Was Amber nervous?
Heck yeah, she was! She was in the same boat as Coal, not really knowing how to use her techniques, or even really try and fight at all. And here they were, just a few yards away from someone that they knew was a 'Knight' - a title that sounded like it had to do a lot with fighting - and they were asked to jump right into it. As Silence addressed them, Amber took a moment to take a breath, ear flicking as she heard Coal speak.
She looked over, seeing the BlackRenamon-X mess a bit with her goggles. Right now, Amber really didn't think about how Coal's eyes could be used for fighting - so she just gave a grin.
"Neither of us really know what we're doing, right? So let's just do what we can, I guess!" Amber gave a smile, and a thumbs-up to Coal, before returning her attention to Silence. Actually, there was one thing that Amber knew how to do, quite well: manipulate light. And light, like dad said, was made up of a bunch of 'particles' in the air, bouncing off of other things.
So if none of it bounces off of me... The fox held her hands together, a brief glow of light appearing between her hands. A moment later, the space around her would start to get wavy, like heat from a mirage or a 'pulse' around her body. And just like that?
The fox vanished from sight. She stilled her breathing, and, slowly, began to walk forward and to the right, keeping her unseen eyes and attention right on the white Renamon. ... But now what do I do...

Silence shifted her weight a bit; tilting her head to one side. Her daughters would approach this differently; coal would likely hang back and amber would likely try to do something. Try to take silence’s attention from her ‘younger’ sister. The renamon’s ears flicked forward as the other spoke to coal.
Coal managed a small smile and nodded her head, the renamon knew what she could do and what she couldn’t do. What she couldn’t do was probably beat her ma in a close quarters fight. So she’d hang back and inspect the other; try to find some kind of opening she could use. The renamon-x blinked a few times as her sister vanished from sight. Okay she didn’t know that she could even do that!
Silence hummed a little bit and after a moment she’d put her hands together. Almost as though she was praying; before spreading her hands outward; in between them was a sword made out of pure energy that she’d grasp with one hand. Coal looked kind of startled and took a step back; she definitely did not know her mother could do that. In fact that blade looked very dangerous!
”Ah!”
Coal really didn’t know what to do here, there was a lot of light around the place and plenty of shadows… She’d glance around and furrow her brow. She could feel a lot of them so… Maybe just maybe the… Renamon could use that to her advantage. She’d grit her teeth a little bit and try to tug at them; but the shadows around here were so plentiful that it was hard to get a grasp on which ones she was controlling and which one she were not.
Silence’s eyes roved around and while her daughter was invisible she figured what wasn’t invisible was the way the grass would be interacting with her. She just needed to look for the rustling and where her daughters feet were interacting. She could gauge the size of this interaction based on hers and coals footwork.
So if she was amber… The eyes of the renamon sort of drifted around and Amber would find those eyes locking right onto where she was. Or rather where her feet were!
”Light manipulation and shadow manipulation. Two opposite ends of the spectrum. In any other event you two would probably give a lot of people a run for their money but you’re forgetting that your feet still muss with the grass sweetheart. I can see you even if I can’t see you.”
To enunciate this fact the renamon would point her sword directly if not slightly to one side of amber. Silence was perceptive and only needed a little bit to figure out her daughter. Coal let out a groan as she felt the shadows fight her influence and she’d rub at her face. Silence wasn’t going to push these two too hard. This was to see what they could do before she could give advice to the pair of them!
"There's... so many shadows here it's hard for me to know which ones I'm pulling..."
"Then use your own shadow, it's completely yours isn't it?"
Silence managed a small smile and coal blinked a few times; even though they were supposed to be fighting silence would be giving advice while working to help out her daughters. More like training than an actual fight it seemed. Coal nodded her head and looked down to her own shadow; she knew where it was and how much of it there was so she could pull at it a little better...

Why are her eyes still tracking me? Did I screw something up - ooooooh.
As soon as Amber heard those words, the fox found herself looking down at her feet. The near ankle-deep grass was already giving her away - so she couldn't just sneak up on their opponent! She was tempted to drop the invisibility right then and there... but, she decided against it, and after that momentary pause, kept on walking, a long circle around their opponent's left side.
"Well. You can kind of see me, mom." Angel gave a chuckle! "But if I'm even out here like this, you have to spend a lot of your time looking right at me - since I'm a little harder to see." Angel had the right idea: she didn't do anything at the moment, rather than keep her distance.
Because Angel knew: all she had to do was wait for Coal to attack, or wait for Silence to try and go after Coal. And if Silence went after Amber first, Coal would have a clean chance to go after Silence's back.
It was two-on-one. There was no reason to rush. No reason to be impatient.

