"Aughhh..." Moaned the small green digimon cradled within Amy's arms. He was still seeing stars, and the voices of his human comrades now sounded so very distant. A few minutes later, the flytrap on his tail twitched, and he hazily opened his eyes. Soon enough, Amy's ceiling came into focus, and Rinji remembered where he was.
"D-did it work?" He asked wearily, still dazed from the fall. His voice was a lot more child-like now. He propped himself up to see that Amy was holding him, and Isaac and Elliot were watching. Then he looked down at himself. "A-ah! I'm a Chilomon again!" He squeaked, amazed. It had felt like such a long time since he'd been like this.
It felt so strange, like being turned into a newt. Rinji noted however, that he could still feel the power and knowledge of his rookie form. He could probably digivolve back anytime he wanted, if he had to. He shivered, and looked up to Amy with bright yellow eyes. "So what do we do now?"

Nodding softly at Elliot and Isaac's words, she waited for Rinji's eventual awakening patiently, until he eventually... did! "You're awake..." She muttered under her breath, almost in awe at the sight of the "new" digimon in front of her.
She made sure to hold him gently, and even if the brunette was startled by his sudden exclamation, she could imagine he was as surprised as her. Or at least close; she couldn't imagine how changing forms suddenly would feel and frankly... wasn't excited to find out. The teenager stared blankly for some moments, before finally snapping back to reality and promptly shaking her head.
"Uh, well. We can try to get you back to your world when you're ready? I mean, I'm not in a hurry and we kinda need Elliot and Isaac to guide us to the place where we are supposed to go but... yeah."
It was a bit awkward to retell a plan that was already discussed, but that was fine. If anything, they were really close to accomplishing it.

(Holy fuck I forgot I was up D: Sorry!!!) Awww. Baby Rinji was actually really adorable when he wasn't knocked right out. Elliot smiled softly upon seeing the little Digimon come to. "See? There you go!" he chirped happily. "And don't worry. It's a lot easier to turn back to a big centipede than it was the first time. You basically just gotta do that again, but the other way around. Easy, right?" Probably not. Thankfully, Elliot had it covered. "Oh! Without falling on a table again, of course," he added helpfully.
Thankfully, the plan wouldn't be nearly as hard to describe the second time around. "It isn't too bad a walk, thankfully," Isaac said. "You know the train station around here? There's a terminal hooked up to the Digital World. Trust me, you'll know which one it is. It won't take any tickets, it'll respond to our Digivices, and the trains in there talk. Everything'll make more sense once we cross back over."
"We won't need to keep as secret, either," Elliot added. "With you being this small, Rinji, we can hide you way more easily than on the way back. At this point, unless something unexpected happens on the walk, we're in the clear!"

Rinji wriggled in Amy's arms as he listened to the three humans. "Uh-huh," he replied, still feeling quite out of it. "You didn't tell me your table was so hard," the bug complained to Elliot.
He looked around the room, still marvelling at how everything was larger again. "It's got to be the same train station you found me at!" He mentioned to Amy as Isaac explained their plan. And then he suddenly wondered if Amy had been going home when she tackled him and whisked him away into the wide human world. "It's gonna be weird to go back again..." Despite the relatively short time he'd spent in the human world so far, it felt like an eternity.
Suddenly hearing his name in the discussion again, he listened closely to Elliot. "I'm sure nothing weird'll happen. After all, there aren't any scary monsters in this world, right?"
"So, uh, where do I hide?"

The plan seemed to be relatively simple, and Amy found the pieces of the puzzle coming together soon enough. Yup! Just take Rin-Rin to the train station where she found him, search for a strange gate that reacted to the brother's digivices and that would be it. Rinji would be safe and sound and hopefully on the way back home, and Amelie could finally begin thinking about what she would make out of this situation instead of simply rolling with it.
"Alright, that sounds like a plan to me." She said, not resisting the urge to pet Rinji's small form. He was simply too cute! "Regarding where we can hide Rin-Rin. I guess that if he doesn't move he can pass as some kind of stuffed toy or something? If not, I should have a duffel bag large enough for him laying around. Whatever would be more comfortable for you works for me too."
Amelie wasn't sure which one would provide the digimon with more freedom, so the decision was up to him in that regard. "By the look of it, the journey there will be a lot less bumpy than what happened last night, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about, I think!"
They could go there at any moment, honestly, but finishing the preparations was probably the most important thing right now.

