A Way Forward [Shade/Makoto]

The portal Toki had opened led to a gorgeous vista outside of the monastery walls. Brilliant white and blue flowers gently bobbed about in the gentle breeze. The whole area had a wonderful sense of tranquility and peace. It was slightly secluded from the rest of the isles, so it was an ideal place to get away from the stress of the world and rest. The main building loomed over them, several stories tall. It recently had several repairs and renovations done, but it still had so much history tied to it.
Toki smiled and turned to face Shade and Makoto "Welcome to Moonblossom Monastery, home of the Moonstone Travelers. Please make yourself at home. Pick a vacant room and call it your own for as long as you need to." He said with a warm smile.
Nearby, a small figure waddled out the front gate. A Lunamon that beamed as she saw Toki and the others "Toki! Welcome home!" She bounced towards the group and hopped up onto Toki's back. Toki laughed and brought her around to hug her "Aylin! Meet Shade and Makoto. They're interested in checking out the monastery." He explained. Aylin jumped down and waved to the two "Is that so? Welcome! My name is Aylin. I'm the daughter of the spirit that currently resides in Toki." She bowed "I hope you enjoy your time here."
As soon as introductions were made, Toki would lead the group into the main plaza of the monastery. Large open rooms with cushions placed for meditation and rest, carefully arranged gardens, and a large set of doors leading into the building proper. "This place holds a lot of memories, even for me...my first visit here wasn't exactly...ideal. But...Aylin and I have done our best to restore it to its former glory."

The blue portal was met with obvious distaste by the wraithgururumon. He had entered through similar ones that had led to him being lost in various locations. But this one was far more stable than anything he had experienced thus far. Past the one from syre at the start of his journey away from his most proper home after those in the dark area.
”Interesting. The peace and old happiness radiates off of this place like a waterfall. There has been much… positivity here.”
Shade blinked up at the structure; he suddenly felt very small and very strange in front of such an old building. The mon put a hand to his head and stared up at it; his silence after the fact was strange. Even further as the mon learned that he wouldn’t have to sleep outside. He’d blink a few times and before he could say anything another figure waddled out of the front gate. A small lunamon that was a myriad of scents he didn’t recognize outside of tokis. He’d click his teeth and lean this way or that.
”...Hello aylin. What are you? Shade has never met one of you before.”
This moonclad and strange being reminded him of a few things from the dark area but none of them were good. He didn’t feel like this mon was anything like those. He’d hum a bit and look around as they were led into the building proper. His ears flicked a few times and he’d inhale deeply through his nose.
The scent of battle, the scent of pain, the scent of many giving their all for something. There was a strange sensation and even stranger still the mon could just feel it in his bones. This place was so much more than just a simple monastery. What history did it have?
The mon placed a hand to one of the walls. Staring along it and mumbling to himself as toki explained that he and his friend have done their best to restore it to its former glory. A job that they should be admired for. He’d exhale slowly and turn to the trio.
”The strength and memories here are far more than any place in the dark area that shade can think of. What happened here?”

Makoto, initially, wondered what they should expect as they passed through the portal. It had been so long since they've been to the Blossom Isles before, after all; had the place changed at all? What was the Monastery that Toki called home like? What were the people who lived there as well like? There were so many questions that Makoto had - though they were all soon to be answered, they were sure.
For starters, the Blossom Isles that Makoto knew still seemed to be the same old - but the Moonblossom Monastery that they'd found themselves at in passing through the portal would be a rather beautiful sight. Whites and blues always looked so nice together - and it was no different here, the Renamon-X briefly having to pause to simply admire their surroundings, visibly awed at the tall building that stretched high above. They could easily see other people - digimon and humans alike - simply sitting under the tower's long shadow during a hot summer evening... Ah, this was such a nice-seeming place.
It was only when Toki and Shade both spoke up, that Makoto was snapped from their thoughts - glancing over to the duo, whom they smiled right back to. "It's quite a beautiful place, I must say - it's quite welcoming, as well. I can see why you've made this Monastery into your team's base, Toki darling." They'd speak up, smiling warmly. They'd soon lean in towards Toki though; and the glint in Makoto's eye made it clear that they were about to do another bit of flirting with the young man, but...
... Hearing a younger-sounding voice, Makoto would blink a bit in surprise to see a digimon - a Lunamon, to be exact - hop straight up onto Toki's back! Thinking that this digimon - Aylin - to be rather young, Makoto decided to save the flirting for later; instead straightening up and smiling warmly to the moon rabbit. It'd be inappropriate of them - in their opinion - to flirt with someone when there's youngsters around, after all.
Instead, as Aylin hopped down and introduced herself, Makoto would nod in acknowledgement - resisting the urge to pat the little Lunamon's head. "It's nice to meet you, dear - I'm Makoto, just as Toki said. I'm looking forward to taking a look around the Monastery, and to getting to know you all." Pausing to chuckle briefly, a gentle smile would cross Makoto's face as they commented "Monastery aside, though... You seem like quite the adorable and energetic little one, aren't you?"
There was an almost motherly hue in the way Makoto regarded the Lunamon; from the tone they used, to the warm and gentle demeanor they had. It was definitely different from how Makoto regarded Toki and Shade, to say the least. It was quite possible, that Makoto didn't realize just how old Aylin actually was!
As Toki soon led them through the gate and into the plaza though, Makoto would quietly regard their surroundings; obviously examining and admiring every little detail that the place had to offer. A gentle sway of their tails conveyed that Makoto felt content and at peace just by being here - it was hard not to, with the beautiful and calm vibes that everything seemed to give off. But, all the same... Makoto could see the age in the walls of this place. It had a history - even if they lacked the same ability to sense the emotions and memories of this place that Shade had, they could tell that much.
Once more, Toki's and Shade's voices would bring Makoto out of their thoughts; prompting them to glance over. As Toki mentioned his first visit not being the most ideal, a sympathetic hue would cross their face; though they smiled nonetheless, deciding it's not their business to pry into that first visit. "You and Aylin have done well; the Monastery is a beautiful place, and I can see that it has lots of history to it."

