"Some people would argue that meat is the most important.
But, eh, I'd think they were nuts."
Betty then began cutting the veggies. At least that awkward feeling was going away. Pure seemed quite down to earth. Their time alone was briefly interrupted by Lezard getting a glass of water, however. It was abrupt and wordless... granted, considering how Rippah was puking she thought nothing of it.
"Anything you want to talk about?"
Meanwhile, Sanoske was placing Crystal on a makeshift bed that Karen had made. Which was a cut box with sheets put into it. At least there was thought put into how the sheets were placed instead of thrown in. Sanoske continued to watch over her, awaiting for her to wake up.
Moments later, outside, Lezard gave the Gabumon some water, letting him gargle an swish it around before he spat it out. There was still some left, though, which Lezard held on to.
"Are you sure... they don't need you in *urp* there?"
"As of right now you're my priority, and that is final. I know you aren't going to die or anything like that but... just humor me and let me stay, okay?"
Rippah nodded. He realized that Lezard was frightened over the possibility of him dying or something wrong would happen to him. Lezard was not really the overbearing type, and offered Rippah his space, but all he wanted was to make sure his friend was okay.

Pure looked hesitant as Betty asked him if there was anything he wanted to talk about. There was something on his mind, but he wasn't sure if he should bring it up. It wasn't exactly the most pleasant of conversation topics. Probably not one Betty would know much about either. Yet it still was something on his mind.
"Uhh... Well... How long have you known Vetina for? You two seem pretty close." Pure decided to ask as he cut veggies. All the while trying to figure out the best way to bring up the topic he truly wished to learn more about.

"Me and Vetina? Hmm..."
Betty paused her cutting of the food and thought for a moment about the question, specifically how long *has* it been since they first met. She then chuckled, reminded of how they actually initially met.
"I'd say over a year, not more then two. First time I saw her she tried to steal some equipment from me so she could find out where one of her digimentals were, since it was out at sea. Heh, she even buried herself in sand to perform a surprise attack. Me, I was going to sell it had I found it first.
I guess Vetina took some affinity to me and found out I did some mercenary work, because she ended up hiring me.
Relation was, of course, rocky. I was a bit more uptight and Vetina was... Vetina... although she too mellowed out a bit over time. We eventually ended up becoming friends, and I became her confidant. And I think she did enjoy the fact that I quickly picked up on how to understand 'Vetinese'. Not sure if she told you or you picked up on this but doesn't talk like that on purpose. She is literally unable to string together a proper sentence like we can, so to speak."

"I kind of guessed that. She had to be some kind of sadist to purposefully speak like that all the time. I honestly have a hard time understanding her half the time." Pure replied with a nervous laugh.
"So yeah... I'm not sure you may be the best to ask, or if it's even my place to ask you this. But with you being her closest confidante, you may be able to help me understand something about her. How much did she truly wanted to find the Hylden who caused her to become the way she is now?"

"How much did she really want to find the Hylden who caused her to become the way she is, huh? Well, that's kind of a hard question to answer, because that's... a good question to ask, but not quite the right question to ask.
I'm going to assume you have some knowledge that Vetina is... changed due to Hylden data. But I do want to know how much you actually know about her past.
But if I do get into details, I'd have to ask you to not go around telling anyone else. Vetina is private about her past, and while I will help fill in the blanks there are some things I just can't outright tell you of you know nothing of her past."

"Well I know she lost someone in her past because of something a Hylden did. The original Vetina or someone name Jacob. Probably both in a way from what I can understand. And that they somehow ended up merging together to form the Vetina we know today.
"I'm honestly not quite sure about all the details. Though overall I understood the main reason she even came with us was to find out who it was that hurt her original self so. Saving Celeste was more of a secondary objective to her. Yet now though I'm not so sure." Pure paused as he thought back to what Vetina told him in the caves.

Betty nodded after Pure told her what all she knew. She was more or less waiting on him knowing that Vetina was once Jacob. With that bit of info known by him, Betty felt she could go into details about her past.
"I see. Well, I don't know Vetina personally prior to her being altered, but Vetina had, in detail, told me everything that happened. So, uhh...
Well, yes, Vetina here used to be Jacob. However, as I said, it's not really a case of what a Hylden directly did to, uh... 'him' back then because the Hylden who did do that to Jacob was the original Vetina.
There is some device the Hylden used back then on the original Vetina that severely caused her pain. So much pain over a length of time that Jacob decided to end her life out of mercy. Despite their relationship having some hardships prior, Jacob really did love Vetina. Can't say I would have ended her life but, well, I can hardly comment on what I could guess is intense emotional stress breaking him down.
Upon killing her, he was so distraught over his decision, especially considering he had no idea why she was in severe pain all the time, he decided that he needed to have her data. Jacob couldn't live without her, and all that. What Jacob or even the original Vetina didn't know was Vetina being a Hylden digimon so in Jacob outright going insane coupled with taking in Hylden data, so wanting to be with Vetina, Jacob became the second Vetina.
When our Vetina felt the sharp pains that the original felt, as well as met Mel for he first time, she realized that what the original went through was caused by someone. She was, as she put it, quite livid. That was also when Vetina fought your sister and Sanoske.
I skipped over some things but that's the jist of it. I think Vetina did talk to Mel about her past a bit but that was after that drinking contest you two went to...
...why *did* you to go to a drinking contest?"

