Chapter IV: The war of Terminus Episode 4 (Part 3): Finally going home? Going through the revolving door The look on Katherine’s face could only be described with the word ‘disappointed’. After finding Nobuhiko Yomi, a hopeless and clueless human girl in the Fragment Village, going through a storm, sleeping together and sticking two days together until getting to the Deeplane City settlement... “I can’t believe this! Where could Amy be in a moment like this?” The team of the disappointed teenager, Katherine Jasso, Jazz, the hyperactive Chohakkaimon, and the clueless human, Nobuhiko Yomi, made their way through a couple of tents, where the amazing Deeplane City would be built! … Eventually. Definitely not yet. Right now, there didn’t seem to be a single soul around, except for a bunch of DexDorugamons. Where was everyone? Katherine knew their team was not huge, so it wasn’t completely mesmerizing there was no one around now that Amy was gone. “She’s usually around here.” Jazz’s mouth wrinkled, while she looked around. “Did you try texting her through your D-Terminal?” “I did. No response yet.” A sigh was the only thing that escaped Katherine. She knew Bastian wasn’t far away, so maybe he could be the one to go with to see how they could get Yomi back? “I’m sorry, I just… I didn’t expect my friend to not be around.” Her green eyes went to her friend, looking a little apologetic. “But don’t worry. I’m sure we can find someone who can open a portal and take you back home.” She tried to show a smile to raise the spirits. In any case, she knew she had to go see Bastian, so she needed to help Yomi quick. “And I know exactly who’s going to help me…” Katherine took her D-Terminal out to text none less than one of her best friends in the whole world. “I’m sure Akemi can help me. Someh…” She interrupted herself as, before getting to the device’s screen, her eyes caught a glance of some guy sitting on the edge of a rock, apparently drawing. Could it be...? After further examination, there was no doubt, it was Souji. A genuine smile appeared on Katherine’s lips. “Come on, I think he can help us.” She muttered to Yomi, grabbing her hand and running with her towards the drawing young man. After getting there, Katherine let go of Yomi’s hand and got a little closer to the guy, both hands behind her back. “Hi there, Himura!” She greeted the guy with a friendly expression. “How have you been?” She asked, before going into her other question. “Do you have any idea of where is Amy?”
From behind, she could hear Jazz’s voice whining. “Ugh, of all the people we had to find Petermon-b…!?” Before she could finish her sentence, she received a smack on the head, coming from a more-or-less solid object that had flown her way like a projectile. The reason being Katherine had thrown her backpack at her. “Be nice!”

Today was the day Souji decided he will just sit back and enjoy his day he even came in wearing a blue sweater vest, a white shirt underneath, brown pants and black gloves, he was probably looking to engage in the one activity he chose to keep secret from everyone he knew and that was drawing. In the world of art, pen and paper the boy felt in control and he liked that. Souji could easily spend hours fully immersing himself in his drawings, and this proved to be much easier today, you see Isabella is a sleep somewhere not too far so the boy had no distractions to stop his progress. So he was determined to be able to recreate the scene of waves crashing on the shore and after spending several hours drawing the boy was able to create a beautiful piece of art, he took a couple of minutes to enjoy his work before being startled by someone calling him.
Quickly dropping his drawing pad, the boy tried to cover up what he was doing. "Oh-um, hi Jasso. Nice to meet you and I have been well, I am getting used to my powers a little bit. But how about you, its been a while since we last met hasn't it ?" Souji asked as he clinched his note pad close to his chest hiding it from Katherine, Jazz and the other person. "Oh Amy, yeah I have not seen her in a while, I also can't find Ooi so that's that. Why is something wrong ? " Souji said as he had a worried look on his face, Katherine helped him before so he'd like to return the favour.
His facial expression got a bit sadder once he heard Jazz, but the boy tried to put a fake smile on his face. "No, no its fine Jasso. I like the nickname petermon boy, so its fine. And I am sorry I am not the person you hoped for, but I will do what I can to help. " he said before turning to face the stranger that was with Katherine, he got up from where he was sitting and bowed his head towards her.
"Oh sorry excuse my poor manners, we have not met before. My name is Souji Himura, nice to meet you." Souji said before standing up straight, holding his drawing board up with his right hand, still trying to cover it from everyone else.

