The Great City: Opening [PLOT] [5/5]

Post by Toki Akiyama on Jul 18, 2018 20:40:38 GMT
There was something about these hieroglyphics that Toki didn't like. It told a story of subjugation and superiority. At least, to him it did. Some aspects about it seemed to confuse him. At first he thought the humans depicted were shown in a negative light as ruthless conquerors, which he wouldn't blame some Digimon for thinking. But if that were the case, why was the possible mechanism for opening the door in the form of three pairs of human hand prints? There had to be more to this than meets the eye. That Digimon and the pyramid were also concerning, but for now he wanted to focus on how everyone else was doing.
He found the Shoutmon's humor a little blunt, but appreciated. Sometimes that's what's needed to keep oneself calm in the face of trouble "I'll have to respectfully disagree...I don't think these are just drawings on the wall. Art, in all of its forms, has some story to tell and this is no different..." he mused as he walked alongside the group "If you're worried about what's ahead, just stay close and behind us. We'll do our best to keep you guys safe if you need us." he reassured the duo, but also respecting them enough to believe that they can also protect themselves and the group.
He thought about what Alice was saying "Well...my dad had adventures in the Digital World when he was younger. And considering how time works here I don't think it's that far-fetched for human signs to be in a place like this. Still, it doesn't change the fact that it is a little bizarre." he said. Toki found how Dorothy described their adventures a rather amusing contrast to Alice's more straightforward explanations "Well I'm glad you two are safe at the very least. I'd hate to be ambushed on this mountain."
He nodded at Akemi's observations "Yeah, I think you're on to something there. To me, there are several ways to interpret these, but none of them seem to be good. This place feels...ominous, for lack of a better word." he said. Anzu's antics brought a little smile to his face. He hoped dearly nothing would happen to anyone here.
He looked really happy to see Cion again "Oh, Cion! Good to see you. I haven't seen that form yet...I...can't quite gauge what stage it is..." though he did feel the immense power. "But it's definitely stronger than me." he said. "As for this door, let me just do this..." in a flash he reverted back to his human form "Might as well conserve my energy and only spirit evolve when I have to." he said, stretching a bit. He would join anyone else who would place their hands on the hand prints.

The comparison to early colonial America from Adrian makes Alice raise an eyebrow and smirk slightly. "Ah, so you're not from Japan? Me neither. Makes me wonder what brought you here." The green haired woman seems to agree with the comparison, watching her Digimon partner carefully. "I mostly came here for... Let's say inspiration." She holds her notebook tightly, the book obviously full of notes on the Digital World. "But yes, this place raises a lot of questions... How did the humans get here? How long have they been here? Are they really humans at all, or perhaps something that merely resembles humans?" It's clear that her interest in the ruins and their purpose is strong. "Well. I'm sure you've got a lot of interesting stories, just like me."
Dorothy mostly seems uninterested in the comments about it being dangerous, the Witchmon gently teasing the Shoutmon a little, a grin on her face. "C'mon, don't be a stick in the mud like Dork Queen is about things that aren't mysterious." She soon hops off her broom, and gives Alice a slight poke with the end, teasing her as well. "Her head's in that book more than anythin' else these days..."
Alice looks to Toki with a shocked expression as she hears his story about his father. "...Interesting. So technically, you're a second generation Spirit Warrior?" Her interest is soon dragged to the door, however, presenting a simple security measure to keep Digimon out. "I can't imagine how strange that must be..." With her attention focused on the black, hand covered door, she considers putting her hands on it until Toki does it before her, the green haired woman shrugging. "I can't imagine why someone would go through this impractical of a measure to keep intruders out..."
The witch Digimon, on the other hand, remains focused on Adrian and his Shoutmon, finding the pair a bit amusing, perhaps due to their occasional (or not so occasional) disagreements. "Gyahahaha, don't mind her, she's really into learnin' 'bout the Digital World. Says it's some kinda once in a lifetime opportunity 'n stuff like that. Figures that I have to bail her outta things when she's focused on somethin'. Meanwhile, she doesn't even know how she got me to Ultimate once..." Dorothy grumbles, as if she's disappointed in her own Tamer to some extent. "For a human, she's real weird by her own standards of normal."

