The James' Birthday Party [OPEN]

Post by Colin, Luke & Bellamy on Sept 30, 2017 5:03:10 GMT
Luke gave a small sigh as Cion seemed to be rather startled by his request. "Damn it, Bells..." he muttered, shooting a quick glare at the Impmon for not telling Cion the full thing. "Of course you're under no obligations to do so, you're a guest" he assured her. "Or if you'd rather play some songs solo, that's okay too" he added, thinking that might be more comfortable for her.
It seemed that Cion did indeed want to join PROFIT, which was fantastic. "Ah, no, that's not true, we've got some openings" Luke assured her. He hoped that she'd be able to be accepted, the Elecmon was impressed by the stories he had heard of Cion, and a digimon with her abilities on the group would make missions work very well.
Luke then jumped a little with surprise as Koharu joined in their conversation. It seemed to be alright though, she was addressing what they were just talking about. He chuckled a little at the antics of Kon-Chan and Warg. Those two were fun to be around. He awaited what Cion would say to Koharu's offer of an interview to join.
Bellamy snickered as Judith seemed intent on singing karaoke. "Well... we'll see" he said. The story about George Foreman though confused him. "Boxing...?" he asked. "Huh, guess Colin's brother Riku might know about him". He was a boxer after all. It's a shame he wasn't here, but, Riku didn't yet know about the digital world so it was for the best.
Colin meanwhile noticed that Dante seemed to be drinking a lot. "Ehh... well... please don't drink too much so fast" he asked, knowing from his aunt that drunks tended to ruin things.
Bellamy was next up by the stage. It seemed that the two digimon he had asked to help had arrived, and he was currently briefing them. "Hi there, Rex and Roy is it?" he asked them. They were Veemon and Guilmon twin brothers, and thankfully they had come dressed smartly. According to their story, they were digimon that had been raised on El Doradimon, but thankfully they had seemed to be okay around humans and were willing to be hired to play music for a human birthday party.
"Yep, that's us" Roy affirmed. "So, these are the instruments here, right?"
"Yup, you two are fine with keyboard and drums are ya?" Bellamy asked. They assured him that they were, then Bellamy gave them an outline of what would be going on tonight. Since they were hired and not guests, they didn't yet mingle with the others, simply waiting for their cue. Bellamy then climbed down and joined the rest of the party.
More arrivals! Ah, this one was a good friend. Colin grinned and shook Marshal's hand. Sophie did so too. She was familiar with Marshal since he had often visited Colin to talk about digimon business. And since she had a partner too, she knew the truth about Coronamon under the holosuit back on Earth.
Colin looked at his present with delight - a scarf! "Awesome! Now you can look cool just like us!" Luke said, beaming. His own blue scarf had been fashioned into a bowtie for tonight, however. He intended to look classy on the stage.
"Oh my god, thank you!" Sophie said, eyes widening at the sight of the router. "Have you got any idea how hard it is to get reliable internet down in the AEGIS office? Apparently we need a fixed address for an ISP to install broadband. But with this, Satoshi should be able to wire it up to get us a better connection. Thanks so much, Marshal!"
Bellamy's face turned into a broad smile as he saw his boyfriend arrive. He straightened his bowtie and walked over to meet him. "Hiya, hotstuff~" he crooned, enjoying the familiar feeling of warmth and softness as Coronamon put an arm around him. "How I'm doin'? Well, I'm alright now" he joked, kissing him on the cheek.
"So yeah, glad ya could make it" he smiled up at Colin. "14 already, my little partner's growin' up, heh heh"
"Heh, stop it, Bells" Colin chided gently. "Thanks for the present, Marshal, this is excellent" he said, putting the scarf on right away. It was really comfortable. "So, do you know everyone here?" he asked, wondering if he wanted to be introduced to anyone.