___________
Diary Entry 3
Dear Diary, today I managed to finally reach the Deeplane camp. I finally realize why the Witchmon Morwena was so skeptical about this place. It would be a stretch to call it a city or a village, even. A refugee camp would be more appropriate. Still, Kathy's with me, and she's looking out for me. I'm very lucky to have ran into her in this wilderness... And it's not like I'm going to stick around. As soon as I'm able, I'd be going home and forget this place as a mostly horrible nightmare. I'm just hoping there is someone here who can open a 'portal'. Then, it will finally be over.
___________
First impressions aside, Yomi was happy to finally reach some semblance of human civilization. She was still clad in Katherine's spare clothes, namely the sweater that doubled as a make-shift dress, and what was still wearable from her worn-out school uniform. The stockings were shot to shambles, and the footwear was barely holding it together. In fact, the girl looked more like a hobo than anything. But it was not gonna matter soon! As she was going home!
With that in mind, she was getting both anxious and impatient to find someone to do that. At the same time, the girl with the broken glasses felt a twinge of sadness whenever she looked at Kathy, who was such a good friend so far. But she chose this world over the human one, which would mean they would likely not meet again any time soon... It was heartbreaking, but...
I have 5 of my best friends waiting for me back home... I... I must go.
It was then when Yomi and Kathy found someone who could help them out. It was a boy, who seemed to be busy with drawing. He looks japanese, just like her! Maybe she had even seen him somewhere before. The expression he had was polite and harmless, naturally disarming even. As the boy acknowledged their presence and greeting her, Yomi bowed a little, and fixed the glasses back to her nose, as they almost slid off.
"Nice to meet you, Himura-san. My name is Nobuhiko Yomi, and I'm uhh... I'm stuck here." - the politeness gave way to tired wariness from this prolonged field-trip. "Katherine-san said you know how to get out of here. Are you a refugee too? I ... don't see any digimon with you."

With a thoughtful expression, Katherine crossed her arms, one of them lifted to put a finger on her right cheek. "Ummmm well... If you think about it, it hasn't been that long since we went together on that job for Amy, right?" The teenager seemed to actually hold doubt about this, until she actually confirmed inside her head it had been around a week from those events. "But it is nice to see you again too!" She was more or less accustomed to seeing Souji around. After all, they were part of the same team now, and they were working together for a common goal.
"Something... wrong..." Katherine muttered, immersed in her own thoughts. Meanwhile, Jazz waved off Souji's apologize. "No, no, it's me who should apologize." The Chohakkaimon let go a hopeless sigh. "You're fine. It's good to see you." She knew, better than anyone, that Souji was not responsible for the attitude his spirit usually showed, so that was not a nice thing to say to him. "I usually forget you're different from that hideous spirit of yours!" Overall, Petermon's attitude towards Jazz had come while she was in a very hard moment of her life, so she was kind of stuck with that first impression. However, she recognized he had been very useful in the Council's recent endeavors.
"Y-yes!" Katherine came back from her thoughts when she noticed Souji and Yomi were already introducing. "See, Himura, this is a human girl I found in Fragment Village, while I went into that round of recognition Amy sent me to." The green-eyed began her explanation. "Yomi was lost and by herself. Apparently, she was brought here in the middle of a normal day inside the Human World, and she has been trapped since then. Considering she has a D-Tector, I think she's a spirit user just like you." The curly-haired girl showed a smile to the boy. "The portal functionality has been a mess in my digivice for a while now. I was looking for Amy to see if she could open a portal to take Yomi back into the Human World. But, considering she's not around..." The teenager made a small pause. "Do you have that kind of functionality in your D-Tector, Himura?" She finally asked, holding a tender grin. He shouldn't have much trouble opening a portal for her friend, right?
Right at that moment, Katherine's D-Terminal started beeping. She took the gadget out of her pocket to see who it was. Bastian. It was only natural he was looking for her like crazy already.
"C-can you give me a second? I really need to take this. Please, get to know each other better meanwhile. Explain anything you need to explain to her, Himura. I'll be right back!"
Katherine walked away from the conversation to take her call in private. Jazz followed her tamer. This was very important.

