Corrupted Water [Mission] [5/5]

"Well, while my name -is- Coolmon and should be respected as such, I -guess- I am a Cutemon." She really was. She could heal and everything. Coolmon nodnodded a few times. "I think everything here's pretty well-rounded, so...we shouldn't have a very hard time with whatever we find..." She continued.
Gryz and Tetsu's explanation really, really concerned her. Scopemon did not help. If this were like a cancer, how would the boat fare getting near it? How would they fare...?
Maybe a miracle could happen. Maybe not. "...Well. Blight. Corruption. Whatever it is, we'll learn more during the mission. Hopefully everyone's ready."

"We'll get by fine, so long as we're careful, nothing can go TOO wrong." He was definitely wrong, he knew it too, but at the very least, it may give people some comfort that they might as well have faith in themselves.
Bibi shrugged, not wanting to ruin the seriousness of the situation at the moment, "If anything, I can fly close to the boat and shoot things about to hit us."
Faluo shrugged at the idea, it was Bibi's, buuut... It wasn't a bad one. "It could work out, I can help if needed."

"No," Tetsu disagreed. "I know Luke and Bellamy. They are Super Ultimates now. Although it's just one vessel, it proved that the barrier could withstand a super ultimate attack. The problem isn't the number or the power, but the way to enter it. Say, Pandamon, have there been similar situation in other Corrupted mission? Like moves cannot goes through the barrier? Gryz and I tried, but it was healing move. Nothing happened, so we thought it's because the corruption is too strong."
The new information solidified Gryz's thought that the corrupted core might be in the ship after all... a barrier strong enough to prevent attack to pass through... this... probably the same storm that happened when they're about to pass through Gaia Statue. His thought however disturbed by the Digimon that came with the Mikemon. He smiled amicably. "Thank you beary much for your concern but--"
...and got cut by the Mikemon. He wouldn't mind too much had the Mikemon only commented about the flaw of their term, but to suddenly check his data--
"Excuse me, but you're a doctor, right?" Gryz suddenly interjected sharply, eyes fully opening for the first time. "Is it ethical to examine my data without my consent? I might showed you my sign of corruption, but I didn't recall I gave you a permission to check my data. Is it ethical to suddenly just like that point out my condition without me saying it's alright to do? I'm not your lab rat, Doctor, thank you very much.
Blighted? You're talking the core doing it's programming, sure, but this thing changed the sea into acid, the earth dying and burned you the moment your body touched them, is the sea and earth doing their meant programming? The queerness that we see at the moment might be just the surface level. Can you said my action while under this so called blighting you call it to attack my partner and changed my evolution as completely meant to be? I won't call that blighting. I'd call that outright corrupting, corroding, whatever. But seriously, you overstepped my privacy, Doctor, never do it again."
After a few calming breath, he turned to his partner and nodded.
Tetsu honestly winced. Gryz is really really really sensitive about his attack to his partner... That and he was unable to bring himself to say that rather than blighting, in his case it's more like sponge that absorbs the water. The element of corruption was honestly like a missing puzzle piece to the Bearmon. It was actually the first step that would leads him to become a Demon Lord Class Digimon, Belphemon, as stated in the prophecy given to him by a travelling seeress. Tetsu kept quiet about this
"Unfortunately, after the changes that happened to Gryz, he got nearly all his skills changed. I have no idea if we have the right moves, but we have healing moves for sure," Tetsu took the explanation over. "I don't recall me and Oboro got any healing skill either in our jogress... hmn... Well, there are still room for improvements, but I think we're pretty much ready. Is there is anything to add?"

