Do You Wanna Build a Schoolhouse? [R-Con Job E]
|

Note: This thread will be part of the Rosewood Construction Project, namely Construction Job E.
Owen the Gaomon could hardly believe his eyes as his sons Matty the Onmon, Jimmy the Musimon and Lewis the Gabumon had led him to the site of the abandoned schoolhouse that they had discovered. Yes, it was a bit distant from the core of Rosewood City, about a half-hour walk from the outermost suburb, so transport might pose a problem, but, then again, perhaps learning in the serene isolation of the vast forest might be a bonus than a disadvantage? “Uhh, dad, you okay there? You haven’t said anything for a few minutes.” Matty remarked, bringing Owen back to earth. “Ah, yeah, I’m right, mate. Just taking in the first sight.” the Gaomon replied with a grin. “Yep, this sure looks like a good find. Rosewood could do with a proper school, and this place looks like it can fit the deal. But tell me, how did you find it, and what happened here?”
At this, Matty, Jimmy and Lewis told their story of how they had discovered the place and what they had encountered within. Owen nodded as it lined up with what they had said happened on the day. Matty and Jimmy had both evolved to Adult level for the first time in order to vanquish the wild digimon that had lived here. He also gave an anxious sigh as he was reminded that his old foe Lt. Renamon had taken up residence here too. “Well then. That shouldn’t be too difficult.” Owen said. “Like you said, she helped protect you. And we sorted out our old problems with a card game earlier, so I’ve got no problems with her anymore.”“Oh yeah, I remember that.” Matty said, grinning. “Anyway, let’s see… we’re probably going to need a lot of work to get this building back up to scratch. The wood doesn’t look good…” Owen proceeded up to the building and noted the wooden walls were covered with moss. Out of intuition, he readied a punch, and delivered a right cross to the panel. To his dismay, his fist punched right through the wood, its integrity having rotted away long ago. “Hmm. This is gonna take a while.” he remarked. “It’ll probably be a few weeks, if not months to get this place back up and running. But, I can see it happening. We’re gonna be pretty busy in this for a while.”“Sounds great, dad!” Jimmy cheered. “Since we graduated from your classes, we’ve been kinda bored. This sounds fun, rebuilding a place like this!”Matty and Lewis made similar sentiments, which pleased Owen. “Okay then. For now, let’s head back to the city. We’ll need a fairly decently big crew to help us with this. I’ll call on Colin from AEGIS and your brother and sister Bezil and Jill to see if they can bring some assistance. Ah, and also the Trailmon network. Ideally we should see if they can arrange for a track to run up to here to bring all the building materials.”With that, they would return to the city, putting up a notice on the board in the Rosewood City Square that they were hiring help to repair the abandoned schoolhouse. And furthermore, to Owen’s delight, a branch line was hastily built that linked the main line from Rosewood to Terminus to a siding next to the schoolhouse. On the day that work was to begin, Owen, Matty, Jimmy and Lewis stood ready to receive the hired work crews, eager to get things started. While they were waiting, Owen heard a noise from behind them, from the schoolhouse. He relaxed when he saw who it was. “Hello, Lieutenant.” he said, nodding his head in respect. “Good morning, Owen.” Lt. Renamon replied. “I’m guessing that today is the day that you and your children have arrived to repair this place.”“Yes, it is.” Owen affirmed. “I hope that won’t be a problem for you?”“No, it won’t be.” Renamon shook her head, then hesitantly continued. “Actually, since your sons visited here, I’ve been considering my place in the new world, and I would like to ask you if you would be fine if I too became a teacher here?”Owen was somewhat taken aback here. He had faced Lt. Renamon as an enemy in war before, and now here she was, asking to teach children. He shook off his instinctive response to deny her, but took care to keep his wits around him. “What do you have to offer?” he asked, carefully. “Well, for a start, there’s the difference of our battle techniques.” Renamon began. “You might be talented with physical combat, but I specialize in magical combat. You acknowledge that so far, yes?”“...that’s right, I do.” Owen nodded. “Anything else?”“You recall… that I was familiar with some technical projects of the DWR.” Renamon continued, sounding strained. It was no wonder, their last battle had been in defense of a Black Digicite device that blocked evolution beyond Child level. “I have much to educate young ones of the nature of the digital world.”Owen mulled over this. Yes, Lt. Renamon had once been an enemy, but she had risked her own life to save his sons. He had reason to trust that she had changed. “Alright then. I can accept you as a fellow teacher here once the school is ready to open.” he said, keeping a hold of his hesitations for now. “For the moment, let’s see who shows up here.”

Mandrake had parked the car near a hotel not far from a notice board in Rosewood City Square and he, Lothar, and Circe got out of the car heading for the board. Sure Circe was young but Mandrake figured she was old enough to be involved in a job along with he and Lothar. All that was needed was to pick the right job. As the three of them made it to the board Mandrake and Lothar looked over the board taking in the various jobs available with Circe looking at the board quietly as well. Circe, while clutching Mandrake's artificial arm, moved a bit closer and pointed at one of the jobs making Mandrake and Lothar look at what the young spiderling was pointing at and Lothar said "This job is looking for help to repair an abandoned schoolhouse. At least this one isn't involving a digimon attacking construction workers."
"I think we can handle this." Mandrake said and the Wizardmon and Leomon read the instructions on where to go and decided to walk there. When the family arrived it was clear there were other digimon already there making Circe clutch Mandrake's artificial hand tightly before moving behind him clutching the Wizardmon's cape. Mandrake and Lothar knew of Circe's timidness so they didn't bother her. Mandrake then waved at the group as the extroverted magician called out "Hello there. We're here about the job on the notice board."

A young boy walked around without any particular direction. His goal? Nothing really. He's carrying a small backpack that looked a bit bigger than schoolbag for boy of that age, but also doesn't looks like it's fully filled. There is no indication that he's with any partner either. A semblance of partner that he have, one... let's just say that he's probably busy doing something else. As for the one that's really resembling a partner (or more like a father), let's just say he's away looking for something. Mostly his comrade who might have answer for their current predicament.
That left him pretty much housesitting but... His father basically told him that he's free to move around. Rosewood is much more secure than Whitewater after all. It's also not as... maze-y as it's a relatively young city. The boy walked around, humming and seem to really enjoy looking at the sight. After all, when was the first time he saw a city filled with so much plants? So integrated with nature? ....Oh, right, never, he's amnesic.
