"You sure that this is the place that the SOS signal came from, Adrian?"
Today started off as a normal day for Adrian, his partner Shoutmon, and Shoutmon's son Gem the Gammamon. They were simply just hanging out at their house in Rosewood after a decent day of school and training, when Adrian suddenly got an alert on his D-Terminal. Opening it up revealed an SOS message from a Palmon on Tamernet, one of a very... disturbing variety, as Adrian thought when he read it out loud.
PLEASE SOMEONE SAVE ME THE DIGIMON IN MY VILLAGE ARE 3f4rpui
The sudden cut off combined with the nonsense at the end was a clear red flag, one that Adrian couldn't ignore. If there was a Digimon in trouble out there, then they had to go out and help them. Thankfully it was fairly easy to tell where this Palmon was, since Tamernet had an option to showcase where in the Digital World a certain post was posted from, so all they had to do was follow that. And doing that led them to a village with... practically zero Digimon living here.
"This is the place that Tamernet said the post came from," Adrian said as he looked back at his D-Terminal to confirm this, just in case he really did mess up somehow. "But where is everyone?"
"This place is spooky," Gem said as he hugged onto his dad, who patted him on the head to calm him down.
"I still don't know if bringing Gem along was a good idea, Adrian," Shoutmon admitted to his partner. "You just got your leg all healed up almost, and you can barely walk, let alone run... the last thing we need is for Stone to come back. Skye was furious when I told her what happened."
"He's not gonna come back, Shoutmon, I promise. Besides, Gem needs the experience of going to other places in the Digital World if he's gonna make it out here on his own someday, isn't he?"
"Well, yeah... but look at him, he's clearly scared."
"N-No, I'm not, Dad! I can handle it!" Gem insisted as he let go of his dad, trying to put on a brave face.
"If you say so, my little man. Let's try and find that Palmon around here. She shouldn't be too far away from the village." Shoutmon was a bit worried, though. Just what happened to all the Digimon that should be here right now?

Unknown to Adrian, Shoutmon, and Gem, they weren't the only ones who had come to the ghost town in response to the Palmon's Tamernet message. Hana and her partners, along with Sakura and Kaito, had also come to this seemingly-abandoned town to investigate the situation. The fact that they had arrived in the middle of the night (DW time) only served to enhance the town's creepiness factor.
"This place is Spoooo~ky!" Rush said as he was cradled in Hana's arms, letting out a little giggle at the end. Despite the eerie nature of the town's seeming abandonment, the innocent Morphomon was completely unaware of the potential danger that might be lurking in the silence.
"Don't be rude, Rush." Hana gently chastised her adopted child. "Although you do have a point. Something about this place just doesn't feel right."
"Yeah, this place looks like it's gonna turn into Raccoon City or Silent Hill at any second." Sakura agreed, as she tried looking into a boarded-up window with a flashlight. The Lillymon hummed in disappointment when she couldn't see inside, turning around to find Hana and Data staring at her. "What?"
"How do you even know what Resident Evil and Silent Hill are?" Data asked in genuine confusion.
"Hey, I'm allowed to look stuff up on the internet!" Sakura replied defensively before something caught her eye in the distance. The flustered Lillymon quickly jumped at the chance to change the subject by pointing in the direction. "Look over there! We have company!"
Hana squinted as she tried to look at the figures in the distance, only for her eyes to widen as she realized who it was.
"Oh, it's Adrian!" Hana exclaimed before running off towards the other tamer's location, the teen's running making Rush bounce in glee in her grip. "Hi, Adrian!"
"Oh, for the love of- don't go running off on us, Hana!" Data called out as the rest of the group started running after her.

"Okay, definitely getting some survival horror video game vibes here," Adrian said as he looked around his immediate area. It was dark out, so he pulled out his phone and turned on his flashlight app just so he would be able to see more. "Shoutmon, Gem, try to stay close. I'd rather not have to deal with whatever might come jumping out of the shadows."
Suddenly the three of them heard a feminine voice coming from not too far away. Since they were so on edge from earlier, all three of them screamed a bit before Adrian pointed his flashlight at the source. It was none other than Hanako Hoshidate, a Tamer that they were acquainted with. With her were of course Rush and Data, both of whom looking very different than they had seen them last. Another familiar face was with them too; Sakura, a Lillymon they had met on a Trailmon that got derailed one time. But then there was the Tuwarmon... who on earth was he?
