Ninja Training (Hana and Kaito)

Kohaku's revelation about him and his sister basically being on their own caused a panging of sympathy to stir in Kaito's heart, leading the stoic ninja to think about his own family. It had been a while since he'd last seen his own family in person. Recent events and his own sworn oath of service to Hana had kept him away from the clan for several months now. "The Golden Sun is more like an entire community than just a giant family, isolated yet tight-knit. Still, we will always fight to defend our own."Once all the training tools were organized, Kaito reached into the duffel bag one last time, pulling out a pair of cat bells that he clipped to his waist (one on each hip). "Now, your goal for this test is rather straightforward. All you need to do is to take one of these bells from me by noon, giving you 3 hours to do so. I will allow you 15 minutes of prep time, after which I will actively do my best to prevent you from taking the bells. You may use whatever tools you've brought with you, as well as whatever you find here at the training ground."
With the instructions given, Kaito moved to the center of the training ground and sat down in the lotus position with his eyes closed. "Your prep time begins now."

"Whatever the Golden Sun is, I would've done practically anything to have something like that for us," Kohaku said. "Fighting all on your own can get really annoying." That was all Kohaku would say before resuming his silence for the rest of the train ride. As they rode on, Kohaku wondered what things would be like if his grandpa were still alive, or what he would think if he could see Kohaku right now.
Becoming a ninja is better than becoming a pirate... right, Gramps? Am I doing the right thing?
Now at the training grounds, once all the equipment had been set out, Kaito had placed two clip-on cat bells on each of his hips, telling the Falcomon that his test was to take one of the bells away from Kaito. He would have three hours to do so, and was allowed fifteen minutes of prep time beforehand. "Sounds simple enough," Kohaku said, once again feeling very overconfident in his abilities. Taking a simple cat bell from the ninja's belt? No problem!
It wasn't until a couple of minutes into Kohaku's preparation, however, that he begun to think about what Kaito had actually said. He stood there holding two kunai's in his claws as he thought, Hold on a sec... Kaito-sensei said he'd try to actively stop me after the prep time... He turned his head over to the Tuwarmon, and then a few seconds later a devious smirk formed itself on Kohaku's beak. So what's stopping me from just taking it now?
Setting the kunai's back down, Kohaku jogged on over to where Kaito was sitting. His eyes weren't opening, despite Kohaku being up close by this point. Well, here goes nothing. He quickly extended his wing towards one of the cat bells... and just like that, he was able to pull it off without any hassle.
Clearly Kaito would've noticed by this point. Were he to look at Kohaku, the Falcomon in question would wink and hold up the bell that was previously attached to Kaito's belt. "You never said I wasn't able to take the bell during prep time."

As Kohaku grabbed the bell from Kaito, causing it to jingle a bit in the process, Kaito opened his eyes to see that the Falcomon had actually used his prep time to just take the bell. It wasn't very visible due to his limited facial expressions, but Kohaku would still be able to feel that Kaito was impressed by his student's boldness. "Heh. Indeed I did not. There were multiple paths to success for this test, and you followed the quickest and most direct route. Well done, my student."
The sound of clapping could be heard radiating through the clearing, but it didn't come from Kaito. The ninja looked up into the trees, where a Karatenmon was sitting lazily on a sturdy branch. "Oh, that was brilliant! Looks like your first student's one smart cookie, bro."
"Takashi. This is a surprise." Kaito replied respectfully, getting to his feet quickly enough to cause a small gust of wind. The Karatenmon hopped down from his perch, gracefully landing next to the Tuwarmon. The two of them briefly stared at each other, before the Karatenmon wrapped Kaito in a warm embrace.
"Heh, my little brother's finally visiting us after being gone for months and you expect me not to drop in and say hi?" Takashi teased, before inquisitively angling his head towards Kohaku. "Now, who's this little guy? It's like looking at a spitting image of myself as a kid!"
That little remark did cause an interesting thought to enter the Karatenmon's head though, as he let go of Kaito and started posing overdramatically. "Now, hold the phone. Could this little champ be yours, by any chance? Has my darling little brother actually settled down and started a family?" (OOC: I hope this can serve to help sow the initial seeds of Kaito possibly adopting Kohaku and Ruri.

