Some Excuse of a Recovery [Silence]

"Well. You got that about right."
Iko gave a chuckle - both to that, and the thought that the 'cat' only belonged to Silence. To that end, Iko just shook his head: "I don't believe that one for a second. If you were just trying to live, you would have just stayed quiet in her head - passing along with her, reincarnation to reincarnation, like a phantom. For you to care enough to do something that you didn't want to do, well. You have to appreciate Silence just a little bit."
With that, he'd press on. Silence was right - this wasn't easy, but perhaps if they took it one thing at a time, they could make their way through. "If we're just counting Digimon members to keep it simple... let's see. There's myself, Syre, and Oathgard as the fighters - and Joseph and Garlond as administrative staff. A total of five."
... Only five? Somehow, that didn't make it sound as grand as it did, but Iko's voice did not lack confidence. A confidence that the Mei seemed to lack. Rather than let her back down, Iko gave a grin.
"Humor me. What's the harm in trying?"

”Look okay that might be true in some regard but it’s just this. If she dies I die. I lose a little bit of myself. In this case I lost my connection to the prior iteration. I see the memories and actions but don’t feel connected to them. A lot like silence but in the same sense I retained a lot more of myself than she did.”
The meicrackmon huffed a little bit and shook her head; then she’d flick an ear at hearing that they only had a total of five members? Was it really that few? The meicrackmon blinked and furrowed her brow; why did the both of them seem to think the knights were so much larger than that?
”That’s a lot less than I thought there would be; I’ve seen oathgard floating around and know of syre but Joseph and garlond I don’t know too much about other than their species and one is a butler.”
The meicrackmon snorted and then paused when iko asked her a rather… Juicy question to say the least. What was the harm in trying? The meicrackmon’s ears flicked back and she’d rub at her chin thoughtfully. It would be difficult wouldn’t it? Or at least it’d be hard for her to get silence to listen she figured but… Maybe just maybe she could do something. She’d huff a bit and then point at the wolf.
”Fine. I’ll try to teach her some things. Probably when she’s awake and we can talk. But you have to do something for me wolf.”
There was always a price of things and there was always something that the meicrackmon wanted to do. It was stupid and it had been sitting in the back of her head for a long time. The meicrackmon folded her arms and after a moment if the wolf was listening she’d speak.
”I want you to get me a flying license for the Dragon’s valley. Just need one day really. At super mega level.”

"The job ain't easy. Admittedly, our standards are a 'bit' high - there's a difference between taking everyone who 'wants' to help and anyone who 'can'."
He'd give a sigh, shaking his head at that much - but, at least it didn't take much goading to get the MeiCrackmon on his side. All she wanted was a trade, which easily earned the attention of the wolf. And as the MeiCrackmon explained what she wanted? Oh, he'd just laugh!
"Sheesh, is that all?" The wolf flashed his fangs! "Tell you what, you bring her up to the standard of being a Knight, and I'll make sure that her patrol route's in Dragon Valley. Rather than a one-day pass, the skies will be yours, as much as you want. Been a while since I've seen Examon in action."
Yup - Iko knew exactly what was going on there. "And don't worry. If it doesn't work out, I'll bug Oathgard to get you a pass there, somehow. At the very least, a training permit - though, be careful to not make the other dragons in there start to worship her."

”She never once considered this a job so much as a lifestyle choice. I’m not sure what her prior iteration really thought of it though. And honestly can you be picky with who joins when you have just five people? Wanting can turn into a can if you put enough effort in. and even if it doesn’t turn into a ‘can’ that means that you have an ally of sorts for the future.”
The meicrackmon waggled her finger and gave a nod when the wolf asked if that was all. She’d sort of kick at the ground being somewhat sheepish at the idea of having a patrol route go through the area!
”You can do that? Wait. Yes. Right. Duh. Wait. Patrol route?”
The meicrackmon tilted her head a bit and furrowed her brows. They had routes? She figured they just picked different areas to just sort of wander around in. Honestly how did that work? She knew what patrols were and what they entailed but not how the knights did them.
”...Why would they start wor...ship… Oh. Duh. Right. Eesh. Is it that obvious?”
The meicrackmon snorted and leaned back, cracking her neck and back in the process. She was indeed what the wolf thought of her; sure she was lazy and all that but she was also the one that inherited a lot from the examon that once had shared a body with K!
”So I’ll train her up a bit. I’m not sure what all to cover. Got any suggestions? Cause if not I’ll just wing it and we’ll see how she fairs next training session.”

