As the groups gave continuity to each of their individual endeavors, things seemed to be turning more complex inside the Dogma Tower’s first floor.
While Katherine tried to dwell further into her story to distract the rest of the humanoids, Iguneetmon and Akemi would go upstairs. The digimon, who seemed to represent some form of authority among the humanoids, was absolutely convinced after hearing the Amaya’s input on the whole situation. A smile dimly forming around her lips and Katherine let a mutter escape.
“You can do this, Akemi…”
Could she do this, though?
After getting to the second floor, the Iguneetmon walked in front of Akemi through a hallway where different types of weapons seemed to be stored in crates and boxes. Guns, bullets, swords, bombs, axes, you name it. These guys were packed!
“These are all of the weapons we have, superior. We have managed to gather most of them from raiding the Beasts in this area. Some of our soldiers are still having trouble to use them properly, though…” The warrior managed, his eyes trailing off for a second to look at the armament as he kept walking. Eventually, the two reached a small room by the end of the hallway, where the source of a glowing green light that illuminated the whole hallway could be found.
“This is our generator. I believe it’s one of the fastest around the area.” His arms folded, the Iguneetmon stopped, staring at a quite-large machine inside this room. Its design? It was a metallic structure with a tube at its core. Due to the glowing nature of its apex, it seemed to be receiving some flow of data from below the floor. What was this thing?
Next to the machine, Akemi would find another digimon. If she had seen one of this before, she would be able to tell it was an Icedevimon. The humanoid, who saluted Iguneetmon, seemed to be in charge of this machine.
That tube, which seemed to be part of the core of this object, had its outlet facing the insides of this room. Was something supposed to come out of it?
Akemi would meet the answer quite quickly. A digiegg. A fairly ordinary digiegg was propelled out of it, landing on the floor right in front of the machine.
“I believe our generator should be enough to withstand an incoming raid from the beasts. However, it would be better if we knew the number of enemies we’ll be facing…” While the warrior spoke, Akemi would notice the egg had started to break. That had been quite fast, hadn’t it? A Yuramon came out of it. Both the Icedevimon and Iguneetmon seemed unfazed at this event. Only some seconds after, while the Humanoid kept explaining the situation, this Yuramon started glowing, turning into a Pyocomon. How was it evolving so fast!?
For when the Iguneetmon finished his talking, the Pyocomon was a Wormmon, and now IceDevimon had started moving. The humanoid demon seemed to be giving some instructions to the insect, before pointing him in the direction of a set of stairs going down. Were they sending it into the battlefield already? Firmly, the Wormmon nodded at the guidelines and started walking towards the stairs. Before it went down? It had started glowing again and turned into a Mercuremon!
So… this was the reason why the digimon from each faction were weak? There was no reason to assume the Beasts’ hideouts didn’t work the same way. Had their data been accelerated by that machine? Where was this data coming from? Although some pieces of the puzzle had started fitting; more questions had come afloat. Moreover, could Akemi ask any of these questions to the Iguneetmon? If she had claimed to be a superior of the Humanoids, it meant she was supposed to know how this worked.
Before Akemi could dedicate any more time to that, the buzzing sound of an alarm echoing in the far distance reached everyone in the building. Naturally, Anzu outside was able to hear it too.
“W-What is… that?” This seemed to be something the Iguneetmon didn’t know. Every Humanoid digimon around Katherine downstairs was equally shocked, including the Mercuremon who had just joined the squad.
“Where is that coming from?”
“What is going on?”
Panic seemed to be spreading across the Humanoids. This was something absolutely new for them, and for everyone on this floor.
“What is that noise? Where is it coming from?” Doha asked Jazz, while both remained hidden.
“Great question…”
Back in the second floor, Iguneetmon addressed Akemi. “Superior! Do you have any idea of what that is?”
Once she had offered an answer (if she could think of any), Akemi could go downstairs. Maybe she could take a moment to discuss her findings and own conclusions with Katherine?
To the ambiguous answer delivered by Hana, the Guardromon remained quiet for a second. Once again, he seemed to be scanning the girl. “Humanoid…?” He wondered out loud. Then, his conclusion. “Negative.” Whatever this digimon represented in this scheme, he seemed to have enough data to know Hana was foreign. “Having the will to come here to explore means you’re not programmed to fight any of the factions. You don’t belong here. Where did you come from?”
Although confused, the Guardromon still didn’t seem to be on the offensive. Instead, he kept studying Hana, trying to find an answer. His analysis became interrupted by the sound of a buzzing alarm, echoing in the distance. Although it was not deafening, the noise was loud enough for them to know this was not happening too far away.
“W-What is…?” Immediately, the robot rushed towards one of the computers in the room. Deploying a set of metallic fingers, he started typing something in. In the display, a map appeared. It wouldn’t take Hana long to notice this was a map of the city; the first floor of the Dogma Tower. “Do you have anything to do with this alarm!?” He turned abruptly to look at the short being.
Before Hana could deliver any type of answer, a voice sounded through one of the computers.
“Guadromons. Is that an alarm?” Although no image was available, the voice sounded like the one of an adolescent. Whoever he was, this individual seemed to be addressing many Guadromons, all connected through the same line.
“The Core Generator was attacked.” An answer came in through the computer. The voice that delivered this was exactly the same as the Guadromon's in front of Hana, although it was not him speaking. How many of them were spread through the city? “I just ran a scan through the city and I can’t detect any odd behavior from either Humanoids or Beasts.” The voice of the robot sounded again. Maybe it was a good thing Hana was being able to listen to this whole exchange?
This declaration was met with silence. Then, a reply. “… Run that scan again. I’m taking a tunnel to the generator. I should be there soon enough. Summon reinforcements there, just in case.” With this, the communication was cut off. Silence invaded the room Hana and the Guadromon were occupying until the robot spoke again.
“… I am not programmed to destroy or find intruders. The fighting machines are the ones built for that.” He admitted. “But I must detect the source of any instability in our system. I need your answers.”
What was Hana supposed to do now? The Guardromon here posited many options; many possible paths of action. Which was the most optimal one?
After Oneiro’s input and Amy’s decision, the partly incomplete Decoy Group went into hiding. They took their position on top of one of the highest rooftops and remained invisible. It was truly a matter of seconds before movement occurred.
Certain sections of the street down below started moving. Areas with the form of a square started lifting and scooting to the side, leaving way for a small chamber to raise from the ground. In less than 10 seconds, around 30 chambers had been deployed around the whole block. They all opened at the same time, revealing some sort of robotic war vehicles.
Boru, who was seeing everything from high above, communicated his impressions to the group through his thoughts. “Tankmons and Tankdramons? To what faction do they belong?”
Fei responded as well as she could. “They’re neither Humanoids nor Beasts. They are… Machines. Cyborgs, I guess.” She noted. The fact the newcomers started moving around the damaged giant machine in the middle of the street revealed something to the nurse. “They are not affected by that light. It’s not hurting them as it hurt us.”
“Are they looking for intruders?”
In fact, they seemed to be. Once they had combed the area and after finding nothing, the eyes of every searcher acquired a bright red tonality. Now, they seemed to be scanning the whole zone, including the top of each building.
Was the Decoy Group that sure they wouldn’t be detected?
