"Yea, we had a run in with Kshin and a friend of his. No big deal, a dinosaur ate the digiegg they were after, I literally clawed it out from inbetween its teeth and I still smell like it's morning breath sometimes. Your siblings are interesting people." Procopius said, half of his tone filled with a gruff sarcasm as he remembered the crazy stunt he had pulled in order to get the egg out from the glinting ivory maw of the dinosaur digimon.
"I never considered myself the Indiana Jones type, the adventurous archaeologist who got himself in more trouble than he spent pouring over manuscripts in some forgotten library. But it seems like the Digital World has more...treacherous ways of keeping its knowledge to itself and some adventurous spirit is required in order to get to the really juicy bits." Ollie said in agreement with Procopius. The life he had envisioned for himself was much more that of a real life scholar, lots of pouring over endless poorly stored and catalogued documents trying to find the nugget of information he was after. Seemed like the Digital World was trying to keep him more on his toes.

Lilly scrunched her face at the thought of Procopius retrieving a digimental from a dinosaur digimon's jaws. Since digimentals and digieggs were about as big as the eggs of a Human World ostrich then the digimon in question had to be fairly big as well. There was no way such a thing would fit in the jaws of most rookies that's for sure. "Yuck. I'd hate to know how it got in the big dino's mouth if you guys had to pry it out. I hope such a problem doesn't arise when and if I find a digimental." Lilly said after the image of such a thing faded from her mind. "I'm sure Kshin and Grace appreciated your help none the less."
"Yes the Digital World has some interesting ways of protecting its secrets. Reminds me of when LJ told me about how he acquired his first digimental. He entered some ruins out of curiosity and, after dodging more traps than he felt was necessary, found the digimental. I'm amazed he pulled something off as crazy as that in his rookie form." Lilly said with a shake of her head. Sure she had never seen her oldest brother's rookie form but if it was anything like she was told it was fascinating to her.

"I used to be a Tsumemon, basically just a big hand with an eyeball on top. I scuttled up his side before he could actually think about what that itch was that he was feeling, pried it out from between his jaws and then Ollie kept me from going splat when I hit the ground. So I suppose technically I did it in my In-Training form." Procopius said. There was no "technically" about it. He had climbed into the maw of a Digimon the size of an apartment building and pried something out of its teeth in a form and time in their lives when most digimon were beyond helpless.
"Real Lion and the Mouse moment there." Ollie said, leafing open to the page on the encounter that he had transferred into the book from the notes he had taken in the moment, cleaning them up and making them more concise and clear than the chicken scratch he put in his personal notes. "As soon as there wasn't a metal egg lodged against his gums he wanted off nice and gently. Seems he didn't actually want to hurt anybody but that sort of pain out of nowhere can put you in a real bad mood." Ollie smiled and laughed a little. He was glad that the tyrannosaur Digimon was able to be put back into the right state of mind by a gaggle of good Samaritans.

"I have to say I'm impressed, Procopius. Seeing as you are a dinosaur digimon like myself the form Tsumemon was not one I was expected to be your in training form. That and you used that form's natural climbing abilities to your best advantage to dislodge the egg while still not ending up a snack is also pretty incredible. My in training form of Gigimon is not what one would call good for climbing." Lilly said as she watched Ollie bring out a book and began to leaf through it before opening to a page that mentioned the encounter.
"Lion and the Mouse indeed." Lilly said with a smile as she took in the cleaned up notes and said "So Kshin's armor ultimate is Pipismon and the dinosaur you guys mentioned was MasterTyrannomon." Lilly finished reading the encounter before she said "To be honest I don't think I'd blame the big guy for being crabby. Looks like he was in a pained rage. At least you guys were able to help MasterTyrannomon out."

"I've just been thankful thus far that most digimon we've encountered have had the ability to be reasoned with. We've yet to encounter many large "ferals" as people call them though of course I'd love to be able to study some up close and see what sets them apart from what seems to be the regular, self aware digimon population." Ollie said, though now he was realizing that he had never actually heard the dinosaur speak, only that it seemed intelligent enough to disengage the fight when the pain between its teeth was soothed. That only raised further questions about the intelligence levels even of feral digimon.
"That's my partner. He's never met a question he didn't like. Especially questions that will inevitably lead to us getting cornered by something not especially nice somewhere along the line." Procopius said, half in exasperation half in admiration for his friend and partner's insatiable curiosity. It had already lead them right up to the edge of lethal danger a couple of times and yet Procopius was already too smart in Ollie's ways to try to get him off the track his mind was on once it had started. Some battles were just never meant to be won.

