"Nah. You're tested on-the-job, so you'll either pass with flying colors or get eaten. No notes necessary," Maia half-teased, as she walked through the large gates that protected the city. Of course, it was only half, because it was a literal risk to get eaten by a Digimon. She hadn't met one capable of it yet, but who knew? After all, it wouldn't be the first time, surely. For all she knew, some of these creatures could be waiting to try to inhale an unsuspecting victim.
Moving carefully, the girl made sure not to step too far away from Marshal. In fact, she was keeping relatively close, and kept on edge enough that if he moved too suddenly in one direction, she could stop him. Of course, the culture-shock was entirely possible, as many Digimon crowded the area, wandering around. Some stopped at shops that were along the paths. Others could seem completely lost, or even like businessmen in a city. A Dogmon excitedly barked with a friend, making wide gestures, while a Brachimon lowered his head to fit it under a banner that most of the other monsters wouldn't have even noticed.
Luckily, it seemed none of the creatures even noticed the humans walking into the area. Maybe, they were just used to it by now. After all, it did seem like there were a fair share of tamers and spirit users. They had to all show up here at some point, didn't they?
The tamer had to pause, allowing a yellow Nyaromon to bound past without being squished. At least it was still early enough that there wasn't too much of a rush with all of the creatures. "Welcome to Terminus City," Maia started, throwing a glance to the newcomer. "Anything look interesting to you?"

Marshal was like a kid in a candy store looking around at the new city. It was absolutely huge. Shops and buildings were everywhere along the bustling streets, but that wasn't what Marshal was necessarily excited about. There were different types of Digimon everywhere of all different shapes and sizes.
"This place is incredible," he breathed, unable to take it in all at once. If he wasn't quite awake before, he sure was now. "Where do we even start?"

"Depends on what you want to do or learn," Maia shrugged, trying to think of what she knew about regarding the city. Which, really, wasn't very much. It was pretty big when it came to actually exploring. Sticking to what she knew, she didn't often go very deep into the place. After all, a city in the Digital World could be just as dangerous as a city in the real world, if not moreso.
Kuu was busy eavesdropping on conversations that surrounded them, but piped in a, "we usually only come here for food." Of course, they never did anything fun in the city! The rest of the time it was just getting lost someplace. Not that the Rookie would complain, considering getting lost made for a better time than knowing where they were going! Knowing things was overrated anyway!
"I'd rather not be here during lunch hour, for the record," the tamer added. On the bright side, that was several hours away, considering school was probably just starting in the real world. "This is just morning traffic." Stopping, she turned to look at Marshal. He seemed pretty interested in the place! Not that she blamed him. Her first time here had been pretty much the opposite of wanting to stare at everything, having pretended to already know where she was going. Now, it was a little easier not to pretend and to try to be a little more at ease. Still, the place gave her an uncomfortable feeling from time to time. "So, what are you interested in? Maybe we can find something."

"Well, I forgot to eat breakfast this morning, so maybe we could go grab something to eat," Marshal suggested.
"I would like something to eat as well!" Sunmon chimed in. "I haven't had anything to eat since, well, since I was born!"
Marshal laughed. "Then I guess we'd better get some food in you, huh? What do you say, Maia?"

Maia nodded to the requests. She'd already eaten shortly beforehand, but surely, Kuu would go for seconds. "Sure. We usually go to the noodle cart, but I'm not sure if you'd really want that for breakfast?" she tried to smile, thinking about all the other places. There were several restaurants in the city. It was hard to pick which one sounded best to suggest!
"We could go to that breakfast place across from it," Kuu suggested, only to receive a shake of his tamer's head. "You can't say no just because it makes you uncomfortable," he pointed out, flatly. Sure she could!
With a shrug, the tamer sighed. "I'm sorry, but the Digitamamon preparing the food bothers me a little. I don't know how I feel about an egg making me eggs," she tried to explain. "I mean, he doesn't even have hands. How's he making this stuff? With his feet?" That was also a good point.
To this, the fox added, "he totally has hands," causing a concerned look from the girl. Not that she knew of! If the weird dinosaur-egg monster had hands, he was pretty good at hiding them, and she didn't care to find out how they looked. Hopefully, Kuu was just trying to get on her nerves.
"If there's something you're craving, though, it's almost definitely here someplace."

"I've got a craving for a good omelet," Marshal said, after considering for a little bit of time. "I haven't had one since I moved from America."
"What's an omelet?" Sunmon asked, a curious glint in his eye.
"Just trust me on this, little guy," Marshal said, giving him a light pat on the back. He turned over to Maia and Kuu. "So, where's the best place to get an omelet here?"