"Hana! Data! Rush!" Shoutmon exclaimed as he jogged over to them, with Gem following close behind. "Wait... Sakura? Is that you? I didn't know you knew these guys..." He then turned over to Kaito, putting his knuckles on his hips. "And I definitely don't remember meeting you. I'm Shoutmon, and this here is my partner Adrian and my son Gem."
"Hiiii!" Gem greeted as he happily waved. "Are you a ninja, sir? You look like a cool ninja!"
"I'm willing to bet that you guys aren't here in this creepy abandoned town just to sight-see," Adrian said after introductions were over with. "We got an SOS message that came from around here, a Palmon asking for help. I assume you guys are here because of that same reason?"
"This place sure is big for a village," Shoutmon said as he looked at all the houses around. "Gem, stay with Adrian, I'm gonna go have a look around for myself."
"Shoutmon, wait! The number one rule of horror movies is to never split up!"
"Does this look like a horror movie to you?" Shoutmon asked, giving Adrian his usual grin. "I'm a Digimon, Adrian, I'll be perfectly fine. Besides, we'll be here all night if we all search together." And with that, Shoutmon broke away from the group towards another part of the village.
Adrian just kinda watched his partner walk away for a few seconds with a worried expression on his face... something in his gut was telling him that this was all a horrible idea. But, he just took a deep breath and continued looking around, knowing that Shoutmon had his mind set on going alone for the time being. He hoped it wouldn't bite them all in the ass later.
"Hey, Hana, are you seeing this?" Adrian asked, shining his light on a couple of the houses. "Most if not all of these houses have borders on the doors and windows, like they were trying to keep something out. That's a bit weird, don't you think?" He then shone his light on another house, this time with words painted in big red letters:
ALL OF US ARE DEAD
"What in the actual hell...?"
Meanwhile, Shoutmon was elsewhere in the village, walking through as he conjured up a fastball in his right hand to provide a source of light. He was looking in at all the houses, corners and alleyways that he could, in search of something that could lead him to figuring out where that Palmon was. He walked past an alleyway between two houses on his right when he suddenly heard a hoarse voice coming from there:
"Get... get out of here..."
"...who's there? Are you the Palmon that sent the SOS?"
"I made a mistake... *cough cough cough* There is no helping us... leave, before they come for you, too!"
"There's no way I'm leaving you behind to die-" Shoutmon said as he began to walk towards the alleyway. He stopped dead in his tracks when he actually saw the Palmon, though. She looked weak and pale, covered in a bunch of red blood and holding onto her left arm, where she clearly had a severe injury of some kind, and she was breathing heavily. She looked as if she had pulled herself out of a huge crash. Shoutmon's eyes widened when he saw the state that the Palmon was in. "Jesmon Christ Mode, what happened to you?!"

"Yeah, I know these guys." Sakura told Shoutmon, gesturing to her friends. "The other guy's Kaito. And yes, he is an actual ninja."Kaito merely nodded in agreement at that short description, while Hana would set Rush down and go over to Gem and start going on about how adorable the Gammamon was. This ended up making Rush feel a bit jealous, so the Morphomon kept trying to squeeze between the two to steal Hana's attention and adoration. "I'm glad to see that your leg's all healed up." Sakura said as she walked over toward Adrian. When Shoutmon asked if this place looked like a horror movie, Sakura just stared at him and said, "Uh, yes. Yes, it does look like a horror- aaand he's gone. Well, that's on him, then."After the group searched the houses in the immediate area for a while, Hana and her friends went over to Adrian's location when the young man. When their eyes caught sight of the bloody message written on the wall, Hana visibly paled and looked like she might throw up. "Oooh, please tell me that doesn't mean what I think it means." "I knew it. 20 Bits says we're gonna see something outta Resident Evil before we leave." Sakura nonchalantly stated, before receiving a slap upside the head from Data. "Ow! What did I do?!""You're not helping." Data scolded. Not long after Shoutmon ran into the wounded Palmon that called everyone there, a loud noise could be heard in the distance, sounding like a cross between a roar and a scream. Hana's Digimon companions were immediately on edge, forming up in order to try and figure out where the noise came from.

"Ooooh, that's so cool!" Gem said when Sakura mentioned Kaito was a real ninja. "My best friend Kohaku is gonna be a ninja as well! Do you know him too, Mr. Kaito? He's a Falcomon!" "Gem, just because they're both ninjas doesn't mean that they know each other," Adrian said to the Gammamon, not knowing that Kaito and Kohaku did in fact know each other.
