Shi gave a small shrug at her apology. "It happens, I have a little sister myself. Take one eye off her and she'll rush off to who knows where, touching everything along the way." That made it a bit more believable as to why Shi wouldn't be too annoyed by it. "He's a local hero with us, didn't want to bring him along but considering someone smashed the sign outside with a cinderblock better safe than sorry." Shi didn't have to mention the fact that it was this very same hero that smashed it, best to just ignore that for now.
Though her response to what Shi had said felt, very conceited to him. Without losing the look on his face Shi merely gave a shrug with a shake of his head. "You'd have a better answer to that then me. Technology ain't infallible after all, especially something advanced like this, could be a programing error or some sort of faulty batch." That was the best explanation Shi could give. "After all as a researcher you should know that stuff like this would probably need a few kinks worked out, especially what I assume would be considered a generation 1 of your project given this is the first I've heard about any of this. Though I'd prefer not to overstep or nothing that's just my view on it." This would also give Shi a bit more credibility that he was here to actually learn what was going on. So unless one of his allies had a better idea this was the best he could do.
However all of that was for nothing given that Adrian just outed them at the first sign of conflict, exactly the first mention of conflict in fact. the look on Shi's face was pretty evident even for his lack of emotions as his eyes just slightly narrowed and he gave a sigh. "Though I guess disregard all I said. Guess all that's thrown out the damn window. Yuudai, Yasuo. Unclench." Shi figured Adrian would just tell her anyway so might as well just let them go as well. "All you need to know is these things are actually sentient, walk talk like you and me. Forgive me if I don't want to specify but we're a bit low on time here. Surely knowing you're making sentient beings into walking servants should be enough." If anyone else was gonna tell her more than that Shi wasn't going to stop them.
"Yup, we can talk. Walk, all that stuff. I can't vouch for all of my kind but pretty sure most of us don't want to be servents." Yuudai mentioned figuring he should say something to back Shi up.
"We just want to help our Kin and our brother here is helping us. I think that's understandable enough." Yasuo added with a stern look on his face, he wanted to make sure she knew he was serious.

This woman's conceited tone caused Sarumon's eyes to begin glowing brightly once again as her fur bristled yet the small demon monkey kept her cool despite that. Though she didn't know if this woman could be trusted despite having a daughter she wanted to give her a fair chance. Besides Shi seemed to be handling things fine so for the time she didn't have to say anything. Though Adrian gave them away she bear no irritation toward him but who was this Zaan anyway? That was the biggest question now rolling in her head.
When Shi revealed that the digimon were sentient being without using the word digimon Sarumon felt relaxed. "The helpers are also not made at this place they are kidnapped and enslaved by some sort of virus. Does that sound right to you as a researcher?" Sarumon finally said now that there was no reason to be acting as a zombie her wings flapping softly as she remained aloft. "Besides I am the only one of this species so there are no demon spider monkeys enslaved here at Z-Tech." she said with one of her fangs slightly showing her disgust in the companies' practices openly.

Zack sniffed sharply, dropping the act the second it was no longer useful. He fixed his posture, getting up to his full height, cracking his neck side to side and cracking his knuckles against the palm of either hand. The act of the playful local hero was dropped like a stone through open air as he returned to the state he had been in, snarling, glaring at the scientist from behind that purple shimmering ebony visor.
"I have a daughter too, doctor." he said, marigold buzzing to real life as she buzzed up to his hand, letting him run his fingers along her head and back. "And let me say this on no uncertain terms. You're working for the bad guy, you have been the entire time. And that same bad guy wants to take my daughter away from me, beyond that he wants to crush her soul and turn her into a robot. So as far as I see it, you have two choices." He said, very sharply holding up his hand and extending two gloved fingers, every motion he made was harsh and sharp. "You can either help us do what you already know is right. OR you can spend the rest of the night in a closet with a bump on the head. Your choice." He said, not being nearly and friendly or diplomatic as usually came naturally to him but he wasn't playing games. The scientist could either get on board or get out of the way by force.

