There was a sense of unease in the air.
Sure, most of Dragon Valley itself wasn’t affected by the phenomenon, but that didn’t mean that the pillar of light hadn’t attracted outsiders. There were murmurs among a few of the dragon tribes, mostly baseless rumors spawned out of fear, or made from the imagination of the younger whelps. Among these, however, there was one constant that kept coming up:
Accounts of a phantom, or a ‘shadow’, seen among the cliffs or hiding somewhere in the valleys. The stories weren’t exactly consistent, but the closer the tribes were to the estimated location of the ‘pillar of light’, the more vivid the retellings became. Now, there was still a chance that this was nothing more than a wildly spreading rumor, but there was likely a sense of truth to it.
If the phantom existed, it would be a threat to the investigative efforts of the area. And even if it didn’t, proving that it was fake would likely help to alleviate the fears of the nearby tribes, and make investigating the source all that much safer.
”And for a ghost hunt, they sent someone who fights with magic and tricks to lead the search party…”
At the designated coordinates for the search team to meet up, a Witchmon sat on her broom, pulling the brim of her hat forward to keep the sun out of her eyes. Right, she had to keep everything straight in her head for now, so she could explain the details to the group when they got there.
But, it was hard to shake the thought that this might be a wild goose chase. Though if it wasn’t, maybe catching this ‘phantom’ would help to explain just what was going on with these lights! Ettie and Anne Omen, Chaddest of Chads ricochet3-Kazumi&Vemmon @airi

The pillar of light seemed to match something Omen had been told about by her mother regarding a whole lot of...what she called nothing. It seemed like something yet it was the exact opposite in all regards.
A second instance of this phenomena was worth investigating at the very least, even if she was probably not the best equipped for the job. There had been accounts of a phantom in the shadows of the cliffs, a looming specter.
...Wasn't that -her- job? No, that was just for the forests. Either way, she had some coordinates to follow, and follow them she would. The Wispmon would arrive to find herself the first to arrive outside of...
No, that's not WinterBitchmon! That's just a regular Witchmon. Why...did that make her uncomfortable, though? As if there was some sort of...knee-jerk reaction from the past? "I mean, they did send a ghost your way for the ghost hunt. Does that make you feel better, Miss Witchmon?" Omen would ask, a tilt of the head. "Also, hi, I'm Omen! It's nice to meet you! I assume details about this whole ghost thing are forthcoming for when everyone's here, yes?"
...It was going to be really annoying repeating this to everyone when they arrived, wasn't it? Introductions at least...

Kazumi headed for the valley with her partners. Vemmon and Dorulumon were walking on either side with Hudiemon and Yuki flying just overhead. After the group's last adventure to these parts they were certainly more wary. After all they wanted to avoid being caught in another ambush and Kazumi, especially, didn't want to end up dangling off a cliff face again ever.
Kazumi looked up to Hudiemon and Yuki and said "You would think this pillar of light would be easy to spot from the air. Are you two sure you heard those rumors right?"
The BlackAeroAgumon called Yuki was with Hudiemon when they heard of the rumor regarding a pillar of light and some kind of Phantom in the general area. "After five previous lives I normally would take such rumors with a grain of salt but they seem to have spread outside the valley so I think it requires at least a look." Yuki said with a calm voice as she and Hudiemon caught sight of two digimon below.
"It seems we aren't the only ones interested in these rumors. This could be interesting after all." Hudiemon said with a giddy smile.
Kazumi waved to the two flying digimon which was a silent signal to land and Hudiemon and Yuki did so softly stirring up the sand beneath them. Approaching the strangers cautiously, Kazumi said to the Witchmon and Wispmon "Hello there. Are you two here to investigate the pillar of light and the phantom rumors? My partners and I have come here to do so. I am Kazumi." She then turned to the four digimon with her and continued "And these are my partners Vemmon, Dorulumon, Hudiemon, and Yuki."

Post by Ettie and Anne on May 13, 2021 23:32:24 GMT
In all technicality, Ettie and her pack hadn't come here regarding the phantom, nor the beam of light that had risen from the Valley of Dragons. Given Ettie's and Anne's nomadic natures, they were simply wandering through the Digital World as they always did - looking around for the next exciting adventure to go on, and seeing parts of the world that they had never been to before. And as a pack, everyone would follow with - either enjoying the adventures, or the explorations, or even simply the occasional friendly spars amongst themselves or the locals that they would get into.
However, amidst the group's wanderings, something - initially - had Ettie and Anne both on the alert. A scent - a familiar scent, but it had been too faint to properly identify at first. Nobody amongst the rest of the back recognized this scent, and so they weren't entirely sure who or what to expect as the two twins began trying to track down this mystery digimon; following the winding path that it took through the rocky crags and ravines. It was only after a good ten or fifteen minutes into this trek, that Ettie would suddenly perk up - her nose sniffing the air eagerly.
"... I smell her! She's somewhere around here!" The albinistic Strabimon barked!
At this, Barbara would tilt her head a little - questioning "Who?"