Souji smiled at Jazz who apologized for her hurtful comment he shook his head and waved his hand in a dismissive manner, he liked Jazz especially after what happened the other day. "No its fine I understand, he was a jerk to you. But don't worry about it I had a very long talk with him and even Bella gave him an earful after she learned of what happened. He is a nicer guy now, well at least compared to the last time you saw him." Souji said with a slight chuckle and a little smile.
The first thing the boy could notice about Katherine's friend were her terribly worn clothes, which only made the boy wondered if she was like him when he first got to the digital world himself and as she made her introduction, it was as Souji expected. "Oh well miss Yomi, don't worry about a thing, everything will be fine. I was at your same position and things will be better." Souji said with a smile, he could understand the girl's natural desire to get back home, but its the only thing he never had when he got to the digital world. Souji wondered on why for a second, maybe it was because he did not have much to look forward to back in the human world. But Souji then dazed out of his brief moment of thought when Yomi asked her question. "Well yes and no, while I do not have a conventional partner like Katherine and Jazz, I do have a digimon friend that accompany me. Her name is Isabella but she is sleeping right now." Souji said before turning to face Katherine, the boy put his notepad with its face on the ground in order to hide it from both Yomi and Jasso.
He then folded his arms to listen to Katherine, after hearing her explanation the boy scratched his head. "I see so thats what happened I am glad Katherine found you, and yeah as Katherine here said I am what can be known as a spirit user. Thanks to this little device right here." Souji said as he reached into his pocket and took out his black and red D-tector, and placed it in front of Yomi for her to take a good look at it. "And I see, I did hear that the portal function is one of those things that can be tricky, luckily after Amelie showed me how to use the portal I bought one. And best part is it works perfect for me, well I can only go to the shibuya train station but that should be fine right." The boy was excited, for the first time since he got here, he wont be helped but instead will be the one who will provide the help. The boy then had a breif look of disappointment, it was unnoticeable but the boy really did not want to have part ways with Jasso and Jazz oh so quickly, but it can't be helped.
"Oh Jazz wait a second, can you do me a tiny favour ? Go see if Bella is awake and if so explain to her why I will be leaving to the human world, after all I can't just open a portal and leave Yomi on her own. I will have to escort her personally to see that she reaches her destination personally, anyways tell Isabella to wait for me either here or Terminus if she ends up following you two. Oh and tell her do not worry I will bring the things she asked for with me. Please and thank you." Souji asked from his friend Jazz, he then quickly turned to Yomi and began to tinker with his D-Tector, he then pointed it in front of him only to have an energy portal appear in front of him.
"Well here we go Yomi, I will go after you. So please go ahead, I think the portal will close if I enter first." Souji said a little bit unsure of that, but he was not going to take any risk with that. Now he wait for the girl to walk in.

Yomi remained quiet as Katherine and Himura talked to one another about someone else. Or... at least she thought so. Digimon were a very confusing lot. Some of them were their own creatures, while others were spirits, and this one was... both a spirit and their own person? It was hard to wrap her head around. And yet, it was there. The girl still had a suspicion all of this was just a very long dream, and the moment her journey would come to an end, she'd wake up with a gasp in her home, or in the hospital bed.
Like in that matrix movie...
Still, from what she gathered, this one was like ... her? Or, at least, he had the same device. Only his looked much more... docile. Yomi even reached to poke at the buttons, to make sure they weren't eyes in disguise.
"I... I really hope things get better. I just want to get out of here..." - the girl said, looking away and giving a slight shiver. "I don't really have any digimon friends to look after me, nor spare clothes... I just want to get back to my normal, ordinary life. I am sorry."
For some reason, she felt the need to apologize. It felt... strange and wrong somehow, to not share the enthusiasm that the others seemed to have for this place. They were the brave ones. Ready and willing to explore this world. Yomi always wanted to be special, but when the push came to shove, she discovered to be craving the safety and normalcy of her own world. Katherine's sudden departure managed to break her out of this stupor.
"W-wait! Wait!" - she made a few steps to follow, but the girl and her digimon have already run off. She just stood there, with the portal opening behind her back. But Yomi did not turn to see it yet, just watching Katherine go. Her heart feeling heavy about all of this.
"I did not get to say goodbye..."