Indeed, a mass air attack had been considered by the Whitewater council, but, it had eventually been shot down - as would a lot of air digimon if it had gone ahead. Pandamon had eventually voted in the negative for such a decision - mainly because it was simply unthinkable to ask so many flying digimon to sacrifice their lives so others may counter the threat. Ideally he wanted this to take as little casualties as possible.
Then the Mikemon made an observation, that perhaps this should not be called 'corruption'. Pandamon raised an eyebrow and participated in the debate.
"While that may be true, doctor, we merely settled on the word 'corruption' because of this entity's ability to override that of normal data" he said. "While the program may conduct its intended purpose, whatever dastardly purpose that is, the fact that it infects seemingly healthy data as so, well, what better word for it than corruption?"
Infection perhaps? Well... that was just semantics, and Pandamon would say no further. After all, if Mikemon was a doctor he would probably know more on the subject.
It seemed that some of the individuals set to this task did have defensive capabilities, but apparently nothing impressive. Scopemon was thankful at the least he had a healer that could keep the crew in tip top condition. He smiled at the bird digimon.
"Excellent, air cover is most welcome for a task like this" he said. "But regardless, make sure you fly swift and true. This ship can shoot airships from the sky with impressive precision, so, don't think you're invincible out there. Be prepared to retreat to defensive positions on our approach if it comes to that".
Pandamon then turned to Tetsu as he was addressed. "I think there was a report from the Timberlands, an attack from the outside was resisted before the main combat began" he mused. "That was a Perfect level attack by the way".
It seemed Gryz was somewhat offended by the Mikemon doctor making his statements. Sweatdrops were abound by this small confrontation. Had it happened among Scopemon's crew over a dispute he'd tell them to fight it out and let it rest, but he supposed that mentality on these mercenaries might result in worse problems if they weren't of equal strength.
"Is... everything alright here?" Pandamon asked, a little anxiously.
Scopemon meanwhile felt the need to press home the main purpose of this talk. "Well, if you have abilities that can stop enemy attacks hitting the Chutzpah, that's all fine with me" he said. "Any further questions?" he'd ask out of what little politeness he had. Ideally he'd love to get this show on the road.

Well if nothing else, the roles were set in place: the Cutemon-named-Coolmon seemed to have confidence in her healing abilities, and Bibi could take flight around the ship as needed. Iko and the Gomamon wouldn't have too much use on the approach, it seemed, but they were at least another pair of hands on deck.
As per Coolmon and Pandamon's point on Mikemon saying it wasn't corruption, the cat gave a nod. "Oh, don't get me wrong, it doesn't change anything about what we're doing here, nor do I think the official name of the phenomenon should be changed. I'll just have to pen a letter so that the corruption experts don't get tied up in this..."
"Sheesh. Two minutes from kicking off and you're already talking bureaucracy?" Iko rolled his eyes, as the Mikemon chuckled and gave a thumbs-up!
But, then game Gryz's comments. Seeing his stunned gaze, the cat gave a "Hm?" as he turned to face the bear, and - wow, he was mad. So mad, that it got a little under the doctor's skin: blinking a few times, he shook his head, giving a sigh. Pandamon was quick to try and break up the fight, something that the cat met with a raised paw, asking for him to back up for a moment.
"Er, Mikemon," Luke interjected. "I know how you want to respond, but could you dial it back just a touch?" The cat's ear twitched, the doctor giving a sigh. Right, he almost forgot himself there. With a level tone, the doctor gave his response:
"Just because something is altered doesn't mean its corrupted. And just because something isn't corrupted doesn't mean its desirable, either. Of course, the affliction is still devastating, but calling it the wrong name isn't going to help you in the medical world." That was all well-and-good, but it was far from the main point:
"And I have not violated your rights, nor have I revealed anything confidential. Examining your surface data to try and get a better understanding of the condition is perfectly ethical for a data professional in a do-or-die situation. And as this is a matter of national security, I'm not going to abide by your wishes."
He turned to face the group: "That goes for all of you, as well as the crew. I will be keeping an eye on all of you to look for signs of 'corruption'. Understanding how it takes hold will let me know how to cure it, and catching signs earlier will let me treat it more effectively."
Mikemon was adamant about this - he did not like to be chided about his job! Iko gave a sigh, shaking his head as he turned to face the Scopemon. "Let's get this show on the road, already..."

