Glad that Cion could understand, yet a bit sad about the development with Gotsumon, Amelie didn't have much of a choice in the matter. Her best bet was to hope Gotsumon would listen to reason while they were on their way, and maybe, just maybe... let Carrie live her life the way she wanted to.
However, she hadn't expected the answer she had gotten. Nor the slap that had collided squarely with her cheek. The suddenness of the event left the brunette completely befuddled, barely touching the area hit by Gotsumon with her hand while gazing at her friend with an expression that conveyed surprise and hurt.
No. This wasn't her friend. That had been the last straw; There were things that she could permit from the spirit, but this? This was way off limits. The previously confused expression now was as fiery as the red hue that was beginning to spread around the cheek that had been hit. "Excuse me. Your human? You aren't anyone's owner; you're just a pile of rocks that finds entertainment in making a decent human being's life difficult. And if you wanna bet, you're on. I haven't kicked your ass yet because that'd be mean for Catherine, but I won't waste the chance if you're so eager about it!"
Amy knew a rookie-level would be outmatched, and she felt that, in a strange twist of fate, would have all the support she could want in this endeavor. For that very reason, she was pretty much dying to get the ball rolling. "Can't you just see!? School is among Catherine's greatest joys! What has made her skittish and afraid has been you taking control of her body from one moment to the next without her having any real say on the matter! Do you think that's something nice to experience? It's freaking awful, and you're the one responsible for that."
Okay, stop with the self-righteous chatter. Time for things to get serious; the brunette's right hand dug into her pocket right away and the next step would become fairly obvious. "I have one condition on my own, though; evolve and face me directly. Or are you so afraid to stand up on your own that you have to use my friend's body to hit me? That's both disgusting and cowardly; didn't know you were capable of falling so low."
If that wasn't able to rile the digimon to fight, probably nothing would.

There was a brief moment were Cion barely noticed what was going on between Amelie, Carrie and their spirits. After all, she too had a personal life that demanded her attention, and with the idea that she was not seeing them again anyway, she instead shifted her focus to her fancy smartphone. With no desire to arrive late at Terminus, she calmly informed everyone else to not wait for her at the railway station. No wishing to await another Trailmon for over a hour, the decision had been made to fly. It was a much faster way of transportation in any case, and the view was always fantastic.
Unfortunately, that impetus ceased to be immediately as the Arniomon's ears peaked, her soul wincing upon hearing the distinct noise of something, or rather someone, getting hit. With her maw ever so slightly open, the silver fennec tilted her head towards the duo of young ladies and the fierce discussion they were having. It was then that she realized that the possessed spirit-wielder had struck Amy's face. Despite her taking it with valor, this and the absolutely unacceptable, inconsiderate and ruthless behaviours and choice of words enraged the restrained cosmic warden to an unimaginable amount.
There were many things the ancient beast managed to accept as part of some individuals' idiosyncrasies, but this primitive, dominant attitude of Gotsumon was nothing short of impermissible. "Excuse you!" The tiny fox vociferously interfered in the verbal clash of the two female humans without hesitation, firmly yet gracefully approaching them and coming to a halt a mere feet in front of the lady of average size. "You will do no less than properly address me as Cion; you will adequately ask for my assistance - and refrain from lashing out again. Fail to comply with common decency and Amy will be the least of your problems."
It was probably an odd sight, but it was evident that the Arniomon had no problem standing up for herself and those she considered pleasant, kind acquaintances. Difference in size or not, she was obviously as afraid of the specter as she was willing to tolerate its boorish, uncivilized conduct - not a single bit. More than pure evil Cion loathed infinite hubris, an attribute the spirit clearly embodied. Yet... she still managed to carry herself with a stance and voice that was appropriate for a sophisticated warrior and aunt of goodwill and charm, for she did not want to be compared to the hostile sack of ego in front of her.
Although if it had not been for her ire, the exemplary member of PROFIT would have likely supported Amelie's retort more, as she did agree with absolutely everything the fair maiden had stated. Despots had to be pollarded, no matter how they wished it to happen.