Oh no. Rinji hit his head so hard, he forgot who owned that table! "Actually, that's Amy's table," Elliot said, hurriedly running into the kitchen to make Rinji an impromptu ice pack. "Are you okay? Oh, please don't move too much, but this is gonna be a little cold . . ." He came out with ice wrapped in a paper towel, a solution that had slain countless bumps and bruises when he was a kid. He breathed on it to make it less overbearingly cold, then gingerly pressed it to the back of Rinji's head. Would this even work on a Digimon? Frankly, Isaac had no idea.
At the mention of scary monsters in the human world, Isaac shook his head. "Not the kind you have to worry about, at least," he said. There were a lot of crummy and downright scummy people in the human world, to be blunt. Isaac was raised by one of them! But he knew Rinji was more likely to be talking about something normal, like gorillas with miniguns for hands or living fire birds. " 'Sides, it's just a quick walk down to the train station. Even if there was trouble, there's no way it'd even know to catch us in time. Nobody wakes up this early on a weekend!" Well, Japanese students did, but even they didn't pull the kind of all-nighter that Elliot and Isaac had.
"Any other questions before we go?" Elliot asked, seeing that Amelie had tackled the topic of transportation quite well. "If not, let's make sure we're out before it gets busy around Scramble Crossing. We don't want to be asked too many questions, right?"

Rinji was surprised when he felt Amy start to pet him. "A stuffed toy? I can pretend to be one of those?" He asked, looking up at Amy with bright yellow eyes. Of course he knew what stuffed toys were, but it had never occurred to him. In truth, he'd much rather not be stuffed into a bag. Amy's arms were pretty comfy when you were right-side up.
He looked back at Elliot. Huh, so it was Amy's table... huh? "What are you doing?" He asked, seeing Elliot wrapping some ice together. "It's freezing!" He complained when the ice pack was pressed against his head. It was like winter all over again!
At least Isaac had said there wouldn't be any monsters. It should be easy then, right? Especially now that he could pretend to be a stuffed toy thanks to Amy's table. After Isaac asked if there were any more questions, Rinji looked back at the table... it wasn't even scratched. "Do humans make tables out of Control Spires?"
Other than that, he was ready to go when Amy was.

Elliot's gesture, while endearing, managed to actually... bring a fair bit of questions to Amelie's head. In fact, she stared at him while he tried to apply ice on Rinji's head with a bit of confusion. Now that she thought about it, the digimon didn't feel warm at all, which probably meant his body behaved like most invertebrates' or plants'. Which in turn meant...
"I'm sure Rin-Rin would be thankful if he knew what are you up to, but..." She had the feeling that this would feel pretty bad for Elliot, but the fact that the ice was causing discomfort to the digimon was something the brunette wanted to avoid, if able. "If he's true to his form, I'd have some kind of liquid smeared on my hands, given that those types have open circulatory systems. No risk of him getting bruised, or at least that's what I'd like to believe." Prooobably a small, awkward pause would ensue after that, and chances were Amy would feel a bit bad about her words. "Sorry for being a smartass, by the way."
Once that was out of the way, she'd gaze back at the small being that was currently residing on her arms, and smile at him warmly. "Just make sure to not move and I believe we'll be fine. I'd rather not get you into a bag if I can so... I think it's for the best."
Not to say, that way she'd have the cute little being on her arms for more time. Win-win, right? Now that everything was more or less in order, she got up, and while making the gesture to walk towards the exit door, she was heard Rin-Rin's last question, and couldn't but stare at him almost as if he had grown another tail.
"Make tables out of... what?"
Yeahhh... Probably something one of the bros would have to answer.