"I really wish it were that easy, Mei."
Iko shook his head. A 'want' turning into a 'can', with enough effort put into it? True, that was the case, but perhaps the cat didn't know just how steep a mountain that was to climb. "Its easy to want to be a hero. Anyone can want to be strong, want to do the right thing... but when you get down to it, its unbelievably hard. The trials you put yourself through, the times you have to risk your neck, the sheer agony of reaching that peak..."
The wolf grit his teeth, clenching his hand into a fist - even drawing a bit of blood from his palm. Whatever this was, the wolf was speaking from direct experience.
"... But maybe... we could stand to be a little more lax." His hands slowly relaxed. "Though I don't want to start just hiring the village guard, making this a goal that tamers want to reach isn't a bad idea."
Silence hung in the air for a moment - the wolf's ear twitching as the Mei agreed to his training proposal. Any suggestions? "She flinches. She panics. She overthinks. To put it simply? Show her how to get a job done."

”It can be that easy. It really can. Just finding the ones that are good for it is the problem. Imagine if silence didn’t have what it took or flaked out. Imagine if she wasn’t everything you were hoping to get back.”
The meicrackmon’s eyes went from the wolf’s face down to his hand, she could smell the blood. It was that sharp tangy strangeness that she never wanted but it kept speaking to her. Letting out a small tsk she’d look to one side.
”But neither of us have hit that peak yet so we can’t imagine what you or she went through yet. Our struggles often seem paltry in comparison.”
She’d move to stand up, mulling over some things while he agreed with her she could see his point. She’d step forward and tug out a bandage from her infinity storage before handing it to the wolf. No real reason to let that sting longer than it needs to.
”I don’t think the goal is to reach this point. The goal is to help people. If silence didn’t make it here do you honestly think she’d stop just because she wasn’t a knight?”
The fact that he agreed with them needing to be more lax and offering goals for that well.. It made her a bit happy for some reason and she didn’t know why. But that was besides the point now. Hearing what silence needed the meicrackmon rubbed at her chin.
”She anticipates too much. She over thinks because she remembers her failures. Maybe I can use that to show her that she can make things different… Give me two days with her. I’ll give you what you need to see. Or at the very least you’ll see improvements.”

Of course - these 'two' were young. Neither Silence nor Mei were anywhere near their peak - and they were only at the start of their journey. There would be much more they'd have to face, even just in the immediate future.
So to the last point, the wolf actually managed a small smile.
"Not at all. I don't know if she's crazy or just stubborn, but Silence will stick through this much longer than anyone reasonably should."
He'd give a small laugh, and he'd move to walk on by, briefly resting his clean palm on the cat's shoulder as he did so. "Then, I'll see you in a few days. Honestly, I could use the break - going day after day against Silence is enough for my joints to start to creak. Well, that, and I owe Syre some target practice."

”Yeah. She’s good about that. Even if everything was burning she’d still bring a bucket to fight the fire with. Stubborn is a good word for it. Some people would call it suicidal.”
The meicrackmon snorted a bit and shook her head. Maybe she was crazy or maybe she just wanted to live up to a name that meant so much to her that she would never admit that fact. She’d stretch and look to the wolf; an ear flicking. A few days were given and well… they all could use a break. This would be good for the both of them.
Two days. Two whole days for the meicrackmon to try to teach silence somethings.
”All right. A few days it is! Better watch your tush wolf. Syre’s aim is pretty damn good.”
The meicrackmon laughed a bit and if allowed? Well the wolf would get a firm handshake with his good hand before she’d hop off to go get some food. She was starving and silence was just waking up in her head… So it was time to see what they really could do together.
Two days.
It’s what she asked for, two days and it was nearing the crest of the sun in the day. Where was silence? Where was the meicrackmon? There wasn’t a word from her or the trainer. But just as it seemed like they wouldn’t show back up there was a loud crack followed by a portal splitting the air in the entry hall. Silence with her armor scuffed and her tail flicking stepped through.
She looked like she had been through the wringer, just where had she been? Some scuffs and burns, some dents and scratches. There was even one gash across her torso that had been treated. She’d brush her shoulders off and grumble to herself.
”Two days might as well have felt like twelve sheesh… Definitely put me through my damn paces. Now where’s Iko?”
She’d look around and huff, figuring she’d have to at least look around the tower some before she could find him...