"Well, talk about a small world," Shoutmon said with a chuckle after Sakura explained that Hana, Data and Rush were her friends. "We've met Hana and her partners a few times before. It's gone... well." Shoutmon's tone of voice pretty much revealed this to be a half-truth at best. He turned to face Hana and her partners. "And we met Sakura on a Trailmon once before... and that also went well." Again, tone of voice. Then Hana went over to Gem, proceeding to gush about how adorable the little Gammamon was. Adrian and Shoutmon sweatdropped a bit while Gem gave a great big smile, loving the attention he was getting. "You think I'm adorable?" Gem laughed, rubbing the back of his head with his right paw. It wouldn't be long before Rush would try to butt in, however, in an attempt to steal Hana's adoration. "Hey!" Clearly Gem wasn't all too happy about that. Despite both Adrian and Sakura trying to talk him out of it, Shoutmon had gone off on his own anyways. Sakura seemed apathetic about what may or may not happen to Shoutmon afterwards, which Adrian took issue with. "Hey, I think he's being stupid too, but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna worry about him. I just hope whatever is going on here isn't all that serious..." Well, Adrian's hopes went right out the window when he saw what was written (in presumably blood) on the side of the building after a while of searching. Hana looked pale, Sakura made a quip about the scene going "all Resident Evil" on them, which Data promptly hit Sakura for. Gem, meanwhile, didn't seem to quite get it. "Why did someone write that on this house with red paint?" he asked like the innocent child he was. Then the scream happened. Adrian and Gem were both as on edge as Hana's group as they too tried to figure out where the scream came from. Adrian thought it had come from the same direction that Shoutmon had wandered off to, but another voice was heard before he could point that out. "Help! Humans! Help me, please!" It was a Labramon running down the path towards the group. She looked very dirty and beat up, and she had a look on her face that was like a mix of exhaustion and pure terror. A few seconds later, however, something else had managed to catch up to her. With a wild growl-like roar, it leapt on top of the Labramon and bit right into her neck, ripping a piece right off. Labramon screamed as she fell to the ground, allowing her assailant to truly start feasting on her right then and there in amazingly gruesome fashion. Adrian's eyes darkened with horror as he took a step back, with Gammamon so stunned that he didn't even know what to say or do. "Wh-what the fuck..." In between his feasting, the Digimon in question lifted its head up once to roar at the group before feasting on his Labramon meal again. This Digimon was obviously an Elecmon, but many things were very wrong. For one, it was covered in some kind of dark-green blood. Second, its fur was pale and rotting away, with even a bit of skin hanging off and revealing a wire frame underneath. Its teeth were yellow, rotted and dripping with more blood. And finally, its eyes were now fully glowing a redish-orange color.
Meanwhile, Shoutmon was still dealing with the Palmon that made the SOS signal to begin with. "Jesmon Christ Mode, what happened to you?!"
"I wasn't fast enough, and they got me. It's already too late for me, now get out of here before I do something awful to you!"
"What are you talking about?!" Shoutmon asked, not getting why this Palmon was so adamant about being left behind to die like this. Shoutmon could then hear footsteps from the other end of the alley, where he saw a silhouette of a limping Digimon walking by. "Hey! You there! We've got an injured Digimon here, I need some help!"
"What are you doing, you idiot?!"
The figure stopped for a few moments before turning around, now limping towards Shoutmon and the Palmon. The red dragon smiled at this before turning back to Palmon. "Hey, look, I promise that we're gonna get you somewhere sa-"
*BLEEEEEUGH!*
Shoutmon was interrupted when Palmon turned her head to the side before violently vomiting up a bunch of dark-green liquid, which looked a hell of a lot like blood. Shoutmon's eyes widened as he shot back up to his feet, clearly disturbed by what he had just seen. The Palmon proceeded to have a coughing fit, her green skin turning more and more pale, the leaves on her head starting to wither away. Then, the Palmon stood up. "P-Palmon...?"
She turned her head towards Shoutmon with her now glowing red-orange eyes and let out a scream, the very same scream that Adrian and the others would've heard earlier. "HOLY SHIT!" Shoutmon yelped as he jumped back, his eyes widening with fear. And since the other Digimon was now closer, he too was revealed to be a Dracmon in a similar state as Palmon, with red-orange glowing eyes and rotting skin. Both diseased Digimon were now making horrifying growling noises as they sauntered towards Shoutmon himself. "What in Yggdrasil's name happened to the both of you?!"

"Actually, I have agreed to take on young Kohaku as my student." Kaito explained, letting Gem know that he did, in fact, know the young Falcomon.
As Rush kept trying to get between Hana and Gem, Hana reached down and picked up the little Morphomon. "Hey, there's no need to be rude like that Rush."