Silence turned her head as she continued to track her daughter; it was a really good idea to keep her attention while coal figured out her abilities. She could already fell the tug of the shadows around her as her somewhat more nervous daughter managed to get some shadows out of her own!
”Well normally you’d have the right of it but…”
Silence gave a small shrug; she’d let this next part be a surprise. There was no reason to boost her saberk’s damage against these two; so instead she’d summon a secondary instance of her energy weapon. One for each hand. The seventh key in one hand and Saberk in the other. Both blades looked nearly identical and with a swipe in either directly both twins would find themselves the target of a wave of energy!
Coal would yipe and dive out of the way as the energy wave crashed into the ground beyond her. Leaving a deep gouge into it; it didn’t look like her mother was pulling any punches! Well. Looked like it; but to these two they wouldn’t even know what their mother was capable of. In retort? Coal would grit her teeth and make a motion, she’d have to slow her mother’s movements somehow! Maybe the shadows could do something about that?
Out of the shadows a group of chains sprung up and without much cermony silence found each of her limbs wrapped in heavy chains. Making her grunt in exertion as she quickly got used to the weight. They still hurt for some reason!
”Didn’t know you could do that… Ow…”
Coal gulped a little bit and pushed herself up from the ground.
”I didn’t know either… They just… happened.”
Coal seemed increasingly nervous; there was something about her that also seemed off. Her goggles had been cracked in one place; just out of her peripherals. Maybe that was a reason for it? Did her dive make her crack against a rock or something?

"Gah!"
She could strike both of them at the same time?! Amber didn't know that - and seeing that slash, Amber made like her sister, and leapt off to the side, a hearty crash into the ground breaking her invisibility! Granted, that was enough to dodge the slash itself, and the hearty, playful Amber was quick to get back up on her feet - and also quick to see Silence in quite the compromised position.
Tied up in chains of shadow? Amber wasn't going to question it - and she wasn't about to announce her next attack, either! Clasping her palms together, the Renamon would do something that looked relatively familiar: a number of sharp crystals appeared above Amber, each aimed towards Silence's frame. But, unlike the normal 'Diamond Storm', each of the prisms filled up with light - and a moment later, a shotgun blast of white, condensed energy bullets would rain out, aiming to pepper and strike Silence right across the back!
C'mon, work!

Both of her daughters had a good reaction; they both dived out of the way and each of them had their own response. Feeling the shackles on her the renamon snorted a bit and measured how fast she actually was with these chains around her limbs. It was a pretty damn good slow from what she could tell and giving a small spin of one sword she could tell her reaction speed wouldn’t matter too much when it came to dodging.
So she’d have to weather anything her daughters had to throw at her; much like the diamond storm that peppered her back. Amber would hear her mother grunt and take a step forward; but past that she seemed to be all right. In fact from earlier her wounds already seemed to be healing due to something else…
”Good responses each of you.”
They definitely had the pep she was looking for and with a grin the renamon shifted her weight; she had gotten used to the slow that coal had put on her. In fact it didn’t seem to be bothering her all too much; just meant that her moves would be more chaoargraphed than anything else!
Coal seemed a bit nervous still; unsure what to do. After using the shadows to do that she wasn’t sure what else she could do! Was the darkness she could work with enough for dealing with her mother? Or was it not enough given the fact that silence seemed to have both of her daughters in her mind for whatever attack she was coming up with next?
They clearly forgot one thing that renamon’s naturally seemed to be able to do, silence vanished from her spot and amber would find her mother a bit closer than she probably would have liked. In fact the renamon was well within melee range; even looking to use the sword to give her a resounding thwack across the top of her head!
But… Coal didn’t seem to like that too much; crying out for her sister and it wasn’t even a moment later that amber would find her mother blown clear off of her feet and sent tumbling over the yellow fox!
”Oof!”
This was followed with the sounds of shattering glass as her goggles had been blasted apart making the renamon-x groan and put her hands to her face. A big segment of these goggles were missing and they fell to the ground. She felt the goggles slip off of her head and fall to the ground; all the while one of her eyes stung like something had just come out of it!
”...that didn’t feel good…”
Meanwhile silence was a bit dazed; laying on the ground for a moment before sitting up. Amber would in fact be able to see the remains of a shadowish spear just beyond silence that quickly vanished into nothingness.
”...Okay I didn’t know she could do that or that would happen. Oh I’ll be a monkey’s uncle…”
Silence grumbled a bit and waved her hand at amber; signifying they should stop for a moment before she started to head over to coal who was now sitting in the grass with her hands over her eyes. A hand coming out to try to help soothe her daughter with a bit of her aura.
”There there… c’mon open your eyes up so I can get a look at them… Amber hon; grab my portal device please?”

