Mundane Shopping for a Magical 'Mon (Hana)

Hm, now this will be a toughie...
It was just a nice and sunny, if a little bit chilly, day in Shibuya as the holosuited Weston Sparkwood headed down to the local grocery store to get his shopping done. He got half of what he needed at the moment - milk, fruits and meal ingredients just to name a few - but there was still plenty of shopping for the disguised Wizardmon to complete. Namely at the moment, he was in the middle of debating over which pre-cooked meal he wanted to eat for dinner that day, considering he was not feeling inspired to cook in the slightest. The problem was everything looked good, but he only had the budget for one of those meals.
Now one might be thinking that this is such a mundane problem for a Digimon to have, but that's what you get when you've devoted yourself to a peaceful life of teaching in Tokyo. Besides, Weston's magic couldn't just create food out of thin air, at least not tasty food. He still had to use his hard-earned Yen on some things, after all. And he only had the budget to pick one pre-made ready to eat meal for today.
All these choices, and it is hard to decide what I want considering I've never really indulged in too much Japanese cuisine quite yet. Maybe someone will notice I do not look like a local and will provide some form of input...?
Weston's belly rumbled and he sighed. His internal debate was just making him hungrier. If no one comes up soon, he may just have to grab one at random and hope for the best just so the rest of his shopping could get done. Japanese grocery stores were still a tad confusing for him...

Hana happily hummed to herself as she walked through the grocery store. Her dad would be working late today, so he'd left her some money to get something premade from the store for dinner, along with some other stuff that they were running low on. Data and Rush were tagging along inside her digivice, so that Data could help make sure that Hana got everything on the list (white rice, eggs, and carrots). She did have to be discreet whenever she pulled her digivice out to talk to Data, though, in order to make sure no one saw her doing it.
After getting everything else on the list, all that was left was for Hana to find something to get for dinner. Some tonkatsu sounded like a good choice if they have it.
Do they sell premade tonkatsu here? I can't remember. Oh well, I'll just get sandwiches or some bentos if they don't.
As Hana made her way to the premade meals section, grocery basket held in one hand, she noticed a man who seemed to be having trouble deciding what kind of meal to get. He didn't look like a local, so maybe he was a tourist or something? Hana figured that she'd try to help him out while she grabbed something for dinner.
"Excuse me, sir? Are you looking for something in particular? I can try to help you find it if you'd like?" Hana asked, trying to get the man's attention.

Weston continued to stare at the selection of premade meals on offer, his mind at work figuring out which ones looked the more appetizing to his craving at the time. He had learned the hard way that nice-looking dishes don't always result in a similar quality for the flavor. He knew a demon-like Digimon once that could make amazing looking food that tasted worse than just simply eating a piece of cardboard. And this was a grocery store he'd never been to before, so he couldn't be sure that he'd be satisfied with just about anything.
He was definitely overthinking this, but good luck getting Weston to admit it.
As Weston was lost in his thoughts (and probably holding up some sort of line) he was brought back to reality by the female voice. Turning around, he would come face-to-face with a student, a junior high student most likely. She shared some features as Weston, mostly the black hair and glasses. She looked like a younger version of one of his students, Rebecca Story, only with bangs, glasses and green eyes.
The young girl asked if Weston was looking for something in particular, which was a normal question considering how he was just kind of staring at the selection for a while. Weston rubbed the back of his head. "I suppose you could say that. I'm trying to pick out a meal for myself but I'm not experienced in Japanese cuisine, so I cannot decide which one I want the most. And I truly don't want a sandwich or bento box tonight, as I've had them for the past several nights."
Weston would have to be careful, as he was very prone to slipping up and revealing his secret right now...

Hana nodded her head in understanding as she scanned the selection of premade food. "Yeah, it's not fun to eat the same thing over and over again. Variety is the spice of life, as they say. If you want a suggestion for something to get, then I'd suggest maybe getting some tonkatsu if they have it. Hard to go wrong with a good pork cutlet."
*ding*
As Hana finished giving her suggestion to the man, her body tensed up as the digivice in her pocket chimed, indicating that one of her partners was trying to talk to her. The two digimon could only communicate via text boxes while inside the digivice, and so the digivice would chime to let Hana know when one of them said something. However, she couldn't just pull it out to talk to them while she was in the middle of the conversation with the man in front of her! Hopefully, her partners could wait a few a minutes until she found somewhere to talk to them in private.
*ding* *ding*
Or not. Hana's polite smile became slightly strained as her digivice kept chiming.