"Omen!" Ettie clarified, even though only Anne would likely recognize her name. "Omen's been through here!"
"Who's Omen?" Aurien questioned, an endeared smile across his face at Ettie's excitement. "Is she a hero, like us?"
"Omen's a Wispmon." Anne explained a bit more helpfully with a gentle nod, picking up the pace to avoid losing track of Ettie - who had darted off, in the direction of the scent. "A friend we made, some time ago."
"She's sort of an honorary packmate, so I wanna introduce her to all of you!" Ettie would call back with excitement, as her steps took on long and eager bounds. The scent was getting stronger - Omen couldn't have been through here too long ago!
The residual excitement coming off of their more-or-less-leader was more than enough to get Duchess and Sirius both excited, though; the latter yipping "Let's go, then; let's go!" as the both of them darted off after Ettie, more than happy to meet this friend of her's.
"Whelp," Ruffian would sigh, scratching the back of his head. "Off they go."
"Mm... Don't really wanna run in the hot sun, but..." Princess would begin to grouse a little, before trailing off with a yawn. But despite this grousing, she nonetheless would begin to jog after the hyperactive pups.
With this, the rest of the pack would be forced to pick up the pace as well to avoid being left in the dust - the residual excitement from the more outgoing pack members gradually rubbing off on even the more quiet and lax packmates. Omen seemed to be a special friend to Ettie and Anne both - so a good number of the pups present were more than happy to meet this Wispmon as well!
Thus, it would be in all of this excitement that would lead to an utter stampede of pups coming on down the path - pups that Witchmon likely didn't even sign up for, but were arriving nonetheless. And at the front of this pack was an excited Ettie, her tail wagging wildly as her eyes locked upon the familiar Wispmon. "Omen, Omen, Omen!!!" She'd call happily, bowling right past Kazumi's group so that she could pounce atop Omen like a hyperactive dog might - her tail wagging wildly, as she insistently nuzzled the Wispmon. "Omeeeen, you're here! I'm happy to see you! Look, look - Anne's here too, and we all have a proper pack now!"
As Ettie excitedly rambled to Omen, Anne would be panting softly as she - and most of the pack, excluding Duchess and Sirius going to Ettie's side - began to slow down, upon nearing the gathering group. The warm sun and lack of water in the area didn't mix well with her dark black fur, but she otherwise would survive - the pack did well in keeping a healthy stock of supplies for traveling, after all.
Instead though, the ebony Strabimon would glance between the other strangers here - quiet initially, before murmuring "... Sorry. She's very excited." as she nodded in Ettie's direction, to indicate who 'she' was.
Meanwhile though, Duchess and Sirius both would be investigating Omen curiously, tails wagging as they sniffed at the Wispmon. "This is Omen?" Duchess asked, tilting her head.
"Yep, yep!" Ettie confirmed, sitting back so that Omen could get up. "She's a friend!"
"Friends are good!" Sirius yipped, his tail wagging eagerly.
Ettie laughed at this, before smiling down to Omen, mentioning "These are two of my packmates - Duchess and Sirius! And over there is the rest of our pack, too!"
"It's nice to meet you!" Duchess barked, play-bowing before Omen as she asked "Do you wanna play?"
Excited pups getting to know Omen aside though, Anne would soon notice that there was a group gathering here - as well as her overhearing talks of... A pillar of light, and a phantom? One of her ears would twitch as she glanced towards the Witchmon - and questioned "What's going on, here...?"
"Something about phantoms and lights..?" Adhara mused, tilting his head curiously.
Alexander would briefly huff, eyes of blue flame peering at the surrounding group, before they stated simply "... If there's phantoms, this may be my area of expertise." The undead couldn't hide from them for long, let alone death in general. The only question now, would be the details.

"Th-this is so stupid..." Airi muttered, in the front seat of her transportation, a particularly short school bus with a cat-hooded nun at the driver's seat. In the very back seats were a pair of Sistermon, Ciel and Blanc. Azura, the Sistermon Ciel was leaning back while asleep. Next to her the Sistermon Blanc, Ivori, held a black sharpie marker in her hands, staring at it intently. Ultimately, she seemed to think whatever it was she had planned was far too mean, and put the sharpie away. Perched next to the sisters was a small robotic bird Digimon, a Mailbirdramon the size of a hawk. It examined its surroundings like any other birb, but it was clear that he wasn't comfortable being stuck inside of a vehicle instead of being free in the air.
Though no intelligent being would possibly feel comfortable being inside a vehicle with Sable behind the wheel. Maybe it was that dragon Digimon that Sable insisted that she "just grazed" with the bus, or the number of times she would fail to pay attention to anything in front of her. And yet, they seemed to always make it to their next destination in one piece. Was it the chrome digizoid plating around the bus's surface? Most likely. And it would be obvious to see by the number of scratches along the front and sides of the bus that this plating was well-used.
"What was that, dear child?" Sable asked, turning around to face the little girl in the back seat.