"But you're my mom! That means I'm the one you should give your attention too!" Rush complained, squirming in Hana's grip. This tantrum only earned him a stern look from Hana.
"That may be so, but's its no excuse for you to be a jerk to Gem! Now, I want you to apologize to him, or you won't get any dessert for a week." Hana scolded, before planting Rush right back down in front of Gem.
The disgruntled Morphomon grumbled to himself before letting out a quiet, "I'm sorry" to the young Gammamon. It wasn't enough to fully satisfy Hana, but she knew they had more important things to focus on right now.
Meanwhile, Sakura had the decency to look ashamed after Adrian scolded her for being so nonchalant about Shoutmon running off on his own. "Yeah, alright. That wasn't very cool of me to say."
After the scream went off and put everybody on edge, the sight of the Labaramon getting attacked and eaten by the mutilated Elecmon ended up pushing Hana over the edge and causing her to vomit at the sheer gore.
As the mutilated Elecmon turned and growled at them, Sakura responded by firing off a Flower Cannon shot right at the creature's head. "I f**king called it! Total Resident Evil scenario!"
"Not. Helping." Data reiterated, although he also followed up Sakura's attack by firing off a pair of Warning Lasers from his eyes at the Elecmon.
Sakura: -Flower Cannon: Thrusts both of its arms forward, makes a gun muzzle from the petals on its wrists, and fires an energy shell. 2 post cooldown. (0/2)
Data: -Warning Laser: Fires lasers from its eyes. Deals a light amount of damage, 1 post cooldown. (0/1)

Shoutmon was forced to back up as the messed-up Palmon and Dracmon kept limping towards him, faster than anyone would expect. "Palmon, what are you doing?!" Shoutmon asked in vain as neither her nor the Dracmon were responding, aside from making growling noises and coming closer towards the red dragon. Shoutmon himself was scared beyond all reason, as he's never encountered Digimon that were trying to eat him before. But then a realization made itself known in Shoutmon's mind.
ADRIAN! GEM!
He immediately started running back to the others, knowing that these messed up Digimon were lurking around in this village. If what happened to Palmon happened to Adrian or Gem... no, he couldn't think about that now! He just had to focus on getting back and saving the others!
So apparently, Kaito actually did know Kohaku, and was even the Falcomon's teacher. "...huh, well would you look at that?" Adrian said, trying to hold in his laughter at how much of a coincidence that was.
"You're his teacher? That's so cool!" Gem said, looking up at the Tuwarmon with his eyes practically sparkling and his tail waving back and forth. "Are you gonna teach him to be the best ninja ever, Mr. Kaito? Do you know Ruri as well? She's Kohaku's sister, and she can do magic and stuff!" The absolutely adorable aura that Gem was emanating right now would be too much for one mortal to comprehend.
With Rush though, Gem was still upset at how the Morphomon just pushed him out of the way like that. Hana seemed to agree, as she scolded Rush for doing so and made him apologize to Gem. The Gammamon wasn't as forgiving though, as he just pushed the Morphomon right back, though his strength made it so that Rush would completely fall to the floor. "Gem, what was that for?" Adrian asked, leaning down to help Rush get back up.
"He pushed me first!"
"Like Hana said, that's no excuse to be a jerk to Rush." He looked back over at Hana. "We might wanna keep these two away from each other for a while."
Then... that scene happened. The zombified Elecmon looked at the group and roared, causing Gem to scream and cry, clutching tightly onto Adrian's pant leg as Sakura and Data acted swiftly, attacking the Elecmon immediately. It was defeated, of course, it never even stood a chance... but at the expense of the Elecmon's face being completely mutilated seemingly beyond repair, as its body just laid there with a giant bleeding hole in its head.
"Why isn't its body disappearing...?" Adrian asked. Both the Labramon and Elecmon's bodies simply remained, not disappearing into data like they were supposed to. That was Adrian's big indicator that there was some nasty outside force affecting the Digimon here. The way that Elecmon acted, though... could they be...?
"Adrian! Gem!"
"Shoutmon?!"
Sure enough, here comes Shoutmon running back to join up with the others, but he too had a look on his face that proved that he saw his own messed-up stuff. But even then, he had to pause and step back when he saw the two dead Digimon laying on the ground. "O-oh god, what the hell...?!" Shoutmon asked, covering his mouth in an attempt to prevent himself from vomiting like Hana did. "What happened here?!"
"Daddy!" Gem cried, tears running down his face as he ran up and gave Shoutmon a big hug. "Daddy, th-these Digimon were eating each other, a-a-and Sakura and Data shot at them, and they're leaking red stuff, and-and-and... AAAAUUUUGHAHAHAHA!"
