"It is unusual for a stomach to make such noises," Gabumon told Agumaru. "I would get it checked out... unless it's an 'Agumon' thing, which I doubt it is." He gave up trying to argue the fact that he was a ToyAgumon.
The three of them looked over to where Agumaru pointed, and sure enough, there was a tree just full of meat apples. Being absolutely starving, Agumon and Gabumon immediately ran towards the tree, with Rebecca walking up at a reasonable pace. She grabbed a meat apple from the tree.
"So this would taste like steak?" Rebecca asks before taking a bite. Gabumon saw her do this, and immediately tried to stop her. "WAIT, DON'T-"
Too late. The meat apple tasted like steak, alright... steak fresh from the grocery store's freezer. Rebecca immediately turned blue and spit out the chunk of apple.
"You can't eat them raw..." Agumon says as he sweatdrops. "Trust me on that."
Agumaru shrugs, not worrying about his belly sounds. "Eh, lived with them this long, doesn't seem to be a problem!" What was a problem is why it is making the noise -growing hunger. Luckily, he was right about the meat apple tree he saw.
It was even more beautiful and appetizing close up! So many meat apples to eat, so little time for Agumaru to choose one before the hunger gets too much and he'll have to eat them all! He jumps up and knocks one out of the tree. He flips and rotates it around a few times, making sure there weren't any bruises, rotting, or insect Digimon damage. He gets ready to cook it, but...
Perhaps he should've warned White Wolf not to eat it raw. He shudders, looking at her with pity. "Sorry... didn't think you...are you all right? Some Digimon can eat these things without cooking them, but I don't think any of us here could...or at least should."
"Funny how you yourself aren't even curious about them."
"So that's what raw meat tastes like..." Rebecca mutters after spitting out the bite, anime tears running down her face.
"Alright, so we know where the meat apples are... much to Rebecca's distaste, but now we need to find a way to cook it. We'll split up into two teams. Agumaru and I will head deeper into the forest, and search for firewood. Agumon, you stay here with Rebecca to try and search for firewood around here."
"And I'm assuming to comfort her after she ate a raw meat apple?"
"...yes. That too. Come, Agumaru." Gabumon grabs Agumaru's arm and the two head a bit deeper into the forest. "Search for anything you can that could be used for a fire."
Meanwhile, back at the meat apple tree, Agumon was trying to walk with Rebecca. "So... how old are you, in human years?"
"I'm seventeen... I graduate high school next year."
"Eh." Agumaru shrugs, not the least bit curious about his lack of curiosity about his belly sounds. They're no big deal, right? They certainly don't mean anything is different about him from a normal Agumon.
Agumaru agrees with Gabumon in the search for firewood. He is however visibly worried. Agumaru goes along with Gabumon, nervously looking back. "Will White Wolf be all right alone," he asks. "I mean... not alone, but with your brother, but still... he doesn't seem the most eager to protect her, and he's only one Digimon. Can he handle it?"
It was time to look for firewood. They were in the middle of the forest, so it shouldn't be too hard.Trees lose branches all the time. So begins Agumaru's search for usable, burnable wood. It does not take him long at all to find some - a branch here, a couple there - but finding enough may take a while.
"Fair enough, then. Come, let's go find some firewood before your belly starts playing trombone, or some other kind of instrument." Gabumon joked. Although, he was expecting it to happen as soon as he said it.
Agumaru expressed his worries about if Agumon will protect Rebecca while they were gone. He turned to the Digimon and smirked. "He'll protect her with her life, if he knows what's good for him. Besides, she's not like other humans. She can take care of herself." Then the two got to work in searching for wood. Gabumon was finding plenty of it, in better quality than the ones Agumaru picked up... Gabumon definitely knew how to search.
Meanwhile, Rebecca is trying to explain to Agumon what high school is.
"High school is supposed to be a place that prepares you for the real world. Instead, it's a place where kids pick on you for no reason... I hate it. I hate it all."
"...then why do you go?"
"Because it's required to do anything in the world. Most of the things they teach you is useless, anyways..." Rebecca began sounding more and more sad, as if she wanted to say something but didn't at the same time.
Agumaru chuckles at the thought of his belly making other instrument sounds. "Maybe if I eat a music store," he jokes, then realizes Gabumon probably wouldn't get it. "I mean... if I ate a bunch of...musical instruments...." He sighs softly. They come from such different worlds.
Best to stick to what they have in common - which at this point is their joint mission to gather wood. He rustles through branches, making sure to find dry ones and avoid wood that is still green and fresh. He knew about building fires, after all. While not a Digimon born and raised in the wilderness, he has taught himself quite a few survival skills from training alone. He just needed to hone them in actual survival settings, as most of his training was too close to civilization and in theory rather than practice.
Agumaru was relieved to hear that OrangeAgumon would protect White Wolf. An invisible weight is lifted off of him, his 'muscles' untensing. "She does seem to be a fighter despite what she says, but I think having your brother protecting her is much more reassuring."
At first, Gabumon was confused by Agumaru's words. What was a music store? No, wait, what was a store in general? Thankfully, Agumaru realized this and reworded his statement, which Gabumon definitely had an answer for.
"I'm afraid that isn't how a Digimon's body works. If that was the case, my stomach should make animal sounds since I eat meat. If you did try ingesting various instruments, your stomach would have a terribly tough time digesting it, and it would give you an incredibly terrible tummyache."
After a while, the two had collected a lot of wood to start a fire with. "Alright, I believe this is enough firewood. Shall we make our way back?"
Meanwhile, while Rebecca and Agumon were talking, they heard rustling in the bushes.
Unfortunately, it was not them - it was a group of Gazimon, four of them to be exact. And they did not look friendly.
"Aight, there, buddies... you're going to give us ALL of these meat apples and anything else worth of value on ya's! Or we'll kill ya!"
"Yeah, I know, I know." Agumon tilts his head with a smile. "I was teasing, joking, friendly banter! I didn't eat a xylophone, after all! But I am curious how you know about musical instruments. Are you friends with a Gekomon perhaps?" It was a strange thing to him how they could be unaware of towns and stores but know about music besides singing. Perhaps they've made their own instruments?
Finally, the hard work of collecting firewood was complete. All that was left was to carry it back to the others. It would not be too long a trek, and the thought of delicious cooked meat apples was a strong incentive. "I can't wait to eat my share! I'm sure White Wolf would like the apples better cooked than raw, judging by her reaction!" He laughs softly, though his laughter and smile fade as he sees the unfriendly Gazimon.
"Hey, uh..." Agumaru clears his throat as he approaches, and tries to look both friendly and tough. "Excuse me, but I don't think death threats are necessary. I'm willing to share the apples and spare you a few bits without violence." After the last thief he met turned out to be a good person, and nearly died because of him, he was loath to start a fight. "However... if you reject my offer, I'm afraid I'll have to get mad. And then you won't be the ones doing the outnumbering."
"My brother and I are not completely clueless, Agumaru," Gabumon simply responded. He wanted to sound mysterious... when in reality, they knew because they found a random trumpet in the forest once.
That was not a good day for their ears.
As they were heading back, Gabumon chuckled at what Agumaru said. "Yes, I'm sure she would... meat apples are horrendous when raw. And I think she prefers to be called Rebecca..."
However, things were bad when the two of them got back. One Gazimon was holding onto Rebecca, while two tied up Agumon to the tree, who was struggling to get out. Agumaru tried to make things go a bit easier, but it had the opposite effect.
"Shut it, ya pile o' bricks! Boys, after him!"
The two Gazimon that tied Agumon up then pounced right onto Agumaru, putting him into a prisoner position, while the Gazimon leader leaped right at Gabumon, the two of them tumbling down a nearby hill, leaving the others to fend for themselves.
"LET... ME... GO!" Rebecca yells at the Gazimon who was holding onto her, trying to kick him off, but failing.
"I didn't meant to seem like I thought you were clueless," Agumaru says, blushing slightly from awkwardness. "I was just surprised that there were musical instruments out here."
The subject changes as they head back, returning to talk of meat apples. "Well... some Digimon might actually like raw meat apples. I'm...not one of them." He shudders, the blocks on him that aren't green become tinted as such for a second. He shakes it off and continues carrying the wood back.
However, he drops it upon meeting the Gazimon. "Very well, I gave you a chance." He prepares to use his countering move - Fancy Star - only to be caught off-guard by the Gazimon's quickness. Two of them had already grappled him! "Hm." He decides to use the move anyways, summoning his magical stars close to his body, between him and the two Gazimon. "FAAANCYYY..." Due to the stars instantly being in contact with enemy Digimon - unless the Gazimon let go and move out of range - they explode outwards in an attempt to counter and knock the foes back. "STAAAAR!" =========================================== Fancy Star on cooldown - 3 turns remaining
If Agumaru had any food in his system, the Fancy Star attack would have sent the two Gazimon flying off of him. Unfortunately, there wasn't any, so the attack was only one third of its usual strength, giving the Gazimon no more than a sting. Nonetheless, they still held on.
"HAHAHAHAHA!" One of the Gazimon laughed. "Looks like you're not at full strength! And we are - which means WE say what goes down. and YOU will give us all your apples, or WE will kill you all! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!"
That's when Gabumon and the leader Gazimon came back... with Gabumon being dragged by Gazimon, defeated. Gabumon was too weak as well, so he was totally unconscious. And Agumon was not only weak, but tied up. The Gazimon really did have them in a situation here...
"I... said... LET ME GO!" Rebecca screamed, successfully flipping over to send her guard right into the ground. Getting up, she observed her situation:
Four Gazimon. Three weakened Digimon... and her. She grabbed some soot and smeared it over her eyes, making it look like a mask. She kept looking at the ground...