Souji was a bit confused by Yomi's reaction he can understand why anyone would feel the same way the girl is feeling right now, trapped on a world that is alien to you away from your friends and family is something anyone would be worried about, its not something that is welcome. So the most natural reaction would definitely be fear of the unkown and an overwhelming desire to get back home, the boy simply shook his head at Yomi's apology. "Don't be sorry, being scared is normal. Hell, I have attained some experience and I am still occasionally scared. So dont be shy its ok to be scared, now you can leave all this behind and go home and meet your loved ones. " Souji said as he waited for the girl to enter the portal.
The boy was surprised by what happened next, Yomi's desire to say to good bye to Katherine should be understandable but Souji never understood it. As a smile slowly curled up in his lips the boy looked sad for a brief moment. "Don't think of this as a goodbye, Jasso is human and she obviously will go back to the human world at some point and when she does that she can visit you and you visit her. It will be fine, friends dont stop communicating with each other do they?" Souji question on the outside seemed rhetorical but somewhere deep inside it was a genuine question.
"So let us go, your friends await you. And once you go through that everything will be back to normal, simple as that." Souji was a little too naive and optimistic as he did not know what will happen next but for some reason he thinks things will be alright.

Yomi recoiled back a bit, hearing the boy's reassuring words.
Really, this was not going to be a final goodbye. If all portals went to Shibuya, it meant that Kathy will have to go back, sometime, eventually. She wanted to acquaint her with all her other friends, and maybe hang out together, in the relative safety and tranquility of the Shibuya park. Where there were no monsters hiding in the underbrush. Or, at least, she thought so. Right now, the girl did not think about the possibility of encountering any digimon back home. Did not want to. Turning back to the boy, Yomi smiled coyly.
"I guess you're right. My friends are probably worried sick... Especially Kaya. She was with me when I uhh... got sucked in."
With that, the girl with the broken glasses was finally ready to get home. She turned to face the portal, eyeing its unstable contours for a few moments. Inside, she could already see the familiar images of the train station in her district. Home was just... a few steps away. Yomi looked back at the gentle boy, a grateful smile on her face. So lucky of me to run into these people... To think if I didn't... I might have died.
A gloomy thought, for sure.
"Thank you for... all your help, Himura-san. I guess... I'll be going home now."
She pulled her D-tector, looking at it briefly. It looked back at her with its googly eyes. It looked angry. But it was not going to stop her. Tentatively, she took a few steps towards the portal. Closer and closer. But as she was about to make the final step inside...
*ZZZZZZZZZAP!*
Something happened. The device she held in hand released some kind of energy, straight into the girl. It looked like electricity, sparkling and crackling, coursing through her body. But, unlike electricity, it was of dark, black and purple color. And it hurt... a lot. Yomi's eyes widened, as she felt each and every one of her nerve endings singed, sending her into a catatonic state. She let out a shrill scream, as her body convulsed on the ground, kicking and thrashing. One could swear the energy took weird shapes of a creature, before lashing out at the portal as well. Surrounding the opening with a few coils and crushing it between, dispelling it before anyone could get inside.Only then, would the strange and equally terrifying display end.
Yomi would remain on the ground, eyes wide from shock, mind blank from the sudden and unexpected pain she went through. Looking into the sky, not blinking. She was alive, as her chest did rise and fall, heart beating obscenely fast. And the device remained in her hand, despite the fingers no longer holding on to it.
As if glued to her hand.
"Nghh..." - a painful gasp left Yomi's chest, before her eyes closed, and she fell into the dark bliss of unconsciousness.

It brought Souji a lot of joy when he saw that his words brought Yomi some relief, it felt great to help people just like how he was helped back when he first entered this world. This made him more sure of his decision on what to use this power on, to act as a guide to all newcomers and help those in need. But this was not the time to think about future endeavours, today was about doing a good deed and helping someone. So the boy nodded at Yomi, his face was radiant as a slight smile curled on his lips.
"Yes exactly, once you go back to your normal everything will be fine you will be free from this world. And you can ease Kaya, whom I am sure is worried about you right now" Souji's optimistic and cheery words were simply lively and full vigor, this may as well be the first good deed the boy pulls off.
Or so he thought, once Yomi attempting to leave the digital world behind her something bizarre happened. A mysterious force began to violently attack her with electricity, this made the boy panic, more so due to the fact that neither Isabella nor Jazz where near him to maybe figure out whats going. "Yomi!!!" The boy yell as his muscles refused to move forward towards the girl, he just began to try and turn into a digimon using his own device, but alas it is for naught as the girl damage only grew to the point of Yomi finally fell unconscious, the boy did not notice the detail of her device being as if it is connected to her skin.
Rushing ahead towards Yomi, Souji got down to his knees and gently placed his hand on the girl's shoulder and began to softly stroke it. Usually the boy won't dare to do such a thing but its not the time to be shy, the very well being of a human being is at risk right now. "Ms Yomi wake up, are you ok ? Please wake up." What was supposed to be a simple job for Souji ended up being more complicated than he had originally hopped for, but that was not important whats important is the safety of the girl with broken glasses.