Elliot blushed nervously as he realized his mistake, quickly pulling away his makeshift ice pack. No wonder this made poor Rinji feel bad! It was too close to his circulatory system, and it wasn't even useful. "Oh no, I'm so sorry," he said. "We never really learned all that kind of stuff in school yet. Thanks for telling me before Rinji got hurt or anything.
So, wait, are Digimon like the things they're based on? Like, is a humanish Digimon like Angemon going to be just like a person?" Where there was originally remorse in Elliot's words, now there was a ton of curiosity. He took out his adventure journal, excitedly jotting a few notes in the margins. "I mean, if you know about this kind of stuff, I'd love to hear more! If that's okay with you, of course."
Isaac would have loved to get into this knowledge train, but he was a bit more confused by what Rinji was talking about. "Nope. No idea what you're talking about, sorry," he said. "I mean, we just kinda make them out of wood, usually. Sometimes metal or glass? Good thing you didn't fall into those, because trust me, that hurts."
Hearing this, Elliot snickered, clearly remembering some of the more messy days of Isaac's parkour phase. "I'm still really amazed you didn't get any scars from that, bro," he said.
"Still, pretty sure that's not control spires. Whatever those are," Isaac said. "Wood doesn't have superpowers in the Digital World, does it?"

That ice on his head had been really uncomfortable. Although the talk of open circulatory systems sounded... science-y. It was all a bit too confusing for the digimon- he just knew he was an insect digimon. Still, he tried to understand what Amelie and Elliot were saying.
"You mean how some digimon are different?" He thought hard, semi-understanding. Are digimon like the things they're based on? For all Rinji knew, centipedes and insects were based on digimon. The way his body worked would've been the only thing he'd ever known.
Elliot was right. Angemon did look like a human, although there were some differences Rinji wasn't sure about. "I've never seen an Angemon take off his helmet though. I'll have to ask next time I see one," he commented, still thinking about Elliot's question and how to answer it fully. He was quite happy to try and teach a human about digimon; Elliot's curiosity was too passionate not to oblige.
The situation reminded him of what he was taught in the Village of Beginnings. "Well... I'm an insect digimon, so I only need to breathe to talk or pant when I get too hot." It was one of the differences he'd remembered being taught. Something to do with being able to absorb air from his surroundings? He'd never questioned his own or anyone else's digi-biology before that lesson.
"I couldn't imagine having to suck in air all the time." His own ability to 'breathe' was superficial - useful only for the aforementioned ability to talk or cool-down. So of course he never bothered to do it unless he needed to.
What else was there?
"Umm... my blood is a different colour. It's blue... I don't know why though." That had been something he'd discovered by himself, a thing that'd never bothered him until he realised other digimon had red blood. Digimon didn't really bleed much though - if they did they would just destabilise and disintegrate back into data to be re-processed. Maybe Amelie would know more about that?
At least he wouldn't have to hide in a bag. "I can stay really still!" With his insect ability to not breathe, it'd be a breeze. He could finally go home.
Rinji was still safely tucked within Amelie's arms when she got up and prepared for the group to leave. It was so weird to be carried like that, but kind of fun too. Not to mention he was starting to feel quite cosy. How couldn't he when her body was so warm?
Still, the conversation continued, and it seemed like he'd completely confused the humans. "I heard somewhere that control spires stop digimon from evolving. Maybe control spires are made from wood?" In all honesty, he had no idea. Could wood be black?
"Woodmon are like super-powered tree stumps! I'd never want to hit my head on one of those." They were bad-tempered for trees, anyway. There again, he never really got along with plant digimon, even if he was one in his in-training form. He always considered himself to be more bug than plant though.

