Exploring the City (Agumaru)

It was a lovely - and busy - day in Terminus City. Digimon of all shapes and sizes travelled around this bustling city, and Adrian and Shoutmon were no different.
The two only ever visited Terminus to visit its mall, to buy things like the D-Arc, or that hovercraft that Adrian had just recently bought. Today, they wanted to thoroughly explore the city to its fullest.
And of course, all Shoutmon wanted to do was find places to eat. Typical.
"Come on, Shoutmon, there's more to this city than just food," Adrian tried to tell his Digimon partner. "We can get something to eat later, but let's explore other places first."
"Ugh, fine," Shoutmon says, giving in, "but let's not take too long please! Let's go visit a music store or something!"
"Okay then," Adrian nods. As the two walked along the streets of this city, it became apparent to him that he was the only human in this city currently... and none of these faces looked too friendly...

Time for a break. All this hard training has worn Agumaru down, a trip to the city should help. But of course, the nearest one was Terminus City. A great city, no doubt, one of the best - but also one with Digimon that aren't always the nicest. Last time he was here, he was made fun of for not being the best Agumon. He just hope he runs into friendly faces, like...
"Shoutmon and Adrian!" He runs over to the pair, a large smile taking up most of his face. He pulls the two of them in for a group hug - then lightens up, remembering the crushing squeeze Shoutmon suffered from Miyu. "How you guys doing? It is nice to see you again! Have you been well?"

"Ugh, disgusting..." Adrian groans as he steps in a discarded ice cream cone. "I get that this city is big, but still, wouldn't it hurt to clean SOME of it up?"
"Apparently it does," Shoutmon says, as he points over to what seemed to be a janitor Gatomon, who seemed to currently be sleeping against the wall of the cafe.
"Ugh, I don't blame them," Adrian says, "My job can get stressful, too."
"You have a job?"
"Yeah, at a pizza place. And no, that doesn't mean I'll be able to get free pizza."
"Aw..."
Suddenly, the two of them hear a voice call their names. They turn to the source and they see a familiar looking ToyAgumon waving at them. At first, they wave back! Then Agumaru pulls them in for a group hug, and Shoutmon begins to feel his spine getting crushed again, like back with Miyu. "Can't... breathe..." Thankfully, Agumaru let go in time.
"Phew..." Adrian sighs. "Hey, Agumaru! We've been... better. How about you?"

"You've been better?" Agumaru doesn't like the sound of that. "What happened?" He waited for Adrian and/or Shoutmon to explain before telling him about his own experiences. "Well, things haven't been going great here either. I met a Spirit User which was interesting, but then I nearly killed another - a little human girl. She was in the form of a Harpymon, trying to rob us, so I had no idea! It was pretty terrible. Then... some... other stuff happened." He had to keep silent about what happened next, he made a promise.
"Aaanyways, I have some questions for you. Have you ever met a Spirit User? What do you think about thieves, if they have no other way of living because people expect the worst of them to begin with and they have no money? And... have you ever heard of a red Magnamon?" This was a lot to unload on the two at one time, but these questions wouldn't leave him alone.

"Well..." Adrian explained to Agumaru, "our friend Haru, she... she got hurt. Real bad. A serial killer Arkadhimon went after her and her Meicoomon partner, Tawna. Luckily, they stopped him, but that was after it had already claimed nineteen other lives... and Tawna ended up absorbing Arkadhimon's data... so there was just a load of tension between everyone who visited, including Miyu and Bloom."
"Wait, a Spirit User?" Shoutmon asked. "What in the world is that?"
"I have no idea..." Adrian says. That was a new term he heard... was that like a type of Tamer? "And about thieves, I think that it really depends on WHY they're thieves. Either way, stealing is still pretty bad."
"But you watch movies without paying for them," Shoutmon says.
"That's because they were airing on TV."
Then Agumaru brought up RedMagnamon. Shoutmon felt like he heard that name before... then came more voices and thoughts.
Kill... Burn... BURN!
It was coming back! The scary thoughts! The homicidal thoughts! Shoutmon was clearly looking freaked out, his pupils shrinking and a look of pure anguish on his face.
"Shoutmon... you okay?" Adrian asks, concerned about his friend.

