Lilly laughed before she said "Yeah I suppose with inherited data digimon can be quite tricky to predict. We can also inherit attacks from parents too. Apparently my oldest brother, LJ, picked up some attacks from both our parents though his current champion form seems to have more in common with our Leomon father minus the super strength. The only thing he has in common with our Wizardmon father is the ability to channel magic. Seeing as LJ and I are digimon known for having a warrior heritage a Leomon X like LJ and a Guilmon like me having magic might seem odd to some."
Procopius' statement regarding getting all the chicks made Lilly raise her paw to try to help hold back a snicker but a small snort of amusement slipped out still before she lowered her arm and said "Speaking of which, Procopius, have you given any thought to the holosuit you want? Mine was given to me shortly after I digivolved."
"Oh come on, Ollie. You might be more cool than you give yourself credit for. Being smart may not be appreciated by the ones who bully you but it is bound to come in handy later. Surely at least some of your teachers like how hard you work." Lilly said trying to help Ollie out before Procopius made an effort to help him out as well. Procopius definitely was a good friend.

"Something with lots of tattoos and some piercings. Tall probably, just a really cool, badass looking dude that nobody wants to mess with." Procopius said, puffing out his chest as much as that meant anything given his hard plastic body didn't shift very well with small motions like that.
"So basically you want to be what a forty year tv executive thinks 14 year olds think cool looks like." Ollie said, Procopius stumbling in place and grumbling up at his partner as Ollie made a note about the presence of "magic" "Now, call me a rationalist but what is the distinction of magic in a world made of data? Wouldn't "magic" just be the ability to manipulate that code around you?" Ollie said, making a note of his questions in his notebooks, giving himself avenues to look down for the sake of studying the phenomena.
"If it was just the ability to manipulate the digital world's data then it wouldn't work in the human world, which it very obviously does." Procopius said, throwing out his own little intellectual musing which seemed to catch Ollie off guard. he looked down at Procopius, smiling softly as he struck at least two of his questions from the record, proud of his partner for having thought of a factor and explanation that even Ollie hadn't considered, it was a good measurement of the Black ToyAgumon's growth as a thinker so far.

An amused smile spread across Lilly's face as Procopius described what he wanted his holosuit to look like before Ollie's next words made her start laughing. When she calmed down she said "While either some tattoos or piercings would be cool. So would being rather tall and intimidating but, I agree with Ollie, all of that together is a little much."
"I get being a rationalist as I myself do my best to lean towards that way of thinking." Lilly said while she tried how to best explain things to the curious teen as he had brought up a good question. Oh well might as well just use what ever makes most sense to her. "All digimon abilities of various kinds involve data manipulation of some kind or another from what I've noticed in my short life but, in the Digital World, magic typically is much like the magic you humans see on tv, movies, or read about in books. For digimon such power is real. The Digital World seems like a weird hodgepodge of logic but one eventually gets used to it."

"So it's more the RECOGNITION of it as magic than it is some kind of hard and fast definition of what is or isn't magic. Well that's alright, lots of definitions in the human world come down to collective agreement too." Ollie said, not wanting to tack on the fact that basically EVERY definition only came down to collective agreement in the first place, he didn't want to end up getting too metaphysical lest he inspire that one look from Procopius that made it looked like all the gears in his brain had stopped.
"Well forget you guys anyway, I'm gonna look SO cool." Procopius said, huffing, unable to cross his arms without elbows he just turned his body to playfully turn his head away from his conversation partner, though the slight grin on his face and the sparkle in his eyes when he opened them back up made it clear that he was just as much in on the joke as anybody else.
"We can get you whatever holosuit you want, I just reserve the right to make fun of you for it." Ollie said, Procopius being the only person that he could really drop his guard around and start thinking and acting like a boy his age.
"I'd be offended if you didn't." Procopius said, letting another sparkle of his eyes be directed up at Ollie, both of them sharing a secret brotherly smile.

Lilly shrugged at Ollie's statement before scratching the back of her head briefly before she said "I suppose so but, then again, what do I know? I was born in a world that regularly tosses its own logic out the window at times so magic isn't that odd a concept to grasp."
"Calm down, Procopius, I was just messing with you. I guess I am a lot like my Wizardmon parent when it comes to fashion sense as his holosuit is one of a well dressed man." Lilly said before she then said "To say seeing both my parents in their holosuits are quite a sight is an understatement."
Lilly smiled at the interaction between Ollie and Procopius as she noticed how Ollie's playful side was showing more. It was as if the earlier awkwardness she had inadvertently caused had evaporated into thin air and it felt great. "Hey, Ollie, I'm curious but you don't have to answer if you don't want to. I noticed you seem pretty small for a teenager so I was wondering if it was genetic. I mean I have a parent and grandparent that are short so for all I know I might not end up a giant digimon despite currently being tall by rookie standards. Most rookies rarely get much taller than Procopius."