"What the - OW!"
Amber did not expect that - Silence closed the distance in a mere instant, moving right past her array of bullets, and the Renamon X - who had no practice bracing for such an attack - was hit head on, quickly brought to her back by that single strike. It didn't help that Silence was then blasted forward, leaving both of them to tumble in the grass as that spear impacted Silence's back!
"Ugh..." Honestly, Amber wasn't aware of the spear or anything like that. If Silence was a bit dazed, then Amber was completely dizzy: as the white Renamon asked for her to ready the portal device, she would give a nod, forget about her damage for a moment and stand up - only to fall right back on her knees again, as she held a palm right up to her head.
"G-give me a moment, mom." Both Amber and Coal were still green to all of this, and though Amber wasn't giving up or crying about being hurt, it was clear that she was hurt, and didn't exactly know how to deal with it. She would manage to pick up the portal device, and click the saved 'home' option on it, before handing it right over to Silence.
"Sheesh... couldn't even let me have one?"

Silence wasn’t expecting honestly this entire array of things but at least she was quick on her feet. Finding that her younger daughter was mostly okay, just some glass in her fur and mostly unharmmed, she’d turn her head as amber was… Well not doing entirely well. Silence hadn’t been holding back in her own strikes and had bopped her daughter pretty decently.
She’d reach over with that soothing gentle light, spreading the aura through the injured portion of her daughters head. She’d gingerly rub at the top of that head afterwards and managed to give them a smile, thumbing at her back.
”Says the one that gave me a bunch of shards in my back, gonna have to have your father pick them out of me later. I’m just more used to pain than the both of you.”
The renamon pulled the two into the portal, gingerly pulling the two of them along. She looked somewhat uncertain for a moment before calling for mikemon.
”Mikemon! Coal broke her goggles and we’re going to need a little help here.”
She’d smile warmly to the both of them; she had gotten what she needed to see. The both of them needed actual practice and actual training but several things were clear to her immediately. They needed one on one sessions with people that would be able to help them in their fields. Which meant that she wasn’t the one that could help coal… but she could help amber. She also knew holly could help amber with the whole unseen thing.
”I did get to see how you reacted and what you can somewhat do… Even if coal knocked me off my feet with some kind of spear…”
Silence sighed, she wasn’t aware of how much that one attack had actually done. On her back there was a good swath of fur that was blackened from the strike and her cloak had a good hole in it. Not to mention all the little ones from where amber had hit her!
But it’d take more than two attacks to keep her down! Their mother was a tough cookie after all!
Coal this entire time was trembling and holding her hands over her face. She didn't want to move it and was worried that she was going to get glass in somewhere important!

"Ugh..."
Sure, Amber was bopped - but it wasn't as if she reduced to tears about it, or anything of the sort. Rather, she was now thinking about what she had done - both right and wrong - and everything that Silence did to try and counter the both of them. She closed her eyes, ears flat against the back of her head as that healing aura passed over the 'bump' on her head.
"Sheesh... all I did was hit you in the back while both you and Coal were confused at what Coal was doing... tch... do you think you can show me how to teleport?"
Amber would smile, but on the other side of the portal? She'd simply give dad a nod, before moving over to the couch, to lie on her back and prop her head up against a pillow.
"... Wait, she managed to crack them already?"
The doctor seemed somewhat perplexed, and maybe a little annoyed at that. "'Battle ready', my tail... well, they're insured, so I'll go and yell at the guy later. For now?" The doctor would open a drawer, and would take out a spare set of goggles, offering them to the BlackRenamon. "Here you go... as for you, hun..."
He'd chuckle, and look right at Silence's back. "Don't tell me you're taking hits to make the two of 'em feel better? Or did they actually get ya?"