"I see." That was all Agumaru could respond with when Adrian explains the Arkadimon catastrophe. It was sad in so many ways, and complex, and hard to put into words exactly what he felt about it - especially since he wasn't sure what he felt about it.
It was then time for Professor Agumaru! "A spirit user," he explains, "is a special type of human with a special type of Digivice and a special type of bond with a special type of Digimon. I am sure Shoutmon knows what a Spirit is, but for you Adrian, I'll do my best to explain. Digimon can either be reincarnated, loaded, or have their cores completely destroyed. However... there appears to be a fourth option. Whether their cores were damaged but not completely destroyed, or their willpower refused to let them die, or some other mysterious circumstances, a Spirit is created. Some are mere echoes of the Digimon it once was, while others are nearly full Digimon- but invisible and intangible to all but the Spirit User bonded with them. The Spirit User can then fuse with the Spirit to become a human Digimon."
"So, stealing is pretty bad, no matter the circumstances, but it depends on the circumstances?" Agumaru closes his eyes to process this seeming paradox. "I'm not sure I understand. Perhaps you yourself are as conflicted as I?"
The RedMagnamon question may have caused Shoutmon to behave oddly, but Agumaru didn't even notice. "So... have you or haven't you? Or do you not remember?"

"I'm sorry Agumaru," Adrian tells the little Digimon. "It's just... just a really shitty time for all of us... for Haru and Tawna especially. Too bad they don't know you, you'd probably cheer them up to some extent."
And then Professor Agumaru came out and rambled and rambled and rambled. Seriously, it was like sitting in a history class with the way the ToyAgumon was explaining the whole thing, and that boredom was clearly apparent on Adrian's face. Hopefully, Shoutmon can explain it in a better way later...
Speaking of Shoutmon, he wasn't fairing much better. He just stared at the ground, holding his head and feeling many voices and thoughts fill his head.

"GAH!"Shoutmon looked up in a cold sweat. "Huh? Sorry, just... had a migraine. No, I haven't heard of RedMagnamon."

"Yeah, it seems we've all had it rough lately." This meeting wasn't going at all how Agumaru expected. He was hoping for a happy reunion when he saw the two, but this was getting depressing. "Yeah... I don't know her but I wish her the best."
He also didn't expect to be giving a huge lecture, or getting ignored while doing so. "Do you get it now? Spirit Users are humans that use Digimon Spirits to become Digimon, basically." Hopefully that recap would be helpful, as it seems he did a bad job explaining it to the point where his pals zoned out.
It seems that Shoutmon did not know about RedMagnamon and was getting a migraine. "Sorry to hear that. Just watch out for him, he seems bad news. The Spirit User I mentioned - not the little girl, the other one - has some unfinished business with the villain. Anyways, it is nice to see you two again! Wanna hang out?"

"Humans... becoming Digimon?" Adrian asked Agumaru. "I've never heard of such a thing... I thought there were only humans that were partnered up with humans!"
"Hopefully one day we can meet one of these Spirit Users," Shoutmon says. "That sounds incredibly awesome!"
"I don't think you'd get that partner aspect as a Spirit User, though," Adrian points out. "Even though Shoutmon annoys me sometimes, I'd prefer to be partners with Shoutmon than another Digimon, or a Spirit User."
"Thanks, Adrian... and HEY!"
Adrian laughed at Shoutmon's response to his statement. Yeah, there really was no one else like Shoutmon out there...
"Hang out?" Adrian asked Agumaru. "Yeah, sure, it'd be nice to see a familiar face in this city. No one else seems that nice, really..."
"How about we get food, then?" Shoutmon suggests. "Because I'm starving! How about you, Agumaru?"

"Spirit users are pretty interesting," Agumaru admits. "I didn't know they were a thing until recently. I feel bad for Spirits, though..." He laughs at Shoutmon's reaction to Adrian's compliment insult. "Heheh, you are full of energy, aren't you Shoutmon? I like that!"
It was great to be able to hang out with them when so many in Terminus are a bit unfriendly. Adrian was definitely right on that account. "I don't know why everyone's so grumpy here! They should cheer up, they've got many things going for them!" He looks lost in thought for a moment, before nodding. "Yeah, they should be happy for what they have."
Shoutmon was right, good did seem like a good idea. "Hey yeah! Let's go get some food! Any particular preferences? I'm sure there's something good to eat around here."