"Well even though feral digimon can be dangerous not all of them are but still I'm sure you will get your chance to observe some. Hopefully at a safe distance. Can't be taking too many chances, right?" Lilly said as she was beginning to admire Ollie for his desire to learn and experience as much of the Digital World as he could. "I have a feeling that feral digimon are more intelligent than some others think but, as dangerous as they can be, the most dangerous digimon tend to be the evil ones that aren't feral."
Lilly looked over at Procopius with a smile before she said "If there is one thing Ollie and various family members of mine share is a strong sense of natural curiosity. Just some of us are more prone to being studious than others. Such a thing isn't that uncommon for digimon with access to magic." Sure her brothers weren't exactly the studious type per say but they were still clever. LJ had more of an interest in the martial arts where most of his focus was on. As for Kshin, despite being adopted into the family his studies were more geared toward training to be a stage magician as well as learning karate from LJ.

"They seem more intelligent generally than most earth animals, though then again the measure of intelligence on earth animals is a very broad spectrum. There's just something about their level of...situational understanding that seems to stick with me." Ollie said, tapping the blunt end of a pen against the corner of his mouth, chewing on it idly as he made a note of study. "Most earth animals can't separate friend from foe save for on an instinctual basis. If something gets too close, they tend toward attacking especially if they're in pain or discomfort. I've never known an animal that can be so effectively "reasoned with" just by removing the source of discomfort. It makes a good fable but if you're touching a lion's paws for any reason, even to remove a thorn, and it doesn't already know who you are, the reaction is going to be rather unpleasant." Ollie said, unpacking the idea as he put it down, almost like the act of writing in itself was helping the consideration flower more than it ever could have only existing in his head.
"Like...forty percent of what he just said was meant for us." Procopius said sidebar to Lilly. One of the other little habits that he had gotten used to was his partner's habit of unpacking an idea out loud before he put it down on paper, letting it grow and mutate past his lips until the thought was much larger and more nuanced then its original version.

Lilly nodded as if in understanding before she said "Who knows? Perhaps Human World animals are far more intelligent and aware than you humans realize even though they struggle with separating friend from foe. Then again aren't humans animals too? I'm willing to bet even humans, like digimon, could fall to raw instinct especially if in a severe enough circumstances." Lilly had heard that humans could preform impressive physical feats with enough adrenaline flowing through them just as digimon could so maybe that was just another thing digimon had in common with the lifeforms of the Human World. "I find it interesting that digimon have also adapted many of the same body structures and survival strategies as Human World species. That sounds kinda like the theory of Convergent Evolution."
Lilly chuckled at Procopius' words before she said "It's no big deal to me. It seems it is common for intelligent people to speak their thoughts out loud."

"That...is an excellent point. Convergent evolution between digimon and human world animals that were exposed to similar environment stresses. Whamon evolving to reach the same energy economics of size when travelling vast distances through the ocean, Gomamon evolving heavy flippers and blubbery bodies to deal with the same water and cold temperatures as a human world seal. The only difference being that digimon are able to evolve into much more radical shapes over much shorter spans of time." Ollie said, marking things down in the margins of his notes about looking into the adaptations that more radical, less fully animalistic digimon have made to the environments around them.
"I mean what kind of creature is better suited to living and thriving in big, metallic, computerized ruins than an Andromon, for instance." Procopius said, providing an example to the point. Digimon were able to even more readily hyperspecialize with the entirety of human data at their disposal to mix, match and use as they might need.

Ollie's words made a lot of sense seeing as both the Human and Digital Worlds were always known to be connected to one another from the beginning. There were probably many extinct digimon forgotten by time as well seeing as time in the Digital World was not in sync with the Human World. "In both worlds it was realized that certain adaptations were far more practical than others and repeated through many species of many years. I may not know much about science in the Human World but I know at least some basics."
Lilly then turned to Procopius and said "You have a good point, Procopius. There are some crazy adaptations in the Digital World and Andromon is a fine example of such. Take my species for example. The species I am, which is called Guilmon, is known for being a warrior digimon with the possibilty of being a destructive threat as such is shown by the digital hazard symbol on my chest. However, unlike me, Guilmon are not known for magic. For all I know my evolutionary path may or may not be affected by the magical traits I inherited from Daddy."