”Just try to take it easy okay? You’re probably a bit rattled.”
Silence smiled a bit and flicked her ears forward; so Amber wanted to figure out how to teleport? She’d blink slowly and consider something; could amber learn how to do that? Some mons couldn’t and others you didn’t expect would know how to!
”I think I could yeah; will take a bit of work. It’s just about energy management and understanding your own flow of the stuff.”
Silence would sigh a bit at hearing mikemon ask that question; she knew that the goggles were probably expensive but… Upon seeing the goggles he’d understand that the goggles didn’t get hit from the outside. But from the inside based on the shatter point. Coal meekly would take the goggles from her father and put them on; exhaling a little bit. Her eye ached and she’d rub at her face a bit.
”They were doing just fine up until… I ah…”
”Launched some kind of spear from her eye I figure. It knocked me right off my feet! Well. Given I wasn’t braced or ready for it.”
Coal would sigh a bit and sit on the end of the couch, looking down at her sister and wanting to at least make them feel better. Silence on the other hand scratched at one of her shoulders.
”Well I didn’t know what either of them could do. Coal got me with some chains that made me slow down and amber followed up with something that reminded me of Diamond storm. Good teamwork for a pair that never have fought before.”
Silence snorted a bit and leaned forward; tapping at the mikemon’s nose with a finger.
”I wouldn’t just take hits to make them feel better, but I needed to know what I was working with for later~ That and the speed of things based on their interactions. Otherwise I can’t help them grow! I don’t mind getting hit by stuff since I can just heal from it.”
Even now some of the shards that were in her back were being pushed out by some kind of regeneration. The renamon stretched a bit and gritted her teeth as she noted that one was pretty deep in her shoulder. Reaching back she’d tap it and pluck it out with a snort.
”Healthy amount of ranged attacks so far.”

Wait, really? The attack originated from her eye?
The damage on the goggles seemed to suggest that much was the case. Seeing that, the doctor gave a sigh, pinching his sinus. "... It might be better for her to practice fighting without the goggles then. I mean, we could try and rig something so that she can raise a hand up to flick a switch and open the lens, but if she really needs to use the attack, it'll break her goggles anyway. I'll have to get a sample of the attack later, and see if we can make a material that can both act as a proper filter and let the attack pass through."
That said? The doctor would give a smile, gently running a hand over Coal's head. "As for you, don't feel bad about breaking them. In fact, you managed to learn how to use your abilities in an effective way - nothing at all to be sad about." He gave a nod, and Amber, sitting away from Coal, gave a groan.
"Mom's so used to fighting, though. I thought I could go invisible and sneak up on her, but she saw right through that..."
"... You know, Amber," Mikemon sighed, "If you were to go invisible, Coal could see you by taking her goggles off? And I could see you by looking through my crystal ball? Oh, and Silence's boss, he also has eyes that aren't even affected by changes in light - he'd see you regardless. There's a lot of ways simple invisibility like that wouldn't work..."
"Wait, really?" Amber sat up, giving a blink at that. "... Then is it not good at all, if so many people can see right through it?!"

Coal looked to her father as he explained that it might be a better idea for her to train with the goggles off. They could try to rig something but ultimately on the fly… She’d ponder for a moment and tap her fingers against the ‘new’ goggles.
”I just wish it didn’t break them…”
She’d furrow her brow and then manage a small smile up at him, looking to her sister as they spoke. Ma was very used to fighting; so she had her senses and had that knowledge of stuff. She’d ponder for a moment and glance at her mother. The renamon was now comfortably sitting in her chair, not a single shard of what amber hit her with in her back.
”It’s not good if you don’t know what to do with it I guess… So for people at our level we’d… probably be okay. And I don’t know about that Da; I haven’t tried yet. I’d have to take them off and she’d have to turn invisible right?”
Coal hesitated on that; uncertain if her eyes would actually allow her to see through that ability. Silence would then pipe up; a small smile on her face becoming really apparent.
”It’s not a bad thing that you have the ability; but I think that the fact is that most people in our family have a way of seeing through stuff like that. That and my ‘boss’ so to speak also puts me out to work when it comes to fighting so it doesn’t surprise me.”
Silence gave a shrug and coal would blink at this; hearing that there was someone tougher than their mother made her wonder just what kind of group that their mother was in. She’d ponder for a moment and then look to mikemon.
”So what if we figured out a material to make the goggles out of… and then added in some armor for the rest of it? If fightings gonna happen it’s a good idea to protect my head since that’s where an attack comes from right?”
Silence raised her brow and would say something about that before glancing down at her armored dominant hand. Figuring that mikemon had this one she’d reach over to re-assure amber.
”But just because some people can see it, doesn’t mean it’s a venue you can’t use. It just also identifies who in a fight you need to worry about most. Especially if you want to use that invisibility to escape.”