"Sh-sh-shhhh... it's okay, I'm here now, and I won't let go..." Shoutmon said, hugging his son closer and trying to calm the little Gammamon down. "Adrian, I found the one who sent the S.O.S... and she almost immediately tried to eat me. Something bad's happening here."
"That's what that Elecmon did to the Labramon over there... could this be...?"
Suddenly, more loud zombie screams could be heard. Adrian and Shoutmon looked around, as it sounded like these screams were coming from everywhere at once. From one boarded-up house in particular, tons of loud banging sounds were coming from within the house before multiple Digimon arms came out of it, trying to escape the house. And not only that, more roaming rookie-level Digimon zombies were beginning to corner the group, severely outnumbering them all. Clearly they had heard the sounds of fighting coming from here, and were drawn to the noise.
"Holy shit..."

Well, Hana's attempt to get Rush to make amends with Gem seemed to backfire, seeing as the Gammamon just shoved Rush onto his back after the Morphomon gave his reluctant apology. Rush glared at Gem as he rubbed his sore back from hitting the dirt. Adrian's suggestion to keep the two kids separated seemed like a good idea, seeing as Rush literally hissed at the Gammamon like an angry cat while Hana picked him right back up. "Alright, this was a bad idea."
While Shoutmon was running back and comforting the crying Gem after the incident with the zombified Elecmon, Sakura went to the two dead Digimon and stabbed her sword into the Labramon's head so it wouldn't reanimate and attack them as well. Can't be too careful when zombies are involved after all, although it probably wouldn't make her look very good in the eyes of the others.
This 'double tap' tactic was probably a good idea, especially as a swarm of zombified Rookies started coming towards the group from all sides. It didn't look very good for the group, as they didn't seem to have anywhere to run and escape the horde.
As he scanned their surroundings, Data came up with a plan for escape. Unfortunately for the group, it was an extremely risky one that involved someone trying to lure part of the horde away as bait so the others could escape. Data was unwilling to let anyone else put themselves at risk, so he started charging off towards part of the horde, letting off steam to create a sound similar to a train whistle. This would prove effective at thinning the horde, leaving a gap that the group could escape through while the Guardromon lured the zombies away
"Data! Come back!" Hana called out, fearing for her older partner's well-being.
Data merely shook his head and kept moving. "Go! I'll be fine. I'd like to see these things try to chew their way through solid metal!"
And with that, the Guadromon was gone, having run off with a pack of the undead hot on his heels. Hana was left frozen in shock, unable to process the sight of her partner basically heading to his possible death.
"Come on! We're sitting ducks out here!" Sakura commanded, grabbing Hana by the arm and pulling her away as the group started running towards the opening Data had created. As they ran, a few zombies got a bit too close for comfort, but Sakura and Kaito would keep the undead at bay with their weapons.

Naturally, Shoutmon was very upset when he saw Sakura walk up to the injured Labramon and stabbed her sword into its head. He wasn't as informed about the idea of zombies as Adrian was, so he saw it as Sakura murdering someone in cold blood instead of healing them. "What the hell is the matter with you, Sakura?! We could've saved her!" This act also caused Gem to cry more, so she wasn't very popular in his eyes, either.
"No, she did the right thing," Adrian said, defending the Lillymon as he walked up to the two dead Digimon corpses, inspecting them closer. Where as the Elecmon had gone completely pale and had glowing green vein-like energy coursing through its body, the Labramon only had a part of its body be that pale, and that energy seemed to be spreading throughout the rest of the body from the bite itself... or it would, had Sakura not taken the initiative and killed them before they could reanimate.
"Adrian, what're you doing?"
"I think we're dealing with some kind of zombie virus here. You said that the Digimon that brought us here tried to eat you, right?"
"Yeah, as well as this other Dracmon that came by. I tried asking him for help, and they both came at me like they hadn't eaten in weeks while I was dressed as a giant piece of meat."
"Well, look here... this green stuff is spreading throughout the Digimon's body, making it all pale and fall apart. This must be the virus itself, which might also be keeping it together after death. Once it reaches the Digimon's brain... game over. They're officially one of them."
Shoutmon looked like he was going to be sick. "Well... how does someone get infected, then?"
The zombie horde arrived before Adrian was able to explain. All of them had the orange glowing eyes, they all looked pale, and they all had that dark green vein effect coursing throughout their bodies as they groaned, shambling towards the group. Adrian and Shoutmon were desperately trying to find a way out of this before Data beat them to the punch. He attempted to get the zombies' attention before running off, luring them away and leaving a gap for the others to get through.