Just as he went a bit farther into the edge of the city, he heard some people talking. Huh, that's a huge building. What i it for? He approached it with keen interest, smiling. There are a lot of Digimons... there are fox, dog... what are those two? There are also a pelted.... hmn? Actually what are they? The only one that he could tell was the one that looked like his father...
...That one is awfully small, though. Like, sure compared to him, the lion man is much, much taller. But compared to his dear ol' dada? ......Man that one's small. Then again, his father was as tall as a building now that he think of it. Either way... he slowly approached.
"Excuse me! What kind of place is this?"
...Ah right, he might gonna look like a lost kid, but the boy, being eight, does not quite understand the connotation of 'you're a kid', that just suddenly approachd some group of Digimon, without guardian at it!

Owen and company waited for the work crew to arrive. And sure enough, some volunteers did show up. Owen was pleased to see. Among them was a young human that asked what this place was.
“It’s a schoolhouse, mate.” Owen said, patiently. “It’s a bit run-down, but we’re gonna tidy it up and rebuild it, once the rest of the support arrives. Ah… speak of the devil…”
His ears twitched as sure enough, he heard a distant roar of aerial engines approaching. And coming from above was the familiar gleaming red and silver hull of Daedalus the Heliodramon, the mega-level Airship digimon that he knew was carrying friends here to the site. And shortly afterward, he heard the oncoming engine of a Trailmon pulling into the hastily built siding that would carry the bulk of the materials to and from the site.
Daedalus landed first, and three individuals stepped out of his cabin compartment. The human Colin James and his twin partners Luke and Bellamy, all friends of Owen. The Gaomon was glad to see Luke in particular, as the Elecmon had studied engineering in the human world and would know the best of how to approach this project.
Next, the Trailmon came to a halt at the siding, his train consisting of two carriages full of Child level volunteers from Rosewood among others, 2 wagons full of shelter equipment and tools, and a further 10 empty wagons. Owen had been a little confused by Luke instructing this be the initial first train for the project, but he trusted his friend to know what he was doing.
Once everyone had disembarked and the initial setup was made, Owen used his loud, military voice to call for assembly. “Alrighty! Everyone gather in the courtyard! Smoothly now!”
“Heh. You never do lose that Sergeant voice, do you?” Renamon remarked with a chuckle. Owen gave a shrug and a smirk in response. Colin, Luke and Bellamy meanwhile looked confused, but not dissuaded from their jobs here.
“Alrighty, everyone, thank you very much for volunteering for this job here.” Owen said to the gathered workers. “Rest assured, you will be compensated and rewarded for this work, it will not be unpaid. In return, all I ask is your full cooperation with the planners and supervisors. If any issue arises, please report to me directly and I’ll sort it out.”
With that, the Gaomon pointed to the derelict school building behind him. “Our job is to repair and bring this building back into working order. Once completed, it will be the prime school of Rosewood. Digimon, and indeed humans will attend and learn the ways of the world so that they can not only survive, but thrive in the world, building their knowledge and wisdom within. As it stands, it can’t do that, but by the time we’re finished with it, it will be.”
“Ugh, just when you think you’re done with one school, you gotta start with another.” Bellamy muttered, but was only heard by Colin, who gave a small chuckle.
“So then. Assisting us with this project is Luke James, who has studied extensively with engineering. We’ll follow his instructions on this from the outset.” Owen continued, then turned to his Elecmon friend. “So, Luke, what is the first step?”
“Well, what we’ll have to do first is strip the building down to its foundations.” Luke declared. Owen blinked in surprise at this.
“That drastic?” he asked, wanting it confirmed.
“Well of course. We can’t have a safe building if its floors and walls are rotted down like this.” the Elecmon explained. “But don’t worry, I’ve inspected the foundation frames in the past week and they’re all acceptable. Once we’ve got the rotten stuff out, we can replace it with new materials and make it even better than it was before. As destructive as this process is, this is basically the ‘cleanup’ stage, where we get rid of all the waste and from there, approach the project with more clarity.”
“Hmm, makes sense to me.” Colin remarked. “Not much you can do with rotten wood, other than turn it to sawdust.”
Owen saw the logic in all this, then turned to the work crew that was awaiting direction.
“Alrighty, everyone, you heard the engineer here!” he said, loudly and clearly. “Everything rotten is junk. Floorboards, wall panels, internal wires, even the roof. Everything but the frames has to be disposed of.” he pointed to the courtyard. “Bring it all out here, and the Trailmons will haul it away! We can’t rebuild while the pieces are too old to be used!”
“Well said, Owen.” Luke agreed with his sentiment. “Now then. Colin, Bells, we’ll handle the gymnasium for a start.”
“Aw, we’ve gotta work?” Bellamy asked, pouting. “Look at all these big guys though. Owen could handle that as MachGaogamon in an hour or so…”
“Perhaps, but as MachGaogamon, I can strip the upper floors safely with my flying ability.” Owen reminded the Impmon, who sighed and relented.
“Okay then, this is step one of the operation. Strip everything bare, then we can get the building party started for real!” Colin declared to the work party. Honestly this seemed like a rather exciting project for him, something that would help the digital world.

"Huh, what's this?" Adrian asked himself as his eye caught something on the board in the Rosewood City Square. He and Shoutmon were out of the house running errands at the moment, and as fate would have it, they'd come across another job. This time, it was actually a notice made by their friend Owen the Gaomon, who needed help repairing this old schoolhouse that had been found in the woods. "Fixing a broken schoolhouse? I dunno... should we help the guy out?" Shoutmon asked his partner. "I've never really done anything like this before, but we should at least offer some kind of helping hand, right?" Adrian said, figuring it probably wouldn't be that difficult. Of course, he was a pretty lazy guy before he met Shoutmon, and those traits didn't completely go away, so he was worried about not contributing as much. Oh well, some help is better than none, right? "Why don't we invite that Agumon, as well?"
"Agumon? Wait, you mean Sol?" Shoutmon asked, raising an eye ridge. "I dunno, the kid's nice, but he seems kinda clingy to me."
"Come on, you've seen how he acts around you. The kid looks up to you; why not give him a chance to remind him why, in my opinion, think he should?" "Hmmmm... eh, what the heck? I probably owe him for accidentally getting him involved with that weird Jackal Unit group, anyways."
