Two siblings are unpacking in their new home. They moved to Japan for a new start and fun times. However, they are going to get a lot more than they could have ever expected.
Dante: Here we are. Ready for the next challenges life will throw at us.
Judith: You know, this is the first time we both lived in Japan since we were very young. I'm glad we can see each other every day now.
Dante: Me too. It's great knowing we are so close. I know we didn't have a normal childhood, but you know how Dad is.
Judith: Haha! He's too hard headed for his own good. But even if we didn't get to see them very often, I know our parents only wanted the best for us.
Dante: They have no idea what's best for us. But we are here now, and we can control our own lives now.
Judith: Whatever Dante. You can be grumpy. I am going to go get lunch. Cya soon, bro.
Dante: Later, sis.
Judith grabs her nap sack and the keys to the car. She walks over and opens the door. The rays from the morning sun illuminate the room. Judith turns back and looks at Dante.
Judith: Here's to new beginnings in a place we have long since forgotten.
Judith shuts the door and drives off in the car. Dante continues unpacking for a bit. Going through some old boxes he finds a picture from his childhood of him and a girl with long black hair. Dante tries to recall who it is, but growing up he had to leave people and places very often. Seeing this picture makes Dante frustrated. He puts the picture back in the box and puts the boxes away. Dante is starting to feel hungry, but there is little food in the house, and Judith has not returned with food yet. Dante grabs a cigarette and goes to the backyard to smoke. The birds are chirping, and the wind blows by. While standing outside smoking, Dante is deep in thought. He thinks about his friends from the past an how he may never see them again. Dante hears a voice coming from his right.
Girl's Voice: Excuse me, are you Dante?
Dante: Yes, What's up?
A well dressed girl about Dante's age walks up. She has a private school uniform on and long black hair, with several braids and ponytails.
Sakiko: My name is Sakiko. We we friends when you lived here many years ago.
Dante: Wow that's amazing! It's good to see you again.
Sakiko: Yes, it appears fate has a wicked sense of humor. You see, I have something to give you. Follow me back to my house.
Dante: Um, alright.
Dante follows Sakiko to her house. Dante isn't sure, but he feels like he has been here before. Sakiko opens the door and they go to the kitchen.
Sakiko: Grampa! You'll never guess who is here!
An old man walks out. He has a long white beard and is wearing a baseball t shirt.
Sakiko: Dante, this is my Grandfather, Hisao. Grampa, this is Dante, the boy from when I was a young child.
Hisao: Ah, what a joy to see you have returned!
Dante: Wait, you know who I am?
Hisao: Oh, I know a lot more than you think, boy. My lovely Granddaughter spoke of you often for years after you left.
Sakiko: Grampa! I'm sorry to be disrespectful, but shut up!
Hisao: Ah ha ha ha! Oh Sakiko. This is a glorious day! The lost child has returned!
Dante: Uh, I wasn't lost. I was eating pizza and pasta in Italy.
Hisao: Ah, but you see, There's something you do not yet know. Sakiko, grab it.
Sakiko: Yes, Grampa.
Sakiko leaves the room and goes upstairs.
Hisao: Now I know this is going to sound crazy. No, in fact this makes crazy talk sound like rational thinking. You see Dante, there is an entire world out there that only a select few will ever know about.
Hisao: Listen well, everything will make sense later on. What I'm talking about is Digimon. Digital Monsters that range from small and insignificant, to Digimon that determine the fate of both worlds.
Dante: Ha! I'm not falling for any of your shady tricks, old man. You're just after my family's money.
Hisao: What the? No! So this is the way the young generation talks to their elders. No, Digimon are real. Heck, Digimon are more real than that dyed hair of yours.
Dante: Dyed?! My hair is naturally as red as a barn.
Hisao: Of course. Now, what were we talking about? Ah yes, Digimon. You see, young Dante, you have a Digimon partner waiting for you. You will become a tamer.
Dante: Tamer? So Digimon are lions?
Hisao: No! There's no lion Digimon.
Sakiko walks back into the room with a large egg.
Sakiko: What about Leomon, Grampa?
Hisao: That's, uh, not what I meant.
Dante: Sakiko, your grandfather is a nutbar.
Sakiko: No, he's telling the truth. Or are you incapable of trusting someone?