As soon as the three humans placed their hands in the marks, a bright light would begin emanating from the other side of the door, revealing the bright destination that awaited everyone there.
For a second, the sudden influx of light would probably blind anyone unprepared as the giant doors opened in one quick motion, revealing nothing more and nothing less than an incredibly expansive field, only populated by tall blades of grass, their height being enough to reach the waist of the tallest human present. It was an idyllic panorama, even though that wouldn't last for long.
Not a instant after everyone crossed the threshold, the doors would suddenly close behind the group with a loud and quick slam, leaving the group more or less caged within this predicament.
"Welcome, foreign lifeforms." A deep, robotic voice echoed around the newcomers right after. "This is the automatic AI corresponding to the entrance of The Great City, designation H-4-G the Fifth. You've entered The Armory."
Exactly two seconds passed before the voice spoke again. "State your query."

Adrian got a few responses from his observations. Firstly, he turned to Akemi, with her comment about them being more like hieroglyphics. "Yeah, that term might work better... it's still telling a story through primitive drawings."
Then Alice commented on how Adrian must've not been from Japan. "No, actually, I am from Japan. My mother was just fascinated by western names, and I actually pay attention in World History class."
As soon as the light began emitting from the other side of the door, Adrian immediately removed his hand from the door in complete shock. The light almost immediately blinded Adrian and Shoutmon.
"AAAAAAAAUGH, MY EYES!!!" Shoutmon immediately screamed. "I CAN'T SEEEEEEE!"
When the light finally faded, the two were met with quite an amazing site: just an endless field of tall blades of grass. Adrian and Shoutmon would then slowly walk into this place with the others, only to find that the doors had shut before them.
"Welp, we're trapped," Shoutmon says. "Hope you all brought enough food!"
"Shoutmon..." Adrian says. "I didn't pack ANY food..."
"...please tell me you're joking."
Adrian didn't have time to respond to the red dragon as they then heard a robotic voice begin speaking to them! Apparently, they entered the Armory. "Armory... doesn't an armory have, like, weapons and gear? Not... tall blades of grass?"

"...Mostly really begs the question of how long has this existed, and how long ago did humans truly make contact." Akemi thought on it a bit before the doors actually -opened- in response to the three hands. Anzu took the screaming very...uh. Poorly. "AUGH! MY EARS! THEY BLEED DATA NOW CAUSE OF THIS RACKET." ...Wait, was she ACTUALLY getting pissed over screeching? Maybe.
Akemi, after recovering from a brief moment if having a lOT OF LIGHT IN HER EYES, was perplexed over the...contrasting field to what was outside. And that...voice said they were an AI? Like in the movies and stuff...? She didn't even realize they were trapped until...Once again, Anzu piped up. "Even if we had any food we'd be dead anyway cause we're stuck in here with whatever crazy things lie in this city! OOPS!"
"Holy SHIT you two are like children. Anyways...Stories on the wall aside...I don't think there's anywhere else to go but further in. Here's hoping there's more..." Akemi just swore. Oh no. She took a deep breath to calm herself before peering around. "Uh. Query: What's the armory?" Like HK-47. Would that suffice...?