Adrian was premature to drop the act, thinking that she had already seen right through all their lies and deciding to just come clean on the spot, no doubt to the annoyance of his accomplices. Whoops. The young man felt very awkward about it and was now imagining all his comrades glaring at him with looks of intense frustration. He would just kinda... not say anything for right now. Avoid making everyone angrier at him.
Shi and Zack had their Digimon un-clench along with Stacy as soon as the jig was up. Shi explained that they were sentient creatures with thoughts and feelings and, as Shi put it, did not appreciate being transformed into walking servants. The woman just looked at the Digimon with an expression of pure amazement. "Astounding! Are they aliens? Artificial intelligence?"
"We're a mix o' both," Shoutmon said before he came out of Adrian's V-Pet, assuming the situation was safe to do so. "Howdy there! Name's Shoutmon, at your service! And basically yeah, we don't really wanna become mindless brain puppets that just exist to serve your every will."
""I-I knew something was up with the whole project, but this..." the woman said, looking back and forth at all the Digimon and the humans, her mind trying to comprehend everything that she had learned. She turned to Stacy after she made her statement. "N-No, you're right... this isn't right... I don't have a reason to not believe you." Zack's threats didn't exactly change her stance on that, other than making her feel even worse about herself.
"You still have a chance to make it all better," Shoutmon said with a kinder tone. "Just help us stop him. Any way you can. You'd be saving millions of lives that way."
The woman paused for a bit as she considered her response. She went back to her desk and opened up her drawer, pulling out what appeared to be an ID card -- her own ID card. Her photo was printed on the card, as well as her name: Erika Carter.
"My ID card has clearing to be in Zaan's office on the top floor," Erika said to the group, "but not his personal computer. You'll have to find your own way to access it. Make sure no one sees you going up there, and I'll keep an eye out for Zaan. I won't ask any more questions, and I'll forget ever meeting you all after today. Just do what you all have to."

Well that all seemed to work out for the best, the truth will set you free or something along those lines. To be frank instead of Shi though for a moment he didn't fully trust this lady, though Zack had already made his way forward with the threats and what not so Shi didn't feel like piling on that, he didn't look too threatening anyway even if he tried. "We don't know much about what's going on, least I don't. But regardless something like what's happening to the helpers now can't stand. Glad you seem to understand." Shi had his usual lovely tone of voice that didn't really have anything behind it, good or bad. Probably poor for this situation but hey, screw it.
"Great, cause we probably don't have any time for questions. Oh wait one more for the road. Where are the helpers being kept exactly? Even if you don't know a general idea could help us out greatly." Might as well squeeze as much information out of this encounter as he can before he goes.

Erika seemed fascinated by the digimon in the group as a whole and who could blame her since digimon weren't exactly common knowledge despite many likely visiting the Human World on a regular basis. Shoutmon then introduced himself to the woman after explaining that digimon were a mix of aliens and artificial intelligence which was quite on the nose given that digimon came from another world despite the worlds being closely connected to each other.
"Shoutmon has a point. We are creatures not from this world though our home world is a dimension directly connected to this one so aliens as humans understand it is technically correct. That and we are made of digital data as well hence being artificial intelligence. Oh and I am called Sarumon." Sarumon said after Shoutmon finished his explanation. Sure the name of the demon spider monkey digimon was quite on the nose as Saru was Japanese for monkey.
When Erika offered the group the ID Sarumon fluttered up to the woman and accepted it before she said "Don't worry. We plan on not attracting too much attention since innocent living beings' freedom is at stake. It would do them or us any good if we are captured."
When Shi asked about where the helpers are being kept, Sarumon agreed this would be useful knowledge but the concept of hacking Zaan's computer was still rolling around in her mind. Turning to the rest of the group at large and said "Speaking of this guy Zaan's computer, do any of you have experience with hacking into computers cause I'm lost on this matter. Unless he has hidden his passcode somewhere I don't know what to do there."