"I...have no information to answer that with." Ollie answered honestly, Procopius physically flinching at the turn in the conversation. It always came back to that one injustice, that one terrible, unfair factor that had defined so much of Ollie's young life. "I've never met my parents. I don't even know who they are or if they're still alive. They could have been short like me or giants for all I know." Ollie said, a lot of the energy and comfort he had built up over the course of the conversation vanished into thin air in only a moment, like this topic was the one impossible to cover hole in his armor of academic distance.
"Hey Ollie, come on, you know it's not good for you to dwell." Procopius said but Lilly could see it, the anger in his eyes. The anger that said "if I ever find those bastards I'm going to rip them limb from limb". Right now it wasn't about that though, right now it was about supporting his partner.
"Yea it's just...yea." Ollie said and for the first time he truly did look small, not just in height but in how fragile and helpless he seemed in only that moment, like all of the wind had been stolen from his sails and left crestfallen and empty.

Lilly winced as she felt the emotions from both Ollie and Procopius' emotions at her innocent question. She placed one of her paws on her chest in an attempt to calm herself as she said "I...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you Ollie. I was just curious. If I knew you never knew your parents I would never of asked such a thing." Tears began to well up in the young empath's eyes as she began to quietly cry. However, as if barely aware of the tears, Lilly made her way over to Ollie before placing a paw on his back before she looked at Procopius and said "Judging by the anger you are feeling Ollie's parents must of done something to warrant it. Am I right? It's okay if neither of you want to tell me anything if it makes you guys uncomfortable. I just don't like causing emotional pain to others. Man I screwed up big time."
Lilly didn't know how to help them so she stood there and gently rubbed the teens back. Though she considered hugging Ollie she didn't do so as not everyone enjoyed close contact and she had already made enough of a mess of things.

"They didn't do anything to me personally. I've never met the bastards." Procopius said as Lilly got to the heart of the issue, the bubbling rage that the plastic dinosaur monster got to feeling whenever he thought about Ollie's parents. "But I don't need to. They left a kid like Ollie in the lurch. I never knew my parents either but at least I had the other folks on my block to look after me and a roughneck like me isn't worth half of what a thinker like Ollie's worth." Procopius said, a snarl on his breath. He had made promises to himself about what he would do if he ever did come across Ollie's birth parents.
"Now that's not true!" Ollie said, coming out of his stupor at Procopius' self deprecation, reaching back and placing his hand on Lilly's shoulder, smiling with a slight embarrassment. He knew the empath was able to feel everything he was feeling in that moment but he couldn't exactly stop himself from the emotions that were coming naturally to him. "You're worth a hell of a lot, Procopius. You're certainly worth a lot to me." Ollie said, forgetting about his own problems for just the moment as he batted away at his partner's own feelings of inadequacy.

Lilly's eyes widened as she caught on to what Procopius was saying and she looked angry herself. This may or may not of had to do with the block dinosaur's rage but she somehow managed to compose herself and took a deep breath through her nose before she said "You mean they abandoned him? That's terrible. I know this happens in the Digital World too but it shouldn't need to when there are responsible avenues even if one can't take care of a child. Hard to believe someone as sweet as Ollie came from people like that. Obviously he had at least some good influences in his early life to become the person he is now."
Procopius' next words about himself weren't only noticed by Ollie but Lilly as she looked at the other dinosaur before she said "I agree with Ollie. Not only do you appear to be a good friend for Ollie but you have are also intelligent albeit a different kind than Ollie here. You are more of the street smart type so you two balance each other out."

"Aw shucks, kid. You're gonna make me blush. You're just trying to ruin my image." Procopius said, chuckling and indeed there was a little sparkling flush of red along the cheeks of the blocky dinosaur. How blushing worked in a creature that didn't seem to have blood was a light going off in Ollie's head that he would save for later.
"I'm your partner. It's kind of my job to ruin your image when I tag along." he said, placing his hand on top of the studded head of his plastic pal, both of them laughing as Procopius silently allowed himself to relax. He was getting to know the ways to get Ollie's mind off of self depressing tracks before he got too far along and ended up in a very unhealthy mood for too long.
"he's not wrong. You should have seen him the first time I took him to an old bad guy bar." Procopius said, looking up at Lilly and rolling his eyes. it was hard to describe how out of place someone as baby faced as Ollie seemed in a venue full to bursting with roughnecks and criminals.