Toki simply closed his eyes and stuck his index fingers in his ears when the light flashed and people started to scream, all while keeping his usual friendly expression. He chuckled a bit and adjusted to what had just happened. The scenery here was certainly beautiful, though how was this possible deep within a snowy mountain? Holograms, perhaps. Still, he would enjoy the beauty while it lasted.
In response to Alice's question, he pondered for a moment "Well, my dad was a Tamer, not a Spirit Warrior...but I'm certainly a second generation...what did some people refer to them as...Digidestined? Was that it? But yeah, second generation here that's for sure." he said as he rubbed the back of his head nervously for that awkward explanation. He shook his head at Dorothy "I don't mind her curiosity at all. The Digital World, for outsiders anyway, is a truly marvelous place to learn about. Most people can only dream of seeing this sort of thing outside of fiction. Besides, if you ask me, being normal is boring. I finally learned that after being here for some time." he said, his usual smile holding.
Toki frowned a little bit at the worry over a lack of food. He looked around through his backpack "It's not much, but if anyone needs anything, I have a little food for everyone, if you don't mind slightly squished rice balls, some jerky, or granola bars. Sadly, I only have a few bottles of water, but we can ration those out if we have to." he said, trying to keep spirits up.
Akemi brought something up that interested him as well. How long have humans been interacting with the Digital World? "How long have they been here and were they trapped here with no way to get home? Is that why they built this city?" he wondered. They really had no other choice but to push forward. Though he had his own question for the AI. Though what to ask? Eventually he decided on what could be the most useful question in the long run "Here is my query. What is the history of The Great City?" he asked. Hopefully the AI would be okay with this question.

Dorothy is temporarily blinded by the bright light to the point of almost shrieking, the witch covering her eyes and letting out a small hiss afterwards. "UGH! Can't see..."
Armory? AI? A field of long, tall grass that seems completely out of place? Alice takes a moment to just process what's going on. Of all things in the Digital World to encounter... And her first question was already asked by Akemi, no less. "...So let me get this straight. First there's evidence of humans, then there's a gate that requires human intervention to unlock... And then... This." In her mind, she speculates wildly. Is this some sort of prototype human colony that failed? An illusion? Some kind of experiment? All of them seem equally plausible to her, worrying Alice greatly. "...Truly a mystery."
Her attention is soon turned to correcting her statement about Adrian earlier, perhaps trying to take her mind off of the more grim concepts in her head. "Ahh... My bad. It doesn't matter if we're stuck here for now. We'll probably find a way out eventually. For now, I think getting out is the least of our worries..."
"C'mon..." Grabbing around for anything to get her bearings, Dorothy ends up grabbing onto Alice, and she grumbles, still getting used to the light. "What kinda dump is this?" Shaking her head a bit as she slowly gets adjusted to the brightness, she isn't aware she's grabbed right onto Alice's shoulders, grumbling at the little Tsukaimon. "Quit panickin', you'll only make things worse if ya get everyone else actin' like they're on fire." She suddenly asks the green haired woman a question after saying this. "If there are humans here, ya think I can pass for one if I ditch the hat?"
"...Do we really have to discuss this now?" Alice rolls her eyes, and looks to the others for a moment before stating something to the AI itself. "State your purpose."

Post by Cion on Jul 21, 2018 19:22:23 GMT
"Super Mega my dear - my final form but restrained. And don't put yourself down like that Toki. It's unbecoming, and I am confident you will reach this level of power in due time as well." Cion responded calmly to the spirit-wielder, always happy to show the lad a sincere smile and genuine words of encouragement and trust. The boy was a bit green, but that was of course an aspect to be expected from someone not too familiar with the digital realm for it is not his place of origin. And though kindness was naturally pleasant, the group likely had more important matters to attend to at the moment.
As the human among their ranks activated the mechanism of the giant gate, their destination quickly revealed itself to be a rather bright location. To the Arniomon's surprise, it was a grass-green field within the ground soil, which definetly seemed illogical, especially considering how expansive it was. As they entered, they became trapped, although the silver fennec kept her composure for she was certain that there was another way out. Still, she wondered if this was a trap of any kind. The sudden arrival of a synthetic voice did hardly alleviate that uncertainty.
With the matter of sufficient food put aside, young Mr. Akemi was the first to propose his query, which was a decent one. With all the mural, getting to comprehend the full extent of this 'city's' history was both interesting and valuable. However, Cion had bigger concerns she favored to make everyone aware of. "What is the reason the outside world entrance to this empty 'supposed armory' appeared? That and why the appearance was so... 'boomingly grandiose' for a lack of a better term." She asked, curious if the mechanical entity was willing to cooperate with them.