And so the very next day, Adrian, Shoutmon, and their new Agumon companion Sol all took the new Trailmon branch line all the way down to the schoolhouse construction site that was listed on the board. And it was on that that they had run into none other than Kohaku and Ruri, the Falcomon and Biyomon siblings that were good friends with Shoutmon's son Gem. They were traveling with a Karatenmon that neither of them had seen before. The six of them would talk and get acquainted with one another... and learn that Kaito had basically adopted Kohaku and Ruri, much to Adrian's and Shoutmon's surprise, and that this Karatenmon was his brother, Takashi.
"You sure have a lot of friends, Shoutmon," Sol said to his idol with a smile. "Heh heh, yeah..."
It would take around half an hour for the Trailmon to arrive at the schoolhouse, something that made Adrian wonder if it was a good idea to have it be this far away from the actual town to begin with. They would also be some of the last ones to arrive, as they hadn't even spent five minutes off the Trailmon before they heard Owen's voice telling everyone to gather in the courtyard. They figured there wasn't time to talk with Owen before the work started. And once they had gathered up, Owen had informed everyone that they would, in fact, be getting paid for the work they were doing here. Huh, didn't even know we WERE going to be paid, Adrian thought to himself. Well, I'll still take it anyways, but still.
After that, Owen brought a friend of his, an Elecmon named Luke James, to explain what the work crew would be doing... in short, they'd be starting with removing all the rotten wood from the schoolhouse, which made sense to Adrian. He knew the Digimon wouldn't have a problem with this, but Adrian wasn't quite sure if he himself was up to this task. It helped that Owen and his friends were doing a good job at getting everyone hyped up.
"I guess we oughta get started with the cafeteria then," Adrian said to Shoutmon and Sol. "Come on, let's get to work."
"If it involves tearing things up, then I'm your 'mon," Sol said with a grin as he activated the claw weapon on his wrist.
"I can assure you all that I'LL be the superior wrecker among all of us," Kohaku stepped in with his usual faux overconfidence.
"Come on, you two, let's not make this a competition," Ruri said, stepping in between Kohaku and Sol. As Adrian, Shoutmon, and Sol went to go work on tearing up the cafeteria, Ruri would walk over to Owen. "Mr. Owen, do you want me and my family to help with the upper floors since we can also fly?"

After Mandrake greeted Owen's group a young human boy looking around caught his attention. He seemed pretty young compared to the average human Mandrake typically saw but the sight of there not being a digimon with him made the magician wonder if there was the possibility of him being a spirit wielder. Then the young man asked what kinda place this was. This seemed weird to both Mandrake and Lothar given the kid's age being definitely a school aged boy not yet in middle school. Maybe it was possible he was homeschooled but if that were the case this kid would of had to of at least heard of a school. Then again the building looked in retched shape so even if the young human knew what a school was it didn't really look much like one at this time.
When the Gaomon known as Owen explained what the building was Mandrake said "I know the school is in bad shape so it doesn't really look much like one. So young man did you come to help rebuild this school like the rest of us did?" Mandrake's tone of voice was gentle and patient as he was trying not to potentially frighten the young man away. Mandrake then looked at Owen as a Heliodramon named Daedalus as well as an approaching Trailmon it seemed more help had arrived. The sapphire eyed Wizardmon then said "It's nice to meet all of you. I am Mandrake and the Leomon with me is my fiance Lothar and our youngest child Circe. She is a bit timid but I'm sure she won't mind helping."
Then Lothar's ears flicked as the Leomon turned as head the sight of Adrian's group arriving. So there was a familiar face here. Lothar then said "Adrian! Shoutmon! It's nice to see you again." Then in a joking tone he continued "It's nice to meet with friends in a situation where we aren't being threatened with being kidnapped or consumed." Yes it was true some previous adventues with those two involved two separate shadowy individuals.
Soon Owen announced in a loud voice which made Circe jump a bit while tightening her grip on Mandrake's left hand. This was one of the few times Mandrake was glad that one of his arms were artificial as Circe had quite a grip when she was startled. In a startled state the young shockingly humanish spiderling could probably break a human's hand. Fortunately Circe seemed to calm down pretty quick as the group began to assemble in the courtyard and was now not holding Mandrake's hand in a death grip anymore. She was however peaking out from behind Mandrake looking at Owen with curiosity.
"My super strength might be helpful with tearing the building down and if we work in groups with at least one physically strong digimon in each group then the task shouldn't take too long." Lothar said after taking in what was said about the severity of the damage by Luke. Seemed the Elecmon was an engineer which was helpful for a job like this. Granted Lothar was good at fixing machines but definitely wasn't an engineer by trade. The closest thing the Leomon had to a job was more a security gig as he usually acted much like a bodyguard for Mandrake while the Wizardmon was performing magic for others. Turns out having super strength was handy when it came to things like crowd control. His strength had also been helpful for the pair when they did other jobs around the Digital World.
It seemed like there was some competition between the Falcomon Kohaku and the Agumon Sol. Either that or those two were filled with confidence which was not uncommon for digimon that were fairly young. Mandrake shook his head knowing he was pretty young himself by adult digimon standards and occasionally dealt with being overconfident but he had improved from how he could be when he first went out on his own. This was probably due to himself and Lothar becoming parents and trying to teach four young ones how to be able to at least function on their own.

Whoa, there's a whole lot of entourage here! He thought at first it's just some sort of something... well, something that one or two, or maybe five people can do, but turned out they're going at it for real? Hmmm, should he offer some help perhaps? But really, what can an eight years old do at times like this? He guess more or less he'll gonna get shooed off for trying to help and they thought he's just here to play or something...
"Boy!" a deep voice called out. He knew this voice instinctively. A huge lion man, dwarving a lot of Digimon, walked closer. "Ah, Tou-chan!" He called out. Many might would perhaps get a little bit shocked that this knight of a lion man is actually a father figure for this eight years old.
"These people are constructing. That involves a lot of heavy and dangerous object. Do not wander unsupervised." he warned, firm but definitely tons of care in his voice.
Kabelacedmon looked at Owen. "May I assume that you are the leader of this construction project? Do forgive my young one. He lacks memory, and is easily curious at large gathering such as this. My effort to educate him did not went as smoothly as I wanted in this limited time... but what can I do I guess..."