"Hey, turn around, dammit!" Airi barked. Thankfully, the Sistermon Noir complied as Airi let out a sigh of relief. "There's no such thing as ghosts, so why are we trying to go looking for one?"
"Perhaps. But if a bunch of hillbilly dragons think that their land is haunted, would it not be an act of kindness to put their fears to rest?" Sable asked, and Airi could only imagine the smug grin on her face. "If there's a dangerous phantom on the loose, we can get rid of it, and we'll have the locals showering us with rewards and praise!"
"But there's no such thing as..." Airi narrowed her eyes and shook her head. "You don't believe in this thing, either! You're just planning on trudging around this valley all day before telling the locals that you took care of the issue!" Sable didn't answer her, but Airi didn't think she needed to. "But what if they ask for some kind of proof, or send someone out to guide us?"
"If that happens, I'm sure we can think of a creative solution," Sable answered. "And if there's someone else involved, I'm sure they can be coerced one way or another!"
"That's... I don't think I wanna know what you wanna do there..." Airi muttered. Well, not like things would go as Sable planned, anyways. Plus the little girl knew that Sable wouldn't be able to do anything too out of hand, anyways. Not with Azura and Ivori hanging around, at least.
But whatever Sable had planned, none of it seemed to matter very much as they arrived at their destination. Because neither one of them expected their meetup point to be so... crowded. There was a Witchmon, a Digimon who Airi recalled threatening to kill their bus once, and a whole bunch of doggos. Their bus came skidding to a halt as they approached the crowd, coming dangerously close to crashing into half the group if no one had the good sense to move out of the way. It was time to get out now, and the writer of these characters figured it would be a good idea to list out who was all there one-by-one, if only to make things more convenient. First was Airi. The little girl hopped out of the bus, putting on her "people-face" as she called it, all wide-eyed and a big smile to boot. "Oh wowie!" She exclaimed in a cheery tone and cutesy voice. "Look at all of these cute Digimon! I can't believe there are so many people here!" After that there was the Sistermon Noir driving the bus. She looked around, hid her own annoyance behind her own bright smile and proclaimed, "This must truly be a blessing to encounter so... very many people on a day like this!" After that, the Sistermon Ciel stepped out, patting her twin sister, Sable, on the shoulder. Her right arm had been replaced by a shoddy-looking replacement arm, and attached to the prosthetic was a BladeKuwagamon that was either asleep or very, very shy. "Don't sound so happy, sis! I bet you're plannin' on taking it easy and letting everyone else pick up the slack, aren't ya?" Sable shot her sister a brief look of annoyance, but otherwise her smile didn't falter. Then came the Sistermon Blanc. She looked over to Sable and Azura, smiled warmly, then turned to the rest. "Umm... Hello! We'll try our best to help, but I hope we can do our best to make things easier for everyone!" She'd bow politely and otherwise shift around nervously until things started proper. And finally there was the tiny MailBirdramon who took the chance to take to the air and circle the air above. BLU-J wasn't much of a talker, sadly. Like, at all. Oh, there was also a Commandramon and Tankmon inside Airi's Xros Loader, but this post is getting to about a 1000 words now, and they have the personalities of someone who watches paint dry on walls, so why bother? Anyways, the group would make their introductions later, if given the time. Otherwise, it's just assumed they did it if RegularWitchmon wanted to move things along right away.

Honestly, the 'there's no such thing as ghosts' objection from the second Xros Team probably fell right on its face when a literal ghost was in their midst, but that was neither here nor there. At the very least, the Witchmon was happy to have a few Digimon that would have a decent idea of how a specter would act. Whether it was the Wispmon or the undead type from Ettie's Xros Team, Alexander, the sorceress could at least rely on them for a bit of assistance in the matter.
"Well, to be honest, I wasn't expecting this many bodies to show up... not that I'm complaining for what we're asking." The Witchmon sat herself on her broom, floating up a bit so that she could address the group as a whole. "I'll make it short: the dragons in the area are nervous about some sort of apparition in the area, and its our job to make sure that we're on the look-out for it. And I'll be perfectly honest: even if we don't find anything, and even if that doesn't satisfy the dragons, that really doesn't matter."
It didn't? "So long as we look busy until the end of the other group's expedition to look into that odd data signal, that 'light pillar', we'll have done our job. That said, I'm not of the mind that the dragons are merely seeing things. In fact, its more-or-less common knowledge that ghosts do exist in the Valley of Dragons."
So, they had at least some sense of direction! The Witchmon pointed over her shoulder: "A little bit to our north is a stretch of land called the 'Red Sands'. Among it are the remains of an old Dramon tribe, full of Skullgreymon skeletons. During the day, these skeletons are inactive, but they wake up and traverse during the night, attacking anything in their territory. Now, if you ask me, that sounds a lot like situational possession..."
"... So if the dragons are seeing something, then its probably a ghost type outside of its sleep schedule. If nothing else, its a good place to start. So, any questions?"

Was she here to investigate the pillar of light? "No, that's for people who aren't me to deal with, and ergo, not my problem compared to the phantom." Omen stated, a candid smile upon her face.