"So many things to study. So many things to see." Ollie said, still scribbling at the margins of his notes. he had been keeping a bulleted list of things he wanted to study about and within the digital world and the list was never getting any smaller. For every one question that got answered it ended up leading to two or three more that required just as much research in order to satisfy and that wasn't even counting encounters like the one that they were having right now with Lilly where he hadn't even been planning to see anything much of note and now was loaded down with a bunch more questions anyway.
"He's like a kid in a candy store when he says that. Me? I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it." Procopius said, realistically imagining the bright eyed and more than a little oblivious Ollie wandering through the most dangerous parts of the Digital World with Procopius himself the only dividing line between him plunging to his death or moving on as if nothing had happened. "I can't say no to that face though, could you?" Procopius said, more privately, to Lilly as he watched Ollie scribble, his tongue sticking out of one side of his mouth as he worked.

Lilly watched as Ollie was scribbling away various notes being written in the margins of his book. Taking a quick glance at the notebook she noticed a list that seemed pretty big. Ollie's curiosity and wonder of the unknown was something fascinating to Lilly. At least it was clear he was content now that he was in his element. "Yes both worlds are filled with wonders but I can understand how the pull of the unknown could be more alluring. I still haven't seen much of the Digital World myself and I was born there to parents that rarely stayed in one place for long."
Lilly smiled at Procopius' statement about Ollie being like a kid in a candy store before the BlackToyAgumon spoke to Lilly more privately which caused Lilly to softly snicker as she also started watching Ollie scribble again. "I can see why you would have trouble saying no to him as he is fairly adorable as humans go."

"Knowledge is a never-ending fountain. For every one stream we track to its source, we only find ten more along the way to march along, and even if we do make it to the pool they spring from, we only find more springs from it to follow." Ollie said, putting it in more...poetically academic words about the way that one question always seemed to turn into a hundred more even though he never really meant it to. Every investigation lead to more things to investigate, every answer sprung forth new questions, every question split into smaller ones along the way.
"Cute. Yea, yea that's what people always say. He's insatiable. It's the only thing that really keep his positivity up. If I let him idle for too long he tends to...slump out back into his worst mindsets. So he keeps throwing wood on the fire and I try to remind him that he's got a life to lead that doesn't always involve chasing waterfalls." Procopius said. It was a horrible catch twenty two. To keep Ollie's trauma from resurfacing violently he had to be kept up on the chase, but keeping up on the chase was dragging him away from actually improving his real life.

"That is very true but it still doesn't make learning new things exciting. In those springs of knowledge sometimes one can find information that leads to even new hobbies or interests. I wonder how wise I might end up decades to one hundred years from now. I want to be like Grandpa and learn what I can while using my magic to bring happiness to others." Lilly said. Yes knowledge is power but it could also bring peace of mind and happiness to many as well.
So his quest for knowledge not only makes the adorable guy happy but it brings him peace of mind as well." Lilly said to Procopius now getting a worried look on his face before she said "With a friend like you I think he'll eventually be able to face his past traumas just as I'm sure he does a lot to help you out. Isn't that how tamers and their partners work?" She had a grasp of digimon bonds with humans but since none of her family member were paired with humans she didn't really have anything other than the occasional human and digimon to observe to obtain such knowledge. Such bonds were fascinating to read but now that she was a rookie she could better observe such bonds while traveling around.

"People find out intellectual stimulation where we can get it. it is a poor person indeed who had no need to use their mind either in life or in relaxation. Coasting through things can be nice sometimes but I can't imagine going through that all the time, I'd start to go nuts." Ollie said, agreeing with Lilly on the idea of looking through information leading to knew interests. His interest was already very firmly set in stone though, that sorting of information WAS what called to him, he didn't need to discover a new hobby in the words and knowledge because the words and knowledge WERE his hobby.
"Yea we'll...we'll get there eventually. I don't know when, I don't know how but eventually we'll get to the point where he can actually confront the things that make him unhappy. And when he does I'm going to be right there, backing him up to the hilt. That's what partners are for, isn't it?" Procopius said to Lilly. It wasn't like he had a much better idea of how to be partner to a tamer, no one had exactly handed him a manual when he had been tossed through the digital code directly into Ollie's lap. He was making the best of it, moment by moment, and he thought he was doing alright so far.