"Well, think of it this way, Coal: what you're seeing is a Digimon's 'wireframe', right? Its not something you can see normally - meaning its already something that light doesn't help you see."
And because of that, there was no reason that Amber's trick, which depended on using light to work, would ultimately impact Coal's field of view! "But, don't think of it as a bad thing, Amber. It just means that your sister will be able to see you, and respond to you, even while you're trying to hide yourself. When you get more practiced at all of this, it'll be easier for the two of you to be coordinated."
"I guess..." Amber gave a sigh, only half-convinced herself. Truly, she wasn't the most confident fighter... but, as her sister said, what about armor? On the surface, it didn't seem like a bad idea - heck, mom was already wearing armored wristguards, and even a heavy cloak around her back! "Actually, that sounds like a good idea! But why just stop at the helmet? Why not more pieces to - "
"Mm..." Mikemon shook his head at that. "You lose too much when you put on that much weight. Any piece of armor you put on has to have a direct purpose, especially for something like a Renamon. Your 'species' relies on speed and balance to fight - and I know you're looking at 'mom', but the armor and cloak she's wearing is already part of her form. Adding something additional is risky."
"As for Coal's idea..." The doctor mulled it over, as Amber gave a huff. "... I'm not sure. Just, for example, hold up your hands to your eyes like you're putting up a set of binoculars - that's what wearing a helmet is like. You see how you can't look left or right without turning your head?"

”Huh that… makes sense I guess. Well I see wireframe with one eye, the other eye sees normally.”
Coal rubbed at her head with one hand and considered what else this meant; would that mean that she could see other things as they were rather than what they pretended to be? She knew from overhearing a few conversations about illusions from holly; who apparently had to do research on the topic. She’d flick her ears at hearing what her da explained to amber. The renamon-x glanced between her father, mother and sister.
”Well armor is something that would well, ultimately slow you down yeah. The only reason I have these is because they naturally come with it.”
Silence drummed her fingers on her gauntlet and grinned at amber; she liked that sort of thinking even if it wasn’t something they’d do. Coal on the other hand was sitting there oddly thoughtful; she’d rub at her face and then glance up to the doctor. If that was the case… Well she’d do as she was asked; frowning as she could see the wireframe of her hands ever so slightly.
”I see what you mean. Why not have the lens portion extend out to where my peripherals end? Kinda like… Uhm”
The renamon glanced around and would snatch up a napkin, borrowing one of silence’s pens Coal would quickly sketch something up that was clearly an attempt at a head with a visor over the ‘eyes’. Though it was really poorly done in comparison to either of the other artists. She just didn’t have the knack for it but regardless she’d still offer the idea.
”But then again… the glasses and goggles are still really… really useful.”
She’d sigh a bit and rub her face with a hand; maybe a helmet was the wrong way to go. Maybe there was something else. But silence looked like she was considering what her daughter said; even going so far as to tracing her finger over her armor. Wondering if the same lightweight material could eventually help out coal. She’d shake her head slowly.
”I say one thing at a time. For now we should focus on finding a material that works for her goggles that lets her both see and attack from there. And for Amber… well holly would have a few good pointers for how to work with that invisibility. Though if she gets excited brace yourself...”
Silence chuckled a bit and leaned back in her seat; coal was still staring down at her little attempt at a helmet and couldn’t help but wonder what else there was that she could do...

Mikemon was treading a careful line here.
For one, he wasn't trying to stifle the creativity of either daughter - but on the other hand, stuff like combat and fighting was not something that could make too many mistakes. Even in practice bouts, stuff like too much armor or harming visibility could result in painful accidents, pinched skin, or far worse. But, on the other hand, such experimentation and mistakes was what it would take for all of them to grow, not just Amber and Coal.
"Hm?"
Seeing Coal pick up the pencil, and sketch something down, Amber took a look at it, and tilted her head. She... 'kind of' got what Coal was looking for, and as Silence looked over that sketch, the Renamon-X picked up her sketch book, and started working away at something. Mikemon, with his attention on the conversation, gave a nod to both Silence and Coal. "Coal, now that you've gotten a bit more used to it... I won't force it, but it might be a good idea to spend fifteen or thirty minutes a day with your goggles and glasses off. You can close your 'normal' eye if you want, but I want you to get used to using your 'sensitive' eye. Not all of the time, but enough that you'll be able to take off your goggles and use it if you need to, without straining yourself."
"M... mhm..."
Amber, well, the moment she picked up the pad? She completely checked out of the conversation, missing the point about working with Holly entirely. But she'd soon set her sketch pad down - and, along with a simple 'fox-head' shape, had drawn what Coal was talking about. Something like a visor, perhaps closer to the top half of a motorcyclist's helmet, that had a glass pane almost all the way back towards the periphery. "Its difficult, I think. The more 'glass' you add, the easier the entire thing would be to crack to oncoming damage, right?"