Maia and Kuu exchanged glances, hearing about wanting an omelette. Well, guess they were going to the breakfast place. Good thing Maia wasn't hungry. Except, now she'd be looking for arms on the weird egg-digi that ran the place! The thought of what it's hands would look like creeped her out enough, as was. At least everything was prepared out of sight.
Motioning for the tamer and his partner to follow, the blonde began walking. Soon, the noodle cart came in sight on one side of the street, with a Makuramon behind the counter, chatting with a Gazimon. On the other side of the street was a small restaurant with a picture of a Digitamamon for it's sign. With a brief wave to the monkey at the stand, the girl began to walk into the restaurant. "I've heard this place has great eggs, so I'd think omelettes would be right up it's alley," she explained, before pushing the door open and waiting for Marshal just inside. Inside, she found a Kiwimon near the door, almost chest height with the tamer. Well. That was taller than any kiwi bird that she'd ever seen!
"Two humans? Do your Digimon need chairs?" the bird monster scrutinized.
"Ah, uh, yes. Two humans. Mine doesn't need a chair," she paused, to look at the Sunmon, "do you want your own seat?"
Instead of waiting, the kiwi turned, mumbling a, "follow me," before leading the group to a table with four chairs, anyway. Well, what was the point in even asking? As soon as the creature was certain that the humans knew which table they were to sit at, it scurried off, returning with four menus in it's beak. Plopping them on the table, and waiting for the group to sit down, it finally addressed, "do you need time before ordering? Drinks? What would you like?"

Marshal quickly caught up with Maia and Kuu and sat down at the table. Though they had apparently prepared a table for Sunmon, he didn't really need it since he tended to just float there.
"We're all ready to order, I think!" Marshal told the Kiwimon. "Give us the best omelettes you've got!"
"Alright, we'll get right on it," the Digimon said before Marshal had even finished talking. "Anything to drink?"
"Water is fine," Marshal replied, not sure of the other drink options here in the Digital World. He looked over at Maia to confirm that that was alright with her. The waiter left somewhat rudely without another word.
"So," Marshal began, trying to make an attempt at small talk. "How did you end up here?"

"I want an omelette, too!" Kuu insisted, rapidly, not wanting to be left out of getting food! "I don't know what it is, but I want it! Do you have pancakes? Can I have those too?" He glanced at Maia, who didn't stop him from ordering what was probably way too much food.
When it came to drinks, Maia interrupted before the Kudamon could request five of those, "Water's fine for him. Can I have just have a coffee? No sugar or anything, please." Sure, she preferred her coffee on the sweeter side, but she didn't really want to imagine how an armless bird and an armless egg planned to put anything into her drink, or even touch the items for that matter. Why did nobody have hands?
After everything was ordered, and the Kiwimon ran off, a question had been thrown at her. "In the Digital World? Today, or in general?" she paused, thinking about the answer for the latter. "Today, we just rode the train here for breakfast. If I feed Kuu too much at home, my mom's going to notice," that would be bad. Sure, her dad knew about him, but there was only so much that he would cover for her. "We were supposed to head back before class, but... you saw how well that worked out," she sighed, looking toward her Digimon for a minute. "At least I don't think we had any tests today..." The tone wasn't overly promising, though, considering one could never tell if they were in for a surprise quiz.
"As far as when we first came here, you can blame Kuu. He ran onto the train and hid under a seat until it started moving. Dragged some other poor kid along with us on accident."
"It was great!"
"No, it was awful. Learning experience, but pretty awful." Then, there was a pause as she realized something. "Wait. How did you even get on the Trailmon?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at the other tamer. "You can't get through the doors unless you use your Digivice, I thought."

"I'm not really sure, myself," Marshal admitted. "I got caught up in a crowd at the train station, and the next thing I know I'm all by myself at this weird platform with only the one train on it. When I got up to it, I guess the Digivice started glowing without me really realizing it."
"It's like you were meant to be here, huh?" Sunmon wondered.
"Could be," Marshal mused. "Probably just dumb luck on my part. That seems to be a quirk of mine, for better or worse. Speaking of which, you said there were different levels of Digimon earlier. How do I get Sunmon to reach those levels?"
"Yeah!" Sunmon interjected. "I wanna be big and strong so I can protect my partner! Also, being able to maybe sit in chairs would also be pretty nice."