"Tonkatsu, huh?" Weston repeated, looking for that item among the selection. Sure enough, there was indeed some premade tonkatsu ready for sale. "Ah, here it is," Weston exclaimed joyfully, taking the package and placing it inside of his shopping basket. "Thank you very much, young lady. I very much appreciate the assistance."
Then suddenly a peculiar beeping sound was heard. It sounded kind of like an old school cell phone's ring tone. Weston looked around his immediate vicinity, wondering if he even heard a noise at all or if it was just in his head. "Did... did you hear that, miss?"
Then the beeping went off two more times. It was definitely not in his head anymore, and this time Weston actually figured out what exact sound that was: it was the exact same sound that his D-Terminal would make whenever he got a message. His smartphone had no such ringtone as the one he just heard, and he doubted that kids these days had phones that didn't at least have a touch screen.
This girl had to have a Digivice on her.
Weston politely looked at the young girl, who was clearly trying to pretend that there was no beeping sound at all. "If I am correct about this, then this is just an unexpected coincidence. If I am wrong, there's no harm in letting one person know, right?" He took off his glasses, his eyes very briefly shimmering a bright yellow color. "My human alias is Weston Sparkwood. My real name, however... is Wisemon."

At the man... no, the Wisemon's revelation, Hana quickly let out the breath she hadn't even realized she'd been holding. "Oh man, that is a weight off of my shoulders. I am not very good at hiding things. One second, please."
Han quickly pulled out her digivice, which showed the pixelated sprites of a frantic Data and a sleeping Rush.
[OH THANK YGGRDASIL. I WAS WORRIED THAT YOU MIGHT'VE BEEN IN TROUBLE, SINCE YOU WEREN'T ANSWERING.] Data's text box read. Hana merely stared at him with a deadpan look on her face before flipping the digivice around to show her partner the person she'd been talking to. [OH. MY BAD.]
"Yeah, you have an unfortunate sense of timing there, buddy." Hana apologized. "Sorry, I'm probably being rude aren't I? I'm Hana Hoshidate, by the way, and these two are my partners. Data, this is Mr. Weston Sparkwood, also known as Wisemon."
[IT IS A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU, MR. SPARKWOOD. I AM DATA THE HAGURUMON, AND MY SLEEPING BROTHER HERE IS RUSH THE KERAMON.]
Upon hearing his name, Rush perked his pixelated head up and yawned. [SOMEONE CALL RUSH?]

The disguised Digimon chuckled as he put his glasses back on, his eyes returning back to the holosuit's normal color. "You were doing fairly well until the Digivice started beeping. It's only because my D-Terminal makes a similar sound that I was able to piece it together. Otherwise I would've mistaken it for your phone, or one of those virtual pets that humans seem to really enjoy."
The young Tamer would then pull out her Digivice, a D-3 model specifically, and proceeded to show it to Weston. There he saw two sprites: one of a Hagurumon and one of a sleeping Keramon, meaning that she wasn't just a Tamer, but a twin Tamer. Weston didn't get to read the previous text, but he did read what Hagurumon said when he came face to face with Weston.
The Wisemon gave a slight chuckle. "You may want to tell your partners that trying to reach out to you in public isn't such a good idea," he would jest, amused by the whole ordeal. The girl introduced herself as Hana Hoshidate, with the Hagurumon and Keramon named Data and Rush respectively. "Data and Rush... very catchy names! I would love to show you my true form but it would look very... bizarre to any passers by, would it not?"
"So, tell me... how long have you been a Tamer, may I ask? I may not have a partner myself but I know enough about the Digital World and Digimon to inform new Tamers about aspects they may need to know, if you're interested."

