Love her like a rock (Spirit Hunt, Closed)

Screaming was a proper response, albeit a rare one to come from the schizophrenic girl... of course, considering she was changing into a rock monster in a void when she was in a field a few seconds ago, having found an unusual statue, this was not exactly the improper one either.
She'd taken everything fine, really. She'd curled up into a tiny ball in the back of the train when she realized it wasn't a conductor she'd been holding conversation with on the lengthy trip. She'd started using a paper bag when she saw the massive tear in the digital sky, exposing the code and data the world was composed of. She'd hidden behind Mana after realizing that attractive grown man was, in fact, a real angel and not just dressed like one. Finally, she ran when her digivice beeped, choosing to look for her partner before anything else happened.
Now she was in a simple grassland. Blue skies above, green grass below, the tear out of her site while the city remained visable for quick returns back to the human world. He mind was finally free as she began to lay down on the ground, blinking as she heard a voice in her head, nagging her. "HEY! Hey kid! Hey, why aren't you listening?" Asked the gravelly, but still clearly female voice in her head. "Look at the 'vice, kid! I'm close by!" Taking a few deep breaths, Carrie just took out her meds and a bottle of water, downing them to rid of it in a few minutes.

This trip had been a total blast! At least for Mana. Yeah, maybe Carrie was even more scaredy than Yuu, but excepting that, the trip had been pretty uneventful so far. The trailmon ride was rather bland, no roller-coaster thingy involved, and they even reached Terminus City afterwards! She hoped some strange destiny, like a jungle or a tundra, but it was just your boring, everyday digital city. Right, Carrie was also too scared of digimon, even though she told her yesterday that they weren’t many humans inhabiting this world. Then, following Carrie’s strange digivice, the trio ended on a your everyday, boring digital plain. Mana was just to scream “BORING!” when she noted that Carrie seemed to be rather distraught and the way she took her pills.
“You haven’t talked in a good while, Carrie-san” she said cautiously. Carrie didn’t take her usual tone well “Why are you taking your stuttering medicine? Or you’re not talking because your stuttering is too severe?” she made a split second pause, not really expecting any answer “Anyway, any clue on your partner yet? We have been searching on this plain for a while now, so it must be really close, I can feel it!”

"Stuttering? I... um... I-it's nothing..." She blinked, sitting up and looking at her digivice. Looking in the direction it pointed, she found nothing more than a pile of large rocks. "...Can Digimon be rocks too? A-as well as humans?" She asked, sighing as she found she wasn't going to have her heart calm down that easily. "I... my medicine isn't for stuttering, Mana... I don't think they have that invented anyway. I-I... We're not good enough friends for you to know what it's for, y-yet... I mean... y-you know what I mean."
"I think my partner's over there..." She pointed to the large pile of rocks, blinking as she wondered if Ayaka was enjoying herself as much as she and her partner was.

As Carrie talked, Mana listened attentively at what the girl said. She had a point, but she was wrong in something too.
“Actually, Carrie-san, stuttering is a developmental disorder that many experts agree has a strong neurological component. The three most popular drugs that are used for treating it are Alprazolam, Citalopram, and Clomipramine, and they three have different side effects depending on the patient” most likely Carrie was eyeing her as if she were a freak, so she quickly explained “Oh, I know because my father’s a teacher, and a teacher that stutters just won’t do. Luckily, the treatment was rather effective on him. Maybe you should try it too?
She choose not to address the rest of the girl’s speech, as she wasn’t really interested on knowing what medication she did take, at least until she trusted her with that information… and, so her partner was under a pile of rocks? It sounded weird, but hey, digieggs could spawn anywhere.
“Well, maybe he’s just an egg or he’s rather small and that’s why it can be under those rocks. Ayaka, Are you ready?
The little Cormon, sighed with something akin to defeat
“A lady shouldn’t get her hands dirty with this kind of work, but I guess that if it’s for Carrie-san’s partner, it'll be alright”
“Okay, let’s get this started then!”
The two then began pushing the rocks away, with care, as it would be a tragedy if the pile collapsed and crushed what was beneath.

