The Moonblossom Monastery was ordinarily a place of peace and quiet, the very definition of tranquility as the members of the Moonstone Travelers went about their daily business. Today, however, was an exception for one entity many called the Fatebreaker, and for a particular fox.
Because someone who was not from the team was visiting today. Mostly to spend time with her mother, but she did admittedly also come here to see somebody else given they were co-workers. "Moooom, where's auntie at?" Omen inquired to the robed Keramon, who she had been walking with throughout the monastery. The first floor was largely where they had been throughout the day.
...Mostly because Mae was unsure how Toki and Omen would interact, and quite frankly, she did not wish to be the cause of stress. "They might be in the kitchen. I'm...unsure, I've been a bit scatter-brained all day and I wasn't expecting you to come by...Not that you're unwelcome, though. I'll fight whoever makes you feel that way."
"Cool! I'll help too." It was at that moment that Omen picked up the scents of the kitchen...and promptly darted off, which prompted an alarmed Mae to take off after her! In no time at all, Omen'd practically barge into the kitchen! ...Whatever state it might be in. "HI!"
Someone was extroverted today. Weird.

Living on-and-off in the Moonstone Monastery was interesting, and pleasant, to say the least. Between Toki and Mae both being wonderful to hold conversations and have tea with, and Shade being the perfect cuddlebuddy and a sweetheart in his own right, day-to-day life here was warm and cozu; something that Makoto always enjoyed coming back to, even if they sometimes would return to their own home in Rosewood from time to time.
Today would be no different - Makoto humming gently to themself, as they were chopping up vegetables; making something in the slowcooker, for dinner later tonight. A potroast, to be exact! It was likely a bit different from the usual fare of asian food that everyone here tended to enjoy having - but the Renamon-X was feeling like mixing things up today, and experimenting a bit. A good potroast like this would provide plenty of food for everyone, after all, and they had made doubly sure to make sure there'd be leftovers for if anyone got hungry the day after.
As Makoto worked on preparing the ingredients though, the distant sound of little itty-bitty claws tapping on the polished wood floor would catch both their and Kuro's attentions - the shadow turning its 'gaze' towards the entrance to the kitchen. <Someone's coming...> It'd murmur - to which Makoto chuckled. <Sounds like a certain darling kit, if you ask me.> They'd respond, taking the time to toss the now-chopped vegetables in the slowcooker, alongside the roast within, and setting the cuttingboard aside for now as they dismissed the shadowy knife they had been using.
When Omen burst into the kitchen proper though, Makoto and Kuro both couldn't help but jump a little nonetheless at the suddenness - even if they both expected the Wispmon's entrance. The older Renamon-X was more than happy to laugh this surprise off, though, as they turned towards Omen; kneeling down to her level, and opening their arms to offer a hug. "Well well well, I can see my favorite lil niece has come to visit," They'd muse out loud, a warm smile plain and visible on their face. "How're you doing, Omen darling? Have you been good, since we last saw each other?"
<Hello, Omen.> Kuro would gently greet Omen - its presence a familiar and welcoming warmth against the young kit's mind. Having had time to warm up to her, the shadow wasn't all too shy towards her anymore - it even felt a bit fond towards her, in the same way that Makoto did. <What brings you here?>

Now, was running towards and into the kitchen a stealthy approach? No. Not in the slightest. There was no reason for Omen to be silent here outside of respect for people who might not wish for...well, loudness! The Wispmon darted forward and leapt into Makoto's arms for a hug. Granted, they would need to catch her, but...
It was as close as Omen could reasonably get to hugs. "Oh! Um, I've been good!" She was trying. In truth, she had not been up to too much since last they met, she had mostly been spending as much time with Mae as she could. After all, Omen had been deprived of a maternal figure for most of her life. Maximizing time with those was probably a priority.
Speaking of Mae, though, the Keramon would poke her head into the kitchen, sniffing. "...Oh, gosh, um, that's a nice potroast..." She murmured, before shaking her head and looking to Makoto and Omen. "Sorry if anything was interrupted--but hi regardless, Makoto. Omen wanted to come visit and she got a bit impatient, eheh..."
"Auntie can't wait." Omen nodded. She looked between Kuro and Makoto. "Well. I wanted to visit. And given my mom was also here, I thought it'd be nice for you two to get to know each other better. That and...um. Other stuff. I think we can talk more over food? I don't know how much that pot roast serves..."
"...Remember to say please, Omen." Mae gently reminded. "...Pleeeeeeeeeease? Is that what you want?" Omen half-said and half-groaned.