It was nice to let loose verbally. "This, however is. For I am an authority on ghosts simply by being a ghost." This was the final thing Omen said, before promptly being trampled by Ettie. Like, goddamn, if this were Wii sports, that'd have been a strike.
"Ah!" The familiarity of the voice indicated that the individual who had pounced upon her was, in fact, Ettie. That was a relief, it was nice to see she was doing well after that day in February. When allowed, she would rise up and immediately note that Ettie and Anne had...
...Severely expanded their numbers by now. By like, a lot. Wow. "...Big pack." Omen stated, with a sagely nod. With eyes widening as she realized that the pack was NOT here for the mission.
This was easily fixed. "Yes, there's rumors of a phantom around here around the same time as a pillar of light that is, once again, not my problem. Witchmon and everyone here could use the help so I signed up."
AND THEN.
A fucking bus showed up. The same bus Omen threatened with actual murder for running over Mocha once upon a time, before a sleepover. Which meant...Oh, it was that nun and Miss Airi. "Hello again, Miss Hirano, Mother Sable, Sistermons! I'm recruiting you to go ghostbusting with me."
This sounded like a weird sort of order. But either way, it was here that Witchmon's explanation would come into play for the Wispmon. "So, I think the big question we're looking for here is 'is this ghost different from the usual spooky that the Valley of Dragons experiences.' That said, the SkullGreymon grounds...yes, that does sound situational. How...alert are they at night? Like...could they be hidden from?"
...
It was like she was making excuses not to use that form. She knew what SkullGreymon were...

Before anyone in Kazumi's group could react excited chatter was heard before a swarm of puppy digimon had swarmed over Omen. Kazumi stumbled backwards as the pups charged past nearly hitting her. Fortunately Vemmon moved behind her and caught her before she completely fell over. Yuki had then stepped over and helped Vemmon push Kazumi to her feet.
Suddenly the sound of a vehicle was heard and a bus came into view. Fortunately Dorulumon leapt forth and pulled Kazumi and Vemmon away from the wildly moving vehicle while Yuki and Hudiemon took flight. Everyone safe, Hudiemon looked down at the pups and said "Aww, such cuties!"
Kazumi looked at the large group and realized their were definitely a lot of helping hands to deal with whatever was needed. After Witchmon explained the situation at hand the Wispmon known as Omen mentioned being an authority on ghosts.
"If it isn't possesion then maybe these SkullGreymon are nocturnal by nature. Either way we should be careful in how we approach a threat that can normally be at the ultimate level." Yuki said as she softly flapped her wings.
After thinking for a bit, Kazumi said "Maybe we can also make use of all the canine digimon we have here since dogs are known to have an excellent sense of smell. If they pick anything up maybe we can potentially track down this phantom when we get there."

As Omen commented upon 'big pack', Ettie would giggle and nod. "Yeah! We've got a real pack going, now - me and Anne have been really happy to make so many friends!" She'd confirm with a wag of her tail - bouncing happily in place. Maybe she should do introductions later, not only for Omen, but for everyone here as well?
"It's really different, but it's also really fun, being in such a big group." Sirius chuckled, his tail wagging. "I was so used to it being me and my brother over there - Adhara - before!" Briefly, the Plotmon-X would gesture to Adhara - who quietly nodded to Omen in greeting.
With the given context that the little Wispmon provided though, Anne nodded in understanding. "We'll be more than happy to help a friend, then." She'd state simply, casting a subtle yet warm smile down at Omen. For as much as she didn't care for the other strangers here - as Anne tended to - she still had a sense of loyalty towards friends, even those who were technically outside the pack, (though she admittedly was a bit in agreement with Ettie over regarding Omen as a bit of an 'honorary packmate.')
Before any interactions could go any further though, there was a bus coming in - a bus that... Didn't appear to be slowing down in any particular hurry, despite the fact that it was headed right towards everyone! Of course, the pack had no trouble in moving out of the way of the bus to avoid the collision...
... Except for Princess, that was, who only gave the bus a sleepy look as it closed in. "Maybe we should move, Princess..?" Duchess questioned with a hue of concern, although the Offmon would hum briefly - getting up from where she had seated herself - and turning to face the bus. "... Nah."
Princess would - initially - stare down the skidding vehicle without all that much worry or concern for her own well being; but as it neared, she would lift her hands - proceeding to catch the vehicle by pressing her hands against the front of it as it came in, to bring it to a halt in a display of her abnormal physical strength! And as Sable came out of the vehicle, the Offmon would briefly yawn, before muttering to her - as if the sleepy canine hadn't just done anything out of the ordinary - "... Be more careful."
And with that, Princess would shuffle off - not seeming to be paying any attention to Sable anymore, assuming that the Sistermon Noir did give the Offmon any sort of response. Instead, she'd simply group back up with the rest of her pack - nodding idly to the other members of Airi's army, as they greeted everyone.