Gotsumon took out the digivice and waved it tauntingly. "You want to fight a digimon? Fine! S-Spirit to S-spirit and I will win!" Within a brief flash, the digimon replaced the human's form and pocketed the digivice once more. "Carrie cries at night, she cries about how terrible her school work is, about how much of a terrible digimon and partner I am, about how much the world is unfair! I have to sit there and play therapist for HOURS every night!"
She turned to Cion. "Alright, Cion, have it your way." She said his name like one would say the name of an ex-wife or that annoying kid at school. "But know this Amelie, she's been even worse since she met you, because now she's thinking about you a lot more than usual. Her grades are dropping and her parents are getting worried about her, because now her mind and her voices all begin thinking about you..."
"Now digivolve and fight, show me what kind of freaks you have on your leash." Carrie begins crying in Gotsumon's head. The digimon strikes her skull and laughs. "You can't break my rocks! You don't have the stones!"
*Gotsumon, please, stop! There's still time to go back!* "Shut up Carrie!" *This isn't right, we-* And Gotsumon ignored her. The digimon fell oddly silent as she stared down her opponent, all the memories of her battles filling her (and Carrie's?) head. One on one was never her strong suit, she was better with crowd control and large-level assaults. She'd need to focus.

For what probably would be the last time, Amelie decided to humor Gotsumon; humor by waving her hand in a dismissive, yet taunting way. "You could just be sensible and try to make her feel better instead of bearing with her as if she were some sort of burden, you know? Complaining about how much she complains doesn't really make all that much sense, you know? Human beings can be sad and distressed and school can be a really stressing place at times! And as I said. You. Are. Not. Making. It. Any. Better. Do I have to spell it out to you? Start to behave like freaking mentor instead of a spoiled child. Aren't you supposed to centuries old, anyway?"
However, the brunette couldn't deny that she had been caught off-guard by her next statement. Been worse since she met her? Thinking about... her more than usual? "Wait, why would she think about me that much? I'm just a friend. Nothing more, nothing less."
Maybe this was just a silly strategy to throw her off-balance. Amy wasn't going to fall for something as simple as that. Gripping her D-Tector, the spirit wielder manifested a circle of fractal code around her right hand. She spun it, and soon enough, the teenager's visage was replaced by the hulking form of Siftermon.
S-Spirit against S-Spirit? Amelie hadn't ever agreed to play fair, and it wasn't like she had controlled her evolution, anyway. Without even giving out a warning, a blast of fire surged from one of the digimon's limbs, racing directly towards Gotsumon. —Blaze Blast: Shoots a stream of fire at a target, aiming to damage them and those standing close to them for an AoE range of 5m.

Although not truly part of this silly clash the spirit of Carrie and Amy were having, she too got involved for several reasons despite being mostly ignored. Above all was her obligation as an ancient sentinel to assure peace and civilness among people of society - then came protecting others from the vile clutches of fiendish despots and savages. Unfortunately, it was difficult to classify this situation since the Gotsumon was... neither civilized nor powerful enough to pose a threat to anyone but its wielder. Yet as an exemplary member of PROFIT, adaptability had to be a main skill of her.
Cion sighed, accepting the chaotic digimon's quarterhearted apology for the mere fact that it complied with her disposition. Shaking her head, the Arniomon calmly came to terms with her role as referee of this conflict, listening to the continued contest of words the two enemies were having. Eventually, Amelie took up the mantle of her specter within, wishing nothing less but to put that of her friend into its place - an understandable impetus. However, to the silver fennec's shocking surprise, the unknown entity called Siftermon did so without consideration of the environment they were in.
Her eyes widening, Cion did the only thing that was right as an active conciliator - she intervened before the circumstances escalated. Just as the tiny warden saw the projectile of fire manifesting inside her palm, it was with nearly the speed of sound that she leap towards Amy, or whatever was left of her. As the fiery beam got launched at the Gotsumon, the Arniomon showed one of her palms and blocked the attack after it had traveled barely an inch. Fading into amber sparks, the good-natured fox bore a translucent barrier around her frame which had easily nullified the ability.
Mighty... but nowhere near the peak of the spirit-wielder's potential strength. Stages of digivolution seperated them still, which made her task of being a ref simple.
Gracefully landing on the paws of her hind legs, Cion cleared her throat and silently motioned everyone to take a second to consider their surroundings. A Trailmon, many stranded passengers... not an optimal spot for a duel. Briefly looking with disappointed at Amelie for letting herself be controlled by her passion turned dander, the time had nonetheless come to determine the rules.
"You will not fight in the presence of innocent bystanders. As the chosen referee and a general protector, this rule is declared absolute and permanent. Hence you will only battle in the arena I designate. Fail to comply and I will end your struggle in an instant and without demureness." The restrained mercenary stated, leaving no room for possible objections. Giving both participants a dunning look, she nodded and slowly took her first steps towards a distant location with smooth terrain and no sign of life in sight. "Understood? Then please follow me."
Now there were two options for the rivals to take. Either they adhered to her authority and desire for goodwill and could proceed with their clash under agreeable conditions - or they did not which would demand her intervention. The call to make was theirs, but the Arniomon would not allow the harm of innocent people to occur.