Quickly, Cion shook her head with a smile when Luke appeared frustrated and apologetic about the show they would perform in due time. Patting his shoulder, the dressed Arnamon remained calm and composed, show that it was super easy for her to adapt. "I'd be happy to perform with all of you. Sounds like fun! Don't worry, we'll rock the house." She assured him, hoping that they could drop the tension until the show got life. After all, to perform well, they had to have calm bodies and minds Though considering what kind of fellas the twins were, she was not worried about them.
The next words surprised Cion greatly, but they delighted her even more. "Truly? Have some left the organization recently?" She wondered, certain that she had just read recently that P.R.O.F.I.T. had reached its maximum capacity on their website. Though perhaps there were changes in the law again that allowed exceptions under specific conditions? Perhaps she was allowed to be an apprentice under the wing of someone else, like for example Colin and the twins. If that was the case, then she'd be glad to have someone to ask for guidance. "Well... that's great! Looking forward to an interview then."
And if fate for once decided to be kind to her, Koharu and her companions joined their conversation. They of course were high-ranking members of the organization, and they seemed kind enough, if a bit coltish. As Luke was distracted by something else, she took a couple of steps towards Koharu and the others, listening careful and making note of their behavior. Overall, she remained relaxed and unperturbed as if to signal that she could be professional. Besides, she did not want to appear like her life depended solely on being approved by P.R.O.F.I.T.
"Oh I just didn't want to bother you here on this fine party, madame Koharu." She replied a bit shyly, feeling a bit strange about talking to a teenager like she was a CEO. But courtesy was a strength of hers, which was why she reached a hand out for her with the intention to shake it. That was of course after she and Kon-Chan had their little banter; and naturally the invitation of peace was extended to her partners as well. "Regardless, I am Cion. Pleased to meet you all." She spoke, wondering if she was being a bit too civil. They seemed casual and coltish enough, so depending on their reaction, she would adapt her attitude.
Briefly coughing into her hand, Cion too took a chair like the others and sat down to face them, legs crossed over like a pretty little lady. Listening again to Koharu, she patiently nodded a couple of times. "I believe I got a good picture from Colin, Bellamy and Luke, but I wouldn't mind being absolutely sure. And if you don't mind, we can start right here and now. There will still be plenty of hours to celebrate afterwards after all." She spoke less rigid than before, more on a level of a polite companion.
Sure, P.R.O.F.I.T. members were not commanded to be altruistic heroes. Being a member had something self-seeking to it, but that did not mean they were vile. On the contrary, with members like Colin and the twins, it had its good aspects. To earn money for example, Cion could become a headhunter or general solver of problems. She often done so already, like helping out the village of Eirene and opposing the corruption in the forest. The rewards had been generous, so why not assure a constant stream of tasks while being among friends? In her previous lives, she used to be a good mercenary and military sentinel, so why not something like that again? It was always fun, profitable and served the good of the world one way or the other. Also, she mustn't forget her nephew Logan.

"More like some people just vanished... I don't quite like that sort of incident," Koharu admitted, having heard about the Digimon's comment about PROFIT's situation. "But it's OK, most of the higher ups still as strong as ever, right, Lukey~? Well, that aside... Looks like you're eager enough to join our ranks... that's a very nice attitude!"
Although, the comment about madame made Koharu pout. "...I'm not that old!" but she then smiled ear to ear again, somehow seem just playfully being upset. She firmly shook the Digimon's hand, a businesswoman's handshake. It's seem practiced a lot, or most likely something that she had given to many people. "Nakano Koharu, formalities is not of my strong suit, so if you want to be part of PROFIT, best drop that formalities when it come to me unless it's an official job~"
The two other partner then followed suit, both shook Cion's hand (paw?) as firmly.
"Kon-chan. That's my nickname, yeah, no need to ask my full name." the Darkdramon told her
"Pffft, you heard her. Anyway, name's Warg. Just relax around me, I'm not as tight as my sister in formalities and whatnots. I guess I'm more to like Anego there~" the Chaos Dukemon quipped.
Now that introductions are done, Koharu asked the two to take some snacks and drink. The interview seem about to start.
It's seem that Cion already heard some stuff about PROFIT from the party trio. Koharu smiled slightly, a business smile instead of her previously cheerful one. She said she's not well versed in formalities, but it's seem that she can switch between being formal and not.
"Alright then, Cion, let me ask you... What do you consider a 'Profit'? What goal do you have in life?"