With everyone present now though, Witchmon took this time to give a debriefing to everyone present - explaining a situation as a whole. Ghosts, skullgreymons, there appeared to be a lot to be careful of - but the group nonetheless listened closely. (Or, at least, as closely as some of the less focused characters could!) It sounded like there was a lot going on though, outside of this immediate group's task. What had happened, that had made these light pillars such a big deal, Ettie wondered?
Well, either way, Kazumi would make the suggestion of having all of the present canine digimon help out in tracking - to which Aurien smiled brightly. "I mean, we can't sell ourselves short - any pair of eyes should help plenty, to help find this phantom!" He'd declare happily - adding "A bunch of heroes such as ourselves will succeed in no time, I'm sure!" Of course, the eager Gomamon seemed to be referring to not only the pack, but everyone here as a whole, as fellow heroes.
Smoke would billow from Alexander's nostrils as they exhaled, meanwhile, turning their nose up in a rather smug fashion. "Of course I can track the phantom, if it truly exists. I can smell the death that exists in and on all things." They'd state - eyes gazing between the different digimon present. "I can even tell that there are those of you who are familiar with causing death." They'd remark dryly, as their eyes settled on certain digimon - Omen, Sable, and even towards Airi's loader. Anyone who has killed another before, Alexander could smell it on them, and the Grimon's gaze would fall upon them.
Anne would be one of the few packmembers who'd catch Alexander's gaze towards Omen though - prompting the Strabimon to glance towards her quietly, although unjudging. Ettie might've been disconcerted with the concept of death, but Anne saw no issue in killing to protect yourself or otherwise survive; and neither of them, for certain, would hold it against Omen.
Still, it was a surprise to hear that the Wispmon might've been among those who have taken a life before...
But nonetheless, Ettie would perk up, and gesture to a certain Kobomon - who had been abnormally quiet this whole time. "And I bet Scarlet here will help bunches, in finding this phantom, too! She's a ghost!"
Whether or not Scarlet would actually be able to help in finding the phantom, the Kobomon would nonetheless grin too-widely, too-toothily, and too-blankly at the others, her eyes casting about everyone, before settling upon Omen, as she proceeded to offer the Wispmon her daggers!
This seemed to get Ettie's attention though, the Strabimon nervously perking up - "Uhm-" - before she'd gently nudge the daggers away, adding "Let's, uh, not give anyone your daggers until we actually start fighting, okay Scarlet?"
"Such an eager little ghost, though." Barbara would muse with a chuckle, nuzzling the Kobomon. "Best not take them, though, unless anyone wants to become a battle-happy maniac." Scarlet would likely end up causing chaos, if anyone accepted those daggers too early.
However, there was still the question of - well - questions; to which Ruffian would cross his arms, glancing up at the Witchmon. "So, are there any other sorts of danger we might find up there in these 'Red Sands'? Or is it just a buncha lazy bones we gotta worry about?" If it was just a bunch of Skullgreymon up there, then they could just hide away when night fell - easy peasy! Maybe even Princess could pull her usual tricks with her wormhole bullshit.
Adhara, too, would speak up - glancing to the others around him and asking "What sort of fancy stuff are all of you able to do, by the way?" with a curious hue. Surely, there was more that the gathered group had to offer, than canid senses! "I can produce light, when it gets dark - although it's probably not very helpful, when it's the middle of the day... I'm also able to heal others, in a fight, and am good against most unholy type digimon."
"I can bend metal!" Sirius barked, reshaping his collar into a chakram - and then right back - as if to prove his point. "I'm also really lucky! Or maybe sometimes unlucky! It kind of goes both ways for me!" He'd add with a laugh, tail wagging.
"I can go really fast - although Duchess is even faster than me!" Ettie chuckled, wrapping her arms around the happy Gazimon in question. "Duchess can even tell when there's storms approaching and stuff!"
"Yep yep!" Duchess confirmed. "I'm really good with electricity!"
"I can shape things out of crystals, and am good at protecting others" Anne stated simply, adding "Me and Ettie can also talk to feral digimon."
"I'm best in a one-on-one." Ruffian stated, somewhat boastfully "Point out an enemy, let me at em, and I can usually take care of them all by myself!"
"I deal with water and ice, meanwhile!" Aurien stated. "A hero like myself will be sure to try and keep as many digimon safe as I can - and nothing will scare me! ... Except for when Princess gets angry and Ruffian and throws him around, that is."
"HEY!" Ruffian barked, glancing over at Aurien. "I thought I told you you saw nothing!"
As Aurien laughed and ran off from an irate Ruffian though, Alexander would speak up next. "... As a disciple of Anubismon, I excel in hunting down undead digimon of any kind, as I'm sure I've already made quite clear." They stated simply. "As my Guardian, Barbara uses her flames and massive size to protect me from the properly living digimon, where need be. She also has an extremely dulled sense of pain."
Barbara nodded briefly in confirmation.
"Wormholes." Princess stated simply. "And I'm strong, I suppose."