Oboro was officially bored. He wasn't able to grasp why people had to continue talking instead of just going and getting the job done. He started wandering around the room, playing with his tag and crest. Gomamon picked up on this quickly, and turned to the others.
"I hate to be a party pooper," he sighed, "but we really need to keep moving, otherwise I'm not going to be able to ensure my Tamer's focus." He knew they should be patient, but if Oboro was allowed to go off into his own little world they'd be borderline useless.

"...I agree with the kid, we should get going and get this show on the...buoys. Yeah." Coolmon gulped. She didn't seem to like the air here too much now. It's getting tense and...tense is not good for something as serious sounding as this.
What if that corruption seeped to her? She had a feeling it wouldn't but...What if it did? What'd happen?
...It's not gonna happen, hopefully. They were gonna finish this thing off and it was gonna be okay and...Yeah.

"Agreed, let's get going so we can try and stop this. We have a decent plan and an objective, now we just need the actions being carried out." After he said this, he immediately took a swig of the rum that was handed to him, choking on it for a second and coughing it up. Instead of trying to take large swigs, he just sipped a little. This alcohol stuff tasted so... Weird.
The birds both were ready to go, with Bibi putting her wings together as if she were cracking her non-existent knuckles.
Faluo put his wings together as if he was crossing his arms, "We're ready to act when everyone else is. The kid there is right."

...There's something that honestly snapped in Tetsu. Even more than Gryz, he was furious where the situation goes. So is it childish to ask for something like at least understanding how sensitive it is? Not to mention that people seem to just want to skip directly to the action part? Yes? Oh whatever, he's not going to stay silent anymore. Before Gryz could move or even utter a word, the boy stopped him and pulled him away from the table.
"...Well then, excuse me and my bear for overcomplicating this. Clearly that we're too stupid for this sort of talk, yes?" Tetsu said, smiling. Obviously it does not reach his eyes, as there's clear hostility in it. "Let's do the final checking before departing then, Gryz. We gotta kick some asses."
For this little checking, Tetsu took a the corner of the room. There's nothing much to do, only checking some minor adjustments, such as RAM Upgrades and various other stuff. He found out that apparently he also can check the disturbance level in Gryz' core. Currently, it's stable at 10% corruption. Tetsu was so focused on his task that he didn't look up to Gryz before the bear gently pat his shoulder.
"...Tetsu, bud... When the time came, and we're in dire need... you know what to do, right?"
"...We won't know what would happen if we were to unleash that side of you there," Tetsu pointed out. "Anyway, I've installed two RAM Upgrades---"
"Make it four."
Tetsu froze, but with how determined his partner looked...
"...Alright... four. Installed."
"Thanks lil bud. 'lrite, let's go out there!"

"Yeah, sure, you do that" Scopemon said, a bit lost about what Mikemon was talking about. Pandamon would be willing to talk about it later, he supposed. He at least appreciated proper bureaucratic process.
Mikemon seemed adamant on his stance. Scopemon folded his arms, unhappy with the situation. Eventually he came to a decision. "Do what you have to do, Doctor, but I'd advise you don't interfere with the main objective, or else we're all gonna be sunk out there".
The last thing he needed was for this hired crew to be distracted by bickering at a critical moment. He needed them all to concentrate on the high seas. It seemed that they were all willing to get the show on the road. Scopemon was delighted.
"Alright then, everyone, follow me" he said, putting down his drink and headed outside to the wharf. "The Chutzpah's got a bit of a bite itself. We've got 8 anti ship missiles, a 76mm cannon, and 2 machine guns to play with. Pandamon wants the ship captured for study, but if we gotta sink it, that's what we're gonna do".
Scopemon certainly didn't intend to sit there like a sitting duck while a hostile ship ripped him apart at point-blank range. It wasn't long before they arrived at the boat in question, its sleek grey streamlined armored hull driving a rather imposing image in the harbor of Whitewater.
"Captain boarding!" a digimon on the boat announced.
Scopemon stepped up the gangway, then turned to the others. "Welp, here we go. When you're ready, we'll be setting off to whatever this thing is".
When all were on the boat, the SS-Chutzpah would pull in its moorings and prepare to set sail for the open sea ahead to the South.