It was interesting how seemingly innocuous words had enabled Elliot's own curiosity. Had Amelie done well on doing that? She wasn't sure, but apparently, there was harm done as Rinji explained how his body worked, at least in comparison to other digimon's.
Now, the teenager could barely follow the conversation, but at least she could get more or less a vague idea of what her small friend was referring to, at least in general, biology terms. Otherwise, she could pretty much classify herself as a complete ignorant on digital matters. Had it been fine for her to open this can of worms? No way for her to know.
"Control Spires, huh..." That had been the term that Amy herself found completely alien. At least by its sound, it could probably be something like a control tower from an airport? Or a broadcasting station. Did digimon even have planes, though? Probably something she'd have to find out later. Nevermind that they actually did something that had nothing to do with that. "Sounds like those are pretty interesting structures. Even if not super friendly; wonder if I'll be able to see one up close someday."
Barring the Digimon talk she barely understood, they were pretty much ready to go. "Alright. Take there's nothing else to be said? I think we can go to the Train Station now." Oh, right! Maybe there was! "If you need something while we're walking, tug my sleeve. Okay, Rinji? That way, you won't need to talk 'in public'. Is that fine?"
Without much else to add, she'd get to the apartment's door and promptly open it. Time to get outside.

"Yeah! Like that!" Elliot said. "You guys have a lot of variety, so I guess there's a lot more to consider with you than there is with humans. But then again, there's a lot of variety here on Earth too. It's just that way less of it talks. Or moves. Or shoots lasers from their eyes." It was easy to think of Digimon as the counterparts to several things in the real world, but there really wasn't an easy one size fits all answer. Even if the Digivice referred to them in Earth-like categories for human understanding, they were all so unique and distinct.
"Wouldn't it be crazy if they didn't even have anything under their helmet?" Isaac asked, half joking and half seriously curious. "You just ask one to take off their helmet, and they say 'dude, not cool, that's my face.' Or something like that."
It could've just been something an Angemon took for granted. Just like how Elliot and Isaac took breathing for granted. "I mean, we don't really . . . suck," Elliot said. "You know. Unless we're really tired or air-starved. Most of the time it just kinda happens, without us even noticing."
"We pretty much have to try our hardest in order to stop," Isaac added.
Natural processes like that were really hard to stop. Maybe that was part of what made Control Spires sound so imposing. "Can something really do that? Just . . . shut off Digivolution altogether?" Elliot asked. "Now I'm really glad we haven't seen any of those. It can be tricky enough working with Digivolution when we aren't having it forced away from us." At least Woodmon seemed much easier to deal with!
Isaac preferred not to think about it. He looked at Amelie and nodded. "Ready when you are. Let's head out," he said.

Digimon certainly do have a lot of variety, Rinji thought, almost pridefully. But so did... Earth? Earth? Dirt? Soot? Muck? Mud?
"Earth?" He parroted, as if he'd heard the word for the first time. Ordinarily, he might've dismissed it as something along the lines of there being a lot of variety on the ground. But it'd been said with such an inflection as if to suggest it were special. One of a kind. Unique, but almost in a casual fashion.
A name.
It was a name.
He startled in Amelie's arms. Humans... they'd given their world a name. It was called Earth.
The realisation had hit him almost as hard as Amelie's table. And for some reason, he now found himself secretly intrigued. Impassioned, almost.
"Earth." He repeated again quietly, just enjoying the sounds it played on his mouth.
Even just hearing the word, 'Earth', made him want to jump for joy. It was so simple, humble, yet ingenious. They'd named their world after the ground. The ground that gave life to the trees, shape to the water and direction to the wind.
For a digimon that spent almost his entire life in the wilderness, this was monumental. For him, Earth, yes, Earth, had just been the human world. But now it was Earth. It was its own world. Humans just lived in it. Alongside it, even. And they'd acknowledged it. It was how he'd ever so subtly figured it out.
Maybe, just maybe, he wanted to come back at some point. If the Digital World had variety, what would Earth be like? Perhaps he'd only seen the human parts, after all. What other creatures, not digimon, not human, lived here?
Of course, by now, Rinji had completely phased out of the conversation. He was only jolted back into reality by a slight shifting from Amelie as she told him to tug at her sleeve if he needed anything.
"Uh, y-yeah," he replied, still enamoured by his realisation. Without further delay, the not so unusual party of two boys, a young lady and a strangely wide-eyed stuffed animal stepped out into the light. Their destination: the Train Station. Their real destination: the Digital World.
While they walked, the so-called stuffed animal waited for a calm in traffic when no other humans would see him talk, then spoke up again. "What kind of creatures live on Earth?" He asked innocently, almost like a child would. Were they what he'd seen on Amelie's phone earlier?