"And Scarlet here's really quiet.." Ettie began, gesturing to the Kobomon in question "... But she can give someone her daggers, and in doing so, back them up during combat! Though she tends to uh... Make people really excited whenever she does this, because she gets really excited about fighting, too - and people can feel what she's feeling, while they're wielding her."
"We admit that we're still a bit new to xrossing, though." Anne stated. "We'll be relying more on our numbers, than on raw power, to help out here. You can assume that our xrosses can do a little bit of everything that the components can do, though, with one of us having the 'lead' in a given xros."
That was a lot of dogs. But at least it helped to make sure that everyone was on the same page, as far as the pups' capabilities went! What would everyone else have to add, to this massive mixing pot?

Well...
... That was honestly a lot of voices to process at once! With Omen and Ettie, there were no less than two excitable ghosts, and those weren't even the only two with relation to undead Digimon. Of course, there were questions and theories abound - though to start, the Witchmon couldn't help but chuckle at Alexander's comment about smelling death. Even the sorceress herself had the 'stench' on her. "Hun, you're in dragon territory. Everyone and their mother's going to have that smell on 'em."
That aside, after a good-ol' session of taking stock of their abilities, the Witchmon was left with a few questions. How alert were the monsters? Was it a matter of possession or not? To that end, the witch pointed her thumb over her shoulder. "Honestly, its faster if I show you what I'm talking about. Follow along, you lot!" It would only be about ten minutes, at their pace, before the group would reach the red sands. Reaching the end of a steep cliff, they would find themselves looking on over a long stretch of scorched, reddish earth... but if anyone was looking at the color of the ground, they'd be missing the forest for the trees.
Skullgreymon. Strewn about the area, there were literally dozens of these husks visible, their haunting presence making the entire place feel like a cursed boneyard, their scorched white bone baking in the arid, desert sun. Some were in more pristine condition than others, as bones were cracked and some were missing tails, but they were all hollowed out.
No organic missile, and no fleshy, cursed heart. Their eyes were also blacked out, not containing their normal ghastly green color. Honestly, it was unlikely that there was another place like this in the digital world. Deceased Digimon, after all, did not ordinarily leave behind such a trace.
"As cursed as this place looks," the Witchmon floated down on her broom, and stood right on top of one of the skeletons, "these are just husks. Not nocturnal, harmless unless someone is piloting them..."
The Witchmon would aim a palm towards the head, and fire off a pressurized stream of water - only for not even a mark of that attack to be left behind.
"... And they're nigh-impossible to damage like this. We don't know why these are all here, but its phantom territory. And if a rogue one exists, I think this sort of thing's too good of a 'bait' to ignore."

So, they really got an entire pack going? That was...interesting. It was comparable in numbers to the other xros army here. Which meant there were several people to work with. "Thank you." Omen spoke towards Ettie and Anne as the latter decided to pitch the pack in to help them. "It is nice to meet everyone." A pause then commenced as rumination upon the skeletons was had.
"It is...best to recall that not all Digimon are the same. While one may be nocturnal, the rest may be something else." Omen noted, calmly. Well, eerily calm for those who knew her. She glanced to Scarlet as she was offered daggers, before she shook her head. "I'd only be able to use one, and I would not want to cripple you in the field."
There was a notably perturbed expression on the Wispmon's face as Alexander locked eyes with her when he mentioned that he was able to smell death on those who have dealt it.
...
Omen had never killed anyone, though. At least, not that...she could remember...
Except...She was the Digimon who could remember everything she ever did. Everything that ever happened to her...
.......
No, she had to focus. The Wispmon shook her head vigorously. The explanation of the Pack's capabilities did ring true to her, though. And finally told her what the real purpose of Scarlet's daggers were. Neat. "I'm mostly able to remember everything I've been subjected to--this includes moves at levels I can access if I'm prudent enough. In essence, I'm like a mime."
A quick explanation as to her own capabilities before they set off towards a boneyard in a ten minute walk. Omen peered around at the SkullGreymon--all vacant and...lifeless. "So, ideally, we would want to prevent a phantom from getting into these. So, should we set up a perimeter or search around?"

Vemmon, who was standing next to Kazumi, felt out of place in such a mission. Sure he could fight but, other than that, he didn't have much in the way of talents that didn't involve computer hacking or playing video games. Tracking was far from his specialty and he didn't really wanna be made fun of for that but he took a deep breath and, in his soft spoken voice, said "I'm f-feeling outta place with so many digimon skilled with tracking in one form or another. M-My most useful talent is computer hacking but I doubt that will be much help in this hunt."
"Oh Vemmon." Hudiemon said as she was fluttering around before she continued "You shouldn't sell yourself short. You are brave and level headed even when things are rough. That and you are clever enough to improvise on the spot. Compares to me who is just getting used to being a scout as well as a healer since I have trouble sometimes focusing. That's why I look up to everyone in our group."
When Alexander mentioned he could smell death on those who have dealt it, Yuki said "As a warrior who has lived four previous lives I have killed before but it has been only a handful of times in hundreds of years. The last kill I made was to defend some innocent travelers twenty years ago so I'm not sure the scent would be on me anymore since it has been so long. If it was I'm sure Dorulumon may have said something in private."
