The walk to the train station was proving to be one of the most educational moments Rinji had ever experienced in his life. Talk of less intelligent beings... were they like the tiny creatures that sometimes escaped from the human world and into the digital world? Creatures like moths and ants...
"Oh, I think I've seen some of them running around in the Digital World! Normally they get eaten though." Yes! But they were rare and often went ignored if not consumed. Not that he was partial to eating living creatures.
The bug's eyes filled with curiosity when Amelie pointed to the rock dove. It was only fleeting, but he think he understood. "So... they're like Earth versions of Digimon," he stated. Birds were just like, well, Birdramon.
There was one small thing that confused him. "So birds are tricksters?" He'd have to be wary of them if that was the case, though he had no idea what kind of 'fun stuff' they could pull.
Elliot was extremely enthusiastic when it came to explaining life on Earth. Although throughout the speech, Rinji couldn't help but think that they still sounded extremely similar to Digimon. There again, it made him wonder: was there an Earth creature that could defeat a Digimon? Surely not all of them were the same as humans.
"There are other creatures on Earth as smart as humans..." He mumbled to himself. Now that was definitely interesting. The talk of viruses went over his head, considering they had those too in the Digital World.
"There are more?" The digimon asked in shock. "I... I think I should definitely do some reading about it," he muttered. It was a shallow remark, but there was little chance Rinji wasn't going to make due on it. He said what he meant.
After this, the questions and talking ceased. It was about time too, because the group had just entered a crowded area and, soon enough, had walked into the train station. Rinji had to play as stiff as a board, glossy eyes wide in a mock attempt of a doll.
Now the group would be faced with the 'out of service' elevator. They needed only to descend it as a group, allow at least Rinji to board the train and say their farewells.
C'mon folks, just one more round of posts! We can do it ~

Maybe she hadn't been specific enough on her words. Maybe Amelie had assumed that everyone knew the kind of 'fun stuff' pigeons could pull on people. That had been sloppy on her part. And that meant she had to correct it, even if the answer wasn't precisely elegant.
"Nah, birds aren't tricksters. But pigeons are kinda known for... unwittingly defecating on living beings. And, as you might imagine, that's kinda gross. But other than that, they're okay." She made a small pause, moving onto a more pleasant topic. "But, I guess? I've yet to see a digimon that isn't you, but if you're anything to go by, I guess there are also digital birds or mammals and the stuff. Except they don't talk and probably aren't sapient."
Of course, she paid attention to Elliot's speech even though she didn't find the need to add anything to it. Eventually, the foursome got to the train station, Rinji freezing in order to pass as a plushie or something of the like.
The rest of the procedure, of course, was something that Amelie wasn't aware of. So... the brunette proceeded to stare at the brothers. They were the ones versed on the digital stuff, so they'd know how to proceed in this situation.
Least to say, she was curious about how that would happen. This would be quite the learning experience, if anything!

"Basically," Isaac said, finding Rinji had come to a similar conclusion to him and Elliot but in the opposite direction. "Sort of like how to us, you're a centipede Digimon. But to you, a centipede would be an Earth Rinji." He took out his phone, quickly flicking through it to try and pull up Google, but by the time he even got his phone out Elliot had already pulled up a picture of a centipede with spider-like agility. "I swear, you are way too good with that thing," Isaac said, rolling his eyes fondly as Elliot excitedly showed the picture off.
"Not that you're like that right this second, of course," Elliot pointed out. "Think right now you're more of a Venus Fly Trap? Maybe with a bit of Katydid mixed in. Here, let me show you . . ." Needless to say, Elliot was pulling up the pictures as fast as he'd mentioned them, proving that he clearly hadn't had enough biology rambling just yet.
With Elliot busy on phone duty, that left Isaac stuck with alien chat. "I mean, there's nothing there we can prove," he admitted. "Just a bunch of rocks and dust so far. But that doesn't stop life from off planet being what, like, half of the stories we write being about. It's kinda funny, really. Got a whole planet to ourselves, and all we can think about is what's on all the other ones out there. Guess we're always thinking three steps ahead of ourselves, huh?"
Unfortunately, the current three steps ahead were now blocked off by a train terminal. Isaac made sure to guide the assembled group past the normal stations, waiting until they reached a dusty, unused looking one at the end. "And here's our stop. You'll notice it says out of order, but . . ." he said, smiling mischievously as he trailed off. He whipped out his Digivice, put it to the terminal's ticket scanner, and surely enough it clicked to indicate being unlocked. "So if a human ever calls a Digivice their ticket to the Digital World, remember. They mean it pretty darn literally.
Your first taste of the other side is down past the terminal, so right this way, please."

"Oh." Rinji's take on birds being tricksters had been a big misunderstanding. "I'll, uh, make sure not to walk underneath them," he said. Though if they weren't that intelligent, they couldn't be blamed, could they?
Still, when Elliot pulled out his phone, the Digimon had leaned out of Amelie's arms to get a better view of the pictures. When he saw the picture of the centipede, he smiled in amusement. They did look similar! At least when he was Scolomon.
The other images elicited similar reactions. "My tail kinda does look like a fly trap," he agreed. "But I've never used it for uh, trapping flies?" That was another, subtle point: flies existed in the Digital World. Though in far lower numbers, simply due to the lack of carrion.
Isaac's ramblings after that were admittedly different, although interesting in their own right. In a way, it revealed that humans and Digimon could be similar, after all. Some Digimon dreamed of having a partner and being able to travel to the human world, so to learn that humans dreamed of visiting other worlds was humbling.
"Maybe one day, you'll be able to visit those worlds too.." Rinji whispered, rather excited by Isaac's own hype for other worlds. Of course, he risked blowing his cover by this point, but there were fewer people in front of the 'abandoned' elevator shaft than the rest of the station. "I know some Digimon without partners wish they could travel to the human world," he admitted. "So maybe we're not that different?"
Nonetheless, Rinji watched keenly as Isaac unlocked the terminal. He had no idea this was how humans had to travel to the Digital World. "Who built this thing?" He wondered out loud. Digimon? Humans? Both? What came first, the terminal or travelling to the Digital World?
The Digimon trembled excitedly in Amelie's arms as they entered the terminal. Although for some reason he was sure it was a different one from what he'd left from earlier, it didn't stop his excitement at the thought of going home. "I get to go home," he whispered excitedly.