Well, that hired doctor was paying off in spades, even when Iko wasn't looking!
The wolf didn't question what the cat or Silence was up to. Perhaps the MeiCrackmon had an idea to train Silence somewhere far away from the base, or perhaps they were off meditating somewhere to allow the two to 'fight' inside of Silence's mind. In fact, Iko was so convinced that was the case that he didn't figure that the wolf could get injured over those few days.
It would be a little while before Silence would actually bump into the wolf - in fact, she wouldn't run into him first. As Silence would be making her way up the tower and checking out a few rooms, she'd manage to stumble across the kitchen - and a familiar BlackGatomon, ear flicking as a door opened behind her. "Hm?" The cat turned, briefly looking away from the pot she was standing over, looking over at the wolf's battered condition. "... Wait, I thought Iko said he was giving you a break over the last coupla days. How do you still look so beat up?"
She sighed, more annoyed than concerned. "Good to see you're up, though!"

The wolf grumbled a little bit as she walked through the halls of vander tower, her chest itched and she was sore all over. Sure the meditation had occurred but it was far different than what she was expecting. Once in the mindspace of their own core it was a trivial concern to talk it out… and find what they needed to do. Together they had talked, fought and been at each other’s throats in such a way that had actually damaged the ‘shell’ that they had been sharing.
Well perhaps ‘at one another’s throats’ was a little much. They had fought yes but there was no malice attached to it. The fact she didn’t even run into iko first was a touch frustrating cause she wanted to talk to him about it… But. The shutmon visibly was taken back by seeing syre. Yes she knew that the other was a knight but honestly she had seen so little of the cat around that she figured that they preferred being out of the tower than in it!
”Heh. Hey there! He did give me a break, well less a break and more a small training period with my inner ‘mei’. We got into quite a few scuffles and I guess what happens in your core space also happens on your body.”
The shutmon leaned against the counter and flicked her ears to either side. Looking somewhat pensive. They had covered a lot of ground and the meicrackmon was happy with silence’s progress in such a short amount of time but… They had also stated they needed to do this more often with one another. If they could synergize with one another then perhaps there would be less of a gap between their skill levels.
”Likewise. How was target practice?”

The inner fight was so intense that it actually showed on their outer body?
Syre gave a small blink at that, shaking her head at the thought. "Well, I guess we can't say that you aren't putting a hundred-and-ten percent towards that training. Still, its nice to hear that the 'Mei' is helping you out, rather than thinking of you as a morsel in her claws. Um... yeah, 'mom' didn't have such a good relationship with her own."
That aside, the cat would turn back to that pot, and about a minute later, she'd scoop out a bowl of fresh chili - and offer it over to the likely-hungry wolf. "Target practice was fine! A lot of it was just knocking out the 'golden bullets' that Iko fires out into the air. Was already running hot off patrol, so no problems there. Its the spars that get me - darn wolf almost dislocated my shoulder yesterday." She shook her head, preparing her own bowl. "I think having you around is making him get more into this stuff. Oh... right, I should ask."
The cat tilted her head.
"You're, um, joining us. Right?"

”Yeah she told me a bit about that. She remembers all the things she did in her past life, she’s not super proud of it but that doesn’t change what she wants to do. It’s so much easier for her to just go along with me and be helpful than trying to eat me. That and she’s really god damn lazy. You might actually like her if you meet her. She has a habit of going to the kitchen at ungodful hours when I’m not awake.
The shutmon let out a small chuckle and shook her head; honestly the mei was something she didn’t understand still and that was okay. She was fast in a fight, skilled and during their short time together very helpful. If not a bit rougher than she was! Silence took the bowl of chili with a small smile before leaning up against the counter.
”Yeah it might just be because he’s been feelin pent up or something. Sparring probably gets him going and I can’t blame him given what I’ve heard from garlond. Or at least a little bit. Iko isn’t too keen on paperwork and well… being the ‘head’ of it currently probably doesn’t help too much.”
Silence mused as she took a spoon, scooping out some of the chili and blowing it off before taking a bite. She’d flick an ear as the other apparently had a question. The shutmon frowned a bit and furrowed her brow. She was joining them right?
”Honestly I’m not sure if I’m fit yet. I want to but… I suppose that’s up to Iko yeah? Since he’s handling all of this.”
The shutmon spun her spoon around and let out a small tutt before taking anothe rbite of that chili. It was rather good and it would be filling for her; she was sore and well… There was a few rough bits that ached here or there. So maybe sitting down in the mess hall would be needed?
”I’m still not satisfied with my performance myself; I feel like I’m missing something. I don’t know what and the Mei isn’t telling me. ‘If you think you’re missing something then find what it is.’ But I have no idea myself really. I’ve got the forms, I’ve got some skill in using them but… There’s just something that either isn’t there or that I’ve missed completely. I don't’ think I’ll be able to join until I find that. Cause it's more than just fighting, it's more than just being there for the people when they need it most. I don't anticipate it being an easy answer or one that I'll have quite yet.”