"They're building school!" the boy happily supplied.
"School...? Academy... seminar?" the lion man crossed his arms. "...I see, it is indeed imperative for the young generation to learn. A very noble cause... Sir Foreman, would this school be a good place for human to learn too? I have heard of a rumor about a place that even a young human could learn in. If this place happened to be it exactly, then I would like to offer my prowess."
"Huh? But what abou---"
Gently, the lion man put a finger over the young boy's lip... which is funny considering how big he is, the tip section of his index finger is as big as the boy's head... either way, he winked a bit.
"Think of it as investment for the future, you can say. Ah, pardon me for the late introduction... I did not have a name, but as my species I go with normally. Kabelacedmon, Leo Seat of Luminous Braves. This one... he's my son. A human he might be, but fate has crossed us together. It haven't been that long, but regardless I took him under my wing in hope that he might find a home to roost on, or probably a path to follow eventually."

Owen was pleased to see more volunteers he knew show up. Adrian and his partner Shoutmon, his students Koharu and Ruri, and an Agumon he had seen around town lately. He welcomed them with a wave.
When his speech was finished, Ruri approached him and asked if they would be better deployed by collecting the wood from the upper levels, given their gift of flight. Owen didn’t know the answer, so he consulted Luke.
“Hmm… well if they can fly, it could be good.” the Elecmon thought out loud. “We don’t want this place to be top-heavy after all… but we have to make sure we don’t collapse the whole thing either. Hmm. Okay, Owen, you can evolve to MachGaogamon, right?”
“I think so, yes.” Owen replied with a smirk. Luke returned it, but continued his line of thought.
“Okay. Once you’ve dealt with most of the bulk of the top floor, then Kohaku and Ruri can help with the rest.” Luke instructed. “That way they can finesse the clearing up of the rotten junk, and be instrumental. We want this cleanup to be thorough, because we want to put in new electrical wires and pipes for the gas and water. And we can’t do that if there’s scraps and fragments remaining that Owen missed.”
“Alrighty, sounds like a plan.” Owen agreed. It seemed that the new arrivals were familiar with each other, with Lothar greeting Adrian and Shoutmon. Owen chose to not ask about the situations in which they were kidnapped or consumed.
Then they were joined by probably the biggest Leomon Owen had ever seen. He would have been about the same height as he was in his Perfect level MachGaogamon form, if not bigger. But he seemed polite, eager to help, and related to the young human child that had joined them, so the Gaomon greeted them warmly.
“Welcome. Ah, I see. I’m sorry to hear that your partner is suffering from memory loss, but we’d be glad to accept his help if he wants to.”
The giant lion digimon then asked if this school would be suitable for humans. Owen was happy enough with a prior meeting to affirm this.
“Yes, in fact our headmistress will be a human with over 10 years of teaching experience.” he answered. “Ms. Lise Hamelin. She is also a chosen with her own partner, so she was happy to accept the position, well, once the schoolhouse is completed. She still has a few weeks in the human world of teaching there before she can arrive.”
The lion digimon introduced himself as Kabelacedmon, Leo Seat of Luminous Braves. Owen thought that was something of a mouthful, but wasn’t going to judge him on it. However, Bellamy spoke up.
“Heya, nice to meet ya. Do you mind if we call you Kabe? Or Kabel? Sorry if I’m comin’ across as a bit casual, but I like to simplify names. Like my own, I’m Bellamy, but I like the nickname Bells for instance. And this is my brother Luke, he’s the brains behind this project. I don’t think we can simplify his name any further.”
“Indeed, that’s not possible.” Luke said. “Well, we’d welcome you and your partner’s assistance in this project, Mr. Kabelacedmon.” he was sure to use his full name until he had permission to say so otherwise. “If you would be so kind, could you please assist by using your strength in loading the rotten wood and junk onto the wagons here?” he pointed to the empty rail wagons awaiting in the siding. He thought that might be the best place for him.
Assuming everything went smoothly, the schoolhouse was steadily stripped clear of all its rotten wood and junk. Owen thus evolved himself to MachGaogamon and would handle the upper floors of most of its burden and carry it to a pile next to the rail siding, where Kabelacedmon would be able to load it onto the wagons.
At the halfway mark, a Trailmon hauled the wagons full of junk away, only to be replaced with another Trailmon, hauling a load of more empty wagons for more junk to be loaded onto, as well as passenger cars, which included a familiar face.
“Ah, Max, Gaz, welcome!” Owen said to the digimon that stepped down from it, hauling containers filled with food.
“Yoo! Heya, kids!” Bellamy said, approaching his son and daughter, offering them both a hug, but was prevented from doing so by both of them pushing their paws to his face.
“Leave it until we’re off the clock, dad, we’ve got lunch to prepare.” Max said. Bellamy pouted, but nodded.
“Heh, okay, ya workaholics, you get to it.” he said, and was glad they didn’t object when he patted them both. Owen for one was glad to see this. He had known for a while that Bellamy had an awkward relationship with his own children, but from this, he saw some genuine progress being made with them.
A bell rang at 1pm, which indicated lunch break. In that time, Max and Gaz had prepared large pots of curry and rice that would be served to everyone in the work crew, with plenty of servings left over. Once everyone was well fed enough for the afternoon, the works would continue, the fresh spring winds blowing through the increasingly bare worksite.
To Owen’s relief, by the evening, the schoolhouse was stripped bare of all its rotting wood and useless junk material. All of this was carried away by regular Trailmon assistance over the day. Now all that remained of the schoolhouse was the foundations, which after a second inspection, Luke declared to be mostly intact and suitable to be used again, with some repair and replacements needed.
“Okay, that’s a wrap for now!” he called to those present, ringing a bell to signify the end of work that day. “Let’s head back to Rosewood. Dinner’s my treat!”
With that, the final Trailmon of the day arrived at the siding, hauling passenger cars for the work crew. Efforts would continue tomorrow. The Gaomon looked at the skeleton of the building that would await that work, and hoped that soon it would be the creation that he wanted.

