The Trail of Premonition v.2 [Yomi/Kathy]

It was not only the wasteland, the swords, or the sky. Every piece of what made this place what it was combined just to make the whole environment… very unsettling. It was a feeling akin to the Dark Area to provide chills down the spine of those who visited its multiple locations. But this was something else. It didn’t look like anything Katherine had seen around before. For… some reason, Katherine felt the urge to take a picture of such an amazing yet frightening place.
When she had been inside the Digital World the first time, she was so amazed and mesmerized she didn’t even think of taking pictures at all. To begin with, her cellphone had run out of battery not long after she arrived, so she really didn’t have a way to do it. Later on, she would learn there were regular power outlets in this world too.
Now that Bastian had asked her to keep a registry of the places she visited inside this world, just to keep on with his tradition, she felt this was the best moment to give a use for that camera he had given to her, for the first time.
The teenager took out the dark red-colored device and just pushed the button, taking the picture.
“This is simply… amazing. Just thinking about what could have happened here makes me so excited.”
Jazz’s eyes glimmered exactly the same as her partner’s as she scanned through the whole place. Undying Curiosity at its best.
“Yomi!” The girl’s painful countenance broke Katherine’s concentration in the unsetting landscape. She approached her friend with a preoccupied expression. Luckily, the pain seemed to have disappeared as fast as it arrived. The teenager seemed to be off danger now.
Katherine lent out a hand to help her stand up. “Don’t worry, we’re here. Right next to you.” Her expression was not cheerful or merry anymore, but it still looked to be reassuring. Her eyes showed pure determination. She was set on getting to the end of this.
“Let’s go, then.” Katherine turned to face the cave and started walking towards the entrance. So did Jazz.

"Yeah... lets go."
Yomi's footsteps towards the cave were a bit shaky. But Kathy was with her, and Jazz too. And they've come so far... Nobody would believe me, if I ever told anyone back home... - the girl thought, having seen her friend take pictures. That I'm venturing into a dark, cursed cave... surrounded by swords... In literal Mordor. If this is a dream or a hallucination, it sure has been taking a while... But if it were... Yomi gave Kathy a little guilty look.
I'd miss you.
The two entered the dark, gaping cavern. There were strange, translucent mushrooms growing from the walls, glowing in an eerie green light. Enough to illuminate the path ahead. The cave was getting wider and wider, expanding into a larger grotto up in front. The walls did not look like they were naturally made... More like... melted into the core of the mountain, as if by the breath of a giant dragon.
Inside the grotto, there was... nothing. Except for the weird mushrooms, moss, and ... swords. There were almost as many swords here as there were outside. Slashes and stabs embedded into the stone, forcing them to bear the scars of a confrontation long since passed. The swords were regal in nature, shining in the dim light with their golden and silvery sheen. They were bigger than the ones outside too. Yomi gasped silently in wonder, unable to imagine the kinds of hands needed to wield any of these... It was until they reached the very back of the chamber, when the girl found... something.
It was another sword. No big surprise.
A simple longsword, with a dull steely sheen. Like others, it outsized Yomi by about 5 feet, if not more. it too was stabbed into the ground. Its blade was notched in many places, to the point it hardly even seemed sharp. Its handle of black leather worn and crumpled from a pair of giant hands that seemed to wield it. No wings decorating the guard - it was just a bar, and just as notched as the blade.
"This blade is not like the others..."
Yomi muttered to herself.

The more they advanced on their way to the end of the cave, the more Katherine came to an understanding. Before she could actually state what she had deducted from this little trip, she found Yomi looking at her, looking a bit troubled.
“I-Is something wrong?” She asked, only her head turned to face the girl. “Are you feeling okay?”
The cave was big enough to fit Hippogriffomon, so Jazz decided to stay on that form. After all, she was stronger like this. And they weren’t taking any chances for Yomi to get hurt. Luckily, the cave’s own vegetation seemed to provide the lighting they needed to move, so Jazz’s lighting technique was not needed.
Finally, Katherine expressed her conclusions. Her voice echoed throughout the cave.
“I think this could be the resting place of your spirit. As I told you back in the cave, spirits are usually legendary digimon who died long ago. It is possible he has died here, fighting.”
Jazz added her own piece of insight. “That brings a lot of questions. Was there a war here? Why were they fighting? How did the fighting creatures look?” More like questions to leave fluttering around the air
Who knew, maybe Yomi’s spirit could provide some answers. Maybe not.
In any case, they were now at the end of the road, and a sword seemed to have raised Yomi’s attention.
It did look slightly different from the others, but it didn’t seem to have any special type of quality to neither Katherine or Jazz. However, Yomi didn’t seem able to stop looking at it. Something about that blade raised her attention.
Katherine’s eyes went to Yomi’s tight red jeans, especially around the area of her pockets. “Is your D-Tector giving you any type of sign? Is it vibrating or ringing?” She asked. Maybe they were closer than they thought.
“I think you should try to… touch that blade. Or maybe try to pull out your D-Tector in front of it.” Jazz added.
They should probably try different types of stuff, considering this particular blade seemed to be somewhat different for Yomi