"I... let's move on..." She said after the long and weird explanation. She made a mental note to ask her therapist about them, though. "I-if it was an egg, how come it didn't show up in the human world... a-and if my partner's supposed to hatch when I show up why would it be able to climb into the rock pile?"
She approached the rocks beside the little girl, beginning to dig and taking a deep breath as the voice in her head began cheering her on. "Yes! Yes! Come on kid, you can do it! Comoooooncomooooncomooooon, you're so close! I love rocks but this is a bit too much for even me!" Carrie continued to remain silent as she dug through the rubble, getting annoyed at this new voice in her head as she got closer and closer. "...Oh, I see. You're giving me the cold shoulder. You're just PRETENDING you don't hear me. I know you can hear me Carrie! We were meant to be together!"
As the voice rambled on and on she took a deep breath and moved the final rock, exposing a moderately sized bust on a pedestal. The bust looked to be made of the same stone it was buried in, sitting in a closed-up position as if it was huddling against something. "...Mana, over here... I-I found something." She said, climbing down from the pile so the little girl could see for herself.

As the trio started to dig, Carrie started to uncover what seemed to be a pedestal that had a strange bust, which was… hugging something? Weird Stuff.
“What’s supposed to be that?” the girl asked to nobody in particular while she scratched her head.
“Well, it seems to be some sort of sculpture, miss Mana. Maybe what is holding has to do with Carrie-san’s partner?” offered the little onion Digimon “To be honest, I haven’t ever seen such a strange place for an egg to be… but to be honest, I haven’t seen much eggs on my life, either”.
Mana tilted her head pensively, her brown gaze fixating on the strange statue. Maybe it was some kind of trap? Nah, that would be something a fourteen year old American exchange student who had read too much comic books on his life would think. This was the Digital World, and things here were as real as one would think
“Well, Carrie-san, what are you waiting for? Go get it! He’s just calling for you!” she cheered the girl. This would be most likely a pivotal moment on her life, and most likely needed every ounce of morale she could give to her.

She stared at the statue, confused. As she listened to the two discuss the unusual object, she was naturally hesitant to reach out for it. Mana's last statement "he's just calling for you" worried her a lot. Was she hearing the voice too? Or was she speaking metaphorically? She turned around to ask this question, but found she lost her balance from doing it so fast. As she fell backwards into the rocks she clutched her head to prevent herself from injury... that's when she landed on the statue. She was out of Mana's view now, inside the pile of rocks something was beginning to unfold... and it was shiny.
Carrie felt an odd sensation, like she was floating in the middle of a large tunnel, like a waterside or a zero gravity chamber, as she tried to move around, she just found herself back in the same location by unusual forces. As she noticed her right hand had a line of data circling it, she looked confused and disturbed. She felt, as if on instinct, like something inside her was telling her how to do this, she took out her Digivice and ran it across the data, the series of lines sparking violently as she ran it across. She flinched and looked away as she felt a numbing sensation overcoming her.
As she thought it was finished she suddenly felt herself constrict to an unusual stance. Her legs splayed out and her arms held out, as if motioning for a hug. As she felt her head held upward by something, she opened her mouth to scream, but nothing but light came from the opening. As she saw some kind of series of armor begin to constrict itself to her body in certain parts, grow from other parts, and her entire size and shape begin contorting into a new form, she didn't feel any pain, just fear.
To the observer outside they would only be able to see several bright rays of light, each coming from an even bigger source inside the massive cluster. As the bright lights grew more and more powerful, they would hear Carrie screaming in horror the entire time, until the entire pile collapsed, leaving nothing but silence.

Carrie seemed to turning to her to say something until she lost her balance and was going downwards to where the statue was. With her vision obstructed, Mana wondered if it would be alright for her to enter there and see if the girl was alright or not. But what she saw was pretty blinding light coming from that place and then rather soundly screams that were indoubtedly, Carrie’s
“You think she’s fine, Ayaka?” Mana asked absentmindedly, she knew that Carrie was most likely to scream a good deal when she finally met her partner. But this just seemed… too much.
“Yeah, she will be fine. Probably she is just terrified at her partner’s appearance, that’s all. Not even all newborn digimon are cute, miss Mana. You can’t imagine how… not aesthetically pleasing some of them are. And that’s not only in appearance. Some have nasty habits too”
But then, as Ayaka finished her speech, the rocks in which Carrie was caved in and creepy silence soon followed. Mana looked with a perplexed expression at the pile of rock rubble and a good five seconds after, she finally dared to speak.
“Carrie-san?! Are you there?! Please, answer me, Carrie-san!"
She really hoped the girl was alright.