"Wait, no! Stop!" Adrian cried out, also fearing for Data against literal zombies. He reassured to the others that he'd be fine before running off, a chunk of the horde chasing after him. "Shit... Hana, I'm so sorry, but we need to keep moving!"
The group would then take their chance and run through the opening, with Adrian holding onto Gem while Shoutmon worked with Kaito and Sakura to fend off the other zombies. The groaning sounds and the splatting from weapons and attacks colliding with undead digital flesh was too much for the poor Gammamon to handle. Finally, Adrian spotted an open house with not a lot of zombies around it... a perfect place for them to take shelter. "That house, over there! Hurry!"
Shoutmon nodded and attempted to follow the others, but alas, he was careless. In a moment where the others wouldn't have noticed, a zombified Agumon had jumped out in front of him and started biting Shoutmon hard on his left wrist. "AAAAAUGH!" Shoutmon angrily cried out in pain before using his mic staff to repeatedly bash the Agumon's head until it let go. "LET! GO! OF! ME!" Once the now dead Agumon dropped to the ground (a sight that still greatly disturbed Shoutmon,) Shoutmon briefly looked down at the bite mark on his wrist. It was bleeding greatly, but he figured he could just get it patched up later as he managed to join back up with the others.
Unbeknownst to Shoutmon, however, green vein-like energy was spreading from the bite mark throughout his wrist, and soon his arm... it wouldn't be long before the other side effects would start to kick in.

When Shoutmon called Sakura out on stabbing the infected Labramon, the Lillymon was somewhat ashamed for jumping to such a violent reaction out of reflex, even after Adrian started explaining how it might have been a smart idea before the group had to run to avoid the zombie horde.
As Hana and her friends ran toward the house Adrian pointed out, they would be too far ahead of Shoutmon to notice him being attacked and bitten by the zombie Agumon. Once everyone had made it inside the house, Sakura and Kaito would immediately get to work barricading the doors and windows with whatever they could find. Hopefully, this would keep the zombies out long enough for the group to come up with a plan of some sort.
While the barricades were being set up, Hana ended up punching a wall in frustration due to the stunt Data pulled, ignoring the pain that flared up in her hand immediately after doing so. Hana loved the Guardromon as much as anyone else in her family, but his sheer disregard for his own life was driving her to her limit.
"Why? Why do you keep doing this, Data?" She uttered in a choked whisper, holding firmly onto Rush as if the Morphomon might suddenly run off on her like his twin did.
Speaking of said Guardromon, Data continued running even after he'd lured away part of the hoard until he figured that he was a reasonable distance away from the others. That was when the Guardromon quickly spun around and started laying into the incoming horde with everything he had. "All right, you Raccoon City rejects. You want to eat me? You'll have to work for it!"
He unleashed an all-out Guardian Barrage upon the zombies before resorting to pummeling them with his fists. The Guardromon would manage to take out a few zombies with his attacks, but eventually their seemingly endless numbers would prevail, slowly burying Data under a bunch of undead Rookies that started tearing into him with their teeth. As it turned out, they could chew through metal just fine.
The last sight Data would see before being completely buried was a lone zombie, an infected Scopemon, crawling on a nearby rooftop. The Scopemon merely stared at Data, the intelligent look in it's glowing eye making clear that this zombie was different from the weaker ones. Buried under the horde, Data couldn't tell if the chill running through his body was from the virus now coursing through his system, or that Scopemon's calculating stare. Sakura: -Flower Cannon: Thrusts both of its arms forward, makes a gun muzzle from the petals on its wrists, and fires an energy shell. 2 post cooldown. (2/2)
Data: Guardian Barrage: Fires whistling missiles from the retractable missile launchers in its forearms. Deals a medium amount of damage, 2 post cooldown. (0/2)

Adrian, Shoutmon and Gem would be the last ones to get into the house, with Shoutmon holding his arm after he was bitten. Adrian immediately slammed the door once everyone was inside, stopping the zombies momentarily from getting in. And just like that, Kaito and Sakura would both get to work on barricading the doors and windows to stop the zombie Digimon from getting in, while the others sat down and tried to recuperate after what they had just been through.
"They were trying to eat us..." Gem said, sniffling as tears came down his eyes. "Why... why did they wanna do that? We're not food, are we?" The poor Gammamon couldn't even comprehend what was happening.