Toki stood by and watched their initial reactions to the monastery. He glanced at Makoto and braced himself for another wave of flirting, but thankfully Aylin's arrival gave Makoto some pause. He sighed softly, but continued to listen to the two of them to speak.
Aylin smiled and swayed back and forth idly as she spoke "It's very nice to meet the both of you Shade and Makoto. While we have some others staying with us, there is still plenty of spare rooms for the two of you to make your own, as Toki said!" She said before she looked at Shade. "What am I? I'm a Lunamon. I may not share in any of my father's forms, I still strongly represent the moon as he did. Has Toki shown you his evolutions?"
Toki shook his head slightly "I haven't shown them yet, but if they would like I can give a demonstration of what forms I can take. I don't really like showing off, but sometimes I really do like taking on a Digimon's form."
Aylin blushed at Makoto's praise "Aw that's very kind of you to say! I'm not as little as I look, but I appreciate your words all the same Makoto." She bowed her head in appreciation. The motherly affection from them was different, but not unwelcome.
Toki and Aylin both paused slightly and stared at each other for a moment when Shade asked about the history here. Makoto was curious as well. Afterwards, Toki began to speak "It's not a day I look back on happily. Aylin and I were on an expedition to the Isles when we got ambushed by one of Tsusagimon's old enemies along with their entourage. We were brought here, where they made their base. They...intended to use some technology they called the Siphon to transfer the data from my body to my spirit's core. That would...effectively kill me, and revive the spirit. If it weren't for some friends and allies...I could have very well died that day. My spirit was fractured during the process, but sacrificed his remaining sentience to repair itself, allowing me a chance to use his power again."
Aylin looked away, ashamed. "They were a Charismon. They manipulated my mind and picked at my insecure need to have my father back. I betrayed Toki in a moment of weakness...but..." She stamped her foot in defiance to this gloomy mood "He never gave up on me! H-he forgave me and I owe everything to Toki! I won't...I won't let him down again."
"Again?" Toki said as he reached down to pet her head "You've never let me down. You can't blame yourself for what happened, Aylin...I was never ever disappointed in you."
Aylin shivered slightly, barely keeping it together, but she gently hugged Toki's arm affectionately for a moment before letting him stand back up. "Thank you, Toki...th-thank you." The two of them were clearly very close, almost as if Toki was a surrogate father figure for Aylin at this point.
Toki looked at Shade and Makoto again "And now the Monastery is ours as it should be. It took a long time to repair it after the battles that took place here, but it was well worth it."

Shade didn’t know this placec too well; as beautiful of a place it was it made him wonder what sort of people were kept here. What sort of life they lived in comparison to those on the dark area island. He’d firmly frown and rub at his chin; looking thoughtful as those ‘logs’ from earlier rested on his shoulder.
Shade decided for the moment to remain silent and let the others talk some while he looked around. His ears flicking this way or that; he didn’t look too bothered by the talking and with Makoto saying that they did a good job repairing this palce made shade wonder… Just how much did they have to repair?
Aylin answered shade’s question; which didn’t really answer his question all too much. A lunamon? He hadn’t heard of that before and hearing that she didn’t share in any of her fathers forms didn’t surprise him. But hearing that toki hadn’t shown him any evolutions made shade blink slowly.
”...Those tied together strangely… But Shade thinks he understands.”
He’d furrow his brow and set down one of the logs so he could lean against it. Flicking his ears forward as Toki began to tell him about this place. Some old enemies and there was something about a siphon? A lot of the information was something he could barely understand. At the end he lost his spirits sentience and… Huh. That was a strange amount of experience in such a place. A charismon had manipulated her mind, made her think she needed her father and… toki without a doubt was locked into being a spirit wielder now. Which explained the comfort here.
Shade rubbed at his chin and turned his head to glance at makoto; unsure what they made of all this. He personally wasn’t bothered but… There was more he wanted to know about this place and the history these two had with it. There was much more than just that; there were painful memories and he could feel a pang of hunger rising from his champion form. Gnashing and clawing; wanting to get at those memories. He’d avert his eyes and stare at one of the walls; placing ahand on it and leaning so he could rest his head against it. Feeling the positivity and the light amount of negativity here really helped.
”Even the little bit of pain here isn’t enough to scuff the positivity. It is a good place and should stay that way. Can you show us where we can stay? Shade might be strong but he’d rather not carry around these logs if he doesn’t need to.”
With that said he’d heft one of the logs and furrow his brow; what else could he ask. They were being awfully forward with their answers and he couldn’t detect any lies among them. He’d grit his teeth and glance away; others were like that too… and they betrayed him. He was having a hard time settling with that thought barreling through his mind.
But their honesty if that was the case was endearing. Something he truly wished he could believe in completely. He’d have to be careful and would if he could take the chance to run if it turned otherwise… He didn’t like the idea of having to move again but… Searching for a home was very difficult. Shade was about to get into something else before he felt his stomach rumble in protest; he must have burned through what he had eaten earlier...
”...That and some food would be nice.”