"They're alive, Doctor. Isn't that enough?" Zack said, not trying to put a damper on the doctor's curiosity, at least, not intentionally. He was just a man who saw things in a very moral lens. it didn't matter if the digimon were aliens or artificial intelligence, it only mattered that they were alive. Able to laugh, to cry, to love in the same way as any other living thing.
"Dad..." Marigold said, reaching out and placing her leg on his sleeve, fully showing what Zack meant when he said he had a daughter too. "...I'm scared too." She said, Zack visibly flinching as if he'd just been stabbed with an ice pick. Right through all of his anger and posturing of the night, no one was as good at cutting through every inch of his persona as Marigold. "We're all scared. I'm sure she's scared too. We've got to protect her, same as we'd protect everyone else." She said, reminding him of what he was doing in the kinds of words he would have used in her place. Arch, broad, more than a tad cheesy.
"She's right. Ms. Carter, you don't need to worry. We're going to make all of this right by the time the sun comes up on a new day. Thank you for helping us, you're doing the right thing." He said, a small amount of his normal energy beginning to fill him again, that grinning warmth that made him both insufferable but quintessentially Zack. He tilted his head to one side, rolling his shoulders and getting some of that pep back in his step. "As for accessing the computer, that is going to be a challenge. I'm more the in the streets, punching thugs kind of vigilante, not exactly a black hat hacktivist, you know what I mean?" He said, making Marigold deflate with a relieved chuckle as he went back to making bad jokes, mostly at his own expense.

"Another world connected to our own..." Erika repeated after Stacy, or rather Sarumon, had given her two cents on the whole thing. Before the entire idea of an alternate world sounded crazy to her, but how could she not believe it was true after seeing this digital being before her very eyes?
"It's kind of insane, isn't it?" Adrian asked, a slight smile on his face. "But it's a good kind of insane. An insane we're working hard to protect. Not just for them, but for us as well."
"Yeah... I understand," Erika said with a slightly hesitant nod as she handed her ID card to Sarumon. Zack assured her that the group was going to make this right, thanking her for doing the right thing. "Just make sure no one catches you. If they do, hide that ID card, make sure they don't see it." Right as Erika was about to leave, Shi asked where the Helpers were being kept. "They're 'holograms,' so we store their data in a special server room. They won't listen to you if you tried helping them before you cured them though." And that was all Erika said before she left.
"Come on, we need to get up to that Zaan guy's office," Shoutmon reminded the others. And unless anyone had any other ordeals they wanted to solve first, going to the top floor was now the group's main objective.
As they walked, Stacy and Zack both had concerns about exactly how they would get access to Zaan's computer. "Okay yeah, that's a good point... I don't think guessing his password would help things much."
"Hmmm... oh, wait! I just remembered!" Shoutmon said as he pulled a fancy looking USB flash drive from his headphones. "I managed to talk Zero into giving me this before we left! It's a flash drive that'll basically give us the password to a computer and help us get in!"
"And... why exactly didn't we use it downstairs?" Adrian asked in a slightly annoyed tone.
"Zero said it was one use only, plus there were employee guys right there, we didn't need this yet."
"...okay, that's a fair point actually. Come on, let's go."
Thankfully the elevator would be done doing its rounds thanks to that kid by this point, so the group only had five floors up to go. Adrian would get in first, pressing the 60th floor button once everyone was inside. Now all they had to do was wait... maybe a bit of conversation would be in order during this downtime?

Getting used to the insanity of another world, Shi had been basically numb to the idea ever since the first day he found Yuudai and Yasuo so seeing someone go through that was a bit odd to say the least, though the teenager didn't really have much to say on the situation, it was happening and that's all there was too it. Though the part of the digimon not listening to them did peak his interested he eventually just shrugged. "We don't really need them to listen to use, worst case scenario we knock them out and drag them outta here." It sounded a tad bit cruel, but they'd have a much easier time curing them outside of this place.
"Though that's only if we can't help them out here, I don't like the idea of hurting them though." Yasuo decided to clarify knowing that Shi's tone of voice and what he just said could probably get taken the wrong way.
"Course I don't like the idea but we gotta do what we gotta do, a little head trauma is more than worth it considering the alternative." that being actual slavery to a whole buncha humans who don't know what digimon are.
"I am not even going to pretend I have any idea at all on what that thing is." Was all Yuudai had to say about the USB thing, Flash Drive? Whatever it was it scared and confused the Agumon so he decided to leave that to them.
Shi thought for a few moments after the scientist left before his eyes widened a bit as he realized. "She uhh, didn't tell us where the special room was did she." Well too late now considering she just walked off, eh the laptop or computer or whatever they were gonna go get probably could help, probably.