Meanwhile, it was hard not to notice how Hana was punching the wall like that, obviously because of the stunt Data had pulled to save everyone. Adrian couldn't stand to see her like this. He stood up and walked up behind Hana, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I know how you feel, Hana. I'm no stranger to loved ones doing risky things like that... but you have to remember, he did it to help you, to help all of us. Data's going to be fine, I'm sure of it."
"Bluh... Adrian, I'm not feeling all that great," Shoutmon said as he held his stomach. It felt like his stomach was both spinning in circles and also crying for food at the same time. Then Gem would say something that'd make everyone turn to look right at Shoutmon:
"Dad, did something bite you?"
Adrian would immediately walk up to his partner and look at his arm. Sure enough, Shoutmon had been bitten, and the infection was coursing through his arm even more. Adrian went pale as he picked Gem up, bringing him away from Shoutmon. "Gem, stay away from him!"
"But he's my dad, why do I have to stay away?"
"Adrian, what are you doing?" Shoutmon asked, not having put two and two together yet.
"Shoutmon, being bitten by one of those things is how you turn... you're going to become one of them!"
Shoutmon's eyes widened with horror as he heard those words. His face started going pale, but not because of the virus. "Wh... no, no! I-I can't be one of them, I don't want to be! I don't wanna eat you!" Alas, Shoutmon was starting to become hungrier by the second... he looked over at Sakura, who was most likely going to try and kill Shoutmon by this point. He didn't need to say anything to her, as his facial expression said it all.
"No! My daddy's strong! He's not a person eater!" Gem was screaming, crying as he tried to convince himself that his dad wasn't going to die. "He isn't gonna become mean and evil! He isn't!"

Adrian's attempt to console Hana would sadly not be as effective as he'd hoped, as Hana turned to him with tears running down her face.
"This isn't even the first time he's pulled something like this, or even gotten himself killed doing so! No matter what happens, his first instinct is to just charge in recklessly, as if he's actively trying to get himself killed!" Hana exclaimed. This situation might not be the best time to have an emotional breakdown like this, but that dam had already broken wide open. "Does he not realize how much it hurts to watch him throw his life away over and over, or does he just not care?"
After that outburst, Hana just stood there with Rush in her arms, Tamer and partner hugging each other tightly as Rush tried to comfort her as best he could. Unfortunately, that emotional meltdown would not be the only issues within the shelter, as it was revealed that Shoutmon had actually been bitten.
Shoutmon looked at Sakura as if he expected her to try and kill him like she had done to the Labramon, which honestly didn't surprise Sakura in the least. "Okay, this is bad, but not hopeless! If the infection hasn't reached his shoulder, we might be able to help him by amputating the infected limb. It's not ideal, but I don't know what else we can try."

Adrian had to back up a bit when Hana suddenly started shouting at him like that. According to her, it was a normal thing for him to just rush in without a plan when it was very likely for him to get killed. Obviously, it upset her greatly that Data was so willing to throw his life away the way he has been doing. "Hana, please calm down, getting worked up like this isn't going to help anyone right now. We can work this out once this place is safe."
Unfortunately, things got worse when it was revealed that Shoutmon had been bitten. Adrian felt his stomach drop just from the very thought of seeing Shoutmon like those other Digimon outside. "Shoutmon..." Adrian muttered, his eyes starting to tear up once the reality of what was going to happen truly set in. "Dad..."
Out of everyone, Shoutmon was easily the most scared about what was going to happen. Was he truly going to lose his mind and turn into some kind of rampaging cannibal? It had to be the case, since he was starting to see his fellow partner and son as tasty drumsticks. Sakura suggested cutting off his arm, to which Shoutmon did not want at all. "I'm not gonna let you do that, you lunatic!" Shoutmon yelled before he could feel something come up his throat. He put his hand over his mouth to stop himself from spewing everywhere, but the little bit that did come out and was now dripping from Shoutmon's hand confirmed it... the same green liquid as before. "This... this is what... happened to the Palmon..."
The infection went past his shoulder, and was started to travel throughout the rest of his body. "Adri, Gem- *cough* *cough* I think it's happening... I gotta get out of here."
"Daddy, please! Don't go!" Gem cried, reaching out towards his father while Adrian was still holding onto him. "I don't want you to be one of them! PLEASE!"
"I don't think I have a choice, pal..." He walked over to the door, grabbing onto the door knob before looking at his partner and son, who were both in tears. "Adrian, Gem... please... you both need to make it out of here alive. The same goes for the rest of you. As long as I'm still sane, no one else is dying tonight!" And with that, Shoutmon quickly opened the door and closed it behind him. "DADDY!!!" Gem cried as he tried with all of his might to get free from Adrian's grasp. "Let go of me! We need to save my dad!"