Bastian’s call had definitely been fruitful for Katherine, adding new information to her current quest. The Ballistamon was mainly calling to tell her he was not currently at the settlement right now.
“So he went to see a friend? At a moment like this?” Jazz asked, bringing both hands behind her head, walking next to her partner. “I think it’s a work visit. He said this friend might help him to get us inside the Dark Army’s headquarters once we’re in Terminus.” She explained. The duo had also trailed off a bit to go to a small tent, not too far from there, and give Souji’s message to Bella.
They had moved quickly, intending to go back in time to say bye to Yomi. However, a lot had occurred in that brief space of time. When the duo finally reached the spot where they initially parted ways from Souji and Yomi, they would find the brown-haired boy holding their friend, who was laying on the ground.
“Souji! What happened!?” Katherine asked, rushing to the scene alongside Jazz, who was panicking more than what she externalized.
Katherine crouched and gently put her ear on the girl’s chest. She was breathing unstably and her heart was beating like crazy. Right at that moment, the teenager tried to drift away thoughts of fear and panic as hard as she could. It wasn’t easy to do. She took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. And even if she didn’t accomplish it in all of its extents, she did manage to get some ideas inside her head.
“Jazz! Lift her up. Please be careful” The ChoHakkaimon abided and without any trouble, she lifted the girl from the ground, carrying her bridal style. Right before, Katherine had taken off her friend's glasses and put them inside her jacket. It would be a shame if they got (more) broken.
“Where are we taking her? There’s no one here.” Jazz frowned, holding a preoccupied glance. Even when they could, maybe, deal with this by themselves, some help would be really good right now.
“There is someone.” Katherine gave a firm gaze to her partner, standing up. She gestured some ‘follow me’ sign with her head to Souji, Jazz following from up close too, carrying Yomi. They would very soon reach a small green tent.
“Nei… Are you around here? We need your help” Katherine poked her head inside the tent, moving the fabric at the entrance to get a better look to the insides. It was a pretty simple layout: a small bed, a carpet, a desk, and some chairs. "It's a friend of ours. Something happened to her, and she's not feeling well." Jazz entered the tent behind Katherine, carrying Yomi. "Can we lay her down in your bed for a while?"
It would be good for Souji to explain what happened at any moment now.

Nei had found that being capable of intangibility at times led to some pretty cool hiding places. He wasn't really about to use them to scare people. That was way above his pay grade (wait, he didn't get paid...) But, he recognized the voice of the person peeking in his tent.
"Oh, hi, Kath..."
So, they needed to lay their friend in his bed for a bit? That was perfectly fine. Nei had a vague familiarity with almost everyone in the construction site, so the Bakumon glanced towards Souji, as though he were expecting an explanation. "Sure, she can rest here...But, if I can ask...Um. What happened to her? She looks like she got fried...That's kind of terrible...Are you going to get her some healing?" Nei tilted his head.

To the sleeping Bella, seeing Jazz wake her up came as a surprise to her. After hearing Souji's message she was curious to see who this person Souji was going to help, so after getting there slightly before Kath and Jazz followed along behind her. What she shocked her, so the fairy rushed to Souji, a bit baffled about what happened.
Souji was speechless because for a moment he feared that the worst might have happened, he was only able to go back to his senses after Katherine confirmed that Yomi was alive. "Oh well I opened the portal back to Shibuya and she tried to walk in but then she got electrocuted and then she fell unconscious. I dont understand what went wrong, my spirit won't respond and the portal works, me and Isabella tested it multiple times before today. " Souji then got up to follow Jazz and see where they were taking Yomi.
Once inside the room Isabella just shrugged and floated next to Yomi, placing her hand on her Chin Bella examined the young girl to see what was going on. "Ah does not look bad, looks like minor external pain, maybe a bit internal pain as well. Hmm I can probably give this girl the boost she needs. Looks like living with that marineangemon is gonna pay off now. " Bella then blew a kiss towards Yomi and the girl would then be covered a green aura that should feel like a warm breeze of air as if you were in a peaceful farm. The fairy then backed off looking all proud of herself.
"Ok that should do the trick, I am decent medic, so worst case scenario she might need to do some resting but thats it."