Now, Amelie was kind of a perceptive person, yet she had to admit to being somewhat surprised at Rinji's own fascination regarding the name 'Earth'. It made her wonder; did the Digital World have a name on its own, or was it just called 'Digital World'. Maybe not something to ask right now, and definitely something she could always ask down the line.
Smiling slightly at the cheery disposition everyone had at the moment, she stepped out and once everyone was outside, made sure to lock her apartment's door. Safety first, after all.
The small digimon would ask a very interesting question as they walked, and even if not entirely unexpected, kinda took Amelie by surprise. "What kind of creatures, huh? That's a good question." Adopting a thinking expression as they descended through the elevator, the brunette wasn't overly sure on what was the best answer to that. Amy didn't know anything about the denizens of the Digital World, so she couldn't really compare them to the animals that exist in here in any way.
"Well, where to begin..." Exiting the apartment was a simple deal, and soon enough they found themselves in the street. "Most of this world is inhabited by humans, like Elliot, Isaac or me, but then there are, uh... less intelligent living beings." Was that the best way to describe that? She wasn't sure, even though she tried to begin with the very basics; she gazed upward, and pointed at a pigeon currently flying above them. "Birds, for example, usually are small and have wings; they can fly, even though there are some exceptions. What's currently flying above us is a pigeon. With any luck... it won't try any kind of fun stuff on us."
Least to say, Amelie hadn't been on the receiving end of what more unfortunate people had received from pigeons, and wasn't excited for that to happen any time soon.
In any case... she ended up looking at Elliot and Isaac; they would probably be better at explaining this kinda stuff. Or at least at putting it in Rinji's perspective.

The bros couldn't help but smile as Rinji celebrated his revelation. To them, their world having a name was just a little fact of life. Was it different for Digimon? Or did they just always consider Earth the human world, just like how they considered the Digital World the . . . well, Digital World. It was the little details like that which made the bros realize, for all they had explored the Digital World, they really didn't know a ton about it. They were tourists. Recurring, almost perpetual, and at times downright heroic tourists, but still tourists nonetheless. They arrived when it suited them and left when it didn't, and how could one truly find understanding by doing that?
There was far too much in the human world for the bros to drop everything and explore the mysteries of the Digital World. However, it was hard not to let a thought like that linger. Maybe the next time the bros set foot in the Digital World, they'd start paying more attention.
"There's all kinds of life, really," Elliot said. "Some of it's big. Like, really, really big, so big that it's heart is the size of Isaac." By human standards that wasn't much, but it was still impressive! "And others are so small we can't even see them! We only know we're there because we built things to help us do that. And did you know we're made out of, like, a million of those tiny things? You'd never know it from looking at us, but it's true. Seriously.
But it's not just size! There's stuff that flies, stuff that swims, stuff that does both, stuff that doesn't do either. There's fuzzy stuff and hard stuff, and some stuff you really don't want to touch because it's dangerous. Some like the cold, some like the heat. Some stuff's kinda dumb, like hippos. And some are really smart, like us. And octopi. Octopi are honestly a bit too smart, really. And then there's some stuff that doesn't even think at all, like trees, but is still alive. And THEN there's some stuff that isn't even alive, but still does living things, like viruses. And you can see it all just by going to a museum, or looking on the internet. Isn't that cool?
And that's just the stuff on Earth. Who knows what else is out there? I mean, there's, like, seven other planets-"
"Eight." Isaac's voice got very dangerous there for a second.
"-that we haven't even been to. So who knows what we'll find there?"
Elliot probably just raised way more questions than he answered. But at least he tried his little heart out.