It was strange. And... a bit funny, in a sense; the more the foursome advance, the more this insidious feeling festered in Amelie's mind. Even if she wanted, she couldn't understand, but the truth is that she just felt more and more sickened with each step she took.
The chipper conversation that the brothers and Rinji were holding at the moment was something that fell on deaf ears, at least regarding her; they were advancing, sure; yet... the brunette almost wished that the world would just stop on that very moment. Despite how much she tried, Amy just wanted to get out, and even began to visibly show signs of discomfort as they approached the unused station.
She stopped abruptly, gazed at the brothers, and then at Rinji. "I'm sorry, but... I can't do this." Lifting the In-Training gingerly, she proceeded to squeeze him tightly, then to extend him in Isaac's direction, so he could continue. "Take care, okay? I hope to have a safe trip, and that we'll see each other at some point." Just not right now, apparently.
Once the deed was done, Amelie just took a turn and began to leave the building, her feet carrying her at a pretty brisk pace.
With some luck, her new acquaintances would forgive her cowardice. Truth was that facing the unknown on such a scale was a daunting task at best, and utterly terrifying at worst.
And the sad truth was that... as much as she wanted to be happy for Rin-Rin, she just wasn't ready. [Exit Thread]

Huh. Flies existed in the Digital World? Elliot really shouldn't have been so surprised, but the comment still got his attention. "Didn't expect there to be, like, fly-flies. And not, you know, Fly-mon," he said. It really seemed like everything in the Digital World was a -mon of sorts. Then again, the grass wasn't Grassmon, and not every fish a Gomamon threw around was a Fishmon, so maybe there was some distinction? "This is gonna sound really silly, but what makes a Digimon a Digimon?" Hoo boy, Elliot, that is way too deep of a topic for this thread!
Then again, Elliot wasn't the only junior scientist here, especially with Isaac getting Rinji excited over the potential of visiting multiple other worlds. "You know, it's funny. Year or so ago I would've thought that's wishful thinking," Isaac said. "But finding out I can take a train to another dimension's kinda put that into perspective for me. I mean, if I can do that, can I really rule out the idea of us going to space?" The Digital World and human world may have been completely distinct entities, but was there really a way a secret of that magnitude could stay hidden forever? And once the two worlds came together, technology was going to get real weird real fast. Space travel within Isaac's lifetime could've been a distinct possibility.
But right now, the focus wasn't on going to new worlds. Now the focus was on going to worlds they called home. The four stood at the thresholds of adventure, ready to cross over and finally return Rinji to a life he kn-
Three. The three of them stood there. Isaac took Rinji, shooting Amelie a confused look, while Elliot stopped walking through the terminal and turned to her. "Wait!" he called out, wondering why she was breaking out into a run all of a sudden. "Where are you . . . I mean . . .
Thank you! For everything!" Elliot wished he had a chance to say that more properly along their walk. Amelie had hosted them, after all, and done so much to bring hope into little Rinji's life. She deserved better than having gratitude called halfway across a train station. However, he put as much energy as he could into shouting it out, figuring if he had to thank her this way he could at least do it right.
Isaac looked down at Rinji, smiling softly. "She'll be okay. I promise," he said, keeping his voice reassuring. "And trust me. I know she meant it when she said she'll see you again.
You ready?"

The little green Digimon was no scholar, but decided to give Elliot's question his best shot anyhow. "I always thought it was being able to digivolve," he suggested. "Digimon have always been able to do that. And maybe, uh... coming from Digi-eggs?" Keeping in mind that, as far as he knew, the size and shape of a digi-egg was pretty much standardised.
So was that really the difference between a digital animal and a digital monster? Rinji paused, as if remembering something from long ago. "Maybe it's origin too... some of the Digimon in Primary Village used to say that humans brought small creatures with them like flies a long time ago. But no one can prove it." The way he said it was reminiscent of an untested myth, but of course, who could prove such a thing?
Still, Rinji was excited. The conversation was good, he was finally able to go home, and he was surrounded by friends.
Until Amelie abruptly stopped. "Amy?" He asked tentatively as he looked up at her. Even as she said her goodbyes, handed him to Isaac and hoped they'd meet again, a look of sadness perpetuated the Chilomon's eyes. They'd only just met and yet.... there was a strong possibility they'd never meet again.
It was an inevitable they'd have eventually gone their own ways, but for some reason, the thought made something deep inside him ache longingly.
And the sad thing was, he didn't think he could remember the way to her apartment.
"Th-thank you..." Rinji mumbled as she turned to leave. Like a summer's day breeze, she'd gone as quickly as she had appeared. From saving him in the station, to leaving him back there, albeit in safe hands.
He looked up again, this time to Isaac's face. "I hope so," he replied quietly.
"And... yeah. I'm ready."
