud, "I don't know how to sign WarGreymon. How do you two even do Digimon names?"
This was a grand question! She had thought of signing 'war,' 'grey,' and either fingerspelling 'm-o-n' or signing 'monster', but it could easily get lost in the translation! "Anyway," she signed again, "it's a mega level that belongs to another tamer. We were lucky enough to get the spider through a portal back to the Digital World. Turns out, the other tamer was there and saw the problem," she explained, "otherwise, we'd probably be much worse for wear." Or, dead, really. But, Maia didn't want to say that!

Megan looked over at Kami's direction as she thought about how to best explain what they do for digimon names. It wasn't exactly a complicated process. It was just one that they kind of made up as they go along
"As digimon technically don't have signs for themselves. At least none that we know of. So we essentially made the signs up as we go along." Kami started.
"Yeah. We usually find something unique about that digimon and accentuate that part about them. Kind of like one does for a name sign."
"For example. We usually sign W-a-r-G-r-e-y-m-o-n like..." Kami then signed something that resembled the sign for war as his hand went around the helmet on his head, then when his hand reached around where his nose was, he moved his hands straight in front of his face, before finally his hands went straight up to the point it reached over his head. The whole movement kind of resembled that of the helmets the Greymon family of digimon wears. "Probably not the best sign we could of decided on. Yet it seems to work."
Megan nodded in agreement. "Anyways. It's good to hear that you two made it out of that situation alright. I should really speak to HQ about DATS needing to be more on top of this situations. I don't want to think what would have happened if that Arachnemon was able to run free." She signed using the same sign for Arachnemon she used earlier when interpreting for Kami.