"Age is just a number, and I think Carrie'll be heartbroken to hear that..." She taunted again.
Gotsumon grinned at the new creature, cracking her knuckles. "Come on, hit me, hit m-" She found herself interrupted by the digimon quickly letting loose a powerful attack, thankfully she'd made the good choice in a referee, as Cion blocked the move with incredible speed. Unfortunately, he then began talking about something about... fairness and safety and... all that stuff she found dull. It was a duel, not a game of chess! Until she noticed the crowd of people.
"Oh... right, the innocents. That was kinda why I started as a human, I guess..." She confessed to having screwed up, a rare first on her part. The fox began walking away and made it clear the two should follow. Gotsumon looked at siftermon, slightly confused and worried. That wasn't like Amelie at all, had she misread the little girl's intentions? Had she taken the wrong bet? No. No, she'd never lost in over 500 battles and the one she did lose was... well, that was where her grave was stuck until Carrie and her friend had found her. Where was that kid anyways? Maybe she should'a tried talking to her. Sure she was probably still only a kid but it'd have been nice to had a friend of her own.
She turned her back to Siftermon, thinking on everything that brought her here. Maybe Amelie was right, she'd gone a little crazy and just needed a hobby... she grinned, knowing full well that was definitely a speech that'd get her off the hook with the two girls.

That, undoubtedly, had been quite the showstopper. Yeah, sure; Amelie hadn't had into account the innocent lives around her and the possible collateral damage, yet still found Cion's intervention... meddlesome, so to say. The faster she could wreck Gotsumon, the the quicker she'd learn that her place wasn't at the top of the world, constantly disrespecting others. Not to say, the element of surprise was ruined. Oh well, no point in crying over spilled pink.
Instantly, the digimon devolved back to its human form, the brunette nodding once towards Cion, and following her without asking further questions. She had felt the power that she could brandish; simply overwhelming, and that was exciting in its own way. Was this the most powerful being that she had met, and almost by chance? Definitely an interesting development. It piqued her curiosity, but Amy would leave the questions for later.
Where were they going, anyway? It wasn't like they could find a place completely devoid of digital and wildlife.

For as much as Cion did not care for the combatants opinion on her intervention, she was equally as glad to know that they complied with her decision without resistance. Oddly enough, it was actually the possessed spirit-wielder who displayed for once more common sense and courtesy compared to the otherwise kind Amy. Not paying these thoughts, including the constant shifting of forms of the two rivals, attention for long, the Arniomon lead them away from the broken Trailmon and its passengers to a location that suited their desires better. After all, collateral damage had to be avoided if they lost themselves in the fray.
A quarter of an hour went by in absolute silence, and the moment aforementioned bystanders were a mere silhouette at the edge of their horizon was the same the silver fennec abruptly stopped. A small plateau, its ground squishy yet sufficiently solid to stand on, and no other creature or larger plant in sight. Considering they were in a bayou, this was probably as optimal of a battlefield as it could get. If both Amelie and Gotsumon still sought to fight despite the environment they were in, then there was not a lot Cion could do about it...
except of course enforcing a strict system of rules. Sighing quietly, the ancient warden turned to the fighters and met them with a firm gaze and stance. "This 'arena', far away from spectators, will suffice. Nonetheless we'll keep this clash civil. No fatal harm - capitulation in any way leads to an immediate end of all violence - and please keep derision to a minimum, will you?" She declared, the last rule being more or less an appeal to everyone's goodwill than an actual law. Nodding, the motioned the two participants to position themselves at a location of their choosing.
Once this had happened, the Arnimon raised her arm high for everyone to see. "3... 2... 1... Go!!!" She shouted at the top of her lungs, immediately making a massive leap backwards as to not get involved in the battle without the need to interfere.