Kohaku was a bit stunned to hear Kaito give praise to him like that, even going as far as to call him his student. The blush on the Falcomon's face was brief but noticeable as he tried to re-compose himself. "Well, of course I would find the most direct way to getting the bell," Kohaku would say as he gave his trademark cocky grin. "That's 'cuz I'm just naturally gifted at this sorta thing, no big deal."
Then a sudden sound of clapping could be heard through the clearing. Kohaku turned around and looked up towards the trees, where he too could see a bird-like ninja Digimon sitting lazily on one of the branches. Kohaku recognized this Digimon as a Karatenmon. What really got Kohaku's surprise, however, was the fact that this Karatenmon had called Kaito "bro." The Falcomon's eyes widened. "B-Bro?"
With his name being revealed to be Takashi, the Karatenmon flew down from the branch and landed next to Kaito. Kohaku just looked back and forth at the two of them for a bit until Takashi joyfully embraced Kaito, which caused Kohaku to smirk a bit just from how much he had gotten to know Kaito up to this point. "Hey there. My name's Kohaku," he responded with a simple two-claw salute to the Karatenmon. Takashi mentioned how Kohaku looked like him when he was a kid, which surprised Kohaku a bit. "You were a Falcomon, too? I've never met another Falcomon in my life. As far as I knew, I was the only one." It wouldn't be until later that Kohaku would be told about Owen's teammate in the 7/71st, Farrow, who was also a Falcomon.
Then Takashi let go of his brother and asked if Kohaku was Kaito's son. Kohaku stood there for a few moments, unsure of how to respond to this sudden piece of information. His reaction was... exactly that. He went pure white as his mind tried to race to process what had been said. In all fairness, Kaito felt much more like a father than Kohaku's actual father, but if he said anything like that, then that would raise questions about Osamu and that was simply just a topic that Kohaku preferred to avoid at the moment.
Although, he did have one question to ask afterwards... "What's a phone?"

Kohaku's visible shock at Takashi calling Kaito "bro" caused the Karatenmon to smirk as best as his beak would allow. "Oh, he hasn't told you? This guy's my younger brother by nearly a year. " "And yet I am still the most mature between the two of us." Kaito responded, the minor burn actually causing Takashi to step back and dramatically clutch at his chest. "Oh, you wound me, Kaito." Takashi moaned, before almost immediately breaking into laughter and patting Kaito on the back. "Oh, I've missed you! Things just haven't been the same around here without you!""Alas, I won't be staying for long. I owe someone a great debt for helping me in a time of need, and have thus sworn to protect them in order to repay them for their kindness." Kaito replied, shaking his head. "Ah, a bodyguard gig. I get ya." Takashi sagely said, nodding in understanding. When Kohaku mentioned Takashi having been a Falcomon, and the kid revealed that he's never seen another one, Takashi turned to him and decided to help the kid out with an explanation. "Well, I was a Falcomon as a Rookie, yes, but not quite the same kind as you. There are two main kinds of Falcomons: black-and-red ones like you, and then there are brown-and-green ones like me."To go with that explanation, Takashi decided to give a practical demonstration by de-digivolving back into his own Falcomon form, a brown-and-green bird Digimon that looked more like an actual hawk or falcon compared to Kohaku's more owl-like shape. Unlike a normal Brown Falcomon, however, Takashi's feathers were a lot fluffier, to the point that he looked like a giant ball of downy fluff. Even his eyes were hard to make out underneath all of his feathers. "Ack, I forgot how hard it is to see with all this fluff. You do see what I mean, though, right?"
On the topic of Kohaku's family, Kaito merely shook his head and said, "No, Young Kohaku here is not mine. My duties have left me too busy to contemplate having a family. Young Kohaku is simply a student I have taken under my wing, so to speak."Kohaku's quiet reaction to that line of discussion did stand out to Kaito, though, who filed that topic away as something to possibly be talked about at a later time. Neither brother could really answer the young Falcomon's question about phones, though. Takashi could only say, "To be honest, I'm not 100% sure myself. I know it's something humans use to talk to each other over long distances, but I've never actually seen one in person."