One thing that those familiar with Adrian would notice right away about him is how different he looks. For one, he had a different style of outfit on today. His usual style up to this point had been a hoodie jacket with a T-Shirt underneath, but today his outfit looked akin to an adventurer's. Not only that, but the previously husky human looked much more fit than he usually did, as if he had spent the last year working out to get into peak physical condition. If one were to look closer at his face, they'd also see that his eyes had turned from blue to yellow. Owen had welcomed both Adrian's group and the birds with a wave, which they each responded in turn. That's when Adrian and Shoutmon would hear a familiar voice calling out to them, who turned out to be none other than their friend Lothar. He joked about how nice it was meeting with friends in a non-life-or-death situation. "Hey, don't count it out quite yet. The day's still young, after all," Shoutmon said, positioning his fist towards Lothar for a fist bump, as well as waving to Owen afterwards. "Oh yeah, this guy with us is Sol. He's an Agumon we saved from a group of mercenaries."
"It's nice to meet you!" Sol said to Owen and Lothar both, smiling as wide as he could. "Both of you joined in on a few of Shoutmon's adventures. It must've been so cool working with him! What was it like?""He's... a big fan of Shoutmon's," Adrian simply explained as he sweat-dropped. That's when the biggest Leomon that either Adrian's or Kohaku's group had ever seen, who revealed his name to be Kabelacedmon ( "There's no way I'll remember that name," Shoutmon privately told Adrian.) Kabelacedmon was accompanied by the same human kid that Kohaku, Ruri, and Takashi had all met that one time at the marketplace. The Falcomon and Biyomon both would give a small wave to the human kid, if he remembered them, at least. "Try not to cause another stampede this time, alright?" Kohaku asked the boy in a half-joking tone. Takashi then laid eyes on Owen's Renamon companion, and those same eyes practically shape-shifted into hearts. The lovestruck Karatenmon fluttered over to the vulpine ex-sergeant with all the confidence in the world, gently grabbing her hands and putting them together as he got onto one knee. "You and I were meant to be! Please tell me your name, most beautiful Digimon in the whole Digital World!" And once she did... "A name just as beautiful as your face... the girl of my dreams! Yes! Come with me!"
"Sorry, you need to come with me," Ruri said, butting in and pulling Takashi away from Renamon, the Karatenmon crying in agony of being taken away from his one true love ( "My darling!") Outside of that, things more or less went smoothly during the first day of the reconstruction process. All present would make use of their wide array of skills to get the rotten wood all taken out, from Ruri using her magic spells to Shoutmon and Sol using their weapons combined with their impressive strength. Adrian had assumed he wouldn't be able to contribute as much without getting tired or annoyed, but to his surprise, he was actually making a very noticeable contribution to removing the rotten wood. He didn't even realize how fast the day had gone until 1 pm came and the bell rang for lunch. As expected of Shoutmon, he was eating his curry dish at a rapid pace, with Sol mimicking his eating habits. Kohaku had started off eating normally but he too found himself consuming the curry and rice as a fast pace. "Brother, you mustn't be so rude when eating in public," Ruri scolded him. "I'm not harming anyone doing this," Kohaku said, trying to defend himself. "Compared to Shoutmon and Sol, Kohaku's a very neat eater," Adrian said with a chuckle. "But your sister does have a point, you know. The three of you might wanna slow down before you choke or get the hiccups."
And once everyone was finished eating, it was back to work they all went. Everything still went smoothly, aside from a couple moments where Shoutmon accidentally struck his own foot with his weapon and hopped around the schoolyard in a comedic fashion, or when Ruri sneezed while flying, causing her to lose concentration and fall from the sky. She would've landed hard on the ground had she not thought to cast a levitation spell on herself at the last second. After all was said and done, all that's left of the school were the foundations, which the Elecmon Luke had deemed to be able to be used again, with some repairs needed. Owen called a wrap for the day, and the Trailmon had arrived to pick up the work crew. The group said their goodbyes to everyone as they headed for the Trailmon, with Adrian and Kohaku staying behind a bit longer to say more personal goodbyes with Owen. "You've got something going here with the school, Owen. With a few more days like today, the school will be finished in no time.""Thank you for letting my family and I help today, Mr. Owen. The school's going to be our school once it's finished, so we just wanted to be able to help actually make it, you know? And uh, sorry about my uncle's weird behavior this morning..."

When Shoutmon posed for a fist bump Lothar smiled before returning the fist bump. Then when Sol was introduced Lothar said "It's nice to meet you, Sol. I am Lothar and with me is my husband Mandrake and our youngest child Circe."
"Don't any of you mind Circe. She is somewhat timid but Lothar and I have been working on trying to get her to come out of her shell more often." Mandrake said contributing to the conversation. Then when a Leomon even bigger than Lothar that called himself Kabelacedmon Mandrake was admittedly impressed. As for Circe the little one snuggled into Mandrake's back as if the larger lion was a bit much for her to handle. Still Mandrake approached Kabelacedmon with Circe practically clinging to his back and all before he said "A digimon with a human for a son. I have to admit that is something I myself don't see very often. I can see why you would want to find a school suited for your child as not everybody can homeschool there children."
Then Mandrake raised his hand as if trying to intiate a handshake with the larger Leomon as he then said "As my husband Lothar said my name is Mandrake and the little one hiding behind me is our youngest child Circe."
Afterwards Mandrake and Lothar patiently and quietly listened as instructions started being given out. Then when Luke asked Kabelacedmon if he could use his strength to be of assistance Lothar walked up to them and said "If you need some help involving muscle work I can help as well. That is if you guys wouldn't mind the extra help I could provide."
After some time the bell rang at 1pm indicating it was time for lunch. It was likely there were quite a few hungry digimon making their way to the food. Sure Mandrake's appetite was small compared to most digimon but even he was feeling hungry. Mandrake, Lothar, and Circe got there portions of food before finding a spot to sit down to eat the curry they recieved. While not all digimon were eating politely Circe, like her parents, was sitting and quietly eating her meal. As young as she was she was surprisingly well mannered especially while eating.
Eventually it was evening and the ones who volunteered began saying goodbye and making their way back to Rosewood. Mandrake and his family were planning on staying in a hotel in Rosewood themselves and continuing to help out the next day.

"Partner? No, he is not my partner... as unfortunate as that sounds. I am a lone Digimon who took him under me as my son. The boy needed a parental figure, and seeing how imperative it is for one this young to have one, I assumed role of a paternal figure for him," he clarified.