Makoto would be more than happy to catch Omen as needed - wrapping their arms around her, and cradling her close in a warm embrace. "That's good to hear, dear." They'd murmur to the little Wispmon - stroking the top of her head with one hand - in hearing that their niece was doing good. "It's nice to see you, darling; is it just me, or have you been growing big and strong?" It was a gentle and affectionate tease, paired with a light nuzzle from them.
But it wasn't only Omen who was here to visit - it looked like Mae would be here, too! "Thank you, darling." They'd mention to Mae with a warm smile. "The potroast will be for dinner later tonight - but both are you are more than welcome to attend, of course; there should be more than plenty in there to feed everyone, once it's ready." They made sure of that, after all; leftovers were always good to have, and potroast tended to reheat perfectly fine!
"There's no worries, though; slowcooker meals are easy, and can wait a minute when adorable darling nieces, and their dear mothers, come along~" With that, Makoto would set Omen down, and (playfully and gently) pinch at the Wispmon's cheeks, while smooshing them.
With the question of food though, as well as Omen being reminded to say 'please', the older Renamon-X couldn't help a gentle laugh. "That's a good girl, Omen dear - manners are good to have; saying please shows people that you appreciate the favor and effort you're asking of them." They'd praise the Wispmon, gently ruffling the top of her head, before standing up. "Since the potroast is for dinner, we'll have to wait a good bit for that to be ready - but I'm more than happy to make us some lunch in the meantime. What would either of you like to eat?"
Making food for everyone was of no issue to Makoto; they had been getting a bit peckish themself, anyways, and putting smiles on other peoples' faces was always good.

"Well, I learned more on how to digivolve without getting into life threatening situations so I guess I grew up somewhat or something? I dunno, I at least get taller when I digivolve--unlike mom." Omen nodnodded in her aunt's arms.
"...Wow. You're. You're really just going to do me like that? Wow." Mae was a bit deadpan on how she delivered that line, though there was no genuine malice there. Just light amounts of teasing towards her daughter. "So it's...Okay, I see. I...I am not that skilled with cooking. I legitimately just make breakfast sandwiches all the time."
The ensuing groan from Omen indicated that there was truth to this. "I wanna eat something that's not a sandwich, please!" She declared, seeming to be happy that there was dinner in store. "Omen...That doesn't tell them what you want. Be more specific." Gentle reminders.
"Oh...Um. Hm. I don't...know. What's available...?" Omen inquired, tilting her head.

Makoto couldn't help but laugh warmly at the teasing and banter shared between mother and daughter - reaching a hand up to ruffle Omen's head, before setting down the Wispmon. "You can't be too sure; your mom might end up surprising you, if you two ever end up comparing Ultimate stage forms, or even Mega stage forms." They'd point out, smiling warmly at the youngster.
Of course, one could never say for sure how far a digimon will go until they actually reach those stages; and Makoto wasn't sure if they ever saw Mae past her Champion form. But, it never hurt to throw in a good-natured tease sometimes.
In the meantime though, there was the question of food - to which there was only one big request: no sandwiches! "Aww, what a shame - there's so much you can do with a sandwich, y'know." Makoto would tease Omen, with a warm chuckle. "But that's no problem; it shouldn't be too hard to figure out something else."
As Makoto began perusing through the kitchen for ideas, (Kuro sliding along the walls of the kitchen as it joined in the search,) they'd hum to themself - mentioning to Mae and Omen "Since we're in the Blossom Isles, most of the ingredients we have around here are typically things you'd expect to find in more Asian-oriented cuisine, particularly the sort of stuff you might find in the Human World's Japan, which is where Shibuya is. However, I do make sure to pick up other sorts of ingredients, just so we can have a variety." As if to prove their point, Makoto would nod towards the slowcooker, the potroast slowly cooking inside.
"As far as options go though, we could whip up something quick and easy with some rice or noodles if you want something freshly made, or do something like a soup - though that may take a little longer. There is also some leftover casserole in the fridge from the night before that I can heat up for all of us, as well." Glancing to Omen and Mae, Makoto would smile and conclude "If either of you have any suggestions or ideas though, I'm all ears."

"Pffft, pffft...Meicrackmon are just the height of a normally fully grown human, it can't be that big!" Omen seemed fairly certain of this, but it was also obvious she had not considered Rasielmon, a form she had never seen Mae assume and one that was also significantly taller than Meicrackmon had been.
"Besides, mom always does ham egg and cheese." Mae fell silent as Omen had continued to speak. She had very little to add here, and she was honestly more curious as to how her daughter would interact with the fox. They had never given Mae the impression of someone who wasn't good with kids, so it was essentially...seeing if there lay proof.
Stupid for a cat that can see what will be. Though, Asian-oriented cuisine... "...Rice? Can we make a roll of sushi, then? I want to give that a try." That may or may not have been a touch too complex, but the kitchen likely did have some ingredients to make a decent roll. Was this a good thing? Or did Omen have to revise her course of action?