"Make sure no one sees us, huh? Yeah I think we can manage that." Sarumon said a grin appearing on her face as things were starting to look better in the group's favor. Her grin also carried a faint hint of mischief. It was getting more likely that Zaan might end up on the receiving end of the mischievous impulses that raced through the demon's mind. Maybe it was for the best her mischief was far from malicious.
Then Shoutmon brought out a flash drive saying it was from Zero and it was basically a one use tool to bypass a password to a computer. "If this mission to save the digimon here works out I'll thank that rascal in person. He maybe tough to work with at times but he is good at what he does." Sarumon said as she followed right behind Adrian and Shoutmon while listening to the discussion between Shi, Yasuo, and Yuudai. She agreed with not wanting to use more force on the digimon than absolutely necessary as they had no control over their actions in their current state. The idea of digimon being treated this way still sickened her to the core of her being but so far she had controlled herself well.
Now in the elevator waiting for the others a holy aura began to surround her body and, like every other time, she was unaware she was faintly glowing but felt a pleasant warmth pulse throughout her body before it stopped and the glowing aura faded at the same time. That was odd to her indeed. Maybe she was just imagining that she felt warmer if only for that brief moment.

"I should make a black variant for my costume." Zack said idly with the warning to not get caught, Marigold instantly rolling her eyes at that. Of COURSE that's where her father's head would be at when given a grave warning, it's as if warnings in general just slid off of him before he went right on to do whatever ridiculous act of heroism was already on his mind.
"I'm sure Weston would across that a bump on the head is better than waking up to the fact that your body has been used to hurt someone else." She said, speaking about the Wisemon acquaintance of the group who had gotten the most up close and personal look and feel for what being under this variety of control felt like and how guilty it made someone feel when they finally came up for air.
"I don't think finding the secret lair is going to be all that hard. It's only one floor after all and there's more than a half dozen of us. Even if there's a fall wall or something just knocking on the walls until we hear something hollow won't take that long even if we have to literally brute force the solution. Human world materials and all that any one of the digimon could crash right through whatever door they're trying to hide their dirty laundry behind." He said, reminding the group of the power profiles that they were working with, one of those little talents that he had because of his mental prowess with all things superhero related. He already knew there was nothing in this building that would stand up to some hard digital smashing.