Ten minutes later the large group had made it to their destination and were staring at the SkullGreymon skeletons sticking out of the red sands. If their was a phantom out there they had to catch it in the act. Hearing Omen's question Kazumi looked at the Wispmon and said "Maybe we can split into teams and form a perimeter so we can have a chance of slowing the Phantom down if it shows up until everyone gets back together to assist. I have access to three potential options for X2 xrosses that can fly and if I use two of them we have a chance of spotting our target from the air."
"I'm r-ready when you are, Kazumi." Vemmon stated looking ready for the job at hand.
Knowing which two forms she needed Kazumi brought out her Xros Loader and said "Vemmon! BlackAeroAgumon! Digi Xros!"
Vemmon and Yuki began glowing before coming together revealing what looked like Vemmon with Yuki's wings and arm weapons. "V-Vemmon X2e!"
"Hudiemon! Dorulumon! Digi Xros!"
Then the same process occurred for both Hudiemon and Dorulumon and soon what looked like Hudiemon appeared carrying a white lance with a yellow drill. "Hudiemon X2!"

So Omen could remember moves? "That's really cool!" Ettie would comment, with a bright smile and a wag of her tail - suggesting "Maybe we could show you some of our moves? So you can learn them, too?" ... It seemed that Ettie missed the 'subjected' part of what Omen said.
Which, Anne was sure to remind her. "That'd... Require targeting her with them." She'd state. "Including the attacks."
"Oh!" Ettie blinked in surprise, starting to think deeply, before humming. "... Maybe we can show you all the protective buffy stuff instead, then? Would that work?" She'd glance over to Omen. "We could probably do a them as we move, right?"
"Yeah yeah yeah!" Duchess chirped in excitement, her tail swishing. How many moves could they teach Omen like that, she wondered? Anne had her shield move, Aurien had a shield and a debuff heal, Scarlet was... Well... Scarlet. (Could Omen learn to possess people? Duchess almost wasn't sure if she wanted to know.) And Adhara had a heal move, too! ...
... Duchess was starting to realize that they had a lot of A-names in their pack.
But nonetheless, Kazumi's army would share their respective talents as well - a one of which seemed to get Adhara's attention - namely Vemmon's. "... We're all made up of data. Could you hack one of the skeletons, if trouble arose?" He'd question, primarily for clarification. "Or is it only electronics like what humans use...?"
Either way, the group would soon make their way out into the Red Sands proper; and scattered about the place would be, as expected, SkullGreymon. Rather strange ones though, given the lack of missiles and hearts. The pack would nonetheless be visibly on-edge; noses constantly sniffing the air, ears twitching every which way, tails stiff... Alexander in particular couldn't help a low rumble in his throat, at the scent of death that hung in the air about the area.
As the Witchmon mentioned the skeletons being harmless unless they were piloted though, Sirius couldn't help but hum in thought. "What if Scarlet tried to pilot one?" He'd ask, somewhat innocently, with a wag of his tail. "She's a ghost! She can sort-of-pilot anyone who's holding onto her weapons! What if we tried to have one of these skeletons hang onto her?"
"Mmm... That sounds troublesome..." Princess would briefly yawn.
Near-immediately, Scarlet would start eyeballing the nearest SkullGreymon intently - at least until Anne would grab her wrist. "Scarlet. No." She'd state simply - staring the Kobomon down firmly, even as the characteristic too-wide grin that the ghost typically made took on an almost pleading hue. However, Anne was not about to let Scarlet try to cause mayhem - not before there was even anyone to fight.
Instead, Kazumi would suggest everyone splitting up, to which Aurien nodded. "That sounds like a plan - with so many heroes here, we can probably cover a lot of ground!"
And she seemed to have the right idea of going to X2; though noone here could really fly - excluding Shuckmon, who could float and hover around - there was slightly less risk, if they got jumped by a SkullGreymon or a similar threat already prepared. Pulling out their loaders, Ettie and Anne would glance at their respective devices, eachother, and then the other packmates. "We won't DNA, for the sake of numbers." Anne stated simply. "Everyone prepared to Xros?"
Though ProtoGarummon would probably be better suited if a fight against a strong digimon occurred than Gaogamon, they were in scouting mode - not fighting mode.
"Ready as we'll ever be," Barbara would chuckle - relaxing a little at the optimistic energy that seemed to settle over the pack.
"Yeah yeah yeah!" Duchess barked in excitement, tail wagging.
"Let's get this over with." Alexander muttered; still unnerved by the sheer number of skeletons about.
But with that, came time for the pack to Xros together, one by one. First was Ettie and Duchess - and as they came together, they would form a massive white wolf. Gururumon. With two already excitable pups together in one body, the long whipping tail characteristic of any Garurumon or Gururumon would wag with excitement - lashing side to side.
Next was Anne and Princess, the Offmon in question yawning briefly as they came together. From this union would be an equally massive wolf - this time ebony in color, fur shining like obsidian. Quiet and composed, BlackGarurumon's gaze would drift over the surrounding digimon, visibly thoughtful. Almost as if out of habit, the beast would yawn widely, stretching her body briefly.