As the subject of Toki's forms came up, Makoto would glance to the young man, before smiling gently. "I'd love to see your forms, though I understand if you'd rather not." They'd mention - tails swishing a bit as they added in suggestion "And... Though I'm not usually one to fight, I imagine that a friendly spar will be in order, once I've settled down?" If they are going to be traveling once more, it was likely that they'd need to be ready and able to fight once more as well; and they wouldn't be surprised, if they had gotten rusty, after being so idle and docile for so long. "If you're willing, at least, Toki dear."
On top of that though, they were also curious to see what Toki's forms would be like. Given Aylin being a Lunamon, and having introduced herself as the spirit's daughter, yet saying that his forms were different... Makoto wondered just what sort of forms Toki had. Was he able to become a rabbit digimon like Turueimon or Antylamon? Or was he some other form of lunar digimon? Or was he even a rarer or more unique sort of digimon altogether? All of them were possible, until they got to know him more; Toki and Shade both were quite curious, and the curiosities only continued.
However, Aylin would soon clarify herself to not be as little as she looks. And given how her father was a spirit now, which likely meant he was rather long lived... A sheepish hue would wash over Makoto, their tails slightly puffing in embarrassment. "Ah..." Letting out a similarly embarrassed chuckle, the Renamon-X would straighten up, bringing their tails around them to fix their fur, claws combing through. "I apologize, darling. I shouldn't have assumed," They'd mention to Aylin; their smile gentle and warm, even if still sheepish. "I still admire the energy and youthfulness that a young lady such as yourself has, though."
But before long, Shade would inquire about what all had happened here - which Toki and Aylin would both explain, telling of the strife and potential tragedies that went on here some time ago. It seemed that recalling it brought down Aylin's mood, and it certainly seemed that Toki had been through a lot himself - but... They had, in the end, both survived everything that had gone down that day. Though they could offer a gesture of comfort, or words of sympathy... Makoto had a feeling that they'd risk being tone deaf if they spoke up without having been there to witness it themself; and so they'd instead give Aylin and Toki both gentle pats on the shoulder in comfort.
To see Toki and Aylin both share some brief affection soon afterwards brought a smile to Makoto's face though - prompting them to comment "You two seem very close, like family; it's rather endearing to see, I must say." with a soft chuckle. No need to dwell on the bad memories, they figured; it's all in the past, after all - and much like Shade said, there was plenty of positivity and good memories to be found and made here.
However, that being said, Shade would also ask about where they'd be staying, as well as where they could get some food. Makoto would nod in agreement, mentioning "I'd enjoy getting to look around the monastery, myself; if this will be my home-away-from-home for awhile, I'd love to familiarize myself." with a smile. "It's such a beautiful place, by the way - you've both done well to repair everything and make it your own."