"Definitely an improvement there... and I'm sure I'll run into her eventually. No reason to force it."
Syre shrugged - it sounded like Mei wasn't the type of person to force a conversation anyway! It didn't take long for the two of them to be talking over their bowls of chili, the cat giving it a quick stir of her spoon before starting on her own portion. Indeed, Iko wasn't taking this the best: "He's not keen at it - but he is good at it when he wants to be. He's even caught stuff that Garlond's missed on his first read-through of the stuff." Their temporary leader at least had a good enough head on his shoulders. As for Silence joining the Knights?
... It seemed that Silence wasn't certain yet. That she's still 'missing' something - and that she wouldn't join until she found what she was missing. To that, however, Syre actually rolled her eyes: "Really, you think you're going to find what you're missing just by training and doing your own thing?" The cat gave a sigh. "I talked it over with Iko after our last spar. If you want in, he'll take you - provided you go 'back' to sparring with him every Tuesday and Thursday. And... this might sound weird? But take it from me."
Syre gave a small smile.
"Whatever it is? Its all going to 'click' at once."

”Hah! Fair enough I suppose. More if you were curious about her if anything.”
Silence let out a loud barking laugh and took another spoonful of her chili; she could feel the warmth of the bowl and could feel the odd curiosity of the meicrackmon spill into her consciousness. Did she really never have chili? Maybe the wolf would have to fix that at some point. She’d frown slightly and rub at her chin thoughtfully. Was it really that crazy?
”I know he said that they kept trying to slip things in? But what kind of things? Working for one of the bigger cities doesn’t sound terrible. Especially with what I was hearing about luminas’ past and their current government. Heck they pay well enough for the missions that come from there.”
Silence scratched at her neck and then shook her head slowly as the cat asked if she thought she’d find whatever she was missing just by training and doing her own thing. She’d look down at her hands and thought about what the cat said. So she would be taken in if she wanted and it was something that she wanted; something that she had dreamt of. Both future and past…
”Honestly syre all I know is that I have to search for this something. But if the two of you really think I should I don’t see why not.
The shutmon’s ears flicked to and fro; she looked strangely thoughtful and there was a long pause between her taking a bite of chili and speaking again. This was definitely the sort of thing she had to have been thinking about for a while.
”I’ve… always talked about trying to step past my previous iteration. Be my own mon and all that; but I sometimes wonder if there isn’t some semblance of sameness between the two of us. And something’s been bothering me about that for the longest time. Everyone tells me different things and everyone skirts around the subject in some way or another but...
There was a long drawling pause and she’d look down at her bowl, putting the spoon in; scrunching her brow in thought before looking up to syre.
”Who was K?”

"Trust me, that politic-stuff is way over my head - there's a reason I'm doing the fighting rather than the paperwork." Syre gave a sigh at that. She was a good thinker, but when it came to analyzing all that fine print... well, she'd leave that to the others.
It didn't take long for Silence to come around to joining the Knights. Syre did give a smile at that, but there was definitely more to it. More that the wolf was thinking about: how she wanted to 'step past' her prior iteration. But there was more than that, something bothering the wolf in particular.
... Who was K?
Syre blinked, almost biting down on that spoon as that question hit her ears. They gave a flick, the cat considering her answer - as Syre set her bowl off to the side. "... Sheesh, that's a harder question than it should be." The cat gave a small chuckle. "K was my mom. A wonderful Renamon, full of love, who put her kids before anything else. There was this stuff about the Knights and whatnot, but when it really came down to it?"
"Everything she did, she did for the family. For me, for Holly, for Siris, and for dad. People saw her as this big ol' hero, but really?"
"She was just a strong fox, hellbent on doing the right thing, loving every minute of her life."