It seemed Koharu had been aware of her previous wonders, having listened in to Cion and Luke for quite a while now apparently. So, it appeared some members had simply vanished from the surface of the world, which was not good. Had they grown tired of the organization, or were humans simply bound to their world's responsibilities? Whatever was the case, it lead to opportunities the Arnamon would utilize without hesitation. "Hehe, I promise I won't just vanish. After all, I got a small family to take care of." She vowed, letting them know that she had ties to others in case they ever had to search for her.
"I meant no insult." Cion joked along after Koharu's playful pout, realizing that this was all just fun and games. She should have known that she had been overly civil, but at least it lead to some chummy banter. Besides, the handshake was splendid and firm, so not everything she had done had been wrong. Her grip had been softer than the human's but it was not much of relevance. "Nice to meet you then, Nakano Koharu. And okay, we cool." The vulpine digimon replied easy-goingly. So Koharu's required formalities were lack of formalities... strange, but acceptable.
With their hands and paws firmly shaken, they sat down to have their little introduction. After that, she'd probably go to the buffet and fill herself up with hearty food and Cola light, but that was for later. "Very well, Kon-chan." Cion stated to the Darkdramon, an impressive digimon indeed. Turning to Warg the ChaosDukemon, she nodded calmly with a soft smile. "Alrighty, Warg. Thanks." She let him know his appreciation. While a gracile lady, Cion liked being comradely with others. It had a nice, personal touch to interaction.
The interview started off strange, with a few direct questions that is. The first one, what she considered to be a profit, seemed to be one she could directly pull out of the dictionary. "Well... I consider a profit the same way as anyone else I suppose. A financial gain, usually after a financial investment or work investment. Naturally, it should repay for the investments and 'bear fruits' to live from. Of course the more you earn the better for you and those you take care of." Was her sincere answer, despite having spoken rather casually. It remained an odd question to her, but she had answered it to the best of her honesty.
What goal she had in life however was a tricky question to answer indeed. Due to recent events regarding a particular Gaomon, everything had turned upside down. Taking a couple of seconds to think, she decided to answer the same way as before. "Honestly? The same goal as my previous lives, just a different approach. I want to help out people in the world and earn enough to assure a comfortable life for me and my family. For that, P.R.O.F.I.T. seems the right call, considering how well Colin and the twins got it for themselves. Besides, beginning among friendly faces can't hurt, right? With them and Kan... should be simple."
She did not know how a 15 year old, human girl would take in these answers. Could she even fathom the perspective of a being that carried a core that had lived for centuries, if not millennia? A being that had lived in what some might call altruism for most of her life in vain? A being that had a... brother... a brother in law and a nephew which wanted to take care for them instead of only bearing the worries of the whole world again? Could a kid understand something like this?

"Interesting, but have to say that's "about everyone". You see, profit for me is simple: something tangible, and something intangible, both of them. It cannot be just one. For example, if you got money but feeling unsatisfied, would that ends in profit? Sure, profit materially. Now, if you're satisfied, but it ends with your monetary life going downhill? That's also not a profit. It also must something that both party happy about, otherwise it's not a profit. You might call me naive, but for me a good business must be mutual satisfaction. That's why, I wish that all PROFIT members chases their own goal in life, their satisfaction, and something tangible while at it."
"That was quite a speech, completely different than your usual one," Warg commented.
"...Would you believe me if I said she made it up on spot?" Kon-chan whispered. Hearing that, the Chaos Dukemon laughed his ass off after a brief pause.
Kan, she had no idea who is that. Oh well, she can check her database later. "...Well, that aside, the mentality is right. I feared that you thought that PROFIT is some organization of justice or something. It's not that we're against you taking some bounties... but please, do so through a legal procedure. We're mostly mercenaries, I think. Mercenaries and merchant. I'm on the merchant side of course."
"She have an inn in Snowflake Village," Warg explained.
"Yuppers~ Well, that aside, I'll ask then... if you're told to do a mission that is barely legal and crush oppositions would you do it?"