Toki smiled warmly "I wouldn't mind if it's something everyone wants to see, so I suppose I'll start from my lowest stage and go up from there. In a moment, though." He said with a slight nod. He noticed Shade's moment of discomfort, but what he said next made Toki assume that he was going to be okay for the time being. "Just step through the gates and leave the logs just past them. We'll transport them to a storehouse later. No need to carry those longer than you need to."
As the group walked forward, he tilted his head slightly at Makoto's offer for a spar later "A spar? Well another goal of mine is to help others realize the strength that they have...if that would help you, then I would be glad to spar later."
Aylin smiled softly at Makoto, not at all insulted by the assumption "Oh, you don't have to apologize, Makoto! You didn't say anything wrong! There are worse things to assume about someone." She said with a small laugh.
The two of them appreciated Makoto's gesture of comfort. They brought their hands to meet theirs. Toki sighed and smiled "Thank you, Makoto." He said to them. He blushed slightly as they mentioned that he and Aylin seemed to have a familial connection "W-well..in a way we are like family. My spirit was her father...so I've started to feel that familial bond that he once had with her." He said bashfully.
Aylin also seemed a little flustered, but was definitely delighted. To feel that comforting presence from someone again was for sure very welcome. "In a way, I did get my father back...b-but in a way that didn't hurt anyone. I'll always be grateful for that."
Toki gestured towards the building in front of them "Once you enter the monastery, the bedrooms will be to your left. Like I said before, take one that's vacant and call it your own. There's plenty of room. If you head right, you'll find our library, though it's in the process of being restocked. My room is on the second floor, and above that is quite the sight. A beautiful cliff side with a single tree. Perfect for meditation. As for food...we've got lots to choose from in the storehouse and kitchen. We'll get dinner going soon! Is there anything the two of you prefer?"
Then, Toki realized he completely forgot about showing his various spirit forms "As we head forward, I'll share my spirit forms." He said with a slightly nervous laugh. He took out his Digivice and swiftly scanned the data that appeared in his free hand. In a quick flash, Toki reappeared as Turuiemon. The Rookie level spirit was slightly shorter than Toki himself and instead of the bladed gauntlets were a pair of gauntlets more suited to striking.
Toki stretched a bit "I could stay in this form as long as I want if I really had to." He said, clearly acclimated to it. In another flash, he took on his next spirit. The Champion level Antylamon was much shorter than the usual Ultimate counterpart, but was still slightly taller than Toki was. "Apparently Antylamon are usually Ultimate level...I don't think we'll ever really know what influenced my spirit's odd evolutionary line. From here...it becomes more unique." He said.
Next up, the Beast Spirit Lagosmon stood, hunched over as they were entering the main building of the monastery. The large rabbit Digimon thankfully had room to stand relatively straight once they were inside. The main entrance was large and open, tatami mats firm underfoot. It looked ideal for holding meetings, training, and even dueling granted the digimon were small enough for it.
The brown furred, scarred rabbit Digimon looked back at the others "I hope it's to your liking. If you have any suggestions on decoration, please feel free. I want things to be comfortable for everyone." He bowed his head slightly before another digivolution took place.
This next form was Toki's most frequent form in many missions nowadays, the floating, peaceful ZenCherubimon. The gentle smile and closed eyes gave a sense of calm that almost radiated from the form's very being. "It...still exhausts me to go beyond this form, but for the sake of this, I will do my best."
With one more digivolution, Toki took on Tsusagimon's form. Clad in comfortable robes and a look of pure serenity, the hammer at his side dissipated into stardust as he had no need of it. "This was his most powerful form in the end. Emotionally it's still...difficult to take this form considering this was how I last saw my friend and mentor. But I'm okay...come, let's think about dinner." He said and with a gentle wave of his hand guided them to the back of the first floor, where a spacious dining hall was located.
Aylin followed closely, admiring how far Toki has come in regards to his mastery of his different forms. While it was indeed straining to hold Tsusagimon's form for extended periods of time, the fact that he wasn't fighting let him focus on it a little easier. "Father was an amazing fighter and teacher. Humble...always knew when to accept help and understood his imperfections. So many could learn from his example. Accept yourself, your limitations, and seek those to support and who will support you in return."

Shade wasn’t sure what to think of the young man and his forms; or supposedly the forms he could take. The wolf tilted his head to one side; staring at him with a curious air about it. He had to wonder what exactly they’d be; what sort of powers they had and what level of strength he could even go to.
The same could be said of Aylin and Makoto; what were their abilities like? Their powers? It made him seem a bit brooding as he thought these over; someday maybe he’d find out in terms of powers but it wasn’t entirely what he was supposed to be focused on at the moment.
”It’s very calming here.”
He’d have to admit to this fact along with that it was indeed beautiful. It was unlike the dark area, unlike the forests he had been hiding in. And very much so unlike the frozen north where everything seemed out to get you. For once he wasn’t forced to look over his shoulder at every waking moment too. It brought a little smile to the wolfs lips.
”Go ahead and show us toki. Shade doesn’t mind.”
He’d give a small nod and placed those logs next to the gate; it was much better and now all he really had to worry about was the bundle of furs that he had with him. But those were negligible. His eyes flicked from Aylin to toki and eventually rested on makoto; a hearty and comfortable rumble rolling through his throat. The idea of a spar was actually nice… Usually he wasn’t for it given that it just felt like wasted energy but. This wasn’t the case; they had ample food and a safe place to rest.
”Shade would like to watch; or perhaps even join on a later date in said spar.”
He had to think about what he wanted in all of this; uncertain how sparring would do anything but pass time for him. But he wasn’t giving that much thought as they walked forward. Bedrooms to the left; just take on and it’s yours… Then there was a library to the right but it was needing more books. Shade had never been one to read much but if he was given the opportunity…
Then toki’s room was on the second floor; overseeing a beautiful cliff side view. With a single tree? Meditation? The wolf blinked and rubbed at his chin. Another thing he wasn’t really apt for; he didn’t really go for that sort of stuff. Preferring hunting or doing something that could yield results for him physically later. His eyes traced over toki’s initial form. It was a short rabbit; one that he had never seen before. It earned a few inquisitive headtilts and he’d growl lowly.
”Shade prefers meat. Or something with a good feel to it. Fullness he thinks it’s called?”
Seeing the antylamon next however made Shade physically flinch and step back; he was fully aware of those. There were a few of the evil sorts in the dark area that were very territorial. But this one seemed a little more gentle than they; prompting shade to nod his head to them.
”Shade doesn’t really know what your first one was. Never seen it before. But there were plenty of the grumpy looking rabbit types of your… Antylamon? Though they usually had red eyes and erm… were very aggressive.”
Seeing the main entrance and all that it had to offer the wolf mon shifted, looking around and tugging at one of the mats. He didn’t really know what these things were made out of. He looked really curious about them and glanced up at Toki as he spoke again.
”Shade is used to wall carvings, furs and making nests of sorts. This is a huge improvement for him. It will take much time for Shade to figure out anything that could improve on this but he will tell Toki friend when he thinks of them.”
The next digivolution made Shade’s jaw drop just ever so slightly; there was the floating peaceful form of ZenCherubimon. He could feel the energy from it and it made him just a touch nervous. Shifting from one foot to the other; many times when he ran into digimon of mega or above he ran. There was no question of it. He had never been that strong or at least he hadn’t been during his actual accessible memory.
”...Very powerful. Dangerous. In the wilds Toki friend would be unquestionably in control of his own turf.”
Shade shivered a bit and after the last digivolution shade had to physically distance himself from toki. By at least a good twenty feet. Even going so far as to try to stop him from hiding behind a wall or something. He’d grit his teeth and have to smooth down his fur. Such strength! Even though the other was definitely a gentle giant the strength of the one in front of him made shade question his own quite a few times over.
”. . .”
Hearing that this was the form that his mentor took made shade wonder how exactly all of this truly went down. What sort of memories and emotions must have been shared during that. He’d grit his teeth and slowly follow after the pair. His discomfort was physically apparent as every part of him screamed not to follow.
”...A very strange way of thinking. But shade… understands that.”
He sounded a bit pained saying these, but was it because he was uncomfortable? Or was there something more to it. He even was avoiding looking at toki for the moment. Having to try to deal with his bundle of instincts which was the reason he was still alive trying to force him to act irrationally.
”...This place is great so far. But shade has to wonder why he’s never heard about it till now? Sure he's been... out of what one could call the loop but even in the dark area we heard whispers of strange locations or powerful places.”