Dante: Bunch of loons...
Sakiko: Grampa, he's not listening.
Hisao: Dante, just listen. Take the egg. I know all of this seems bizarre, but everything will make complete sense.
Dante: Well, okay. I guess this is kind of interesting.
Sakiko hands Dante the egg. When Dante's hands touch the egg, it starts to glow.
Dante: What's happening?!
Sakiko: Oh my god, it's hatching!
Leafmon has hatched!
Dante: What is this green blob?
Hisao: It is a Digimon. One day you will be working together to defend our world, and the Digital World from the forces of evil.
Dante: This thing can fight?!
Sakiko: It's still a baby. Just give it time. Ah yes. Grampa, aren't you forgetting something? The Digivice?
Hisao: Ah yes. I mean, oh no! I lost Dante's Digivice years ago.
Sakiko: All tamers have a digivice. This allows the energy of the tamer to flow into the Digimon. If you don't have a digivice, I don't think Leafmon can digivolve.
Dante: So you mean I'm stuck with this slimeball?
Leafmon: Who you calling slimeball, fluffy?
Dante: Oh my God this thing friggin talks!
Leafmon: That's right. I'm Leafmon! Took you long enough to come for me.
Hisao: Dante moved away before his egg was ready. For now you do not have a digivice, but if it is truly meant to be, it will find you.
Sakiko: This is all a shock to you. Take Leafmon home and watch over him.
Dante: Well, okay. But I can't believe all this is happening. I've never heard of anything this extraordinary happening.
Hisao: Relax, Dante. Your heart weighs heavy, and your head overanalyzes everything. But one day you will find the inner peace you seek. Goodbye for now, young Dante.
Sakiko and Dante leave and walk back to Dante's house.
Dante: Oh no, the car is in the driveway. Judith is back. I can't let her see Leafmon.
Sakiko: Keep him hidden and close by. Trust me, don't let your guard down. I have a very bad feeling about Leafmon.
Dante: Will do. But this is all happening so fast.
Sakiko: I know, Dante. But you will figure it out. Try to relax today. Come back to my house early tomorrow morning. And Dante, it was so great to see you again.
Sakiko kisses Dante on the cheek and walks home trying to hide a bashful smile. Dante walks around the the backyard and goes inside. He grabs a towel and wraps it around Leafmon. Dante puts Leafmon in his room and walks to the kitchen. Judith is standing there.
Judith: Well what took you so long? The burgers are getting cold.
Dante: I ran into an old friend. It was, strange.
Judith: That's cool. Oh wait, before we eat, check out the garden.
Dante and Judith walk outside to check out the garden. The bag of cheeseburgers is left unguarded on the counter. Leafmon hops along the floor, and tries to find a way up the counter. He goes to the other side and sees some boxes that were left out. He hops on the boxes and up to the counter, and jumps right into the bag of cheeseburgers.
Dante: Hey Judith, what would you say if I told you something unbelievable? Like, so ridiculous there's no way any reasonable person would believe it. But we are close, and you trust me, right?
Judith: If it was that crazy, I still wouldn't believe you, Dante. You have a wild imagination.
Dante: Well then I won't tell you.
Judith: Okay fine. So I'm thinking about growing carrots, but I want to have room for strawberries. Actually I need to put the strawberries in their own area.
Dante: I know what you would plant if you could.
Judith: Oh shut up you smart alec. Let's eat. There's plenty of Japanese TV shows we have never seen.
Judith and Dante walk back into the kitchen, where they find the bag of burgers moving.
Judith: Oh no my burgers!
Leafmon pops out of the bag.
Dante: Oh s***! Judith, this is Leafmon.
Judith: I don't care what that creepy thing is! Now you have to go pick up more burgers.
Dante: Where can I find decent burgers in Japan?
Judith: Just head North and take the 2nd left, not the 1st but the 2nd. Ah hell, you're too forgetful. Give e your phone and I will put it in your GPS.
Dante: Thanks for the vote of confidence.
Judith: Shut up and get more burgers! And take that thing with you!
Dante grabs Leafmon and the car keys. He goes outside and gets in the car.
Dante: Okay, Leafmon. We got stuff to do so you have to behave, got it?
Leafmon: Don't tell me what I have to do, stinky breath.
Dante: I hate my life.