"Fascinating." Cion stated with utmost sincerity in her voice, leaning a bit forward as to be closer to Koharu. It seemed, despite the corporate title of their organization, that all members of P.R.O.F.I.T. followed a code of ethics. This code demanded both self-fulfillment and customer satisfaction. In her point of view, that was truly the best of both worlds, as it denied neither the employee nor the client. Both should be content after whatever transaction there was between them. No, that was definitely a code that the vulpine digimon could live by without demur.
Ignoring the quiet banter between Koharu's partners for a moment, Cion continued to listen as the young lady explained more about the sides of her organization. She often found herself nodding in agreement, believing everything about her future employer was perfectly acceptable. "Of course I'd do the legal procedures. I'm not an assassin. I'm an... ethical hired gun, as well as service provider." She explained what she had been up to thus far. Vanquishing evil foes, taking on missions from Terminus' bulletin board... all of that perfectly legal and moral stuff that some digimons did for a living.
"Then I suppose I'd be on the mercenary side. Nothing new to me." The dressed Arnamon stated, hoping she would be correct with that. Listening to Warg, Cion tried to recollect if she had ever been to Snowflake Village. Unfortunately, she had never been there. "I'll pay it a visit one day." She assured them, certain that her future travels would lead her to her inn one day or another. However, that seemed to be the end of the friendly banter, as the topic shifted to something more serious, something she needed a couple of moments to think about.
Folding her arms, she eventually nodded as she reached a conclusion. "I'd not do it until I have every single piece of information at my disposal. Who is my contractor, what is the opposition? If the opposition is peaceful with a righteous cause for example, I'd not do the task. Why? Simple, If P.R.O.F.I.T. were to align themselves with a tyrannical dictator, that would only hurt your reputation in the long run. Profit isn't just immediate after all, it's also long-lasting investment. Besides... I can't think of a reputable place that sees it as legal to crush dissent. Now, if the opposition is violent, that would of course change the entire picture... but as I stated, it all depends on the details."
Taking in a deep breath, Cion leaned back into her chair and smiled ever so faintly. "Besides... I have many non-lethal methods at my disposal to... avert conflicts. And maybe my wisdom from the centuries I witnessed could help out too." Was her final statement, as honest and sincere as well. It was probably clear that she was still holding to a moral code, but she was also a digimon of intellectual honesty that recognized that the world was mostly gray and hat every piece of information had to be considered before making a proper decision.
Hopefully, that answer was fine for Koharu.

Dante takes the bottle of wine away from Wormmon and sets it down on the table, gasping for air. "Oh, dang, Wormmon. That's way too much." Colin mentioned that Dante should not drink too much wine. Apparently the teen had experience with drunkards. Though Dante was not willingly getting sloshed this time. "Right. I'm just going to take it easy. Maybe go find some bread." Dante heads over to prepare himself a plate of food. "Oh, don't forget about me, Dante!" "You can fix your own plate, you little devil on my shoulder. Just don't go overboard." Wormmon crawls down Dante's arm to grab some food.
More party guests are arriving. Dante recognizes Marshall from some previous adventures. "Huh? That's the guy who keeps falling asleep. I hope his narcolepsy is in check." Judith is over watching the band perform. Apparently there's a Veemon and Guilmon duo playing with the band. They have quite the stylish attires. Dante couldn't help but overhear talk of PROFIT and AEGIS from the other party goers. Dante wasn't that interested in the groups. He would only get lost in the shuffle. Dante loads up his plate with plenty of food, and he goes to sit down with Wormmon to enjoy the nice meal. Hopefully all that wine is not going to get to the Tamer.

Marshal smiled. "Glad you guys like your presents!" The truth was that he had stressed over this for weeks, so the fact that the two of them were so happy with what they had recieved made his day.
Coronamon looked around at the rest of the party. He didn't really see too many people that he specifically recognized. There was one guy with a Wormmon that seemed vaguely familiar, but he just couldn't place it. There also seemed to be a band playing. "Ooh, some music!" he observed. "I bet Marshal would love to help out!"
Marshal heard his partner and immediately blushed. "Oh, no, I couldn't possibly-"
"Nonsense!" Coronamon insisted. "I know you can sing! What do you say, babe? Wanna hear Marshal sing along with the band?"
Marshal looked over at the band. There was a Veemon and Guilmon duo that he didn't recognize. He wasn't sure that he'd really fit in with a band he had never met or rehearsed with. He looked to Colin, Luke, and Bellamy in order, wondering how they'd respond.