As Toki agreed to a spar later, Makoto would smile and nod. "Much appreciated, darling." They'd respond - continuing "As much as I don't think myself much one for fighting - it's been a long time since I've really last stretched my muscles - I imagine I've gotten pretty rusty since. I'd like to be ready, if I do ever have to get into a fight, now that I'm taking to traveling once more." In fact, how long had it even been since they'd last evolved to Champion? Hopefully they didn't forget how to digivolve!
(The last notion, though, would make them chuckle to themselves softly. Digivolving, typically, came as second nature to a digimon; so they doubted they'd forget how to digivolve anytime soon..!)
Shade, too, would mention his interest in watching or joining in these spars - to which Makoto smiled in his direction. "I'd be happy to have you around, Shade darling." They'd respond, chuckling softly. "Getting to stretch my muscles and show off with the both of you dears would be great, really~!" How might they react, to some of the tricks this old fox had up their sleeve?
Well, either way, as Aylin and Toki brought their hands up to meet Makoto's own, the Renamon-X would smile warmly; giving both hands a brief squeeze. Spirits, and their effects on the humans they bond with, was a fascinating concept - though it wasn't a concept that Makoto knew all that well, admittedly. "I'm happy to see the both of you can share such a bond, dears." They'd speak with a gentle nod, before stepping back to give the two their room.
Admittedly, it made Makoto a hair melancholic, in thinking of their own mother... Though they wouldn't dwell on those thoughts; now wasn't the time for that.
Instead, there was the tour and explanation of the different sections of the monastery - to which Makoto would listen closely, visibly curious. A cliffside with a view, plenty of living space, a library... Already, they had a feeling they'd be lurking around the library semi-regularly, given their appreciation for reading! And as for dinner, well... "Hmm... I'm not a picky fox; though I - admittedly - tend to gravitate to meat, like darling Shade does." They'd begin, tapping their chin thoughtfully. "Although I also like rice and potato dishes - which, rice and potatoes might fit the bill for being filling for Shade - and savory or salty flavors."
Though, Makoto would also speak up of something else. "By the way, dear... Is there any way we could help, with restocking the library or making dinner? I might be more of a baker or confectioner than a cook, though I'd worry myself half to death if I just took you up on your hospitality without pitching in even a little!" They'd laugh with this remark; clearly joking about how they'd worry themself half to death, but otherwise genuine in their intent to help.
And before long, Toki would show off each of his forms - starting with Turuiemon, which Makoto would look over curiously; nodding in acknowledgement as Toki mentioned how he could easily stay in this form. It was a given that a digimon can stay in Rookie for as long as they want - was it different, for novice spirit users?
Next, was Toki's Antylamon form - which Makoto would look up and down with visible curiosity. "Some species vary in stage - it happens from time to time." Makoto would comment with a gentle shrug and a smile in Toki's direction, as he commented on how Antylamon are usually Ultimates.
As Shade commented on not knowing what Toki's first form was though, Makoto would glance in his direction. "That first form was a Turuiemon; they're typically the Champion stage for Antylamon." They'd explain - patting Shade on the back in a reassuring fashion, at noting how the wolf had flinched before.
Toki would next take on his Lagosmon form as they entered the monastery, to which Makoto would look over this unique form with a notable amount of curiosity - given that they'd never seen any other digimon with a form like this before. When he indicated the entrance room though, and mentioned suggestions with decorations, Makoto would look about with a gentle hum. "Off the top of my head, I can't think of any particular suggestions; blues and whites go very nicely together, and I like the humble look to this place." They'd muse out loud, visibly in thought now. "I'll be sure to speak up, however, if anything comes to mind."
Toki's next form would be ZenCherubimon, however - and it seemed that the presence of a Mega was enough to bring Makoto to a pause, as well as Shade. The wolf, however, seemed more antsy than Makoto was - and the Renamon-X would, once more, reach over to pet Shade's back in an attempt to soothe him...
... until Toki, finally, digivolved into Tsusagimon. For a Rookie who could only reach Champion, Toki's presence in this form was a heavy weight on Makoto's senses - a pressure that one would expect of a powerful Digimon, for sure. Even they had to take a step back and suck in a deep breath, as they had to acclimate to that aforementioned pressure.
Poor Shade, though; they could see that he was having a hard time adjusting to the Super Mega's presence... Slowing their steps to fall in alongside him, Makoto would hold and squeeze Shade's hand to try and reassure him, offering him a gentle smile. "You okay?" Makoto would whisper to him - checking up on the much larger WraithGarurumon.
As Aylin spoke about her father, and the lessons he embodied, Makoto would smile and nod to her as well - murmuring "Wise words to live by, I would say." with a warm hue.