Before Maia could respond, the Kiwimon ran out of the kitchen, a tray somehow balancing perfectly on it's head. Coming to a stop at the table, it tilted it's face forward, and the tray slid down its nose, dropping onto the table without spilling a drop. That took some skill! Pulling her coffee and Kuu's drink off of the tray, she watched the bird monster hurry off without a word. Maybe it was busy. Oh well, at least they didn't need anything else at the moment.
"You just got him. Do you really want him to change so quickly?" Maia inquired, staring down at the black liquid in her cup. At least the beverage looked normal. How did armless Digimon make coffee, even? "I mean, I kept Kuu at in-training for a really long time, from what I've been able to tell," she admitted, as the monster stuck his face into his glass. No, literally. His entire head was submerged and little bubbles surfaced near his ears. After a few seconds, he pulled his head out with a gasp, shaking the water off and spraying it everywhere. should have expected that. "Really?!" the girl hissed, reaching for a napkin and began to dry off the table and her face.
Now that she had done that, she began working on patting the white fox dry. "Anyway," she sighed heavily, looking toward the tamer and his partner. "But, it tends to vary. Like, he digivolved the first time because he ate too much and got hiccups. The second time, it was in a mock-battle with a friend's digimon. But, we were trying to trigger it then." So, maybe that wasn't actually the best way to go about it. She wasn't going to discourage the Digimon from evolving, though. "Fighting other Digimon seems to be an option. Or," she paused, debating on if she even wanted to mention this one, "my friend had a theory that if a tamer's in danger, their digimon has a higher chance to digivolve. But, please don't do that."

"I don't think I'm in that big a rush for it," Marshal assured her. "He seems to be, though."
"Yeah! I want to digivolve and get stronger!" Sunmon piped up.
"Well, throwing ourselves into immediate danger seems a bit ridiculous," Marshal admitted. "I wonder where we could go to train you up? I'd be a little nervous to take you anywhere where you could get hurt."

"I still don't advise going too far out of the city, though," the tamer reminded, as she took a drink of her coffee. Hot! But, still good. Hey, maybe kiwis and eggs actually knew how to make good drinks and food, after all! She was still a little sketchy of whatever process they went through to actually handle everything, though. Like, how did Kiwimon even get the trays on it's head?
Kuu tilted his head, water dripping from his ear. "Why don't you check out the area just outside the wall, then? There's gotta be someone angry and wanting to fight!" Awful idea! Just terrible! Why would the Digimon suggest such a thing? "I want to be strong, too!"
Around this point, the Kiwimon bolted from the kitchen, again, now carrying a tray of omelettes and a serving of pancakes. Much like before, it slipped the tray on the table before quickly fleeing. Not the talkative type, eh? Oh well. again, nobody seemed to need anything.
Maia pulled her Digimon onto her lap, so that only his paws would rest on the table, and put his food in front of him. Not even hesitating, the monster began to scarf the food down like he hadn't just eaten less than twenty minutes ago. Infinite stomach, she swore!
"Still sounds dangerous," Maia sighed, trying to think. Had she really seen any place for that? "You might be able to ask around, but it might attract bad company. I mean, what I've heard was that they use some of their tamer's -- your -- energy to Digivolve. I'd assume they need to store that up or something. Might not be healthy to push it." But, becoming a rookie level probably wasn't that hard, really. They weren't overly strong. "There's probably some place around here that would have a place to train. I can't imagine all of these Digimon fight it out in the wild to get to where they are now."

Marshal and Sunmon began to immediately wolf down their omelettes. Marshal found it rare for someone to match his appetite, and these two Digimon seemed to have no problem keeping up. "If we can find a place in the city that trains Digimon, that would probably be best," he decided between bites. "What do you think, Sunmon?"
"Let's look for it!" Sunmon said, clearly excited. "You should come with us, Kuu!"
"I agree. It would be fun if you two came along with us," Marshal said to Maia. "If this place is as dangerous as you say, it wouldn't hurt to let our Digimon get stronger, would it?"

Lifting her cup to her lips, Maia listened and tried not to watch everyone filling their faces. It was a little weird how rapidly everyone had to eat. Kuu only paused from his omelette when he was addressed, "I like doing stuff!" the Digimon agreed, before going back to downing his food. He had to eat fast! Fast was best! Then his stomach wouldn't know when to tell him to stop until it was way too late!
"There's a place for that near the middle of the city," the Kiwimon piped in, as it walked past the table with another tray on its head, clearly heading to another customer. "It should be obvious enough for even you to find," it added as it passed the group, then hurried back to the kitchen.
Well, at least that was... somewhat helpful. Rude, but helpful.
Hearing the other tamer try to invite her, Maia shrugged, almost nervously. Here. Right. Here was the dangerous place. Yup. "About that," the blonde bit her lip, looking away. "This place isn't really the only place you need to worry about," she sighed, before forcing herself to take a drink of coffee. "Honestly? Digimon are in the human world, too, and they might be more worrying there, considering a lot of people don't know about them. And, they aren't supposed to know about them. But, I've seen them. And, they're not all good." No, that Arachnemon almost killed her! Stupid Digimon.
The admission of this, though, may have altered her view of discouraging the tamer from helping strengthen his partner. After all, it wasn't like she could just tell him to go home and not worry about it. No. There was a chance he'd actually need to protect someone someday. Or just protect himself. "Y-yeah. We'll go with you."