"I've only had these two with me for about a couple months or so, so we're still figuring some things out at the moment. But our first digimon encounter was with an Angemon and his son who explained the Digital World to us, so we're good on that front. We don't have holosuits, so I've been trying to disguise them as virtual pets when we go out in public. The only reason I brought them to the store with me is so Data can help me make sure I don't forget anything on the shopping... list." Hana explained, before facepalming in realization. "Oh my god, why didn't I just write down the list and bring it with me? That would've been a lot less complicated."
[THAT'S... ACTUALLY A REALLY GOOD POINT, HANA. WHY DIDN'T WE THINK OF THAT?] Data's text box replied, his sprite showing that he was deep in thought. [OH WELL, SOMETHING TO PONDER WHEN WE GET HOME.]
With no one really talking to him, Rush had taken the opportunity to go back to sleep.

So they were only partnered for a couple of months it seems, but they had met an Angemon and his son who explained the Digital World to them, so they seemed to be knowledgeable on that front. "Hm, I see. Still, I know more about Digimon and our world's history if you ever need assistance. In the day I teach world literature at the Shibuya Academy. By the looks of it, I'd assume you're in... seventh grade at the school?" Probably a real confidence booster for Hana right there.
Hana explained that her Digimon didn't have holosuits, so she disguises them as virtual pets in public. A very smart move, most humans pay no mind to those with virtual pets. She claimed the only reason she brought them to the supermarket was so she didn't forget anything on her list. Before Weston could ask though, Hana came to that question herself: why DIDN'T she just write it down?
Weston couldn't contain his laughter at this revelation. He turned his head away and chuckled greatly, this situation was very humorous for him! "Humans can truly be hilarious at times, I cannot help but laugh!" Once he calmed down he would hand Hana a completely blank notepad. "You may want to keep this on you, just in case."
If Hana was paying attention, she'd probably notice how that notepad just magically appeared in his hands. Digimon can do some fancy stuff, but not many can just do straight up magic. What other wonderous secrets did this guy have...?

"Seventh gra...? How young do you think I am?!" Hana sputtered in indignation, recoiling at Weston's guess. "I'll have you know that I'm a 15-year-old in the 10th grade, thank you very much! Next year is my first year of high school."
[OH NO. THIS ISN'T GOOD. HANA, I KNOW YOU'RE ANGRY BUT YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN BEFORE YOU CAUSE A SCENE!] Data worriedly chimed in, trying to calm down his partner before she drew some unwanted attention.
After reading the text box, Hana knew that Data had a point. She took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down. "You're right Data. I let my temper get the best of me. I'm just getting sick and tired of people thinking I'm younger than I actually am. I can't help it if I'm short!"
Her anger was quickly forgotten when Weston handed her a notepad that he seemed to conjure out of thin air. "How'd did you pull this out of thin air? I don't... this makes no sense."
Her brain could not process what she'd just witnessed.

Weston's eyes widened as a bead of sweat dropped from his head, completely caught off guard by Hana's sudden rage. The young lady loudly corrected that she was actually fifteen years old and in ninth grade, going into high school next year. Weston would then start bowing repeatedly, ashamed by his abhorrent mistake. "I-I am so sorry, ma'am, I truly did not know!"
Hana's sudden rage did gain a couple of strange looks overall, but thanks to Data the girl calmed down relatively quickly, leaving those observing to just carry on with their days. Hana expressed how she was sick of people constantly thinking that she was younger than she actually was. "I can understand how that might be frustrating. It was wrong of me to assume, Hana."
The situation dissipated even faster after that when Weston handed Hana the notepad. Naturally, she was confused about where it came from. And Weston was more than happy to tell her. "Ohoh, I see... you haven't come across Digimon who can use magic yet. Well, I am one of the many Digimon in the Digital World with access to the mythic arts of our world. While I cannot do full attacks in my holosuit, I found that I am free to do much simpler magic spells without my form glitching. That notepad was actually just merely sitting at my house, I simply teleported it over here. Simple as that!"

[WELL, THAT'S ONE DISASTER AVERTED. GOOD JOB, EVERYONE.] Data snarked from within the digivice, although speaking via text box made it almost impossible to actually tell that he was being sassy. His snark ended up waking Rush back up, who simply smacked his brother and tried to go back to sleep. [OW.]
"You're not helping, Data. And I forgive you for your mistake, Mr. Sparkwood. I know that you didn't know any better. It's just something that grates on you after a while." Hana calmly replied to the Wisemon's apologies. It was the last part of the Wisemon's words, however, that caused Hana to freeze up. "D-did you say that you used magic to summon this? There are Digimon that can actually use magic? I-I don't even-"
This sudden revelation was simply too much for Hana's overtaxed brain to process, causing it to promptly shut down. Hana quickly fell backwards in a dead faint, her basket of groceries spilling onto the grocery store floor.
[HANA? HANA?! HAAAANNNNAAAAAA!] Data helplessly called out from the fallen digivice.