Toki gave a small nod to Shade "The calming tranquility the monastery offers is one of my favorite aspects of it. I want people to feel at ease and safe here. If their minds can be at ease for even a moment, it has done its job admirably." He said as he placed a hand on one of the pillars. "This place was a home for Tsusagimon and his students for a long time. I hope to bring those days back for a new generation of humans and Digimon."
It seemed even Shade wanted to participate in the possible sparring match, to which Toki smiled encouragingly "When the time comes, it should be enjoyable." His mannerism and voice were somehow more calming than normal. Some of Tsusagimon's personality and teachings were passed on to Toki, but he had long since stopped worrying over his identity. He was Toki, but he was also partially Tsusagimon. At this point, he was okay with that. It saved his life and the lives of others on multiple occasions.
His returned his focus to the conversation of food as he chuckled "Oh dear, listen to me ramble. I'll have a variety of food prepared for dinner so everyone will be able to eat their fill."
He frowned slightly at Shade's description "The Antylamon you describe are the Virus variant. Mine is Data. My first form is known as Turuiemon, the usual Champion form of the normally Ultimate Antylamon. There's a unique...duality to the Antylamon line. A duality that Tsusagimon apparently embraced with the creation of ZenCherubimon."
Shade was clearly intimidated by Toki's stronger forms. Intimidating wasn't a word he liked to use to describe himself, but he couldn't control how others viewed him. While he viewed himself as a peaceful person, the aura of strength he gave off could easily be off-putting. "I apologize, Shade. If you would like, I will revert to my human self if it would be more comfortable for you."
Makoto's worry about taking advantage of Toki's hospitality didn't go unnoticed "If there's anything you wish to do, then I'm sure we have plenty of ingredients to make a nice dessert! Please do not feel obligated to do so, but I'm sure your assistance, however you wish to provide it, will be appreciated." He bowed his head "As for the library, I would be interested in having anthropological studies on the various Digimon cultures...arrange them with humanity's anthropology as a way to compare, contrast, and understand each other."
Even Makoto was slightly pressured at the sight and presence of Tsusagimon. He did his best to give the two of them the gentlest smile he could before he guided them to center of the main room. He picked up four cushions from a drawer and placed them in a square pattern at the center under the moonlight. He and Aylin knelt down on two cushions and invited them to sit on the other two "Our stages matter not. We're all equal here and I will not allow anyone to say otherwise. The both of you are as valued and precious as anyone else."
Aylin chimed in "That's been a long standing belief of myself, Toki, and father. A Mega, or even Super Mega is as equal as a Rookie in the grand scheme of things. At least, in our point of view. Character is what matters."

Shade’s eyes flicked over to makoto as they spoke; they weren't one for fighting? How did they survive out in the wilds if that was the case? There was a growing look of concern for her that stopped once they said that end bit. So maybe they had managed to settle down somewhere where they could be comfortable? It could explain a few things; but that didn’t just seem right to him. Maybe just maybe… the world outside of the dark area wasn’t as vicious as it was.
”Shade really never has had the chance to spar. It will be a welcome change.”
He’d rub at his chin as they walked around; staring at the various locations and such as they went. It was a pretty straightforward place really; which would mean that finding his way around wouldn’t be difficult. He’d flick one ear towards makoto as they also piped in that they preferred meat much like he did. Which gained a small chuckle. Potatoes and rice were a delicacy for him given they required time to grow. Something that he’d agree with whole heartily.
”Stuff like rice and potatoes are rare for shade to eat. So he would welcome it fully.”
Shade paused to consider how he could help to refill the library or make dinner; the former would be difficult no? Something that would take some serious effort? He knew of a few ruined places in the dark area… that weren’t overtaken by the red the last time he had been there. Hearing that the antylamons he had known about were virus types made shade cock his head to one side; so there were variants of that line? Were there variants of other lines?
Feeling makoto’s hand patting him on the back made it a little less problematic for the early forms. It had surprised him! A being that had never really seen a spirit user; only ever hearing about them. The mega digivolution had startled him quite a bit and his hesitancy to continue must have been rather obvious given that makoto was still trying to support him.
Then the last part was definitely a call for concern. He had to hide; it was something that just was resounding in his mind and in his eyes. He’d turn his head to makoto and sighed softly. It was hard to fight against instincts. The soft squeezing of his hand was returned and he’d shake his head.
”Shade is used to having to run from people of that strength. It is hard to get rid of instincts screaming to stay away. Creatures of that strength were also responsible for why shade had to flee from the dark area in the first place. But rather than being overwhelmingly strong and diabolical in nature Toki’s digivolutions are a lot calmer. But still very unnerving… If toki can Shade would appreciate it. Else it might be a… bit difficult for him to keep going for now.”
Shade knew that toki wasn’t a threat to him; not unless he truly wanted to be. Rubbing at his face he’d move to one of the pillows, taking a seat on it. It was surprisingly comfortable and hearing aylin pipe in with the last part Shade paused.
”Shade never had to worry about grand scheme of things; it was always day to day. Being able to think like that was because it’s either peaceful or you were strong enough to be allowed that sort of manner of thinking. Or both. It will be hard to think differently shade thinks; at least at first.”
He’d shake his head slowly and drum his fingers on either side of him; looking a bit more uncertain of himself. He’d grit his teeth and then sigh.
”But if it’s peace that shade is able to get here shade would very much so like to stay as long as he can. It’s not often that you find a place like this; with open arms no less.”