Shoutmon laughed. "Yep, an energy ball is me! Although there are definitely times where I feel absolutely ready to just faceplant onto the ground and sleep."
"Usually after eating a lot," Adrian adds, earning a glare from Shoutmon. Adrian just shrugged it off. "Also, Agumaru, city citizens in my world are kind of like the Digimon here. It must be the stress of getting from place to place... but compared to the other things in the Digital World I've seen, you're right... they should be happy for what they have, and they probably already are."
"Any food place sounds good right about now," Shoutmon says, rubbing his stomach in anticipation. "How about we go get pizza?"
"What happened to our agreement that we'd explore other places before going to get food?"
"Oh... right..." Shoutmon mutters, disappointed. "The food's gonna have to wait, Agumaru. Adrian's being a giant buzzkill right now."

Adrian makes a great point about those in the city. "Just stressed out huh? I'm pretty good at letting stress roll off me but not everyone is like that." He scratches his chin thoughtfully. "Perhaps they do know how lucky they are, but just have bad days."
Unfortunately, his hopes of grabbing a quick meal are hit with a sledgehammer, shattered into pieces, vacuumed up, and the vacuum cleaner is set on fire. "Oh, exploring... I see. Do you have any place to start?"
Agumaru then remembers he never told them about his new Armor form. "Oh oh oh!" He jumps up and down in place, practically vibrating with excitement. "Guess what? I've found a Digimental and can Armor Digivolve now!"

"Everyone must be having one hell of a bad day, all at the same time," Adrian says, looking around at the other Digimon walking about, who were now giving Adrian a couple of weird looks. Hell, a Togemon just pushes Adrian out of the way as they were walking along. "Maybe they could look where they're going as well..."
"Yeah, I'm disappointed too, Agumaru," Shoutmon says. "My stomach is disappointed too. See?" Shoutmon gestures to his stomach, which then lets out a loud rumble.
"Come on, don't be so overdramatic," Adrian says. "We can get food in say... half an hour, and hour at the latest. We have time."
"Stomach says food now," Shoutmon replied, a joking grin on his face. "But okay, we'll do it your way."
Agumaru then brings up that he had found a Digimental, which then got their attention. "What a coincidence," Adrian says, taking out his own Digimental, "we just got one too!"

Agumaru glares at the cactus, not quite ready to pick a fight but still angry of their carelessness. "I was starting to give this city the benefit of the doubt," he growl-sighs, "but it seems that they might deserve the 'understanding' I thought I had about them after all." He feels really lucky to have found Adrian and Shoutmon here, as they are two he can get along with.
"Where are we going to explore," Agumaru asks Adrian. "What's the plan? The plan that is obviously very good and amazing since it is worth waiting to get food for, right?"
They both found Digimentals? Agumaru's eyes light up. "Awesome! Are you able to use it? What is its Crest? What do you become? Mine's Determination, and I become a Platymon, a duck beaver otter mole thing."

"Humans aren't ENTIRELY accepted in the Digital World yet," Adrian tells Agumaru. "I feel like I know how the African American's must have felt during the Civil Rights movement in the United States."
"The what in the where?" Shoutmon asked Adrian, confused.
"It's an event they taught us in school. About 60 or 70 years ago, the United States had some... issues when it came to humans with dark skin. A lot of light skinned humans felt superior to the dark skinned ones and treated them like garbage, kind of how that Togemon treated me just now. They separated light and dark skins as much as they could, from schools to even drinking fountains."
"Wow... humans have had it rough, huh?" Shoutmon asks.
"Yeah... in ways that you wouldn't believe. Anyways, we'll just walk around the city for about an hour, and if everyone's hungry.... MORE hungry... after that, then we can stop somewhere for food."
"Wait... what's a Platymon, Agumaru?" Shoutmon asks. "I've never heard of that Digimon before."