After that, came Ruffian and Adhara, the former looking quite eager to take on a stronger form of his own. They would come together to form a brown-furred Gaogamon, a brief sheen of holy light traveling along the scarf-arms characteristic of the Beast type digimon. Though still looking pretty confident and tough, it seemed like Adhara's presence in the combo may have mellowed out the Gaogamon some...?
Nonetheless, then there was Alexander and Barbara, who seemed to have a rather smooth time in Xrossing together; likely given that they were already bonded with one another quite closely. From this bond however, would come a ghastly sight - Shuckmon floating just above the ground, hellish blue flames fueling their unsettlingly disproportionate body, which creaked and rattled with each movement, and - much like with Grimon - serving as a stand-in for proper pupils.
Finally though, there would be Scarlet and Sirius; two excitable pups coming together to form another one of the few humanoid forms amongst the xros army - Cutlassmon, a piratelike canid with - as the name may suggest - two sizeable cutlasses. They grinned widely as per usual - but there seemed to be a hue of genuine excitement and happiness to it, thanks to Sirius, with the duo's tail wagging.
The only one left unxrossed would be Aurien, though he didn't mind. Instead, he'd hum a little, offering a good question... "... Should we all be going solo, or stay in groups?"
"... Groups would likely be safer." BlackGarurumon stated simply. "There's 6 of us now - 5 xroses, and Aurien. Two of the xroses and Aurien with Omen, three of us on our own, and Kazumi's group sticks together?"
"Works for us!" Gururumon would bark, her tail swishing, before glancing back at the others. "What do you all think?"

There was one curious question: could Omen or Scarlet possess one of the SkullGreymon themselves?
The Witchmon mulled it over, then shook her head. "Probably a bad idea. Whatever phantoms are using them might have cursed them to reject outsiders - and even if they didn't, the attunement process would prove too unwieldy to do so in a reasonable time. Possessing something that's living is easier, since they already have an idea of how to move all of their limbs and 'live', so you can piggyback off of that. But something that's dead, you have to string all of that up yourself."
That said, the realization alone was enough of a hint for the Witchmon. "Hm... but if that's the case, the culprit might just be one of the regular ghosts. Maybe its something as benign as just needed to be active to defend their nest, or something..."
Whatever, they were only here to provide peace of mind for the dragons for the current day. If they found nothing today, those lizards could try and figure it out amongst themselves afterwards! That aside, the group settled on forming a perimeter, on Omen's request. It made sense, of course: with two full Xros Teams, they could certainly cover a lot of ground. The Witchmon mulled it over, and gave a nod, before chuckling towards Omen. "Try not to get lost in the crowd! I'll watch from above, and call out to you all if I see something first. We'll disband thirty minutes before sundown if nothing crops up." And with that, the Witchmon would ascend, and the groups would fan out: one north, one southwest, and one east-southeast. For about an hour, this 'grim' battlefield proved to be as still and boring as the Witchmon described. Nothing out of the ordinary at all - the hot sun beating down from overhead, annoying hot sand brushing against the ankles, and a stark like of outside entertainment.
It was starting to just look like an easy paycheck - not that the Witchmon was complaining. She gave a yawn, looking down from the horizon at the ground below... and blinked. "Huh... guys? Look center."
Right - they were dealing with ghosts. Incorporeal - not like dragons who would approach from the side. From below, a dark miasma was starting to billow out from the cracked ground, like a thick gas at ankle height, the foul scent of ectoplasm starting to fill the valley. The sun was still up, light available for several hours, so this certainly shouldn't have been happening yet.
The group was prepared for their rogue ghost to appear from the sides - so how would they handle the threat from below?

So, there was something very important to clarify! Omen did not possess any abilities that would allow her to possess anything at all. She was not a poltergeist. Just a fire ghost.
Moving on to actual replies, though!
"We can do that later." She told the pack. "For now, let's just get the job done, then you can show me all the moves you want me to learn." Really, as nice as it was for them to offer that, this was hardly the time or place for it...
...
There was very little else to say, though. They had a good plan from the pack. "Sounds good." Omen nodnodded! She wasn't one for many words right now. Business. Blech.
As the Pack and everyone else assumedly assumed champion level forms, so did Omen, a small orb of flame quickly encompassing the Wispmon before expanding in size to about...the average Kyuubimon to reveal her champion form of Teumesmon. Otherwise, an hour would pass. An hour of stillness, an hour of nothing.
As Witchmon made the callout, Omen looked to the center to find a dark miasma rising up. Uh.
Given it was still day out?
Weird.
Despite the preparations being for the sides, primarily...It was still likely very possible to redirect people accordingly. That and this probably did confirm the existence of a phantom ghost. "Anne, Ettie, we should reconvene. If stuff goes bad, we start blasting. Okay?"
That sounded like the best way to go about things. And once the pups started moving, Omen would too!