Luke was relieved that Cion didn't seem to mind the abrupt change of arrangements. "Heh, alright then, we're glad to have you on board" the Elecmon said, delighted.
Afterward, Koharu engaged Cion with conversation about PROFIT. Luke mostly stuck around as a silent spectator, given that Koharu was the co-leader of PROFIT and thus there would be no better voice to tell Cion about the organization. Although he chuckled and nodded at Koharu's comment about the strength of the members. Yep, it sure was swell being a digimon able to evolve to Super Mega.
Luke then proceeded toward the stage to mingle with his brother and the hired help. Eventually, he gave the signal for Rex and Roy to play, and soon they filled the hall with some rudimentary, atmospheric songs to put something to the mood. Luke with his guitar, Roy with his keyboard and Rex with his drums seemed to be a good start.
That left Colin to chat to Dante, Judith and Wormmon. "So, just wondering, what kind of adventures have you got up to in the digital world so far?" he asked them, wanting to hear more of other adventurers.
Bellamy meanwhile was engaged with Coronamon and Marshal. And it seemed that Coronamon wanted Marshal to participate with the band. He remembered something similar being raised in the past.
"Well, honestly? I think it'd be awesome if you could take a part" he told the other tamer, agreeing with his boyfriend. "Assuming they can play the songs ya know" he chuckled. From his experiences with Marshal so far, the Impmon didn't mind hearing his voice, so he guessed that it wouldn't be a problem. He trusted Coronamon's opinion of his singing after all.
Colin meanwhile had overheard and shrugged. "You're a guest, Marshal, it's entirely up to you" he said, making sure he felt no obligations.
"Oh yeah, feel free!" Luke added. "We were gonna have Bellamy do vocals before and even if his voice is nice, sometimes he soils the lyrics"
"Hey! I don't "soil" the lyrics, I just improve 'em!" Bellamy objected, but supposed that if Marshal truly wanted to, he could take over with Vocals while he danced with Coronamon. That'd be a nice interlude, he thought.

Well, while it was certainly not 5 pm in any way, Coolmon really wondered why she found herself at...
The pub.
Not to mention there was some mention of a birthday party or something and guess what Coolmon felt like eating today?
Cake. A lot of it.
So it was clearly the perfect time to invade this birthday part by running into the pub and...Wait, what?
She looked around and looked very...confused. WHERE WAS THE PARTY AT?!
...This music was quite nice, though.

Marshal figured it would be a nice gesture to share his gifts with his friends. "I'll give it a shot," he chuckled. "Just let me know what to sing and I'll do what I can!" he hopped up on stage and met with the band members, a Veemon and a Guilmon. "Hey, there," he said pleasantly.
Coronamon, meanwhile, decided to stick around his dearest Bellamy. Hopefully Marshal would be able to fill in enough so he could have some quality time with the Impmon of his dreams. "C'mere, babe," he grinned goofily, pulling Bellamy towards him by the arm.

"Please do," Koharu said to Cion, offering a voucher at it. "Let's just say it's a promotion, shall we? Member or not, you'll have to stay there at least once and give it a spin. I'm sure it'll be to your liking. The north is cold, yes, but exactly because it is cold and silent it might be good to relax from hustle bustle of the city. Our onsen is very good for the skin too--and fur, I say. Tested out! Not to mention our food. If you haven't tried any Japanese cuisine, I highly suggest to pick the buffet style. If more western one is to your taste, just tell it to the chef."
She gone to her merchant mode again, haven't she? But that's fine.
"But that's where you're a bit wrong I guess. Competition is meant to be won. Granted, we're not exactly really keen on using underhanded methods, but if someone have total monopoly of the market and they refused to share with us, trying to crush us, that's when we should crush them back. You see, I got in a mission transporting lemonade... let's just say that it's a nightmare. So at that time I guess the best choice was to screw them back. We play fair, but at the same time, if they're not gonna play fair in the competition, neither do we. We'll show their illegal dealings. That's how business work."
Koharu clapped once and Warg came forward with stamp and contract on hand. She laid it in front of Cion.
"It might sound like we're crooked beings, but let's just say, this is how business is... We don't deal with illegal matters, but it's another thing to expose illegal deals. We definitely got enemies in business, and we might have to do odd missions... We're not justice, but we're not evil either. Knowing this are you still going to join us?"