Moans and groans of pain emerged from the rubble, something in the rocks shifting as Carrie tried to get up. pushing the rocks that were covering the daylight before her, she wiped off her face as she approached Mana. As Carrie was climbing out of the rocks her voice sounded radically different to anyone present, turning from a normal voice for a British girl she had before to the voice of an elderly woman with a smoking problem identical to the one Carrie'd heard before.
While one may argue that dragging this out like this is unneeded because we already know what she looks like, I think the revelation of something, even if it is already well known, can be just as dramatic and shocking as the day it was first exposed if done right. Everyone knew Norman Bates was the killer, but you were still terrified by his mother's corpse in the basement. Everyone knows Rosebud was a sled but that doesn't mean the build-up and tension were for naught. Missus Voorhees was the killer, Snape kills Dumbledore, the woman in The Crying Game was a man, all exceptional plot-points even if you knew what they were beforehand. Now that I've ruined the shocking twists in the works of literature and film everyone else already knew, let's move on.
Carrie climbed out into the sunlight, being blinded by it as she moved her large stony hand before her face. Mana would notice the creature that emerged was shorter than her and lacked any of Carrie's defining feature. But when she began talking and stuttering, it was quite clear what had happened... how it happened, however, would be something the three of them would need to work out. "Wh-what happened? I-I'm fine... I-I think..." To Carrie it sounded like she still had her old voice, and other than her dry mouth, she didn't really feel different either.

Mana’s jaw dropped to the floor as she saw what seemed to be a Digimon entirely made of rocks emerging from where Carrie was. Pointing her D-3 at that, she got the info about the mon. So, it was a Gotsumon, and somehow carried ha transformed into it. It was… so rad!
“Carrie-san!” she squealed as she hugged her “You look awesome! You have to totally teach me how you just did that! Don’t you think the same, Ayaka?” As Mana flooded Carrie’s ears with a waves and waves a compliments and irrational proposals, Ayaka seemed to be quite thoughtful about this.
“So… It seems that legends weren’t that surreal after all… I’ve never seen a human turning into a Digimon before” she said with a somewhat dubious tone on his voice.
"She can reverse it, right?"
"Well, maybe that's why it is not heard enough, actually... maybe humans who can turn themselves in Digimons eventually forget everything they knew about their past lives and live forever as Digimons"
Mana shuddered at how Ayaka seemed to throw that line so carelessly.
"Ayaka!" the girl scolded "Don't say those mean things to Carrie-san! I'm sure that we'll find a way to revert her back to normal!".

Moaning and trying to get re-oriented, she didn't notice the little girl rushing her until she felt she was being hugged by someone her same size. The fact she had Mana's voice was not exactly comforting either. "Huh? Wh-what? I d-did I do something?" She asked, opening her eyes and looking around. "...M-Mana, h-how'd you get so tall?" She asked, worried as the little girl kept asking her confusing and misleading statements. As she was finally able to here Ayaka it just confused her further. "W-what?! T-turning into Digimon a-are you cra-?" She was cut off when she finally saw that her hand had turned into a three-fingered series of rocks.
As she gently pushed Mana aside, she looked over her body with mixed emotions. Mostly horror and confusion, thankfully unable to communicate in any way besides small gasps and stutters. She looked hopeful at Mana's question, really hoping she could return to her human form... until Ayaka talked about leaving her past life. At which point she began swaying back and forth and fainted.

“Ayaka!” Mana scolded again as Carrie fainted “This is all your fault! You should have not mentioned that mean stuff at least until she had taught me how to transform! Damn…” As Mana discarded all the mental possibilities that her mind had created about what could he do if she could turn into a digimon, Ayaka began to work on the ground beneath them. Using her Wood Spirit’s Song, she shaped a bedlike parchment of grass and placed the now unconscious Carrie-Gotsumon in there. And while it was at it, she also shaped some chairs and a table, and even some tableware.
Mana sighed, but decided to take seat. She brought out from her backpack two cups and some teabags and did what every sane person in her place would do: start a tea party with her digimon!
“Do you think Carrie-san will wake up soon enough?” the girl asked while she was preparing her tea.
“She will just have to get over the initial shock. Maybe she will devolve while she sleeps and think that everything was just a bad dream… Also, this tea is fantastic, miss Mana. Can we have more at home?”
“Yeah, sure. Wait, wait... why do you said she’ll devolve? You said that she wouldn’t be able to come back on purpose?”
“More or less, miss Mana. Look, maybe I am a lady, but even ladies have vices… Mine, for example” she said while whistling innocently “Is that I am just too curious for my own good” she said while she had in her branches Carrie’s medicine bottle “She would have noticed if I had done this while she was awake… so I had to employ desperate measures… At least now I know what are these”.