If it wasn't the fact that these two were brothers that surprised Kohaku, it was the fact that Takashi was actually the older one of the two. As much as Kohaku liked Kaito, he saw the ninja as an uptight old man, so to see that the more jovial brother was actually the older one was interesting to hear. Still, the two seemed to get along real well despite their major differences. It reminded him a bit of how Kohaku got along with Ruri. He wondered how Takashi would take to meeting her... Though the bodyguard thing did have Kohaku a bit curious. "Kaito-sensei, that human girl has partners of her own... why do you feel like you must protect her?" Kohaku asked his teacher. He was sure there was a decently logical explanation behind Kaito's decision on that matter, but the Falcomon still wanted to know what that reason was. Takashi explained to Kohaku that there were actually two different types of Falcomons; black and purple ones like Kohaku himself, and brown and green ones like the one Takashi was. To demonstrate this, the avian ninja devolved back into his rookie form. However, this particular Falcomon was EXTREMELY fluffy, to the point where even his eyes were covered in fluffy feathers. Kohaku blinked a bit before he started giggling, putting his wings over his beak. "Y-Yeah, I see what you meahehehehehean, ahahahaha!" The Falcomon just couldn't contain his laughter anymore! Now would probably be a good time for Takashi to evolve back to Karatenmon.
Kaito explained to Takashi that Kohaku was simply a student of his, to which Kohaku couldn't help but mutter to himself quietly: "You've been more like a dad to me, though..." Unbeknownst to Kohaku, though, either Kaito or Takashi would've been able to hear this, but would they bring it up?
A "phone"... that actually sounded really interesting. "I wish we had things like that here. That way Ruri and I could talk no matter where we-" The Falcomon then paused as he thought back to earlier today... he didn't know that he'd be leaving Rosewood, and he left Ruri all alone... and Osamu knows they're in Rosewood. "Oh no... Kaito, I left my sister back home! She can't be left alone over there, we have to go back and get her!"
Naturally, Kaito and Takashi would likely be confused, and would probably start asking questions at this point. After all, Kohaku went from cool as a cucumber to freaking out in almost no time at all. "There's no time to explain! All I know is that I'm not gonna be able to think straight while I'm worrying about her!" However, this would be when a familiar looking Biyomon would step out from the forest and walk up behind Kohaku, the Falcomon not noticing something amiss at all.
"What if you didn't have to worry about her?" Ruri asked her brother.
"Not now, Ruri," Kohaku quickly said. "So we gotta go back to Rosewood and get-" Kohaku then paused once the information on whose voice spoke to him fully set in. "R-Ruri!"
"Surprised to see me, Brother?" the Biyomon asked with a smile on her face, holding her wings behind her back. "You didn't think I wasn't going to find a way to tag along with you and Mr. Kaito, did you?" Then she noticed the unfamiliar face: Takashi. "Oh, um, hi there. Are you with Mr. Kaito as well?"

Kohaku's question about why Kaito put so much effort into protecting Hanacaused the ninja to pause as he tried to put his feelings into words. "That is true, but this is a matter of honor rather than necessity. It wouldn't be right for me to not repay her in some manner. However, this arrangement is strictly between Lady Hana and me, and has no bearing on our relationship as master and student."
His tone of voice would make it very clear that this was one subject on which Kohaku wouldn't be able to change his stance on the matter.
Meanwhile, after seeing his fluffy Falcomon form drive Kohaku to uncontrollable laughter, Takashi took that as his cue to return to his Karatenmon form. The tengu-like Digimon rubbed his head in embarrassment as he spoke, "Yeah, that's pretty much the reaction I expected to get. That's why I don't use that form very often anymore. Plus those feathers are murder when it's hot out."
Kaito did hear Kohaku's muttering about Kaito being more like a dad to him, which led to troubling implications when combined with Kohaku's earlier statements about the two bird siblings being on their own after their grandfather died.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view), Kaito didn't have a chance to ask Kohaku about his family situation before the young Falcomon started freaking out about leaving his sister in Rosewood. Both Kaito and Takashi sprung to full attention at this revelation, until Ruri actually walked into the clearing (having somehow managed to follow them all the way from Rosewood without being noticed until now).
As for Ruri asking who Takashi, the Karatenmon had to fight the urge to laugh from witnessing the humorous interaction between Kohaku and Ruri as he gave his answer. "Name's Takashi. Since your brother's a bird Digimon, unlike my brother Kaito here, I was asked to come here and help your bro with stuff Kaito can't teach him on his own. Like stuff related to flying and whatnot!"