"Died fighting, huh?"
Yomi looked over her shoulder. There were so many swords wielded by giants, stabbed to the ground. This one, which looked simple and mundane compared to those engraved blades... Was it the one belonging to whatever sinister force dragged her here? Was it... the one who defeated the wielders of all those other blades? She looked at the ground, at the walls, at the ceiling.
There were slashes. Signs of the battle that was raging here. Yomi gulped.
"It was... retreating probably. And when there was nowhere to retreat... It fell.
In stories, the good guys were usually outnumbered. But it did not feel like a good guy's grave. Not at all. The girl pulled out her D-tector, and looked at it. The thing's googly eyes were pointed at the sword. No matter in what direction she moved the device, the eyes seemed to follow the sword. There was no mistake. This was the place. Looking up at the sword timidly, Yomi took a step closer. Then another... another... And placed her hand against the flat of the blade.
"It feels... warm. Somehow." - she muttered.
As the girl did so, the pummel at the top of the hilt slowly turned above her, and... opened. As if two lids slowly peeled off from ether side. Revealing a red, baleful eye that stared down at Yomi. Before the girl could do or say anything, the eye blasted her with a beam of dark energy, which encapsulated her entire body within moments!
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" - Yomi managed to let out a surprised shriek, which soon became distorted as her form was knocked to the ground. The beam remained locked on her, continuing to shower her with dark energy and keeping her pinned to the floor. The girl's mind was growing blank, all of her senses overwhelmed at the same time by pain and a plethora of other physical emotions, as she thrashed and kicked on the ground. But the struggle was slowly fading away.
The girl's form... started to change. The sounds of bones crackling as she was being stretched and elongated. Fingers growing and molding together to make three instead of five. Skin becoming dark, pitch-black, turning into smooth fur. Nose becoming long and pointy, as did the ears. Fangs turning sharper and more canine-like. The sword did not relent until it finished, and when it did, the eye slowly closed itself, and morphed back into being a regular, metal pummel. Leaving the girl lying on the floor before the sword.
If it could be called a girl still...

Yomi’s own piece of insight made sense. Whatever had happened here, was brutal, and there was no doubt to be held about that. Maybe this place only went to show why her spirit was so aggressive towards its host. Maybe he didn’t know another way to ‘live’.
In any case, talking about aggressiveness…
“Yomi!” As soon as the girl touched the blade, a red eye located at the top of the sword zapped her with a beam of dark energy. At that moment, all kinds of thoughts went through Katherine’s head. The idea of this not being the right place or the fact that she was the one who urged Yomi to touch the artifact. Yomi was in pain and she was the one to blame! The girl just panicked and tried to rush towards her friend. Right on time, Jazz jumped in front of her, stopping her tamer. The Hippogriffomon tried to approximate Yomi herself, but the beam of energy only grew when she did, keeping her away.
Right when Jazz was about to slam against the thing to save Yomi, the fact that she was… finally transforming into a digimon, made both the girl and the beast realize this… had to happen.
This was what they were looking for. Yomi was finally taking the form of her spirit. Katherine just braced from her digimon partner, closing her eyes and hearing the girl moan in pain. It was hard. But they knew this would happen, sooner or later. As soon as the transformation finished, the eye finally closed. The dark beam ceased its effect over Yomi. When it did, what was laying on the floor was not a human anymore.
“It finally happened.” Jazz muttered, sounding a bit worried. Both she and Katherine approximated the body, Katherine lifting her head up from the ground. What was covering Yomi was now… fur.
“Yomi! Can you hear me? Yomi!” Even if Katherine was not shouting, she was calling for her friend in an effusive manner. Could she get an answer?
“She’s… a Renamon. I think.” Jazz declared. She had seen some of these during her time at Rustport. “Renamon…” Katherine muttered, raising her gaze towards the griffin. “I don’t get it. Now what? What does the spirit want her to do now?”
Were they supposed to get another clue here? Or maybe they had to wait and talk directly to Yomi? If they get no response from Yomi and there didn’t seem anything left to do here, the duo would fly back to the settlement, carrying Yomi. But… would that be the case?