Ah, so Hana gets comments like that often it seemed. Comments about how she looks younger than she actually was. Weston felt a little bit better that he wasn't the only one to make that mistake, but he still felt a bit shitty about it. Maybe it was because he made an assumption about someone before knowing them, something he tries not to do on a regular basis. After all, he was from the Dark Area of the Digital World yet he considered himself to be at least decent.
"Still, I apologize for making such an assumption," Weston told the young girl. "This is a good learning experience, at least. I will try harder to not assume such things in the future."
Problems rose once again when Weston shared that he possessed the power of magic with Hana. Her brain seemed to be completely fried trying to process the information. So much so that... she completely collapsed, fainting on the spot.
"..."
Weston was absolutely speechless. This was not the outcome that he was expecting. Without thinking (and before anyone could see) she scooped up Hana in her arms, as well as grabbing her Digivice, and deactivating his holosuit in order to use his teleport ability... Once Hana would eventually wake up, she'd find herself laying down on a beige sofa in a very strange house. It was a pretty dark house, the walls surrounding Hana and her Digimon ranged from burgundy to plain brown, bookcases resting against the walls as well. It sort of looked like an old school library...
Sitting in a dark green chair opposite of the couch would be presumably Wisemon, a humanoid Digimon wearing a cream-colored hood and red robes. He was simply reading from a book (that was of course levitating above Weston's hand) when Hana would wake up. "I hope you are doing well, Hana," he would say as he put down the book, looking right at the Tamer. "I am making a whole series of mistakes today it seems."

"Ugh, what happened?" Hana groggily asked, as her brain took a few moments to fully wake up. The first thing she noticed was that a sleeping Rush was laying on top of her. Hana gently rubbed his head, causing the Keramon to rub the sleep out of his eyes. "Hi, buddy. How're you doing?"
"Mama? Mama!" Rush cried, fully alert now as he hugged Hana.
"Too tight." Hana quickly stated, prompting Rush to loosen his grip a bit. "That's better. Where are we?"
"You passed out in the supermarket, so Mr. Sparkwood teleported us to his house while we waited for you to wake up." Data explained, hovering nearby. "I feel like I should be cross with someone over this whole mess, but I know it wasn't anyone's fault. I'm just glad you're okay, Hana."
"Thanks, Data. That was a rather embarrassing thing for me to do." Hana responded, face turning red from embarrassment. When Weston spoke to her about his mistakes, Hana merely shook her head and said, "No, this wasn't your fault, Mr. Sparkwood. Nobody could've predicted that things would've turned out like that. I suppose I should be thanking you for getting us out of there before we ended up drawing unwanted attention."

It was very adorable seeing how Rush hugged his Tamer like that when she woke up, going as far as to call her "Mama" as well. Weston just couldn't help but smile warmly at that, which to the others' perspectives would look as if Weston just simply closed his eyes. The drawbacks of having a hidden face and all. "I am glad that you are awake now. You had me worried for a moment there, after all."
Hana of course asked what happened, allowing Data to explain the whole situation to her. "It was a rather risky thing to do, since I was deactivating my holosuit in public," Weston explained as he levitated the book back onto the end table beside his chair. "I hope that no one was around at the time..."
Hana then explained to Weston that the situation was not his fault, that nobody could've predicted how things would turn out. Weston sighed. "It was still on me, I feel. For a human, the very idea of a Digimon existing is possibly magic in and of itself, so naturally I thought you wouldn't be as surprised as you were to learn about my own abilities. I am willing to answer any questions you may have, at the very least. And no not worry, I will not bring up the situation after today, if you are that embarrassed."
Suddenly Hana, Data and Rush could hear a loud growling sound. Weston's eyes widened, and it was clear where the source of the sound was: the Wisemon's stomach. His blush was so bright it could be seen even past his shadow-covered face. "A-Ah, apologies for that rude sound... I left our groceries behind, and I used up all my energy for today."