"If you don't mind me asking... what did this Hana do for you to wanna repay her so badly?" Kohaku asked, feeling like he was stepping on egg shells by asking such a question. "Gramps taught my sister and I to respect everyone, regardless of if they were human or Digimon, but... I don't know, humans just sort of seem unremarkable to me, even the good ones." Kohaku thought back to Haru and Natsu, how they help him and Ruri when they were at their lowest point, but the feeling didn't just magically go away... Takashi was clearly embarrassed by the way that Kohaku was laughing at his Falcomon form, and took that as his cue to evolve back into Karatenmon, admitting that that's why he doesn't really use the form anymore... as well as the fact that those feathers were misery-inducing in the heat. "Try having black feathers that absorb the heat," Kohaku countered, lifting his right wing up for emphasis. Of course Kohaku was the only one to not notice Ruri as she walked into the clearing, hence making Kohaku's reaction to her presence even funnier for those reading this at home. Kohaku looked at his smiling Biyomon sister with great confusion and asked, "How did you even know where we were?"
"I followed you after you came into my room this morning," Ruri said with a shrug. "I didn't think that Kaito would take you on a Trailmon trip, so I just decided to get on the Trailmon as well."
"Didn't wanna use that teleport spell?"
Ruri sweatdropped. "I still need to work on my magic before I use that one again, hehe..." Takashi then introduced himself to Ruri, explaining that he was Kaito's brother and that he was here to help train Kohaku in things like flying. "Oh, I didn't know that Kaito had a younger brother!"
"Actually, Kaito's the younger one."
"Wait, what? Really?"
The training would then resume for another three to four hours, with Ruri happily watching from the sidelines. Kohaku was doing great so far, proving himself to be naturally gifted at combat and the way of the ninja, from throwing weapons to substitutions. Sure, it was still only the basics so far, but Kohaku was proving himself to be more and more capable of further training by the minute. It was around twelve-thirty in the afternoon when bodily functions were starting to catch up with the Falcomon, however. For the past half hour, Kohaku was looking more and more out of breath, despite his insistence that he could keep going. Eventually, his own stomach growled loud enough to be heard by the brothers, revealing that he was in fact starving. He put a wing on his belly and blushed a bit, hoping that neither of them heard it.

Kohaku's question about why Kaito felt so honor-bound to protect a human did cause Kaito to reflexively clench his hands for a moment, but he quickly released that tension since he knew the young Falcomon meant no actual disrespect. "She and her partners help to free me from a parasitic entity that was using my body as a vessel to cause untold havoc. That is the reason that I feel honor-bound to repay her. It is okay if you still do not understand, as this duty is solely my own belief."
After a few hours of training, which Kohaku ended up taking too like a Gomamon to water, Kaito definitely noticed when the young Falcomon started slowing down. The growl from his stomach made it clear why the Falcomon was tiring. For that reason, Kaito raised his hand to call a halt to their work. "You have done well, so far, young Kohaku. Far better than I'd expected from a new student. But for now, I believe that it is time that we take a break for lunch."
The Tuwarmon would then go over to the table where he'd organized his supplies and grabbed a stack of lunchboxes. Kaito had planned for Ruri possibly tagging along so he had prepared four lunches for the group, which he passed around to the others. The food withing wouldn't be too complicated (consisting mostly of rice balls, diced vegetables, and smoked fish), but it should be reasonably filling nonetheless. After the lunches were handed out, Kaito would use a smoke bomb so that he could eat his own meal in private.

Oh, wow... the young Falcomon had to admit, he was not expecting to hear such an answer. Kaito-sensei was seriously taken over by some kind of evil parasite? He seemed like the type that could easily resist brainwashing or possession effortlessly... it was clear to Kohaku that the Tuwarmon held a high amount of guilt and regret for being involved in such an incident. "So if it weren't for that human... you wouldn't be here with us right now." Kohaku needed a moment to process this information, but it was safe to say that his respect for humans increased dramatically. "I get why now. Do something that big for someone, and a simple 'thank you' isn't gonna cut it."
And so, the training resumed. Kohaku hoped he was impressing Kaito with how quickly he was able to pick it all up, and he wanted to keep going and keep on improving. Unfortunately, his body was demanding a break, and Kaito himself was able to detect that fairly quickly. Kohaku watched as Kaito raised a hand, praising Kohaku and also suggesting that they take a break for lunch. "...yeah, alright. I'm starving."
It was handy that Kaito had packed four separate lunches, as if he was expecting Ruri to come along to begin with. He passed the lunch boxes out to Kohaku, Ruri and Takashi, which consisted a fairly normal Japanese lunch: rice balls, diced vegetables and smoked fish, mostly. As simple as it was, it looked like the best and tastiest thing ever to the pair of hungry bird children that Kaito apparently agreed to look after. "Wow, this looks incredible!"
"Yeah, but it's got nothing on Grandpa's chocolate-covered ramen!" Ruri proclaimed wholeheartedly, as if that was a totally normal dish for someone to make.
"Heh, good point right there, sis."
Kohaku and Ruri both then noticed that Kaito went the extra mile by using a smoke bomb to disappear with his own food. It... made Kohaku feel kinda bad, if he was being honest. He wanted to eat with his teacher, but then Kaito just up and left on them. Kohaku decided that, to get his revenge, he'd start talking to Takashi while Kaito was gone. "Takashi, right? Do you have any, say... embarrassing stories about Kaito-sensei? Since you are his brother, and all." Kaito was going to rue the day that he decided to not eat with his star pupil!