"It's... It's not like I went there of my own volition." Pure stated as he got very defensive all of a sudden. "Everything was kind of a blur back then. Not only had Mel only recently taken over my body. He threatened to hurt or even kill Crys with my own body if I tried to fight back. It didn't help matters that I felt so weakened by being so far away from Crys that even if I wanted to fight against him, I couldn't.
"Then there were the drinks. I'll admit that I had the occasional beverage every now and then when Crys and I were with our old caravan. Yet let me tell you that from everything that I remember that day, the hangover that bastard gave me is easily the clearest. Pardon my language. Geez... My head hurts just thinking about it.
"Though back to the question at hand. I believed that was when he got this digimental." Pure stopped chopping vegetables for the time being as he paused to concentrate. Data pulled away from his body to form Mel and his Digimental. "I'm not quite sure why he wanted this thing. He said he needed it for his portal, but I don't recall him ever using it for that. Knowing him he was probably lying. Only wanting to have some semblance of power he use to have."

"Heh... sorry... I guess I did poorly word that question.
I remember that night distinctly because when I met back up with her the smell she had on her was... how did I put it... The best apple flavored beer I ever smelled with the worst smell of vomit, combined.
Anyway, Vetina had told me that Mel is... quite manipulative. Honestly, I kinda feel sorry for you and Vetina. I mean, your situation... sucks. From what I've heard your roommate is pretty terrible. But you seem to be handling it well.
I wish I could say the same for Vetina, though. I bet you she even asked you out at some point. I'd be surprised if she didn't."

Pure absorbed his digimental once more as he thought back. "Really? Because I don't think she tried anything yet. Not in that regards in any case." Pure replied, still completely oblivious to Vetina's attempt to ask him out.
"As for me handling Mel well. I'm not so sure about that. It's more that I'm just trying to do my best with a bad hand, y'know? And even then I feel like I'm barely able to hang on."

"She hasn't asked you out? Huh. Alright.
As for Mel... I mean, I admit that I personally do not know you all too well, this being our first actual conversation with each other... but... eh, I'm probably just talking out my tail. I don't really know anything. And you are keeping Mel in you... unless I'm wrong you and Mel aren't one like Vetina and Jacob.
It's just that you and Vetina are the two I know who have been most directly affected by the Hylden and Vetina's experience with them is currently the only basis I have to understand you. So forgive me for saying something that isn't the case.
Anyway... I'm sure Crystal and that big Gazimon... guy... they'll be able to help you through this. At least be support. I'd hope so anyway, being your sister and her mate.

Pure seemed pretty flustered by the statement. The thought of Sanoske being Crystal's mate just rubbed him the wrong way. It wasn't because he distrusted or disliked Sanoske in any way. It was more just him being the overprotective brother who doesn't want to see his sister hurt or worse. Plus being considered a 'mate' insinuates a whole other thing that Pure would rather not even think of.
"Uhh... I would prefer it if you didn't call Sanoske Crystal's mate. I don't think either one of them are ready for... That kind of commitment. As far as I can tell they only started dating recently, and because of this thing between Mel and myself, they haven't really had a chance to go out on a single date. Besides it's not exactly something a brother likes to think about. You understand?" Pure said trying his best not to linger on the issue for to long.
Pure then sighed as his gaze appeared to have fallen. "Crys and Sanoske had supported me so much, I'm not sure if it's right for me to rely on them any more then I already have. Crys herself seemed to have been completely in despair when she learned that she's the cause of my current predicament with Mel. I don't want to risk adding anymore stress to that out of fear that she may break."

"Fine, fine, I get you." Betty said in response to Pure's nervousness about discussing the relationship between Crystal and Sanoske. He didn't want to press on the matter, and neither should she.
"Anyway... I don't know what to say... sounds you two have bad hands.
Hmm... uh, random question to change the subject again... can you tell me about everyone else? Everyone other than, you know, Crystal and Vetina.
I think that guy puking outside was Rippah based on what Vetina told me about him. Don't really know about that other guy.
Sanoske... Vetina told me what he is but not enough for me to wrap my head around it.
That Renamon I know nothing about, and while I do know of the Mayor of Rustport I've never actually met him or seen him before."

Pure paused as he thought for a moment, "Well... To be quite frank with you. I don't really know anyone here besides Sanoske and Crystal. I mean I guess I should know a little about Rippah now, yet I sadly don't know much then he seems to be trustworthy.
As for Sanoske. Well... I think you should really speak to him and Crys about all that stuff. I'm pretty sure he doesn't mind me telling people about him, yet I still feel like it's more respectful to have explain what exactly he is. That and... Well uhh... I still don't exactly understand what exactly he is. I know that he's a..." Pure shook his head as he got himself back on track.
"I'm sorry. Your asking the wrong guy. I've spent less time with everybody here then anyone else. Mel was in control for most of the time we've been here after all, and I... Well I kind of blank out from time to time whenever he's doing any of that science stuff. So if anybody did tell Mel something about themselves, then I didn't catch it."

"Well, looks like we're in the same boat, then. It's as Vetina said, it's a gathering of very loose relations... of course, I'm paraphrasing.
Such a motley crew, I can hardly believe such a collection of digimon oddities are under one roof... no offense to you.
Anyway, let's get this stew started. Some of our companions look like they're big eaters, so better get a big batch over and done with." ----
Time passed, and everyone who was there seemed to be still winding down from today's events.
Celeste was successfully placed inside Cuttah. She seemed her usual apathetic self, and not really feeling any different.
Rippah had gotten something of a fever. Cuttah and Lezard remained by Rippah's side as he rested.
Sanoske did the same for Crystal, remaining by her side as she rested.
The ones able to began to eat the stew. However, Betty would take an extra portion outside. By the entrance, she saw Vetina, back in her rookie form and holding a carving that Betty couldn't immediately make out. She sat outside, not outright visible from others inside, and gave a brief look at Betty before turning her head back down. The Flamedramon set the bowl down by her, and then sat herself down as well.
"My apologies for a poor removal of my being. Just a... sudden pile up the ticker couldn't take."
"I understand, so don't worry about it."