"It's too late, Gem!" Adrian cried out. His strength wasn't enough though, and Gem was able to break free, but he wasn't able to open the door, as Shoutmon sat beside it to make sure that wouldn't happen.
"DADDY!!! DADDY!!! DADDY, PLEASE COME BACK IN!"
Shoutmon could hear Gem's screams as he sat down against the door. He was starting to cry tears of his own as he felt the virus coursing through his data, and his sanity was depleting by the minute as the horde of Digimon zombies came closer and closer... the last thing he remembered was one painful cry from his own son... "DADDYYYYYYY!"
Hours had gone by since then, now being the middle of the night outside. The horde had managed to stop trying to break into the house, as if deciding it wasn't worth it and went back to sauntering outside. Some may have been sleeping, searching the house, or just trying to get their mind off the most recent trauma. For Adrian, he was still sitting nearby the living room window, holding Gem who had managed to cry himself to sleep after almost an hour of non-stop crying.
Why... why did any of this have to happen? Those movies weren't lying... this is horrible.
Every once in a while, Adrian looked outside at the sauntering horde, who seemed to have dispersed somewhat to other parts of the town. But there was one that just never seemed to leave... Shoutmon himself. Now sporting the same decaying, pale look and glowing orange eyes as the others, and adopting the same rabid animal mannerisms as well. He truly was gone... replaced by an actual monster. The one he had spent his days with for years, who he thought would never leave his side... Shoutmon was dead. And it was likely that he was never coming back.
Realizing that that sight was making him even more depressed, he looked around to see what the others would be doing at this point in time, since it was clear that he wasn't going to be able to sleep.

After Shoutmon willingly left the house to avoid the risk of infecting anyone else after he turned, Sakura decided to just sit in the corner and stay out of everyone's way. Her attempts to try and help had only managed to make everything worse and likely paint her as some kind of psychopath in the eyes of Adrian and Gem. From now on, she was just gonna quietly follow everyone else's lead and just... stop offering to help unless asked, an attitude that went against everything the Lillymon usually stood for.
While Hana and Rush stayed in the living room with Adrian, Gem, and the morose Sakura, Kaito silently went from room to room in the house, searching for anything that may be of use to the group. After most of the group had eventually gone to sleep, Rush ended up being woken up by his own antenna tickling his face. Rubbing his eye, the Morphomon saw Adrian staring out of the window and decided to do something.
The Morphomon slowly wiggled out of Hana's arms, careful to not wake her, and quietly floated over towards Adrian. He made sure to approach from an angle Adrian would be able to see, so as to not startle him and risk waking Gem up by accident. As he hovered near the young adult, he followed Adrian's gaze to the zombified Shoutmon outside and let out a sad hum. "Losing family hurts."

As Adrian turned to look over at the rest of his sleeping companions, he saw that Rush was slowly floating over to him. He hovered next to the human as he too looked out the window, seeing the zombified Shoutmon sauntering outside like the other Zombimons out there. The Morphomon just sighed, simply stating that losing family hurts. "It does... it really does. I can't imagine how Gem feels about all of this. If I saw my own dad become something like that..."
It was then that Adrian started thinking about the rest of the family, too. Skye, Luneth, Rory... how were they going to take to hearing that their beloved Shoutmon was now a mindless husk, looking only to feast on the non-infected? Looking at the thing that now masquerades as a Shoutmon that's rotted and falling apart... no, that wasn't the Shoutmon that had partnered with Adrian, the Shoutmon that Skye fell in love with. "I wonder if they're all still in there, subconsciously. Able to see and comprehend what they're doing, but unable to control themselves."
Adrian was also wondering if Data had actually made it out. He understood why Hana was so mad at Data, as Shoutmon had done such a thing countless times before. But what else could've been done? Sure, Adrian could've evolved Shoutmon then and there, but minds don't think rationally under sudden severe stress. Besides, if those things could still infect higher level Digimon, then evolution would've added more problems in the long run. Adrian was just hoping Data wouldn't come back to them as one of those things... a Guardromon zombie would be a lot like one of those bruiser types from the video games, and that was the last thing they needed. Hey, maybe they couldn't infect robot-type Digimon... that was always a possibility.
Kaito was looking around for something useful earlier... Adrian would have to take a look here at some point, see what he actually found. Maybe there was something here that could help them.
"...are you doing alright, Rush?" Adrian eventually asked, wanting the Morphomon's take on this whole ordeal. "This whole thing has got to be even more rough on you and Gem than the rest of us."