Ruri's comment about chocolate-covered ramen ended up earning her a slightly confused look from Takashi, before he quickly brushed it off. "Chocolate ramen? Never heard of that combo before. Oh, well. To each his own, I guess."
After Kaito did his dramatic ninja vanish, Takashi merely sighed and took a bite out of one of his rice balls. Even after all these years, the Karatenmon still never got used to his brother going so far out of his way to eat on his own. And they call Takashi the dramatic brother. However, Kohaku's request for embarrassing family stories about Kaito caused the Karatenmon to feel his inner flame of mischief flare up once more as he got an idea.
...Okay, maybe he was the dramatic brother. Oh, well.
"Embarrassing stories, you say? I might have a few..." Takashi revealed, twirling a chopstick in his hand as he pretended to mull it over. "However, such valuable information cannot just be given away. It must come at a price. If you want the deets, then I want to learn more about you guys and your family. Deal?"

"Gramps had a load of recipes like that," Kohaku explained when Takashi seemed confused about the Chocolate Ramen combination. "Ramen with banana slices, mint chocolate and broccoli pizza, bacon-wrapped cookies... he was a really great chef!"
Keyword: was.
As Kohaku, Ruri, and Takashi ate their lunches while Kaito went to go eat behind a tree form some unknown reason, Kohaku decided to ask Takashi if there were any embarrassing moments featuring Kaito when he was younger. He felt this would be the best punishment for not eating with your brother and student, or at least the best punishment the young ninja bird could think of. Takashi agreed to share, but only if Kohaku and Ruri shared a bit about their own family, as well.
They both shared unsure glances at each other, both of them having the same unwillingness to recall such details to someone that they really did just meet. Especially since their story was not exactly one that left good feeling afterwards. Eventually, Ruri just closed her eyes and said, "It's okay, Kohaku. I think we can trust him."
"Are you sure? Alright..." Kohaku said back, before turning to face Takashi. "We grew up outside of Whitewater City with our grandpa, Ouwa, and he was an Owlmon. We never met our mother and our father Osamu has... problems, so it was Gramps that took care of us when we were still really, really little."
"The only thing I really remember about those days is all the dishes Grandpa would make for us. It's kind of difficult to forget that."
"Hahaha, you got that right, sis," Kohaku said with a laugh, before his face went grim again. "Then, something happened. There was this weird fruit that was being sold in Whitewater, fruit with all these blemish things on them, and Gramps decided to buy some." Considering that fruit in the Digital World was 100% perfect, this would be incredibly alarming to Takashi.
Kohaku continued. "Then, Gramps got sick. He became addicted to these fruits, and he was a lot meaner than before, and when they were all out, he was in massive pain. He wasn't the only one, so we were all taken to the Binary Archipelago to cure them and figure out what was going on, since that's where the fruit came from. Turns out, it was thanks to this Cherrymon that was infected with some sort of virus from another Digital World entirely! And... and there were Digimon that took this fruit and sold it in Whitewater just to get rich!"
That's when tears started falling down the Falcomon's face, and the ninja in training was unable to stop them. "That wasn't even the worst part... after the Cherrymon was killed, we went back to heal the others. But Gramps... Gramps..."
"Grandpa was already dead," Ruri said, looking equally as distraught as her brother.
"...it turned out that virus had some kind of weird side effect: if it killed a Digimon, their body didn't turn to data. It just stayed there. I waited and waited, and begged for Gramps to be brought back to the Village of Beginnings, and... and it never happened. We had to... we had to bury him back home."
Kohaku and Ruri would pause for a bit to let that sink in for both Takashi and Kaito. "Our dad's a pirate," Ruri admitted. "A really bad pirate. He and his crew take over ships, kidnap Digimon for ransom, invade villages and towns... he's just the worst kind of person you could think of."
"That's why I was so worried about Ruri earlier. Our dad's been chasing after us ever since he heard that Gramps died, all so that he can force us to join his awful crew since he thinks we have to since we're his kids. He'll do anything and hurt anyone just to get after us..."