The medicine was, naturally, her schizophrenia medicine. The generic-named medication came in small capsules filled with powder, and weren't actually all that exciting. Really, if they had no clue what the medicine was for in the first place they'd probably have no clue why she was carrying it or why she used it so often, even if they knew it wasn't painkillers or hallucinogens it would be a pretty unimpressive revelation. Reality sure sucks sometimes, doesn't it kids?
Anyway, As Carrie lay on the grass bedding, her consciousness was meeting with the Gotsumon's inside her already confused and muddled psyche. As the girl panicked and looked around the manifestation of her inner mind (a crowded diner, stuffed to the brim with busy waitstaff, a confused chef, and all sorts of... alien creatures holding discussions in other stalls), she found the door had been locked behind her and she was stuck in this truck-stop hell. Now, this may be because the writer had watched one too many Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but I needed a plot-point and a Twin Peaks-esque diner/dream sequence seems to be the only solution. Anyway, she noticed the Gotsumon waving her over, smiling as she approached.
"Ah! Thanks kid! I owe you one for getting me out of that statue..." She began, smiling happily as a waitress set a cup of coffee before the two. The Gotsumon grabbed it immediately. "Are all human's minds like this? ...Eh, that's not important. Listen, there's gonna be a lotta things I need to explain but lemme give you a quick rundown. You and me are souls, right? You have a soul, I have a soul... but I don't got a body. Soooo I'm bunking with you for a while. Now before you start freaking out, lemme explain that this is a good thing for the both of us."
Carrie was silent and looked absolutely terrified as the Gotsumon continued. "I'll have a new body, which is good for me. You have a new friend, which is good for you. I'll be able to see the world again, good for me. You'll be able to take my form and use it to defend yourself against anyone who's trying to rough you up, which is good for you. Of course, ya gotta learn to power down too... and you're on your own there, kid. You'll be finding others like me too to help you out, once they think you're worthy. Until then, you and I are gonna be the bestest of buddies! I'll chime in on occasion to check up on you. You seem to be waking up, so sorry I couldn't get ya anything..." Carrie looked down and saw herself vanishing as the Gotsumon kept talking and going on.
Of course, Carrie woke up with a start in the digital world, gasping and panting.

As Carrie was forcibly brought back at the reality, Ayaka did a pretty job at returning the pill bottle to where it was before she stealthily stole it. Mana, very aware of the gambit, quickly stood up and went to hug Carrie (again).
“Carrie, you woke up!” she said again cheerfully “We’ve found some pretty neat stuff out, you have to hear it out!”
As she waited for Carrie to recover from her fainting before she gestured to the tea “table” and the spare chair. She too took seat while she waited and poured some tea for the older girl. “Okay, the good news are that your change is reversible! Yay!” Mana told her cheerily “But the bad news is that you can’t teach me. That’s so non-yay. Anyway, do you want something with your tea? I have some biscuits and other stuff, so maybe that way it won't be as bland to you"
Then Ayaka intervened "It seems that you got a somewhat rare type of digievolution. Instead of a partner, you evolve yourself into a digimon. So I was more or less right, you're indeed special. You can consider yourself lucky... or not"

Reluctantly accepting the hug, Carrie was none-the-wiser... considering she had no clue where her stuff went during this transformation anyway. "Uh... I... um... thank... you?" She was, naturally, confused at this change in pace as she got up, blinking as she looked back at the bed she'd been set on and the chair she was likely to crush by being... you know, a rock. Carefully climbing onto the grass seat, feeling really weird being so short again, she took her tea. "Um... reversible... reversible is g-good... how do I...?" She was cut-off by the not learning part, however.
"...I'll have some sugar and biscuits, th-thank you..." She was still slightly jittery, listening to Ayaka. "A r-rare digivolution? I... but I don't want to be a digimon... I-I didn't even want to know about this place..." She was getting worried again and continued her deep breathing... "M-maybe I should tell you something... Ayaka... Mana, I-I don't want to sound rude b-but I'd prefer if me and Ayaka talked alone..."