"...Capitulation? Derision?" Gotsumon looked at Arnimon with great confusion. "You're making words up, that's not fair!" She stood at a distance from Amy, frowning. The enemy's power was incredible, her defensive plays would end with her being hardened to diamond if she continued with them. Mind games were out since he wanted "civility", and all the swamplands around them made Earthshaker unpredictable... which meant the same thing to her opponent. A plan formed in her head, taking in all of her surroundings. Lots of mud, a few plants, and her enemy.
She stood determined as her feet and legs began sinking into the mud, rolling a flat stone in her left hand, taken from her lower spine. The second he said go, she started with her opening move. "EARTH SHAKER!" All the mud surrounding them jiggled violently like a large bowl of chocolate pudding. Then, she fell backwards into the vibrating sludge, letting her body sink to the bottom in the tremors. To the naked eye, it looked like she was gone.

After that small whiplash in the mood, there wasn't much left besides restarting the fight. Yup, this time Gotsumon had the first move, and yup, this time Amelie would have to think more thoroughly than just trying to 'gotcha' her into submission.
Now that Gotsumon had begun with her first movement and just disappeared into sight; Amelie seized the moment to initiate her spirit evolution into Siftermon. From one moment to the next, she'd disappear into the air, becoming temporarily invisible, and hoping for Gotsumon to reappear from the muddy terrain of the bayou. Question was, how much time would have to pass for the rookie-level to emerge from his hideout under the ground.
What would be her strategy once that happened? The digimon wasn't really sure, but thus far, reproducing the exact same attack than the first time seemed to be a decent plan. Would it be good enough? She certainly hoped so.

"No I didn't, just... urgh... accept when someone gives up and keep quiet, will ya?" She asked rhetorically for she did not tolerate any other response than consent. Slightly annoyed due to having lowered her standard of vocabulary for the sake of the Gotsumon, Cion sighed and composed herself again. After all, she had to maintain her focus now that she was the referee of the spirit's and Amy's clash.
Hence there was no reason for her to speak up or do anything as long as her intervention was not required. So she stood there, watching silently as the keeper of peace she was.

Gotsumon's stones rolled underneath the cover of mud, her movements almost untraceable had she not bumped into a cattail plant ever so slightly... She reappeared behind Amelie, about to shout something; perhaps an "A-ha!" or a "Behind you~" but as she showed up silently, her opponent had vanished just as quickly. She panicked and looked around, trying not to move too much and give away her new position, even looking at Cion for a slightly extended time before she noticed something: the mud where Amelie had been standing still had her bootprints from where she was. Taking a wild guess, gotsumon palmed a stone that used to be part of her left shoulder in her right hand and tossed as hard as she could.
"Angry rock!"

Gotsumon would find herself on the receiving end of some tough luck; aiming... aimlessly wasn't going to bring her anywhere. Siftermon found herself observing the rookie's movements, trying to measure the likely movements. Swiftly, she began to close the gap between its form and Gotsumon's.
Would she be prepared, Would she not? There was no way for it to know, but once she was close enough, the digimon fell down on top of Gotsumon with its full mass; the intent was clear. To take down the digimon, and probably grapple her between its tendrils. Overpowering the stone-based being would probably not be super hard, given the whole level difference there was between them.
This movement would break her invisibility, of course, and, if that wasn't successful, however, she'd still try to seize the size and power advantage by trying to grapple against the rookie. How that would go? That was at anyone's guess.

Gotsumon let out an unusual "hurk!" noise upon being landed atop of, her mind running through many thoughts as she tried in vain to keep her balance, her unconnected rocky body slowly collapsing under the weight.
*She can fly?! Of course she can fly, she floats, how hard would it be for her to fly?* Tendrils wrapping around her, Gotsumon did the only thing she could think of. She grabbed them and fell backwards, recalling something like this happening on late-night pro wrestling, the digimon really, really hoped there was a rock or something to crack this... THING against, but either way, she was 99% sure this thing still had to breath and mud is not known for being oxygenated.

Well, that had worked out perfectly, even if getting the upper hand when considering a whole level difference was borderline bullying. But did that matter? Not Siftermon, and neither for Amelie at the moment. The only thing the digimon really cared about was putting Gotsumon in her place, once and for all, that desire burning at the edges of her mind, and mayyybe clouding the girl's judgment a bit.
She saw that as a small price to pay, however. As the mud around them withered due to Siftermon's mere presence. The monstrosity didn't know, or maybe didn't care about how much strength would be enough, but still began to concentrate heat at the tip of one of its tendrils, preparing to release a blazing salvo against the Gotsumon that at this point was at point blank range. It'd probably injure her a fair bit, but did it care? Chances was that it didn't.