Takashi, who had been planning on eating while the siblings told their story, ended up freezing with his chopsticks halfway to his mouth with a clump of rice as the siblings shared their tragic past. The Karatenmon was definitely regretting his own actions here, as he set the rice back into his lunchbox and set the box off to the side. Without saying a word, Takashi stood up and moved over to Kohaku and Ruri so he could place a hand on each of their shoulders. "I am so sorry for making you two remember all of that. You two are some of the bravest kids I've ever met, and I'm sure your grandfather would be so proud of both of you."
Takashi then pulled the two into a gentle hug, making sure that Kohaku and Ruri could easily pull away if they decided to. "Also, your dad can go and get eaten by a Whamon. No way is he gonna get his grubby mitts on you while we're around."
"Indeed. Now that our role as mentor and student has been cemented, young Kohaku, you and your sister are now officially part of our community. Scoundrels like him are not well-tolerated within our borders, especially ones that seek to exploit or abuse their own children." Kaito added, making a sudden appearance out of nowhere like he was Batman. He still made sure to appear out of arm's reach of the other three, incase someone tried to take a swing at him out of reflex or something. "If your father tries to harass you against your will, he will have to get past our entire village in order to reach you."
"And if you're worried about what he'd do to us? Don't be. Our dad and Grandpappy Sinduramon alone are veritable one-'mon-armies! Dad's an awesome swordsman, and our Pappy is preeeetty much a kung-fu master!" Takashi chimed in, hoping to cut off some of the concerns Kohaku and Ruri might have at the source.

The mood was considerably less joyous after Kohaku and Ruri explained their story to Kaito and his brother Takashi. It was supposed to just be a fun moment of bonding in which tidbits of information was traded, but it ended up being far more grim than that. Takashi himself was visibly stunned by what he was hearing, as evident by the way he froze mid-bite as Kohaku began telling their tale.
Takashi then got up and pulled the two birds into a hug, apologizing for making them recall all of that and calling them the bravest kids he had ever known. Neither of the birds quite knew how to respond when the Karatenmon started to hug the two of them, but after a moment, they both agreed that the feeling was nice. They both hugged Takashi back, crying with both sadness and happiness as they had SOMEONE they could hug again.
"I didn't know how much I needed this... until this very moment..." Kohaku said through all the tears and crying.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Takashi," Ruri said in a similar way.
After the hug had ended, Kaito appeared seemingly out of nowhere, but this time it didn't scare Kohaku or Ruri. Both he and Takashi made it clear that as long as they were around, no one like their father would come around to try and attack or kidnap them. Takashi even explained that their dad and grandfather were both highly skilled fighters, so the siblings wouldn't have to worry about what their father would do to them if he ever did come. Kohaku still had reservations, though; he remembered his early days of life, seeing exactly what his father was capable of before Ouwa came and took both him and his soon-to-be-born sister's egg away.
The screams of the innocent Digimon as the poor beach village was burnt to the ground, just so the crew could secure a massive wealth hidden underneath... a horrible first memory, but a first memory nonetheless.
"Thank you, Mr. Takashi! Mr. Kaito!" Ruri cheered as she jogged over to Kaito and began hugging him without his consent, wrapping her wings around his waist and rubbing her cheek on his belly, as that was the only part of him that she could reach.
"If you two don't mind, though, I think we'd like to stay living in Rosewood. We both go to school there, and we have friends there, as well. You could both live with us, though, couldn't you?"

Kohaku's request for Kaito and Takashi to come and live with them in Rosewood was understandable, given what the two siblings had gone through, but the complexity of the situation made Kaito hesitate before answering. "While that does sound like a good idea, the fact of the matter is that my other duties make this... complicated. My duty to Lady Hana would require me to be away for long periods of time, although I will strive to make time for the two of you whenever I can."
"Well, luckily for you guys, I have no problem with moving to Rosewood. You kids can rely on ol' Uncle Takashi to take care of you!" Takashi butted in, patting Kohaku and Ruri gently on the head as he spoke. "I always pack light, so I can be ready to move in, like, a week. No joke."
Takashi's words lifted an invisible weight off of Kaito's back. His brother may be an unrepentant trickster, but the Tuwarmon could trust his sibling to take care of the two children. "Would that be an acceptable arrangement to the both of you?"
It wasn't a perfect solution, but it might be the best one they could come up with for the time being.