Crossing her legs, the dressed Arnamon could not help herself but chuckle with a delighted grin at Koharu. The way she talked about her establishment with so much vim was captivating, and to be fair it truly sounded like a fantastic place to relax. "Though I've already tasted pretty much everything there is, I would not mind a buffet. And of course a place to enjoy tranquility at." She spoke calmly, imaging what the location would look like. She thought of fine woodwork, yet still modern technology to keep everything comfortable and up to date.
Honestly, Cion was a bit surprised at Koharu's next statement. It seemed completely out of context. It did not really relate to her original question, nor did she seem to be responsive to what the vulpine digimon had to say. No, it seemed more like an extra, making clear that they would also play foul against others who played foul. "Certainly." She spoke calmly with folded hands, not seeing a problem in payback against those who deserved it. It was acceptable business in her eyes, and a little bit of righteous vigilantism in the digital world was not a bad thing. Overall, P.R.O.F.I.T. sounded like a perfectly fine organization.
"You don't sound crooked to me at all, miss. After all, only because I make a profit doesn't mean I can't do good and be lawful. Doing a fine job and occasionally showing some criminals the barrel of my rifle... couldn't ask for more. Always liked doing that in my past lives, and still do." She calmly explained herself with a gentle, confident smile. Leaning towards Koharu, she showed her her paws and patiently awaited the contract, wanting to read it first before signing it. After all, that's what smart digimons and businessmen did, not acting rashly.
While appearing calm and composed inside, her core was beating rapidly. Finally, a light at the end of the tunnel had appeared, and she would be damned if she did not seize the path it provided her

"Hmm, very well if you say so..." Koharu smiled and lifted the contract from the table. "Alright, this is the contract, along with all the needed formalities. Take your time to read it. You can submit it to PROFIT office in Whitewater or you can come to my inn in Snowflake. Whichever it is, I'll be waiting. Because this is the party, I think it's a bad taste to talk about business without joining the merriment, right? Anyway, I'll greet the others, I think."
With that, Koharu stood up and walked slowly to the other people. There are some new peoples, but no one catch her interest just yet for now. The Cutemon seemed lost, but it's probably not her place to say that she's lost or not. Marshal is here too... and he seemed to be alone. Maybe it's the best to talk with him? But it's seem that he's going to play with the band member... Come to think of it, this reminds her of her sister, her multi talented, musically gifted sister... Reminded of that made Koharu slightly melancholic.
"...Come to think of it, maybe I should learn piano again..." she muttered.

With mutual agreement at hand, Koharu handed her the contract all potential members of P.R.O.F.I.T. received. Naturally, she would take her time at home to thoroughly read through it before signing it, a sentiment the young lady agreed with. It was quite a small book, but that did not matter. On the contrary, the more details and information it contained the better. And once she was done, all she had to do was to submit it in the office of Whitewater. Taking the contract and storing it in a small pocket within her dressed, Cion smiled at Koharu and nodded.
"I agree. Let us enjoy the party from now on. Still, it's been a pleasure, with all three of you. I'll be around if you still need me." The vulpine digimon spoke calmly, bidding her business partners a temporary farewell. As they left, Cion stood up from her chair and somewhat hastily walked over to the massive buffet. Leaning on a table, the dressed digimon watched the beautiful appearance of the food, and savored its wonderful smell. There was so much to have; meat, vegetables, desserts... and she needed all of it right now.
Filling 2 big plates with as much of everything as she could, she quickly made her way to a small table and sat somewhat violently down. If others looked at her despite how much she tried to stay out of the spotlight, they could see her fingers and feet shaking, her breath having become heavy as a constantly shifting, winning grin overcame her lips. And just like the way she expressed herself on the outside, Cion did not know how to really feel on the inside. It was a mix of every conceivable emotion... except disappointment for once.
As she took many bites into a medium fish baguette, she once again scanned the area for Luke, Bellamy and / or Colin. Since Kan was not here, it was them she had to share the amazingly fantastic news with. Oh she so so excited about how they would react. Certainly they would be happy to work together with her in the future, no? Heck, perhaps they could even take her under their wing for a while! That way, she could finally efface what she owed them, and improve their relationship as well. It sounded like a perfect plan, but... was it wise to bother them with that today?
Well... if they had the time to come over to her to ask what was up with her, she would tell them. If not, then she would gladly continue to enjoy the huge amount of food in front of her. "Oh, now I try the pasta salad." She spoke under her breath, eating rather hastily although she still managed to relish every bite. Gosh, she had properly never felt this big of a hole in her tummy... but Yggdrasil be damned if she did not also feel fantastic for once in quite a long time. Finally, it seemed the distant light of her path had returned.