The AI would mechanically observe any and every newcomer. "Understood." It mechanically answered. "Your queries have been collected successfully and currently are being processed. Please wait a moment..."
There was a brief moment of silence before the voice resumed its speech. "Blonde human and red dragon; effectively, The Armory is housing most of the Great's City excess weaponry, as well as most of the outward recon and scouting devices."
Another small pause. "Brown haired human and flying mammal; as an addendum to what was mentioned earlier, The Armory is the outer portion of land leading to The Great City's entrance. Besides what was earlier described, its primary function is to test the will and resolution of anyone seeking to enter The City's confines."
By now, the small pauses between responses were more or less expected. "Lone brown-haired human; Data unavailable; the AI corresponding to The Armory wasn't tasked with keeping records on The Great City's history; your query must be stated to the main AI, D-4-T the Fourth. The best I can do is offer records of past visitors who have traversed The Armory, if requested."
Yet another pause, methodically employed as the next question was answered. "Green-haired human and demon man digimon. H-4-G the Fifth's main function is to monitor anyone breaching The Great City's outer confines and answer their queries to the best of my ability, then proceed to guide them back outside once they are ready to leave."
One last answer, at least until further queries were asked. "Lone digimon; The Great City's method of emergence is something that exceeds this AI. I have to inquire, however; is there any reason why The Great City wouldn't stand tall and proud? Anything less would be a disservice." A small, humming sound resounded for an instant as the second and third questions were being processed. "The reason why The Great City emerges periodically is to collect data pertaining the outside world and analyze if the city should fully emerge or return to dormancy. Your assumption is mistaken, however; The Armory isn't empty; your group hasn't advanced enough yet."
Once finished, the AI remained silent, as if expecting further queries to spring. That's usually what happened each time.

Adrian look kind of annoyed by the AI's response to his question, his mouth slightly going sideways and raising an eyebrow. "Yes, I know WHAT an armory is; but this place doesn't even look like an armory." It was then revealed that this particular Armory was a piece of land that, in fact, led to The Great City.
"The Great City?" Shoutmon asked. "Wait... do those hairographics on the walls back there refer to this city? Do other humans live here?"
Welp, Shoutmon's question wasn't going to be answered by this AI, apparently; they had to go and find ANOTHER AI that resided somewhere else to answer that.
After the AI was finished answering questions, even Adrian felt a bit uneasy by all of this. "Okay, I vote we figure out what the hell this place even is. All of this is giving me more questions than answers."
"Then why don't we go ahead? Let's see what this so called Great City looks like!"
"Not only that; we also need to find out who- or WHAT- made that explosion in the first place."

Interesting. So the five of them had stumbled into a sort of...gauntlet of sorts? Akemi held up a finger to shush Anzu while she thought on any further queries. Surprisingly she didn't pipe up. A data-collecting city that emerges periodically that also has a gauntlet to test those who wish to enter it.
"...I have the weirdest feeling that the explosion was caused by the city itself emerging...Oh. Query: Does the method of emergence involve blowing some rocks off the side of a mountain?"
She glanced at everybody else. "I say we proceed further in after it answers. If it does, at least...Then we'll probably learn more. Simple, yeah?"

Toki didn't necessarily have anything to ask further, especially if this AI wasn't able to answer what he viewed to be some of the more important questions. Actually, he did have one "Query: Why is The Armory so close to the entrance of the city? I'm not a master tactician, but doesn't that seem like a dangerous move in the event of a sudden invasion?" he asked. It did strike him as a bit odd.
Cion was once again being a beacon of encouragement, something that Toki definitely needed, though he was certainly embarrassed about needing it all the time. "Thank you. It's...exciting to think about when that time will come. Every totem I get, my spirit remembers more and more about himself. I assume once I reach the stage you're at he will remember everything." he said.
However, something the AI said bothered him when the others expressed interest in moving forward "If we move forward I think we should proceed carefully. It mentioned that it was meant to answer questions and guide people back outside when finished...I'm worried proceeding won't be as easy as taking a guided tour."
This whole place was suspicious. Why was this city hidden? Why is it showing up now? What was it capable of? He hoped he was just being paranoid and there was no real threat. Despite his worries, he stood tall and looked at those gathered, determined to help them get through this.