Well, that was certainly a way to cause a scene, wasn't it? With Tetsu's response, there was more than enough for the cat to keep harping, but even he had a limit. For the moment, he didn't even grace Gryz nor him with eye contact, the Mikemon just giving a shrug.
The Scopemon, however, earned a nod. "Well, not going to be of much use on the ride over, but..."
"Right, right." Iko cut in, the wolf and Luke following the Scopemon out. The armaments itself sounded impressive - even if only Luke understood exactly what all of that meant - but the three would soon pull themselves up to board. They would settle in as directed; otherwise, the Mikemon would keep himself hunkered low, as the other two took a brief look around.
"You know how to use any of this?" Iko blinked at the dashboard, then towards the weaponry.
"A little," Luke shrugged, "But only by design, not practice. Hopefully we won't need to figure out too much of it."

Oboro and Gomamon didn't really want to get mixed up in the conversation, so they quietly followed along and boarded the ship. They had hardly even introduced themselves to the others, but Gomamon figured that hardly mattered. They were only here for a job, after all. Pleasantries could come after they finished the task at hand.
The ship pulled out, and the two of them settled in. Gomamon was normally excited to be out in open water, but he could sense something...foul in the water.

Wow, things were starting to get a little tense. However. Coolmon felt like she recognized more voices than she thought...Specifically Bibi and Faluo's.
That one time with the Dobermon where she passed out came to mind. Well, it was nice seeing them again except she didn't really know them too well. No matter. People were getting defensive, so the pink lapine opted to do what usually works. "Okay, we need to calm down and focus. Anchors are about to be aweighed and I don't wanna be left in the port on my first actual mission, so...C'mon, let's rock and roll."
With that, Coolmon set forth to board the Chutzpah and try looking off the side only to find she was a bit too short for that.
Rats.

Timothy glanced around at everyone getting ready to go and gave a smirk. It was time they got to work. What was the worse that could happen? He got up tried to take another sip of the alcohol, only to cough it up, "Welp... Let's go." He put down the alcohol and decided not to touch that again.
Bibi got up from where she was sitting and lead the way for the trio, happily running ahead. She felt very much ready for this, hopefully everything would work out well.
Faluo followed to Timothy's side, he was less excited and more ready for battle. He felt as though this was gonna turn out really bad, and would be yelling at Bibi for being so excited, had he had the time. At the moment, he was more focused on getting aboard the ship and heading out.

(OOC: Yuuki asked me to skip Tetsu's turn, so, here we go).
With the hired help safely on board, it seemed everything was ready. The SS-Chutzpah would now set out to sea. The moorings were released, the anchor raised, and the crew proceeded to get the light warboat ready to face the open sea.
With the main engines engaged, Scopemon leaned against the wall in the bridge, while his crew handled the necessary nautical arrangements. He addressed the humans and digimon aboard.
"It's gonna be a while before we reach the target area, so I'd advise you get comfortable for a bit" he said. "If what I hear is right, once we reach the target zone, it's gonna be a hell of a crisis. So just making this clear, if I'm issuing orders, don't interrupt me. If I say you do something, you do it. I just want to reiterate that. If you don't, we're all going to end up on the bottom, and none of us want that".
He spoke this with a rather odd seriousness that broke his usual character of being something of an eccentric lunatic. These were words spoken from a more official figure.
"Now then. While we have the chance, I want each of you to make sure to speak exactly what your capabilities are. Humans as well as digimon. I want to know exactly how each of you can respond to a crisis. I want to know that, if in an emergency, who I can rely on to get a specific job done. We'll go one at a time. I know my crew's specialties, but I don't know yours. So, lay them on me".
As the Chutzpah left Whitewater Harbour and entered the open sea, there would be plenty of time for each to discuss this.