As Shade squeezed back, Makoto would nod in understanding and attempt to offer him another smile of sympathy - although it was clear that it was a hair strained, with the pressure of Toki's presence as a Super Mega. His signal was powerful - just as powerful as one might expect someone of his stature to be - and though Tsusagimon's tranquil demeanor helped in Makoto remaining calm, it still made their fur stand on end slightly at the sheer disparity in their strengths.
Shade, similarly, seemed to be well intimidated and ready to get away, and they honestly couldn't blame him. It was good to hear that Toki would be willing to devolve, for their sakes, though.
The subject of desserts coming up next, however, would prompt Makoto to perk up a bit; ears pricked. "Welll~ I am a bit of a confectioner - although I imagine you're thinking more of baked goods than candy, when you say dessert." They'd muse with a chuckle, tails swishing, before continuing "I'd be happy to whip something up for all of us, though." With that, Makoto would glance between the three - Toki, Aylin, and Shade - and ask them all "Are there any particular requests or preferences, as far as sweeter foods go? I'm pretty good with baked goods as well~"
Making sweets like candy was Makoto's personal preference - they've always found it quite easy to make in bulk, and candy is easier to share with others on the go than it was to share, say, cake or pie. But baking was a nice hobby as well, even if sometimes a bit messy. Perhaps they could do something like a sheet cake, depending on what the others request? They'd have to see what all the kitchen has to offer...
... Although one thing was for sure; those living in this monastery would need to be prepared, for all the sweets Makoto would be making for them!
As they made their way into the main room proper, Toki would bring out cushions for them to sit upon - which Makoto would smile and nod to the young man in appreciation, kneeling on a cushion as well. Were Aylin not here, and were Makoto feeling bold, they might've attempted to sit closer to Shade or Toki - but for now, they'd behave.
Instead, they'd listen curiously as Toki and Aylin spoke up about their beliefs, regarding how all are equal regardless of stages. Shade, too, would speak up in response to speak his own thoughts over these beliefs - to which Makoto smiled gently; patting his knee in an encouraging fashion, when he showed a brief moment of uncertainty.
Before long though, they would speak up as well - mentioning "I agree. Stages don't dictate our worth as living beings." with a gentle nod. "Our attributes and fields shouldn't affect one's worth, either - be they Virus or Vaccine."
Though, that being said... There was an inherent imbalance in power, that one couldn't deny, even if rookies and megas have the same worth. Makoto wouldn't voice this, though; as it was something that even they weren't entirely sure on, and it didn't strike Makoto as being relevant to the conversation. Things like this were complicated, after all; and it was clear that Toki's intentions were good, as far as they were concerned.

Toki bowed his head politely as his body shined brightly. The data dispersed as he returned to his human form. After a deep breath to collect himself, he smiled "Just as well. I shouldn't stay in that form longer than I have to, anyway. It's very straining to do so even if I'm not fighting." He explained, hoping that this would give Shade a little more peace of mind.
He pondered what Shade had said about him being allowed his manner of thinking. Was it truly because it was peaceful or because he was strong enough to be allowed it? He scratched his chin "You may have a point there. Strength affords people many things. Unfortunately so. But that's part of why I want this team to succeed. We'll be the strength that affords others the peace they need to become strong themselves. Strong in mind, body, and spirit. There are those who would call this endeavor naive or unrealistic, but is it really? Is it really so unbelievable for people who are strong to use their strength for others? To give them hope? Courage? Maybe even inspire them to be strong too? I don't think it is." He said with a smile.
He looked over at Makoto "That's perfectly fine! That sounds amazing, Makoto, thank you. We should have plenty of supplies for whatever you'd like to make for us. I'd say surprise us, we're not too picky about what we eat."
Aylin nodded "I'm sure whatever you make will be delicious! I look forward to trying some of your food." She said happily. "Good food really helps ease the mind, if only for a moment, so I'm sure everyone will appreciate what you can bring to the table, so to speak!"
As Toki adjusted to his human form again, he knelt back onto the cushion. He nodded at Makoto "Exactly. People are people. We can't control what we are when we're born, so why judge based on that? It's petty arrogance to think someone is worth more or less due to what 'type' of person you're born as."
"Power is a tricky thing. Many misuse it in order to feel superior or controlling to other people. In the end, can that even be called power? Probably, but I don't see it as such. True power is using it to defend those who can't fend for themselves." He said, clarifying more of his beliefs. "Anyway, that's enough serious talk. The kitchen is further back on this floor, so let's go see what we can do."
Toki and Aylin would stand up and guide the group over to the kitchen. It seemed they invested in a refrigerated room to store things that could spoil, which was a good move. "There's plenty to choose from. Aylin and I will get out plenty of cookware to work with." He said as the two of them brought out many different pots, pans, and measuring implements.