"I assume you're gathering data on us right now as we speak..." Alice takes a moment to consider this, a moderately uncertain expression on her face as she keeps Dorothy close to her. "Either way, this has got me curious... So, everyone. I think we should keep going, but I get the feeling we need to stick together." All these unknowns make her curious, but cautious. On one hand, a gold mine of new possibilities, but also incredible danger...
"And yes, Adrian. You're right. I want to understand what is going on here..." The green haired woman takes a few steps around in a circle, pacing as she thinks to herself. "Why hasn't it started testing us yet? Why is it waiting for us to continue?"
"You're sayin' that like it's not gonna break out a buncha guns 'n start shooting if we keep it waitin' too long." A response dripping with snark comes out of Dorothy's mouth, already seeming impatient and leaving her partner's side, prompting the green haired woman to follow her forwards. "Sides, y'all just keep asking questions without doing anything. That's boring, ain't it, Greeny? It told us to go further, 'n that's exactly what to do."
The green haired woman grins for a brief moment as she hears this. "Well, I guess that makes me leader, then? Follow me, don't fall behind. If anything comes our way, we'll all deal with it together. Is that clear?"
Floating over the slowly swaying grass, Dorothy only nods in agreement, her expression less enthusiastic than one might expect. "...Yeah, you heard her. Just don't let her be too pushy." The witch looks back to the rest of the group and decides to fall back a bit, and glance at the only lone Digimon among the group, the silvery, short fox Digimon making her a bit puzzled. "Great, once she's like this, she's probably not gonna stop until we find somethin' she deems worth it... What's your story, anyways? Seem a lil' outta place, but you know what they say about more people bein' merrier 'n stuff."

More questions, more queries that the AI seemed to take a couple minutes to process. "Understood." It repeated once again. This time, it took it notably less time to begin answering.
"Brown haired human and flying mammal; emerging implies replacing this mountain's current location with The Great City's. Your statement is partially accurate."
A small pause, then followed by another answer. "Lone brown-haired human; the purpose of the armory is for newcomers to experience The Great City's most basic weaponry. Invasions are a non-issue; no opponent can hope to match a fraction of The City's true might."
That statement had been told so naturally that it was undoubtedly what the AI believed. However, that's not where the words ended. "Advancing is encouraged and recommended. You will find a sample of what The Great City can offer about one-thousand meters ahead."
Undoubtedly, the AI wasn't lying. Once they had advanced enough, the sight would change drastically; the blades of grass were slowly replaced by metal plates; a thick wall blocked further advances, but as soon as they reached it, H-4-G would speak again.
"Your test lies ahead. Prepare yourselves before entering; further instructions await inside."

"Hey, someone actually agreed with you for once," Shoutmon joked as they continued onward, referring to what Alice said. This immediately caused Adrian to step on his foot, which in turn made Shoutmon yelp in pain. "Just ignore him..." Adrian tells Alice. "But yeah, we better get some answers." It was at this point where the Witchmon, Dorothy, was starting to get on Adrian's nerves a little. Still, if he can handle Shoutmon, he can DEFINITELY handle her. The AI's descriptions of the Armory and such made Adrian uneasy. Was the city THIS confident in its abilities that they feel like they can just put the armory out front? And if so... what if they chose to invade? "Is anyone else noticing the green starting to look... er... LESS green?" Shoutmon asked, noticing how the grass gradually turned into metal plates, and soon they approach yet another wall. "Well... should we enter?""We might have no choice... just in case though, you might need to Digivolve. Fire or water?" "Let's go with pure firepower!""Right..." Adrian would then get out his D-Arc Digivice. "Shoutmon, digivolve!" "Shoutmon, Digivolve to... SuperShoutmon!"The nice, happy-looking red dragon was now replaced by this:
