Journey of Answers (Adrian/Rebecca/Leith)

In the morning of the day after that event with Leith, Adrian and Shoutmon were waiting by the Shibuya River waiting for their companions to arrive.
"How much longerrrr?" Shoutmon whined, which made Adrian roll his eyes a bit.
"We got here, like, five minutes ago. You can wait that long, stop being a baby about it... hey look, there comes White Wolf now!"
Just like Adrian said, a beautiful 17 year old girl with white hair and a black eye mask came walking up, along with her Agumon and Gabumon partners. She had heard that Adrian was bringing another friend with him, so she thought that she'd start up the act in the human world too. And thus, White Wolf was now here.
"Hey Adrian, how goes it?" White Wolf asked. "Your friend is still coming, right?"
"Yeah, they're coming," Adrian says. "Although I wouldn't bring up any family related things at the moment."
"Wasn't planning on doing so."

Leith tried his best to get the math right on the arrival time, but he could only be so accurate from within the digital world. In fact, the young man always considered himself a very punctual person. So, when his watch began working again upon riding into the human world, he cried, "Shit! We are definitely gonna be late, guys! Fuck, I hope they don't get too pissed..."
"Leith, just send them a message," Veemon suggested from inside the V-Pet on Leith's wrist, "They'll understand."
"Yeah, well... I'm still not thrilled with myself." He then told his digivce, "Tell Adrian, 'I'm running late, but I just made it to the real world and I'm on my way. Won't make it until like 12:45." At least this time, Leith managed to keep his word; he was finding himself by the river portal right when he said he would. "Guys! Hey, I'm real sorry I'm... Oh."
"Wait, his girlfriend's a Tamer, too?" Shoutmon blurted out from the digivice.
"I guess... but why are we meeting here? And don't you think it's a bit reckless to let digimon walk around out here?"

"Oh there he is," Adrian says as he sees the metalhead Tamer run up to the group. "There you are, right on time!" Suddenly, Leith's Shoutmon blurted out and assumed White Wolf was Adrian's girlfriend.
"Excuse me?" White Wolf asked. "I am NOT his girlfriend. I am just a friend. A friend that will kick your butt if you say something like that again."
"Calm, White Wolf," Gabumon says, before facing Leith. "Hello there. I believe we met at Adrian's birthday party. I'm Gabumon, and that one there is my brother Agumon."
"What's up?"
"And this is White Wolf, our Tamer that whoever just spoke royally 'pissed her off,' as humans say."
Leith made quite a good point, which was asking why they were meeting here. "There's a portal here that'll take us to where we are trying to go," Adrian says. "I don't know its location, so this is the best way we're getting there."
And just like that, the group would then jump right into the Shibuya River portal, disappearing from the human world...

"Wait, what?" Shoutmon protested, "He called us all the way out here so we could just wind up in some random part of the digital world? We could'a just done that ourselves!"
"Don't tell him that," Leith advised. He then pinched his nose with his thumb and first finger to try and help cope with the smell of the river, then stepped forward and dropped right into the river. At least the smell didn't last long; he soon found himself in the middle of an expansive forest. "Huh... that sure beats last time we tried this. Guys, realize." As Shoutmon and Veemon each gave their little acknowledgements to the others, Leith remarked, "Oh, wait a minute. I think I kinda remember you. You're..." Leith apparently had been keeping that list Adrain gave him close, for he then pulled it out and consulted it. "Oh, yeah! Adrian told me your name was Rebecca, so I got a bit confused. But alright, 'white wolf.' I ain't gonna judge the furry thing."
"Alright, alright. We're in the middle of nowhere of the digital world. Now what?" Shoutmon bluntly demanded.

When the group jumped into the river, they ended up in the Server Woods. Not just anywhere in the woods, however; this area had a bunch of run down buildings. Some just rotted away with time, others completely falling apart. It looked like a village once stood here...
"Don't say my real name to anybody again without my permission," White Wolf threatened Adrian as Leith mentioned that he knew her real name.
"Anyone else getting creepy vibes from this place?" Agumon asked the group as he looked around the area. However, Shoutmon instantly recognized this place.
"Frontier Valley..." Shoutmon says in a hoarse voice. "That's what this place is called..."
"Wait, how do you know that?" White Wolf asked the red dragon.
"I don't know... that must mean there's evidence around here. We need to look around."
It would probably be at this point that Leith, Veemon and Shoutmon would have no idea what's going on. However, if they want to know, they would ask and they would get answers.

Oh, boy. I think I just got Adrian in trouble. Leith couldn't help but smirk a little, though. I guess we're even for having him drag me in a circle.
At least Veemon was the diplomatic one. "We're sorry, Wolf. It's rude to call someone something they don't want to be called, so we'll use the name you prefer from here on."
"But why's she even-?"
"Let's worry about our own business, Shout." Leith started walking toward Adrian then. "Anyway, nice seeing you guys again... I think. And sorry. But uh..." Just before Adrian and his partner, the young man stopped and crossed his arms with a skeptical look on his face. He didn't seem pleased. "What's the, uh, deal here? You still haven't told us what you're up to. I don't know what you expect us to do until we know what kind of crazy stunt you two are on."
"What he means is," Veemon stepped in, trying his best to cover for Leith's rudeness, "We're ready to help. Just tell us how."

"No no, it's fine..." White Wolf tells the Veemon. "Rebecca is my name, but... ugh, it's complicated. You wouldn't understand... my own Digimon don't even understand yet."
Leith then asked Adrian what the heck they were even doing here. In response, Adrian pulled out a trinket: a broken-off piece of gold armor, with a pink flower wrapped around it.
"You know that Digimon can essentially become reincarnated, right? Well, Shoutmon's been having odd dreams and memories that aren't his lately, and this piece of armor is related to that. Recently, Shoutmon had another memory, about this place specifically. We're here to look for clues."
"So we just basically have to search this place," Shoutmon says as he looks around. "Please bring up anything interesting that you find. I have to find out what happened to me in my previous life."
"But first," Adrian says, looking at Leith's Shoutmon. "We need you to be on the lookout. There's goons following us."

There it was; with a little unconscious flicker of the eyes, Leith company gave themselves away. Both Leith and Shoutmon anxiously glanced at Veemon. Veemon, in turn, swallowed and anxiously met both their gazes before responding to Adrian. "We know what happens to digimon when they..." Apparently, he didn't want to say that last word before moving on. "We'll help, but, Shoutmon, are you saying it happened to you?" Veemon gulped before adding, "And you... you're remembering things? From before?" Though Leith's apprehension was only natural, even Shoutmon surprisingly showed sensitivity to the subject; brash as he could be, he wasn't made of stone. "I... I didn't know that was possible."
This time the hero was Shoutmon. In an unusual show of nobility for him, he ran interference for his friends. "Whatever, right? Hey, whatever keeps me from doin' grunt work is fine by me!" he decided. Then he scampered off, found himself a nice, tall tree to climb in, and started to lay back in it lazily, only idly glancing around. Still, he was no fool. So we're gonna get ambushed, huh? The thought made him clench a fist. Good. I've been waiting a long time to hit something. Oho, if I get an excuse to digivolve... goodnight, Sally.
"Adrian, Shoutmon, I don't appreciate you not telling me the danger here when I agreed to come," Leith scolded, "I hope you don't expect anything from us; we've already established you're way stronger than we are. If shit hits the fan, I can't guarantee we'll be helpful."
"Leith, please," Veemon then interjected, tugging on his Tamer's sleeve. "Let's just go." The young Tamer pursed his lips uncomfortably, but he could tell Veemon wanted to be gone for other reasons than getting the job overwith. So, with one last look to Adrian - a mixture of frustration with his friend and himself - Leith and Veemon headed off. They supposed they'd just know 'anything interesting' when they found it.

'Oh shit, I fucked up didn't I?'
Those were Adrian's thoughts to the reactions Leith and his partners gave about mentioning reincarnation. Veemon especially seemed really be affected by it the most. Shoutmon, White Wolf and the twins all gave Adrian "what did you do?!" looks.
"W-Wait, I didn't- I just- I- I..." Ah crap, there goes Adrian's extroverted side. Usually he'd be pretty good at talking to others... but now? He could barely get a couple of words out. Thankfully, Shoutmon stepped in to direct everyone to their jobs before the situation got worse.
"Just find anything relating to a certain name: RedMagnamon."
As Veemon would search, he'd find nothing that interesting... just run-down buildings, and- wait... if one were to notice the marks on the building, it would indicate that it got.,.. burnt down? And not only that, there was debris everywhere. It seemed like either a massive battle or genocide took place in this town.
Meanwhile, while Shoutmon was keeping an eye out, three figures were spying on the group from a distance, all of which were ultimate level.
"You lost to THESE clowns?" The feminine figure would laugh. "No wonder you brought me along! And bee tee dubs, your story truly made me L-O-L!"
"Just shut up and watch them. We need to find a way to distract that red one, so he can't immediately notify the others when we strike..."

"Veemon?"
"I'm fine."
"I doubt that very much."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because I'm not fine either, but you haven't asked me about it." Veemon ceased trying to kick an oddly stubborn door down to peer over his shoulder at Leith. Instantly, the young man felt extremely guilty, so he clarified, "I-I'm not saying you did something wrong. I just noticed a change of behavior after introduction of a stimulus and drew a conclusion. Normally you can read me like a book and call me when I bullshit my way through negative feelings, so the only reason you can be ignoring that is because you have your own thoughts... which is totally fine. You're your own person, too. So talk."
Veemon bit his lip, but he couldn't lie to his own partner. "I wanna know who I used to be. I haven't remembered anything, but now that I know I had a past life... I wanna know what I did. That Renamon thought I was really important."
Leith raised an eyebrow and admitted, "I... never even thought about that. Maybe we-" Veemon managed to finally get the door down then, interrupting Leith. However, the structure was just a one-room home with no apparent significance.
"There's nothing here. Let's just keep looking."
Leith sighed. He wanted to keep talking, but he knew this was a request not to... an odd request from the most open member of the team. "Deal." So, instead, he flipped on his comms and talked to Shoutmon instead. "Having fun up there?"
"Oh, yeah, havin' a blast. Tons of thrills. The drama, the action, the tension," Shoutmon deadpanned. The chuckle he earned only lifted Leith's mood a little. "Find anything interesting?"
"What do you think? I don't even know what I'm looking for. All I can tell is there are scorch marks all over, and if I know anything about digimon then I know odds are not on the side of a natural fire."

"Can't we just kill him and get this over with? Like, I'm SOOO bored just sitting here-a. They're, like, right there!"
"Because we cannot afford to be reckless, Diana. Killing them is not our priority; obtaining the target is. And they already suspect us-"
"Because you got beat by the big lug Knightmon over there."
"Just stand still. Our time will come..." The figure would then notice an apple hanging off of a tree. That gave him an idea... Gabumon had overheard Leith and Veemon's discussion. So Veemon wanted to know what he was like in his previous life, huh? It must've been tough... Gabumon and Agumon themselves were probably reincarnated more times than they can count, at this point.
"This place was completely obliterated," Shoutmon comments, hoping that his past life had nothing to do with this.
"It must've been real scary for those that used to live here, huh?" Agumon said as he picked up a small drawing that had been carved into a piece of debris. This must've used to be part of a house or something...
"Try not to think about it... god damn it, I can't find anything here! Are you sure there's something here Shoutmon?"
"I'm positive, I swear it! They're not entirely clear, but I have loads of foggy memories about this place!"
Suddenly, as Leith was looking around, he would encounter a small, lime green notebook that was covered in ashes. Still in tact, as well. If he were to pick up the journal, he would read what the cover said:

So there were Veemon and Leith standing in front of another, apparently even more stubborn house door. "Jesus," Leith had to remark from the frustration, "On one hand I know the chances of this thing mattering are low, but on the other hand I get the sort of video game sense that the door that's hard to open is the one that matters."
"How can something be this strong after a disaster like this?"
"Maybe it survived a disaster like this because it's this strong." Leith tried one more kick, but it was a no go."I don't think it's gonna happen, Vee."
"Vee Headbutt!"
"What?" Before the young man ever had a chance to dissuade his friend, Veemon slammed his head into a door with such force that it flew completely off its hinges and hit the back wall before falling. "Holy-!" However, Veemon did not look proud of his achievement.
"It's empty, too," he had decided before the ash disturbed by the attack had fully settled. So Veemon moved onto the next building over, but Leith more patiently waited for the dust to settle. As it turns out, he was right to; even though a little journal was almost covered completely by ash, the green of it was enough to make it stick out.
"Oh, hello..." he mused to himself as he bent down and picked it up. "What do you know? Maybe we were going about this the wrong way the whole time; we wanna search less-affected areas because they're more likely to have surviving evidence?" Leith then curiously opened the book and started to skim it, specifically for anything mentioning the catastrophe of 'RedMagnamon.' After all, he wanted to make sure it wasn't just a shopping list before he distracted the others for it.
All the while, Shoutmon stood uncharacteristically alertly. Though he glanced down to check on his comrades now and again, his blood was boiling just at the mere thought of beating something to a pulp.

"Maybe this will distract him..." The swordsman muttered as he carefully, VERY carefully, made his way over to where Leith's Shoutmon sat. He would then attach the apple to a piece of clear string and quietly put it on that branch. If Shoutmon were to try to grab it, the swordsman would pull the apple away. He wouldn't expect it to work, but he thought of this Shoutmon as the 'slow' type, someone who would fall for something like this. When Leith would skim through the journal, he would absolutely miss everything that the journal had to say. Every. Last. Detail. The only mention of RedMagnamon was at the very end, in the final paragraph:
This is it this is how I would die today. My cores been damaged so greatly its taking all the strength I have to write this. I can see my love Omni fighting them now: the humans. They seem to be no match for the strength of a Redmagnamon. Omni if you happen to be reading this.... I love you. With all my heart.
That was the last thing ever written in that journal.

"...all my heart," Leith mumbled to himself as he finished reading that passage aloud. "Oh, boy... maybe the other guys'll know better about this, but I was right... fuck, being right sucks." Leith stood up from his crouching position and, with utmost care, slipped his finger on that page to keep it marked while he shut the book. He had to be careful, of course; no doubt the object was delicate. "Guys!" the young man called, intending to present the journal to whomever showed up, "Get over here! I think I've got what you want!"
The worst part about guard duty, Shoutmon was soon finding, was the boredom... and the worst part about the boredom was not being able to distract himself from his natural digimon hunger. So when a spontaneous apple spontaneously spontaneoused into Shoutmon's view, he almost snatched it right from its place... almost. But he was alert. "Naaaah, haha, not today! I've seen this movie. I bite the apple, and then I fall asleep until true love's first kiss or whatever." Shoutmon seemed quite proud of himself for sniffing out this trap, too. He smugly smirked at the apple and jeered at it with a sort of proud arrogance. What kind of juvenile work was this? Of course he would sense something odd about a perfectly good fruit in a burnt tree!
But did his stomach care? "...Fuck it," the organic Shoutmon decided just before grabbing at the apple.

He actually fell for it?! The swordsman would think as he pulled the apple away. Since there was not much room on the branch the apple would fall down, down, down, until it hit the bottom of the tree. Would the Shoutmon care enough to go and get it?
Back with the group, the others heard Leith claim that he found something. Upon hearing this, they would all come up to Leith and notice that he was holding a lime-green notebook, covered in ashes.
"Let me see that," Adrian says as he takes the journal out of Leith's hands. "Lia... hey, wait a second!" Adrian pulled out the strange artifact from earlier. "Shoutmon, you said the name Lia came to you as soon as you held this!"
"Let me see that journal!" Shoutmon begged as he snatched it out of his hands. He would flip to the first page of the journal and start reading it out loud.
Hooray! Hi there. My name is Lia, and I am a Floramon. I just digivolved today! I'm so happy! My bestest friend, Omni, made me this journal so that I could draw doodles or just right down what I'm feeling! He is so thoughtful!
As it turns out, I'm unable to fight. No matter what I do, I can't do any attacks. Elecmon is very stumped as to why this is happening. However, it's causing the other kids to make fun of me because of it. It makes me so sad... so because I can't do attacks or fight, I can't have friends? Why are they all so mean? At least Omni is still by my side...