"You'll never know - many digimon vary widely in size, after all, even if they're of the same species." Makoto would chuckle - a wry smile to their face as they knelt down before the little Wispmon. "Can't say for sure, until you see her as a Meicrackmon - or one of her later stages - for yourself; and even beyond that, it's good to be ready for whatever possibilities may come your way, darling."
"Possibilities, including.... THIS!" Suddenly, Makoto would begin to tickle at Omen, as they playfully growled "Ooga booga booga!" at the younger fox; how would Omen approach this sudden tickle attack?
Well, either way, Omen would eventually ask about them having some sushi then - to which Makoto would hum thoughtfully. "That'll take a little bit of time to make - but I can do sushi for all of us." They'd respond with a warm smile, adding in suggestion "Would you two like to help out, by taking a look through the pantry and fridge while I get the rice cooker going, and picking out any ingredients that might sound good in some sushi?"
It wasn't too hard to get the rice cooker set up on the counter, and it only took time for them to get the bag of sushi rice and actually get it going in the cooker - but as they worked, they'd mention "People usually put seafood of some form in their sushi - be it fish, or crab, or even stuff like eel or sea urchin. But, if you want me to try making something out of more oddball ingredients, feel free to suggest it to me and I'll let you know if I think I can make it work."
Now the only question was, what the mother-daughter duo would pick out for the sushi!

"I dunno, I've seen her as a Meicrackmon...She gets as tall as doorframes in that form. At least when she's not napping everywhere." This was really just becoming Omen taking as many shots at her own mother (in good fun, at least!) as she could. At Makoto's clever fake-out, the Wispmon would tilt her head.
Before the fox's ploy proved to be a success, allowing them to tickle Omen with little impunity, the Wispmon quickly falling over and laughing uncontrollably as she tried to worm her way out of this.
Of course, this elicited a giggle from Mae. "A timeless weakness, Mide." And a slip of the true name.
In time the tickle attack would fade, though, and Omen quickly got up to her feet, a swift hop. She shook her head. "...Warn me next time, Auntieeeee." She spoke towards the fox, though she wasn't actually upset at them.
"We would love to." Mae nodded. It was only polite that they'd pick their ingredients rather than leave poor Makoto to pick EVERYTHING out. The Keramon would beckon the Wispmon over as they began to rifle through the pantry and fridge.
Of course, Omen wanted to pick the enemy of man, crabs. While Mae went for fish. She was a Meicoomon. What else was to be expected? After Omen handed Mae the bag of crab meat, the Keramon went to set the fish bag and crab bag down at the counter. "Donezo." The Keramon stated, seeming pleased with herself!

"But how can I, when you look so cute and precious, smiling and laughing like that~?" Makoto would tease right back; briefly and playfully pinching Omen's cheeks, before patting her on the head, and standing back up with a warm smile. "Besides; I think we both know that I can make you laugh at any time, without even laying a single finger on you." They'd add with a chuckle - wiggling a single claw in Omen's direction briefly, as if to convey the point.
(Makoto couldn't figure out why - but even when they were a kid, the 'pretend tickles' always tended to make them break out into laughter; and it seemed to work for just about any child, at that.)
But all that aside, it was time to get to work on figuring out some ingredients - and while Omen and Mae did pick out the main ingredients, Makoto would also pick out some general condiments and veggies and the like, that typically went into sushi - things such as cucumber and sesame seeds and spicy mayo. "Oooh, looks like you've got a good selection there, thank you darlings." Makoto would muse with a smile, as Mae set the two bags down on the counter. Might as well do a little bit of preparations, while the rice was still cooking!
Thus, Makoto would get out a few cutting boards, and would materialize a knife from Kuro's shadow, before getting to work chopping some of the fish, crab meat, and vegetables into proper portions for when it was time to put everything together. And as they worked, they'd smile over to Omen, mentioning "So you mentioned learning to digivolve outside of fights - do you think you'd be able to show me, Omen dear? I'd love to see how you've been progressing, on that front."
And glancing over to Mae, they'd also ask "I don't think we've ever had a chance to talk all that much, by the way - how've things been for you, Mae darling? Anything particularly exciting going on?" They could handle conversations with both individuals - and they didn't want Mae to feel left out at all, either.

Did Omen really look that cute? Huh. The Wispmon couldn't help but feel a bit flustered at that--direct praise from auntie Makoto in front of her mom? But at the same time, she let out a laugh at the wiggling of the claw.
...Seeing her own daughter being so jovial with them only brought a smile to Mae's face. It was nice that Omen had managed to befriend someone who was able to care for her like that. Just as she would likely no doubt serve to be a great ally to them as well.
"I just wanted to eat the crab!" Omen chirped, which elicited a snicker from Mae! "...I don't think she got that from any of us, but...Crab cakes are one of her favorite things to eat. I can't fathom why." Probably because crab cakes were fucking radical, dude. On the subject Omen mentioned earlier regarding learning to Digivolve outside of fights?
Well, she was pretty excited to show that off to them! "I can! Nanami helped me with it and everything and it looked super cool!" The Wispmon scurried on over to a more spacious part of the room, before she focused, the flame on her center seeming to expand out to envelop her as the Wispmon made a quiet digivolution to the form of Teumesmon. An overtly excited one, at that!
"And I didn't even need to say I'm ready to die or anything!"
"...You shouldn't be saying that in the first place..." Mae murmured, looking a little downcast for a Keramon, before she glanced to Makoto. "Nothing I would personally deem exciting. I've essentially been appointed to replace my mentor's daughter's position in Luminas, so...Lot of paperwork there, so...It's been busywork. Keeping up with Omen and Tomi, on top of the occasional earth-rending occurrence means I rarely get a moment of time."
A sigh was had.
"So, times like these are much...more valuable now than they were before. What about yourself? I realize I don't know a lot about you, yet my daughter seems to regard you as family. How have things been with you?"

As Omen expressed her desire for crab - and Mae mentioned her love for crab cakes - Makoto would chuckle, smiling warmly and nodding. "I'll make sure that your sushi has plenty of crab in it, then; how does that sound, Omen darling?" They'd offer - smiling warmly as they continued to prepare the ingredients. Hopefully, they'd be able to make plenty of sushi, that Omen and Mae both would be able to enjoy.
In the meantime though, Omen seemed excited over the subject of showing off her ability to digivolve on her own - and Makoto couldn't help a warm laugh, at the child's enthusiasm. "Well, let's take a look-see, then!" They'd muse as they watched Omen scurry to some open space - and as the little fox's inner flame enveloped her, it'd soon reshape her into Teumesmon! Makoto, however, would simply give Omen a sympathetic gaze at the mention of her not needing to say 'I'm ready to die.'
"I'm still sorry that you had to go through such a stressful situation then, dear - if I had had any control over the situation at that time, I would've kept you well out of harm's way." The Renamon-X would murmur, reaching out to pat Omen on the head once again. It didn't help that they had - at the time - thought that Omen was already able to reach Champion, given the mission's initial requirements. "But nonetheless, I'm happy to see you be so excited, over this - your Champion form is quite impressive, Omen darling. How's Nanami been, since we last met?"
And Mae, meanwhile, would talk about general busywork in Luminas, as well, as keeping up with her two daughters. "If you ever need help with looking after either of them, I'm more than happy to lend a hand, Mae darling." Makoto offered, adding "I'm more than happy to be a family friend for you all; and us being in the same team means keeping in touch shouldn't be too tough."
As far as how things have been with them, though... "Ahhh... If I'll be honest, not much has been going on, since the Crystal Tyrant mission." Makoto chuckled softly. "I've mainly been taking it easy, and continuing with my general travels, while coming either back home or here on an occasion to relax and socialize with friends. Perhaps I ought to find myself some excitement, sometime soon?" Chuckling jokingly, they'd add "Perhaps it'd even help take a couple of those earth-rending occurrences off your shoulders, depending."

Extra crab in the sushi...Somehow, this sounded even better for Omen, considering the Teumesmon was nodding her head pretty vigorously. But the topic had shifted pretty quickly since then, towards a matter that Omen was still not very sure if she felt comfortable with discussing. The mission...
It had proven a bit deadlier than she would've liked, but...that was what she was supposed to expect, right? Her mom had warned her about it and all... She looked towards Makoto, unsure how to feel towards their words. "...Please don't worry about it. I ended up in that situation through my own actions. I don't think it's fair that you should blame yourself for anything."
Really, it was her and Lagi's method of approaching that that led to such a thing.
It was best to cover all the bases there. Either way! "Nanami's been fine! We actually took a few photos together during the festival at Ys! ...I'm still trying to process being a princess, but I think I did a good job there." The Teumesmon seemed to move away from such a dour subject pretty quickly. Plus, she even seemed to preen herself at being called impressive.
"I think you actually did win the contest--I saw a photo titled 'The Prince and the Princess' up at the higher echelons of the contest. Had someone with pink hair and a flaming fox being offered flowers." Mae mused. "It is a mystery, truly." The Keramon kept her attention trained upon the fox. "That...would genuinely be nice. It's a difficult task, so every bit of help means a lot."
Taking it easy, though? That was a luxury. One that elicited a quiet chuckle from Mae. "In my experience, excitement often finds you rather than the other way around. Though I won't lie when I say that I've spied you dealing with a few of those earth-rending events at times."
Omen meanwhile piped up! "So how long does the sushi take to be ready?"

Omen's reassurance would bring an almost sad smile to Makoto's face - and they'd briefly continue to pet Omen, letting out a gentle sigh. "I'm sorry for the heavy subject, dear - I suppose you could say that I have a strong maternal instinct, with how old of a fox I am." They'd muse, their smile brightening slightly, almost hopefully, as they added "Youngsters like yourself should be able to live without the stresses of the world hanging over you; I want to see every young darling in this world be able to live a happy, safe, and healthy life, even if it isn't always possible, given the times we live in."
Demon Lords, strange spires of light, drama in the human world... There always seems to be a new trouble arising one after another, with no chance for the world to rest and breathe. If only the troubles could cease, for a good few years...
But nonetheless, the subject would shift to Nanami - to which Makoto chuckled warmly, at hearing what Omen had to share. "Ahhh, it's a shame I never did get around to visiting Ys during the festival. Perhaps next year, I could give it a looksee?" They'd muse with a thoughtful hue, adding "I'm happy to hear that you and Nanami dear had a good time together from the sounds of things, though."
Their expression would soon become wry and (affectionately) teasing though, as they made a show of bowing before the Teumesmon, questioning "Mayhaps - with the high prestige your dear mother speaks of - you could show me your wondrous photos, of your time in the beautiful kingdom of Ys, your highness?" They'd break their showy act with a warm giggle though as they straightened back up - adding "Only if you want to, darling. I don't want you to feel put on the spot from all of my teasing and theatrics."
With Mae's agreement though, Makoto nodded to the Keramon; mentioning "I'll be more than happy to keep an eye out for them, where possible, then. Perhaps I could even see about teaching the lovely little dear here how to do stuff like make sweets, or read fortunes, hmmm?" They'd smile down at the fiery fox in question for this - watching to see how Omen felt about the suggestion.
"I suppose that means I just have to become more of an excitement magnet than you are, then, someway somehow." Makoto would respond to Mae's remark, though would then muse thoughtfully "Though it'd certainly make looking after the sweet lil tykes a bit tougher, if I have to go fighting Baihumon at the same time." With a teasing and humorous hue, they'd add "Maybe I'll just have to invest in those harnesses, for carrying the lil darlings around?"
Of course, they'd never take a young digimon with them on some big adventure like that - that was just too dangerous! - but the mental image was likely an amusing one nonetheless.
With the question of how long sushi usually took to be ready though, Makoto would smile, mentioning "It usually takes a lil bit - but not too long, no worries. The biggest factors are in waiting for the sushi rice to cook, waiting for it too cool, and the actual assembly, which--" And oop, there went the ricecooker; Makoto being interrupted when it gave a little beep! "... Which, as you can see, the cooking doesn't take too long - give me just a second, dear."
Taking out what almost looked like a little wooden rice paddle, as well as a bottle of sushi vinegar, they'd open up the ricecooker and begin to mix a bit of the vinegar into the rice - using the paddle to mix it. "In the drawer over there -" They'd speak meanwhile, gesturing with their tails. "- There's a bamboo mat, that's rolled up somewhere in there. Do you mind getting it out for us, Omen darling?" It was in plain sight in the drawer, so retrieving it would likely be of no problem to the Teumesmon.
Once the rice was sufficiently mixed, they'd take the 'bowl' portion of it out with a potholder, and put a cool damp towel over it and put it in the refrigerator so that it could cool. "Sushi rice is a lil different from normal rice - namely that it has a stickiness to it that helps keep it all together. You usually want to season it - sometimes with a little bit of rice vinegar, maybe a bit of sugar or salt, it all is dependent on your personal taste. Once this has cooled off though, we can begin assembling proper."
With that though, Makoto would smile to Omen, asking "Do you want me to teach you how putting together a sushi roll works - and let you try assembling one as well - dear?"