The shift to non negative emotions made Lilly smile as she reached up to wipe the tears she just realized where flowing from her eyes while Procopius began blushing. Sure it may seem odd to humans that any ToyAgumon variant could blush never mind eat but Lilly knew there were stranger things than what appeared to be a machine blushing in the Digital World. Heck the blushing could still be explained from the technical side of things rather than the organic given there was at least some wobbly sense of logic in the Digital World.
Then the image of Ollie with his short stature and baby face in a place with roughnecks and criminals came to Lilly's mind and she snickered. Yes without Procopius there to keep the kid from being shredded the image would of been far more worrying than frightening. "Given how it seems Ollie isn't the best in social settings it must have been both terrifying and awkward for him. That and those tough digimon must of been so confused to see him come into the establishment. Even more so if they knew you, Procopius."

"You'd think so wouldn't you? But he wasn't scared, not even a little. he just pulled out his notes and started scribbling away. The card games people were playing, the drinks they were drinking. All of it went right down in the book without a second thought." Procopius said. He had been kind of shocked in the moment that it was the sort of thing that Ollie wanted to record for posterity given the fact that from his perspective it was just an old dive bar full of not exactly the nicest people.
"You most often find the truest nature of a culture by the things that people do in the everyday. Statues, paintings, big thick history books curated and collected by scholars is all well and good. But that's people of the present TRYING to look good to the people of the future. If you want the real, meat and bone understanding of a moment in time, look at its dive bars and, indeed, it's spur of the moment entertainment." Ollie said, motioning with his head toward Lilly. She would have her own amount of understanding when it came to pop culture, given that she was a part of it by choice and profession.

Lilly looked over at Ollie in surprise when she learned that the teen strangely wasn't fazed in the slightest by the location and was even taking notes. "Huh. I would of thought he would at least be a bit nervous but I guess his natural curiosity just took over the moment he entered. He might actually get along with my parents. Both of them have a strong sense of adventure and curiosity."
Lilly nodded in understanding at Ollie's words regarding history and culture before she said "Fair enough. I always wondered why history books couldn't of been handled from an entirely non biased standpoint and just give it to us completely straight without caring what future generations would think about them as people. Surely with such an approach it would be more beneficial to everyone as a whole." Then regarding understanding people of the current time going into places like dive bars could be beneficial. Then she grinned and said "Just as much can be learned in a crowded mall during the holiday season here in the Human World. I was only a baby during that time but learned a lot amidst the many different emotions floating through the building within all the general chaos of it all."

"History books can't be unbiased because nothing human beings do in general is totally unbiased. We're all thinking animals who bring our experiences, memories and preconceptions into the things we do. Less than helpful when it comes to parsing the reality of a five hundred year old historical account but on the other hand if each human being wasn't different on some internal level then you'd end up with eight billion samey, objective observers and THAT sounds like a nightmare." Ollie said, answering Lilly's questions about objectivity. A lot of people wondered about why people couldn't just tell the "truth" of the matter in front of them, not realizing that it was more...complex than that. "Scholars and intellectuals hold objectivity as a...monk-like ideal. A mental enlightenment that anyone being honest with themselves know doesn't ACTUALLY exist." He said, shrugging. He too tried to be "objective" to the best of his ability but he was far too humble to not realize that the words he wrote could only be informed by the person writing them.
"We've all been different places and seen different things in life. Means that no two people see the same thing in exactly the same way. That's part of why writing it all down is even important. If people could communicate objective truth than we'd just pass it down by generations without the need to keep it on paper." Procopius said, sounding a good deal like Ollie in that moment, he was getting in the habit of mimicking his partner when he wanted to sound smart.

"You make a good point, Ollie. This is just another way digimon are like humans. When it comes to our histories we also bring our experiences, memories, and preconceptions along for the ride sometimes living through many historical events. A digimon like my Grandpa Theron has likely had many many years of such experiences as he seems ancient. How ancient is not even known to any other member of the family. I don't think he is ashamed to admit his age but he just likes being mysterious about it." Lilly said before she continued "And I agree with you that everyone being the same sounds like nightmare. Not only that a boring one. Our differences is what makes things interesting after all."
"Yes writing it down is important so future generations can benefit from the knowledge. You guys working on documenting everything sounds exciting to me. Probably because I am every bit as curious as my parents since that seems to be a common trait from myself and my siblings. Even Kshin despite him being adopted. His parents were explorers."