Adrian and Shoutmon couldn't help but just kind of stare at Shi when he suggested knocking out the infected Digimon and dragging them out to save them. "Shi... have you seen how big and heavy Digimon can get?" Adrian asked. "They're likely not going to all be rookie levels, and even if they all were there'd still be a lot of them. And I'm not too keen on digivolving Shoutmon to Ultimate level inside of a building in Tokyo."
"Pretty sure I'd crash through the roof if that happened," Shoutmon added. Was dragging the Digimon out, even through a Digiport, going to be the best idea? After she left, Shi mentioned that Erika didn't exactly tell them where the special server room was. It was definitely a minor mistake on her part, and not on the author's part at all, nope nope. "She said it was a server room, so we just gotta find where those are and look through them, right?"
In response to the USB drive Shoutmon had, Yuudai brought up that he wasn't even gonna pretend to understand what it was Shoutmon sighed. "I plug it into a thing on the computer, and it lets us use the computer without needing to know a password." Stacy even mentioned how she'd have to thank Zero in person when this was all over. "We'd be screwed without him, that's for sure."And with all of that out of the way, the group would progress onwards. The stairs were the only option, as the elevator was still making its rounds thanks to that kid. It was only five flights this time at least, right to the top floor of the building... to Niku Zaan's office. It was quite easy to find, as it was the only door on the top floor anyways, so once Stacy used the key card Erika gave her, they had access to his office. "Fancy..." Adrian muttered as he looked around. It was definitely an office, though very modern and spacious. There was a grey desk with a computer right next to the huge window that gave a great view of the city. "Alright, we have the flash drive, let's see if there's anything on here."
Shoutmon would then plug in the flash drive into the USB port of the computer, which worked like a charm, bypassing passwords, firewalls and everything and allowing access for anyone there. Adrian sat down and began looking through some of the files, looking for anything related to the Helpers. Finally, he seemed to have found something, a folder called... Helpers Project"Yes, here it is," Adrian cheered as he clicked it open. Immediately, something caught his interest. It was another folder inside full of video files, simply titled "Video Logs." He clicked on it, before clicking on the earliest video available.
"My name is Niku Zaan," an adult man with dark black hair was speaking into the camera, "and I am not of this universe. In my world, everything was similar to this one, only Digimon were more well known to the public. Before suddenly, they attacked us without warning. The government was powerless against these living weapons. My son was a Tamer, and he... he... I don't know what happened for me to end up here. I don't know if this is an alternate timeline or what, but I will make sure my new home doesn't fall under the same fate as before. That's why I replaced this world's version of myself and am now using Z-Tec to develop a weapon against these Digimon, cataloging my findings with these video logs."
Video Two... "I believe we have made a breakthrough! We may have found a way to have Digimon permanently in our control! We're still in the test phase, but we believe that a harmless virus could be the key. We have to do more testing just to be sure we can create a virus that doesn't negatively affect its host at all."
Video Three... "We have just accomplished the impossible... we fused a human virus and a computer virus together! The ultimate result is right here..." The camera moves over to a Patamon who looks eerily blank inside. "This Digimon is infected with what we call the Human-Digimon Link virus, or HDL for short. It's a helpful virus that allows a human to connect its mind to the body of a Digimon, controlling it like they would their own body. It's genius, I tell you! Tomorrow, we're sending a small army to the Digital World with these things on our side... we'll be unstoppable!"
Video Four... "The mission was ultimately a failure. We were able to annihilate a small village, but then one of the Digimon... morphed. It became this red humanoid dragon with golden armor... we were barely able to escape alive. The Digimon didn't know it, but I managed to inject it with a tracking malware virus, just in case. Maybe he'll end up being useful for me in the end. In the meantime, much work is going to have to be done now that we have a change in plans."
Video Five... "The airship we provided with RedMagnamon, Red-012, has gone offline. We managed to salvage some of the video footage and made quite a shocking discovery... a group of Tamers had somehow made their way onboard the ship and managed to defeat RedMagnamon and his crew. I should've figured... those Tamers will ruin everything. They just don't understand how in danger all of us are! With this organization DATS entering the scene, it'll give us enough time to work on our plan behind the scenes while they deal with them. Hiding in plain sight."
Video Six... "Everything is finally coming to fruition. We won't just annihilate the threat to our world, but we'll have the Digimon help better our world too, effectively killing two birds with one stone. We have a list of Tamers in Shibuya with us, as well as the virus in spades, enough to infect the entire Digital World at once. It'll be so quick, no one will see it coming! But that's not all; we're marketing them as Helpers, holographic digital servants created to serve every whim of those they're bonded to. Finally, my goal is so close to being fulfilled... the world will be safe from those digital menaces, without fear of being invaded, and humanity will be on top once again. The Tamers will surely find out about this, but I'm confident our sheer numbers will be enough to defeat them if need be."
The one in the most shock thanks to the video was none other than Shoutmon, particularly what was said in the fourth video. He started at the screen in utter disarray, a look of trauma present on his face. And Adrian knew exactly why Shoutmon was feeling this way. "Shoutmon, try to calm down now..."
"It was him... it was all him," Shoutmon said in a hoarse voice, "he was the one who attacked Frontier Village... and killed Lia... he's the one responsible for ruining Omni's life!!"

To Adrian and Shoutmons stares Shi simply raised his digivice and shook it a bit. "Digi-ports exist, while it might take some time to drag them all through it's an option. As I said this is worst case scenario. Not my plan A." Besides if they dealt enough damage the digimon would most likely revert due to being out of energy back into rookie or In-training, but Shi decided to withhold that part since the two of them seemed to think he was just being stupid or something in dragging out a buncha ultimate level digimon.
"Weston..." Shi repeated after hearing Marigold, that was that Wisemon? Did he get involved in this or something. "I suppose you're right Zack, though hopefully we won't have to go searching around, hopefully whatever the data on this thing has includes a map or something." Shi noticed the twins being weirdly quiet though, standing next to each other and talking about something, maybe they were worried on hearing Westons name but didn't want to show it. Well there was enough time to deal with that later.
Now inside a very fancy office building Shi walked around a bit while Adrian did his thing with the computer, looking out the window with his hands in his pockets staring down at the city below. Eventually though he heard the audio start up and decided to listen in alongside Yuudai and Yasuo.
The results were a bit, odd to say the least. Talking about alternate worlds and controlling digimon, alongside with some information that Shi had absolutely no context for but considering the reaction Shoutmon had it wasn't that good. "Alternate worlds, time travel, different universes. Can I ever catch an effing break." Shi sighed as he turned around to look at the computer. It was pretty clear this wasn't his first time dealing with a world shattering event, though that happened with digimon in the first place.
"I don't know what this Omni is but is this guy just insane or something? He's going to end up MAKING digimon attack if he does something like this! If anyone's bringing a war it's going to be him." While he did sympathize with being unjustly attacked that doesn't give an excuse to do the exact same thing to another world.
"They seem to be trying to stop a war before it can start, A war that might not ever come about in this world, at least not until he starts it." There was some logic, but two wrongs don't make a right, that was just basic principles right there.
"My condolences on what happened to this Omni and Lia but the best solution is to stop this now before anyone else can get hurt, Any information on that virus?" The list of tamers thing worried him as well, obviously he's going to target them first so we wouldn't be able to stop them.

Since the elevator was still down for the count Sarumon knew that the stairs were the group's only bet. Oh well at least they only had five flights to scale which would be no biggie. Upon finding the office Sarumon used the keycard so that the group could enter. While the office itself had a great view of the city Sarumon had little interest in what was going on outside as she followed Shoutmon over to the computer as he inserted the USB drive. Now that the security was bypassed Adrian sat down and began looking through the files spotting a folder called Helper's Project. The very title of the folder alone made the demon monkey visibly bristle.
Then Adrian began playing the video logs and as she watched the first one a realization hit her as she began shaking with rage. "Oh my God." she began now looking somewhat ill as she then said "This Zaan guy. He has the same back story as the Grandmaster down to every detail." As the videos played Sarumon began to become more angry as her eyes were glowing with rage but somehow, though how she didn't know, she was still rational. Yet curiously her glowing red eyes were accompanied by a solid golden glow as she was giving off holy power which if anyone noticed might be puzzled to see it radiating of a demon as if the powers of holy and darkness were meant to function in her current body.
"I'm with Shoutmon on this. That guy has to be stopped or other innocent people will suffer and we have to cure the victims of this virus as well." Sarumon said now sounding a bit calmer but still was somewhat angry.

Zack was frozen, his masked face looking down at the computer screen as the virus played. The video reflected in the black and purple flecked surface of his visor. It was chilling to see the normally happy superhero drained of all of his life, whatever peace of mind that Marigold had given him only a few moments before was gone now. He didn't speak, the only sound coming from him was the creaking of his gloves as he balled them up into shivering fists. His intentions were clear without a single word. His suspicions had been proved true, this mad bastard was the same man who had stolen the life of a friend and comrade. He was going to pay for that and if Zack had been in his right mind in that moment it would have terrified him how far his mind was willing to carry the idea in that moment of time.
Marigold was scared too, though not from looking at the videos. She was looking up at her father and seeing a man she didn't recognize. All of his grand heroic ambitions and aspirations of helping the world become a better place were gone, ground down to a single, razor sharp and lethal point: this villain needed to be STOPPED.
"Insane isn't the word. It absolves him of guilt. he knows exactly what he's doing. he infected captive Digimon with this virus. Trapped them in cages and listened to them scream like some kind of twisted Dr. Frankenstein. And his only intention is to do it again to every single digimon he can find. And every human here is on that same blacklist. He thinks he's got us backed into a corner...I aim to show him he's wrong." Zack said, punching the palm of his opposite hand, the harsh SNAP of one hand colliding with the other one enough to make even marigold flinch.