"She's FREE! Get the human!"
"My name..." she says coldly, looking up and looking like a totally different person now. "...is White Wolf."
Agumaru could not even get the two Gazimon to let go, and it seems that the only one left standing was the human. OrangeAgumon was tied up. Gabumon was defeated. There were too many Gazimon. Despite White Wolf's relative strength for a human, there was no way she could fight them off. Not even a fully grown human with martial arts training could handle four of the Gazimon! It seemed they were doomed.
And yet Agumaru could not give up. He was just too stubborn. He could not let the human give up everything she has with her, and there was no guarantee that the Gazimon wouldn't just delete and load the Digimon after taking everything.
"I'm sorry everyone," Agumaru sadly says, "You might have to see an Agumon get deleted. I don't know if I even have the strength to do this without consequences but when has the chance of harming myself ever stopped me, eh?"
The tiny dinosaur grappled by the Gazimon grows while surrounded by light. It is unlikely they would be able to hang onto him as he did so. "Agumaru Armor Digivolve To..." He changes shape as armor appears and snaps to parts of the glowing figure. When the light fades, the 'Agumon' was gone. In his place was a blue platypus, armored on tail, head, beak, shoulders and legs. Barbs on his legs show that he means business.
"Platymon, the Determined Duckmole!" Indeed, there was a look of grim determination on the 'duckmole's' face. He tenses up as water seems to be pulled from the air to around his tail. He swishes his tail to the left, then swings hard in a 360 degree spin to strike at the two that had been - or still are - restraining him. "WATER HAMMER! Gh... don't say I didn't warn you."
Agumon was amazed to see White Wolf's heel-face turn like that. "Rebecca..."
"Call me White Wolf... and I'm gonna make these rabbit freaks pay!" White Wolf then grabbed the same nearby stick she used to smack Agumon and Agumaru with earlier. "Bring it on!"
If the Gazimon didn't think that was bad enough, the ones holding Agumaru had to let go when he began to armor digivolve. When Platymon was there, the Gazimon looked at the two enemies.
"Alright! You two, go after the human! You, we'll take on the overgrown duck!"
The two Gazimon nod, and run after the human. It then began a two-on-one fight, with White Wolf using crazy bo staff techniques to combat the two Digimon.
The leader and second-in-command then attempt to run towards Agumaru - that is, until they were both hit by his Water Hammer attack and slam into the tree... causing it to tilt over, nearing close to a very, very long drop.
With Agumon still tied to it.
"AGUMON!" White Wolf yells, swiping the two Gazimon away and jumping onto the tree as it was still falling.
Can humans Digivolve? Agumaru knows there are Spirit Users that can, but White Wolf was not one of them. However her mental transformation seemed almost as drastic as his own physical one. Was this something common to all humans, or just her?
Agumaru has no time to think about this. He had a two-on-one battle to focus on. It was totally unfair - it should have been a three-on-one! He caught the Gazimon completely off-guard, knocking them flying. "Score two for the overgrown duck! Hahaha... ha... uh.... uh-oh."
Platymon did not expect to hit them as far as he did, and definitely not at that trajectory. By striking them into the tree 'OrangeAgumon' was tied to, he put his new sorta-friend in danger! Things get worse when White Wolf tries to save him. The green of the Platymon becomes pale, beak hanging open slightly. He bends his knees and shoots himself towards the tipping tree with a mighty jump, hoping to reach them in time. ========================================= Water Hammer cooldown complete No moves on cooldown
"Agumon, just hold on! I'm coming to get you!" White Wolf says as she climbs the slowly falling tree. Once she reached the majorly scared orange dinosaur, she quickly untied him and grabbed onto him. "Come on!"
"I... I can't! I'm scared, Rebecca!"
"And you think I'm not?! I'm absolutely terrified! But we'll both die if we don't go NOW!" She dragged Agumon with her, but that was when the tree was nearly close to falling. Picking him up and putting Agumon on her back, White Wolf runs down the base of the tree and jumps, extending her hand towards Agumaru...
And just barely missing, grabbing onto the edge of the cliff with her right hand. "Don't worry; we're fine! Just pull us up!"
However, before Agumaru could, three Gazimon piled on top of him, holding him into place while the leader walks up to White Wolf.
"If only you did as we asked, you could've all lived... goodbye, human." Then, just like that, Gazimon stomps onto White Wolf's hand, causing her to immediately let go.
Both her and Agumon screamed as they fell to their doom...
A few seconds later, something came swooping up. There was a shadowy figure in the sky, which came closer and closer to Agumaru and the Gazimon, both White Wolf and Agumon in his hands.
"Son of Yggdrasil, it's Angemon! Run!" After that, all four Gazimon gave up and ran away back into the woods, just as Angemon set the human and Digimon safely on the ground. Agumaru seemed to know this Angemon, but could he put his finger on it?