Shade returned the smile that makoto gave him; though it was strained for the moment it’d ease up when toki shifted down to his human self. Seeming to agree for the moment and even adding that he shouldn’t stay to that form for longer than he needed to. Which meant to shade that he needed… Well to work on that. Or at least that there was still things that such a strong individual still had to work on in general. Something that made shade think of his own strength for a moment.
”Thank you.”
Was all that he really could say to that; he’d turn his attention to makoto as they spoke about the deserts. Did he have any preferences? The wraithgururumon scratched at his nose; there were the demidevidrops that he enjoyed; a particular spicy candy that was all the rage among virus types and was also something people loved back in the dark area.
”Shade is a fan of the spicy demidevidrops. He isn’t sure what they’re called on the mainland though.”
Shade’s eyes flicked to toki and he’d furrow his brow; strength did afford a lot of things to various people and it was something that shaped the world one way or another. While he agreed that there was more than just physical strength his way of thinking was very difficult to change.
But hearing both makoto’s input as well as toki’s made the large wolf sit there in silence. Reflecting on what they brought to the table so to speak. Shade blinked when he felt that hand on his knee and he’d shoot a small smile at makoto.
With more being said shade couldn’t help but wonder quietly to himself if he had misused his power at any point. Pausing at the entrance of the kitchen for a few moments. It was something he admitted to himself that he had done; he had used his own abilities to carve out many a location for himself and had used it to feast upon various emotions or memories of rookie mons while in the dark area. Was it something that he regretted?
Not really. Which bothered him far less than he felt that it should have. The wolf looked about the kitchen, prodding different bits of equipment; checking the various pots and pans… measuring implements. The wraithgururumon didn’t recognize the numbers that were on the sides of them… and with such a large refrigerated area the wolf couldn’t help but pick through that as well.
Eventually he’d settle at the stove and microwave, inspecting them and even playing around with the buttons on the microwave that would beep at him. A brow raising slowly; his place in whitewater had something similar but it had a bunch of timers on it instead. And the stove was just the sort you’d expect from a one bedroom bachelors apartment…
”Funny beeping box and strange looking big heat box. What do all these numbers mean? Shade has never seen either...”
To also be fair, shade’s way of cooking required an open flame. A stick and some meat… In which he would go so far as to muss around with the stove, squinting at it as it didn’t seem to do what he was hoping...

As Toki returned to his human form, the pressure on Makoto's senses would lighten - allowing them to exhale in relief, and relax a little. "Thank you, darling." They'd murmur alongside Shade - offering a smile to Toki and adding "I still appreciate you showing your forms to us, even if it the last one did overwhelm us a little. It is quite impressive and beautiful though, to say the least."
At Shade's mention of spicy demidevidrops, though, Makoto would tap their chin with a thoughtful hue. "Spicy DemiDevidrops; I think I've heard of them, though I've never had one... I imagine it uses cinnamon; that's the typical common flavor for spicy candies." They'd guess, with the context given, before glancing over to Shade with a smile. "I'll look into them sometime, and make you plenty of homemade spicy candy once I figure out a good recipe; how's that sound, dear?"
And there was the talk of strength, and peace, which Makoto would ponder over Toki's words with a gentle hum; a smile soon crossing their face. "... I think that it's plenty reasonable, to want to have hope, and to want to share that hope with others around you. Even digimon can easily be brought down by negative emotions and despair - be it their own, or the emotions of those around them." They'd respond, expression soft. "We all need a little happiness in our lives - we all need something that lets us relax. Else, we'll just become miserable - and a common response to feeling that way, is to have others around you share in that misery, and to believe that happiness is further away than it truly is."
Before too much longer though, the lot of them would soon decide to make for the kitchen, which was quite sizeable and well-stocked, from the looks of the things. With the variety of cooking ware and the like, they couldn't help an excited swish of their tails; eyes lighting up eagerly, as they looked about. Ohhhh, could they fit a heating table in here? They'd always seen handmade candy shops use them for shaping the candy without it cooling too quickly - especially when making larger batches - so it made them wonder just how much candy they could make with one, but...
Ahhh, they were getting sidetracked! Briefly, Makoto would pat their own cheeks to get themself back in the zone - just in time to see Shade playing around with the microwave. Oh dear - did he not know how to use a microwave or stove? Stepping over to make sure that Shade wouldn't accidentally burn himself or rack up Toki's power bill, they'd mention to the larger Wraithgarurumon "Let's hold off on messing with them for now, Shade darling. I'll teach you how they work and how to use them later, okay?"