Still, these Digimons seem to be more acquainted with human matters than he does, so he decided to trust them. "In that case if you do not mind, I do not require any renumeration. I would like to enroll this young one here once this place to study is fully operational."
Name, again...? Come to think of it, Gio have name... "I have tossed my past identity away eons ago to succeed my master, the previous Kabelacedmon... however, I once was someone with the name 'Kal', you can use that to address me if so you please. Your casualness do not bother me at all, good sir. All that I ask is for you to forgive my archaic mannerism meanwhile. It is rare for us of Luminous Braves to mingle with landdwellers for prolonged amount of time. An unprecedented situation needed an unorthodox action in turn."
...A Wizarmon approached him, and apparently, his husband is a Leomon... also a Leomon child. Kabelacedmon was pensive for a minute... but quickly shakes off the feeling and offered a finger for a handshake. His hand was too big after all.
Mmm, cleanup works. It have been a while since he last did this... so long ago, in fact... that it was a blur. He remembered having to do a woodwork as a young Leomon... Rosewood wasn't here then, and he lived with.... with who again? Come to think of it, what caused him to become a gladiator? Regardless, as he reminsced, his hands moved to tear away the dilapidated and rotten woods.
"Tou-chan?"
"Mmm?"
"Nah, you just looked a bit sad."
"Mmmm, no, this is not me being sad, boy. This is simply me being pensive."
"Pensive?"
"Mmm, of a life that I had before I took this mantle and white armor... Heh, you don't get it eh? That's fine. Here," he loaded some of the wood he tore to the boy's hands. "Careful, there might be splinters. I have cut those down but could have missed some. You can carry them to wagon there."
The boy might not look much but he's defintiely stronger than how he looked. Kabelacedmon followed his movement from behind. Gently, he dropped the mound he carried together with the boy's. "...Attaboy. You did great. Let's repeat this for some more time, eh?"
"Sure!"
During the second round, the boy curiously asked. "Say, Tou-chan?"
"Hmn?"
"Why don't you just destroy these rotten woods? Isn't it faster?"
"Heh, indeed it would have been, young one. However, that would be a waste. Rotten as they are, dilapidated and even wet... they can be used for other uses. I think Mushmon and Chamblemon could use them to grow mushrooms. The trees are living being too, boy. Each of them part of system. If you waste them, it's like you're spitting at the worth fo their life. Just because they're weaker than you, or just because they looked like they have no other use doesn't mean that you should just like that disregard the value they offer before they become like this."
"Hee..."
"That's why, you treat them with respect, alright?"
"Yep!"
Kabelacedmon continues to work, at least until they declared it was lunch. The curry was very nice and to his taste. The boy... he have heard that apparently the boy ate like it was some sort of heaven on earth everytime he eats... He saw as his boy's cheeks loosened the moment the curry coated rice entered his mouth. The boy's cheeks reddened in satisfaction, and with a satisfied "mmf" that made people realize how much he enjoyed it... it does make one feel envious and want to eat too.
What a terrifying foodie, Kabelacedmon mused mentally.
One scoop became two, two became three... and albeit the boy didn't eat that fast, he enjoyed every scoop like it was his first, swinging left to right and back again like pendulum. Once he's done, he immediately offered the empty bowl to Max. "...Seconds please! It was so delicious!"
Silently, Kabelacedmon dropped a curry party worth of money in front of Max and Gaz. "...In case other workers wants more because the boy... er... I'm sorry. He's just... very into eating... and apparently it's contagious."
They later resumed the work and Kabelacedmon continues to ensure that he and his son works safely... and finally, it's the end of the work day.
"Ah, it's time? I admit it was quite fun. Do call upon me again if you need assistance on this building, good mandor. As for me and my son... well..." the boy is already conked out, napping on top of Kabelacedmon's shoulder. "Hah hah, looks like it was quite a day work for my boy. I'd have to refuse your kind offer because of that, I'm sorry. I hope you do not mind... Anyway, we'll part here. Until next time!" the lion man raised a hand as a greeting before walking away, back to the Rosewood Hotel.

It seemed that the giant Leomon was not in fact a partner to the young human, but instead was a father figure. “Ah, I see, sorry for making that assumption.” he said, a little embarrassed at making such a prejudgement.
Bellamy and Luke meanwhile were happy to accept the name ‘Kal’ for this giant Leomon. “Okay then, Kal it is!” Bellamy declared.
Owen then gave a smile and a nod in response to Sol, who asked what it was like working with Shoutmon in the past. “Well, he does his best to get the job done, and that’s a value I keep in mind with every digimon I see.” the Gaomon replied, while continuing on with the job that was presented to them. He thought it was nice that Shoutmon was making friends like this, although if it were him, he’d be somewhat wary of how close he wanted to get.
Next, Lt. Renamon was approached by a Karatenmon who immediately began to hit on her. She was rendered speechless for a moment before he was pulled away. She blinked for a few moments before chuckling.
“You’re not bothered by that?” Owen asked her, somewhat bewildered.
“Admittedly I was, but I realize that was how I presented myself in the past, and I feel somewhat ashamed about that.” Renamon answered, remembering how she used her looks to seduce the enemy into lowering their guard.
“Yeah, I feel the same.” Owen sighed, remembering how he often rolled for seduction to get a mission done. “Well, this is a school now, so there’ll be no more of that.” Renamon nodded in agreement.
Overhearing the conversation between Kal and the human boy, Owen thought they had good intentions, as Kal explained that it was better to recycle than discard all this waste.
When the time came for lunch, Max’s curry seemed to be a hit, and the Impmon-X was delighted by this.
“Cheers! You can get it any time you want at my little bro’s restaurant in Rosewood, five doors down from the Trailmon station!” Gaz said, putting her arm around Max’s shoulder with pride.
“Sis, stop that!” Max complained, pushing her arm away, but still felt in a good mood from this reaction to his cooking. “Well, that’s true at least, lunch and dinner only though, can’t promise it for breakfast.”
Despite his base instincts, he waved away Kal and the boy’s money. “Nope, I can’t accept that, I’ve already been paid for makin’ this meal, you save that for later.” he told them. There was no way he’d take money for food already paid for.
With the day’s work done, they returned to Rosewood. Those that accepted would get a hearty meal in Max’s restaurant for dinner. Owen followed through with his offer to pay for everyone’s dinner. It was in this moment he was glad to be married to a King, it cost quite a lot, but it was all for a good cause.
~~~
Owen arrived at the worksite shortly before dawn, travelling by himself, and supposed he wasn’t surprised to see Lt. Renamon still here, watching the sunrise through the trees, seated on the frame of the second floor of the schoolhouse.
“Stayed overnight, right?” Owen asked as he climbed up to join her.
“Well, I’ve got nowhere else to be.” Renamon answered, neutrally. Owen was about to tell her of the dinner they had last night but she cut him off before he could say so. “I need to get used to people again, I’m sure dinner was nice, but I’m sorry, I couldn’t attend.”
“That’s fine.” Owen answered, feeling a little awkward about being left alone with this former enemy, now his colleague. Eventually the silence was broken.
“Do you still smoke, Owen?” Renamon asked, somewhat surprisingly, offering a cigarette. Owen blinked for a few moments before shaking his head.
“No, I don’t like smoking in front of kids.” he replied. “And since I got married, thought it’d be best to give it up altogether.”
“I see, very well. I’ll try to give it up too then.” Renamon stated, giving a sigh, putting the cigarette box away in a pouch she wore around her waist. “It’ll be difficult, back in the DWR days almost everyone had the habit.”
“Yeah, I know.” Owen acknowledged with a nod. “Mellows your nerves and whatnot, but it doesn’t have a place here. I could brew you up a cup of tea instead though if you want, I’ve come to enjoy tea, mainly because of my husband.”
“Well, if you’re offering, I won’t turn it down.” Renamon answered. Before long, after they climbed down from the schoolhouse frame, Owen was boiling a pot of water on a field cooking set, a single use instant campfire device designed for such a thing. From it, he prepared two cups of tea. Renamon accepted hers gratefully. After a few minutes of silence, Owen opened up another line of conversation.
“Now then, when this school’s finished, and you do decide to become teacher, how do you think you’ll run your classes?” he asked. “Like, you’ll be dealing with at least 10 young digimon, and you want to teach them magical combat, right?”
“Yes. I think I’ll mostly teach them internal mental exercises in this regard.” Renamon answered. “Yes, from the outside it might look like doing nothing, but there’s a lot involved in controlling such powers.”
“Yeah, I can understand that.” Owen agreed, taking a sip of tea, glad to tell he had made a good brew from the taste. “I learned how to heal through mental exercises, well, the main motivation came from family… my daughter, Perry, I wanted to heal her from all her troubles so much, I studied healing all I could, became kinda good at it too, but I couldn’t heal her. Don’t worry, she’s still alive, just, has to keep going along with difficulties she was born with.”
Owen had raised a paw when Renamon thought he was saying she had not survived and made a move to comfort him. She was surprised mostly at herself for feeling such sympathy for her former enemy from the old world, but quickly suppressed it.
“I’m sorry to hear that regardless.” Renamon eventually said in reply. More moments passed in silence. Renamon gently blew the surface of her tea so she could sip more of it. Eventually she continued talking. “Well, Owen, if you understand magical combat training yourself, you can trust me that my curriculum will align with that. I’ll tailor each students’ lessons according to their personal requirements, and do the best I can to help them understand their abilities.”
“I’m glad to hear it.” Owen said, with a smile. After they finished their tea, they could hear the sound of Trailmon in the distance.
“So then. What’s on the agenda for today?” Renamon asked, putting down her cup.
“Putting up scaffolding, then getting ready to put the fresh wood in.” Owen answered. The Trailmons would be hauling in the work crew as well as the metal and wood pieces to get the next stage of construction into motion. Going from the speed of yesterday’s work, he was optimistic about how things would go today as well.
Post by Adrian Boriker on Jun 30, 2023 3:55:12 GMT
Adrian and Shoutmon blinked when Lothar had introduced one of his children, when all he could see what Lothar and Mandrake. However, Adrian then noticed something clinging onto Mandrake's back. A spider-like Digimon that neither he nor Adrian had seen before, one that had the appearance of a human girl but with skin and hair that looked a lot like a Wizardmon's. Adrian smiled and got down onto one knee, so that he'd be at the same height as Circe.
"Circe, is it? My name's Adrian Boriker. It's nice to meet you." Of course, Circe had shown signs of being shy as she clung closer to Mandrake's back. Adrian simply chuckled a bit and stood back up. "Yeah, she's definitely pretty shy. I dealt with kids like that when I had a part-time job back in my world."
Meanwhile, Sol was very happy to hear that Owen had a good opinion on Shoutmon overall. Satisfied with the answer, Sol smiled and walked off to go complete his own job. When he had the chance, Shoutmon headed over to talk to Owen quick. "I know what you're thinking, since I thought the same thing. No, he's not one of those stalker fans. He's just a kid from Dragon Valley that wound up hearing about my adventures and I guess got inspired from them. And it's because of me that he ended up in danger before, so I'm just trying to make sure that doesn't happen again."
After Ruri had pulled her uncle away from that awkward situation, she and Kohaku were not all too thrilled as they confronted him about it. "Uncle, why did you have to be all creepy to that nice Renamon?" Ruri asked.
"I couldn't help it!" Takashi declared, his eyes still all but formed into mini hearts. "The way the light shines off of her silky fur, the perfectly sculpted beautiful face... she's the one for me!"
"...maybe we should call Kaito," Kohaku suggested, "since Takashi has clearly lost his mind."
"We'll stop for ice cream afterwards if you don't say a word about this to him."
"Deal."
And with that, the day went on fairly peacefully, aside from a couple minor mishaps here and there. Lunch was eaten with gusto (along with a bunch of staring at the human kid for making the food look that much better) and once the sun started to set, their day was done. Everyone was invited for a free dinner at Max's restaurant, to which all six of this admin's characters had accepted with great joy. The next morning, we find our group of six sitting on the Trailmon as it headed back for the schoolhouse for another day of work. This time, all six were sitting in the same cabin and chatting back and forth as the Trailmon chugged along, strengthening their friendships with each other as well as learning about what they'd all been up to. On the table in between their seats were five light pink boxes.
"So wait... you seriously hit on that Renamon friend of Owen's yesterday?" Adrian asked Takashi and the bird siblings. "And she didn't immediately punch you in the face?"
"I pulled him away before she could do anything," Ruri piped up.
"She's too much of a fair maiden to do something as cruel as that," Takashi said, covering where his heart would be with both of his hands. "It's destiny... her and I were meant to be!"
"You don't even know her, though!" Sol cried out.
"Yeah, what he said."
"You remind me a lot of a certain cartoon character from back in my world," Adrian said as he tried to hold in his laughter. "Does he say this about every other girl he meets?"
"I dunno. That was the first time we saw him talk to a girl besides my own sister."
"Well, remember that there is such a thing as 'boundaries,'" Shoutmon said. "Get too close to someone's personal space without permission and you're lucky if a black eye is the worst you'll get." Of course, Shoutmon had meant for this to also be towards Sol in his head, since the thought of Sol being as clingy as the lovestruck crow had gotten him a bit uncomfortable.
After a while, Shoutmon, Sol, Kohaku, and Ruri had gone over to check out a swarm of Bakemon that was casually flying past the Trailmon, leaving Adrian and Takashi alone to speak. "Shoutmon's son Gem if a friend of those two kids, and he told us that they have a dad that's not a good person," Adrian said. "Would you mind elaborating?"
Takashi's expression grew more somber. "When I met them, I just wanted to know more about them and their family. I got my wish, and it ended up being granted from a twisted monkey's paw. Their grandpa died from a virus that left his body intact after death, then their douchebag father decides to chase after them to add them to his pirate crew. Bastard thinks he's entitled to them since they're his kids, according to them."
"Of course it's pirates..." Adrian muttered. "Shoutmon and I dealt with them before. I watched as a Buraimon swooped down and kidnapped both my partner and someone I considered to be a little sister to me."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Takashi said in a sympathetic tone. "Still, it was just lucky that they managed to stumble into me and my brother Kaito -- you know him, right? -- before their jerk of a dad came into the picture. And my brother, he adopts them right then and there, and who could blame him? So we pooled our money together and bought a house in Rosewood. And believe me, we'll be ready if their rotten pirate father ends up finding them. We come from a long line of ninjas, after all."
"Well, you and Kaito definitely seem formidable enough to keep those two safe from harm," Adrian said with a smile. "Even if you seem a bit eccentric."
"You wound me, Adrian," Takashi said with a chuckle. "I'd love to get to know more about your story with your partner and that Sol kid, but judging from the landscape outside, I'd say we're close to arriving at the schoolhouse."
"Oh yeah, you're right... come on, we better get ready, then."
Post by ricochet6-Mandrake on Jun 30, 2023 4:52:30 GMT
Mandrake and Lothar quietly watched as Lt. Renamon was hit on by the Karatenmon now known as Takashi. The couple said nothing as he was already receiving a talking to by enough people that neith Mandrake nor Lothar had to add to it. As for Circe she was nervously peaking out from behind Adrian who had knelt down to introduce himself but she merely reponded with a nervous and shy squeak however Mandrake noticed that her focus was on the human and those that came with him so it was obvious she at some level was curious of them. In that regard this was definitely proof she was far more like Mandrake than the Arukenimon that helped spawn her only to later abandon her to die.
"Yes Adrian unfortunately Circe is very shy and I fear that may be the result of the trauma she endured before she was abandoned. See Adrian while Circe does share data with me she doesn't share any with Lothar but not for a reason many humans would immediately think. See before Circe was born I was kidnapped by an Arukenimon while wondering in a town. Arukenimon sealed me in some device that was sucking my life force from me and she was going to use my data to create an army of hatchlings. However her plans didn't work out do to Lothar coming to my rescue in the nick of time. However it was clear later that Arukenimon drew off enough of my data to produce one egg which later hatched into Circe. Apparently Circe was beaten and abandoned to die by Arukenimon when it was clear the young rookie spider child was more like me than Arukenimon. So basically Circe is what one would call gentle and kindhearted by nature. Due to Arukenimon's abuse she seems not comfortable around adult females sadly." Mandrake said explaining Circe's origins before he then continued "Lothar and I learned she didn't have a name when we found her so after deciding to take her in we chose her name."
Meanwhile Lothar had a random thought enter his mind while it was clear that Lt. Renamon wasn't all that put off by Takashi's actions. Mandrake looked in his husband's direction before he asked "Something on your mind, old friend?" Yes while many married couples referred to their significant others by cute nicknames like sweetie or honey Mandrake continued to call Lothar by old friend like he did long before the two got married.
"I just had the random thought that if this Takashi was this flirtatious with Lt. Renamon then how would he react to other Renamon especially if, let's say, you and I have a Renamon child in the future." Lothar said a faint sign of amusement appearing in his brown eyes amidst the signs of concern as well.
"Well given your side of the family's proclivity for become just about any digimon at least once I don't think I would be surprised by any species we could potentially have as a child." Mandrake said.
"And whether they have super strength, mental powers, or not I am willing to bet that ice cream mentioned that all of our offspring will be magical children to some degree or another." Lothar said with a light chuckle which caused Mandrake to smirk in amusement as well.
Later-----
The next day shortly before dawn Mandrake, Lothar, with a still sleeping Circe riding piggyback on the Leomon clinging to him like she were Spiderman. The fact that she could cling to surfaces awake or asleep on its own merit was admittedly an impressive talent for a digimon of any age. Soon the family had caught sight of Owen just arriving at the worksite. Mandrake began approaching Owen and by extension Lt. Renamon and with a smile said "I see Lothar and I weren't the only early risers today." Mandrake was silent throughout the entire interaction between Owen and Lt. Renamon regarding the fact that the Renamon had offered the Gaomon a cigarette. Apparently Owen once did smoke, not that Mandrake was one to judge for something so small, but didn't smoke anymore. Apparently Owen had given up smoking all together when he got married. "Whoever you married must of been worth it if you were willing to give up smoking in such an abrupt manner, Owen. Maybe one day Lothar and I will meet your significant other."
Then when mentioning magical training Mandrake said "Perhaps when this school is finished being built I should consider enrolling any of my children who show interest in attending here. More Circe than the three older ones more for helping her interact with others than the magic training but both would be beneficial for a shy spider child like herself."
When hearing about the agenda for the day Mandrake sighed as he glanced down at where Lothar and Circe still were before he said "I may not be the best digimon to have around in matters of brute strength but I am willing to help out where I can when helping with this scaffolding. Though I would say Lothar and, perhaps, Circe would have an easier time with this type of work than I would."