Yomi remained out cold, as she was dragged to the nearest tent by her newfound, and very startled, friends.
She felt like a rag doll, aside from an occasional muscle spasm, as she was placed on the cot. The heartbeat rate remained heightened, still suffering from the aftershocks of whatever was it that caused all of this. Her D-tector remained clenched in her hand, fingers tight around it. She could not hear voices from the outside, be those of Kathy, Souji, or digimon.
Fortunately, help arrived in the form of healing magic that Souji's friend Bella knew how to wield. The blown kiss encapsulated her in green energy that slowly pacified the aftershocks that have still been present around the girl. The muscle convulsions stopped, and the heartbeat rate slowly returned to normal. The diagnosis was accurate, as whatever was it that released the shock was not strong enough to kill her. Or... did not intend to. Yomi let out a sigh, before her body slowly sank into the cot she was lying on, the expression of pain vanishing from her face, becoming a more neutral one.
She laid still, the only things moving being her eyes underneath her eyelids. Twitching and shifting back and forth.
"Nnn..."

Even without herself noticing, Katherine’s whole countenance just relaxed, upon seeing her friend lighten up her previously stiffy body and recover a normal heartbeat rate. The teenager let go a sigh, to then turn towards Oneiros.
Katherine and Akemi had sort of ‘adopted’ the Tapirmon after Anzu destroyed his house. Once that negotiation across some territories of the Dark Area was over, they talked to Amy and asked permission to let him join the group. It felt nice, to feel they had helped the little guy to get out of his depressing, previous life.
“Thank you, Nei.” Katherine gave a warm smile to him. “Her name is Yomi. I found her during that expedition Amy sent me to do yesterday.” The green-eyed crossed her arms, taking a seat in one of the chairs. “She’s completely new at this world. She’s trying to get back home. I brought her here so someone could send her back through a portal but…” Her eyes then shifted towards Souji. “According to Himura, she got electrocuted before she could go in.”
Jazz’s eyes were fixed on the digivice, which hadn’t left Yomi’s hand yet. “I think it had to do with that... thing.” And she was probably right.
“I think so too… Her digivice doesn’t want her to leave. It doesn’t even let her destroy it. It’s starting to unsettle me.” She knew, however, that right now was probably not the time to think about that. She was very glad her friend felt better now, and she wanted to help her.
“Thank you, Isabella.” The Spaniard thanked the Tinkermon, bowing her head a little.
With this, Katherine shifted her attention back to the Tapirmon. “Do you think you can help her, somehow? I know you can recreate memories, but… Do you think you can also get them out from someone’s head, without them telling those memories to you?” Maybe that question needed further explanation. After a brief pause, Katherine tried to tackle that in a way it was as clear as possible. “Yomi told me she’s been having very odd dreams around the time she arrived this world, and even after doing so. I know dreams are somehow a representation of what lies in our subconscious, so even if she can’t tell us exactly how those dreams were… Maybe you could get them out of her head for us?"
Jazz’s eyes glimmered, as they usually did when her partner talked like that. “Do you think you can do that, Nei!?” If so, her partner had, once again, had a great idea.

Nei listened closely, clasping his hooves together as he listened in. "Trapped in another world...And a recent arrival. I can't imagine this is good for her..." He felt a swell of pity for Yomi. The Tapirmon looked to Bella and gave a nod of thanks, before he floated a little closer to her.
"I've...never used my power for something like that before. It would be a time to find out, but I feel like this isn't the best place to experiment...But, let's see..." Nei uttered, unclasping his hooves before he reached out towards Yomi's head. He focused. Yeah, the Tapirmon did have power over memories, but did this extend to dreams too?
Perhaps it was time to find out. He would reach within and attempt to grasp for the dreams that matched what Kath had told him.
